zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

The three tools we will use in DDBC are Facebook and Twitter Facebook is the tool for this lab.
Facebook’s mission is to make the world more open and connected.
They are a for-profit company. Expect ads!
According to FB’s own About statistics, there are 2 billion users (2017)
ONE QUARTER of the world’s population is on Facebook!
This lab is meant to help people complete their Part 2 LAB ASSIGNMENTS, found on the handout provided to you at Orientation
For each of the social networks, you have to do TWO steps. First create your account.
Then, connect with the rest of us.
The Lab/Handout and wiki assignments will help you to complete these two steps, but your coaches will also assist if you have any problems.
Be sure to make note of your account name and password for EACH account you set up! Also, be sure to remember what email address you used to set up your accounts.
To sign up for a Facebook account, you will need an email, and you will be asked to create a password.
Look at the example in this slide. Note that you should use your REAL name.
Your email.
And a strong password. A strong password is probably easy for you to remember (makes sense to you) but also has a combination of symbols, numbers and letters. You might want to choose a password that you can use for all your social networks, but one that is different than your financial or email passwords.
Once you set up your account, FB will want to know you are a real person with a real email, so they will send you a confirmation email. Be sure to read it and confirm.
Additionally, FB asks you to VERIFY your account by giving them your mobile phone number. Once you have verified, you will be able to register your username. My username is claudia.mcivor, so I appear as facebook.com/claudia.mcivor .
NOTE: Facebook only allows you to have one account. If you have multiple accounts, you will be asked to disable them.
Once you have an account, click on your name to see your TIMELINE.
Your timeline is your collection of the photos, stories, and experiences that tell your story. You can go to your timeline and see exactly what YOU have posted.
Here are some of the things you can do on your timeline
This is what the top of my FB Timeline looks like.
Profile picture (you upload it)
And I set my cover or timeline picture
You can always change your Cover or Profile picture, and you can update all your information in your profile with the Update Information link.
Your Timeline displays posts you have added yourself to Facebook. There are also links to your pages on the sidebar
This is your HOME page, which is different than your Timeline. HOME displays anything you have indicated an interest in (anything you follow or Like). So all of my friends’ most recent posts are on my Home page.
Your home page will also have a list of your groups on the left. When you become a member of DDBC’s FB group, you’ll see us listed there and will be able to click on the group name to go directly to our group.
Note that you
Privacy Options
Down arrow to open settings, then choose Privacy. This will open your Privacy settings options, display your current settings, and allow you to edit. Your settings are a personal choice. Facebook does not want to alienate you, but remember that Facebook is in the business of advertizing, and they use your information to market products and services of their advertisers.
Things you can set:
Who can see your future posts and who can see you past posts.
See all posts in which you are tagged.
Decide who can look you up using your email or phone number that you provided
Decide if you want to be searchable.
Other security and privacy settings can be found on the left.
Every one of these menu items has multiple settings associated with it, so be sure you click through each one.
Example: Manage Blocking allows you to block individuals, apps, and invites. If you find you are getting nuisance posts, go here to change the settings!
From the Blocking page, you can block specific users, messages, app invites, apps, pages, and event invites.
be aware that all social networking sites have built-in help. Just look for the question mark near the top of your timeline or home page
Click on the help center to see this page
The HELP CENTER is the best place to find information because FB features change frequently. Only the HELP Center will give you the latest updates.
Remember, the purpose of our using FB for DDBC is to PRACTICE learning how to connect with others using this social networking tool that is so popular.
Once you are a member of our group, you will be posting DIRICTLY in our GROUP for your homework and practice.
First, go to our Group.
Then, you simply click on the “Write something” box and write something. Be sure to click on POST when you are done.
Feel free to use the DDBC FB group to share resources and PRACTICE being part of a Digital Discipleship community!
If you share a link you found on the web, and FB will automatically generate a thumbnail. Give it a few seconds.
After the thumbnail image appears, you can delete the URL and type in something more personal.
Review these features.
