ASSURE Day #5
United States of America after Revolution
Analyze Audience
The class has twenty students. There are seven girls and thirteen boys. The class has
eight African American students. They are all low income students. Three of the students have
a reading disability.
State Objectives
The children will illustrate and describe what the United States of America looked like
after independence was gained with a 100% accuracy in one week by finishing a Word
WebQuest, watching videos on the founding of the United States of America’s government,
looking at the Declaration of Independence, a word web on this document, and discussing a
question on Facebook.
Select Methods, Media, & Materials
They will analyze the Declaration of Independence in small-groups. The SMART Board
and computer will be used to show the Declaration of Independence. Computers in the media
room will be used to complete the Word WebQuest. Facebook will be utilized to see the
question they will discuss.
Utilize Media & Materials
Before class, I will arrange the class into five groups of four students for the small-group
project. I will have a spot for my class in the media room at a specific time. I will preview the
video on the United States government to make sure it plays alright and that the content is at
grade level. I will also have the Declaration of Independence saved on my computer for easy
access. My computer, SMART Board, and speakers will be double-checked to make sure they
work fine for the video presentation. Make sure Facebook is accessible on the school’s
computer.
Require Learner Participation
First, the children will watch the video on the United States of America’s government.
After that, the students will do their Word WebQuest on what the United States of America
looked like after she gained independence. Then, we will take a look at the Declaration of
Independence. They will work in their groups to create a word web on the Declaration of
Independence. They will have a conversation on the First Continental Congress and why they
were important. The students’ performance on the WebQuest and the word web is how they
will assessed in this lesson.
Evaluate Methods & Material
As the children are watching the government video, I will pay attention to how well they
are paying attention. If their minds seem to be in another place, I will choose a different video
for the next time I present this lesson. Also, I will review the Word WebQuest. If they are not
getting all of the information that I think they should, I need to look at the WebQuest. It is
probably just a matter of rewording some of the questions and making sure that the resources
deal with the questions. By doing this, I can improve the lesson for the next time. I will also
take a look at their word web. They should have included the key points. If they did not, I will
be sure to make some notes for next time. If they did not cover the Founding Fathers, then I
need to include that I need to cover the Founding Fathers more. Whatever is lacking in their
project, I need to make sure to address more in-depth the next time I teach this lesson.

Day 5: USA After Revolution

  • 1. Rebecca Kilver ASSURE Day #5 United States of America after Revolution Analyze Audience The class has twenty students. There are seven girls and thirteen boys. The class has eight African American students. They are all low income students. Three of the students have a reading disability. State Objectives The children will illustrate and describe what the United States of America looked like after independence was gained with a 100% accuracy in one week by finishing a Word WebQuest, watching videos on the founding of the United States of America’s government, looking at the Declaration of Independence, a word web on this document, and discussing a question on Facebook. Select Methods, Media, & Materials They will analyze the Declaration of Independence in small-groups. The SMART Board and computer will be used to show the Declaration of Independence. Computers in the media room will be used to complete the Word WebQuest. Facebook will be utilized to see the question they will discuss. Utilize Media & Materials Before class, I will arrange the class into five groups of four students for the small-group project. I will have a spot for my class in the media room at a specific time. I will preview the video on the United States government to make sure it plays alright and that the content is at grade level. I will also have the Declaration of Independence saved on my computer for easy access. My computer, SMART Board, and speakers will be double-checked to make sure they work fine for the video presentation. Make sure Facebook is accessible on the school’s computer. Require Learner Participation First, the children will watch the video on the United States of America’s government. After that, the students will do their Word WebQuest on what the United States of America looked like after she gained independence. Then, we will take a look at the Declaration of
  • 2. Independence. They will work in their groups to create a word web on the Declaration of Independence. They will have a conversation on the First Continental Congress and why they were important. The students’ performance on the WebQuest and the word web is how they will assessed in this lesson. Evaluate Methods & Material As the children are watching the government video, I will pay attention to how well they are paying attention. If their minds seem to be in another place, I will choose a different video for the next time I present this lesson. Also, I will review the Word WebQuest. If they are not getting all of the information that I think they should, I need to look at the WebQuest. It is probably just a matter of rewording some of the questions and making sure that the resources deal with the questions. By doing this, I can improve the lesson for the next time. I will also take a look at their word web. They should have included the key points. If they did not, I will be sure to make some notes for next time. If they did not cover the Founding Fathers, then I need to include that I need to cover the Founding Fathers more. Whatever is lacking in their project, I need to make sure to address more in-depth the next time I teach this lesson.
