Thursday ASSURE:
Today is a 12th grade American Civics and Government class with 18
students. There are 14 boys and 6 girls in this class. Out of these students
there are 12 from the United States, 4 from Mexico, and 2 from Israel. This
class enjoys being hands on and learning through the research of topics that
we cover.
The objective of this class is to teach the students about the different jobs
available in the U.S. Government. Students will also learn what the roles are
for some of these positions. The different branches of government and what
they control will also be taught in this lesson.
In order to teach this class about the branches, their jobs, and the positions
within the government, a WebQuest research assignment will be given to the
students. In this WebQuest students will have available sources for different
governmental positions. As they research these positions they will try and
decide which position they feel would best suite tem. Once they have
decided, they create a 5-7 minute speech that will tell why they feel they
should be elected to the position. Instead of presenting this speech though,
students will make a podcast of themselves that can be uploaded to the class
Facebook page. The speech will need to highlight what type of
responsibilities the chosen position has and what qualities the person would
need to have. Then the student needs to tell why they match up with these
qualities and the responsibilities.
The technologies that will be used in this assignment are WebQuest,
websites, and podcasters.
Students will be expected to have 100% accuracy in the responsibilities of
the chosen position. The students will also be expected to have 100%
accuracy on the length of the speech, and on the information about their own
qualities (in terms of being in the speech). Students will not be graded based
on whether they are accurate in their self assessment for the position they
choose.
