4.1 Introductory Activity Snapshots!
Present pictures contain theatrical play and audiences’ feedback which are both
verbal and non-verbal expressions. Afterwards, let the students identify what those
images are.
Picture 1. An actual stage play
Picture 2 & 3. Audiences’ Facial reaction (bad and good)
Picture 4. Audiences’ Hand gestures
Picture 5. Audiences’ verbal feedback
Picture 6. A stage that is set for a play
4.2 Activity Review Rewind!
Read and analyze the sample High School play review. Then afterwards, prepare
for a succession of follow up questions.
4.3 Analysis  Is the sample play review interesting to read?
 Does the review include a brief summary of the play?
 Does it give a clear idea of what the play is all about?
 Does the play review talk about the acting of the cast?
 Does the play review mention the technical aspects (props, music, and
production) of the play?
4.4 Abstraction Demonstrate the proper way of writing a play review. Afterwards, present a sample
high school play review and let the students be actively involved with the utilization
of Socratic method. Hence, there will be a thorough analyzation of the play review
with the use of a checklist.
4.5 Application Pair Peers!
Form a Dyad. In a 1 whole sheet of paper, Evaluate a play review of a musical play
entitled “Hamilton” by Lin Manuel Miranda with the help of the checklist below.

Jan. 30, 2019 Learning Competency/ ies: (Taken from the Curriculum Guide)  Compose a play review Code: ENWC-IVd-11 Key Concepts/Understanding to be developed A play review is a subjective and educated response to a piece of theater. It is more about evaluation of production than the text of the play. Domains Adapted Cognitive Process Dimensions OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to: Knowledge The fact or condition of knowing something with familiarity gained Remembering Describe a play presented before the crowd Understanding Skills The ability and capacity acquired through deliberate, systematic, and sustained effort to smoothly and adaptively carryout complex activities or the ability, coming from one's knowledge, practice, aptitude, etc., to do something Applying Analyzing Evaluating Evaluate a sample paper review of a certain play. Creating Attitude Organization Read the sample review for a play with self interest Values Valuing Ask or raise questions politely 2. Content How to write a Play Review 3. Learning Resources  K-12 Curriculum Guide  DepEd Learner’s Material: A Journey through Anglo- American literature 4. Procedures 4.1 Introductory Activity Snapshots! Present pictures contain theatrical play and audiences’ feedback which are both verbal and non-verbal expressions. Afterwards, let the students identify what those images are. Picture 1. An actual stage play Picture 2 & 3. Audiences’ Facial reaction (bad and good) Picture 4. Audiences’ Hand gestures Picture 5. Audiences’ verbal feedback
  • 2. Picture 6. A stage that is set for a play 4.2 Activity Review Rewind! Read and analyze the sample High School play review. Then afterwards, prepare for a succession of follow up questions. 4.3 Analysis  Is the sample play review interesting to read?  Does the review include a brief summary of the play?  Does it give a clear idea of what the play is all about?  Does the play review talk about the acting of the cast?  Does the play review mention the technical aspects (props, music, and production) of the play? 4.4 Abstraction Demonstrate the proper way of writing a play review. Afterwards, present a sample high school play review and let the students be actively involved with the utilization of Socratic method. Hence, there will be a thorough analyzation of the play review with the use of a checklist. 4.5 Application Pair Peers! Form a Dyad. In a 1 whole sheet of paper, Evaluate a play review of a musical play entitled “Hamilton” by Lin Manuel Miranda with the help of the checklist below. Points to Consider Your response (yes/no) Your reasons Is the sample play review interesting to read? Does the review include a brief summary of the play? Does it give a clear idea of what the play is all about? Does the play review talk about the acting of the cast? Does the play review mention the technical aspects (props, music, and production) of the play? 4.6 Assessment Analysis of Learners’ Products Assume that you will be watching a play, write down your expectations pertinent to the play itself. Use the matrix below. Write this in a ½ crosswise. I want to see….. I don’t want to see….. 4.7 Assignment Reinforcing/ Strengthening the day’s lesson Watch any play uploaded on YouTube and make a paper review right after watching it. 4.8 Concluding Activity Students will develop writing skills with the integration of play review sample. 5.
