The Summer Night In The Summer And The Last Summer
I remember it as if it was yesterday, maybe because it was yesterday. No, I m merely kidding. It was
this summer. Not this coming summer, the last summer. And not the summer of the year 2016, the one
from this year, 2017. What happened that summer night? Numerous things. It was any other typical
summer day for me in the ole Fritz household. I was getting bored doing things with Hallie, the dog,
or by myself. I thought of a brilliant idea, I ll invite Kennedy over, it s been forever since I ve seen her.
(It hadn t been an extremely long time since I last saw her, we simply enjoy hanging out.)
Accordingly, I called her up and asked, Hey, are you busy today? Because if not, you should come
over to my house and spend the night or something. She said, No, I m not busy. I need to ask if I can
come, I m sure she ll say yes. I probably need to clean my room first though. Hence, it might be a
while. I told her that was fine and to swing by whenever she was done cleaning, and that was the end
of it. I only had to wait an hour, maybe two, before she arrived at my house. We were incredibly
excited to see each other because, actually, I have no idea why. I mean yes we re excellent friends, still
we saw each other a lot, and we talk, and text all the time. I don t know, we re weird. We always
become excited I suppose. We were comparable to when you come home from a vacation and your
dog goes crazy because they re happy to see you. Similar to that of a dog, perhaps toned down

Essay on The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano
The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano
The piano has been inextricably linked with the roles and expectations of women in British society
since its advent in the mid 1700s to the late 1800s when rising standards of living made it more
accessible to middle class society. Pianos were regarded as secure icons of social distinction 1 and a
wife was viewed similarly as a possession of privatization, success and respectability. 2 Pianos were
instrumental in both reinforcing gender roles and as delineators of class distinction thus perpetuating
the class system. 3
While concentrating primarily on Ada, this essay will discuss the symbolism of the piano in The Piano
expressed through the relationship with each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The piano is in fact an extension of herself and this connection is emphasised by the fact that the
longest gaze in the film is given not to a man looking on a woman but to a woman gazing on a
supposedly inanimate object. This gaze emphasises the isolation that she herself feels at this moment.
Literature is strewn with references to pianos 6 and its feminine characteristics make it an obvious
symbol of the vulnerability and treatment of women. It assumes a feminine role in The Piano. Men of
both cultures treat it roughly: Maori manhandle it through the bush, and thump unmusically on it when
it is moved to Stewart s house; Stewart keeps time coarsely on its frame as Flora plays for him. Baines
acquaintances too, clearly regard it as unmanly to learn to play the piano. The physicality of the piano
and its connection to Ada s body is emphasised on many occasions by both Ada and Baines: by Baines
who bargains parts of Ada s piano in return for parts of her body he is given permission to touch and
see and who, in Ada s absence, strips naked to delicately and lovingly dust the piano; by Ada writing
on the A key Ada loves George ; and when barricaded into the house by Stewart and cannot see Baines
in person, she removes a key (G) from the piano and inscribes on it Dear George, you have my heart.

Ada communicates in three ways: through Flora by

Suicide In The Trenches By Siegfried Sassoon
The poems Dulce et Decorum est by Wilfred Owen and Suicide in the trenches by Siegfried Sassoon
used the techniques of personal pronouns and irony to convey the poet s feelings towards war.
Formerly Owen and Sassoon all war poems had been patriotic and was used to encourage employment
of young men in war. But, both Owen and Sassoon had seen the horrors of trench warfare themselves
and their poetry was therefore become realistic about the unforgiving realities of war. Owen stated on
his poems that my subject is war, and the pity of it, all a poet can do is warn. Owen and Sassoon were
both trying to warn young men against war and advise the public on how cruel and sickening war
actually is.
In both poems, after describing the inhumane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Dulce et Decorum est irony was used in the title of the poem which means it is sweet and fitting .
This comes from the saying that was commonly used during World War One: Dulce et Decorum est
pro patria mori or It is sweet and fitting to die for your country. This title greatly contradicted the
poems content, which described the gruesome death of a soldier from poisonous gas, which is a
sickening and horrific, not sweet and fitting, way to die. In Suicide in the trenches a rhythmic
technique of iambic tetrameter was used to create irony. This creates a sing song effect, which is
greatly contradicted by the diction of the poem. This describes a simple soldier boy committing
suicide because the conditions of the trenches caused him to be cowed and glum . Irony was used in
these poems to lull the reader into the belief that the poem was going to be cheerful and then shock the
reader when they read the diction of the poem. The reader s shock when they read the poem would
have caused them to reconsider their thoughts on war and talked to them how disgusting war is and
the poet s purpose of how it s wrong to disregard war or spread propaganda about it being glorious.
The irony used also shocked me. which caused me to feel sympathy for the soldiers and the horrors
they faced in the

Case Study # 10 Denver Health Network: ABC Analysis
1. Estimate the base (initial) cost of each alternative. Here, you just need to put in the appropriate RED
input from the information in the case study. The answers will be spit out. Which alternative has the
lower total cost? Why?
Alternative 2 has the lowest total per a procedure cost. Operating costs of Alternative 1 is $86.15,
which is lower than Alternative 2 of $92.15Alternative 2 is higher in operation al cost because there is
six dollars in extra costs assessed with travel and set up costs. When the other costs, which include
capital and maintance, are incorporated, Alternative 2 becomes the lower cost with an annual cost of$
251,160 and Alternative 1 is $ 268,260. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alternative 2 o Per a procedure Capital cost increases, as it is a shorter life span to pay off or gain a
return on the ultrasounds, with a shorter life span of 3 years with lower amount of capital costs the
increase is not as substantial as Alternative1 but still increase by approximately $7.75 per total cost
procedure.
In short term of 3 years I would Pick Alternative 2 as it is still the lowest cost and does not a
substantial increase in cost from the base case.
Long run 7 years
Alternative 1 o The per a procedure Capital cost decrease as the life span increase as more procedures
will be allocated through the life span resulting in a decrease in total per a procedure costs. Alternative
1 decreases approximately $7.35 from base case.
Alternative 2 o The per a procedure Capital cost decrease as the life span increase as more procedures
will be allocated through the life span resulting in a decrease in total per a procedure costs. Alternative
2 decrease by 3.36 from initial base case.
In the long term of 7 years I would pick Alternative 1. Although it is still a little higher in cost the cost

Cardiovascular Conditioning Essay
Cardiovascular fitness shows how the heart and lungs supply oxygen rich blood to the working muscle
tissues and the ability of the muscles to use oxygen to produce energy for movement. The ability to
deliver oxygen to the muscles is affected by many physiological parameters, including heart rate,
stroke volume, cardiac output, and maximal oxygen consumption. Cardiovascular conditioning
utilizes and transports the necessary oxygen and nutrients to body tissues. In order for the body to
deliver adequate oxygenated blood and nutrients to the muscles, the body has to be well conditioned.
By the body being well conditioned it improves the muscles capacity to use extra oxygen.

The warm up is the most important part of cardiovascular conditioning. Warming up before an intense
exercise helps to gradually increase the heart rate and prevent abnormal heart rhythms. Warming up
also helps with preventing straining on the heart muscle and heart attacks from abnormal heart
rhythms. The warm up period should last about five to ten minutes. During this time the body is
preparing for the exercise activities.
Warm up exercises prepare the body for exercising by increasing the blood flow to the muscles
allowing them to loosen up, which can raise the flow of oxygen to the muscle cells. Doing this
gradually increases the body s temperature. This then increases the speed and force of muscular
contractions, because nerve impulses travel faster at higher body temperatures, and muscles become
less stiff or more pliable.
They also help to gradually increase the heart rate and ensure that the demand made on the circulatory
and metabolic systems is gradual as well. In a safe and gradual way they allow blood to be diverted
away from other parts of the body such as the digestive system to the muscles being exercised. This
initial part of your exercise session helps to improve neural function and co ordination, protect major
joints as it takes time to increase the supply of lubricating synovial fluid and to thicken the articular
cartilages the body s shock absorbers.

1. The place is at City of Whittier, the location is 13230 Penn Street Whittier, CA 90602, and the date I
went to go visit was Thursday August 6. It was my first time attending a local governmental meeting.
The meeting that was held was titled as The Parking and Transportation Commission. I was glad the
topic was on this because I felt keeping our society safe is the most important. So the City Council
would do its best to make sure that there would not be hassle while driving on the road way. They try
their best to prevent traffic and parking problems. Obviously there is still going to be traffic on the
freeways, but they try their best to cause fewer problems for people in the society. The members that
were in the meeting would give suggestions or feedback, and recommendations to other board
members. Everyone had their own point of view about the Parking and Transportation issue. The
Directive was taking a look at the transportation ecological impact reports, future transportation
expansion strategies, and school crossing guard sites. I feel like their thoughts were all good, however
in my opinion it is not a good idea to use all those recommendations regarding about the issue. The
reason for this is because then it would be too costly. I feel that it would be best to just take the best
recommendation and then use that as a strategy for traffic flow. In addition, I like the idea of how they
need of school crossing guard places is important, because sometimes children do

Enrique s Journey Theme
Immigration affects families in many different ways. In the book Enrique s Journey by Sonia Nazario,
family is a core element. After Enrique s mother leaves for the U.S., the whole concept of their family
gets distorted. The walking out of Enrique s father and the abandonment of his grandmother help to
disband the family even more. Enrique also threatens to repeat the same mistakes his family made
with his daughter when he considers leaving her behind in Honduras. Family is the central theme in
Enrique s Journey because of his relationship and resentment with his mother, the rejection of his
father and grandmother, and Enrique s decision to leave his daughter, Jasmin, behind. Enrique s

Full House Vs Modern Family
Have you ever wondered if there is a difference between sitcoms back then and now? This paper is
going to compare and contrast the differences between an episode of Full House and an episode of
Modern Family. We are able to spot notable differences and similarities by comparing the characters,
plot, and setting for both of these sitcoms. First off we are going to compare the characters. As shown
in Modern Family, Manny steals a necklace on accident and does not want to have to own up to it.
Manny is very proper and acts more like an adult than a kid. He cares a lot about his appearance and
usually does not steal but may have inherited this from his mom, Gloria (Gloria grew up in Columbia
and had many bad influences as a kid such as stealing). Manny can be related to Stephanie in Full
house because she also makes a mistake, She cuts Jessie s precious hair. Stephanie is kind of stubborn

episode they start in a grocery store ,then go to Manny s house, then the school, then Phil s house, and

in Full House. As in Modern Family when Claire had to prove she was right, This entailed going to the
store and buying the tapes to show that she was wrong. In the past you couldn t just got to the store to
buy the video camera recordings. They didn t even have cameras to record what you were doing. This
is very different than Full House in which the main settings are all at one house. The consist of
upstairs, downstairs, and the backyard. Throughout the episode they do not show any other places.
With the power of technology we are about to now go to many different places. Also in Full House
they have laugh reels ,that are not very believable, to show the audience when something funny has

Drug Abuse And Addiction
Drug Abuse and Addiction
Individuals are well on the way to begin drug abuse including alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and many
more drugs which are illegal. It has been seen that most affected category falls under the effect of drug
abuse is adolescence and young adulthood. The percentage of senior students during their high school,
who will have tried alcohol is 70 percent in the ratio and 40 percent of them start smoking and nearly
20 percent of them start taking prescription drugs. (National Institute on Drug Abuse, The principles

This gives birth to the antisocial activities such as robbery, physical abuse, snatching and many more.
There is not only one theory that why people become addictive to drugs, however there is always a
combinations of many factors. Here are the major two theories as to why this social problem of drug
abuse exists in the society. Firstly, The genetic theory (Schukit. P.no 452. Theories On Drug Abuse ) is
related to biological aspects. Genetic factor plays a pivotal role in the physiological drive of an
individual. Genetic theory means transmission of genes to children by their parents. An individual
may become addictive to the substance if any of his ancestor was also addicted to that same substance.
Secondly, Self esteem theory (Howar B. Kaplan,Phd. Pno157. Theories On Drug Abuse ), this theory
is based upon self esteem motives. The key variables of self esteem theory are drug availability,
feelings of inferiority or superiority, social pressure/acceptability, coping mechanism, immediate
gratification and life style. People falls under the theory of self esteem become dependents of illicit
substances like hallucinogens, barbiturates, amphetamines, marijuana and alcohol. These substances
are observed as an alternative action to self rejecting attitudes.
At three levels the social issue of drug and addiction can be seen in society. These three levels are
Micro, Macro and Meso. The social issue under Micro level theory of drug abuse and addiction

The Knights Of The Golden Circle Analysis
Many people believe they know the full story of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln; little
do they know, there is a lot more to this story. This extra information deals with a society that centered
around two things, secrecy and slavery. This group was known predominantly as the Knights of the
Golden Circle (KGC). The Knights of the Golden Circle was a secret organization that promoted and
wanted to expand slavery and who played a part in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The Knights
of the Golden Circle was founded on July 4, 1854 in Lexington, Kentucky. It was founded by George
W. Bickley and five other men, whom he contacted and brought together (Longley). The newly
founded society took the place of another organization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even so, there is evidence that Booth was part of the Knights. A trunk that belonged to Booth was
found after Lincoln s death. In it were symbols and coded messages used by the Knights. Modern
researchers have decoded these and have reported that they deal with Lincoln (Ghost Towns of the
East). Along with this, Booth was known for traveling to Montreal often. Montreal was the operations
center for high ranking officials of the Knights at the time (Getler).
Even with all of this information, a person can only guess what was truly happening the whole time.
This is due in part because of the Knights being so secrecy. Even though it is known that Booth did
indeed assassinate Lincoln, it is not known why he went through with it. Was it his own anger towards
losing the war? Or did the Knights assign him to do it? This may forever stay a mystery. All that can
be said for sure is that Booth was a member of the Knights of the Golden Circle, and he took the life
of an innocent man, changing history forever. The rest is up for a person to decide for

Avant-Galsch Art Expressionism
During the nineteen forties and fifties, the art economy in America exploded after several of the artists
that previously lived in Europe flooded into New York because of the immense damage in Europe
from the second world war.
The most influential Art Critic of the 20th century, Clement Greenburg argued that art with any sort of
illusionistic representation or reference was regressive art because it gives an audience the answers
right away and lacks authenticity. Any work that had a connection to popular culture, that everyone
understood, and was inherently enjoyed was called kitsch . Kistchy art was also a threat to Greenburg
and other critics because it could easily be used to control the masses. Any government or authority is
able to pluck out any iconography that a society is fond of, and use it to control the them with slanted
political messages.
Avant Garde art asks questions that people can t answer right away, and Greensburg states that an if
audience has to think about the meaning then art is kept alive. In his essay Avant Garde and Kitsch
(1939), Greenburg states that painting should be a sensuous experience about paint on canvas, color
relationships and texture. Abstract Expressionism would be the first Avant Guarde movement to
emerge out of North America. This movement was about gestural paint strokes, and artists realizing
physic depth of the unconscious mind. Greensburg was a huge advocate for this movement, but as art

Male Dingoes Essay
Dingoes reproduce once per year, depending on the estrus cycle of the female dingo. The estrus cycle
usually comes once a year, but can come twice although the female dingo can only become pregnant
once a year (with the second time only seeming to be pregnant).
Male dingoes in most regions are virile throughout the entire year, but usually have a lower sperm
production in the summer. During studies on dingoes from the Eastern Highlands and Central
Australia living in captivity, no breeding cycle was noticed. The breeding was only regulated by the
heat of the female dingoes. A rise in the testosterone was observed in the male dingoes during the
breeding season (1 March 30 June), but this was shown to be linked to the heat of the female dingoes
and copulation. In contrast to the captive dingoes, captured dingo male from Central Australia did
show a male breeding cycle. The captured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the mating season, dingoes actively defend their territory by using vocalisations, growling,
barking and dominance behaviour.
Most female dingoes living in the wild begin breeding at the age of two. Within their packs, the alpha
female goes into heat before the subordinate dingoes and suppresses mating attempts from the other
female dingoes. Male dingoes become sexually mature between the ages of one and three. The exact
beginning of breeding depends on age, seasonal conditions, geographic range and social status.
Among dingoes living in captivity, the pre estrus can last up to sixty days in the wild.
Generally, the only dingoes that can successfully breed in a pack are the alpha male and female, so the
other dingoes help to raise the dingo pups. The subordinates are actively prevented from breeding by
the alpha pair although some subordinate females have false pregnancies. If the pack structure breaks
up, low ranking or lone dingoes can successfully

Laughter and music are very important in many people s lives. Whether it is a funny joke, seeing
something that s amusing, or starting the day listening to a favorite song, Laughter and music can
make a person feel good. Not many people realize the health benefits that come with laughter and
music; both can affect a person s health in a positive way. This research paper will explain the ways

There are many health benefits that come with laughter. First of all, laughter and exercise share many
similar characteristics. When you have a good laugh you get a feeling in your stomach just like when
you ve had a really good workout. Both can boost your health, and ultimately make you stronger.
Sometimes people are faced with tough situations that we have no control over. In those times you can
either get worked up about them, or you can lighten up the situation and have a good laugh, laughing
will help you cope in those unexpected times and help you get through it. It can make anyone feel
better from a difficult situation and that is a great benefit. With that said, laughing can decrease stress.
When we are faced with anxiety, stress hormones like cortisol and epinephrine start to get high. Lots
of laughter will decrease those stress hormones and make you feel better. According to
http://www.cdc.gov/bloodpressure/facts.htm 67 million American adults suffer with high blood
pressure that s 1 of every 3 adults . Laughter can improve cardiac health; laughter can lower the
balance of high blood pressure and is known to increase blood flow. When you are laughing that is
causing your blood to circulate, and increases oxygen. This is what helps fight against heart disease.

Light Essays
LIGHT: A FUNDAMENTAL FORCE IN OUR WORLD
If asked what light is, one could say that it s one of the most basic
elements of our world and our universe as we perceive it. It is through
sight that we receive 90% of our information. It is through the use of
telescopes aiding the naked eye that we are aware of the heavenly bodies
around us. It is through light that the energy from the sun is transferred
to us. The sun s energy supports the food chain; plants use it to turn
water and CO2 into energy usable by other organisms. Solar energy was also
used, indirectly, to produce all of the fossil fuels that we consume daily.
Since light is such a basic part of our existence, we should have a basic ... Show more content on

When these return to their normal, or quot;ground quot; state, energy is
produced in the form of electricity. Thus, light is termed a
quot;wave particle, quot; and this property is called the quot;wave particle duality of
nature. quot; Many questions concerning what makes up light still lie
unanswered, but this much is thought to be true.
Light can be produced in a variety of ways. Our sun, like other stars,
uses nuclear fusion to produce energy in the form of light and radiation.
We can produce light artificially using several methods. If one starts a
fire, it produces light and heat. (Heat, which is infrared radiation, is
another type of light energy.) The light and heat are a result of a
chemical reaction, the combining of oxygen with the carbon in the wood.
This reaction leaves behind products which have less potential energy than
they started with. The energy, which left as light and heat, was produced
when electrons dropped in energy levels during the reaction. The excess
energy from one atom was given off as a photon, producing light. If one
examines a fluorescent or incandescent light bulb, one can see that all it
is doing is having electricity stimulate a metallic or gaseous substrate,
causing it to give off photons. The principle is the same as it was with
the fire, only it is more controlled. Still more

New Zealanders Should Never Dream Of Being Cruel
New Zealanders would never dream of being cruel to an animal. After all animals are sentient beings.
Therefore they are capable of being aware of sensations and emotions of feeling pain and suffering. In
today s world, factory farming has become popular as they are cheaper ways to produce more output
efficiently. The industry strives to maximize output and revenue while minimising cost at the expense
of animals. The giant companies that run most of the factory farming have developed caging systems
which allow for greater animals to be living in small crammed space for greater profit and
output. These animals are deprived of exercise of that their body s energy contributes more towards
producing flesh, milk or egg. Drugs are fed and animals are being genetically altered to be grown fat
so they could keep them alive longer. We as humans, eat a lot of eggs. Just over 3 million eggs are
consumed by New Zealanders and the vast majority of these eggs are produced from factory farmed
eggs (Hibbard, 2014). The factory farmed hens are placed in small battery hen cages allowing space
similar to an A4 size sheet. These animals have their beaks trimmed to minimise feather pecking and
cannibalism in this overcrowded conditions. De beaking is an extremely painful process, which is
carried out with a guillotine type machine or chopped off with a hot knife machine that burns it off.

and delivery of patient care. One system that SGH uses to promote quality is the use of computerized
physician order entry (CPOE) system which reduces medication errors. Another way Southwest
General promotes the measurement of quality data is by becoming the first local hospital to use a high

Spoken Language Essay
Explore some of the similarities and differences between the language young people use in their
spoken language and how young people communicate on web based communication such as MSN and
Facebook. The world has changed greatly over the years. The language has evolved and culture has

networking sites, such as MSN and Facebook. Especially the younger generation that have developed
a new form of communication that s not Standard English which we have called slang . I am going to

You will find that punctuation is rarely used in most texts and if there is any then it will occur
randomly or be over used throughout the conversation because at the end of the day there are no rules
to online communication. Consequently, there are lots of concerns about online communication use
and its potential dangers. John Humphrys says, It s pillaging our punctuation; savaging our sentences;
raping our vocabulary. I agree with him as text speak is slowly taking over our Standard English, more
than ever now as nearly everyone has a mobile device. One of the major disadvantages about text
speak is that since it is not standard, there are no single spelling for some words and as different
people have different texting styles, one might misunderstand the message and feel offended due to
this misinterpretation. In addition to this, when people write text messages in text speak, they often
lose depth and meaning, sadly people often forget how to write in Standard English using correct,
standard spelling and grammar. Also, more and more people are using their mobile phones all the
time; this could possibly lead to anxiety as they are constantly checking their phones for any new
texts/notifications etc. Texting and typing too much can lead to repetitive stress injury which isn t
something that young people should have. Likewise, some teenagers may

The Influence Of Pierre Trudeau On Canadian History
Pierre Trudeau`s legacy presents evidence that indicates he was the most influential figure in Canadian
history. Throughout his career, his belief of a distinct Canada apart from Britain has grown and has
developed into many important decisions for Canada to solidify Canada`s reputation among the world
(Bibliography par. 1). Moreover, he strongly believed in a unified country with Quebec, thus
completely rejecting the idea of Quebec separatism, which helped develop Canada`s multiculturalism
(1980 Referendum par. 3). Lastly, he believed in full acceptance of culture and language, therefore he
played a significant role in the creation of official bilingualism. (Bibliography par. 1). Clearly, Pierre

1). Evidently, the Official Languages Act was the key to improving their relationship and created a
pathway to a unified Canada. Firstly, this act helped maintain and strong connection with Quebec and
prevented their total isolation from Canada (par. 1). To explain, Quebec sought to maintain their
culture and preserve the French language and if the terms were not met, they would attempt to leave
Canada (Quebec par. 2). Therefore, this act agreed upon the terms that the Quebecers wanted and
allowed every single Canadian citizen to seek services in their preferred language (Understand par. 1).
This right allowed French Canadians to feel less disconnected with the rest of Canada, thus fixing the
English and French relationship. Secondly, this act prevented discrimination between the two cultures,
as rights were created to merge the two languages into the Canadian society (Understand par. 3). For
example, a section in the Official Languages Act states that federal institutions are required to provide
services in both official languages (par. 3). In other words, these two languages were now
implemented into the Canadian society and English Canadians became more exposed to this minority
culture, which lead to acceptance of the French culture and language. Lastly, the Official Languages
Act endorsed the advancement of

Betrayal In Medea
In the tragedy, Medea by Euripides, there is an element of suffering when it comes to the betrayal of
her husband, Jason, leaving her for another woman. She faces many struggles internally that cause her
to lash out and, in my opinion, is irrational. Medea takes on a more masculine role as the play
progresses. Something that the viewers could take from the tragedy, is that it s not always right to act
on an impulse, whether it is out of hatred or passion. Medea acted in a way that I feel like could ve
been avoided, but she felt her being betrayed called for extreme actions. Medea s first struggle was
being exiled by Kreon, which was later resolved when Aegeus offered her a home with him. She
begged for Kreon to let her stay in order to find somewhere else because of her children and he
agreed. Her begging and using her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can learn from Medea s actions that she reacted in a way that shows she has lost her mind. As
stated earlier, her love turned hatred for Jason, clouded her personal morals. Killing her own kids,
even though it saddened her, was overshadowed by seeing Jason suffer. While Jason can be considered
the bad guy in the play, Medea can also be considered so. He left her and his children for his own
selfishness but Medea murdered a total of four people, including her own kids. They were both selfish
and even though it ended up mostly backfiring for him, Medea has to live with the fact that she
committed such crimes. Her hamartia would be letting the passion/love/hatred rule over her and
decided to kill Kreon, his daughter, and her children. She reacted on impulse instead of thinking about
her actions and what they meant for her future self. As human beings, we are taught right from wrong

Responsibility In Mitch Albom s The Five You Will Meet In...
Social responsibility is a phrase with many interpretations and meanings. Many believe social
responsibility is like being a brother s keeper. A brother s keeper is a male or female willing to put
their own beliefs and feelings aside to be responsible for the greater good.A literary example of this
interpretation of social responsibility, can be found the 2003 bestseller,The Five People You Will Meet
in Heaven. The author,Mitch Albom, incorporates the idea of social responsibility in many of his
characters. Each character has an element or lesson of social responsibility: the shows how everyone
is connected, how sacrifice, acceptance and forgiveness is an essential to life and to responsibility
Albom included these concept in an attempt to make the readers reflect on their own interpretations
and beliefs of social responsibility.
The first lesson of social responsibility in this story is about awareness of actions and how they are
connected. Albom reveals this lesson by incorporating the Blue Man. The Blue Man is a nickname for
a physically deformed man,Joseph Corvelzchik, who Eddie indirectly kills as a child, running after a
ball in the street. also known as, The Blue Man, receives his nickname because of how the sliver

representation of responsibility. Sacrifice is similar to the first lesson of interconnectivity, sacrificing:

of sacrifice and a major cornerstone of social responsibility The inclusion of a character Eddie

Birthing Cermonies Of Other Cultures Essay
Birthing Cermonies of Other Cultures
The birthing ceremonies of the Indian culture has a lot of different aspects then the American culture
does. I guess that is why they are different cultures. All cultures have different views on different
things such as religion, but they also share the same as well for example every culture has some form
of the family. This is what helps most cultures understand other cultures. In the Indian culture their
view of bringing a child into the world is much different then the American culture s view.
In the Indian culture there are a lot of preparations that go into getting the parents and the community

Student athletes will use steroids to increase their strength for a better outcome in their competition.
Testosterone is a common hormone in the body that most athletes abuse (Marzilli 12). Testosterone is
produced naturally in the body of any animal ( Steroids in Sports ). It creates alertness and
aggressiveness to improve performance ( Steroids in Sports ). That is why early athletes used to take
some form of medication to boost the production of testosterone in their body. Both males and females
will consume steroids to increase testosterone in their body. Due to all the medical advantages that
steroids have to an individual, athletes use them to achieve and to sharpen their performance. Apart
from fatigue and letting athletes train for hours, steroids also act as a compound to lactic acid which
causes muscle pain during physical struggles ( Steroids in Sports ). Steroids also contain the hormones
that can increase quickly to recover from injuries ( Steroids in Sports ). Since steroids can increase
endurance levels several times, athletes find it simple to run faster and improve their performance in
sports. According to Gary Becker, performance enhancers, like steroids and other types of doping,

Industrial Of The Industrial Revolution

The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution set people away from farms and small villages and moved them to cities
and towns because of the job opportunities that arose in the cities. The Industrial Revolution not only
helped people move along in the late 1700s and early 1800s but also it has made the people what they
are today. During the Industrial Revolution, the movement from an agrarian society to an industrial
one reshaped the roles of families, widen the gap between classes, and led to the developments in
communication, transportation, and other scientific fields that completely changed humanity.
The Industrial Revolution started in the late 1700s and early 1800s which helped the transition from
agrarian to one of industrial. Before the factories were made, the common folk would work on the
farms that would make the food that they would need to survive, and they would also make their own
clothes. All the clothes and materials that the people had before the industrial revolution they would
make themselves because there was no mass production of items being made and the people who
would sell the items never had enough in their inventory for everyone to buy. Factories started to arise
making it easier to mass produce items that the people wanted, like cloths and eventually everyday
materials. Those factories and opportunities for work is why people moved into cities.( History.com)

Annie Dillard s This is the Life , an addition to the publication of A Journal of Art and Religion ,
Dillard persuades the readers to ponder the purpose of their lives. Dillard provokes self contemplation
through asking and repeating rhetorical questions and phrases, illusions that support her point, and an
inspirational didactic tone. The structure of Dillard s sentences vary from simple statements to
exclamatory clauses. The most intriguing sentences within her work are her rhetorical questions. She
begins her first series of rhetorical questions when she examines the cliques and social groups that
create society. She ponders, Who is your everyone? Chess masters scarcely surround themselves with

The beanstalk illusion of climbing above the cloudy visions of society is one that is intertwined
throughout the essay. Dillard explains, What would you do differently, you up on your beanstalk
looking at scenes of all peoples at all times in all places? (Dillard 3). This elevated, beanstalk vision
not only raises understanding of living, but also causes a more complete view of humanity. After this
mountain top, or beanstalk top moment, the time to return to society comes and Dillard probes the
hearts of her readers, When you climb down, would you dance any less to the music you love, [...] If
you descend the long rope ladders back to your people and time in the fabric, if you tell them what
you have seen, and even if someone cares to listen, then what? (Dillard 3). Dillard is delicately asking
one of the greatest questions of the worth of spreading knowledge. However, in this hegemonic
society of believing that all must think as one and for one goal in life, those who reach the top of the
beanstalk and see clearly above the clouds must descend and multiple their newfound knowledge to

Marilyn Monroe Informative Speech
The year is 1962. The audience of Madison Square Garden is packed full of the rich and famous.
Among them sits the guest of honor in all his glory, President John F. Kennedy. All eyes are tuned into
the stage, among it stands a blond bombshell crooning into a microphone. The words Happy Birthday
Mr. President slip through her lips in a light breathy voice. To her family she is Norma Jeane but to the
world, she is Marilyn Monroe (Thomson, 2016).
She was a sex symbol, a pinnacle for women, and an all around icon. Marilyn s persona appealed to
the masses as effortless. But contrary to those beliefs, her efforts were thought through and calculated.
During her childhood little Norma Jeane was shy and plagued by low self esteem (Victor, 1999). ...

Marilyn didn t spend time with speech pathologists but instead with drama and vocal coaches (Victor,
1999). These coaches helped her harness and control her stutter and instead take her struggle and turn
it into something positive. In the beginning of her career, Marilyn s voice was described as a tight
squeak (Victor, 1999). Through the guides of her vocal coaches the voice we all know and recognize
as Marilyn Monroe, was created. To a large extent, the Marilyn voice of the first half of her career,
with its exaggerated clarity and staccato stressing of d and t , was the result of tutoring from Lytess
(Victor, 1999). Lytess encouraged her to lower her tone and from that rose Marilyn s infamous breathy
seductive timbre. It is believed that this change in how she speaks, almost as if in character, is what
cured Marilyn s stutter (Victor, 1999). The idea of modifying ones tone, proves to be a successful
method of therapy in the world of speech pathology Many of the current therapies for teens and adults
who stutter focus on helping them learn ways to minimize stuttering when they speak, such as by
speaking more slowly, regulating their breathing, or gradually progressing from single syllable
responses to longer words and more complex sentences. Most of these therapies also help address the

medications. We crushed all the medications and mixed them into some of his pudding. When I came
to give him the spoon of pudding, he was asleep. I gently awoke him and told him that I had his
pudding. I tried putting the spoon in his mouth and he pushed my hand away. Then, the aid got up and
tried holding his hands and telling him that it was good for him and he would get ice cream after this. I
finally got half the spoon in his mouth and just when I thought he took the pudding, he spit out the
entire thing onto his shirt and arm and started wiping the pudding off his mouth with his sheet. My
clinical instructor told me to stop trying and that he would get the nurse to try and finish giving him
what was left.
I was having a lot of thoughts and emotions while this episode was unfolding. There was of course the
fear of the patient that everyone in the hospital was trying to hurt him, and there was also my fear that
if he would not get his anti seizure medications, he would seize in the next few hours and that would
be my fault. I also did not like the response of my clinical instructor to the whole situation. Instead

Find a specific niche to target on your college campus, focus on it, and do it well. A broad travel or
comedy channel has been done to death, and the competition is too strong.
Instead, try creating and marketing your channel to your classmates, faculty, and alumni. A channel
that reviews dining hall food, interviews staff, showcases clubs and events, shares breaking campus
news, or recaps parties are all a good place to start. Of course, the more ridiculous, hilarious, and
entertaining your channel is, the better.
Spend a few hours goofing off with friends and making your videos, spread the word, and as views go
up, your bank account will as well.
3. Invest
Investing requires the largest amount of income on this list, but it also takes the least amount of work.
So, if you have some money in the bank but no time on your hands, this may be the passive income

Investing is a broad term that encapsulates many different options. You can buy a rental property (ok,
that s probably not possible for most college students) but you can also think a little smaller.

My Autoethnography Of Selfie
Autoethnography Essay

According to the Oxford Dictionary, selfie can be defined as a photograph that one has taken of
oneself (selfie, 2017). However, according to Rettberg, selfies are so much more than just a
photograph on the Internet, they are a form of digital self representation (Rettberg, 2014). I still
remember the very first selfie I took, with the back camera of an old Nokia phone. This was before the
invention of the front facing camera and in comparison, I must say that my selfie skills have most
definitely improved. Just like with age, my selfies have evolved over time and in this
autoethnography, I will be looking at three different selfies from three different points in my life and
examining how they represented me in those different moments. This essay will touch mainly on how
my selfies represent my gender and sexuality and how over time I had learned to embrace both aspects
of myself. I will start off by presenting a selfie from 2012, which was taken during one of my more
awkward stages in life when I was studying in an all girls Catholic high school.
This first selfie was my Facebook profile picture for a while. At this time, I was halfway through high
school and was slowly, but steadily, coming out of a very awkward stage. The thing about being in all

Winter Fog Causes And Disadvantages
During the cold winter of Delhi, the 5 year olds smokes on an average 2 packs of cigarettes per day.
This smoking problem is not confined to 5 year olds, but every Delhiite who is exposed to the
hazardous winter fog endures a damage equivalent to 2 packs of cigarettes. Delayed flights and trains,
school closures, black outs, accidents on highways has become a norm during winter in the past 20
years. Apart from the economical losses, a major health impact in the form of a decrease in lung
function and acute respiratory diseases is affecting the 18.6 million citizens of Delhi. Recently, the
Delhi government had declared a public health emergency owing to the poor air quality, which
features often in very poor and severe category, according to the Air Quality Index (AQI) consistently
during these winters. The presence of fine particles, indicated by PM 10 and PM 2.5 in AQI,
contributes to the poor quality of the air and is the major cause for fogs. Sources of these fine particles
vary from the emissions from industrial and automobile emissions to the sand particles transported by
global winds. 2 Origins of the winter fog The beginning of winter in Northern India, marked by the
largest festival known as Diwali, is the end of the rice harvesting season. The residue stubble on the
fields at the end of the rice harvesting season doesn t hold any economic value, hence the farmers
resort to burning of 70 80 million tonnes of the stubble. Similarly as the temperatures approach
freezing temperatures, the general public rely more on bio mass burning for heating, warmth and
cooking purposes. Further, the industrial complexes draw more thermally generated electric power and
hence leading to an increase of coal emissions. These aerosols from outside the city gets transported
and adds into the fine particle sizes from the automobile emissions and road dust generated within the
city. And the fine particles serve as sites of condensation, forming misty droplets that doesn t settle.

formation of fog are abundant supply of moisture and the increase of temperature with height. Both of

Our Responsibility to Enlightenment
Immanuel Kant, a well known philosopher and writer, once said in his essay An Answer to the
Question: What is Enlightenment?, Nothing is required for this enlightenment, however, except
freedom; and the freedom to question is the least harmful of all, namely, the freedom to use reason
publicly in all matters. But on all sides I hear: Do not argue! The officer says, Do not argue, drill! The
tax man says, Do not argue, pay! The pastor says, Do not argue, believe! Throughout his essay, and
many other works, there is a call to throw off the shackles of blind acceptance and come into a new
light of reason and continuous questioning and analysis. This is the basis for modern science; what we
cannot explain, we explore, and even that which we are certain of is subject to discussion, debate, and
open criticism. In our culture there has been a tacit compliance to allow knowledge and debate fall to
the back burners, behind what experts say and what we read in the newspaper or hear on the
television. There has been an unspoken agreement with the media, the churches, the government, and
even college institutions saying: We don t care to learn or understand. Just tell us what we need to
know to survive, and here s what money we have (plus much that we don t) for you to tell us these
things. I would respectfully, but vehemently disagree with this status quo. As I will continue to
emphasize, reason, debate, and discussion are the paths to knowledge and change that we

Peter Hennessy s The Office Of The Prime Minister
The Office of the Prime Minister is what its holder chooses and is able to make of it. (3) The quote by

office holder can lead the government the way he or she wishes. Hennessy adds that there has been a
large expansion in the power of the Prime Minister since 1945. The book primarily sheds light on 11
post World War II leaders and their own undertaking of the office.
The Prime Minister is probably the one book that anyone needs to read in order to achieve a complete

William Hall once said, People have a lot in common with one another, whether they see that or not.
This fact was made evident through reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseni and East of Eden by
John Steinbeck, two novels about the lives of people thousands of miles apart but take on the similar
challenges and try to lead decent and fulfilling lives. There were minute differences between the
novels, but for the most part the books were very similar. Through analyzing themes, motifs and
symbols within these novels, one cannot help but recognize the cords that unite humankind and defy
all boundaries.
The dynamics of father son relationships are central to both novels. In The Kite Runner, Amir has a
very complex relationship with his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Hassan s case, Amir sacrifices him for the blue kite and Baba s love. In Sohrab s case, his sacrifice
is the exploitation of an innocent child and is eventually stopped by Amir. However, both sacrifices
have life changing consequences for the lambs and everyone involved.
Physical characteristics are used within both novels as symbols. In The Kite Runner, Hassan s cleft lip
(which he was born with) is his most noticeable features during childhood and is used most to describe
him. This deformity is used to symbolize Hassan s status within society as a Hazara, one of the things
that separates him and Amir, simply because he cannot afford to have cosmetic surgery. I believe he
was born with this defect to show that the prejudice started against Hazaras at birth and could never be
stopped despite all efforts (in this case Hassan s cosmetic surgery). Social status, ethnicity and religion
played a major part in the novel, which Amir admits himself, In the end, I was a Pashtun and he was a
Hazara, I was Sunni and he was Shi a, and nothing was ever going to change that. Nothing (Hosseni
32). These dividing factors eventually begin to distance Amir and Hassan and the community s views
about Hazaras began to affect Amir s thinking. He is unable to fully view Hassan as a friend (or
brother) because of his race and superior social status. greatly contributed to his ability to allow
Hassan to be taken advantage of something he d forever regret.

Similarities Between Good Night And Good Luck
I think that the issues presented in the movie Good Night and Good Luck are important to the history
of television because Ed Murrow had the courage to step up and challenge senator of Wisconsin
Joseph McCarthy about many of the issues that were going on in the early 1950. Murrow was brave
enough to report that people rights were being violated by not providing enough evidence and judging
them. For example the lady that was in court for supposable ties with communism and was fired from
her job without further investigation. In addition, he also reported about the air force officer that was
dismissed from the air force just because his dad had ties with communist. This officer didn t even had
the opportunity to have a fair trial he was found guilty without any evidence. I think that this journalist
made history because he presented the real issues that were going on in the real world without being ...

They were harassed or threaten to lose their sponsorship to their programming if they didn t follow
directions. However Murrow s honesty and courage was stronger than the harassment made about him
losing his job if he continued to report on controversial issues. Another thing that I also found
interesting how people didn t have the right to a fair hearing during that mandate of McCarthy. I just
think that it was very unfair to many people that were accused of having ties with communist or being
a communist because they would lose their job without further investigation. Furthermore, I also
found interesting how a Joe and Shirley couldn t work together because they married and it was
against policy rules. They had to hide their marriage from everyone to avoid being fired from their
job. I just found this very unfair because there was not conflict of interest since they both worked as
reporters and neither one had higher authority over the

Frankenstein Pursuit Of Knowledge
Since Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein is written as a piece of Gothic Fiction, this could create the
illusion that the themes of fear, death, and horror point towards a widespread criticism of human
nature and life. However this is not the case. In many instances, Shelley s work serves the purpose of
comparing and evaluating to what extent her respective protagonists interact with the various
temptations that define her novel. This varied assessment should be considered a critique, as it
provides a widespread analysis, balancing opposing perspectives that contain varied interpretations of
morality. The theme of the pursuit of knowledge is a textbook example of how Shelley takes a general
theme, and redefines it within the context of her novel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Proving to be a foil character to the end, Walton learns from Victor s mistakes and returns home with
his crew before it is to late, providing an alternative perspective for Shelley s evaluation of how the
pursuit of knowledge can corrupt the mind. Walton emphasizes how he cannot lead them unwillingly
to danger and must return, (219) not as a means to abandon his purpose but to reevaluate it entirely.
Shelley wants her reader to question if the pursuit of knowledge exists for the sake of glory or the sake
of tranquility, seeing Victor embrace the former while Walton ultimately embraces the latter. Shelly
uses Victor s last words as an evaluation and summary of his mistakes, highlighting a shift in his tone
where he speaks with a defeatists mentality after having been prideful for so long exclaiming, farewell
Walton! Seek happiness in tranquility and avoid ambition...yet another may succeed. (220) Victor s
final words are not only directed at Walton, but directed at the reader as well. Shelley wants to
emphasize the lack of correlation between tranquility and ambition with the additional example of the
Monsters simplistic pursuits in the back of the reader s mind as well. Victors last words yet another
may succeed are the most direct indication of a critique because they suggest that it is not the pursuit
of knowledge that leads Victor to his deathbed, but instead the way in which he went about attaining
it. Ultimately, by learning from Victor, Walton attains powerful knowledge in the sense that he likely
saves his own life life comes to the understanding there is more more danger to the unknown than
good. Therefore, Shelley critiques the pursuit of knowledge by widening the scope of how it can be
defined, weighing the resolutions of Victor and Walton on

Debt To Credit Ratio Essay
The debt to credit ratio is the calculation of how much you are using the credit that is available to you.
It is an indication of how heavily your finances lean on credit. This ratio accounts for 30% of your
credit score. It is next to your payment history, which is 35%. An understanding of this ratio can help
you improve your FICO score.
Your debt to credit ratio is calculated as follows:
Debt used divided by available credit multiplied by hundred = Debt to credit ratio
For example a debt of $2,000 on a credit card of $4,000 limit = 50%
$3,000 on the same card account gives a ratio of 75%.
Your overall debt to credit ratio is calculated by dividing the total of amount debt by the total of your
credit limits. It is also done for each separate

The Volleyball spike shall always hit with a great force and in a downward angle, henceforth making it
hard for the defense to hit it back. As can be seen here in my video, I was successful in doing that as I

takes a great amount of force to execute, henceforth it would be beneficial to use as many body parts

spike was involved in the second subroutine, the jump, which comes under the factor of great range of
motion. A massive complication when it came to my spike was that I had a very bad execution in the
jump off my spike. My approach in the spike was great

The witness, Wali Khan, is thirty five years old and can speak, read and write English. He initially

Strategies to improve the prevention of pressure ulcers
Judy Elliott describes a project that sought to improve tissue viability during the patient journey from
admission to discharge
Summary
This article outlines the actions taken by one acute trust to implement evidence based, best practice
recommendations for pressure ulcer prevention. Initially, an exploratory study identified specific areas
for practice development, particularly improving early risk assessment, intervention and focus on heel
ulcers. Further actions included recruiting tissue viability support workers to promote a pressure ulcer

include observable discolouration and palpable tissue changes such as localised bogginess, heat or
cold (NICE 2005). International guidelines (EPUAP/NPUAP 2009) advise a structured approach to
risk assessment using a combination of all three techniques. Ecirly intervention Once risk is identified
immediate action is imperative to minimise risk of pressure ulcer development. As evidence is weak
for specific interventions a number of areas should be addressed, involving ecirly initiation of
preventive action, improving tissue tolerance and protecting from the adverse effects of pressure,
friction and shear (Calianno 2007). Nutrition and tissue loading are two areas of nursing influence.
Strategies to ensure optimal nutrition should be used and the provision of oral nutritioneil supplements
has been associated with reduced tissue breakdown (Bourdel Marchasson et al 2000). Tissue loading
may be addressed by manual and mechcinical repositioning, mobüisation and exercise. Strategies to
minimise shear forces include addressing posture, moving and handling techniques and use of electric
profiling beds (Keogh and Dealey 2001). Positioning and repositioning Research has not established
an optimeil frequency of patient repositioning (Defloor et al 2005). Repositioning should be
undertaken on an individual basis in Une with ongoing skin evaluation,

Rhetorical Analysis On Civil Disobedience
Civil Disobedience Similar to Douglas, Thoreau writes against the injustice of slavery and the
despotism of government. Thoreau starts his essay by stating that Government is best which governs
least since government becomes despotic with corruption. He further adds in his essay Government is
best which governs not at all with the same sentiment of civil disobedience against the injustices of
government. For that reason Thoreau makes the argument that Government not practical because it
does not pass the test of morality.
Moreover, Thoreau s repudiation of the government s standing army is why the government fails this
test of morality. For Thoreau, government is the mode by which people execute their will. Therefore,
it is the people who have the right to disobey civil government because it draws its strength from the
will of the majority. His criticism extends to the power of the strong, since the power of the strong
does not translate to the justice and question the people s resignation of their rights to the legislator.
Lastly, Thoreau argues that government lost some of its integrity. For Thoreau, when the tyranny
becomes great and unendurable, men have the right to revolution and the right to refuse their
allegiance and resist government. Even voting for the right is doing nothing for it according to
Thoreau. Even in his criticism of voting, Thoreau expresses that people would vote to abolish slavery
once they feel indifferent about it. Furthermore, Thoreau considered the Constitution a form of human
law based on moral principle. Therefore, the Constitution should not subject people to relinquish their
natural rights, and men should resist civil government in return.
Bartelby
In agreement with Thoreau s philosophy of civil disobedience, Melville argues about the political
consequences for resisting government through his story of Bartelby. This character illustrates the
connection between Fredrick Douglas life as a slave to the system that turned him into a machine.
Bartelby s story as an scrivener, narrates the life of a man who becomes aggravated with the system in
place, and disobeys the orders of his master the lawyer.
Evidenced by his refusal to work, Bartelby seals his fate as he faces

Disadvantages Of Electronic Media
Electronic communications have taken over young generations life. College and high school students
prefers talking on social media rather than face to face conversations. Students get most of the news or
information from the social media according to Rick Nauert, a senior news editor, For most of the
students reporting in the study, information of all kinds comes in an undifferentiated wave to them via
social media (Nauert). Electronic communications have disadvantages on students life. The articles,
Harrisburg U. s Social Media Blackout Is More of a Brownout, by Don Troop and Growing Up
Digital, Wired for Distraction, by Matt Richtel discusses about the impact of social media on students
life. All three articles have a commonality about the side effects of social media and its use. Over
usage of social media made young generation addicted to social media, unable to concentrate on study,
and encourage the universities to block social media on the campus network as an experiment. Many
students are addicted to social media. According to the article, College Students Addicted to Social
Media, study Finds, the students were addicted to the social ties friendship and relationships with
other(Nauert). Students have become so addicted to social media that it is arduous for them to live
without it. In fact, students describe their feelings when they have to abstain from using media in
literally the same terms associated with drug and alcohol addictions: in withdrawal, frantically
craving, very anxious, extremely antsy, miserable, jittery, and crazy (Nauret). Students get so much
involve in social media that they forget almost everything else. According to the researchers, The risk,
they say, is that developing brains can become more easily habituated than adult brains to constantly
switching tasks and less able to sustain attention (Richtel). Young students are more likely to become
an addicted very quickly. Many students get most of their information via social media because they
are constantly using social media in their daily life. For instance, For most of the students reporting in

  • 2. The Summer Night In The Summer And The Last Summer I remember it as if it was yesterday, maybe because it was yesterday. No, I m merely kidding. It was this summer. Not this coming summer, the last summer. And not the summer of the year 2016, the one from this year, 2017. What happened that summer night? Numerous things. It was any other typical summer day for me in the ole Fritz household. I was getting bored doing things with Hallie, the dog, or by myself. I thought of a brilliant idea, I ll invite Kennedy over, it s been forever since I ve seen her. (It hadn t been an extremely long time since I last saw her, we simply enjoy hanging out.) Accordingly, I called her up and asked, Hey, are you busy today? Because if not, you should come over to my house and spend the night or something. She said, No, I m not busy. I need to ask if I can come, I m sure she ll say yes. I probably need to clean my room first though. Hence, it might be a while. I told her that was fine and to swing by whenever she was done cleaning, and that was the end of it. I only had to wait an hour, maybe two, before she arrived at my house. We were incredibly excited to see each other because, actually, I have no idea why. I mean yes we re excellent friends, still we saw each other a lot, and we talk, and text all the time. I don t know, we re weird. We always become excited I suppose. We were comparable to when you come home from a vacation and your dog goes crazy because they re happy to see you. Similar to that of a dog, perhaps toned down ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano The Symbolism of the Piano in The Piano The piano has been inextricably linked with the roles and expectations of women in British society since its advent in the mid 1700s to the late 1800s when rising standards of living made it more accessible to middle class society. Pianos were regarded as secure icons of social distinction 1 and a wife was viewed similarly as a possession of privatization, success and respectability. 2 Pianos were instrumental in both reinforcing gender roles and as delineators of class distinction thus perpetuating the class system. 3 While concentrating primarily on Ada, this essay will discuss the symbolism of the piano in The Piano expressed through the relationship with each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The piano is in fact an extension of herself and this connection is emphasised by the fact that the longest gaze in the film is given not to a man looking on a woman but to a woman gazing on a supposedly inanimate object. This gaze emphasises the isolation that she herself feels at this moment. Literature is strewn with references to pianos 6 and its feminine characteristics make it an obvious symbol of the vulnerability and treatment of women. It assumes a feminine role in The Piano. Men of both cultures treat it roughly: Maori manhandle it through the bush, and thump unmusically on it when it is moved to Stewart s house; Stewart keeps time coarsely on its frame as Flora plays for him. Baines acquaintances too, clearly regard it as unmanly to learn to play the piano. The physicality of the piano and its connection to Ada s body is emphasised on many occasions by both Ada and Baines: by Baines who bargains parts of Ada s piano in return for parts of her body he is given permission to touch and see and who, in Ada s absence, strips naked to delicately and lovingly dust the piano; by Ada writing on the A key Ada loves George ; and when barricaded into the house by Stewart and cannot see Baines in person, she removes a key (G) from the piano and inscribes on it Dear George, you have my heart. • 4. Suicide In The Trenches By Siegfried Sassoon The poems Dulce et Decorum est by Wilfred Owen and Suicide in the trenches by Siegfried Sassoon used the techniques of personal pronouns and irony to convey the poet s feelings towards war. Formerly Owen and Sassoon all war poems had been patriotic and was used to encourage employment of young men in war. But, both Owen and Sassoon had seen the horrors of trench warfare themselves and their poetry was therefore become realistic about the unforgiving realities of war. Owen stated on his poems that my subject is war, and the pity of it, all a poet can do is warn. Owen and Sassoon were both trying to warn young men against war and advise the public on how cruel and sickening war actually is. In both poems, after describing the inhumane ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Dulce et Decorum est irony was used in the title of the poem which means it is sweet and fitting . This comes from the saying that was commonly used during World War One: Dulce et Decorum est pro patria mori or It is sweet and fitting to die for your country. This title greatly contradicted the poems content, which described the gruesome death of a soldier from poisonous gas, which is a sickening and horrific, not sweet and fitting, way to die. In Suicide in the trenches a rhythmic technique of iambic tetrameter was used to create irony. This creates a sing song effect, which is greatly contradicted by the diction of the poem. This describes a simple soldier boy committing suicide because the conditions of the trenches caused him to be cowed and glum . Irony was used in these poems to lull the reader into the belief that the poem was going to be cheerful and then shock the reader when they read the diction of the poem. The reader s shock when they read the poem would have caused them to reconsider their thoughts on war and talked to them how disgusting war is and the poet s purpose of how it s wrong to disregard war or spread propaganda about it being glorious. The irony used also shocked me. which caused me to feel sympathy for the soldiers and the horrors they faced in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alternative 2 has the lowest total per a procedure cost. Operating costs of Alternative 1 is $86.15, which is lower than Alternative 2 of $92.15Alternative 2 is higher in operation al cost because there is six dollars in extra costs assessed with travel and set up costs. In short term of 3 years I would Pick Alternative 2 as it is still the lowest cost and does not a substantial increase in cost from the base case. Long run 7 years Alternative 1 o The per a procedure Capital cost decrease as the life span increase as more procedures will be allocated through the life span resulting in a decrease in total per a procedure costs. Cardiovascular Conditioning Essay Cardiovascular fitness shows how the heart and lungs supply oxygen rich blood to the working muscle tissues and the ability of the muscles to use oxygen to produce energy for movement. The ability to deliver oxygen to the muscles is affected by many physiological parameters, including heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac output, and maximal oxygen consumption. Cardiovascular conditioning utilizes and transports the necessary oxygen and nutrients to body tissues. In order for the body to deliver adequate oxygenated blood and nutrients to the muscles, the body has to be well conditioned. By the body being well conditioned it improves the muscles capacity to use extra oxygen. Cardiovascular training is the most important style of training both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The warm up is the most important part of cardiovascular conditioning. Warming up before an intense exercise helps to gradually increase the heart rate and prevent abnormal heart rhythms. Warming up also helps with preventing straining on the heart muscle and heart attacks from abnormal heart rhythms. The warm up period should last about five to ten minutes. During this time the body is preparing for the exercise activities. Warm up exercises prepare the body for exercising by increasing the blood flow to the muscles allowing them to loosen up, which can raise the flow of oxygen to the muscle cells. Doing this gradually increases the body s temperature. This then increases the speed and force of muscular contractions, because nerve impulses travel faster at higher body temperatures, and muscles become less stiff or more pliable. They also help to gradually increase the heart rate and ensure that the demand made on the circulatory and metabolic systems is gradual as well. In a safe and gradual way they allow blood to be diverted away from other parts of the body such as the digestive system to the muscles being exercised. This initial part of your exercise session helps to improve neural function and co ordination, protect major joints as it takes time to increase the supply of lubricating synovial fluid and to thicken the articular cartilages the body s shock absorbers. The place is at City of Whittier, the location is 13230 Penn Street Whittier, CA 90602, and the date I went to go visit was Thursday August 6. It was my first time attending a local governmental meeting. The meeting that was held was titled as The Parking and Transportation Commission. I was glad the topic was on this because I felt keeping our society safe is the most important. So the City Council would do its best to make sure that there would not be hassle while driving on the road way. They try their best to prevent traffic and parking problems. Obviously there is still going to be traffic on the freeways, but they try their best to cause fewer problems for people in the society. The members that were in the meeting would give suggestions or feedback, and recommendations to other board members. Everyone had their own point of view about the Parking and Transportation issue. The Directive was taking a look at the transportation ecological impact reports, future transportation expansion strategies, and school crossing guard sites. I feel like their thoughts were all good, however in my opinion it is not a good idea to use all those recommendations regarding about the issue. The reason for this is because then it would be too costly. I feel that it would be best to just take the best recommendation and then use that as a strategy for traffic flow. In addition, I like the idea of how they need of school crossing guard places is important, because sometimes children do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper is going to compare and contrast the differences between an episode of Full House and an episode of Modern Family. We are able to spot notable differences and similarities by comparing the characters, plot, and setting for both of these sitcoms. First off we are going to compare the characters. As shown in Modern Family, Manny steals a necklace on accident and does not want to have to own up to it. Manny is very proper and acts more like an adult than a kid. He cares a lot about his appearance and usually does not steal but may have inherited this from his mom, Gloria (Gloria grew up in Columbia and had many bad influences as a kid such as stealing). The Knights of the Golden Circle was a secret organization that promoted and wanted to expand slavery and who played a part in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Montreal was the operations center for high ranking officials of the Knights at the time (Getler). Even with all of this information, a person can only guess what was truly happening the whole time. This is due in part because of the Knights being so secrecy. Even though it is known that Booth did indeed assassinate Lincoln, it is not known why he went through with it. Was it his own anger towards losing the war? Or did the Knights assign him to do it? This may forever stay a mystery. • 13. Avant-Galsch Art Expressionism During the nineteen forties and fifties, the art economy in America exploded after several of the artists that previously lived in Europe flooded into New York because of the immense damage in Europe from the second world war. The most influential Art Critic of the 20th century, Clement Greenburg argued that art with any sort of illusionistic representation or reference was regressive art because it gives an audience the answers right away and lacks authenticity. Any work that had a connection to popular culture, that everyone understood, and was inherently enjoyed was called kitsch . Kistchy art was also a threat to Greenburg and other critics because it could easily be used to control the masses. Any government or authority is able to pluck out any iconography that a society is fond of, and use it to control the them with slanted political messages. Avant Garde art asks questions that people can t answer right away, and Greensburg states that an if audience has to think about the meaning then art is kept alive. In his essay Avant Garde and Kitsch (1939), Greenburg states that painting should be a sensuous experience about paint on canvas, color relationships and texture. Abstract Expressionism would be the first Avant Guarde movement to emerge out of North America. This movement was about gestural paint strokes, and artists realizing physic depth of the unconscious mind. Greensburg was a huge advocate for this movement, but as art bleed into everyday life ... The estrus cycle usually comes once a year, but can come twice although the female dingo can only become pregnant once a year (with the second time only seeming to be pregnant). Male dingoes in most regions are virile throughout the entire year, but usually have a lower sperm production in the summer. During studies on dingoes from the Eastern Highlands and Central Australia living in captivity, no breeding cycle was noticed. The breeding was only regulated by the heat of the female dingoes. A rise in the testosterone was observed in the male dingoes during the breeding season (1 March 30 June), but this was shown to be linked to the heat of the female dingoes and copulation. Male dingoes become sexually mature between the ages of one and three. The exact beginning of breeding depends on age, seasonal conditions, geographic range and social status. Among dingoes living in captivity, the pre estrus can last up to sixty days in the wild. Generally, the only dingoes that can successfully breed in a pack are the alpha male and female, so the other dingoes help to raise the dingo pups. It is through sight that we receive 90% of our information. It is through the use of telescopes aiding the naked eye that we are aware of the heavenly bodies around us. It is through light that the energy from the sun is transferred to us. The sun s energy supports the food chain; plants use it to turn water and CO2 into energy usable by other organisms. Therefore they are capable of being aware of sensations and emotions of feeling pain and suffering. In today s world, factory farming has become popular as they are cheaper ways to produce more output efficiently. The industry strives to maximize output and revenue while minimising cost at the expense of animals. The giant companies that run most of the factory farming have developed caging systems which allow for greater animals to be living in small crammed space for greater profit and output. These animals are deprived of exercise of that their body s energy contributes more towards producing flesh, milk or egg. Sources of these fine particles vary from the emissions from industrial and automobile emissions to the sand particles transported by global winds. 2 Origins of the winter fog The beginning of winter in Northern India, marked by the largest festival known as Diwali, is the end of the rice harvesting season. The residue stubble on the fields at the end of the rice harvesting season doesn t hold any economic value, hence the farmers resort to burning of 70 80 million tonnes of the stubble. Similarly as the temperatures approach freezing temperatures, the general public rely more on bio mass burning for heating, warmth and cooking purposes. Further, the industrial complexes draw more thermally generated electric power and hence leading to an increase of coal emissions. These aerosols from outside the city gets transported and adds into the fine particle sizes from the automobile emissions and road dust generated within the city. And the fine particles serve as sites of condensation, forming misty droplets that doesn t settle. 2A 2020 vision for Delhi Subin Thomas Apart from the sites for condensation, the conditions for the formation of fog are abundant supply of moisture and the increase of temperature with height. • 39. Our Responsibility to Enlightenment Immanuel Kant, a well known philosopher and writer, once said in his essay An Answer to the Question: What is Enlightenment?, Nothing is required for this enlightenment, however, except freedom; and the freedom to question is the least harmful of all, namely, the freedom to use reason publicly in all matters. But on all sides I hear: Do not argue! The officer says, Do not argue, drill! The tax man says, Do not argue, pay! The pastor says, Do not argue, believe! Throughout his essay, and many other works, there is a call to throw off the shackles of blind acceptance and come into a new light of reason and continuous questioning and analysis. This is the basis for modern science; what we cannot explain, we explore, and even that which we are certain of is subject to discussion, debate, and open criticism. In our culture there has been a tacit compliance to allow knowledge and debate fall to the back burners, behind what experts say and what we read in the newspaper or hear on the television. There has been an unspoken agreement with the media, the churches, the government, and even college institutions saying: We don t care to learn or understand. Just tell us what we need to know to survive, and here s what money we have (plus much that we don t) for you to tell us these things. I would respectfully, but vehemently disagree with this status quo. As I will continue to emphasize, reason, debate, and discussion are the paths to knowledge and change that we ... • 43. Comparison (Kite Runner and East of Eden) William Hall once said, People have a lot in common with one another, whether they see that or not. This fact was made evident through reading The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseni and East of Eden by John Steinbeck, two novels about the lives of people thousands of miles apart but take on the similar challenges and try to lead decent and fulfilling lives. There were minute differences between the novels, but for the most part the books were very similar. Through analyzing themes, motifs and symbols within these novels, one cannot help but recognize the cords that unite humankind and defy all boundaries. In Hassan s case, Amir sacrifices him for the blue kite and Baba s love. In Sohrab s case, his sacrifice is the exploitation of an innocent child and is eventually stopped by Amir. However, both sacrifices have life changing consequences for the lambs and everyone involved. Physical characteristics are used within both novels as symbols. In The Kite Runner, Hassan s cleft lip (which he was born with) is his most noticeable features during childhood and is used most to describe him. This deformity is used to symbolize Hassan s status within society as a Hazara, one of the things that separates him and Amir, simply because he cannot afford to have cosmetic surgery. I believe he was born with this defect to show that the prejudice started against Hazaras at birth and could never be stopped despite all efforts (in this case Hassan s cosmetic surgery). Social status, ethnicity and religion played a major part in the novel, which Amir admits himself, In the end, I was a Pashtun and he was a Hazara, I was Sunni and he was Shi a, and nothing was ever going to change that. Nothing (Hosseni 32). These dividing factors eventually begin to distance Amir and Hassan and the community s views about Hazaras began to affect Amir s thinking. Similarities Between Good Night And Good Luck I think that the issues presented in the movie Good Night and Good Luck are important to the history of television because Ed Murrow had the courage to step up and challenge senator of Wisconsin Joseph McCarthy about many of the issues that were going on in the early 1950. Murrow was brave enough to report that people rights were being violated by not providing enough evidence and judging them. In addition, he also reported about the air force officer that was dismissed from the air force just because his dad had ties with communist. Frankenstein Pursuit Of Knowledge Since Mary Shelley s novel Frankenstein is written as a piece of Gothic Fiction, this could create the illusion that the themes of fear, death, and horror point towards a widespread criticism of human nature and life. However this is not the case. In many instances, Shelley s work serves the purpose of comparing and evaluating to what extent her respective protagonists interact with the various temptations that define her novel. This varied assessment should be considered a critique, as it provides a widespread analysis, balancing opposing perspectives that contain varied interpretations of morality. Proving to be a foil character to the end, Walton learns from Victor s mistakes and returns home with his crew before it is to late, providing an alternative perspective for Shelley s evaluation of how the pursuit of knowledge can corrupt the mind. Walton emphasizes how he cannot lead them unwillingly to danger and must return, (219) not as a means to abandon his purpose but to reevaluate it entirely. Shelley wants her reader to question if the pursuit of knowledge exists for the sake of glory or the sake of tranquility, seeing Victor embrace the former while Walton ultimately embraces the latter. Shelly uses Victor s last words as an evaluation and summary of his mistakes, highlighting a shift in his tone where he speaks with a defeatists mentality after having been prideful for so long exclaiming, farewell Walton! Seek happiness in tranquility and avoid ambition...yet another may succeed. (220) Victor s final words are not only directed at Walton, but directed at the reader as well. Shelley wants to emphasize the lack of correlation between tranquility and ambition with the additional example of the Monsters simplistic pursuits in the back of the reader s mind as well. Victors last words yet another may succeed are the most direct indication of a critique because they suggest that it is not the pursuit of knowledge that leads Victor to his deathbed, but instead the way in which he went about attaining it. Ultimately, by learning from Victor, Walton attains powerful knowledge in the sense that he likely saves his own life life comes to the understanding there is more more danger to the unknown than good. • 50. Rhetorical Analysis On Civil Disobedience Civil Disobedience Similar to Douglas, Thoreau writes against the injustice of slavery and the despotism of government. Thoreau starts his essay by stating that Government is best which governs least since government becomes despotic with corruption. He further adds in his essay Government is best which governs not at all with the same sentiment of civil disobedience against the injustices of government. For that reason Thoreau makes the argument that Government not practical because it does not pass the test of morality. Moreover, Thoreau s repudiation of the government s standing army is why the government fails this test of morality. For Thoreau, government is the mode by which people execute their will. Therefore, it is the people who have the right to disobey civil government because it draws its strength from the will of the majority. His criticism extends to the power of the strong, since the power of the strong does not translate to the justice and question the people s resignation of their rights to the legislator. Lastly, Thoreau argues that government lost some of its integrity. For Thoreau, when the tyranny becomes great and unendurable, men have the right to revolution and the right to refuse their allegiance and resist government. Even voting for the right is doing nothing for it according to Thoreau. Even in his criticism of voting, Thoreau expresses that people would vote to abolish slavery once they feel indifferent about it. Furthermore, Thoreau considered the Constitution a form of human law based on moral principle. Therefore, the Constitution should not subject people to relinquish their natural rights, and men should resist civil government in return. Bartelby In agreement with Thoreau s philosophy of civil disobedience, Melville argues about the political consequences for resisting government through his story of Bartelby. This character illustrates the connection between Fredrick Douglas life as a slave to the system that turned him into a machine.
