Research Project On Smoking Tobacco Cigarettes

Research Design Project
Introduction
Smoking tobacco cigarettes has been recognized as the leading cause of lung cancer and other health
related illnesses in the developed world. But there is a new emergence of electronic cigarettes, which
can deliver nicotine without the vast range of carcinogens and toxins found in a regular tobacco
cigarette. Of course, this is a very controversial topic in which creates a dilemma, some people
approve the use of electronic cigarettes as an alternative to tobacco cigarettes. In the other hand there
is people with negative views on the use of an e cigarette as an alternative to a regular tobacco
cigarette. My research will target a specific population, college students and their point of view on the
use of electronic cigarettes. I am interested to find what are college students at CSUSB perceptions of
the health impacts of electronic cigarettes? Are college students more susceptible to use electronic
cigarettes as an alternative to tobacco cigarettes?
Goals
In my research, I want to find out if perception plays a role in decision making. In this case I want to
know if college student perceptions of electronic cigarettes at CSUSB impacts their decision making.
For example, a student who believes e cigarettes are less harmful than tobacco cigarettes is more
likely to use electronic cigarettes. In the other hand, a student who believes e cigarettes are more
harmful

Essay on A Brief History of Hard Rock
The music industry has many different genres, to suit a multitude of listeners; but, the most popular is
rock. Rock has numerous genres within itself, including; heavy metal, hard rock, arena rock, and
many more. The most popular genre would be either heavy metal or hard rock. They are both very
similar in taste with the only differences being what the music is about and the pitch of the music.
Heavy metal is typically about the darker things in life and it will have an overall deeper pitch to it.
While, hard rock is considered good time music and contains a multitude of different pitches.
Hard rock really began in the 1970 s; but, is rooted from the music of the mid 1960 s; such as, garage
rock, blues rock and psychedelic rock. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These bands along with the others that had risen from this time period are still around today and have
millions of fans. The 1980 s had brought with them a new era of hard rock, the glam metal era. During
this period many of the hard rock bands of before had broken up and only a few remained. The
remaining bands changed their style of play even more, toward the heavy metal scene. This in turn
allowed the creation of the punk metal genre and the development of the heavy metal scene. Within
this new era several bands had changed their appearance along with their music. Kiss had removed
their, famous, makeup and moved toward the pop/punk genre. Near the end of this era all of the
surviving artists had either stayed with hard rock or jumped on the new, popular, heavy metal
bandwagon. Within the 2000 s many of the band had come to end and were forced to separate because
most people had fallen for the heavy metal genre and were no longer interested in just heard rock. To
this day a few bands such as AC/DC and Foreigner are still holding sold out concerts and completely
refuse to ever cease, even though the public would never let it happen.
On New Year s Eve 1974, one of the greatest rock bands to have ever existed took the stage for the
first time. This band is known as AC/DC. The band first debuted at Chequers, a nightclub in Sydney,
Australia. AC/DC received their name from what was printed on the outlet of the

The Passionate Shepherd Essay
The Passionate Shepherd and The Nymph s Reply are two very intriguing poems with two different
viewpoints on Love, Nature, Time, and the Materialistic world. In this comparative essay you will
understand how two people love each other unconditionally, but have divergent views on how to love
one another. The Shepherd is in love with the nymph and he believes that if he gives her everything
that she ambitiously desires then she ll come and dwell with him. To me the Shepherd s love is more
based around items and materials in general, his love was more materialistic and idealistic that
actually putting love into it. Yes, he meant well and all but you have to think no woman is going to
stay around long if the only thing that the man does is get her stuff all the time. Now, the Nymph she
loves the Shepherd and wants to go live with him, but she wants him to actually think that instead of
flowers and skirts she wants love and affection. She wants someone that s going to love her and not
hurt her. She wants to feel like what she s getting herself into is going to last, instead of giving her
another heartbreak. But the love is there for both of them, they are both just trying to find some way
for the other one to understand.
The nature (tone) of both poems is having, dissimilar viewpoints also. The Shepherd s tone was more
warm and happy thoughts. He was excited and he focused on his future with the Nymph, he had a
melodious tone, almost like a lullaby. The Nymph s nature was death related, she was more worried
about what if things didn t work out where was that going to leave her and she was more focused on
the past, like she felt that the Shepherd was going to be like another man that she has dealt with. She
viewed nature in a cold winter like view, she feels like everything will inevitably leave. Their natures
were like seasons; the Shepherds nature was like summer and spring where everything is happy and
alive, and the nymph s nature was like winter where everything is cold and dead.
Their view of time pretty much ties in with the way that they had viewed nature, the Shepherd
believed that their love will grow overtime, he thinks that love is a forever thing. He is in a trance of a
world where everything is all

The Visual Characteristics Of Tea And Porcelain In China
The visual sources provided throughout 14.1 14.4 assist in showing what items were used, and why
they were there at the time; while the descriptions give us evidence of how the products were
collected. In 14.1, there s many foreign items to take note of in the visual source provided that is Tea
and Porcelain in China. For example, the Porcelain tea cups, teapot, and saucer are all in the image to
show what materials were used at the time. Though the tea cups were manufactured in China, they
were specifically made for the target audience of European buyers. There is evidence of this shown in
the Chinese patterns on the cups and teapots. The Chinese floral designs, clothing styles, creativity,
and more had a major impact on the desires of the elite upper class in Europe as they had become
widely fascinated with all things Chinese. While the Chinese had realized this liking of their designs
by the European market, they used this to target their buyers by making the teacups with cultured
designs such as the Chinese gardens but also tied in the European style houses to cater to the tastes of
the European consumers. The woman shown in the visual source looks as if she is from the upper
class. Judging by her silk dress and that she is using the Porcelain cups makes it most likely that this is
the case. If the dress was of unimportance, then there could be the possibility that she is involved in
the trade but I would argue that she is in fact in the elite upper class. This take

The Song Of Roland Analysis
Hatred and Wealth
Many readers of The Song of Roland find that the hatred and belittling of Roland and Ganelon is very
evident but is not really explained why they hate each other. It is easily seen they have a relationship
as step father and step son that can be quite full of altercations in most cases yet, Roland is still not
letting friends such as Oliver talk about Ganelon even when they have noticed being set up for death.
The scholar T. Atkinson Jenkins has looked into reasons for the hatred and treason that occur in the
journal Why Did Ganelon Hate Roland? Jenkins provides many options to Ganelon s hatred for
Roland. To me the most illuminating thing is the way hatred mostly likely was built on wealth, and
today many people find the same reasons to be jealous and even hate others.
Throughout the Jenkins essay he uses the Ganelon prosecution which was not read in class, but can be
summarized best as Ganelon revoking being a traitor, and stating, It was Roland who cheated me of
gold and goods; and so I made him suffer and die... (Unknown 1310). His fellow kinsmen asked king
Charlemagne to set Ganelon free and Charlemagne is distraught by their words and calls all the men
traitors (1311). Jenkins finds most every account of Ganelon and Roland participating in name calling,
and crazily in the passage no one seems to pay any attention to the disgrace. Throughout the essay
Jenkins finds quotes such as my poor imitation of a father (120) from using words such as

Is Meritocracy
Is Meritocracy Actually As Fair As It Sounds?
Those who deserve to, succeed, and those who succeed, deserve to. People have to earn everything
they have and, no matter where they start, as long as they work hard they can get anywhere they want
to go. An extreme form of the American Dream . But while it is most definitely all of these things
listed above, is a meritocracy actually as fair as it sounds? In order for a meritocracy to work,
everyone would have to start on a level playing field in terms of race, wealth, and neighborhood to
have the same opportunity to earn their success. But, to get to this point, wealth would have to be
redistributed and races would have to be seen as perfectly equal to each other, which seems difficult in
the current society of the world where stigmas and stereotypes surround certain races and topics.
According to a writer in The Atlantic Monthly, even just the myth of meritocracy, or the relative truth
of it, can have a negative effect on colored children. For example, Dasani is an 11 year old African
American girl living in a decrepit city run shelter for the homeless in New York (Elliot). It is
obviously no place for a child. Dasani, however, is quite smart and is described by her principal as the
kind of girl who could be anything even a Supreme Court justice if only she harnesses her gifts early
enough . But, it is hard for children growing up in the situations Dasani is in, to even find what those
gifts are given the

9 out of the 10 warmest years on record have occurred since 2000.
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is TWICE the size of continental U.S. and is believed to hold almost

Our planet is now in the sixth mass extinction of plants and animals
If every country were to consume as much as the United States alone it would be as if there were a
global population of 72 billion people.
Have I got your attention? Good...scary stuff right?
With Earth day having just passed, I figured now was a good time to help spread the message that
although a special day was marked on your calendar, we need to consider every day Earth Day. We do
not own Earth. Earth is our home and we are merely passing through and it is not our right to trash it
nor exhaust its resources as we please. And while the planet as a whole might seem big, your
individual, everyday decisions can leave a lasting impact.

Smith s Information Services is in the process of implementing a corporate overhead reduction
program. This is due in part to the increasing costs of operating and maintaining an in house data
center, as well as flattened sales and reduced profits. For these reasons Smith s Information Services is
looking to outsource the company s data center to an outside vendor. The increasing overhead costs
include personnel costs to operate and maintain the data center s servers, data center cooling costs, and
electrical utility costs required to run the data center. Reducing these overhead costs, by outsourcing
the data center, will help Smith s Information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There should be no compromise to the company s business practices or access to the company s data.
Besides personnel costs and utility overhead costs, Smith s Information Services would be able to
reduce the company s infrastructure which will also help to maximize profits.
Vendor Considerations
Since Smith s Information Services Company is in the business of processing and analyzing consumer
data, the minimum number of vendors to solicit for outsourcing the data center would be three, with a
maximum of ten. This would provide not only a fair solicitation process, but also would ensure the
company receives the best value for the services provided by the selected vendor. While the goal of
the outsourcing is to reduce the company s soaring overhead costs, simply selecting any cloud
computing company based on cost alone would be foolish. Ensuring there are multiple vendors
solicited for this service would ensure the company s costs are reduced while still maximizing profits.
Given that personnel costs account for the majority of a company s overhead costs, followed closely
by utilities costs, any vendor solicited should cost less than Smith s Information Services is currently
spending on its employees and utilities. Limiting the number of vendors solicited to ten or less would
also ensure a quick evaluation period without the chance of getting mired in minute details between

Hope Revealed In The Secret Garden
The spell was broken. My uncle learned to laugh and I learned to cry. The secret garden is always
open now. If you look the right way, you can see the whole world is a garden. This quote from The
Secret Garden proves the theme there is always hope to be true. In The Secret Garden, Mary, Collin,
Lord Craven and Mrs. Medlock all seem to be in a difficult time, but they learn in the end that there is
hope. It was lonely in India, and my parents didn t want me. claims Mary as she reflects on her early
life. Mary grew up in India where, like she said, she was lonely and unwanted. When Mary thinks her
life couldn t get worse though, tragedy strikes and Mary s parents get killed in an earthquake. The
orphaned Mary is put on a ship heading to England where she is taken in by her uncle, Lord Craven.

The Rise And Fall Of Egyptian Independence
INTRODUCTION
Egypt was formally incorporated into the Roman Empire in 30BC resulting in the loss of Egyptian
independence. Egypt had experienced years of political upheaval owing to sibling rivalry and native
unrest (Wilkinson, 2010), well before Rome was interested in seizing the country. This allowed for the
weakening of the country, which consequentially made it easily conquered. However, Egypt s loss of
independence was ultimately prompted by the relationship between Cleopatra VII and Marc Anthony
therefore making it the immediate catalyst (Jankowski, 2000).
When analyzing to what extent was the relationship between Cleopatra VII and Marc Anthony the
catalyst for the loss of Egyptian independence in 30BC the aim is to extract scholarly research
findings that relate specifically to the research question and thus assist with an examination of the
aforementioned question.
Egypt occupied a crucial position at the eastern end of the Mediterranean and was of utmost
importance to Rome as it acted as a granary for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In The Rise and Fall of Ancient Egypt, Wilkinson delves into the history of Egypt leading up to the

independence; her death would signal the end of pharaonic Egypt.
Wilkinson primarily focuses on the cultural and ethnic divide of Egypt, the Ptolemies harsh policies,
the increasingly severe sibling rivalry and the consequential native revolts as the key factors which led
to the weakening of Ptolemaic Egypt, resulting in its ultimate loss of independence in

The Reality of War in John Knowles A Separate Peace
In his book A Separate Peace John Knowles communicates what war really is. He uses a number of
complex characters in a very complicated plot in order to convey the harsh, sad, cruel, destructive
forces of war. The Characters Gene and Finny are used as opposing forces in a struggle between that
cold reality of war that is World War II in this story and a separate peace. A peace away from the real
war and all of the terrible things that come with it. Through their relationship, that is a struggle on
both sides from the beginning, Knowles establishes the reality of war in all of its essence.

This is what Gene stands for in the story of A Separate Peace. Gene appears to omnisciently
understand the reality of war and how it effects people. Throughout the entire story Gene is used to
bring in the destructive reality of war into the everyday life at Devon High School where there is an
attempt to create, and exist in, a separate peace.
There is however quite an opposition to this reality known by Gene that is headed by Gene s best
friend Finny. Finny has his own reality. Finny displays this reality throughout the whole book just as
Gene acts throughout the whole book. From the perspective of the narrator, Gene, Finny s world is one
where there are a lot of things that Finny does to try and substitute for the real war. This world or
reality that Finny creates and exists in is the separate peace spoken of earlier.
Finny first begins to create this separate peace with games. Because Finny can t face the reality of the

games as a force that is indomitable. The first game Finny invents is The Super Suicide Society of the

Telecommunication Structure And Computer Networking...
As Chief Information Officer (CIO) of a small but growing firm, the organization is outgrowing the
current architectural centralized telecommunication structure along with the computer networks. The
task at hand is to protect the valuable information, but remain flexible enough for employees to
perform their daily duties. The enhancements need to address security aspects such as remote data

organization s telecommunication structure and computer networking security measures, we can
evaluate the strengths and weakness of the centralized and distributed architecture and determine
which will be the best approach for the growing organization. To determine which may be the better

Managing innovation effectively can turn companies around dramatically, allowing companies to be
ahead of its competitors. Introducing new technologies and products will help businesses attract
customers and provide a unique selling point. It can also help cut costs along with raising profits.
Effective innovation allows for new opportunities and may lead companies getting a larger market
share and may even break companies into new markets. Good innovation can also increase employee
motivation and moral creating an efficient working environment.
However having a good idea doesn t mean a company is innovative, making the idea work effectively
so that it brings value to the business is successful innovation. Furthermore innovation can also
propose risks and if not carefully executed innovation may harm the business. New ideas need to be
carefully executed after in depth research, if this is not done correctly a new idea is likely to fail
incurring unnecessary costs and falling profits. It may also result in competitors taking advantage of a
failed idea making a business vulnerable losing its clients as they may begin to look elsewhere.
Ultimately innovation is very important it is a strategy that needs to be implemented with a lot of

Challenges Facing Emerging Infectious Diseases
Introduction
Today, humankind is faced with various obstacles and challenges requiring global responses and
solutions to the spread of emerging infectious diseases (EIDs). EIDs can be defined as infections that
are newly emerging or have existed previously in a particular region and then reemerged at a rapidly
increasing incidence rate (Calistri et al., 2013). Many of the emerging infectious diseases today,
including those caused by transboundary diseases and bioterrorist agents, are zoonotic diseases, which
are diseases that are transmissible from both wild and domestic animals to humans (Kahn, 2006). The

The Sinking of the Titanic in Dusk to Dawn by Dr. Paul J....
The sinking of the luxurious Titanic was a traffic disaster that could have been avoided. Dr. Paul J
Quinn stated in his book Dusk to Dawn The Titanic had actually been designed to carry forty eight
lifeboats but was rejected because it made the deck look cluttered (11). The sinking could have been
avoided if the Titanic crew had not over estimated its strength, and had listened carefully to the
warnings of numerous other ships, and if the crew managed the rescue efforts into the lifeboats
correctly. The Titanic held 2,200 people, yet it only held enough lifeboats for 1,100 people, which
made the rescue efforts were not followed by procedure. The Titanic was originally designed to hold
48 lifeboats but the designer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was no consistency in loading the lifeboats because when they put them on the deck they only
put them on one side of the boat. So a mans life depended on which side of the boat he was on. As the
crewmembers loaded people on the rescue boats the women and childrenwere allowed to go first, but
some of the crew jumped on these lifeboats as they were set off. This tragedy could have been avoided
if the crew had not over estimated the largest ship in the world, built by a work force of 17,000 people.
The designers and crew overlooked many details on the ship knowing that if this ship had ever sunk
that they would not be ready for the rescue. The Titanic was considered unsinkable by just about
everyone, including Paul Smith the captain of the boat. The crew and the builders of this ship had
considered no worries about the Titanic, so they were not fully planned for this destruction (Ballard
11). The radio workers for the Titanic were not even on twenty four hour surveillance. The workers of
the ship thought that they did not need them there because they thought that nothing could go wrong.
There was a #8230;planned preparation rescue effort (The Titanic) that was meant for the

Jennifer Patico
In Consumption and Social Changes in a Post Soviet Middle Class, Jennifer Patico explores the
impact of market consumerism on the social position of public school teachers in post Soviet Russia.
Living in St. Petersburg during the financial crisis of 1989 1990, Patico describes how her informants
struggled to reconcile their perceived moral value as educators with their declining material wealth.
Patico defines this logic of value as how people in a marketizing society interpret and construct the
interrelationships between materiality and morality; between wealth and social standing; and between
resources and respect (Patico, 8). From this definition, Patico investigates how teachers in St.
Petersburg constructed their own conception of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patico cites Anthony Jones who describes the social position of teachers in the 1980s: Although
teachers have fairly low status within the intelligentsia, their membership still conveys high status in
the general occupational structure (Patico, 63). In the Soviet system, occupation determined both
social class and access to resources; however, the sudden introduction of capitalism and market
consumerism shifted this standard: A previous logic of value one that associated professional
achievement with material privileges was being challenged (Patico, 52). Experiencing downward
financial and social status, teachers constructed a new logic of value with an emphasis on morality and
culture. Patico suggests that important characteristics of this emerging logic of value manifested
themselves in consumer choices. She describes her informants: They did not see themselves as naive
victims of marketization...They wished to master all this knowledge and tended to find it important to
be well informed consumers and to maintain dignified, cultured lifestyles (Patico, 61). Given rapid
economic changes which threatened to dilute their social position, teachers grasped onto their status as
knowledgeable and cultured intelligentsia. In her article Tracing Landscapes of the Past in Class
Subjectivity Michele Rivkin Fish describes this process: Groups who aspired to distinction and
recognition could still deploy symbolic markers of prestige. (Rivkin Fish, 89). Defining morals and
culture as such symbolic markers of prestige, a new middle class

Cremation Tools Case Study
Funeral Service Offering:
It is vital for funeral homes to start taking the time and effort to market and advertise cremation
products. With the increase in cremation as the final disposition of a body, it will be to the funeral
homes interest to take the time and money to advertise and offer cremation products to the families
they serve. I truly believe that cremation will take over this industry within the next ten years. I
understand that funeral homes try to veer away from cremation, but if the funeral home takes the time
and effort to advertise cremation products, it will also bring in more money. I am going to talk about
many different products throughout this project, but the one thing I am going to focus on the most is,

We have different options available that range from brass and metal urns, to wood urns, ceramic urns,
glass urns, etc. There are also different sizes available that families can purchase. The cost of Urns and
Keepsakes can range anywhere from $50 $300.
Cremation Caskets: When a family chooses cremation as the type of disposition of their loved one, but
would like a visitation and funeral before the cremation takes place, they typically rent a casket from
the funeral home which eliminates the cost of buying a casket. On average, a funeral home typically
charges $750 $1,000 to rent a casket.
Personalizing Cremation Merchandise: Again, the price of these items will vary depending on what
the family chooses as their product, as well as, how much personalization they choose to do on the
product. The price of these items will start off with the price of the urn or keepsake, but will also be an
upcharge due to the personalized wants put onto the urns or keepsakes. I would say that a family is
looking at prices between $350 and higher.
Pet Memorial Products: Depending on what type of pet memorial product the family chooses will

Seashells In Fahrenheit 451
In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury speculated many things, but one thing that he speculated that came
true was people will wear headphones or seashells instead of talking to each other and that we would
talk through the headphones instead of talking on our phones. He showed this when Mildred and
Montag were home together and Mildred has the seashells in her ears. She had both ears plugged with
the electronic bees that were humming the hour away. She looked up suddenly, saw him, and nodded
(Bradbury, 22). This happens in our society when students are walking in the halls between classes
and most people have their headphones in instead of talking to each other. Then he speculated that
people will have bluetooth technology when Montag and Faber

Loewen The Land of Opportunity
22 January 2013 The effects of social class in America James W. Loewen, essay The Land of

they have on society. Loewen argues that the common American people aren t given equal opportunity

class system because a great deal of history is often left out. James Loewen begins The Land of

poor families will be in a very different situation. (203) Children who grow up in a poor area go to
school where there are 50 kids in one class and individual attention is never given, and children of
high class families will go to schools that have smaller class sizes and individual attention. Even when
a poor child goes to a better schoolteachers will question if the work done is their own and also only
expect hard work from the rich kids. if you are a child of low income parents, the chances are good
that you will receive limited and often careless attention from adults in your high school. Theodore

Options allow investors to hedge against risk. If one expects stock prices to rise, then he/she may like
to invest in stocks. However, buying stocks also entails risk because of price fluctuation. The risk will
be potentially large in case price falls to zero. In order to avoid risk one may like to buy a call option.

My Experience With The National Civil War And Medicine...
Volunteer work is essential for every individual s life and future careers, it produces a path to
connections in the work force, and promotes on the job learning. My practicum work pairing with the
National Civil War and Medicine Museums was an amazing, educational 20 hours. Even though I was
only there for 20 hours, it was a taste of what I will be tackling in my internship next semester there. I
volunteered for four days, and over those days I had a total of four projects. All of the project were
different, the first was looking up collection software and plugins, then I took inventory on a case,
then I recorded notes on a surgeon s diary, and finally I described each medicine in a pannier box. All
of the people I worked with were immensely friendly and insightful, whenever I had questions they
were content to help answer them. The overall experience was tremendously insightful, however, there
was a few bumps in the road here and there. This practicum was a great experience that makes me
eager for my internship in January. My first day at the National Civil War and Medicine museum was
October 14th, it was an awfully dull experience and not what I was expecting. I strolled in as soon the
museum opened, I was met by Joanna Jennings, she explained to me that more than half of the staff
came down with a bug because of a conference they held earlier in the week. Thus, Amelia, who was
originally supposed to be my mentor, was out sick. However, she did type up a detailed

Allegory and Truman Show
Allegory and Truman Show
The Allegory of the Cave has many parallels with The Truman Show. Initially, Truman is trapped in
his own cave ; a film set or fictional island known as Seahaven. Truman s journey or ascension into
the real world and into knowledge is similar to that of Plato s cave dweller. In this paper, I will discuss
these similarities along with the very intent of both of these works whose purpose is for us to question
our own reality.
In his Allegory Plato shows us how a man ascends from the darkness of a cave to the light of the
outside world. In this ascent Plato s man passes through four distinct stages of cognition: from
imagination, to belief, understanding, and finally knowledge.
Imagination

However, his reality is now based on these objects vs. what is truly real. In Truman s second phase he
starts to believe that something is wrong with his world based also on his perception and his common
sense. First, his father Kirk who had been written out of the show years earlier sneaks back onto the
set. This sends Truman into a teenage flashback of his last moments with Lauren a girlfriend that had
tried to tell him the truth before she was written off to Fiji. He also notices that the radio is following
him around and people all around him are acting very strange. At this point he does not know what is
wrong but he knows he is onto something big as he tells his best friend Marlon.
Understanding
Some might disagree at precisely which point Truman sees the light and begins to understand what is
really happening. Like with Plato s cave dweller the process of understanding is a slow one. He will
require to grow accustomed to the sight of the upper world. And first he will see the shadows best,
next the reflections of men and other objects in the water, and then the objects themselves... In the
same way Truman s accent into understanding was a slow process. The scene where he notices that his
wife is crossing her fingers in one of their wedding pictures is that crucial moment. From that point on
we get the feeling that he has gone from assuming there was something wrong to

Americans work an average of 34.4 hours a week, longer than their counterparts in the world s largest

Comparison Of Utopia And Anarchy

reason as to why they re in a feud because the article sounds like Utopia and Anarchy are attacking
each other for no reason. In the quote Meanwhile, Utopian citizens marched against their own capital,

because that event was taken place during the battle between Utopia and Anarchy but their is no
explanation as to why the citizens are marching against their own capital. This would make it hard for
historians to note the reason as to why Utopia and anarchy weren t on good terms and why Utopia s
people were against their own government. A correlation from this passage includes the author saying

Reduction In Force Process
Administrators are very important for all companies as they are assigned sensitive and specific roles
that make certain the company operates at its optimum capacity. At the same time, administrators
ensure all employees perform their expected duties within the company. Among all the roles the
administrators are assigned, conducting a Reduction In Force (RIF) in the company is one of them.
Reduction in the workforce in any company should be handled professionally and amicably whilst
ensuring that the company, the administration, and the employees are all in understanding at that
point. The termination of an employee s employment or contract should only take place when a
company can no longer sustain the entire workforce in addition to not meeting its goals and objectives.
As an administrator, there are several ways that the reduction in force process should be conducted at

creating a logical timeline that states how the RIF will be done. The timeline ensures that all decisions
that are made will have been thoroughly deliberated, the creation of proper documentation, and

A Journey by Bus I Have Made Or, A Journey by Bus
Occasion and planning: I was waiting for an occasion to go on a journey by bus. It at last came in the

Drifters Poem Analysis
Dawe in his poem Drifters presents the inevitable nature of change, particularly change that is
unwanted. Moreover, Dawe manifests the diverse responses individuals have when encountering
change in their lives and the transformative impact of change. These prominent themes are
manipulated through the motif of travelling, flashbacks and symbolism.
Individuals are subjected to change in their spontaneous lives. Immediately the title drifters
foreshadows the spontaneous lifestyle of the personas that will stimulate change. The sarcastic tone

Dawe presents these diverse responses through the juxtaposition of the children s age. The oldest girl
was close to tears and the youngest girl was beaming . Clearly, age differentiation manipulates
individuals responses to change. The fact the youngest girl , who could cope with change easier is
suggested by her minimal encounters with change; she is not used to her transient lifestyle.
Contrastingly, the oldest girl , who is already used to change, is reluctant and afraid to experience
more change that is unwanted.
Change will stimulate growth among individuals. The motif of time in, first of the season ,
demonstrates change will gradually occur with time. Clearly, the family s lives have been transformed
through their transient lifestyle when moving houses. The morbid tone, she won t even ask why they
re leaving this time , shows the family has conformed and transformed from change. Indeed,
progression from an excited to a miserable tone stresses an individual s perceptions on change will
alter throughout life experiences. Further, the kinaesthetic imagery, the loaded ute bumps down the
drive , emphasises the family s transformation throughout change. Here, the metaphorical bumps is
symbolic of the barriers individuals experience with change, in order to grow.
Bruce Dawe s Drifters , presents universal concerns on the inevitability of change. In particular, Dawe
explores the growth

Criminal Law In Canada
The Canadian criminal law involves the prosecution by the government of a person for an act that has
been categorized as a crime. In order to convict, an individual or party they must have demonstrated or
committed a guilty act, whilst having a guilty state of mind or intentions. In other words, the
individual must represent actus reus, an evil act, and must simultaneously possess mens rea, an evil
mind. It is essential that the prosecution prove both of these elements of the offence to the satisfaction
of the judge beyond reasonable doubt, if there is a lack of one of these elements the defendant will be
innocent of the crime, in the eyes of the law.

Some individuals are obliged by the law to take action stop the crime from happening. One of the
exceptions is when the defendant or the individual himself caused or created the peril. In other words,
an individual must stop a crime, which was committed by his negligence. For example, the defendant
threw a cigar butt, who caused a fire, in this case the defendant s negligence caused a peril, if a person
were to die because of the fire he would be criminally responsible. Another exception is when the
defendant has a special relationship with the victim or contractual duties. The bond between the
defendant and the victim can be of many sorts like family, patient and doctor, or company and
employee. In each relationship, individuals have duties towards each other and if they do not fulfill the
duties, which result into death or another crime, and then they can be criminally prosecuted. Lastly,
when an individual or party has undertaken the rescue. This is when a couple assumes a duty of care
towards there vulnerable relative they assume a duty of voluntary responsibility to look after him and
take care of him, failing to do so they may be charged for criminal offence. Even though, individuals

nutrition, hydration and pain relief? Advance decisions to refuse treatment are not as yet widespread in
medical care, but are undoubtedly encountered more frequently (Cowan 2007). The concept of what is
in the best interest of a person may be new or difficult to appreciate and operationalize. There will be
occasions when the decision maker might be faced with strong opposition from other members of the
family whose interests may not be aligned. When multiple clients are involved, the same question
arises: who is the primary client, and therein, whose goals should be identified, clarified, and pursued?
This question is especially poignant when differing goals appear to conflict, as in some cases. There is
a need to know whether it is the client s best interests or her rights and freedoms that ought to be given
greater weight and so which ought to act as a constraint on the other (Herissone Kelly, 2010). And
even when a primary client can be identified, an important consideration is whether the client s desired
decision can be considered when she is mentally ill and who should be socially responsible for such
decision? The holistic approach to the determination of the best interests of a person who lacks
decision making capacity is further enhanced by the requirement that decision makers consult with
others about care and treatment. (Griffith Tengnah, 2008). The Act provides a checklist of common

Summary Of Poem In Just By Ee Cummings
E.E Cummings distinctive style in poetry gives readers the opportunity to interpret his work in various
ways. His satirical approach challenges modern society to go against the grain and construe his work
how they individually view it. His fascination with nature allows him to create an unpredictable yet
vivid storyline for readers. Cummings use of allegory and symbolism in his poem [in Just ] contributes
to his intention of allowing readers to think for themselves.
In the poem, the speaker begins by setting the scene. It is springtime and that is all we know, but with
just that minor detail, readers can envision nice weather, a sunny day, and an overall beautiful scenery.
The speaker continues by adding more details to the scenery. When the world is mud /luscious the
little/lame balloonman... Now we are provided with mud and a balloonman. More often than not,
when there is mud there are either children or animals around. In this case, we learn that it is in fact
children playing around having a splendid time in mud. It seems typical that kids are enjoying the
weather while getting dirty, but then there is a balloonman that is presented. The balloonman seems to
be slightly disabled as he is referred to as the little lame balloonman with the term lame meaning he
has a limp when he walks. It seems odd that there is a person with a limp that is presented in such an
environment that the speaker previously depicted. The balloonman appears to be content with himself
as he is whistling and minding his own business.
The speaker then introduces readers to two boys eddieandbill . The names are not bothered being
separated because the speaker wants to emphasize the close relationship between the two. The lack of
spacing between the names exudes that the boys have a two peas in a pod kind of bond. Throughout
the poem, the speaker constantly reminds us that it is spring and adds more details to the setting. The
repetition of the time of the year being spring grants readers the idea that this is important and a
wonderful season. The world is referred to as puddle wonderful in the middle of the poem and it
appears that the poem is beginning to pick up. The balloon man is an oddball. The spotlight appears to

According to the article, Cynthia Jackson is informed about the Filtration Unit of ART because the
project needs her final approval (By Christopher A. Bartlett amp; Heather Beckham, 2012, The

Lamb To The Slaughter Analysis
Murder is an inherently evil act, no matter what the circumstances, no matter how convincing the

Mary Maloney is a conniving criminal aware of and responsible for her lawless action due to her

make anything. At this point, Mary walked up behind him and without any pause, swung the big
frozen leg of lamb in the air and brought it down hard on the back of his head. After Patrick had fallen
onto the floor, Mary had many questions, but everything became clear to her. She carried the meat into
the kitchen, placed it in a pan, turned the oven on high, shoved it inside (Dahl). Mary then hurries to
the store to buy vegetables for dinner. On her way back she convinced herself to act normal because
nothing was wrong. And if, She happened to find anything unusual, or tragic, or terrible, then naturally
it would be a shock and she d become frantic with grief and horror. That s the way, she told herself.
Do everything right and natural. Keep things absolutely natural and there ll be no need for any acting
at all (Dahl). Mary put a ton of thought into her plan after realizing all the possibilities that would
happen to her if she was caught. Besides Mary Maloney s quick thinking, her actions prove that she
knew what she was doing and are clear evidence that she is guilty. As soon as Patrick had fallen onto

Rhetorical Analysis Of Senator Barack Obama
Rhetorical Analysis Essay Senator Barack Obama, in his address, A More Perfect Union (March 18,
2008), pushes back criticism from politicians and Americans alike, regarding inflammatory comments
made against the country by his former pastor. Obama is calling on his fellow Americans to consider
the role that race has played in dividing the country and in developing a more perfect union. Through
his use of characterization to establish his foundation as a person who has the same struggles as
everyone else and is not just some perfect politician, followed by use of repetition in the middle of his
address, he is establishing his true opinions about his pastor s comment, and a final use of parallelism
towards the end of his address to channel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He does this because it gets his view before the public eye and it corrects any misunderstanding about
whether he believes what his pastor believes. As he answers the questions, he attempts to end the
controversy, hoping it will not be held against him during the election and people will vote for him. In
his address, he also utilizes parallelism to bring the focus back to the foundation of his campaign.
Obama says, We can accept a politics that breeds division and conflict and cynicism. We can tackle
race only as a spectacle as we did in the OJ trial . . . That is one option . . . This time we want to talk
about the crumbling schools that are stealing the future of black children and white children and Asian
children and Hispanic children and Native American children. This time we want to reject cynicism
that tells us that these kids can t learn . . .. (Obama, 3) Here, Obama is listing all the things that
America could do, but the list of problems would just continue on forever, and contrasting them with
what America could do that would actually help it in the long run. He uses repetition to bring the
attention back to what he would tackle as president. He is taking the pastor s negative comments and
addressing them, but instead of focusing on all the bad, Obama shifts the focus to the

The Cask Of Amontillado And The Short Happy Life Of...
Between the stories of The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Poe, and The Short Happy Life of Francis
Macomber by Ernest Hemingway, the authors are able to control these stories through the use of irony,
defined as a contrast or incongruity between expectations for a situation and what is reality. This can
be a difference between the surface meaning of something that is said and the underlying meaning
(http://www.literarydevices.com/irony/). Within these short stories, each author has been able to bring
the reader into the story by giving them the opportunity to endure the thoughts and feelings of
individual characters which include the taste for revenge, and the bitter truth of a marriage. The way
irony is placed into the stories has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is seen during the conversation, As you are engaged, I am on my way to Luchesi. If anyone has a
critical turn, it is he. He will tell me Luchesi cannot tell Amontillado from Sherry. And yet some fools

friend, no; I will not impose upon your good nature. I perceive you have an engagement. Luchesi I

irony becomes very important because what the reader knows, and what Fortunato knows, are two
completely opposite things. The reader or the audience Poe has written to, understands that Montresor
is wanting to give nothing away to his opponent in the revenge that is about to take place, It must be
understood that neither by word nor deed had I given Fortunato cause to doubt my good will. I
continued, as was my wont, to smile

Sophocles Euripides Antigone
In Sophocles Antigone, and in Euripides Medea, the Greek authors take on the topic of justice. Each
playwright addresses the issue of injustices suffered by women and the concept of natural law. In both
tragedies, the female leads seek justice after natural laws had been broken, but they ultimately break
the natural law themselves, resulting in more injustice.
During Medea s first long speech (lines 212 271), she declares that women are stricken with the most
wretched existence on earth. Within this speech, Euripides draws attention to many of the injustices
women underwent in ancient Athens. He refers particularly to their dependence on marriage and their
absence of a public life. A man, when he gets fed up with the people at home, can go elsewhere to ease
his heart he has friends, companions his own age. We must rely on just one single soul, (lines 247
250). Here Medea point out how all women must rely on their husbands, while their husbands are
allowed to go out and a public life with friends.
A way that it is shown that women are viewed as wicked is through the portrayal of Medea being a
wild woman from a non Greek, land of the barbarian (line 261). Rather than being a Greek citizen,
Medea is compared to the other characters in the play, as being more impulsive and primed to do
something immoral. In the play, Medea isn t just pursuing justice in response to Jason and Creon s
crimes, but is also seeking to correct the injustice of the unequal

Taming Of The Shrew Identity
Taming of the Shrew: People Act the Way They are Treated Society has a tendency to believe that the
way one perceives another individual is how they truly are. It is human nature to construct one s
personality based on the way one may speak or behave. However, it is also human nature to accept
these roles created by others. In this modern day society, the majority believe that they are in charge of
their own individuality. Yet, the way others behave towards a particular individual is what shapes one
s identity. This is well demonstrated by William Shakespeare in Taming of the Shrew. In this play,
many characters easily mold into various other personas. Throughout the entire play, Shakespeare
constantly emphasizes how individuals behave differently based on how others look upon them. This
is shown repeatedly through the lives and experiences of Katherina, Bianca and Christopher Sly. To
begin with, Christopher Sly changes his entire identity based on how his peers were behaving towards
him. After being treated differently for a short amount of time, Sly changes his entire persona. When
Sly wakes up confused, as he is surrounded by his servants, whom constantly refer to him as a lord.
Christopher Sly is being tricked into believing he is a lord, when in reality, he is a drunk and a beggar.
He starts to recite his his inner thoughts about his situation and says, Am I a lord, and have such a
lady?/ or do I dream? Or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this play, it was a recurring event for the characters to change and transform into many different
identities. In Shakespearean times, it was not unusual for others to judge different individuals.
However it is still common in this modern day time. It is shown to be hardwired into humans to make
judgements about others which eventually leads us to mold others into the way they are

  • 2. Research Project On Smoking Tobacco Cigarettes Juan Gamez SOC 590 Latino Health Professor Dr. Muñoz Research Design Project Introduction Smoking tobacco cigarettes has been recognized as the leading cause of lung cancer and other health related illnesses in the developed world. But there is a new emergence of electronic cigarettes, which can deliver nicotine without the vast range of carcinogens and toxins found in a regular tobacco cigarette. Of course, this is a very controversial topic in which creates a dilemma, some people approve the use of electronic cigarettes as an alternative to tobacco cigarettes. In the other hand there is people with negative views on the use of an e cigarette as an alternative to a regular tobacco cigarette. My research will target a specific population, college students and their point of view on the use of electronic cigarettes. I am interested to find what are college students at CSUSB perceptions of the health impacts of electronic cigarettes? Are college students more susceptible to use electronic cigarettes as an alternative to tobacco cigarettes? Goals In my research, I want to find out if perception plays a role in decision making. In this case I want to know if college student perceptions of electronic cigarettes at CSUSB impacts their decision making. For example, a student who believes e cigarettes are less harmful than tobacco cigarettes is more likely to use electronic cigarettes. • 3. Essay on A Brief History of Hard Rock The music industry has many different genres, to suit a multitude of listeners; but, the most popular is rock. Rock has numerous genres within itself, including; heavy metal, hard rock, arena rock, and many more. The most popular genre would be either heavy metal or hard rock. They are both very similar in taste with the only differences being what the music is about and the pitch of the music. Heavy metal is typically about the darker things in life and it will have an overall deeper pitch to it. While, hard rock is considered good time music and contains a multitude of different pitches. Hard rock really began in the 1970 s; but, is rooted from the music of the mid 1960 s; such as, garage rock, blues rock and psychedelic rock. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These bands along with the others that had risen from this time period are still around today and have millions of fans. The 1980 s had brought with them a new era of hard rock, the glam metal era. During this period many of the hard rock bands of before had broken up and only a few remained. The remaining bands changed their style of play even more, toward the heavy metal scene. This in turn allowed the creation of the punk metal genre and the development of the heavy metal scene. Within this new era several bands had changed their appearance along with their music. Kiss had removed their, famous, makeup and moved toward the pop/punk genre. Near the end of this era all of the surviving artists had either stayed with hard rock or jumped on the new, popular, heavy metal bandwagon. Within the 2000 s many of the band had come to end and were forced to separate because most people had fallen for the heavy metal genre and were no longer interested in just heard rock. To this day a few bands such as AC/DC and Foreigner are still holding sold out concerts and completely refuse to ever cease, even though the public would never let it happen. On New Year s Eve 1974, one of the greatest rock bands to have ever existed took the stage for the first time. This band is known as AC/DC. • 4. The Passionate Shepherd Essay The Passionate Shepherd and The Nymph s Reply are two very intriguing poems with two different viewpoints on Love, Nature, Time, and the Materialistic world. In this comparative essay you will understand how two people love each other unconditionally, but have divergent views on how to love one another. The Shepherd is in love with the nymph and he believes that if he gives her everything that she ambitiously desires then she ll come and dwell with him. To me the Shepherd s love is more based around items and materials in general, his love was more materialistic and idealistic that actually putting love into it. Yes, he meant well and all but you have to think no woman is going to stay around long if the only thing that the man does is get her stuff all the time. Now, the Nymph she loves the Shepherd and wants to go live with him, but she wants him to actually think that instead of flowers and skirts she wants love and affection. She wants someone that s going to love her and not hurt her. She wants to feel like what she s getting herself into is going to last, instead of giving her another heartbreak. But the love is there for both of them, they are both just trying to find some way for the other one to understand. The nature (tone) of both poems is having, dissimilar viewpoints also. The Shepherd s tone was more warm and happy thoughts. He was excited and he focused on his future with the Nymph, he had a melodious tone, almost like a lullaby. The Nymph s nature was death related, she was more worried about what if things didn t work out where was that going to leave her and she was more focused on the past, like she felt that the Shepherd was going to be like another man that she has dealt with. She viewed nature in a cold winter like view, she feels like everything will inevitably leave. Their natures were like seasons; the Shepherds nature was like summer and spring where everything is happy and alive, and the nymph s nature was like winter where everything is cold and dead. Their view of time pretty much ties in with the way that they had viewed nature, the Shepherd believed that their love will grow overtime, he thinks that love is a forever thing. • 5. The Visual Characteristics Of Tea And Porcelain In China The visual sources provided throughout 14.1 14.4 assist in showing what items were used, and why they were there at the time; while the descriptions give us evidence of how the products were collected. In 14.1, there s many foreign items to take note of in the visual source provided that is Tea and Porcelain in China. For example, the Porcelain tea cups, teapot, and saucer are all in the image to show what materials were used at the time. Though the tea cups were manufactured in China, they were specifically made for the target audience of European buyers. There is evidence of this shown in the Chinese patterns on the cups and teapots. The Chinese floral designs, clothing styles, creativity, and more had a major impact on the desires of the elite upper class in Europe as they had become widely fascinated with all things Chinese. While the Chinese had realized this liking of their designs by the European market, they used this to target their buyers by making the teacups with cultured designs such as the Chinese gardens but also tied in the European style houses to cater to the tastes of the European consumers. The woman shown in the visual source looks as if she is from the upper class. Judging by her silk dress and that she is using the Porcelain cups makes it most likely that this is the case. If the dress was of unimportance, then there could be the possibility that she is involved in the trade but I would argue that she is in fact in the elite upper class. This take ... • 6. The Song Of Roland Analysis Hatred and Wealth Many readers of The Song of Roland find that the hatred and belittling of Roland and Ganelon is very evident but is not really explained why they hate each other. It is easily seen they have a relationship as step father and step son that can be quite full of altercations in most cases yet, Roland is still not letting friends such as Oliver talk about Ganelon even when they have noticed being set up for death. The scholar T. Atkinson Jenkins has looked into reasons for the hatred and treason that occur in the journal Why Did Ganelon Hate Roland? Jenkins provides many options to Ganelon s hatred for Roland. To me the most illuminating thing is the way hatred mostly likely was built on wealth, and today many people find the same reasons to be jealous and even hate others. Throughout the Jenkins essay he uses the Ganelon prosecution which was not read in class, but can be summarized best as Ganelon revoking being a traitor, and stating, It was Roland who cheated me of gold and goods; and so I made him suffer and die... (Unknown 1310). His fellow kinsmen asked king Charlemagne to set Ganelon free and Charlemagne is distraught by their words and calls all the men traitors (1311). Jenkins finds most every account of Ganelon and Roland participating in name calling, and crazily in the passage no one seems to pay any attention to the disgrace. Throughout the essay Jenkins finds quotes such as my poor imitation of a father (120) from using words such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Is Meritocracy Is Meritocracy Actually As Fair As It Sounds? Those who deserve to, succeed, and those who succeed, deserve to. People have to earn everything they have and, no matter where they start, as long as they work hard they can get anywhere they want to go. An extreme form of the American Dream . But while it is most definitely all of these things listed above, is a meritocracy actually as fair as it sounds? In order for a meritocracy to work, everyone would have to start on a level playing field in terms of race, wealth, and neighborhood to have the same opportunity to earn their success. But, to get to this point, wealth would have to be redistributed and races would have to be seen as perfectly equal to each other, which seems difficult in the current society of the world where stigmas and stereotypes surround certain races and topics. According to a writer in The Atlantic Monthly, even just the myth of meritocracy, or the relative truth of it, can have a negative effect on colored children. For example, Dasani is an 11 year old African American girl living in a decrepit city run shelter for the homeless in New York (Elliot). It is obviously no place for a child. Dasani, however, is quite smart and is described by her principal as the kind of girl who could be anything even a Supreme Court justice if only she harnesses her gifts early enough . But, it is hard for children growing up in the situations Dasani is in, to even find what those gifts are given the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There should be no compromise to the company s business practices or access to the company s data. Besides personnel costs and utility overhead costs, Smith s Information Services would be able to reduce the company s infrastructure which will also help to maximize profits. This would provide not only a fair solicitation process, but also would ensure the company receives the best value for the services provided by the selected vendor. While the goal of the outsourcing is to reduce the company s soaring overhead costs, simply selecting any cloud computing company based on cost alone would be foolish. Ensuring there are multiple vendors solicited for this service would ensure the company s costs are reduced while still maximizing profits. Given that personnel costs account for the majority of a company s overhead costs, followed closely by utilities costs, any vendor solicited should cost less than Smith s Information Services is currently spending on its employees and utilities. • 11. The Rise And Fall Of Egyptian Independence INTRODUCTION Egypt was formally incorporated into the Roman Empire in 30BC resulting in the loss of Egyptian independence. Egypt had experienced years of political upheaval owing to sibling rivalry and native unrest (Wilkinson, 2010), well before Rome was interested in seizing the country. This allowed for the weakening of the country, which consequentially made it easily conquered. However, Egypt s loss of independence was ultimately prompted by the relationship between Cleopatra VII and Marc Anthony therefore making it the immediate catalyst (Jankowski, 2000). Dr. Paul J Quinn stated in his book Dusk to Dawn The Titanic had actually been designed to carry forty eight lifeboats but was rejected because it made the deck look cluttered (11). The sinking could have been avoided if the Titanic crew had not over estimated its strength, and had listened carefully to the warnings of numerous other ships, and if the crew managed the rescue efforts into the lifeboats correctly. The Titanic held 2,200 people, yet it only held enough lifeboats for 1,100 people, which made the rescue efforts were not followed by procedure. There was no consistency in loading the lifeboats because when they put them on the deck they only put them on one side of the boat. So a mans life depended on which side of the boat he was on. As the crewmembers loaded people on the rescue boats the women and childrenwere allowed to go first, but some of the crew jumped on these lifeboats as they were set off. This tragedy could have been avoided if the crew had not over estimated the largest ship in the world, built by a work force of 17,000 people. The designers and crew overlooked many details on the ship knowing that if this ship had ever sunk that they would not be ready for the rescue. The Titanic was considered unsinkable by just about everyone, including Paul Smith the captain of the boat. The crew and the builders of this ship had considered no worries about the Titanic, so they were not fully planned for this destruction (Ballard 11). The radio workers for the Titanic were not even on twenty four hour surveillance. The workers of the ship thought that they did not need them there because they thought that nothing could go wrong. There was a #8230;planned preparation rescue effort (The Titanic) that was meant for the crewmembers to go through many times. Jennifer Patico In Consumption and Social Changes in a Post Soviet Middle Class, Jennifer Patico explores the impact of market consumerism on the social position of public school teachers in post Soviet Russia. Living in St. Petersburg during the financial crisis of 1989 1990, Patico describes how her informants struggled to reconcile their perceived moral value as educators with their declining material wealth. Patico defines this logic of value as how people in a marketizing society interpret and construct the interrelationships between materiality and morality; between wealth and social standing; and between resources and respect (Patico, 8). Patico cites Anthony Jones who describes the social position of teachers in the 1980s: Although teachers have fairly low status within the intelligentsia, their membership still conveys high status in the general occupational structure (Patico, 63). In the Soviet system, occupation determined both social class and access to resources; however, the sudden introduction of capitalism and market consumerism shifted this standard: A previous logic of value one that associated professional achievement with material privileges was being challenged (Patico, 52). Experiencing downward financial and social status, teachers constructed a new logic of value with an emphasis on morality and culture. Patico suggests that important characteristics of this emerging logic of value manifested themselves in consumer choices. She describes her informants: They did not see themselves as naive victims of marketization...They wished to master all this knowledge and tended to find it important to be well informed consumers and to maintain dignified, cultured lifestyles (Patico, 61). Given rapid economic changes which threatened to dilute their social position, teachers grasped onto their status as knowledgeable and cultured intelligentsia. In her article Tracing Landscapes of the Past in Class Subjectivity Michele Rivkin Fish describes this process: Groups who aspired to distinction and recognition could still deploy symbolic markers of prestige. Even though I was only there for 20 hours, it was a taste of what I will be tackling in my internship next semester there. I volunteered for four days, and over those days I had a total of four projects. Initially, Truman is trapped in his own cave ; a film set or fictional island known as Seahaven. Truman s journey or ascension into the real world and into knowledge is similar to that of Plato s cave dweller. In this paper, I will discuss these similarities along with the very intent of both of these works whose purpose is for us to question our own reality. In this ascent Plato s man passes through four distinct stages of cognition: from imagination, to belief, understanding, and finally knowledge. Imagination In this ... In Truman s second phase he starts to believe that something is wrong with his world based also on his perception and his common sense. First, his father Kirk who had been written out of the show years earlier sneaks back onto the set. This sends Truman into a teenage flashback of his last moments with Lauren a girlfriend that had tried to tell him the truth before she was written off to Fiji. He also notices that the radio is following him around and people all around him are acting very strange. At this point he does not know what is wrong but he knows he is onto something big as he tells his best friend Marlon. Understanding Some might disagree at precisely which point Truman sees the light and begins to understand what is really happening. Like with Plato s cave dweller the process of understanding is a slow one. He will require to grow accustomed to the sight of the upper world. And first he will see the shadows best, next the reflections of men and other objects in the water, and then the objects themselves... There will be occasions when the decision maker might be faced with strong opposition from other members of the family whose interests may not be aligned. When multiple clients are involved, the same question arises: who is the primary client, and therein, whose goals should be identified, clarified, and pursued? This question is especially poignant when differing goals appear to conflict, as in some cases. There is a need to know whether it is the client s best interests or her rights and freedoms that ought to be given greater weight and so which ought to act as a constraint on the other (Herissone Kelly, 2010). And even when a primary client can be identified, an important consideration is whether the client s desired decision can be considered when she is mentally ill and who should be socially responsible for such decision? The holistic approach to the determination of the best interests of a person who lacks decision making capacity is further enhanced by the requirement that decision makers consult with others about care and treatment. His satirical approach challenges modern society to go against the grain and construe his work how they individually view it. His fascination with nature allows him to create an unpredictable yet vivid storyline for readers. Cummings use of allegory and symbolism in his poem [in Just ] contributes to his intention of allowing readers to think for themselves. In the poem, the speaker begins by setting the scene. It is springtime and that is all we know, but with just that minor detail, readers can envision nice weather, a sunny day, and an overall beautiful scenery. The speaker continues by adding more details to the scenery. When the world is mud /luscious the little/lame balloonman... Now we are provided with mud and a balloonman. More often than not, when there is mud there are either children or animals around. In this case, we learn that it is in fact children playing around having a splendid time in mud. It seems typical that kids are enjoying the weather while getting dirty, but then there is a balloonman that is presented. The balloonman seems to be slightly disabled as he is referred to as the little lame balloonman with the term lame meaning he has a limp when he walks. It seems odd that there is a person with a limp that is presented in such an environment that the speaker previously depicted. The balloonman appears to be content with himself as he is whistling and minding his own business. The speaker then introduces readers to two boys eddieandbill . The names are not bothered being separated because the speaker wants to emphasize the close relationship between the two. The lack of spacing between the names exudes that the boys have a two peas in a pod kind of bond. Throughout the poem, the speaker constantly reminds us that it is spring and adds more details to the setting. The repetition of the time of the year being spring grants readers the idea that this is important and a wonderful season. She recognizes gains and losses of the project, so she assumes that her first task is only to solve the Unit s problem. The problem of the unit is that it fails to make a profitable new product to market in recent years. Although she attempts to protect their team project and supports their efforts, she is wondered if it is time to cut their losses and organize a strategy for the team. She indicates that more discipline for the unit is required to survive the whole team. In my point of view, Jackson s leadership style is mostly participative behavior because she strongly shows her high supportive behavior to determine what must be done in order to the team gets back its credibility and prestige; however, she is not sure how the task needs to be performed. For example, she reacts to the team s Phase 1 proposal with several questions and challenges. In this matter, there are some assumptions for her in regard with phase 1 proposal. On the other ... Television Sci Fi Drama The 100 The television sci fi drama The 100 follows the journey of 100 juvenile offenders who were sent down from space and their struggle to survive on Earth 97 years after a nuclear war wiped out most of the planet. The juveniles were sent down to Earth to see if it was inhabitable again, once their Ark in space, that holds 2,400 from twelve different countries, began running out of air. Upon arriving to Earth, the 100 teens quickly ran into problems with the Grounders, mountain men, reapers, and the city of light that managed to survive the war. The 100 first aired on March 19, 2014 and its director is Jason Rothenberg. Some of the main actors include Eliza Taylor who plays Clarke, Bob Morley who plays Bellamy, Isaiah Washington who plays Jaha and Paige Turco who plays Abby. I chose this show to analyze because there are many different languages spoken throughout the course of its three seasons, it has a strong female lead, and has positive representations on both race and sexuality. The audience s response to the show has typically been positive and they really enjoyed the fact that there are multiple gay couples throughout the show. The audience also enjoys the plot because of its fast pace, but find the director to be racist because he mostly kills off people of color. In addition, variety.com just put out a list of the worst shows for 2016 and included The 100 on it because the director also killed off one of the main gay cast members that the audience became attached to. Mary Maloney is a conniving criminal aware of and responsible for her lawless action due to her being Malice. Mary s quick thinking, her actions after the crime, and her giggling proves to show her being guilty. To begin with, Mary may be malice, but do to her quick thinking she is a loving housewife who cares for her husband. When her husband (Patrick) arrives home from work, Patrick gives Mary information that he is leaving. This shocks Mary, but still manages to round up dinner for them. She grabs the first object she could find which was lamb. On her way back to the kitchen with the big frozen leg of lamb, Patrick, who had his back turned toward Mary said he was going out and that he didn t want her to make anything. At this point, Mary walked up behind him and without any pause, swung the big frozen leg of lamb in the air and brought it down hard on the back of his head. After Patrick had fallen onto the floor, Mary had many questions, but everything became clear to her. She carried the meat into the kitchen, placed it in a pan, turned the oven on high, shoved it inside (Dahl). Mary then hurries to the store to buy vegetables for dinner. On her way back she convinced herself to act normal because nothing was wrong. And if, She happened to find anything unusual, or tragic, or terrible, then naturally it would be a shock and she d become frantic with grief and horror. That s the way, she told herself. Do everything right and natural. Keep things absolutely natural and there ll be no need for any acting at all (Dahl). Mary put a ton of thought into her plan after realizing all the possibilities that would happen to her if she was caught. Besides Mary Maloney s quick thinking, her actions prove that she knew what she was doing and are clear evidence that she is guilty. As soon as Patrick had fallen onto the ground Mary realized she still had the lamb. She still had the murder weapon. Mary disposes of the weapon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through his use of characterization to establish his foundation as a person who has the same struggles as everyone else and is not just some perfect politician, followed by use of repetition in the middle of his address, he is establishing his true opinions about his pastor s comment, and a final use of parallelism towards the end of his address to channel ... • 42. Sophocles Euripides Antigone In Sophocles Antigone, and in Euripides Medea, the Greek authors take on the topic of justice. Each playwright addresses the issue of injustices suffered by women and the concept of natural law. In both tragedies, the female leads seek justice after natural laws had been broken, but they ultimately break the natural law themselves, resulting in more injustice. During Medea s first long speech (lines 212 271), she declares that women are stricken with the most wretched existence on earth. Within this speech, Euripides draws attention to many of the injustices women underwent in ancient Athens. He refers particularly to their dependence on marriage and their absence of a public life. A man, when he gets fed up with the people at home, can go elsewhere to ease his heart he has friends, companions his own age. We must rely on just one single soul, (lines 247 250). Here Medea point out how all women must rely on their husbands, while their husbands are allowed to go out and a public life with friends. A way that it is shown that women are viewed as wicked is through the portrayal of Medea being a wild woman from a non Greek, land of the barbarian (line 261). Rather than being a Greek citizen, Medea is compared to the other characters in the play, as being more impulsive and primed to do something immoral.
