Play Critique
The Doctor in Spite of Himself:
The Doctor in Spite of Himself is a play that I had previously studied in France like many of
MoliГЁre s plays. I thought that it was ironic for me to go see the play for the first time in
theatre in the United States. I was really looking forward to hear how the actors would pronounce
the characters French names, which are rather exotic even for me. I think that because I had
previously studied MoliГЁre s work in class, I was expecting this play to be performed in a much
more traditional style. I was a little disconcerted at first when seeing the actors performing a more
modern version than what I had in mind. I ended up liking what Arne Zaslove has done with the
play. In my opinion, modernizing it a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I was not expecting the costumes to be as eccentric. Even though they were matching the
characters role and personality, I felt like they were too wacky and did not go well with the play.
Throughout the play, I enjoyed the role of music used to set a comic atmosphere and replace the
dialogs during comic scenes (e.g. when they chase each other around). I also thought that they
made a good use of light to indicate the moment of the day the scene was happening or to set the
atmosphere of the scene (e.g. pink colour during the romantic moments). Lastly, I liked the way the
play ended. Even though it was a little messy with everyone running after each other off and on
stage, and this policeman coming out of nowhere, which really surprised me; I couldn t think of a
better way to end the play.
Overall I think the actors and everyone involved in the making of this play did a very good job,
even though I liked the performance of some actors better than others. The fact that this translation
of the play was a more modern version original play made it more fun to watch according to me.
Unfortunately, the fact that I was not able to fully understand the actors dialog throughout the play
made it less entertaining and agreeable for me to

Similarities Between Beowulf And Cain

Kin from Cain In the story Beowulf, many of the themes are derived from the proverbs and
fables practiced in the old testament, while pagan beliefs of monsters, demons, and multiple
gods are added. The most popular of the biblical comparisons is viewed between Grendel, enemy of
Beowulf, and Cain, evil brother of Able. Grendel and his mother are both described as decedents of
Cain. The figure Cain is used as a metaphor during the period to represent the disorder and evil. In
the classic story of Cain and Able, Cain viciously kills his brother in a outbreak of jealously and
anger. For Cain s sin, he was banished from the Garden of Eden by God and left only to ... Show

In the Hebrew Bible, the figure Cain killed his brother and he drunk his blood. A quote read in
Beowulf that shows the dark and evil comparison of Grendel to Cain would be, Hygelac s
kinsman was keenly watching for the first move the monster would make. Nor did the creature
keep him waiting but struck suddenly and started in: he grabbed and mauled a man on his
bench, bit into his bone lappings, bolted down his blood and gorged on him in lumps, leaving
the body utterly lifeless, eaten up, hand and foot. (Angelo Saxon, 736 744). This is a evil action
Grendel typically does after he kills his victims. Grendel was believed to be able to shift his
shape and have magical powers, like Cain and his descendants. A good example would be when
Grendel cast the spell on the warrior s sword so no harm was done to himself. The most major
similarity between Grendel and Cain, is that they both are loners of society. They roam in the
shadows, with no one to fit in with. Both Grendel and Cain are threats to society and the order,
as shown by Grendel with the Danes. In Beowulf, Heorot, is the symbol of peace. This is also
known as the mead hall. That s where the warriors would gather to celebrate and rejoice for the
victory. In the story, when Grendel was first introduced, the audience is told that he is angry and
hated at all the sounds of laughter and fun, because he was hearing the laughing in his head when

Ulcerative Colitis
Introduction: What is Ulcerative Colitis? Just from the name, you can guess that this disease
concerns ulcers. But does this entail anything else? Let us find out in this article about the disease
that still has its causes unverified by the world. Ulcerative Colitis (UC) is a disease/disorder of the
Large intestine. It occurs in the colonand rectum areas only. When food passes through the Large
Intestine, the body s immune system may mistake the food materials, bacteria, etc as foreign
invading agents and sends White blood cells (WBC) to defend the body. This causes chronic
inflammation and ulceration of the large intestine, which causes severe pain and discomfort for the
patient. This is why this disease falls under the category of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and
is also referred to as an autoimmune disease. Furthermore, we still don t... Show more content on

They are considered as auto immune disorders and both of them successfully fall under the
criteria of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) but they work in different areas of the body. Crohn
s disease can occur in any part of the Gastro Intestinal Tract (GIT), while Ulcerative Colitis only
affects the colon and rectum of the large intestine. Again, Crohn s Disease can affect all layers of
the bowel while Ulcerative Colitis, can harm only the linings of the colon. These are the major
differences between them. Conclusion
Though Ulcerative Colitis is not a disease that can cause certain death, but it can lead to the
creation of many other which have high mortality rates. Such as, strokes and colon cancer. We
know that there is bleeding when Ulcerative Colitis occurs. So, during blood clotting, increased
amounts of blood clots also form in the brain causes strokes. Again, the breaking of the mucus
layer in the colon can give rise to cancerous lesions, which develops to colon cancer later

Snow Imagery in “Desert Places” and “Stopping by Woods

Robert Frost (1874 1963). Robert Frost was the most widely admired and highly honoured
American poet of the 20th century (Eiermann). Robert Frost was raised in rural New England
where he grew a fond love for the outdoors and nature (Merriman). His love with nature elements
has probably overwhelmed him so much that it has been reflected upon in many of his poems such
as The Tuft of Flowers, Reluctance, and Birches. One of the nature imageries that have been used
frequently by Robert Frostis the snow imagery. Although the snow imagery appears in many
other poems by Frost we will be dealing with the poems Desert Places and Stopping by Woods on
a Snowy Evening. Even though Desert Places and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy... Show more

It is also because of the mysteriousness of the woods being lovely, dark, and deep (Frost,
Stopping., line 13) that makes the speaker mesmerized. The snow in this poem gave the speaker
calmness by the woods and gives the poem the mood of welcome and mysteriousness whereas in
Desert Places the snow establishes the mood of loneliness and emptiness. Therefore, if the snow
imagery made the mood of the poems different, then evidently the snow imagery will make the
themes of the two poems different as well.
From the different manipulations of the snow imagery on the moods in Desert Places and
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening it made their themes distinctly different from each other.
The snow that surrounded the speaker in Desert Places made the field look like an open, empty,
lonely place. It is from the surroundings that the speaker creates his own loneliness. From this, it is
clear that the speaker s loneliness inside himself/ herself overwhelms them so much that it causes
their outlook to be of only loneliness. So in Desert Places the theme is that the loneliness that is
created from within of the speaker causes him/her to realize or see the loneliness that is inside them
and also the loneliness that surrounds them, which is nature.
In Stopping by Woods on a Snowy

The Most Significant Aspect of Roosevelt s Presidency and New Deal up to 1941
In this essay I am going to be assessing which was the most significant aspect of Franklin Delano
Roosevelt s Presidency, by looking at four different aspects of it, and then applying tests to each
aspect. I will be looking into Roosevelt s Economic Policies, Economic Ideas, Role of the
Presidency and the Electoral performance of the Democratic party and then, applying the following
tests to them: Firstly, the Amount of change, then the Immediate effects, then the Long term
effects, and finally the Effect of one aspect on another.

A change like this had never been made before and Roosevelt faced some antagonistic Democrats
who sided with the Republicans in voting down Roosevelt s new laws. To cope with this dilemma,
he made another change and introduced the Caucus System whereby Democrats would meet
outside Congress and decide on how they would vote. Pro Roosevelt democrats would out vote the
anti, and the decision was binding on all. The second major change made, was that Roosevelt
increased the power of the Executive Branch, altering the balance of the three branches. Roosevelt
took many more branches of Government under White House Control (e.g. the FBI), and massively
increased the size of the White House staff. The third major change was that he became the first
President to notably use the media as a way of communicating and advertising to the nation.
However, he did have one major failure. After announcing his New Deal Laws, The Supreme Court
declared some of them unconstitutional, E.g. the NRA, and had a 6/5 majority win. So Roosevelt
tried to change the rules and proposed to appoint new judges in the Supreme Court whenever a
judge reached 70, instead of when a judge retired. Unfortunately, Congress (including the
Democrats,) rejected this plan as a violation of constitution it would turn the Role of the President
into the role of Dictator. In the end, the only reason the New Deal s could go ahead

Analyzing Some of Anna Akhmatova s Poetry
Unassuming Exuberance
Anna Akhmatova lived from 1889 to 1966 during a dark, rough time in Russia. Everything is
Plundered, I Am Not One of Those Who Left the Land, and Midnight Verses are prime examples
of Akhmatova s symbolic literature. Akhmatova used poetry to help her overcome difficulties in
life; it was a way of expressing and setting her feelings free. All of Anna Akhmatovas poems
contain a common theme that connects to her real life: though life can be rough, it is important to
deal with problems and work towards acceptance. In Midnight Verses, the theme is dark and
tumultuous. This poem is a perfect reflection of Akhmatova s life. She faced many complications in
life, but she had to accept them because she did not want to give up on her home country. Likewise,
Akhmatova s poem has an unwilling acceptance at the end. Midnight Verses also displays her
thoughts in a very creative way. And the signal bells of light rhymes / Then I begin to understand
/ And the simply dictated lines / Lie down in the snow white notebook (Akhmatova 13 16).
Throughout Midnight Verses, Akhmatova uses powerful imagery, making it easy to relate to her
thoughts. Everything is Plundered is another of Akhmatova s poems that continues to illustrate this
theme. In Everything is Plundered, the theme of confusion and contrast in life is present. The
struggles in life are portrayed throughout the poem. This poem reflects humanity s imperfect

This study investigates the effects of high hydrostatic pressure processing (HPP) treatments (200
600 MPa) of eight different lamb cuts on lipid oxidation, fatty acid and free amino acid content. In
general, the eye of loin, flat, heel and tenderloin cuts treated between 400 and 600MPa had higher
oxidation values exceeding 0.5 mg MDA/kg. Saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids content
were lower in HPP treatment of almost all cuts (except rump and heel cuts) at all pressures.
Polyunsaturated fatty acids content was lower in HPP treated inside, knuckle, and tenderloin cuts
at 600 MPa compared to control. Nine essential and 8 non essential amino acids were identified in
the lamb cuts. HPP increased the total free amino acids composition significantly (P

It s Just A Regular Day
It s just another regular day, nothing truly interesting has happened for a little while, which is
pretty disappointing but it gives me time to relax. I am getting a feeling that it s not going to stay
like this. Something will happen, hopefully soon, besides that I m just talking to Honey and Mori
because Hikaru and Kaoru seemed busy, so I decided not to bother them now.
Bored, I put my elbow on the table and put my hand on my cheek to support my head.
Where s Tamaki senpai? He should be here by now. I mean he s the president of the club, he should
be one of the first few people here. I asked and yawned.

skills. The picture is just Haruhi s head on what it seems to be Tamaki s body.
Haru chan, you are so cool! Honey gushed while Haruhi freaks out, making me unconsciously
giggle.
It isn t that bad, Haru chan. It could be wors What. I said, taking the mouse and scrolled down to

comfort. Did I really have to be included? Haruhi was lifting my head upwards as I look away

We did some extra photos too, Hikaru smirked, looking at the computer screen.
There s plenty of girls that are a fan of Haruhi and Sak chan, so we decided to give them what

Inadequate Voter Registration
3.Inadequate Voter Registration
3.1 Multiple Registration
Multiple Registration is a huge challenge for holding a free and fair presidential election in
Afghanistan. Voter registration process in Afghanistan is different as compared to rest of the world.
According to the electoral law of Afghanistan, for presidential elections, the entire country is a
single electoral constituency (Ministry of Justice, 2016, p.29). This means that a voter can register
himself and vote in any voting station across the country. Therefore, voter s lists do not exist in the
voting stations, and the required documents are election cards that open entrance for voters to vote.
According to ICG, 10.6 million Afghans were registered within Afghanistan and 740,000 special
election cards were distributed to Afghan refugees in Pakistan in 2004(ICG, 2009, p. 15).
Later, in 2005, through a registration process, 1.7 million more elections cards added to the
previously available voter cards. Similarly, in 2009, 4.4 million new voter cards were issued for
those who supposedly were not registered before. With these new voter cards, a number of election
cards in circulations reached 17 million. However, the eligible voters in ... Show more content on

Insecurity has negatively affected the whole electoral process, including voter registration, election
campaigns, actual voting process, and counting. Poor security had its effects over registration
process. For example, in the southern and southeastern regions, many registration centers were

Vygotsky (1978) {cited in Maynard amp; Thomas, 2009} believed social interaction with others

social interactions promote higher mental functioning. The area of functioning beyond the child s

Childcare Breakdowns In The Workforce
The labor force of the United States has changed drastically over the last forty years. According
to the Department of Labor, in 2012, 64% of woman with children under the age of six are in the
labor force. While only 34% of mothers were working in 1970 (Gullekson, Griffeth, Vancouver,
Kovner, Cohen, 2014). Furthermore, in 1974, 80% of kids under the age 17 were cared for by a
parent (Morrissey Warne, 2011). Given this dramatic increase of mothers in the workforce, there is
a considerable amount of time missed by the working parent. On average, American working
parents miss nine days of work per year and that number increases to thirteen as the child moves
through daycare and into elementary school. Breakdowns in childcare cost businesses three billion
dollars annually (Shellenback, 2004). Given these staggering numbers the demand for reliable and
affordable childcare has never been bigger. 1.1Lightening University Lightening University is a new

Philip K. Dick And The Minority Report By George Orwell
We can t be confined to one way of thinking, and that terrifies our leaders. It means we can t be
controlled. Veronica Roth.
Various representations of the future are envisioned by many, most of which present a dystopia
rather than a utopia. This is due to the advancements being made by the modern world that raise
concerns about security and especially privacy, leading text makers to predict the worst. The issue
is discussed in the texts The Minority Report by Philip K. Dick (1956), Steven Spielberg s Minority
Report (2002) and George Orwell s 1984 (1949). Through elements such as surveillance,
technology and excessive government control, Philip K. Dick, Steven Spielberg and George
Orwell create a bleak and dystopic vision of the future.
Through falsely accusing innocent people and heavy control, a near dystopic future is
exemplified in the novella, The Minority Report (TMR) by Philip K. Dick. The story is based
on pre crime which is foreseen by three precognitives which result in a supposedly crime free
society. However, it only becomes an illusion of peace by essentially taking in individuals who
have broken no law, (pg. 72.) therefore there s a moral dilemma for the accused are being
imprisoned based on the majority report. The report is an accumulation of the two most similar
reports from the three precogs as mentioned by Dick, the existence of a majority logically implies a
corresponding minority (pg. 84). This means that the chance of the third

Utopia And Leviathan
Thomas More sUtopia and Thomas Hobbes Leviathan each offer alternatives to the worlds in
which they lived.. More s society, viewed through the character Hythloday, is seemingly based
on man s nature in society being generally good, and the faults of man emanate from how society
itself is set up. Hobbes takes the opposite view of human nature, where man s will to survive
makes him unable to act out of goodness and it is man who is responsible for society s ills.
Both Leviathan and Utopia contain faults in logic that work to undermine the very possibility for
these new social structures. In the following I will show how each of their views for a new society
give insight into what their beliefs of human nature are, while showing some ... Show more content

Close inspection of these rules give insight into how More may have really viewed human nature.
In the following excerpts we find evidence that More may have found man untrustworthy and in
need of social control, or at the very least spiritual control.
The vast majority of Utopians В¦ believe in a single power, unknown, eternal, infinite,
inexplicable, far beyond the grasp of the human mind, and diffused throughout the universe, not
physically but in influence. Him they call father, and to him alone they attribute the origin,
increase, progress, change, and end of all visible things; they do not offer divine honors to any
other. В¦ (Utopus) left the whole matter (choosing a religion) open, allowing each person to
choose what he would believe. The only exception was a positive and strict law against anyone
who would sink so far below the dignity of human nature as to think that the soul perishes with
the body, or that the universe is ruled by blind chance, not divine providence. В¦ Therefore a man
who holds such views is offered no honors, entrusted with no offices, and given no public
responsibility, he is universally regarded as a low and sordid fellow пїЅ (pp.516 518 This excerpt

that art to make a statement about a specifically Russian predicament. So often the theme was

Much of GULAG was based on hundreds of letters and memoirs that former prisoners mailed to
Solzhenitsyn after One Day was published. (Remnick, 119)
When reading One Day it is overwhelming to comprehend and imagine this single dawn to dusk
description, with the hindsight to understand that millions of multitudes of men and women
suffered through such an evil scheme of servitude of cruelty.
One Day was the first book of its kind to be printed in Russia. Miraculously, it was not only
printed, but subsequently soldto the citizenry, who were actually allowed to read it. This unheard
of event occurred during a very delicate period of time known as the Khrushchev thaw , when open
condemnation of the cult of personality began to become commonplace, even expected. These brief
years of relief enjoyed a momentary artistic flowering, and poets like Yevgeny Yevtushenko and
Anderi Voznezensky, among others, began to emerge. During Khrushchev s cultural thaw, plays or
novels such as Solzhenitsyn s One Day in the Life of Ivan Denizovich were the primary signs of
new freedom. (Smith, 110) The response to this little book was immense, and an interesting

What Is The Dramatic Irony In The Black Cat By Edgar Allan...
The Black Cat is an old short story written by Edgar Allan Poe an American Writer. It is a horror
fiction story which demonstrate the fascinating changes that the human mind has during the
abuse of alcohol. The protagonist is physiological corrupter by the abuse of alcohol and his mind
play games with itself. He changes his personality as the story progresses and the way that he
treats others around him. Everyone is affected by his behavior even his lovely cat. The cat
becomes the object of his hate and in some way it is the first thing that he blames about his
irrational acts. In the short story The Black Cat , Edgar Allan Poe, uses a varied forms of Irony,
dramatic Irony, verbal Irony, and situation irony to produce a transformation of love threw hate
along of the story.
In dramatic Irony, occurs when the readers are aware about what is going to happen, but the
characters do not have any clue about what is going on. In The Black Cat , the story begins with
the main character sentenced to death, but with one story to tell. The Irony here is that he was
not aware about how his life was going to change. In the beginning he is describing how happy
was his childhood and how much he loved his pets. In the second paragraph of the story the
main character describes his personality as a child in the first sentence From my infancy I was
noted for the docility and humanity of my disposition. My tenderness of heart was even so
conspicuous as to make me the jest of my companions (3). He was a lovely child with an
uncertain future. Another irony finds it on the story is how he describes the fidelity and love that
the man can own There is something in the unselfish and self sacrificing love of a brute, which
goes directly to the heart of him who has had frequent occasion to test the paltry friendship and
gossamer fidelity of mere Man (3 4). When the story is progressing he is transforming to a violent
man without any act of compassion towards his faithful pet, which actually represented
faithfulness. He is represented himself as a child with a lovely personality, but he is not aware that
the lovely child was going to transform in an alcoholic man with a violent personality willing to
kill mercilessly.

The Importance Of The Indian Mutiny
The purpose of this lecture was to discuss the importance of the Indian Mutiny which began on
May 10th, 1857. However, before the rebellion began, the British had colonized India, where they
would use citizens as soldiers, and tap into their revenue. In addition, the British changed the ruling
system, where current rulers were disinherited. Then in Meerut India, the rebellion against the
British began. This began when the Meerut troops refused to set down their muskets at an army
base. The troops then proceeded to shoot at their commanding officers, where they were forced to
flee to Delhi. This act represented racial intolerance, white versus non white, and was viewed as a
race war. Furthermore, civilians joined the up rising, and joined the... Show more content on

However, this article elaborates more those ideas than the lecture. The article takes us through the
events that occurred thorough the Indian Mutiny, while using pictures to emphasize, and make
their points clearer. Additionally, the article describes how the British viewed the mutineers, as
murdering shoe keepers . However, the article also goes into detail how the British were not the
only ones massacred. As stated in the article, the casualties among the Indian Christian were far
more numerous. Furthermore, the article also suggests that the paper in the Indian National
archive were not explored properly. If explored properly it would add new insight into the Indian
Mutiny. Equally important, the article Nana Sahib at Cawnpore: 1857 by Christopher Hibbert,
describes the attack on Cawnpore in 1857. The article describes the attack on the British where
most men were killed, and the women and children were taken as hostages. Then Nana Sahib
ordered them to be killed, and thrown in a well. This is when the British acted in vengeance,
stuffing pork and beef down the Nana Sahib s Collector Sprisoner, as well as threatening to kill

Vignette In The House On Mango Street
Growing up as a child could be looked at as a bumpy road. Average kid has everything they need;
food, shelter, and of course water. Whether it is the nicest of places, or the greatest neighborhood,
with the greatest food, now that s a different story. Here, The House on Mango Street takes short
stories called vignettes, all of which are told from the perspective of a thirteen year old girl named
Esperanza. As the story goes on, I notice how naГЇve Esperanza is. She definitely does not
understand the concepts going on around her. But as she gets older, I believe she will realize that
she wants better for herself, and whatever her future may bring. The very first vignette, Esperanza
is explaining the house she is moving into and also the house she use to live in. She described her
old house as, Small, with red tight steps, and windows that are so small you d think they... Show

that was not my fault (Cisneros 8). In my opinion, I think she wants to be her sisters friend, not
just someone she has to look after. Esperanza even says, Someday I will have a best friend. One I
can share all my secrets to (Cisneros 9). Throughout this vignette I got a sense that there was a
reputation that the guys wanted to keep. They did not want to be seen with their sisters, and the
only time they spoke was when they were home. Even then, I got the sense that the brothers
picked on Esperanza and Nenny. I know that Esperanza is not allowed to friends with her sister
because she is younger. I could be because it looks lame. As if Oh hey, her best friend is her little

Children s Lit Task 1
Part A.
In the past five years, children s literature has had many common themes. Bullying has been a
popular subject of interest at all levels of reading. This trend reflects a rising concern about
cyberbullying and the sometimes dramatic effects it can have on a child s life. Writers and parents
are making an effort to show children that what they do to their peers has real consequences and to
be mindful with their words and actions. Another popular subject is dystopian futures. This interest
is in part due to the success of The Hunger Games trilogy, children have become interested in the
future of their planet.
Another interesting trend in children s literature is mixing of genres, such as mixing cartoons and

Taking a Look at Ornithology
Ornithology Ornithology is a branch of zoology that deals with the study of birds, and
ornithologist studies the variety of things on birds such as bird anatomy, behavior, biology,
evolution, ecology and physiology. For an ornithologist, there is no standard or even an average
starting salary because few people are hired strictly as ornithologist. Instead, they are hired as
teachers, professors, wildlife biologists, environmental scientists, environmental educators,
ecologists, tour leaders, and etc. The salary ranges applies to those fields and the organization that
is hiring. It also depends on the level of education that they have. They could make $5,000 a year
or $150,000 a year. In the field of ornithology, it should be narrow by their typical day,
requirements of educational level, the three positive and negative aspects of ornithology and
what makes ornithology so interesting. A normal day depends on them and what job they have.
They can teach and talk to the students or colleagues, go to meetings, read books and articles,
answer e mails, updating their website, and go out in the field to collect research data on birds.
Also, they can write a grant proposal in order to generate funding for a project. Basically, a
typical day for an ornithologist is just a bunch of random things, as long as it relates to birds and
saving them. In order for a student to become an ornithologist, it is an obvious statement that you
must have a great passion for birds or else this

The Hollow Hope By Gerald Rosenberg
The Hollow Hope by Gerald Rosenberg is based on one research question. That question is: Can the
Court bring about significant social change? In examining this question Rosenberg presents two
different views of the Court. The dynamic court view believes that the court is an excellent catalyst
for social change while the constrained court view believe that there are constraints in place that
prevent the court from making significant change. The constrained court believes that it is only
when these constraints are lifted and certain conditions met that the Court can have an effect on
social change. To explore his question Rosenberg looks into different court cases in which believers
of the dynamic court view think had the most impact on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One thing that he does not make so clear is what he constitutes as significant social change, and
how he will measure what that exactly.
In reading the book Rosenberg does seem to give a hint of bias toward the constrained court as
being more correct, as it appears he spends less of his time arguing for the dynamic court view.
However it may not be bias that is perceived, but just that through his investigation he has found
that the constrained court view is a more accurate representation. There are some parts in the book
where Rosenberg almost asks too much of the Court for the dynamic court view, which makes it
appear that he is setting up the dynamic court argument to fail. As Feeley (1992) mentions in his
review of the first edition of The Hollow Hope, Rosenberg makes his arguments as a lawyer
would, which by definition sets up his opponent to fail and as his conclusion as the most obvious
choice. With this in mind one could conclude that Rosenberg sets up the dynamic court view to fail
on purpose to make his point more clear. There are some points throughout the book where there is
a correlation for the dynamic court that it means there is nothing there, whereas when there is a
correlation for the constrained court he uses that as a point to prove his conclusions.
The sources that Rosenberg used are dependable sources, and he presents the information that the
sources provide in a

Jacob Portman s grandpa was probably the most interesting person in his life. Grandpa Portman
would always regale Jacob with stories about his life in an orphanage. However, that wasn t the
most interesting part. This orphanage was home to many peculiar children. Some of these
children could lift massive boulders, while others could fly, make instant fireballs, or were even
invisible. Grandpa Portman stated that with the help of all these peculiar children, they would
defeat monsters. For a six year old, these stories sounded pretty believable, especially because
Grandpa Portman had photos. However, as he grew older, Jacob stopped believing these far
fetched tales. The photos were obviously some kind of photoshop and according to Jacob s dad,
the monsters were people that took all of his family s lives. One day Grandpa Portman starts
acting all weird. He thinks that the monsters are coming for him again and all he has left to
defend himself against the monsters is a box cutter. As Jacob visits to check up on him, his
grandpa was not lying. He was standing face to face with a monster that killed Grandpa
Portman. As the monster disappears, Grandpa Portman is left dying only before muttering his
last words. Nobody believes Jacob when he says that he saw a monster, of course. Jacob then
decides to go to Cairnholm, a small island where Grandpa Portman s orphanage is located. Jacob

Kandinsky Vs Klee
Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee are two of the famous artists of abstract art. They both had
started their painting life since 1900, and they had had friendship during their lifetime. Which is
easier to compare their artworks by year and find the similarities of how they were influent by
each other. Such as Kandinsky s Improvisation and Klee s Colour shape in 1914, Kandinsky s
Black Increasing and Klee s Black Knight in 1927. Thus, the four paintingwould be the artworks to
compare. Two artists have the same perspective toward art. First, Kandinsky not only sees
colours as different moods but also sees them as the sounds of music. He also assigned
instrument tones to go with each colour: Red sounded like a trumpet; Green sounded like a
middle position violin; Light Blue sounded like flute; Dark Blue sounded like a cello, Yellow
sounded like a fanfare of trumpets; and White sounded like the pause in a harmonious melody.
(Kandinsky) It is a special perspective to see or hear art. In the same way, Klee was a musician
which found the resemblance between art and music.

Part A The results were conclusive and differed slightly from previously expectations with the
plants germinated with an absence of light growing on average 17.975 mm per day compared to
the plants with exposure to light growing 6.965 mm less at an average of 11.01 mm per day.
This trend was evident throughout the duration of the experiment however as the investigation
continued it was clear the growth of both plant sets was beginning to decrease and slow. As
shown in graph 2.0 and table 1.0 on day 15 the plants grown in the dark had reached a height of
175.9 mm and by day 17 they had only grown 1.475 mm and reached a height of 177.375 mm,
compared to the growth between day 8 and 9 when the plants grew by 44.375 mm, a 48%
increase, nearly doubling its height of 47.85 mm on day 8. The heights of both sets altered from

Essay The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental...
Agoraphobia is derived from the Greek words agora, meaning gathering place or assembly
which was used to describe a city s marketplace, and phobia meaning fear. It literally means fear
of the marketplace. Carl Westphal first coined the term agoraphobia in 1871 to describe people
who were afraid of large open spaces. Since then, the definition of agoraphobia has been modified
and continues to develop as more research is done. (Barlow, 2002, p. 328) The Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM 5; American Psychiatric Association [APA],
2013) defines the essential trait of agoraphobia as marked, or intense, fearor anxietytriggered by the

(APA, 2013, p. 218)
The fear or anxiety they have is out of proportion to the actual danger they face. The fear might
occur in anticipation or in the actual event or presence of the situation that they feared. This might
and often does take the form of a panic attack or a limited symptom attack, which is an attack that
is not as severe as a panic attack. This fear happens nearly every time the person is in this
situation not just every once in a while. It causes significant distress and changes behavior so
that it may impair the person socially, occupationally, or in other significant areas of their life.
For it to be considered agoraphobia if it is combined with another medical condition the fear,
anxiety and avoidance must show signs of being excessive and out of proportion to their actual
situation. (APA, 2013, pg 218) The Agoraphobia Workbook s definition of agoraphobia sums these
characteristics as a maladaptive fear of and desire to avoid situations in which the individual
believes a symptom attack may occur and result in incapacitation, humiliation, or some other
catastrophe. (Pollard White, 2003, p. 22) This definition points out a key part of agoraphobia
which is the maladaptive fear. Beyond having fear of the previously mentioned situations, many
people adjust to this fear by becoming completely homebound. It is also common for them to have
depressive symptoms and abuse alcohol and sedative

Mental Disabilities In Child s Play By Alice Munro
In today s times ADHD, ADD, and Down s are not as big of a deal as they use to be. In Child s

In this essay I will be commenting on how Alice Munro used her story Child s Play to show the
relationship between people who have mental disabilities and the discrimination they faced. This
story shows how back in the fifties people with mental disabilities were treated like they are less

The Acts of the Apostles and Religious Intolerance Essay
The Acts of the Apostles and Religious Intolerance The Acts of the Apostles is the geographical and
political story of the development of the Christian Church under the impulse of the Holy Spirit.
Although many of us may think that the issues of sectarianism are new, the Acts of the Apostles
shows clearly religious intolerance over two thousand years ago. In this respect, it is comparable
and informative for moral life in the twenty first century. One of the most influential characters in
Acts, who is closely linked to the issues of sectarianism, is Peter. However, before I look at his role,

It is obvious that these actions are the most potent expressions of the system, but alongside this
type of bold action is an array of smaller, perhaps everyday or semi conscious attitudes, actions and
beliefs, which contribute subtly to keeping the sectarianism system in place.
Drinking in Roman Catholic bars can seriously damage your health watch where you drink,
because I do (A discussion document, cards can be bought on the Shankill road)
Sectarianism always involves religion. The involvement may be an historic one that has long been
forgotten, but it is this origin that distinguishes it from purely political discrimination. It is
impossible to argue that Peter was not involved in the issue of sectarianism but what was his exact
role? What persecution did he himself suffer, or even worse, what discrimination did he himself
perpetrate? And most importantly, what sectarianism did Peter help the Church overcome? Is he an
example which we can portray with the aspects of sectarianism in the modern world today?
Peter is an example of somebody we can learn from today, he shows the human abilities that we our
self depict, for example we all have beliefs as well as Peter did and in some instances we can act
upon these in an unethical way, Peter can be used as an example of someone we can look up to

attend voluntarily, and I thought most of the attendees would be from families with foster or
kinship care. I was wrong, as most of the attendees were from group homes around Ames and they
were there as part of their recovery process. This shocked me a little but in just the short amount of
time I spent with them I grew to really like them. I think that often youth in group homes are
stigmatized and thought of as bad kids, when in reality most of them just haven t had the support
they need or grew up in poor environments that lead them to where they are.

Peasants During The Han Dynasty
Past Peasants were the lowest class of the Han dynasty. About 90% (160 million) of people were
peasants. During the Shang and Zhou dynasties, peasants didn t own their lands. Throughout the
Han Dynasty, most peasants owned a small area of land and gave a portion of their crops to the
government to pay as tax. The peasants survival depended on the quality of the crops while they
also faced floods, earthquakes, and famine. During the first half of the Han dynasty, there were 20
periods of droughts, floods, and famines. Peasants faced extreme danger to cope with the natural
disasters and ensure the survival of their children. During famine, parents had to kill their babies
that they couldn t feed. They sometimes sold their children into slavery

Night, by Eliezer Wiesel Essay
Throughout a person s life, he or she expects to have a significant person who will always be there
to help out with any given task. The first thought in one s mind reveals an apparent image of a
mother or father, caring for their child. Parents remain as constant representations of how one
should care for another; they exhibit protective instincts their children become accustom to, and one
would not know how to carry on without their guidance. Presented through the topics of assets,
losses, and differing questions in his autobiography Night, Eliezer Wiesel displays the idea of how
changing circumstances can cause one to contemplate everything they once held to be true and
finite. Every person needs an anchor, someone... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another remarkable example of the idea that one s family can be his or her anchor shows up
when Elie runs into his relative Stein. Elie recalls Stein saying, The only thing that keeps me
alive [...] is to know that Reizel and the little ones are still alive. Were it not for them, I would
give up (Wiesel 45). A clear statement of how much Stein s family means to him, Elie lies to
him, saying that they all continue to be safe. The thought of his family out of harm s way brings
peace to Stein s troubled mind. The instance with Stein s peace of mind appears identical to the
speaker in Ballad of Birmingham when The mother smiled to know that her child Was in the
sacred place (Randall 22 23). Knowing of her child s whereabouts eases the mother s mind. The
mother expresses concern in previous lines of Randall s poem, stating premonitions such as the
dogs are fierce and wild, And clubs and hoses, guns and jails (6 7) and I fear those guns will fire
(14). On an opposing side, Rabbi Eliahu s son abandons his father in fear that his chances of
surviving will be altered for the worse. Despite this unsightly fact, Rabbi Eliahu asks, Perhaps
someone here has seen my son? (Wiesel 90). He hopes he may find his son, who he holds dear as
his anchor. Inevitably, loss remains an ever present reminder of how

Crime Affects Crime
My research question is How does committing crimes affect a person s physical health and do
different crimes affect physical health more or less? It is important to the criminal justice system to
determine how much crime actually affects the health of an offender. Assuming that committing
crimes causes stress to the individual, stress can show negative side effects on the human body that
can be physical or mental. By identifying any health problems created by committing crimes, one
could potentially deter potential criminals. In the criminal justicesystem in the United States, there
currently is not much deterrence for criminals in regards to punishment. There is the potential to
use the risk of them affecting their health as a deterrent. It is also important to look at how different
crimes affect the physical health of an offender. For instance, a small crimesuch as shoplifting may
not cause as much stress as robbery. Looking into the potential for higher stress levels in certain
crimes could lead to offenders avoiding those crimes. If criminals stop committing the higher stress
crimes, it can help law enforcement and citizens focus on stopping the lesser crimes.
Although I could not find an article or experiment related to crime causing stress, I found the
opposite. Strain theory attempts to explain that stress causes crime. Agnew s general strain theory
is considered to be one of the most accurate theories in explaining crime. He argued that the stresses

Massachusetts Bay Colonies Dbq
In the spring of 1630, John Winthrop and his group of Puritan immigrants arrived on the shores of
the Massachusetts Bay. There they founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony, an exclusively Puritan
settlement based on the strict religious ideas of the colonists. As the colony expanded from the
1630s to the 1660s, these strict Puritanideas and values influenced its economic development by
putting the focus of the colony on the religion instead of on the creation of a settlement for
monetary or expansive profit, its political development, by and its social development, by
regulating the way other religions, women, and education were treated. While some of the other

Their government was to allow no religious freedom, much like that of England. Though the
Puritan colonists had left England to flee religious persecution, they continued with the
persecution of other religions in their own colony. Nathaniel Ward states, He that is willing to
tolerate any religion, or discrepant way of religion, besides his own, unless it be in matters
merely indifferent, either doubts of his own or is not sincere in it... (Doc F). His words, and the
beliefs of the colonists, show that only the Puritan religion was socially acceptable. This resulted
in a split between many of the Puritan colonists. When Roger Williams, a prominent Puritan
preacher spoke out about religious freedom, he was exiled from the colony. Anne Hutchinson,
whose strong religious convictions were also at odds with Puritan theology, was banished from
the colony, along with her family and group of followers, and excommunicated from the church.
Hutchinson s treatment was even harsher than Williams s, however, because she was a woman,
and the Puritan s religious beliefs also governed the treatment of women in the colony. John
Cotton, who wrote on the subject of God s power denoting the civil law, said, it is good for the
wife to acknowledge all power and authority to the husband... (Doc G). Married women were

Atlanta Exposition Address
On September 18, 1895, a profound African American leader, activist and advocator for racial
equality, Booker T. Washington spoke before an integrated mass at the Cotton States and
International Exposition in Atlanta, Georgia. Although the organizers of the exposition worried
that the demeanor of the public would not be prepared for such a progressive move outside of
their innate social norm, they decided that inviting a black speaker would impress Northern visitors
with the evidence of racial progress in the South. The Atlanta Compromise Address , as it came to
be called, covered concerns of uppity blacks by claiming that the African Americanracewould

We still have too many of those who believe it is of more value to get while they can at any means
necessary than starting and building a successful career and business.
While entertainment, sports, and other forms of making do each have their value to those who find
it suitable, these are not foundational to the sure success of a people. These, if sought prematurely
and without the proper foundation will not provide for lasting success, and may in fact cause
failure to achieve the lasting success of a society.
As I took a step and researched more on the late leader it is clear that you must understand one
thing in order to keep all of Booker T. Washington s writings and ideas in proper perspective. He
loved the pure value of work. He worked tirelessly himself and taught that a job well done was
reward enough in itself. But he also understood and taught that:
The man who has learned to do something better than anyone else, has learned to do a common

Henry VIII s Reformation Essay
Henry VIII s Reformation
In 1529 Henry VIII started to reform the Catholic Church in England, however there are different
opinions as to why he began these controversial changes. The orthodox view concurs that there
was a vast anti clerical feeling in 16th century England; the corrupt church was unpopular with
the masses. However the revisionist view claims that the reformation was actually due to politics.
Henry needed a male heir and therefore needed a divorce. The needs and wants of the masses
were not taken into consideration. In this essay I am going to look at England pre reformation and
reach my own opinion of whether or not England was actually in need of a reformation in 1529. ...

But were the clergy really that bad, and if they were would people not have done anything about
it? In the diocese of Lincoln, which had 1,006 individual parishes, they only had 25 complaints of
sexual misconduct for the whole year. This is a low figure, which proves that the deficiencies of the
clergy have either been fiercely exaggerated or that people didn t have a problem with the incidents
and therefore didn t report them. The interesting fact is that after the reformation, the number of
complaints rose. Surely this suggests that it was the reformation that caused the anti clericalism and
not the other way round.
Many laypeople did see the clergy, as greedy and excessive, people were growing discontented
with hypocritical clergy such as Wolsey. Wolsey was 10x richer than his nearest rival even
though he was the son of a butcher; many people found this deceitful, after all when ordained he
would have taken a pledge of poverty. He would also have taken a pledge of chastity, yet he had a
mistress. Despite his great power within the church, he actually did very little for the religion. He
became a symbol of everything that was wrong with the church and we know that many influential
people didn t like him, such as Thomas Howard. However Wolsey was only one man within the

You will meet many heroes in your lifetime and you probably can t tell by looking at them. A

Most of the population believes that heroes have to wear a big red cape or fly to be a hero, but

to be recognized in text books to be heros. Heroes are everyday people who have sacrificed for

The Trenches Of Birdsong ( 1993 )
Examine the ways Faulks presents superstition among characters in the trenches in Birdsong (1993).
Superstition as an excessively credulous belief in and reverence for the supernatural is often
associated with perilous endeavours, and a psychological need to latch on to a mechanism to allow
hope for the preservation of the fragile human condition. This systematic and illogical belief in the
supernatural is extensively prevalent throughout Faulks novel, during the linear storyline of
Stephen and other orbital characters it is referenced through not only irrational fears but
additionally rituals of extispicy.
Faulks expedites the process of firm belief among the characters during life on the front line, which

This thus deepens the contrast to the final section of the sentence which informs the reader that
Weir is fascinated by the divination taking place. Using the adjective fascinated precisely aligns
with imagery associated with a childlike fixation upon something, and so it can be extrapolated
that in this case the object of the subject s curiosity is extispicy. That Weir can stomach such a
ritual and remain engaged and fascinated suggest that the character truly believes that this can
determine his future with a degree of useful accuracy. This barbaric practice and all its derivatives
collectively indicate the desperation of the soldiers and how they are left with no option but to
cling on to any form of hope they can muster.
As well as an air of hope, an underlying sense of ridicule and even mockery is brought to bear
through Ellis response to the ritualistic predictions, remarking that Stephen and Weir should be
ashamed of themselves . A depth of ignominy is acknowledged in this light, which evinces that
certain soldiers believe such practice to be nonsense and that those who practice it should be
embarrassed. Specific phrasing as you should be ashamed stipulates an understanding that such
behaviour was commonplace, as the characters are not ashamed, however it is of Ellis opinion that
they should be. Faulks in this way offers

Reflection Of The Last Supper
The Last Supper The Last Supper was painted by da Vinci between 1495 and 1498. It is 15 feet
wide by 29 feet long and it is not in a museum, it is in a church. This painting depicts the last
supper that was celebrated by Jesus and his disciples, as told in the Gospel of John, and the
reactions given by each disciple when Jesusreveals to them that one of them would betray him.
Starting from the left and moving to right the each individual figure is as follows:
Furthest to the left is Bartholomew. Next to him is James, son of Alphaeus, and Andrew. These
three men appear to be surprised. Next to Andrew is Judas Iscariot, Peter and John who formed
the next group of three. Judas is holding a small bag in his right hand which could mean two
things; either as a symbol of silver that was given to him as a payment for betraying Jesus, or
could be a reference of him as the treasurer of the twelve disciples. Peter, who is next to Judas,
looks angry and he is holding a knife and this could in a reference where Jesus was arrested and
he cut off one of the guard s ears, which was later restored by Jesus. And then there is the youngest

Ardennes Offensive Advantages And Disadvantages
The Allies faced various disadvantages during the Ardennes Offensive: пѓ Since the Allies had
reached the German border after the Normandy landings by this time, they faced an important
intelligence disadvantage. The Germans used only telephones and tele printers within the German
borders. Radios were not used as the Allies had cracked Enigma by then. пѓ The Allied aircraft
reconnaissance suffered due to the autumn fog and withheld them from making optimum use of air
power especially the tank busting Typhoons of the RAF or Mustang fighters from the USAAF
which would have been used against German tanks. Though the weather was typical for the
Ardennes in winter, the ground was hard enough for military vehicles to cross and this suited the
armored attack Hitler envisaged. пѓ Germans used charcoal instead of wood to reduce smoke
detection. The Battle of Bulge Military Situation maps: 16th December 1944 On the morning of

Divine Command Theory Thomas Aquinas
Thomas Aquinas was an Italian philosopher who lived during the time of 1225 1274 AD.
Aquinas was most known for his studies in faith and reason. Aquinas ethics relies on the idea that
there is a God and that God is a perfect and loving being who is cares for his creation. But,
Aquinas does not believe that Godhas a set of commands that distinguishes right from wrong for
each individual to follow. A way to explain these rules is by the Divine Command Theory
. To further
explain, these rules are better defined as the moral status of an action determined by the will or
commands of God. It seems that God created the distinction of right from wrong in order to aid
human beings to act in a way that is morally correct according to his commands so that they
could achieve perfect happiness. Aquinas tells us that perfect happiness is a perfect relationship
with God. The Divine Command Theory is completely independent of whether or not anyone
believes it and is applicable to anyone at any time. God has also wired all human beings in a
certain way in which we have the ability to perform virtues in order to fulfill functions and acting
in ways that are against virtues and functions would not be beneficial to the human as that is not
how God has created us and commanded us to act. By understanding Thomas Aquinas ethical
views, we are able to better understand the idea of the Divine Command Theory and why these two
ideas go well together in discussing ethical decisions. Thomas Aquinas

  • 2. Play Critique The Doctor in Spite of Himself: The Doctor in Spite of Himself is a play that I had previously studied in France like many of MoliГЁre s plays. I thought that it was ironic for me to go see the play for the first time in theatre in the United States. I was really looking forward to hear how the actors would pronounce the characters French names, which are rather exotic even for me. I think that because I had previously studied MoliГЁre s work in class, I was expecting this play to be performed in a much more traditional style. I was a little disconcerted at first when seeing the actors performing a more modern version than what I had in mind. I ended up liking what Arne Zaslove has done with the play. In my opinion, modernizing it a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was not expecting the costumes to be as eccentric. Even though they were matching the characters role and personality, I felt like they were too wacky and did not go well with the play. Throughout the play, I enjoyed the role of music used to set a comic atmosphere and replace the dialogs during comic scenes (e.g. when they chase each other around). I also thought that they made a good use of light to indicate the moment of the day the scene was happening or to set the atmosphere of the scene (e.g. pink colour during the romantic moments). Lastly, I liked the way the play ended. Even though it was a little messy with everyone running after each other off and on stage, and this policeman coming out of nowhere, which really surprised me; I couldn t think of a better way to end the play. Overall I think the actors and everyone involved in the making of this play did a very good job, even though I liked the performance of some actors better than others. The fact that this translation of the play was a more modern version original play made it more fun to watch according to me. Unfortunately, the fact that I was not able to fully understand the actors dialog throughout the play made it less entertaining and agreeable for me to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Similarities Between Beowulf And Cain Sabrina Spray Daniel Gillespie Word Literature 1/ENGL 2310 401 October 23, 2017 Kin from Cain In the story Beowulf, many of the themes are derived from the proverbs and fables practiced in the old testament, while pagan beliefs of monsters, demons, and multiple gods are added. The most popular of the biblical comparisons is viewed between Grendel, enemy of Beowulf, and Cain, evil brother of Able. Grendel and his mother are both described as decedents of Cain. The figure Cain is used as a metaphor during the period to represent the disorder and evil. In the classic story of Cain and Able, Cain viciously kills his brother in a outbreak of jealously and anger. For Cain s sin, he was banished from the Garden of Eden by God and left only to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Hebrew Bible, the figure Cain killed his brother and he drunk his blood. A quote read in Beowulf that shows the dark and evil comparison of Grendel to Cain would be, Hygelac s kinsman was keenly watching for the first move the monster would make. Nor did the creature keep him waiting but struck suddenly and started in: he grabbed and mauled a man on his bench, bit into his bone lappings, bolted down his blood and gorged on him in lumps, leaving the body utterly lifeless, eaten up, hand and foot. (Angelo Saxon, 736 744). This is a evil action Grendel typically does after he kills his victims. Grendel was believed to be able to shift his shape and have magical powers, like Cain and his descendants. A good example would be when Grendel cast the spell on the warrior s sword so no harm was done to himself. The most major similarity between Grendel and Cain, is that they both are loners of society. They roam in the shadows, with no one to fit in with. Both Grendel and Cain are threats to society and the order, as shown by Grendel with the Danes. In Beowulf, Heorot, is the symbol of peace. This is also known as the mead hall. That s where the warriors would gather to celebrate and rejoice for the victory. In the story, when Grendel was first introduced, the audience is told that he is angry and hated at all the sounds of laughter and fun, because he was hearing the laughing in his head when ... • 4. Ulcerative Colitis Introduction: What is Ulcerative Colitis? Just from the name, you can guess that this disease concerns ulcers. But does this entail anything else? Let us find out in this article about the disease that still has its causes unverified by the world. Ulcerative Colitis (UC) is a disease/disorder of the Large intestine. It occurs in the colonand rectum areas only. When food passes through the Large Intestine, the body s immune system may mistake the food materials, bacteria, etc as foreign invading agents and sends White blood cells (WBC) to defend the body. This causes chronic inflammation and ulceration of the large intestine, which causes severe pain and discomfort for the patient. This is why this disease falls under the category of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and is also referred to as an autoimmune disease. Furthermore, we still don t... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are considered as auto immune disorders and both of them successfully fall under the criteria of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) but they work in different areas of the body. Crohn s disease can occur in any part of the Gastro Intestinal Tract (GIT), while Ulcerative Colitis only affects the colon and rectum of the large intestine. Again, Crohn s Disease can affect all layers of the bowel while Ulcerative Colitis, can harm only the linings of the colon. These are the major differences between them. Conclusion Though Ulcerative Colitis is not a disease that can cause certain death, but it can lead to the creation of many other which have high mortality rates. Such as, strokes and colon cancer. We know that there is bleeding when Ulcerative Colitis occurs. So, during blood clotting, increased amounts of blood clots also form in the brain causes strokes. • 5. Snow Imagery in “Desert Places” and “Stopping by Woods on... Robert Frost (1874 1963). Robert Frost was the most widely admired and highly honoured American poet of the 20th century (Eiermann). Robert Frost was raised in rural New England where he grew a fond love for the outdoors and nature (Merriman). His love with nature elements has probably overwhelmed him so much that it has been reflected upon in many of his poems such as The Tuft of Flowers, Reluctance, and Birches. One of the nature imageries that have been used frequently by Robert Frostis the snow imagery. Although the snow imagery appears in many other poems by Frost we will be dealing with the poems Desert Places and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. Even though Desert Places and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is also because of the mysteriousness of the woods being lovely, dark, and deep (Frost, Stopping., line 13) that makes the speaker mesmerized. The snow in this poem gave the speaker calmness by the woods and gives the poem the mood of welcome and mysteriousness whereas in Desert Places the snow establishes the mood of loneliness and emptiness. Therefore, if the snow imagery made the mood of the poems different, then evidently the snow imagery will make the themes of the two poems different as well. From the different manipulations of the snow imagery on the moods in Desert Places and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening it made their themes distinctly different from each other. The snow that surrounded the speaker in Desert Places made the field look like an open, empty, lonely place. It is from the surroundings that the speaker creates his own loneliness. From this, it is clear that the speaker s loneliness inside himself/ herself overwhelms them so much that it causes their outlook to be of only loneliness. So in Desert Places the theme is that the loneliness that is created from within of the speaker causes him/her to realize or see the loneliness that is inside them and also the loneliness that surrounds them, which is nature. The Most Significant Aspect of Roosevelt s Presidency and New Deal up to 1941 In this essay I am going to be assessing which was the most significant aspect of Franklin Delano Roosevelt s Presidency, by looking at four different aspects of it, and then applying tests to each aspect. I will be looking into Roosevelt s Economic Policies, Economic Ideas, Role of the Presidency and the Electoral performance of the Democratic party and then, applying the following tests to them: Firstly, the Amount of change, then the Immediate effects, then the Long term effects, and finally the Effect of one aspect on another. Roosevelt s economic ideas were clearly different to those of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A change like this had never been made before and Roosevelt faced some antagonistic Democrats who sided with the Republicans in voting down Roosevelt s new laws. To cope with this dilemma, he made another change and introduced the Caucus System whereby Democrats would meet outside Congress and decide on how they would vote. Pro Roosevelt democrats would out vote the anti, and the decision was binding on all. The second major change made, was that Roosevelt increased the power of the Executive Branch, altering the balance of the three branches. Roosevelt took many more branches of Government under White House Control (e.g. the FBI), and massively increased the size of the White House staff. The third major change was that he became the first President to notably use the media as a way of communicating and advertising to the nation. However, he did have one major failure. After announcing his New Deal Laws, The Supreme Court declared some of them unconstitutional, E.g. the NRA, and had a 6/5 majority win. So Roosevelt tried to change the rules and proposed to appoint new judges in the Supreme Court whenever a judge reached 70, instead of when a judge retired. Unfortunately, Congress (including the Democrats,) rejected this plan as a violation of constitution it would turn the Role of the President into the role of Dictator. • 7. Analyzing Some of Anna Akhmatova s Poetry Unassuming Exuberance Anna Akhmatova lived from 1889 to 1966 during a dark, rough time in Russia. Everything is Plundered, I Am Not One of Those Who Left the Land, and Midnight Verses are prime examples of Akhmatova s symbolic literature. Akhmatova used poetry to help her overcome difficulties in life; it was a way of expressing and setting her feelings free. All of Anna Akhmatovas poems contain a common theme that connects to her real life: though life can be rough, it is important to deal with problems and work towards acceptance. In Midnight Verses, the theme is dark and tumultuous. This poem is a perfect reflection of Akhmatova s life. She faced many complications in life, but she had to accept them because she did not want to give up on her home country. Likewise, Akhmatova s poem has an unwilling acceptance at the end. Midnight Verses also displays her thoughts in a very creative way. And the signal bells of light rhymes / Then I begin to understand / And the simply dictated lines / Lie down in the snow white notebook (Akhmatova 13 16). Throughout Midnight Verses, Akhmatova uses powerful imagery, making it easy to relate to her thoughts. Everything is Plundered is another of Akhmatova s poems that continues to illustrate this theme. In Everything is Plundered, the theme of confusion and contrast in life is present. The struggles in life are portrayed throughout the poem. This poem reflects humanity s imperfect ... In general, the eye of loin, flat, heel and tenderloin cuts treated between 400 and 600MPa had higher oxidation values exceeding 0.5 mg MDA/kg. Saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids content were lower in HPP treatment of almost all cuts (except rump and heel cuts) at all pressures. Polyunsaturated fatty acids content was lower in HPP treated inside, knuckle, and tenderloin cuts at 600 MPa compared to control. Nine essential and 8 non essential amino acids were identified in the lamb cuts. HPP increased the total free amino acids composition significantly (P ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. It s Just A Regular Day It s just another regular day, nothing truly interesting has happened for a little while, which is pretty disappointing but it gives me time to relax. I am getting a feeling that it s not going to stay like this. Something will happen, hopefully soon, besides that I m just talking to Honey and Mori because Hikaru and Kaoru seemed busy, so I decided not to bother them now. Bored, I put my elbow on the table and put my hand on my cheek to support my head. Where s Tamaki senpai? He should be here by now. I have to admit, the picture looks good. Hikaru and Kaoru have some nice photoshopping skills. The picture is just Haruhi s head on what it seems to be Tamaki s body. Haru chan, you are so cool! I said, taking the mouse and scrolled down to check out the website, only to see another picture with both Haruhi and me being too close for comfort. Did I really have to be included? We did some extra photos too, Hikaru smirked, looking at the computer screen. • 11. Inadequate Voter Registration 3.Inadequate Voter Registration 3.1 Multiple Registration Multiple Registration is a huge challenge for holding a free and fair presidential election in Afghanistan. Voter registration process in Afghanistan is different as compared to rest of the world. According to the electoral law of Afghanistan, for presidential elections, the entire country is a single electoral constituency (Ministry of Justice, 2016, p.29). This means that a voter can register himself and vote in any voting station across the country. Therefore, voter s lists do not exist in the voting stations, and the required documents are election cards that open entrance for voters to vote. According to ICG, 10.6 million Afghans were registered within Afghanistan and 740,000 special election cards were distributed to Afghan refugees in Pakistan in 2004(ICG, 2009, p. 15). Later, in 2005, through a registration process, 1.7 million more elections cards added to the previously available voter cards. Similarly, in 2009, 4.4 million new voter cards were issued for those who supposedly were not registered before. Play means different things to different people. Rubin, Fein and Vandenberg (1983) {cited in Hughes, 2010} suggest play should be intrinsically motivated, freely chosen, pleasurable, non literal and actively engaging. • 13. Childcare Breakdowns In The Workforce The labor force of the United States has changed drastically over the last forty years. According to the Department of Labor, in 2012, 64% of woman with children under the age of six are in the labor force. While only 34% of mothers were working in 1970 (Gullekson, Griffeth, Vancouver, Kovner, Cohen, 2014). Furthermore, in 1974, 80% of kids under the age 17 were cared for by a parent (Morrissey Warne, 2011). Given this dramatic increase of mothers in the workforce, there is a considerable amount of time missed by the working parent. On average, American working parents miss nine days of work per year and that number increases to thirteen as the child moves through daycare and into elementary school. Various representations of the future are envisioned by many, most of which present a dystopia rather than a utopia. This is due to the advancements being made by the modern world that raise concerns about security and especially privacy, leading text makers to predict the worst. The issue is discussed in the texts The Minority Report by Philip K. Dick (1956), Steven Spielberg s Minority Report (2002) and George Orwell s 1984 (1949). Through elements such as surveillance, technology and excessive government control, Philip K. Dick, Steven Spielberg and George Orwell create a bleak and dystopic vision of the future. Through falsely accusing innocent people and heavy control, a near dystopic future is exemplified in the novella, The Minority Report (TMR) by Philip K. Dick. The story is based on pre crime which is foreseen by three precognitives which result in a supposedly crime free society. However, it only becomes an illusion of peace by essentially taking in individuals who have broken no law, (pg. 72.) therefore there s a moral dilemma for the accused are being imprisoned based on the majority report. More s society, viewed through the character Hythloday, is seemingly based on man s nature in society being generally good, and the faults of man emanate from how society itself is set up. Hobbes takes the opposite view of human nature, where man s will to survive makes him unable to act out of goodness and it is man who is responsible for society s ills. The only exception was a positive and strict law against anyone who would sink so far below the dignity of human nature as to think that the soul perishes with the body, or that the universe is ruled by blind chance, not divine providence. However it may not be bias that is perceived, but just that through his investigation he has found that the constrained court view is a more accurate representation. It literally means fear of the marketplace. Carl Westphal first coined the term agoraphobia in 1871 to describe people who were afraid of large open spaces. Since then, the definition of agoraphobia has been modified and continues to develop as more research is done. (Barlow, 2002, p. 328) The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM 5; American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013) defines the essential trait of agoraphobia as marked, or intense, fearor anxietytriggered by the real or anticipated exposure to a wide range of situations. The fear might occur in anticipation or in the actual event or presence of the situation that they feared. This might and often does take the form of a panic attack or a limited symptom attack, which is an attack that is not as severe as a panic attack. This fear happens nearly every time the person is in this situation not just every once in a while. It causes significant distress and changes behavior so that it may impair the person socially, occupationally, or in other significant areas of their life. For it to be considered agoraphobia if it is combined with another medical condition the fear, anxiety and avoidance must show signs of being excessive and out of proportion to their actual situation. (APA, 2013, pg 218) The Agoraphobia Workbook s definition of agoraphobia sums these characteristics as a maladaptive fear of and desire to avoid situations in which the individual believes a symptom attack may occur and result in incapacitation, humiliation, or some other catastrophe. (Pollard White, 2003, p. 22) This definition points out a key part of agoraphobia which is the maladaptive fear. Beyond having fear of the previously mentioned situations, many people adjust to this fear by becoming completely homebound. In Child s Play, Alice Munro touches on the discrimination children with disabilities faced back in the fifties. In this essay I will be commenting on how Alice Munro used her story Child s Play to show the relationship between people who have mental disabilities and the discrimination they faced. This story shows how back in the fifties people with mental disabilities were treated like they are less than everyone else, how they were treated differently, and how they were a burden to everyone around them. The involvement may be an historic one that has long been forgotten, but it is this origin that distinguishes it from purely political discrimination. It is impossible to argue that Peter was not involved in the issue of sectarianism but what was his exact role? What persecution did he himself suffer, or even worse, what discrimination did he himself perpetrate? And most importantly, what sectarianism did Peter help the Church overcome? A clear statement of how much Stein s family means to him, Elie lies to him, saying that they all continue to be safe. • 41. Crime Affects Crime My research question is How does committing crimes affect a person s physical health and do different crimes affect physical health more or less? It is important to the criminal justice system to determine how much crime actually affects the health of an offender. Assuming that committing crimes causes stress to the individual, stress can show negative side effects on the human body that can be physical or mental. By identifying any health problems created by committing crimes, one could potentially deter potential criminals. In the criminal justicesystem in the United States, there currently is not much deterrence for criminals in regards to punishment. There is the potential to use the risk of them affecting their health as a deterrent. It is also important to look at how different crimes affect the physical health of an offender. For instance, a small crimesuch as shoplifting may not cause as much stress as robbery. Looking into the potential for higher stress levels in certain crimes could lead to offenders avoiding those crimes. If criminals stop committing the higher stress crimes, it can help law enforcement and citizens focus on stopping the lesser crimes. Although I could not find an article or experiment related to crime causing stress, I found the opposite. Strain theory attempts to explain that stress causes crime. Aquinas ethics relies on the idea that there is a God and that God is a perfect and loving being who is cares for his creation. But, Aquinas does not believe that Godhas a set of commands that distinguishes right from wrong for each individual to follow. A way to explain these rules is by the Divine Command Theory .
