The I Chose For My Close Reading Assignment Comes From...
The pericope I chose for my close reading assignment comes from Revelation chapter 22 verses 1
6. When reading this pericope it quickly obvious the genre is apocalyptic. In the few short
verses there is evidence of an apocalyptic genre such as the means of revelation. Verse 5 says,
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal. This pericope is
apocalyptic because verse 1 is just one example of the means of revelation. The genre is also
apocalyptic because it has examples of determinism. The restoration of the New Jerusalem is
history moving forward towards a conclusion. The last evidence of this pericope being
apocalyptic literature is the division of history into the Old and New Ages. The entire pericope is
about the coming of the New Jerusalem, which is brining the old age to a close. Trying to find the
boundaries of the pericope it was slightly difficult, especially when excluding chapter numbers from
making the decision. Both chapter 21 and 22 talk about the restoration Godwill do, including the
New Jerusalem and heaven. If chapter 22 is depicting the Garden of Edenwill the garden be inside
of the New Jerusalem? The start of this pericope begins in verse 1 in chapter 22 because of the
slight shift that takes place. The shift is in chapter 21 the restoration was clear that it was the New
Jerusalem. Would John, the author, chunk the pericope as both chapter 21 and chapter 22:1 5?
While the chosen pericope starts talking about the

Sam Spade Character Analysis
The greedy powerful plump man in the luxurious black suite is sitting down by the table. Yet the
man is sweating from the brow. He is intently and almost desperately focusing on the dark
ominous bird statute. The younger beautiful deceitful lady with the decorative white scarf is
leaning over the table looking closely at the plump man sitting down waiting what will happen
next. Next to the luxurious devious lady is the relatively short man with curly hair that is quick to
talk but lacks wisdom at times is also in a suite. The man is frantic and driven by voracity is so
intoned to the dark black statute that he seems oblivious to anything else. The man across from the

This film to me was a classic film. Sam Spade the main character is a detective that is good at his
job. Throughout the film Spade seems to know what to do and what to say in all scenarios. He
is man that can defend himself without a gun. Throughout the film he seems to be the good guy
but at times seems to be playing the other side is well. This is shown when he is friends with one
of the deputies and then at the same time has meetings with Gutman a well known wealthy
criminal. It makes the viewer think about if Spade is really a good guy because of the lack of
emotion that he shows after losing his partner. Also when he is meeting with Gutman it seems
as if he is just as interested in getting the falcon because of the money he want s for helping
Gutman and the others get it. Spade is made to look like a man that has the upper hand and
power. This is shown when the two cops walk right into his bedroom and they know him but
accuse him of Miles Archer s murderer. Spade is able to convince them to look elsewhere to find
Archer s murderer. Even when Spade is at Gutman s hotel room and Gutman is very powerful the
viewer anticipates Spade coming out on top when it came to business. When Spade was trying to
figure out what happened he could sense Brigid O Shaughnessy wasn t telling the truth. Scenarios
like this portrayed Spade as a dominant man. Spade had a plan and it really wasn t known until the
final scene when Spade turned O Shaughnessy over for the murder. The last scene Spade talks
about why he has no choice but to turn her over for the murdering of his partner. It wasn t until this
final scene that viewers fully understand that Spade through all of the scenes had a plan to get to
the bottom of his partners murder. In that way Spade was a true detective. The viewer along with
the characters were unable to notice through him that when he was getting involved with criminals
and money that he was after one thing. That thing

Comparing Emotion In As She s Walking Away And If I Told You
Country music is generally simple in form and harmony, typified by romantic or melancholy
ballads, with lyrics that tell a memorable story. Songs can tell similar stories of internal struggle as
to whether or not to speak from the heart, but can also differ completely in use of emotion.
Through imagery and repetition, the listener can relate to the main message and have a deeper
understanding of the theme. Despite their emotional and lyrical differences, As She s Walking
Away by Zac Brown
Band and If I Told You by Darius Rucker, both songs portray a lack of courage and similar
insecurities in asking the question, What if? .
There are countless times in a person s life when they ask, What if? . In If I Told You, the lyrics
depict the internal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though the same What if? theme is represented in As She s Walking Away, the lyrics give
imagery of the internal struggle of being too shy to speak from his heart. A whimsical melody
plays as his foolish pride and fear of falling on his face have him falling in love with the girl that he
has never spoken to
as she s walking away .
In both songs, the repetition of the lyrics draws the listener s attention to particular words and
phrases. In the melancholy ballad, If I Told You, Rucker repeats the lines, If I told you all the
stupid things I ve done, I d blamed on being young, but I was old enough to know, I know , If I
told you the mess I can be when there s no one there to see and could you look the other way
cause you love me anyway . The soulful singer is emphasizing with raw emotions, the fear of
baring one s soul to the person they love and unknowing how they will react to it. In the romantic
song, As She s Walking Away,
Brown repeats the lines, My heart won t tell my mind to tell my mouth what it should say , You
might fall down on your face, roll the dice and have some faith and Don t be falling in love as she s

Revolutionary Causes
Revolutionary Causes Humans have always needed a power above to guide them. Whether it
could be a monarchy, republic, or a god. It gives humans a sense of safety and trust. There is no
place on earth without a governmental system. However, if that government is corrupt the people
have the right to overthrow it and replace the system with something new. The right of which it is
said in The Declaration of Independence. America was born but at what cost? The Revolutionary
War had ended. A new era began as humans on the other side of the world heard of the victory. The
French in particular were ecstatic of the news because they had helped the Americans defeat
England. This excitement did not last. The French had their own problems. First, they

As permanent colour change is subjective, the detection of the end point is inconsistent, resulting in
an imprecise experiment.
However, systematic errors affected the experiment the most. The most significant systematic error
was reading off the amount of potassium manganate (VII) used in the titration from the burette. Due
to the deep purple colour of the solution, it was very difficult to read the increments. For both the
initial and final burette readings, readings might have been taken off the top of the meniscus,
causing an overestimation of potassium manganate (VII) needed and thus, the experimental mass
of FeSO4 in one tablet was larger than the manufacturer s claim of 300mg in one tablet.
Additionally, the dissolving method of the iron tablets was a major systematic error. Because we
were just using a glass rod to crush and stir the iron tablets and because of the limited time spent on
the procedure, the iron tablets may not have been completely dissolved in the water. Hence, there
would be less Fe2+ ions in the iron solution and thus, less potassium manganate (VII) would be
needed to reach the end point. Some Fe2+ ions might also have been lost on the filter paper or the
beaker whilst transferring the solution, thus causing less potassium manganate to reach the end
point and resulting in inaccurate measurements and calculations.
Evaluation:
As seen from the relatively small percentage error (1.49%) of my experimental result when

Red Velvet Waffles Analysis
Spicy Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Red Velvet Waffles with Spicy Butter Pecan Syrup
If I took one day longer to publish this recipe I know my followers would chew me out! I debuted
this Spicy Buttermilk Fried Chicken and Red Velvet Waffles with Butter Pecan Syrup on my
Twitter last week and seemed to get pretty good engagement on the pictures. YAY! =) My taste
tester thoroughly enjoyed the meal and said they would pay for it in a restaurant sooo I think I
have a winner, guys! Who knows, I might actually sell this meal in my future restaurant.

In all honesty, I don t have an elaborate story on how I developed this recipe. I saw a picture of

I was thinking about making a spicy chocolate syrup to play off of the small amount of cocoa
powder in the red velvet waffles. I also thought the spicy chocolate syrup would work well with
the chicken because, mole. LOL, BUT I know most of my readers have probably never tried
chicken mole and would probably write me an email cussing me out for pairing chicken with
chocolate!
Anyway, I settled on making a spicy butter pecan syrup from scratch. Yes, my loves, we can
make syrup in our kitchens! Fear not, I promise it s not very labor intensive. I toasted my pecans
for a few minutes then I added them to the syrup (which is just sugar and water) then I added
some cayenne pepper, some chipotle powder, some bourbon and of course butter. This syrup is not
lacking in the spice department, it will rattle your taste buds. The heat won t overwhelm you so
there s no need to worry.

Why Is Stanley A Bad Boy
If you take a bad boy and make him dig holes every day, in the hot sun, it will turn him into a
good boy (Sachar 3) But Stanley wasn t a bad boy. He was wrongly accused. Stanley changes
from unlucky to lucky because of how Sachar describes him in the beginning, middle and end.
At the beginning of the novel Stanley is poor, has bad self esteem, and is overweight. Sachar
shows this in the novel with He was overweight and the kids at his school teased him about his
size (Sachar 7). This statement explains that he was not very fit and his classmates made fun of
him because of this. Also Stanley wasn t the luckiest. Sachar explains this in the novel by He d just

The Epidemiology Of Heart Rate
Heart rate is the number of times a minute our heart makes a beat. It is a very vital sound. There
are two parts to each heartbeat. The first part is when the heart contracts and pumps blood, is
called the systole (sis tol). The second part is when the heart relaxes so the chambers can refill with
blood, is called diastole (di as tol). Heartrate is what causes blood to run through your arteries. The
heart uses a lot of force to pump blood to the whole body. If your heart stops working then none of
your body will be able to get blood and you most likely die if some can t get your heart to start back
up again. The heart is one of the most vital arteries in the body.

The cardiovascular system is responsible for transporting oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and cellular
waste products all throughout the body. The cardiovascular systems main power is the heart. There
are two main circulatory loops in the human body. The pulmonary circulation loop and the systemic
circulation loop. The pulmonary circulation moves deoxygenated blood from the right side of the
heart to the lungs, where the blood picks up oxygen and returns to the left side of the heart. The
pumping chambers of the heart that support the pulmonary circulation loop are the right atrium and
right ventricle. The systemic circulation brings very high oxygenated blood from the left side of
the heart to all of the tissues of the body, except for the heart and lungs. Systemic circulation
removes wastes from body tissues and returns deoxygenated blood to the right side of the heart. The
left atrium and left ventricle of the heart are the pumping chambers for the systemic circulation

Harvey V. Hadfield 13 Utah 2d 1979
It is likely that a court will find Caterers Unlimited did not contract with Kris Hamilton for items
deemed as necessaries under Utah s Legal Capacity of Children statute. The statute states a minor
is bound not only for reasonable value of necessaries but also by his contracts, unless he
disaffirms them. Utah Code Ann. В§ 15 2 2 (1953). The Utah court further explains this
legislation in Harvey v. Hadfield, where the court specifically recognizes the justice and propriety
of refusing to enforce contracts against minors, except for necessities and reaffirms that the
purpose of the 15 2 statute is to protect minors from imprudent acts until they have the maturity of
judgment necessary to deal with opposing parties on equal terms so that it is fair and equitable to
bind them by their acts. Harvey v. Hadfield, 13 Utah 2d 258, 372 P.2d 985 (1962). Although the
Utah courts have failed to explicitly define the term necessaries, authority from the Arizona Court
of Appeals in the Valencia v. White case determined that necessaries constitute items such as food,
clothing, housing, and other basic requirements to sustain life Valencia v. White, 134 Ariz. 139, 654
P.2d 287 (Ct. App. 1982). It should be noted that the Arizona court did not created a strict test to
determine necessaries, instead choosing to determine each case on a factual and reasonable basis.
In the Valencia case the minor entered into a contract crucial to the operation of his trucking
company. At the

Discourse Analysis In Carl Sanburg s Grass
When analyzing a poem, it is important to understand the language that is being used. When
applying discourse theory to a poem, it is important to analyze the language beyond the sentence
itself. Discourse analysis studies the natural use of language, rather than the invented examples. The
main objective of discourse analysis is to create a better understanding of how language is used
through textual features and what effects it has on that investment. Texts often require these
features that enables the reader to understand the motivation of that author. In his poem, Grass, Carl
Sanburg utilizes verbs, proper nouns, and nouns to efficiently erase the signs of the past. In the
poem, Grass, the author uses many linguistic features throughout the poem, verbs being one of
them. Verbs are defined as words that are used to describe an action or a state, forming the main
objective of the sentence. Sanburg uses verbs consistently throughout his poem to describe the
actions in the poem. The first sentence of the poem states, Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and
Waterloo (Sanburg). He uses the wordpile, which can be inferred as a nounor a verb, which in this
sentence is used as a verb. The verb pile can infer two different meanings, one defined as placing
things one on top of another whereas the second meaning defines the entry of a large group in a
disorganized manner. The application of this word symbolizes the insignificant importance of these
bodies that now lay atop one

Cyanide Reaction Lab Report
I.INTRODUCTION
Cyanide is a chemical compound containing cyano (─C≡N) groups, comprising carbon and
nitrogen radicals, and can be found in various organic and inorganic compounds. Some inorganic
cyanide compounds such as sodium cyanide (NaCN) and potassium cyanide (KCN) are groups
of compounds having negatively charged polyatomic cyanide ions (CN ). This compound is a salt
of a highly toxic hydrocyanic acid. Several types of organic cyanides are usually called nitriles, in
which the CN group is covalently bonded to a carbon group, such as methyl (CH3) dimethyl
cyanide (acetonitrile). Since nitrile compounds do not release free cyanide ions, they are generally
less toxic, or in the case of insoluble polymers such as acrylic fibers, essentially ... Show more

Complexes that react very quickly called labile, while the reaction that takes place slowly or not

constant is [Fe(CN)3]4 dan [Pt(CN)4]2 (Raya, 2014).
Nickel in the nickel (II) state is more stable than nickel (0), nickel (I), nickel (III) and nickel
(IV). Nickel (I) and nickel (0) are unstable because they are easily oxidized, nickel (III) is easily
reduced to nickel (II) and nickel (IV) is rare. Nickel (II) forms a large number of complexes with
coordination numbers 6, 5, and 4, which have all major types of structures, namely octahedral,
bipiramidal trigonal, pyramidal squares, tetrahedral, and square (Cotton and Wilkinson, 2009). Most
nickel complexes adopt octahedron geometry structures, adopt only slightly the geometry of
tetrahedron and square.
A nickel (II) complex with a strong ligand capable of performing better electron donations, tends
to prefer a square structure rather than an octahedral. The commonly known nickel (II) complex
compound is a tetracanonic acid (II) ([Ni(CN)4)]2 ) diamagnetic ion. The square structure can
occur because one d orbitals, one s orbital and two p orbitals undergo dsp2 hybridization. The
square nickle cyanide complex with a strong cyanide ligand will be more stable with the radii of

Soccer Criticism
Criticism
We were in Irvine that day for a soccer tournament. I played defense at the time and enjoyed
playing there. Even though I didn t score a lot of goals, it was still fun to play.
When I got to my team, I set my bag down and did the stretches our coach, Wendi, wanted us to
do. I was last in line. No one talked to me. They all had their own cliques. I found that extremely
stupid due to the fact that...well hello?! We re a team and teams are supposed to talk to each
other, not make their own cliques. I just needed them to talk to me when we played. The only
person I sort of talked to was my coach. Yet, I didn t talk to her all the time. I was shy.
I liked Wendi. She was my first female coach in soccer and did a great job of coaching. She never

Effects Of Listening On Mozart s Music
Countless studies have proven time and time again that a student s performance in school is
greatly increased when they learn to play an instrument. The studies discuss the Mozart Effect,
which says that listening to Mozart s music can increase a child s ability for spatial reasoning, as
well as help brain development. The studies also cite the fact that many of history s most
intelligent men, like Albert Einstein and Benjamin Franklin, played one or more musical
instruments. These studies are wrong. Students should not be required to learn an instrument,
because it does not help them perform better in school. This fact was proven by a study done by
Harvard researchers. The study was relatively simple. The researchers gathered together 29 parents
and their four year olds. The children were then asked to complete a vocabulary test. After the test
was completed, the children were randomly split up into two separate groups. One group was
designated to take musiclessons for a year, while the other took visual art lessons for a year. When
the year was up, the children were tested on cognition, vocabulary, math, and spatial tasks. These
tests were chosen because they are more representative of intelligencethan a simple IQ test. The
students who had taken music lessons for a year performed almost identically to the students who
had not taken any music lessons. The only difference was that some of the music lesson students
performed marginally better on one of the spatial

There are some facts concerning steroid use in recent years: Ken Caminiti, the Most Valuable
Player (MVP) in 1996, admitted to steroid use which В‘coincidentally began the same year he
won the MVP. Mark McGwire, who in 1998 broke the homerun record by hitting seventy in one

while Palmero, who denied ever using steroids, acknowledged that he knew of people who did use

Following an investigation by Congress, Major League Baseball (MLB) was forced to establish a

and an entire year for the fourth. After continuous harassment by Congress, MLB decided to
insert a new policy where the first steroid use would be penalized with a 50 game suspension, the
second time a 100 game suspension, and the third time an expulsion from baseball. Since 2004,
thirteen major league baseball players have been suspended for steroids, and over fifty minor

Next on my list was a regional stage manager, Ruth Kramer. Ruth is based out of New York,
however her last job was in Pittsburgh. As of right now Ruth is between adventures as she so
cheerfully put it. However, the last show she worked on was Equus. Equus was a big show, and
the hardest part was keeping the actors safe. The men played horses, so they had horse masks
and hooves which made it difficult to see and walk around on stage. As for Ruth, the hardest part
was learning the text and material, because this show was about psychology so she had to
research to fully understand the production. Besides that, she said that everything else went well
during the show. However, her director decided to leave for a week instead of the 2 days... Show

The longest she has been without work will be 4 months, which would be from this November

Ruth s advice simply boiled down to you have to absolutely love it if you want to do it. She said
this, there is influx of stage managers and an outflow of jobs . If you find out when you start

Science-Fiction Films During The 1950 s
The science fiction film genre serves as an excellent medium for examining shifting power
structures, social paranoia and Cold War politics during the 1950s. A number of films released
during this period, including: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), The Day the Earth Stood
Still (1951), Them (1954) and Attack of the 50ft Woman (1958), are particularly symptomatic of
the social and political atmosphere of the time. These films navigate not only narrative based
issues such as the threat of aliens and science experiments gone wrong; but also wider issues of the
time, such as the Cold War, changes in the US filmindustry, urbanisation, politics, the growing
power of women and most significantly, social concern about nuclear energy.
Before analysing individual science fiction films from the 1950s, it is important to gain a clear
understanding of the social, cultural and political background against which these films were set.
Paranoia is a term frequently used to describe an acute, anxiety dominated medical condition
(Paranoia, 2009), however in the context of 1950 s America, this term can be used more accurately
to describe the general, delusionary mood of the nation. The first important event that influenced a
paranoiac filmmaking atmosphere was the Cold War. As opposed to the hot war (WWII) that
involved active military hostilities, the Cold War was based on heightened tension and suspicions
between Western Bloc (USA) powers and Eastern Bloc (Soviet Union) powers (The

How Did William Penn Influence America
After traveling throughout Europe with George Fox, the founder of the Quaker belief, William
Penn was finally granted land over in the new world by the King Charles II, the king of England
at the time. The land was a way to settle the king s debt with Penn s father, however William Penn
had requested the land for a different purpose a place the Quakers could finally live and not be
oppressed. Through his construction of Pennsylvania, Penn had an enormous influence on the future
United States of America through his belief of religious freedom, being a humanitarian, and by
creating an ethnic diversity in the middle colony. His Quaker religion had a major influence on
Pennsylvania, since each Quaker let each person follow the light of Jesus in their own way. Also,
Penn promoted the human welfare for each group that came into Pennsylvania, and tried to create a
sufficient government that ran well enough to support each group. However when developing the
population of Pennsylvania, Penn did something that was extremely uncommon at the time he
invited extremely ethnically diverse groups to live in harmony. It was hard to predict how critical

being a Quaker, a believer is to follow out the light inside of them in whatever way they see fit.
This is a major stepping stone that created the freedom of religion in Pennsylvania. When
forming the government and laws, Penn abided by his beliefs and created a law that called for
religious tolerance, and invited persecuted groups from Europe over to the colony. However only
those who believe in God (mainly Christians) could vote and hold official positions. None the
less, a countless number of people came over to participate in the social and economic affairs in

Solution And Responding Alternative Dispute Resolution
Reporting and Responding
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is defined by the National Alternative Dispute Resolution
Advisory Council (NADRAC) as an umbrella term for processes, other than judicial determination,
in which an impartial person assists those in a dispute to resolve the issues between them . There
are six key processes involved in ADR, one of which is mediation. Mediation is one of the most

Community Service As Punishment
Community service constitute an apologetic reparation that the person is now required to make
to the community what he has wronged. The Indian Penal Code was the enacted in 1860 by
virtue of the classic legal draftsmanship of Lord Macaulay. If there would have been a concept of
community service prevalent at that time then the authors are sure that there would have been no
need to urge the inclusion of the same in the Indian Penal Code. But since this exclusion by
Macaulay is because of no fault of his it is our duty to incorporate such to meet the demands of
the time and to make the IPC a living social document. Section 53 of the IPC [2] provides for the
various types of punishments. But these are old and do not meet the exigencies of the... Show more

Rajya Sabha but due to the proclamation of emergency it could not be passed in the Lok Sabha and

community service in Indian Penal system. [27] Even the Malimath Committee and others [28]
recommended community service as mode of punishment. [29]
Community Service Scheme has also been started in one state i.e. Gujarat and it is an alternate for
offences under the Bombay Prohibition Act. Another state i.e. Andhra Pradesh (Prisonis a state

This legislation is now pending with the Union Government for their concurrence. [31]
Cases and pronouncements
We have instances where the court has ordered the offender to do community service in lieu of the
offence that he has committed. The Delhi High Court asked two businessmen to perform
community service with a voluntary organisation for a year as punishment for firing three shots at
their friend for fun. Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, while quashing a first information report (FIR)
against the two businessmen Monday, asked Delhi Police not to return their gun for a year. [32]

In my term paper, I discussed how stress affects the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical

Case Study Honesty Testing At The Carter Cleaning Company
Introduction Career planning is the process in which somebody becomes conscious of their skills

expensive and since Jennifer has a small business than these tests are a bit out of her league. Once
in a while she can use those tests, but is not something that can be done every time she wants to

the ones that are not. With these types of tests Jennifer can differentiate which individuals are

Compare And Contrast The American And Mary Wigman
Isadora Duncan and Mary Wigman both started with the same idea of dancing, and how they should
incorporate human movement instead of ballet that was more unnatural to the body. Even though
they had a similar thought about modern dance, they had one thing that made them very different,
which was their choreography. Duncan pieces were lively and upbeat, and Wigmans were dark and
mysterious. They both approached modern dancethrough a different eye. Even if they lived in two
different parts of the world, The American, as represented by Isadora Duncan, and the German, as
represented by Mary Wigman, (Cass 247), the world would then get two different choreographers
that were evolving at the same time in history, which impacted the dance history.... Show more

Duncan was more for students and anyone around her to make their own movements, she didn t
really want to make up her own technique but she wanted dancers to be creative and find what
they found beautiful. So the way she would do her choreography would depend on how she was
feeling which led her dancing more of an expressed dance form. I guess you can see Duncan s
approach in what she wanted, was to see the dancer of the future. Although, she didn t have any
recorded choreography it was said that after the loss of her children her dances became sad and
not as impressive. But if I have to answer how Duncan approached her own choreography I
would say, to be free and to dance what one feels. Like mentioned by Irma Duncan in the book
by The Technique of Isadora Duncan, Isadora Duncan has said, that her dance was not of the
theater, but an expression of life, and that she did not train the pupils of her school for the stage,
(ix). Wigman, also believed that expression was the key to make a good choreography but
Wigmans pieces where more stable and concrete. Interested in the relationship between human
being and cosmic forces, she describes her creative experience as the transformation into movement
of the invisible forces that give her life. The dancer is a medium for her; dance functions as a

The American Automobile And The Foreign Car Manufacturers
What is business ethics? It is formally defined as the critical, structured examination of how people
institutions should behave in the world of commerce. Specifically, it examines self interest and
profits, versus moral values and ethics. The Ford Pinto was a new stylish car, which gave Ford an
ultimatum.
Save money or save lives. In this paper I will explain the ethical problems with the Ford Pinto and
why it s imperative for corporations to incorporate ethics into their companies.
The American automobile and the foreign car manufacturers were battling in 1960 70s attempting
to create a more efficient car at bargain prices. Another problem that was haunting the industry
was the gas consumption, which, in the period of the Arab oil embargo in 1970s, became a really
critical issue. The survival for the American automobile industry was in designing and building of
subcompact cars, which would be affordable for masses, consuming as less gas as possible. Such
car for the Ford Motor Company became Ford Pinto that was presented to public in September of
1970.
Since competition between domestic automobile manufacturers was very intense, the Ford Motors
Company decided to build Ford Pinto in only 25 month versus normal 43 months. The General
Manager of Ford Pinto project, Lee Iacocca, was so obsessed with the idea of creating an
affordable car and winning the market, that he specifically set a certain goal for Ford Pinto

leadership has shifted from the typical roles as leaders of women in missionary societies and
groups to congregational leaders like pastoral ministry and Christian education. In the current paper,
the focus is on the problems single women minister, pastor, preacher faces with dating or being in a

African Americanchurches, encumbrances to effective women s leadership, approaches to solving
the obstacles, notable contributions of African American women and lastly signs of hope and

African American women represent a significant proportion of congregation in most African
American churches. African American women make up about 66 88 percent majority in African
American churches though they are not well represented in the church leadership. The greatest
variation that can be observed in women s leadership is in the pastoral category. The situation is
worse for unmarried women who want to be church ministers, pastor or preacher but it becomes
complicated for women who are in relationships but not yet married. Nonetheless, unmarried
women are still being ordained and appointed as pastors and bishops at a growing rate. One of the

The amount of money made from this harrowing business seems rather quixotic, but this issue
goes on day in and day out. After selling drugs and gun running, trafficking is the third largest
business world wide (Medina, 2007). The criminal running all these trades are very particular as
far as money goes. The price depends on the person; once the girls are brought to me by an
agent, I must pay from $350 to $400 for a virgin girl or $170 for a girl who is no longer a virgin
(Flamm 2003). Criminals place their workers in different ensembles; a virgin is far more costly
than a girl whom has been used. Once a women is purchased for sex, a trafficker can make five to
twenty time her purchase price (Cheung, 2009). These criminals make a lot of money off of this
organization of theirs, but they don t think about the fact that they are turning little girls into

which funds the expansion of international criminal groups, contributes to corruption, and
undermines the rule of law (Flamm, 2003). This all shows what the world is coming to; men will

The 1941 Film, Citizen Kane,
History has rendered a variety of timeless art. The works have included multiple genres, such as
paintings, music, theatre, and photography. Each of the aforementioned genres have attributed to
an additional ageless art form. Film may be identified as an art form that combines multiple
genres to produce classic work. This is specifically revealed by an Orson Wellesmovie. The 1941
film, Citizen Kane, may be considered a classic based on extensive research. Throughout history, the
film is repeatedly rated as one of the greatest films ever produced. Various elements such as
storytelling and technique have contributed to the recognition and acclaim attained by the film.
During the era in which the film was produced, Citizen Kane revolutionized film making and
remains relevant today. Despite the initial response to the film, Citizen Kane is a definite classic.
Two primary themes within the film contribute to the recognition and acclaim generated by Citizen
Kane. The themes are buried beneath the visual muddle of the film itself. First, the theme regarding
the disparagement of the private disposition of the municipal figure contribute to the esteem of the
film. (Carringer) Next, the theme regarding the overwhelming force of materialism may be

Compare And Contrast The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner And...
It s easy to tell that the ocean is a mysterious and isolating place from all of the tragic tales we
hear from sailors both real and fictional. Samuel Taylor Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient
Mariner and an anonymous author s The Seafarer are quite similar in that they both revolve around
said tragic tales told by sailors. However, there seem to be more commonalities between their
themes, tones, and messages rather than their seaward bound settings. But before we can discuss
these similar settings and deeper themes, we have to tackle their origins.
The poems histories will be kept brief as they are not the focus of the paper; so, put simply, The
Rime of the Ancient Mariner was written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and was published in 1798
in a collaborative volume entitled Lyrical Ballads ( Samuel Taylor Coleridge ). For further
historical context, it was during this year that the US Navy was originally formed ( Historical
Events in 1798 ). And while the origin of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is pretty
straightforward, that of The Seafarer is more complicated. Originally it was anonymously
included in a tenth century text called The Exeter Book (Shmoop Editorial Team), but the more
well known version is its reinterpretation by Ezra Pound, published in 1912 ( The Seafarer: RPO
). However, since Pound changed many of the original details and themes ( The Seafarer: RPO ),
we re going to be looking at an English translation of the original poem. Again, for further historical
context, it was during the tenth century that the Chinese started making paper money, the
Byzantine empire underwent a revival, and the feudal knight was popularized ( 10th century
Oxford Reference ). Despite both poems being published nearly 800 years apart, they share a great
many similarities. So without further ado, let s delve into the surface similarities between the two
poems.
Now, when it comes to technical similarities between the two poems (i.e. rhyme scheme and meter),
there aren t any, so instead of stating all they don t have in common, we ll just move straight on to
the similarities in their subject matter. Of course, the most glaring similarity between the two is that
they both feature a gloomy sailor

Software Is Tightly Integrated With The Matlab Environment
Simulink software is tightly integrated with the MATLAB environment. It requires MATLAB to

Define model inputs.
Store model outputs for analysis and visualization.
Perform functions within a model, through integrated calls to MATLAB operators and functions
Concept of signal and logic flow:

continous and descrete systems
Non linear operators:
A main advantage of using tools such as Simulink is the ability to simulate non linear systems and
arrive at results without having to solve analytically. It is very difficult to arrive at an analytical
solution for a system having non linearities such as saturation, signup function, limited slew rates
etc. In Simulation, since systems are analyzed using iterations, non linearities are not a hindrance.
One such could be a saturation block, to indicate a physical limitation on a parameter, such as a

ABSTRACT
Invasive procedures including chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis in sex linked diseases
increase the risk of fetal loss. Therefore, Noninvasive fetal gender determination using cell free
fetal DNA (cffDNA) in maternal plasma may be promising. Fifty pregnant women with
gestational age between sixth to tenth weeks were included. cffDNA were extracted from
maternal plasma and amplified by real time PCR and conventional PCR for detection of SRY,
DYS14 and DAZ genes as specific genetic markers for male bearing pregnancies. In general,
sensitivity and specificity of real time PCR was better than conventional PCR. However,
sensitivity of DYS14 gene and specificity of SRY gene by real time PCR was equal to those of
conventional PCR. Sensitivity of DYS14 gene was the highest and sensitivity of SRY gene was the
lowest. However, combination of the three Y chromosome sequences in the diagnosis increased the
test accuracy, which is suitable for clinical application.

Mostly they focused their attention on teaching married couples about birth control and dispensing
contraceptives, but some programs took more coercive approaches. China imposed a limit of one

Large societies obviously consume more supplies than small ones, but depletion patterns and
technology selections may report for more environmental harms than pure digits of people. The
U.S. population is about one fourth as large as that of China or India, but the United States
currently uses far more energy because Americans are wealthier and use their prosperity to buy
energy intensive goods like automobiles and electronics (Arrow et al, 1995). However, China and
India are developing and becoming more prosperous, so their ecological effects will increase
because of both population expansion and consumption levels in the next several years. As income
increases and technologies diffuse through society, purchasers start to value environmental quality
more greatly and become more able to pay for it.

One of the most important relationships that are suffering, is that between the parents and their

Such an understanding is critical given that a warm, loving relationship with parents, along with
experiencing effective parenting are key factors in both protecting adolescents from developing
behavioral difficulties and for promoting their positive development (QTD in Moawad et al).
Ultimately, parents need to be able to give the children the ...warm, loving relationship... (QTD in

from a genetic disease. Rochen never remarried and visited Lira s grave every year on the 16th
of February. If he had been so blunt to ask his idol for an autograph on a day as inauspicious as
today, who knew how bad Rochen s opinion of him would be? Swallowing, the young researcher
nodded and turned back, his footsteps quickening as he accompanied Miwa toward their
supervisor s room. Rochen Rochwell whistled softly as he walked out of Everworld Headquarters.
He reached into his pocket and pressed a button. The button read his fingerprints and issued a quiet
beep of confirmation. Seconds later, a sleek gray car

The Invention of Computer and Its Significance in Human...
The Invention of Computer and its Significance in Human History
Abstract: In human history, there are lots of great inventions which made great effects to our life;
we can even say, they dominated the development of human culture. This paper would say
something about an effective invention which is fast developing and have the greatest influence on
human society computer and its history and significance. The writer believes, before people see
computer as a convenient and useful tool even can t leave it, it s necessary to review its history of
development and knowing its significance would make a good effect to the development in the
future.

Hopper would revise this concept over the next twenty years and her ideas would become an
integral part of all modern computers. CBS uses one of the 46 UNIVAC computers produced to
predict the outcome of the 1952 Presidential Election. They do not air the prediction for 3 hours
because they do not trust the machine.
IBM introduces the 701 the following year. It is the first commercially successful computer. In
1956 FORTRAN is introduced(proposed 1954, it takes nearly 3 years to develop the compiler). Two
additional languages, LISP and COBOL, are added in 1957 and 1958. Other early languages
include ALGOL and BASIC. Although never widely used, ALGOL is the basis for many of today
s languages.
With the introduction of Control Data s CDC1604 in 1958, the first transistor powered computer,
a new age dawns. Brilliant scientist Seymour Cray heads the development team. This year
integrated circuits are introduced by two men, Jack Kilby and John Noyce, working independently.
The second network is developed at MIT. Over the next three years computers begin affecting the
day to day lives of most Americans. The addition of MICR characters at the bottom of checks is
common.
In 1961 Fairchild Semiconductor introduces the integrated circuit. Within ten years all computers
use these instead of the transistor. Formally building sized computers are now room sized, and are

American President Pros And Cons
I feel that it is extremely important to show the way the president has been behaving or acting
because it is concerning how he likes to talk about banning Muslims from the seven countries
like Syria, Iran, Yemen, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Iraq. There was also a time where a judge
called Gonzalo Curiel, was presiding over a case against Trump University, he went to say that
He s a Mexican, Trump told CNN. We re building a wall between here and Mexico. The answer
is, he is giving us very unfair rulings, rulings that people can t even believe. Claiming that a
person can t do their job because of their race is sort of like the textbook definition of a racist
comment, House Speaker Ryan said, though he clearly endorsed Trump. When asked by CNN s
Jake Tapper if he would condemn Duke and say he didn t want a vote from him or any other white
supremacists, Trump claimed that he didn t know anything... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Events like Charlottesville attack are where we need to hear from the president himself, but
during this time, we had a president who could not send the right message or tone to the
American people and to the people of Charlottesville, instead he supported groups like Neo Nazi s
and the White Supremacists who were also involved in the march along with other peaceful
protesters In August 11 12th, there was a rally going on in Charlottesville, Virginia Unite the Rally
was to oppose the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee from Emancipation Park, and there were
protesters that were involved in the rally from white supremacists, white nationalists, Neo

The Federal Policy On Disaster Relief And Emergency...
One topic that is in the cross fire on debates all the time is the federal policy on disaster relief,
and disaster preparedness. The federal government has programs put into place to help the
victims of natural disasters, such as hurricanes and tornados. Some of these disaster relief
programs are The Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (the Stafford
Act), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and The Red Cross. These programs have many
policies in place, but some feel that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done to improve
these policies. The Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act is mainly
focused on response. The government was nowhere near prepared in 2005 when hurricane Katrina
struck, then shortly followed by hurricane Rita. In 2005, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita destroyed
thousands of homes and displaced over 1 million people. In light of widespread Congressional and
public interest in U.S. agencies performance in assisting hurricane victims, GAO initiated work
under the Comptroller General s authority to examine federal housing assistance. (GAO Reports.
2007.) The Department of Homeland Security is responsible for consolidating existing federal
government response plans into a single, coordinated national response plan. (GAO Reports.
2007.) The Homeland Security Act of 2002 allows them to handle all sorts of disasters from natural
disasters to terrorist attacks. DHS also Operates the Federal

Sally Mar Research Paper
On January 31, 2001 Logan Marr was found dead in an unfinished basement, yards of duct tape
surrounding her, and a foster mother claiming that she just fell and hit her head. Sally Schofield,
a respected caseworker at Maine s Department of Health and Human Services, had taken Logan in
2000. By 2001, 5 year old Logan would be dead. I just want Sally Schofield out of my life forever,
Logan s mother says, 16 years later, She s ruined my children s lives and mine. She took an
innocent child from this world for no reason. Logan s death was a tragedy that highlighted the
problems in Maine s child welfare systems. The mistakes that were made were unforgivable, but a

Peters did neither. By January, Sally had quit her job as a caseworker, and DHS decided to start
putting the children up for adoption. Discouraged, Christy wrote the girls a letter she was going
to give them on her next visit, January 31, 2001. Due to a snowstorm, the visit was canceled.
That night, Logan died in Sally s basement. According to Sally, Logan had one of her tantrums
that afternoon. Sally asked Logan if she needed to scream, and Logan said yes. She brought her
to the basement and put her in a highchair. She left her there for an hour, periodically checking on
her. When she came back to check after starting dinner, she found Logan on the floor, motionless,
and not breathing. She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. That night, the
police came to interview. Sally says nothing was restraining Logan and she must ve fallen and hit
her head. After a search of the house, the police found evidence that raised doubts. In a second
search, detectives found 40 feet of duct tape with hair on it. Police tests revealed that the tape had
been looped repeatedly around Marr s head and body, and across her mouth. An autopsy revealed
that Logan died from asphyxiation and not blunt force trauma to her

Impressionism By Mary Cassatt
Impressionism
Impressionism by definition is: a style or movement in painting originating in France
in the 1860s, characterized by a concern with depicting the visual impression of the
moment, especially in terms of the shifting effect of light and color. But I think that
impressionism gives off more of a feeling, and I think that it sets a mood. I think that
impressionist paintings all have a flow to them and they are very elegant and classy.
The impressionist era started in the 1860s, and ended in the 1880s. It developed in
Paris, and spread throughout Europe. At the time, paintings of still life s and landscapes
were not valued. So impressionist paintings brought about a very new change in the art
world. But in the early 1860s, more and more artists began to discover their interests in
impressionist paintings. These artists brought us the incredible pieces of impressionist
art we have today.
One of the artist s I would like to address is Mary Cassatt. She was born on May, 22,
1844 in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania, United States. She was born into an upper
middle class family, that was well educated, and had a profound influence on her. Mary
traveled all over Europe as she grew up. She learned German and French and also had
her first art lessons while she was traveling abroad. It is most likely that her first
exposure to art was at the Paris World s Fair in 1855. Her family objected to her

Energy Vs. Beauty in Coal Mining Essay
Every day in the United States people turn on a light, use the oven, and watch television. The
energy needed to do these trivial everyday tasks is often taken for granted, yet it is greatly required
at all times. A small percentage of this energy is provided by the burning of coal to produce power.
The removal of coalfor energy has been a long thought out process since the early 1960 s
(Holzman). The removal of coal up until around the 1990 s was all done underground, removing
the coal by using pick axes, mules, and rail cars. During the early and late 1990 s, the extraction of
coal was modernized to mountain top removal (Holzman). Mountain top removal is the process of
blasting the top of a mountain away to retrieve coal from inside the... Show more content on

Mountain top removal often occurs in states such as West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and
Virginia. These states are rich in coal deposits and have many areas where mining may occur. Quite
often, coal companies use huge deposits of coal to make money, but mining these areas have been
damaging to the Appalachian region for decades. Environmental issues have become apparent with
massive flooding, rock slides, water contamination, and sludge impoundment (Community). All of
these have become major issues within communities among the eastern region, because they may
cause a community or environment to lose its significance.
Flooding is caused by the removal of trees and vegetation of an area on a steep grade mountain.
Hence, when this particular area has rainfall, the water has nowhere to go, thus causing a flash
flood. Blasting of a mountain can also cause rock falls to occur. Many strip mining sites are
located near a town or neighborhood, often endangering residents or homes to be struck by
boulders or large amounts of fly rock. Injuries can also be an issue with fly rock. Boulders have
been known to come crashing into houses and causing serious injury and even death. These massive
boulders are pieces that have been blown off by the blasting at the tops of the mountain. Water
contamination takes place around mountain top removal sites and causes runoff that feeds

And The Band Played On
And The Band Played On
By Randy Shilts And the band played on is a true story published in 1987 that illustrates the
AIDS epidemic. The AIDS outbreak started in this book around the 1970 s and is still around in
today s society. Randy Shilts wrote this book in order to show the many errors that occurred and
killed while trying to find what this virus was and how it was spread. Many people during this
time were affected by this virus especially in New York and San Francisco, which is where most of
this story takes place. AIDS which is also known as acquired immune deficiency syndrome is being
spread fast after the first known account discovered by the CDC, and is extremely difficult to
identify. Shilts discusses the many issues that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The CDC had no absolute proof yet that the virus was being spread sexually at the time. The bath
house owners made a lot of revenue in areas like San Francisco which made it highly unlikely for
them to listen to the CDC about the public health issues that surrounded their business. Many bath
house owners cared for only themselves and the money they were making, just like blood banks.
The CDC needed definitive proof showing that this is where the majority of the virus was being
spread before the executive director of public health would shut them down. Even the public
health director was worried about jeopardizing his status if he shut these bath houses without
definitive proof that it was being spread there which could take years to prove. Taking more time
to prove this would cost many more people their lives. In the book Shilts says, some said Ronald
Reagan would be remembered in history books for one thing beyond all else: He was the man who
had let AIDS rage through America, the leader of the government that when challenged to action
had placed politics above the health of the American people. It is easy to put the blame on one
person for a nationwide epidemic, but in the end it was not just president Ronald Reagan that let the
AIDS virus run ramped throughout the nation. Although Regan s promise of a grant to the CDC
never was received, this problem was not just fueled by the president, businesses

  • 2. The I Chose For My Close Reading Assignment Comes From... The pericope I chose for my close reading assignment comes from Revelation chapter 22 verses 1 6. When reading this pericope it quickly obvious the genre is apocalyptic. In the few short verses there is evidence of an apocalyptic genre such as the means of revelation. Verse 5 says, Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal. This pericope is apocalyptic because verse 1 is just one example of the means of revelation. The genre is also apocalyptic because it has examples of determinism. The restoration of the New Jerusalem is history moving forward towards a conclusion. The last evidence of this pericope being apocalyptic literature is the division of history into the Old and New Ages. The entire pericope is about the coming of the New Jerusalem, which is brining the old age to a close. Trying to find the boundaries of the pericope it was slightly difficult, especially when excluding chapter numbers from making the decision. Both chapter 21 and 22 talk about the restoration Godwill do, including the New Jerusalem and heaven. If chapter 22 is depicting the Garden of Edenwill the garden be inside of the New Jerusalem? The start of this pericope begins in verse 1 in chapter 22 because of the slight shift that takes place. The shift is in chapter 21 the restoration was clear that it was the New Jerusalem. Would John, the author, chunk the pericope as both chapter 21 and chapter 22:1 5? While the chosen pericope starts talking about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sam Spade the main character is a detective that is good at his job. Throughout the film Spade seems to know what to do and what to say in all scenarios. He is man that can defend himself without a gun. Throughout the film he seems to be the good guy but at times seems to be playing the other side is well. This is shown when he is friends with one of the deputies and then at the same time has meetings with Gutman a well known wealthy criminal. It makes the viewer think about if Spade is really a good guy because of the lack of emotion that he shows after losing his partner. Also when he is meeting with Gutman it seems as if he is just as interested in getting the falcon because of the money he want s for helping Gutman and the others get it. Spade is made to look like a man that has the upper hand and power. This is shown when the two cops walk right into his bedroom and they know him but accuse him of Miles Archer s murderer. Spade is able to convince them to look elsewhere to find Archer s murderer. Even when Spade is at Gutman s hotel room and Gutman is very powerful the viewer anticipates Spade coming out on top when it came to business. When Spade was trying to figure out what happened he could sense Brigid O Shaughnessy wasn t telling the truth. Scenarios like this portrayed Spade as a dominant man. • 4. Comparing Emotion In As She s Walking Away And If I Told You Country music is generally simple in form and harmony, typified by romantic or melancholy ballads, with lyrics that tell a memorable story. Songs can tell similar stories of internal struggle as to whether or not to speak from the heart, but can also differ completely in use of emotion. Through imagery and repetition, the listener can relate to the main message and have a deeper understanding of the theme. Despite their emotional and lyrical differences, As She s Walking Away by Zac Brown Band and If I Told You by Darius Rucker, both songs portray a lack of courage and similar insecurities in asking the question, What if? . In both songs, the repetition of the lyrics draws the listener s attention to particular words and phrases. In the melancholy ballad, If I Told You, Rucker repeats the lines, If I told you all the stupid things I ve done, I d blamed on being young, but I was old enough to know, I know , If I told you the mess I can be when there s no one there to see and could you look the other way cause you love me anyway . The soulful singer is emphasizing with raw emotions, the fear of baring one s soul to the person they love and unknowing how they will react to it. However, systematic errors affected the experiment the most. The most significant systematic error was reading off the amount of potassium manganate (VII) used in the titration from the burette. Due to the deep purple colour of the solution, it was very difficult to read the increments. For both the initial and final burette readings, readings might have been taken off the top of the meniscus, causing an overestimation of potassium manganate (VII) needed and thus, the experimental mass of FeSO4 in one tablet was larger than the manufacturer s claim of 300mg in one tablet. Additionally, the dissolving method of the iron tablets was a major systematic error. Because we were just using a glass rod to crush and stir the iron tablets and because of the limited time spent on the procedure, the iron tablets may not have been completely dissolved in the water. Hence, there would be less Fe2+ ions in the iron solution and thus, less potassium manganate (VII) would be needed to reach the end point. Some Fe2+ ions might also have been lost on the filter paper or the beaker whilst transferring the solution, thus causing less potassium manganate to reach the end point and resulting in inaccurate measurements and calculations. The statute states a minor is bound not only for reasonable value of necessaries but also by his contracts, unless he disaffirms them. Utah Code Ann. В§ 15 2 2 (1953). The Utah court further explains this legislation in Harvey v. • 11. Discourse Analysis In Carl Sanburg s Grass When analyzing a poem, it is important to understand the language that is being used. When applying discourse theory to a poem, it is important to analyze the language beyond the sentence itself. Discourse analysis studies the natural use of language, rather than the invented examples. The main objective of discourse analysis is to create a better understanding of how language is used through textual features and what effects it has on that investment. Texts often require these features that enables the reader to understand the motivation of that author. In his poem, Grass, Carl Sanburg utilizes verbs, proper nouns, and nouns to efficiently erase the signs of the past. In the poem, Grass, the author uses many linguistic features throughout the poem, verbs being one of them. Verbs are defined as words that are used to describe an action or a state, forming the main objective of the sentence. Sanburg uses verbs consistently throughout his poem to describe the actions in the poem. The first sentence of the poem states, Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and Waterloo (Sanburg). He uses the wordpile, which can be inferred as a nounor a verb, which in this sentence is used as a verb. The verb pile can infer two different meanings, one defined as placing things one on top of another whereas the second meaning defines the entry of a large group in a disorganized manner. Some inorganic cyanide compounds such as sodium cyanide (NaCN) and potassium cyanide (KCN) are groups of compounds having negatively charged polyatomic cyanide ions (CN ). This compound is a salt of a highly toxic hydrocyanic acid. Several types of organic cyanides are usually called nitriles, in which the CN group is covalently bonded to a carbon group, such as methyl (CH3) dimethyl cyanide (acetonitrile). Since nitrile compounds do not release free cyanide ions, they are generally less toxic, or in the case of insoluble polymers such as acrylic fibers, essentially ... Nickel in the nickel (II) state is more stable than nickel (0), nickel (I), nickel (III) and nickel (IV). Nickel (I) and nickel (0) are unstable because they are easily oxidized, nickel (III) is easily reduced to nickel (II) and nickel (IV) is rare. Nickel (II) forms a large number of complexes with coordination numbers 6, 5, and 4, which have all major types of structures, namely octahedral, bipiramidal trigonal, pyramidal squares, tetrahedral, and square (Cotton and Wilkinson, 2009). Most nickel complexes adopt octahedron geometry structures, adopt only slightly the geometry of tetrahedron and square. The studies discuss the Mozart Effect, which says that listening to Mozart s music can increase a child s ability for spatial reasoning, as well as help brain development. The studies also cite the fact that many of history s most intelligent men, like Albert Einstein and Benjamin Franklin, played one or more musical instruments. These studies are wrong. Students should not be required to learn an instrument, because it does not help them perform better in school. This fact was proven by a study done by Harvard researchers. The study was relatively simple. The researchers gathered together 29 parents and their four year olds. The children were then asked to complete a vocabulary test. After the test was completed, the children were randomly split up into two separate groups. One group was designated to take musiclessons for a year, while the other took visual art lessons for a year. When the year was up, the children were tested on cognition, vocabulary, math, and spatial tasks. These tests were chosen because they are more representative of intelligencethan a simple IQ test. • 18. Science-Fiction Films During The 1950 s The science fiction film genre serves as an excellent medium for examining shifting power structures, social paranoia and Cold War politics during the 1950s. A number of films released during this period, including: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), Them (1954) and Attack of the 50ft Woman (1958), are particularly symptomatic of the social and political atmosphere of the time. These films navigate not only narrative based issues such as the threat of aliens and science experiments gone wrong; but also wider issues of the time, such as the Cold War, changes in the US filmindustry, urbanisation, politics, the growing power of women and most significantly, social concern about nuclear energy. Before analysing individual science fiction films from the 1950s, it is important to gain a clear understanding of the social, cultural and political background against which these films were set. Paranoia is a term frequently used to describe an acute, anxiety dominated medical condition (Paranoia, 2009), however in the context of 1950 s America, this term can be used more accurately to describe the general, delusionary mood of the nation. The first important event that influenced a paranoiac filmmaking atmosphere was the Cold War. Along with social and emotional development, I will not be able to have the adequate amount of time to spend with family and friends due to my job and that may lead to anxiety and depression that could also affect my current occupation. Lastly, I think my cognitive development will be greatly affected because of the amount of pressure that will be put upon me to complete my college degree and seek an occupation will mentally drain me and that can affect my sleeping patterns and result in sleep deprivation. Several ways that I can do to help promote a successful transition to the next stage of development is to take advantage of San Jose State University s campus resources, like the Student Wellness Center that provide various ... Case Study Honesty Testing At The Carter Cleaning Company Introduction Career planning is the process in which somebody becomes conscious of their skills (knowledge, motivations, and interests) or other characteristics to achieve a definite goal. In this particularly case study Honesty Testing at the Carter Cleaning Company, the main concern is stealing. • 25. Compare And Contrast The American And Mary Wigman Isadora Duncan and Mary Wigman both started with the same idea of dancing, and how they should incorporate human movement instead of ballet that was more unnatural to the body. Even though they had a similar thought about modern dance, they had one thing that made them very different, which was their choreography. Duncan pieces were lively and upbeat, and Wigmans were dark and mysterious. They both approached modern dancethrough a different eye. Even if they lived in two different parts of the world, The American, as represented by Isadora Duncan, and the German, as represented by Mary Wigman, (Cass 247), the world would then get two different choreographers that were evolving at the same time in history, which impacted the dance history.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Duncan was more for students and anyone around her to make their own movements, she didn t really want to make up her own technique but she wanted dancers to be creative and find what they found beautiful. So the way she would do her choreography would depend on how she was feeling which led her dancing more of an expressed dance form. I guess you can see Duncan s approach in what she wanted, was to see the dancer of the future. Although, she didn t have any recorded choreography it was said that after the loss of her children her dances became sad and not as impressive. But if I have to answer how Duncan approached her own choreography I would say, to be free and to dance what one feels. Like mentioned by Irma Duncan in the book by The Technique of Isadora Duncan, Isadora Duncan has said, that her dance was not of the theater, but an expression of life, and that she did not train the pupils of her school for the stage, (ix). Wigman, also believed that expression was the key to make a good choreography but Wigmans pieces where more stable and concrete. Interested in the relationship between human being and cosmic forces, she describes her creative experience as the transformation into movement of the invisible forces that give her life. It is formally defined as the critical, structured examination of how people institutions should behave in the world of commerce. Specifically, it examines self interest and profits, versus moral values and ethics. The Ford Pinto was a new stylish car, which gave Ford an ultimatum. Save money or save lives. In this paper I will explain the ethical problems with the Ford Pinto and why it s imperative for corporations to incorporate ethics into their companies. The American automobile and the foreign car manufacturers were battling in 1960 70s attempting to create a more efficient car at bargain prices. Another problem that was haunting the industry was the gas consumption, which, in the period of the Arab oil embargo in 1970s, became a really critical issue. The survival for the American automobile industry was in designing and building of subcompact cars, which would be affordable for masses, consuming as less gas as possible. Such car for the Ford Motor Company became Ford Pinto that was presented to public in September of 1970. Since competition between domestic automobile manufacturers was very intense, the Ford Motors Company decided to build Ford Pinto in only 25 month versus normal 43 months. It s easy to tell that the ocean is a mysterious and isolating place from all of the tragic tales we hear from sailors both real and fictional. Samuel Taylor Coleridge s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and an anonymous author s The Seafarer are quite similar in that they both revolve around said tragic tales told by sailors. However, there seem to be more commonalities between their themes, tones, and messages rather than their seaward bound settings. But before we can discuss these similar settings and deeper themes, we have to tackle their origins. The poems histories will be kept brief as they are not the focus of the paper; so, put simply, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner was written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge and was published in 1798 in a collaborative volume entitled Lyrical Ballads ( Samuel Taylor Coleridge ). For further historical context, it was during this year that the US Navy was originally formed ( Historical Events in 1798 ). And while the origin of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is pretty straightforward, that of The Seafarer is more complicated. Originally it was anonymously included in a tenth century text called The Exeter Book (Shmoop Editorial Team), but the more well known version is its reinterpretation by Ezra Pound, published in 1912 ( The Seafarer: RPO ). However, since Pound changed many of the original details and themes ( The Seafarer: RPO ), we re going to be looking at an English translation of the original poem. Again, for further historical context, it was during the tenth century that the Chinese started making paper money, the Byzantine empire underwent a revival, and the feudal knight was popularized ( 10th century Oxford Reference ). Despite both poems being published nearly 800 years apart, they share a great many similarities. So without further ado, let s delve into the surface similarities between the two poems. Now, when it comes to technical similarities between the two poems (i.e. rhyme scheme and meter), there aren t any, so instead of stating all they don t have in common, we ll just move straight on to the similarities in their subject matter. Therefore, Noninvasive fetal gender determination using cell free fetal DNA (cffDNA) in maternal plasma may be promising. Fifty pregnant women with gestational age between sixth to tenth weeks were included. cffDNA were extracted from maternal plasma and amplified by real time PCR and conventional PCR for detection of SRY, DYS14 and DAZ genes as specific genetic markers for male bearing pregnancies. In general, sensitivity and specificity of real time PCR was better than conventional PCR. However, sensitivity of DYS14 gene and specificity of SRY gene by real time PCR was equal to those of conventional PCR. Sensitivity of DYS14 gene was the highest and sensitivity of SRY gene was the lowest. According to Sally, Logan had one of her tantrums that afternoon. Sally asked Logan if she needed to scream, and Logan said yes. She brought her to the basement and put her in a highchair. She left her there for an hour, periodically checking on her. When she came back to check after starting dinner, she found Logan on the floor, motionless, and not breathing. She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. That night, the police came to interview. Sally says nothing was restraining Logan and she must ve fallen and hit her head. After a search of the house, the police found evidence that raised doubts. In a second search, detectives found 40 feet of duct tape with hair on it. • 44. Impressionism By Mary Cassatt Impressionism Impressionism by definition is: a style or movement in painting originating in France in the 1860s, characterized by a concern with depicting the visual impression of the moment, especially in terms of the shifting effect of light and color. But I think that impressionism gives off more of a feeling, and I think that it sets a mood. I think that impressionist paintings all have a flow to them and they are very elegant and classy. The impressionist era started in the 1860s, and ended in the 1880s. It developed in Paris, and spread throughout Europe. At the time, paintings of still life s and landscapes were not valued. So impressionist paintings brought about a very new change in the art world. But in the early 1860s, more and more artists began to discover their interests in impressionist paintings. These artists brought us the incredible pieces of impressionist art we have today. One of the artist s I would like to address is Mary Cassatt. She was born on May, 22, 1844 in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania, United States. She was born into an upper middle class family, that was well educated, and had a profound influence on her. Mary traveled all over Europe as she grew up. She learned German and French and also had her first art lessons while she was traveling abroad. It is most likely that her first exposure to art was at the Paris World s Fair in 1855. Her family objected to her becoming a professional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Energy Vs. Beauty in Coal Mining Essay Every day in the United States people turn on a light, use the oven, and watch television. The energy needed to do these trivial everyday tasks is often taken for granted, yet it is greatly required at all times. A small percentage of this energy is provided by the burning of coal to produce power. The removal of coalfor energy has been a long thought out process since the early 1960 s (Holzman). The removal of coal up until around the 1990 s was all done underground, removing the coal by using pick axes, mules, and rail cars. During the early and late 1990 s, the extraction of coal was modernized to mountain top removal (Holzman). Mountain top removal is the process of blasting the top of a mountain away to retrieve coal from inside the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mountain top removal often occurs in states such as West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia. These states are rich in coal deposits and have many areas where mining may occur. Quite often, coal companies use huge deposits of coal to make money, but mining these areas have been damaging to the Appalachian region for decades. Environmental issues have become apparent with massive flooding, rock slides, water contamination, and sludge impoundment (Community). All of these have become major issues within communities among the eastern region, because they may cause a community or environment to lose its significance. Flooding is caused by the removal of trees and vegetation of an area on a steep grade mountain. Hence, when this particular area has rainfall, the water has nowhere to go, thus causing a flash flood. Blasting of a mountain can also cause rock falls to occur. Many strip mining sites are located near a town or neighborhood, often endangering residents or homes to be struck by boulders or large amounts of fly rock. Injuries can also be an issue with fly rock. Boulders have been known to come crashing into houses and causing serious injury and even death. These massive boulders are pieces that have been blown off by the blasting at the tops of the mountain. Water contamination takes place around mountain top removal sites and causes runoff that feeds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. And The Band Played On And The Band Played On By Randy Shilts And the band played on is a true story published in 1987 that illustrates the AIDS epidemic. The AIDS outbreak started in this book around the 1970 s and is still around in today s society. Randy Shilts wrote this book in order to show the many errors that occurred and killed while trying to find what this virus was and how it was spread. Many people during this time were affected by this virus especially in New York and San Francisco, which is where most of this story takes place. AIDS which is also known as acquired immune deficiency syndrome is being spread fast after the first known account discovered by the CDC, and is extremely difficult to identify. Shilts discusses the many issues that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The CDC had no absolute proof yet that the virus was being spread sexually at the time. The bath house owners made a lot of revenue in areas like San Francisco which made it highly unlikely for them to listen to the CDC about the public health issues that surrounded their business. Many bath house owners cared for only themselves and the money they were making, just like blood banks. The CDC needed definitive proof showing that this is where the majority of the virus was being spread before the executive director of public health would shut them down. Even the public health director was worried about jeopardizing his status if he shut these bath houses without definitive proof that it was being spread there which could take years to prove. Taking more time to prove this would cost many more people their lives. In the book Shilts says, some said Ronald Reagan would be remembered in history books for one thing beyond all else: He was the man who had let AIDS rage through America, the leader of the government that when challenged to action had placed politics above the health of the American people. It is easy to put the blame on one person for a nationwide epidemic, but in the end it was not just president Ronald Reagan that let the AIDS virus run ramped throughout the nation. Although Regan s promise of a grant to the CDC never was received, this problem was not just fueled by the president, businesses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
