Project Evaluation And Selection Of Interconnected Projects
As traffic increases and links become congested, people may suffer delays and long travel time for
their daily trips. Planners may decide to improve this situation for people in the area. One of the
options for improving the conditions of traveling in the congested area is link expansion. Link
expansion projects in transportation networks are almost always interdependent. When capacity of one
link in a network changes it affects the flow of other links, and may shift bottle necks elsewhere
throughout the network. In other words with respect to this expansion in one link, flow in other links
may increase or decrease due to interdependency among them. So finding a sequence for a set of
improvement projects needs consideration of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Wang and Schonfeld. 2005) Along the same lines, simulation based genetic search can be time
consuming but with the advent of new technology and higher speed Processors, this problem is
becoming less significant. Existing Studies mainly focuses on selecting and scheduling of projects
with the assumption of being independent. There are two approaches which are commonly used for
solving project selection and sequencing. The first approach is integer programming (Weingartner
1966; Cochran et al. 1971; Clark et al. 1984; Johnson et al. 1985) and the second one is dynamic
programming (Weingartner 1966; Nemhauser and Ullman 1969; Morin and Esogbue 1971;
Erlenkotter 1973; Morin 1974). [2] The first defect of these approaches is the difficulty of capturing
the interdependencies among projects, and the second one is the inefficiency or even the infeasibility
of the results in the case of responding to larger problems. Martinelli (1993) proposed a heuristic
method for selecting and scheduling interdependent waterway investment projects. The results of this
method are based on an evaluation to compare various combinations of project implementation over a
time period. This method begins by establishing an initial sequence based on an independent
evaluation. Then the initial solution is adjusted by using a heuristic which performs a swap (or swaps)
in the sequence. This is done by plotting system cost

Imperialism Dbq
Did you know the word imperialism is derived from the Latin verb imperare , which means to
command and from the Roman concept of imperium (expansion). Imperialism was introduced in 1870
for the purpose of arranging footholds and trading posts on the coasts of Africa and China, exploring
the New World, and settling down colonies in North and South America, before ending in 1914. The
few leading nations were: United States of America, Great Britain, Japan, and Germany; and the prime
developing nations were: Africa and China. With the background of imperialism, we still have this
burning question: Was imperialism beneficial to developing nations? The answer is no, because it is
important to realize, developing nations were stripped of their

Australia Soft Drink Market
Cultural Background
The FSANZ phone survey of adolescents and young adults in Australia found that Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islanders were more likely to consume sugar sweetened soft drinks compared to other
Australians (72 per cent versus 50 per cent) and consumed significantly larger amounts (249 ml versus
128 ml per day) (Food Standards Australia New Zealand 2003a). The 2004 SPANS survey of children
in Years 6 10 in NSW found consumption of soft drinks to be lowest among students of Asian
background and highest among boys of Southern European and Middle Eastern background (Booth et
al. 2006).
Gender

One of the few studies examining the factors affecting soft drink consumption in adults showed that
consumption of sugar sweetened soft drinks was associated with less restrained and more external
eating, i.e. sensitive to external stimuli such as taste (Elfhag et al. 2007). The study, conducted among
3265 adults in Sweden showed that, in contrast, diet soft drinks were consumed by persons with a
higher body mass index (BMI) (possibly in an attempt to reduce their weight), more restrained eating
and more emotional eating.
Parents as Models
A study in Australia showed that the influence of mothers, either as models of eating behaviours or as
the providers of food, is pervasive (Campbell et al. 2007). Parental soft drink consumption was
positively associated with younger children s intake in two studies (Grimm et al. 2004; Vereecken et
al. 2004). Mother s consumption was found to be an independent predictor for regular soft drink
consumption among children in Belgium (Vereecken et al. 2004). In the US, children aged 8 13 years
whose parents regularly drank soft drinks were nearly three times more likely to consume soft drinks
five or more times per week compared with those whose parents did not regularly drink soft drinks
(Grimm et al. 2004).
A higher frequency of preparing food was found to be related to lower intakes of carbonated
beverages among female adolescents in the US (Larson

Big Jfk Assassination Thesis
The big Kennedy assassination was the assassination of John F. Kennedy who was the United States
President from 1961 to 1963. He was a popular, good looking, and young President which the people
of the United States favored very much. Due to that, America was very shocked as his assassination
was a huge to blow the country. America then quickly put their trust into his Vice President, Lyndon
B. Johnson, and he ended up winning the election of 1964, but he was unfortunately deemed with the
difficult task of solving the problems of the Vietnam War. The assassination of him happened in
Dallas, Texas while he was in an open limousine. Kennedy and his crew arrived an hour before he was

Oswald s wife confirms that the rifle the police found was his, but Oswald himself denies that he did

Force One. When the plane arrived back in Washington D.C. Mrs. Kennedy begins to make funeral
plans, and she refuses to change out of her bloodstained dress, saying that people must know what has
happened to her husband. Later that night at around 7pm, Oswald is charged with Tippit s murder, as
well as Kennedy s near 11:30pm that night. Around 2 days later (Nov. 24, 1963), when police were
transferring Oswald to a more secure county jail, he was shot by Jack Ruby who owned several
clubs/dance halls in Dallas. He was immediately detained, and he said that he only did it because,
Oswald had killed Kennedy, but he was still charged with murder, even though some called him a
hero. A day before Oswald was killed (Nov.23, 1963), Kennedy s casket was placed in the East Room
of the White House, and it stayed under guard for 24 hours. A few days later over 250,000 people,

Jeffery Rosen s The Supreme Court
Jeffery Rosen s novel, The Supreme Court: The Personalities and Rivalries that Defined America
follows the history of the Supreme Court of the United States through both personal and philosophical
rivalries that shaped the transformation of laws and our lives. Rosen shows us the rivalries between
justices and their ideologies and how their ideologies have shaped our laws today. Starting in 1952
with President Harry S Truman and ending fifty four years later with the presidency of George W.
Bush, Rosen takes and shapes the novel through the eyes of the justices. The novel, The Nine: Inside
the Secret World of the Supreme Court by Jeffery Toobin, an acclaimed legal analyst at CNN shows us
a deeper look at the most secret legal body of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the book, Rosen analyzes specific traits of judges such as political parties and
appointment reason and so on. Rosen uses direct quotes from the judges to identify how judges have
to lean away from certain beliefs and lean towards other beliefs for the sake of keeping the country
free and under control. In each section, Rosen compares two justices and obviously favors one over
the other. But, as the author, he does recognize the flaws in his view, and the pros in the opposite view.
Rosen clearly favors justices who promote harmony in the court and create rulings with unanimous
decisions. But, Rosen will always comment on something positive about a judge he does not favor,
and will comment on something negative on the justice he does favor, balancing himself out. Another
key factor that informs the reader about how the law came about to be how it is today is by judicial
temperament. Rosen uses this as a key point while comparing the justices. Judicial Temperament
describes the judge s general attitude towards the law, and other judges. He states, If the pairings of
judicial temperaments in this book suggest anything, it is that courting attention and partisan approval
in the short term is no guarantee of judicial respect in the long term (Rosen). This means that while
comparing and contrasting temperaments that whenever something is decided, it doesn t mean it will

The Non Profit Program Called Teach For America
Based on my personal experience, I could not fully grasp the idea when I first hear about the non
profit program called Teach for America. I am originally from a country where one must spend four
years in institution specially designed for prospect teachers. After four year education, a person finally
qualifies to take notorious teaching certification exam. Not everyone with four year degree in teacher s
university passes the exam. And that is not the end either. After obtain a certification, trainee teacher
must serve minimum one year before really start teach. Encountering the teacher s university itself
requires a high high school GPA and College entrance exam score. Since teacher is considered as a
government worker, all the benefits comes from the government itself, therefore all tuition and even
dormitory are free. After going through all the hardship, a person becomes a teacher and he or she is
certified for rest of the life. I know specific step of each stage of becoming teacher because both of my
parents were teachers and my aunts are currently working as a teacher. With this background, I simply
cannot believe that people are only receiving a five weeks training before actually start teaching
children. I would be surprise if it is five months. However, those who accepted as a Teach for America
only receives an intensive five weeks training and that are all. It is very true that trainees are all from
prestigious schools like Harvard, Yale and many more. The

Variables Of The Working Capital Requirements Essay
Dependent variables
1 working capital requirement ( WCR )
The study observes the determinants of the working capital requirements of an enterprise. Working
Capital Requirements (WCR_TA) were included as a dependent variable, as used by Shulman and
Cox (1985), as a measure of working capital management (cash and equivalents + marketable
securities + inventories + accounts receivables) (accounts payables + other payables). Working capital
requirements are deflated by total assets to control the size effect
2 Cash Conversion Cycle (CCC)
Cash Conversion Cycle (CCC) as a measure of working capital management, where a shorter CCC
represents the aggressiveness of working capital management measured by the following Cash
Conversion Cycle = Inventory days + Accounts Receivables days Accounts Payable day
Independent Variable Measures:
1 Operating cash flows deflated by total assets (OCF_TA) the cash flows generated from the routine
operations of the enterprise and obtained directly from the cash flow statement as well as deflated by
total assets. The high value of this ratio shows that the enterprise main operation generating enough
cash this also decreasing operation risk.
2 Size
The Size ratios generally measure the enterprise dimensions about the age i.e. for how many years
enterprise start business also measuring enterprise size and annual growth this dimensions are very
important because it is affecting the decision related to policy of managing

Assessing The Sat s Aptitude Test
Assessing the SAT s Aptitude in Predicting College Success
The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) is a widely popular method of college admission test. Like many
other admissions test it is used to help colleges select students who will be successful in college. Upon
reading the source material, however, I began to question the legitimacy of this academic test. In the
first article of the source material, titled Can you Make Yourself Smarter , the topic of intelligence
testing was addressed. The article also mentioned more accurate and effective forms of intelligence
testing and the use of intelligence improving games in schools. Upon mentioning schools and effective
ways of measuring intelligence I began to wonder whether tests administered in school, like the SAT,
were effective in what they are designed to do. These tests hold such great bearings on the academic
careers of students I wondered whether the test should be used at all. This lead to the question; should
SAT be used to predict college success? In this paper success will be defined mainly though grade
point average (GPA). While this is not the only way to define success it is one of the most measurable
indicators of success. The first of the two perspectives addressed within this question will be no, the
SAT should not be used. Due to the underwhelming amount of support for the opposing yes argument,
the other perspective will investigate if the SAT will work if changes were made to it.
The SAT should not be

`` Illiterate America `` By Jonathan Kozol
As I come home one afternoon from school, I see my mother with her brows pressed firmly against
each other. I cautiously approach her because I assume she s upset. The closer I get, the easier I can
analyze her face; she abruptly hands me a letter and commands me to read it for her. I read thoroughly
and begin to translate the information from english to spanish. The letter came from the IRS;
informing her about a balance due next week. She, with a softer look thanked me. Her frustrated
attitude quickly disappeared. But, I ask myself today, what if I wasn t there? What if my mother would
ve just put the letter aside due to her incapacity to understand, consequently missing the due date? The
author of Illiterate America , Jonathan Kozol expresses his concern on the issue of illiteracy in
America. Although his book was published in 1985, illiteracy and the examples Kozol provided in his
writing remains relevant to the world we live in today. Kozol s purpose in writing this book was to
bring awareness and expose the flaws America purposely overlooks. In efforts to bring his readers out
of their comfort zones , Kozol successfully uses the strategies of allusion, analogy, and anecdote.
Straight away, Kozol s use of allusion can be detected; he implemented this strategy to give the
audience an opportunity to get out of their safe zone. Questions of literacy, in Socrates belief, must at
length be judged as matters of morality. (pg.149) Kozol places his first allusion at the

Since the mobilization of the Nazi movement in the early 1920 s the idea of a genetically pure Aryan
race was adopted into the German psyche. In the German ideology pure isn t someone that is a

feebleminded, epileptic, schizophrenic, manic depressive, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, deaf,

these people s faite was death. The Nazis did this to purify the Third Reich and make sure that
Germany was truly a pure Aryan nation. Through Nazi laws, Hitler imposed his ideas on sterilization,

Summary Of Why Evolution Is True By Coyne
Why Evolution is True: Book Critique 1 In his book, Why Evolution is True, Jerry A. Coyne discusses
the many forms of evidence that proves the Theory of Evolution. He discusses what evolution is and
debunks many different ideas that people commonly have about evolution. Coyne also explains
through humans, animals, and plants how evolution affects life today. Throughout the whole book, he
compares and contrasts evolution with creationism and intelligent design. Overall, Coyne provides the
proper evidence and sets up a simple, yet convincing reasoning behind evolution. The main points of
the book were presented in a straightforward manner. At the beginning of the book, Coyne thoroughly
explains what evolution is. He explains how evolution is considered a theory in the world, and often
alongside just a... . This shouldn t be so, according to Coyne, because in the science world a theory is
the closest that scientists can get to a fact. After this, he begins to supply evidence that supports
evolution. He starts with fossils, citing the origins or amphibians, birds, and whales. In addition to
these, he cites the remnants of ancestral forms found in humans and animals. He asks the question
why a creator would leave imperfections in a creation, in this case in the form of vestiges and dead
genes, if he wanted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main purpose of the book to give information on evolution and present it in a convincing way. He
did this by laying out all of the information from a variety of sources and places. He also wanted to
compare the belief of creationism and other similar beliefs to evolution. The author used the lack of
evidence as a main reason why these belief systems do not make sense. Although this book was aimed
at those who are skeptical to the Theory of Evolution, the book served as further proof and would
further convince any person who agrees with the evolutionary

common cyber dangers and obtain additional resources from the private sector assets can reduce the
risk of threats against our country. President Obama and his Administration has addressed the major
risk of cybersecurity facing our nation today. The government has executed an extensive variety of

Example Of Piracy Research Paper
Pirates are criminals who steal vessels, people and goods on the sea and coastal areas. Privateers were
privately owned ships that captured sea trade under orders from various governments. Buccaneers
were government sponsored pirate crews who attacked Spanish ships in the Caribbean during the 17th
century. Terms privateers and buccaneers are today both synonyms for piracy. The earliest example of
piracy is recorded in 14th century BC Mediterranean.
First, a pirate attack that significantly endangered any country was pirate attacks on Olympos in 3rd
century BC. Earliest pirates came from first nations who used the ocean for commerce Illyrians,
Tyrrhenians, Greeks, and Romans. A pirate who served as the largest motivation for generations of

The Impact Of The Black Panther Party For Self Defence
The Black Panther Party for Self Defence, later renamed The Black Panther Party was created by
Huey Newton and Bobby Seale in 1966 in Oakland. The purpose of the party was to protect
minorities, primarily African Americans, by patrolling neighborhoods looking for instances of police
brutality. The party was created after the ruling of Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka because
economic and social inequality continued and limited the opportunities African Americans have. This
along with the assassination of Malcolm X in 1965 caused the party to form. One of the most
impactful and memorable acts by the party was in May 1967 when members of the group and Bobby
Seale marched into the California State Legislature in Sacramento, fully armed. They were protecting
the Mulford Act which was a bill that would make it illegal in California to carry weapons in public
places and the party believed it to be a move to impede them from being able to combat police
brutality. But later that same year when Huey Newton was arrested after he exchanged gunfire with
police and an officer was killed they gained their national attention. They moved from being an
Oakland based organization to having chapters in 48 states and had support groups in at least a dozen
countries. They influenced the beliefs and practices of Australian activist and the Vietnamese National
Liberation Front. The Vanguard Party in the Bahamas very closely mirrored the party in their

Helena Maria Viramontes s Under The Feet Of Jesus
The excerpt from the novel Under the feet of Jesus, by Helena Maria Viramontes, shows the
development of Estrella from being angry to understanding what she needed to accomplish to succeed.
Viramontes uses figurative language, selection of detail, and tone to show the changes Estrella s
character goes through to figure out how beneficial it is to know what the letters in the alphabet
looked like in order to be able to read and to be interested in wanting to read.
Viramontes uses figurative language like similes and metaphors to show Estrella s frustration with her
lack of understanding of the world around her her teachers and her understanding of the tools. The
author says, ...all that a jumbled steel inside the box... seemed as confusing and foreign as the alphabet
she could not decipher. (line 5 8). As Estrella looked inside the tool chest she was not able to identify
what the tools were, which caused her to feel anger. Moreover, the author compares Estrella s
confusion of the tools in the tool chest to her understanding of the alphabet that confused her. This was
significant since it showed that just like the secrets she thought were inside the tool chest, Estrella also
felt her teachers were keeping secrets from her. The author says, Estrella hated when things were kept
from her. The teachers in the school did the same, never giving her the information she wanted.
Estrella would ask over and over. So what is this, and point to the diagonal lines written in chalk on

Examples Of Dystopiar In The Giver
Have you heard of Utopia before? It is an imaginary ideal state without any wars and famines which is
similar to the community in The Giver. This community is manipulating everything: people s
marriages, their property and jobs, and even the climate and relief in the state; this seems that
everyone gets their necessities equally without choices. Although this idea can avoid any unfair
between the citizens ostensibly, the book reveals the dark side of it and later turns to a dystopian one.

Social Irony in Connell’s Short Story “the Cage Man”

Social Irony in Connell s Short Story The Cage Man
Irony can be defined as a double significance which arises from the contrast in values associated with
two different point of view (Leech and Short, Style in fiction; 223). The most usual kind is that which
involves a contrast between a point of view stated or implied in some part of the fiction, and the
assumed point of view of the author, and hence of the reader. In the Richard Connell s short story
entitled The Cage Man it is Horace Nimms, the main character of the story, who is involved in
contrast social value; between Horace Nimms point of view and my point of view. What makes this
short story unique is that when in another Connell s short ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the reason of being of S. Cowan, the Efficiency Expert Extraordinary, actually is to
make Horace out of the cage. Cowan took the part in the story as a stimulus for Horace and therefore

place Horace from his mathematical cage to mechanical cage , replacing his position with the previous
elevator man of where he worked at the moment. He makes Horace struggle to get back his altar of
addition and subtraction , in which later in the story acted as the main reason on how Horace finally

The loose of his cage motivates Horace to take what the Efficiency Expert Extraordinary had taken

Child Rearing Interview Analysis
1) As I entered high school I knew I had a keen interest in children and child rearing. I enrolled in any
course offered in an attempt to determine how this interest could turn into a meaningful career.
Through my education in health and nutrition and my family experiences I was able to make the
connection that parenting begins before conception. Let me share with you my Aunts experience that
is responsible for me realizing my dream of becoming a Midwife. Two years ago my Aunt was told
her baby had the worst form of osteogenic imperfecta and that her baby was likely going to die during
childbirth. She chose to continue the pregnancy and chose to give this unborn baby all the love
possible, for as much time as they had together. My Aunt required

Antigone And The Adjustment Bureau Summary
Faith Morrow

Pre AP;5th hour
20 December, 2017
Compare and Contrast Essay Both Antigone and the Adjustment Bureau have similarities and
differences, when analyzing one government and democracy about the both of them! There are many
ways to compare and contrast these two pieces! Although Antigone and the Adjustment Bureau are
completely different, there are many similarities that you can draw from the both of them. Not only
can you relate both of theses pieces together using one motif, you can also relate the same motif to the
real world and to the choices that you make! In Antigone, government and democracy played a huge
role throughout the story! Creon is one that really relates to this motif! In the city of Thebes, the
government was a form of democratic democracy. At the time, Creon was king! Throughout the story,
Creon ruled as a dictator! His everyday choices depended on his governmentative standing! He used
his power over the people in the city when making choices that he thought would be beneficial. He
only listened to himself and he believed that every choice he made was right! Many different
characters in the story tried to offer advice to Creon, when they realized that he was making irrational
decisions, but he chose to ignore them and he continued along his own path. For example,
Tiresias(who is a seer, and knows what s going to happen in the future) tried to warn Creon about
what would happen at the rate Creon was going at! Tiresias tried to offer Creon advice and he told
Creon that he really should take his advice, but Creon took this as an insult. Whenever someone told
Creon what to do, he took it as an insult and he wouldn t listen to anyone, but himself. In the
Adjustment Bureau, government and democracy arises right when the movie begins and is continued
throughout the film. At the beginning of the movie, David was running for Congress! Due to this, he
had to change his lifestyles and he had to be more cautious about the choices that he made. For
example, at the beginning of the movie David s support system was weakened, because he got into a
bar fight that went viral! Due to the fact that he worked for the government, he had very little privacy,
which caused this

Modern Culture Is Inevitable, By John Storey And The...
Evolution of culture is inevitable, as shown in John Storey s articles, Inventing Opera as art in
Nineteenth Century Manchester and The Invention of the English Christmas. Within both articles,
Storey showcases the transformation of culture, with the opera from low class entertainment to high
class art and Christmas transforming from a religious centered event to a capitalism driven day. Both
articles look at class hierarchy, the rise of materialism and accessibility. While both of Storey s articles
are concerned with the evolution of cultural events, the opera emphasises class hierarchy, whereas the
article on the progression of Christmas focuses on a materialistic revolution. Inventing Opera as art in
Nineteenth Century Manchester told how opera evolved from an event centred on entertainment to a
form of art that could only be accessed by the bourgeois. Opera became a social construct, creating a
class hierarchy. Original Venetian operas were considered as low culture to the influential middle class
as they were the popular culture at the time and attended by lower class people who did not appreciate
the art form (Giroux, Nealon 2011, 53). Inventing Opera as art in Nineteenth Century Manchester
looks at an emergence of class hierarchy and what separates high class opera from low class opera. In
comparison, Storey s other article The Invention of the English Christmas demonstrates a materialistic
revolution that accompanied the industrial revolution in the

The Lisa And The Renaissance Art Of The Mona Lisa
Beginning with the renaissance period and it s artistic contributions to the period we find one of, if not
the most famous piece of art ever, The Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa exemplifies the renaissance period
and the era of renaissance art itself. Michelangelo Buonarroti painted the Mona Lisa in 1517 A.D. He
s most famous for his fresco s in the Sistine Chapel, specifically the ceiling. However, the Mona Lisa
is arguably the most copied piece of all time. I happen to have a copy in my home which I couldn t
imagine being without. Renaissance was a cultural movement that spanned roughly from the 14th
century to the 17th century. It saw some of the greatest artists in the history of mankind including
Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti. July 10, 2017 (https://learnodo
newtonic.com/famous renaissance paintings)
One of the greatest artistic advancements of the Renaissance period was used to create the Mona Lisa.
The technique is called Sfumato. Sfumato is the practice of blurring lines and softening blending tones
and hues. Its attributed with fostering increased dimensional depth to ordinarily two dimensional art.
While looking at the Mona Lisa and her seemingly plain features you begin to see the effects of
Sfumato at work. From the blurred lines defining her soft lips to the shading around her soft eyes. The
entire piece takes on a much softer appearance never before seen in such great application of art
during this period. The Mona Lisa is truly humanistic. She s close by and in the forefront. Her hair is
soft and her gaze is very relaxed. The natural light and rugged terrain behind her almost goes
unnoticed. She s mesmerized admirers for centuries before and hopefully, for centuries to come.
Rococo art can be seen influencing artist even today. If your viewing a whimsical, flirtatious or
mischievous piece of art post 18th century, you re likely looking at Rococo inspired art. During the
latter part of the 18th century Rococo art had evolved largely from the early Renaissance type art and
Sfumato techniques. Almost the antithesis of Baroque art and it s reliance on straight lines and sharp
contrast coupled with popular, or unpopular imperial Louis XIV messaging, Rococo adds some

Characteristics Of Beethoven Music
Beethoven is considered both an inspiration and obstacle to aspiring symphonists of the nineteenth
century. But what exactly led people to view the great composer in this light? In the decades
surrounding 1800 there were some notable changes in the musical scene, and it was these that would
eventually help to endow Beethoven s symphonies with an even greater aura of insuperability . There
were five aspects to Beethoven s music that are worthy of consideration:
1. The growing importance of originality
2. The rise of historical awareness
3. The emergence of the musical canon
4. The rise of public culture
5. The prestige of the sublime
It was believed that Beethoven raised instrumental music to greater heights than had previously been
experienced. This was an aspect of his music that could potentially be liable for the changing view on
the understanding that the listener had, the relationship to music, the nature of art in general, and the
social function of the symphony. These points all seemed to be secondary in comparison to the power
of Beethoven s music. Dahlhaus once said that the new insight that Beethoven thrust upon the
aesthetic consciousness of his age was that a musical text, like a literary or philosophical text,
harbours a meaning which is made manifest but not entirely subsumed in its acoustic presentation that
a musical creation can exist as an art work of ideas transcending its various interpretations . This
perception that Dahlhaus had of Beethoven is

never stumble through the confusions of his own character again. After viewing this quote, it is shown
that Gene didn t really understand who he was. He wanted to look like Finny and be Finny. Also,
another time Gene struggled with his identity was when he and Finny were talking on the phone while
Finny was still gone from Devon. Finny says Listen, pal, if I can t play sports, you re going to play
them for me, and I lost a part of myself to him then, and a soaring sense of freedom revealed that this
must have been my purpose from the first: to become a part of Phineas (85). At this time in the book,
Gene was feeling bad about Finny, and when Finny asked him to play sports for him, Gene felt like he
was becoming a part of Finny. Because of this event, it s shown that Gene didn t exactly know who he

partners from any kind of personal bankruptcy unless the partners were responsible personally in any
kind of faulty opinion in terms of audit. Nonetheless, firms in the UK have continued to choose

Sons Of Liberty Analysis
Benjamin Franklin once said We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately. The
quote represents how the Sons of Liberty were all in, and there was no backing down to the British.
They fought together and they were going to die together as long as they fought for what s right. The
Sons of Liberty attempted peaceful solutions to the taxations from the king, fought for what they
believed in, and were just acting out against the king in self defense which shows the Sons of Liberty
are patriotic leaders, not terrorists.
First, the Sons of Liberty attempted peaceful solutions. On page 99 in the text United States History
Beginning to 1914 the text states, A popular method of protest was the boy cott, in which people
refused to buy British goods. The first colonial boycott started in New York in 1765. This quote shows
that the colonists resorted to a peaceful protest to express their concern for the new taxations. This
matter because originally the colonists did not want to fight they just wanted to be represented. Which
shows they are patriots because they are sticking up for themselves and their rights. The colonists did
not only try peaceful solutions once. They attempted multiple times. An example of this is on page 114
in our textbooks. The text United States History Beginning to 1914 also states On July 5 the delegates
signed the Olive Branch Petition as a final attempt to restore harmony. King George refused to read it.

Essay about Sight and Blindness in Oedipus Rex
Sight and Blindness in Oedipus Rex
Oedipus Rex is a play about the way we blind ourselves to painful truths that we can t bear to see.
Physical sight and blindness are used throughout the play, often ironically, as a metaphor for mental
sight and blindness. The play ends with the hero Oedipus literally blinding himself to avoid seeing the
result of his terrible fate. But as the play demonstrates, Oedipus, the man who killed his father and
impregnated his mother, has been blind all along, and is partly responsible for his own blindness.
When the play opens, the people of the town are asking Oedipus for help. A curse has been cast upon
the city and the only way to remove it, is to find the murderer of the last king, Laios. ... Show more

It is ironic that the one individual, who comes to help the city, is the individual that has been the cause
of the curse. Oedipus is the illness. Oedipus and Jocasta both don t want to see the truth. Although it
may occur to them at some point, but they don t give it a second thought because they think it is
absurd and it isn t possible. Why should anyone in this world be afraid, since fate rules us and nothing
van be forseen? A man should live only for the present day. Have no more fear of sleeping with your
mother: How many men, in dreams, have lain with their mothers! No reasonable man is troubled by
such things. Jocasta is further from believing than Oedipus, she constantly tells him not to worry about
it, don t get worked up, and to just forget what you were told. Oedipus cannot forget what the oracle
has said and goes on to pursue the case.
Through the course of the play Oedipus is the detective, the judge, and the jury. He investigates,
decides a verdict, and carries out his own punishment. When Tiresias arrives at Thebes Oedipus
questions him looking for answers. Tiresias is a blind man, who ironically can see the future and truths
of people s lives. It is Tiresias who is the first person to tell Oedipus that he has killed his own father.
He tells Oedipus you do not see the evil in which you live. Oedipus doubts Tiresias ability to see the
truths because of his physical blindness and states, You

protect their children from what they deem inappropriate, and that censorship of anything (particularly
in movies and TV) is simply a parental tool for escaping blame. In the climax of the film the parents
sing a song whose words are meant to blame Canada before anyone blames the parents for their poor
parenting skills. It is also seen that a couple abandons their baby in the enthusiasm to join the other
parents in singing.
Much of the film s satire and many of the songs depict how people refuse to accept responsibility and
the tendency to look for someone else to blame .It should be noted in the film movies, government,
society, foreigners, and Satan are all blamed leading Kyle to remark: whenever I get in trouble, you go

Satire In A Modest Proposal
The Era of Hard Feelings Satire has been a common theme throughout modern culture, varying from
media, to a person s everyday demeanor or personality. Satire is defined as a way of using humor to
show that someone or something is foolish, weak, bad, or the weakness and bad qualities of a person,
government, and/or society (Webster s). It has become a natural occurrence in America s way of life,
even all around the world. It eventually evolved into a popular way of communication called sarcasm.
However, satire was not always widely accepted in popular culture. It was often shunned or

This is an extremely satirical idea simply because of the fact that it is ridiculing two types of people in
one sentence. The first, being the Irish Catholics, are made fun of quite obviously. The innuendo is
that, prior to the statement, it is suggested that there is a surplus of papist babies born nine months
after Lent, later supported by calling Catholics the principal breeders (Swift 622). This is seen as an
advantage to decrease the amount of Catholics in England, taking the opportunity and selling more
babies, but with a religious background. This idea is supported by the second, more hidden bash of
prejudice Englishmen with a Protestant religious background. The idea that the number of papists
would decrease is presented through Swift while the narrator is in the mindset of an English Protestant
just to make fun and to point out how foolish the idea of it all actually is.
The next example of extreme satire is when the author refers to an outside source. Swift goes on to say
that A very worthy person, a true lover of his country, and whose virtues I highly esteem, was lately
pleased in discoursing on this matter to offer a refinement upon my scheme (Swift 621). This
illustrates that another person is willing to support

In It s a Wonderful Life, the main character, George Bailey, is a good, giving man who faces a rough

when, at the end, Clarence finishes his job and earns his wings. The part I didn t like was when
George said that he wishes that he was never born. The lesson that It s a Wonderful Life teaches us
about thankfulness is that you need to appreciate how blessed you really are and not to take it for
granted. To apply this message to our daily lives, you can focus more on the little things and not so
much on the big things. You can do this by focusing more on the house you have and the food that is
being provided, rather than focusing on if it s what you like or not or wanting to own more. George
Bailey never got the opportunity to travel the world and build skyscrapers liked he hoped because he
feels tied down to the family company he never wanted to own and work for. As George Bailey got
older, he began to see everyone grow up to be what they wanted, and he sees all of his youth and
opportunities go right past him. George decides to end his life because he believes he is worth more
dead than alive. When Clarence, his guardian angel, sees this, he decides to show George what life
would be like if he had never existed. My George Bailey is my mom because she has had an impact on
my life since the day I was born. She has helped me through hard times and has taught me a lot of life
lessons. My mom is tough because she has to handle me and my two brothers who always fight and
usually don t get along. My mom has guts to stand up for what she thinks is right, and that s what
makes me love her even more. She is my mentor and my guide throughout life. She has rough patches
in her life, yet she never shows it. My mom is a lot like George Bailey because she usually does things
that she doesn t want to do, but she never says that she doesn t want to do it and she never complains.
My mom has made a huge impact on my life, yet she may never know it. My mom does so much for
me and my brothers that she usually doesn t take time for herself. That impacts me a lot because it
shows me what a hard working woman looks like. She

Definition Essay On Failure
Failure is among those things everyone has in common such as putting our pants on one leg at a time.
It is a human experience. A few individuals handle the experience well, others not so well. What is the
secret? How do some individuals bounce back so successfully following failure? #1 They do not go
ahead and take failure personally. Failure is not a personal attack or even a indication of any type of
character flaw. There is a clich that says something along the lines of failure means you tried. People
that are actively pursuing goals and dreams are unsuccessful often and they perceive it as part of the
progression. Instead of feeling not worthy or like a failure, they reevaluate their technique and try
again. When you encounter failure rather than feeling badly regarding yourself, feel good regarding ...

Gratitude is a strong emotion. Feeling gratitude for the failure and the experience will help you
proceed with resolve and enthusiasm. Occasionally writing or journaling your ideas in a positive
manner can help you accept failure as a positive experience instead of a negative one. #5 Realize it
happens to everybody and don t hesitate to ask for support or advice. Among the great things about
failure is it s an equalizer. Realize that the strongest people in the world, the most famous people have
all failed many, many times. Whenever you fail rather than internalizing it and having difficulties
again and again, ask for assistance and advice. #6 Embrace your inner child. Remember as a kid and
running together with your friend? Occasionally you would fall right? What would you do? You
would leap back up, not really think about the fall and go back to running, right? Children have a
knack for focusing on the fun and not letting the failures or falls stop them. Do as the song says, pick
yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again. When you love what you are working on, you
won t even offer a failure another

Perspective In The Host
Perspective is something a scarce number of people consider when attempting to find a solution to an
issue. In The Host, written by Stephenie Meyer the importance of point of view is greatly emphasized.
Wanderer is the main character, and she is not from Earth. She has experienced many lives on several
planets, and in this story she has her view on the human race challenged when she lives alongside
them. The Host has a main idea that one s personal perspective is their reality until they can see the
other side. To begin, people who have lived their entire lives being told lies are not likely to
understand that what they have been told is false, unless someone or something proves it to them. In
The Host, Wanderer has lived her entire life acting

Exploration of Castles Essay
Exploration of Castles
A.D 450 saw the creation of castles. Romans were replaced by Anglo Saxon foes, and these did leave
behind a system of castles however these were for Motte and Bailey castles built in the reign of
Edward the confessor.
The Norman invasion of 1066 was one of the causes for castles to become an important part of
defence. After king Harold s defeat by William the conqueror, William was concerned about how he
would control the country with only a limited number of troops facing a hostile environment. He did
not have enough troops to station them everywhere, so he used a very useful tactic that had worked in
Normandy previously. This was a simplified castle known as a ... Show more content on

The pathways and ladders that allowed reach to important areas of the castle have been removed or
destroyed; and the enemy are at a disadvantage because they are facing attack from a raised level.
As time progressed, the situation in England changed. The Normans were now in control of England
and there was little resistance from hostile sources, therefore a concentration on the development of
castles occurred.
Less time was needed for castles to be constructed quickly and therefore time could be used to search
for better materials for building. This meant that stone could be used instead of wood, which was used
previously. By 1100, the earth that had held Motte and bailey castles had now settles, and was capable
of sustaining much larger weights. With the change to stone castles, fire was not a concern as it was
when Motte and baileys were in use.
Square keeps were used when the development of stone castles were quite young. They were often
built in the most important places, to show how powerful the Normans were. Square keeps were good
because of the immense thickness of the walls. The walls in square keeps were often up to 5 metres
thick, and 30 metres high. This added to the strength of the castle because the walls could easily
withstand attacks from siege weapons such as magonels and trebuchets.

Observation Of A Toddler
Observation Summary About the video.
The video shows an instructor for the daycare sitting on the ground with three stunning toddlers
attracting in an activity. The video indicates that the teacher has a plastic bottle (the bottle is empty)
that is left open and have a few wood clothespins. The three toddlers have as a minimum one or two
clothespins each. The daycare trainer holds the plastic bottle in front of each infant individually with
hoping that one of the infants would place the wood clothespin thru the opened pinnacle to finally
drop the clothespin inside the plastic bottle. The video shows that the trainer has a plastic bottle (the
bottle is empty) that is left open and feature some wooden clothespins. The three babies have at least
one or clothespins each. The daycare instructor holds the plastic bottle in the front of each infant in my
opinion with hoping that one of the toddlers might location the timber clothespin through the opened
top to ultimately drop the clothespin inside the plastic bottle. By the stop of the video, the daycare
trainer is aware that the third toddler (the 1/3 little one with the blond hair) is having an entirely tough
time setting his clothespin inside the plastic bottle. The instructor noticed that he has about three
clothespins in his hand which she took away two, leaving him with one clothespin, the teacher then
shakes the plastic bottle to get his attention, once more using that time he eventually positioned the
clothespin inside the

Roles Of Women In Beowulf
Role of Women in Beowulf
As an epic tale of heroes and monsters, Beowulf gives its readers much excitement and adventure, but
Beowulf s importance is more than just literary. It offers many insights into the beliefs and customs of
seventh century Anglo Saxon culture. Among these insights is the Anglo Saxon view of women and
their role in society. Good Anglo Saxon women are peaceful and unassertive, greeting guests and
serving drinks to the warriors and other men in the meadhall. Wealhtheow, the queen of the Danes,
represents a typical subservient Anglo Saxon woman. As a foil to Wealhtheow, Grendel s mother is a
strong and combative monster whom Beowulf must kill. By analyzing these two characters in
Beowulf, we can understand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
621 2). When Wealhtheow first approaches Beowulf and the Geats, she bore him a cup / with gold
gleaming hands held it before him / graciously greeted the Geats warleader (ll. 623 5). The author then
reinforces that she is a member of the weaker gender by directing Wealhtheow to her proper position
behind the king. When the queen is not serving drinks or greeting the hall guests, she may usually be
found obediently following Hrothgar throughout the meadhall and waiting for hope news (l. 923).
However, as queen, Wealhtheow shows her intelligence and ability to control men, to some degree,
despite her limited powers; accordingly, the author expands her role from that of a traditional Anglo
Saxon woman to include gift giver and guardian of the throne. Following Beowulf s fearless victory
over Grendel, Wealhtheow offers a toast to the Geats and gives Beowulf rewards for his heroism. She
tells Beowulf, Have luck with this neck ring beloved Beowulf / accept these gifts gold gleaming
treasures / and use them well emdash;may you win always / make known your strength and save for
these boys / wise counsel words emdash;I ll reward you for that (ll.1216 20). Wealhtheow cleverly
uses this opportunity to safeguard her two children from Hrothulf, their mischievous older cousin.
Should the king meet an untimely death, Wealhtheow needs to guarantee that Hrothulf

The 1982 movie Gandhi, starring Ben Kingsley and Candice...
The 1982 movie Gandhi, starring Ben Kingsley and Candice Bergen had both strengths and
weaknesses. One of the movies weaknesses was that it left a lot of gaps. It is understandable why they
had to leave a lot of gaps. The movie was supposed to depict the whole life of Gandhi. If they had of
put every detail of Gandhi s life, every year of every sentence he spent in jail, the movie would be way
longer than three plus hours. I just think that they could have better picked and chosen which parts to
leave out because at times it left you confused, which leads me to my next weakness. At times it was
hard to understand what exactly was going on. As a person who is not as familiar with Gandhi and
what exactly he stood for, it was very hard to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now to discuss my opinion of the 1982 movie Gandhi. In my opinion the 1982 movie Gandhi was
extremely inspirational. Most movies now days are just about things that appeal to the majority of
people who actually go watch, buy, or download movies: people under the age of 40. They stream
ideas and philosophies common and relatable to these people. Gandhi is a movie that I feel was
strictly objective. It presented the facts in a way that it was only the facts. Also, I think that the 1982
movie Gandhi was very interesting. The movie though very long, held my attention the majority of the
time. At times it would get boring and even sleep worthy but then it would show a scene of a group of
soldiers massacre a peaceful mob of people. Also, I think that the intermission that they added to the
movie was unnecessary. The movie was long enough by itself the intermission only added an
unneeded twenty minutes to the movie. I appreciate the consideration that the creators tried to extent
toward the watchers but I also feel that any methods they could have used to shorten the 1982 movie
Gandhi should have been used. A three plus hour long movie is a lot for any one person to sit through.
Also, I think that the 1982 movie Gandhi had a great story line. If I was just someone who randomly
decided to watch Gandhi I would be caught by the overall amazement of the movie. The 1982 movie
Gandhi was an action movie, a romance movie, and a comedy all rolled

Karl Marx and Humanity
Karl Marx, a modern German philosopher, forever altered our perception of who we are by offering a
description of human nature that differs from traditional thinking. Although Marx s theories were
groundbreaking, they do not escape criticism. More specifically, differing views are offered for both
the importance of labor and how our society shapes our nature. In this essay, I will be addressing these
two opposing views and arguing for Marx s description of human nature.
Marx rejects the idea that human nature consists of any certain, particular activity. He instead puts
forward the idea that our human nature is a product of the society we live in (Wall, 2005). Marx
accepts the notion that humans are rational, thinking things and expands ... Show more content on

Marx suggests that the Bourgeoisie was able to exploit the working class because it is the ruling class
in a capitalistic society, thus its actions are backed and enforced by the State (Wall, 2005).
From his disdain of Capitalism arose Marx s idea of the perfect society for human nature,
Communism. Communism is a system in which there is no private property, no social classes, and no
excess capital. The government essentially has total economic control, including owning both the
means of forces of production, as well as having an exclusive monopoly of the banks. This practice, in
turn, eliminates the exploitation and alienation of any persons. Communism embraces the idea that
you contribute what you can and take what you need without any form of inequality. Each man would
work for the collective good for all, as opposed to working for his own individual good. Individuals
only have to spend the minimal amount of time working as a means to survive, allowing for more time
to become self actualized, happy beings through the creative activity of their choice (Wartenburg,
1982). Thomas Hobbes offers an opposing view to Marx s idea of labor that may appear more
favorable to some. Hobbes argued for the belief that the best way to live life is selfishly, putting your
own personal desires before others. This is the life of a free rider , one who receives the benefits of
[others] generosity without

Across The World, There Are Many Global Health Issues Which
Across the world, there are many global health issues which are being played out in which society
faces. Whether it be a developing issue or one that has been plaguing society for an amount of time, as
the world becomes a more globalized entity, many are beginning to realize that while we may face
challenges individual to more local levels, there are just as many challenges that we must take on
together. Climate change, and its effect upon human health, is one of these uniting challenges. While
climate changes have occurred throughout the course of planet Earth s history, the world is now
witnessing a dramatic increase in the amount of negative impacts caused by changes in our climate. At
an alarming rate, these changes are occurring and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the sake of this paper, there will be two different types of impacts of climate change on human
health: physical impact and mental impact. Now, the majority of the effects of climate change are
indeed physical impacts, for this includes problems such as severe weather events, raising
temperatures, and an increase in numerous disease across the globe. These physical impacts are what
many of the sources in regards to the topic mainly focus on. A few, however, do take time to mention
the importance of mental health in regards to climate change. In often cases, mental health can be a
result of physical impacts, but as the issue of global climate change becomes progressively more
crucial, that is not always the case. Both physical and mental impacts can have impacts on how
society, on all levels, functions, and if we are not careful to take appropriate action, society may begin
to crumble, at least only slightly. It is now coming to light that both the physical and mental impacts
are important to be addressed when discussing climate change action.
What remains important, is that even though climate change is, or may, effecting the health of us all in
some way, and it is a global issue, that each region of the world in impacted differently. This means
that while it

Link expansion projects in transportation networks are almost always interdependent. When capacity of one link in a network changes it affects the flow of other links, and may shift bottle necks elsewhere throughout the network. In other words with respect to this expansion in one link, flow in other links may increase or decrease due to interdependency among them. So finding a sequence for a set of improvement projects needs consideration of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Wang and Schonfeld. 2005) Along the same lines, simulation based genetic search can be time consuming but with the advent of new technology and higher speed Processors, this problem is becoming less significant. Existing Studies mainly focuses on selecting and scheduling of projects with the assumption of being independent. There are two approaches which are commonly used for solving project selection and sequencing. The first approach is integer programming (Weingartner 1966; Cochran et al. 1971; Clark et al. 1984; Johnson et al. 1985) and the second one is dynamic programming (Weingartner 1966; Nemhauser and Ullman 1969; Morin and Esogbue 1971; Erlenkotter 1973; Morin 1974). [2] The first defect of these approaches is the difficulty of capturing the interdependencies among projects, and the second one is the inefficiency or even the infeasibility of the results in the case of responding to larger problems. Martinelli (1993) proposed a heuristic method for selecting and scheduling interdependent waterway investment projects. The results of this method are based on an evaluation to compare various combinations of project implementation over a time period. This method begins by establishing an initial sequence based on an independent evaluation. Then the initial solution is adjusted by using a heuristic which performs a swap (or swaps) in the sequence. In each section, Rosen compares two justices and obviously favors one over the other. But, as the author, he does recognize the flaws in his view, and the pros in the opposite view. Rosen clearly favors justices who promote harmony in the court and create rulings with unanimous decisions. But, Rosen will always comment on something positive about a judge he does not favor, and will comment on something negative on the justice he does favor, balancing himself out. Another key factor that informs the reader about how the law came about to be how it is today is by judicial temperament. Rosen uses this as a key point while comparing the justices. Judicial Temperament describes the judge s general attitude towards the law, and other judges. Like many other admissions test it is used to help colleges select students who will be successful in college. In the first article of the source material, titled Can you Make Yourself Smarter , the topic of intelligence testing was addressed. The article also mentioned more accurate and effective forms of intelligence testing and the use of intelligence improving games in schools. Upon mentioning schools and effective ways of measuring intelligence I began to wonder whether tests administered in school, like the SAT, were effective in what they are designed to do. These tests hold such great bearings on the academic careers of students I wondered whether the test should be used at all. This lead to the question; should SAT be used to predict college success? In this paper success will be defined mainly though grade point average (GPA). While this is not the only way to define success it is one of the most measurable indicators of success. The author of Illiterate America , Jonathan Kozol expresses his concern on the issue of illiteracy in America. Although his book was published in 1985, illiteracy and the examples Kozol provided in his writing remains relevant to the world we live in today. Kozol s purpose in writing this book was to bring awareness and expose the flaws America purposely overlooks. In efforts to bring his readers out of their comfort zones , Kozol successfully uses the strategies of allusion, analogy, and anecdote. Straight away, Kozol s use of allusion can be detected; he implemented this strategy to give the audience an opportunity to get out of their safe zone. Antigone And The Adjustment Bureau Summary Faith Morrow Ms. Gottner Pre AP;5th hour 20 December, 2017 Compare and Contrast Essay Both Antigone and the Adjustment Bureau have similarities and differences, when analyzing one government and democracy about the both of them! There are many ways to compare and contrast these two pieces! Although Antigone and the Adjustment Bureau are completely different, there are many similarities that you can draw from the both of them. Not only can you relate both of theses pieces together using one motif, you can also relate the same motif to the real world and to the choices that you make! In Antigone, government and democracy played a huge role throughout the story! Creon is one that really relates to this motif! In the city of Thebes, the government was a form of democratic democracy. At the time, Creon was king! Throughout the story, Creon ruled as a dictator! His everyday choices depended on his governmentative standing! He used his power over the people in the city when making choices that he thought would be beneficial. He only listened to himself and he believed that every choice he made was right! Many different characters in the story tried to offer advice to Creon, when they realized that he was making irrational decisions, but he chose to ignore them and he continued along his own path. For example, Tiresias(who is a seer, and knows what s going to happen in the future) tried to warn Creon about what would happen at the rate Creon was going at! Tiresias tried to offer Creon advice and he told Creon that he really should take his advice, but Creon took this as an insult. Whenever someone told Creon what to do, he took it as an insult and he wouldn t listen to anyone, but himself. In the Adjustment Bureau, government and democracy arises right when the movie begins and is continued throughout the film. At the beginning of the movie, David was running for Congress! Due to this, he had to change his lifestyles and he had to be more cautious about the choices that he made. For example, at the beginning of the movie David s support system was weakened, because he got into a bar fight that went viral! Due to the fact that he worked for the government, he had very little privacy, which caused this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Modern Culture Is Inevitable, By John Storey And The... Evolution of culture is inevitable, as shown in John Storey s articles, Inventing Opera as art in Nineteenth Century Manchester and The Invention of the English Christmas. Within both articles, Storey showcases the transformation of culture, with the opera from low class entertainment to high class art and Christmas transforming from a religious centered event to a capitalism driven day. Both articles look at class hierarchy, the rise of materialism and accessibility. While both of Storey s articles are concerned with the evolution of cultural events, the opera emphasises class hierarchy, whereas the article on the progression of Christmas focuses on a materialistic revolution. Inventing Opera as art in Nineteenth Century Manchester told how opera evolved from an event centred on entertainment to a form of art that could only be accessed by the bourgeois. Opera became a social construct, creating a class hierarchy. Original Venetian operas were considered as low culture to the influential middle class as they were the popular culture at the time and attended by lower class people who did not appreciate the art form (Giroux, Nealon 2011, 53). Inventing Opera as art in Nineteenth Century Manchester looks at an emergence of class hierarchy and what separates high class opera from low class opera. In comparison, Storey s other article The Invention of the English Christmas demonstrates a materialistic revolution that accompanied the industrial revolution in the ... • 27. The Lisa And The Renaissance Art Of The Mona Lisa Beginning with the renaissance period and it s artistic contributions to the period we find one of, if not the most famous piece of art ever, The Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa exemplifies the renaissance period and the era of renaissance art itself. Michelangelo Buonarroti painted the Mona Lisa in 1517 A.D. He s most famous for his fresco s in the Sistine Chapel, specifically the ceiling. However, the Mona Lisa is arguably the most copied piece of all time. I happen to have a copy in my home which I couldn t imagine being without. Renaissance was a cultural movement that spanned roughly from the 14th century to the 17th century. It saw some of the greatest artists in the history of mankind including Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo Buonarroti. July 10, 2017 (https://learnodo newtonic.com/famous renaissance paintings) One of the greatest artistic advancements of the Renaissance period was used to create the Mona Lisa. The technique is called Sfumato. Sfumato is the practice of blurring lines and softening blending tones and hues. Its attributed with fostering increased dimensional depth to ordinarily two dimensional art. While looking at the Mona Lisa and her seemingly plain features you begin to see the effects of Sfumato at work. From the blurred lines defining her soft lips to the shading around her soft eyes. The entire piece takes on a much softer appearance never before seen in such great application of art during this period. The Mona Lisa is truly humanistic. She s close by and in the forefront. Her hair is soft and her gaze is very relaxed. The natural light and rugged terrain behind her almost goes unnoticed. She s mesmerized admirers for centuries before and hopefully, for centuries to come. Rococo art can be seen influencing artist even today. If your viewing a whimsical, flirtatious or mischievous piece of art post 18th century, you re likely looking at Rococo inspired art. During the latter part of the 18th century Rococo art had evolved largely from the early Renaissance type art and Sfumato techniques. Almost the antithesis of Baroque art and it s reliance on straight lines and sharp contrast coupled with popular, or unpopular imperial Louis XIV messaging, Rococo adds some ... • 29. Characteristics Of Beethoven Music Beethoven is considered both an inspiration and obstacle to aspiring symphonists of the nineteenth century. But what exactly led people to view the great composer in this light? In the decades surrounding 1800 there were some notable changes in the musical scene, and it was these that would eventually help to endow Beethoven s symphonies with an even greater aura of insuperability . There were five aspects to Beethoven s music that are worthy of consideration: 1. The growing importance of originality 2. The rise of historical awareness 3. The emergence of the musical canon 4. The rise of public culture 5. The prestige of the sublime It was believed that Beethoven raised instrumental music to greater heights than had previously been experienced. This was an aspect of his music that could potentially be liable for the changing view on the understanding that the listener had, the relationship to music, the nature of art in general, and the social function of the symphony. These points all seemed to be secondary in comparison to the power of Beethoven s music. Dahlhaus once said that the new insight that Beethoven thrust upon the aesthetic consciousness of his age was that a musical text, like a literary or philosophical text, harbours a meaning which is made manifest but not entirely subsumed in its acoustic presentation that a musical creation can exist as an art work of ideas transcending its various interpretations . The quote represents how the Sons of Liberty were all in, and there was no backing down to the British. The Sons of Liberty attempted peaceful solutions to the taxations from the king, fought for what they believed in, and were just acting out against the king in self defense which shows the Sons of Liberty are patriotic leaders, not terrorists. First, the Sons of Liberty attempted peaceful solutions. Physical sight and blindness are used throughout the play, often ironically, as a metaphor for mental sight and blindness. The play ends with the hero Oedipus literally blinding himself to avoid seeing the result of his terrible fate. But as the play demonstrates, Oedipus, the man who killed his father and impregnated his mother, has been blind all along, and is partly responsible for his own blindness. I think that this story teaches us a great lesson on being thankful. I liked the part when, at the end, Clarence finishes his job and earns his wings. The part I didn t like was when George said that he wishes that he was never born. The lesson that It s a Wonderful Life teaches us about thankfulness is that you need to appreciate how blessed you really are and not to take it for granted. To apply this message to our daily lives, you can focus more on the little things and not so much on the big things. You can do this by focusing more on the house you have and the food that is being provided, rather than focusing on if it s what you like or not or wanting to own more. She has experienced many lives on several planets, and in this story she has her view on the human race challenged when she lives alongside them. The Host has a main idea that one s personal perspective is their reality until they can see the other side. To begin, people who have lived their entire lives being told lies are not likely to understand that what they have been told is false, unless someone or something proves it to them. In The Host, Wanderer has lived her entire life acting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Romans were replaced by Anglo Saxon foes, and these did leave behind a system of castles however these were for Motte and Bailey castles built in the reign of Edward the confessor. The Norman invasion of 1066 was one of the causes for castles to become an important part of defence. After king Harold s defeat by William the conqueror, William was concerned about how he would control the country with only a limited number of troops facing a hostile environment. He did not have enough troops to station them everywhere, so he used a very useful tactic that had worked in Normandy previously. This was a simplified castle known as a ... The pathways and ladders that allowed reach to important areas of the castle have been removed or destroyed; and the enemy are at a disadvantage because they are facing attack from a raised level. As time progressed, the situation in England changed. The Normans were now in control of England and there was little resistance from hostile sources, therefore a concentration on the development of castles occurred. Less time was needed for castles to be constructed quickly and therefore time could be used to search for better materials for building. This meant that stone could be used instead of wood, which was used previously. By 1100, the earth that had held Motte and bailey castles had now settles, and was capable of sustaining much larger weights. With the change to stone castles, fire was not a concern as it was when Motte and baileys were in use. Square keeps were used when the development of stone castles were quite young. They were often built in the most important places, to show how powerful the Normans were. Square keeps were good because of the immense thickness of the walls. The walls in square keeps were often up to 5 metres thick, and 30 metres high. This added to the strength of the castle because the walls could easily withstand attacks from siege weapons such as magonels and trebuchets. Text Box: Because of the ... The daycare trainer holds the plastic bottle in front of each infant individually with hoping that one of the infants would place the wood clothespin thru the opened pinnacle to finally drop the clothespin inside the plastic bottle. The video shows that the trainer has a plastic bottle (the bottle is empty) that is left open and feature some wooden clothespins. The three babies have at least one or clothespins each. The daycare instructor holds the plastic bottle in the front of each infant in my opinion with hoping that one of the toddlers might location the timber clothespin through the opened top to ultimately drop the clothespin inside the plastic bottle. By the stop of the video, the daycare trainer is aware that the third toddler (the 1/3 little one with the blond hair) is having an entirely tough time setting his clothespin inside the plastic bottle. The instructor noticed that he has about three clothespins in his hand which she took away two, leaving him with one clothespin, the teacher then shakes the plastic bottle to get his attention, once more using that time he eventually positioned the clothespin inside the ... • 47. Roles Of Women In Beowulf Role of Women in Beowulf As an epic tale of heroes and monsters, Beowulf gives its readers much excitement and adventure, but Beowulf s importance is more than just literary. It offers many insights into the beliefs and customs of seventh century Anglo Saxon culture. Among these insights is the Anglo Saxon view of women and their role in society. Good Anglo Saxon women are peaceful and unassertive, greeting guests and serving drinks to the warriors and other men in the meadhall. Wealhtheow, the queen of the Danes, represents a typical subservient Anglo Saxon woman. As a foil to Wealhtheow, Grendel s mother is a strong and combative monster whom Beowulf must kill. By analyzing these two characters in Beowulf, we can understand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 621 2). When Wealhtheow first approaches Beowulf and the Geats, she bore him a cup / with gold gleaming hands held it before him / graciously greeted the Geats warleader (ll. 623 5). The author then reinforces that she is a member of the weaker gender by directing Wealhtheow to her proper position behind the king. When the queen is not serving drinks or greeting the hall guests, she may usually be found obediently following Hrothgar throughout the meadhall and waiting for hope news (l. 923). However, as queen, Wealhtheow shows her intelligence and ability to control men, to some degree, despite her limited powers; accordingly, the author expands her role from that of a traditional Anglo Saxon woman to include gift giver and guardian of the throne. Following Beowulf s fearless victory over Grendel, Wealhtheow offers a toast to the Geats and gives Beowulf rewards for his heroism. She tells Beowulf, Have luck with this neck ring beloved Beowulf / accept these gifts gold gleaming treasures / and use them well emdash;may you win always / make known your strength and save for these boys / wise counsel words emdash;I ll reward you for that (ll.1216 20). Wealhtheow cleverly uses this opportunity to safeguard her two children from Hrothulf, their mischievous older cousin. • 48. The 1982 movie Gandhi, starring Ben Kingsley and Candice... The 1982 movie Gandhi, starring Ben Kingsley and Candice Bergen had both strengths and weaknesses. One of the movies weaknesses was that it left a lot of gaps. It is understandable why they had to leave a lot of gaps. The movie was supposed to depict the whole life of Gandhi. If they had of put every detail of Gandhi s life, every year of every sentence he spent in jail, the movie would be way longer than three plus hours. I just think that they could have better picked and chosen which parts to leave out because at times it left you confused, which leads me to my next weakness. At times it was hard to understand what exactly was going on. As a person who is not as familiar with Gandhi and what exactly he stood for, it was very hard to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now to discuss my opinion of the 1982 movie Gandhi. In my opinion the 1982 movie Gandhi was extremely inspirational. Most movies now days are just about things that appeal to the majority of people who actually go watch, buy, or download movies: people under the age of 40. They stream ideas and philosophies common and relatable to these people. Gandhi is a movie that I feel was strictly objective. It presented the facts in a way that it was only the facts. Also, I think that the 1982 movie Gandhi was very interesting. The movie though very long, held my attention the majority of the time. At times it would get boring and even sleep worthy but then it would show a scene of a group of soldiers massacre a peaceful mob of people. Also, I think that the intermission that they added to the movie was unnecessary. The movie was long enough by itself the intermission only added an unneeded twenty minutes to the movie. I appreciate the consideration that the creators tried to extent toward the watchers but I also feel that any methods they could have used to shorten the 1982 movie Gandhi should have been used. A three plus hour long movie is a lot for any one person to sit through. Also, I think that the 1982 movie Gandhi had a great story line. If I was just someone who randomly decided to watch Gandhi I would be caught by the overall amazement of the movie. The 1982 movie Gandhi was an action movie, a romance movie, and a comedy all rolled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Karl Marx and Humanity Karl Marx, a modern German philosopher, forever altered our perception of who we are by offering a description of human nature that differs from traditional thinking. Although Marx s theories were groundbreaking, they do not escape criticism. More specifically, differing views are offered for both the importance of labor and how our society shapes our nature. In this essay, I will be addressing these two opposing views and arguing for Marx s description of human nature. Marx rejects the idea that human nature consists of any certain, particular activity. He instead puts forward the idea that our human nature is a product of the society we live in (Wall, 2005). Marx accepts the notion that humans are rational, thinking things and expands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marx suggests that the Bourgeoisie was able to exploit the working class because it is the ruling class in a capitalistic society, thus its actions are backed and enforced by the State (Wall, 2005). From his disdain of Capitalism arose Marx s idea of the perfect society for human nature, Communism. Communism is a system in which there is no private property, no social classes, and no excess capital. The government essentially has total economic control, including owning both the means of forces of production, as well as having an exclusive monopoly of the banks. This practice, in turn, eliminates the exploitation and alienation of any persons. Communism embraces the idea that you contribute what you can and take what you need without any form of inequality. Each man would work for the collective good for all, as opposed to working for his own individual good. Individuals only have to spend the minimal amount of time working as a means to survive, allowing for more time to become self actualized, happy beings through the creative activity of their choice (Wartenburg, 1982). Thomas Hobbes offers an opposing view to Marx s idea of labor that may appear more favorable to some. Hobbes argued for the belief that the best way to live life is selfishly, putting your own personal desires before others. This is the life of a free rider , one who receives the benefits of [others] generosity without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether it be a developing issue or one that has been plaguing society for an amount of time, as the world becomes a more globalized entity, many are beginning to realize that while we may face challenges individual to more local levels, there are just as many challenges that we must take on together. Climate change, and its effect upon human health, is one of these uniting challenges. For the sake of this paper, there will be two different types of impacts of climate change on human health: physical impact and mental impact. Now, the majority of the effects of climate change are indeed physical impacts, for this includes problems such as severe weather events, raising temperatures, and an increase in numerous disease across the globe. These physical impacts are what many of the sources in regards to the topic mainly focus on. A few, however, do take time to mention the importance of mental health in regards to climate change. In often cases, mental health can be a result of physical impacts, but as the issue of global climate change becomes progressively more crucial, that is not always the case. Both physical and mental impacts can have impacts on how society, on all levels, functions, and if we are not careful to take appropriate action, society may begin to crumble, at least only slightly. It is now coming to light that both the physical and mental impacts are important to be addressed when discussing climate change action. What remains important, is that even though climate change is, or may, effecting the health of us all in some way, and it is a global issue, that each region of the world in impacted differently. This means that while it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
