Is there an easy manner to attract students to contribute to free software ? GSoC is a good example. What about trying to extend this experience through the academic year. In this slide there are couple of ideas about how to do that. The project is not yet born and needs to be further investigated.

Patterns and macro-scripts for supporting teachers with learning design
Prof. Yannis Dimitriadis, University of Valladolid
Location: Large Seminar Room
Learning design or scripting has drawn considerable attention in the field of CSCL (Computer Supported Collaborative Learning). Such an interest draws on research in flexible scaffolding of complex collaborative situations as well as on parallel research regarding Learning Design.
This talk will address a pattern-based approach to CSCL macro-scripts as a means to support teachers in the Learning Design process. Besides a presentation of prior work on Collaborative Learning Flow Patterns and the WebCollage tool, this talk will describe current research efforts that aim at interweaving learning and assessment
patterns. Finally, it will reflect on issues that may relate the patterns approach with
the Learning Design and Open Educational Resources fields.

Engineers and Architects require effective communication and
interdisciplinary team working to be successful throughout their career which, is often overlooked during formal undergraduate education. The
purpose of this paper is to disseminate the novel design and evaluation of a module on communication and interdisciplinary team working in the combined teaching of undergraduate Engineering and Architecture students. An Interdisciplinary Problem-Based Learning (IPBL) approach is used and the theoretical construct for this work is the application of dialogical theory to the shared habitus between engineers and architects. The constructivist theory of learning was employed in the design and delivery of this module. It is an action research pedagogical
intervention to support the improvement in the teaching and learning of communications and teamwork between architects and engineers. Feedback shows students identified improvement in their communication and teamwork skills at the end of the module.

Learning portfolios workshop: a structured approachRaynauld Jacques
nspired by program based principles, instructors are now designing fully integrated sequences of learning modules linked to learning outcomes were students are expected to post artefacts and associated reflexive comments. In this workshop, we present numerous learning environments of this type and provide a general framework linking all the key components. Various mock-ups will be used to illustrate in a live demo some of the key functionalities and could lead to questions and comments by participants according to their own specific needs. We conclude by discussing how these environments can be implemented in a model-based structured approach using the Web 2.0 Google Web Toolkit framework.
The summative evaluation report by Josélia Neves presents the final results of the project, assessing its overall evolution. It considers the totality and legacy of the project, its overall success and failures, the results of its transnational application and its final deliverables and dissemination.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Dropouts are youngsters (15 – 24) who leave school without a diploma and normal do not return. This project is to motivate them to pick up where they left, but focus on issues that are more relevant to them, more relevant to their actual situation: what we call lifelong learning practices.
