How Did The Scientists Make A Big Difference In The World
Scientists make a big difference in the world. Albert Einstein was one of the greatest scientists in
history. Einstein added to the world with his brilliant knowledge. I would emulate Albert Einstein
because he made a difference in the world through his knowledge, curiosity, and commitment to
science. Einstein was a very smart scholar. When the US found out that the German scientists might
win the race to build an atomic bomb, Einstein was asked to write a letter to President Roosevelt
recommending that the US pay attention and engage in its own nuclear weapon research. As a result of
Einstein s letter and his meetings with Roosevelt, the U.S. entered the race to develop the atomic
bomb. This was known as the Manhattan project. Soon after

Review Of The Hound Of Baskerville
Hound of Baskerville
In the world of detective shows and movies there are six simple rules. The first rule is the crime must
be significant. Second, the detective must be memorable. Third, the criminal must be a worthy
opponent. Fourth, the clues must be made available to the viewer. Fifth, the suspect must appear early
in the story, and sixth, the solution must be reasonable and possible. In BBC s Sherlock episode, The
Hound of Baskerville, it shows all six of these rule extremely well. In the show, rule one is revealed a
little later in the story. After Sherlock got back from whatever he was doing he was itching for a new
case and the only offer he had was the mystery of the missing rabbit that glowed in the dark. Then
there was a doorbell and walks in Henry Knight with a interesting case for Sherlock. Henry explains
that his father was slaughtered in front of him as a child and was convinced that the monster was
created in Baskerville. This leaded straight to a murder mystery case, making the crime significant.
Rule number two is pretty obvious since it s a Sherlock Holmes TV show making him the memorable
detective, but what he does makes him even more memorable than just being the main character in the
TV show. He is brilliant and can solve cases like no one else. He picks up clues that no one normally
sees. In this episode, he connects the glowing rabbit case with the hound of Baskerville case. He also
picks up on things like when Henry Knight said hound instead of

Reparation for the Non-Compensated Group in the District...
During the Suriname Guerrilla War between 1986 and 1992 between the Jungle commando led by
Ronnie Brunswijk and the Surinamese military team headed by Desi Bouterse, the human rights of the
people who were living in the tribal communities in the district of Marowijne were consistently being
violated. However a peace agreement had been signed in France Guiana in May 1992, the American
Court of Human Rights sentenced the government of Suriname of committing actions against human
rights and ordered the state to start an investigation to compensate the civilians of the massacre in the
Moiwana village on November 29, 1986 in Marowijne (Inter American Court of Human Rights 2006).
Despite the Miowana village however, there were other villages ... Show more content on

However the actions against human rights in this village draw much more attention, because of the
killing of 39 community members, mostly women and children, in a search for the guerrilla leader
Ronny Brunswijk. However taking the customary laws, usage, values and mores in consideration the
term traditional territories does not only refer to a particular village site, but also to the areas
according to the N Djuka customary law which reaches to the upper Tapanahony river in the district of
Sipaliwini. Unfortunately, the Inter American Court of Human Rights did not include the N Djuka
community members living in other villages rather than Moiwana and its members in her judgment.
On the other hand community members of Moiwana living in French Guiana were also taken in
consideration by the judgment. In August 2005 the government of Suriname was ordered to pay 13
million USD to 130 survivors and to establish a community fund (1.2 million USD) to enhance the
development of Moiwana (Sloover 2005).
The non compensated group or the left out group is in this case the communities who did not find
justice yet after the maltreatment and killings of community members in the earlier mentioned
guerrilla war. Even though some of the livelihoods were separated from each other and were lived by
one or two families whose human rights had been violated, similar Judgments as the Moiwana case
can be applied to the group on

LRINEC Score
Blood sampling is also useful, and protein and cell levels can be used to calculate a LRINEC score.
LRINEC stands for Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotizing Fasciitis and is a great tool for
distinguishing common skin infections from necrotizing fasciitis. In addition, its score is used to
determine if immediate surgical debridement is necessary. Measurements included in the LRINEC
score is C reaction protein, white blood cell count, hemoglobin, sodium, creatinine, and glucose (16).
CRP levels vary drastically among cellulitis and necrotizing fasciitis. CRP stands for C reactive
protein, which is a naturally produced chemical in the liver that serves as a blood test marker for
inflammation throughout the body. A high CRP level indicates

Globalization And The Global Economy
For many of the world s population, the growing integration of the global economy has provided the
opportunity for substantial income growth. This is reflected not only in higher incomes, but also in the
improved availability of better quality and increasingly differentiated final products. However, at the
same time, globalization has had its dark side. There has been an increasing tendency towards growing
equalization within and between countries and a stubborn incidence in the absolute levels of poverty,
not just in poor countries. These positive and negative attributes of globalization have been
experienced at a number of different levels the individual, the household, the firm, the town, the
region, the sector and the nation. The distributional pattern emerging in recent decades of
globalization is thus simultaneously heterogeneous and complex. If those who had lost from
globalization had been confined to the non participants, the policy implications would be clear take
every step to be an active participant in global production and trade. However, the challenge is much
more daunting than this, since the losers include many of those who have participated actively in the
process of global integration. Hence, there is a need to manage the mode of insertion into the global
economy, to ensure that incomes are not reduced or further polarized. Many factors associated with
globalization will affect the distribution returns. For example, macro economic disturbances

Srutinize The Quote From Heilbroner And Milberg
Scrutinize the Quote from Heilbroner/Milberg The evolution of the market economy has its roots in
tradition and command systems. Even today, market economies rely on practices that have a
resemblance to those of the middle ages and antiquity. If a person of yester years were exposed to the
workings of the free market, they would be baffled with how resources are allocated to the right places
especially labor and production. The beginnings of the economic society are traced to the relatable but
separate problems that the society faced: the production of sufficient goods and services that would
ensure the survival of the society and the organization of production output to make certain that there
is more production (Heilbroner and Milberg 4). All medieval societies sought for ways to deal with
these problems. Through history, humankind has tried to solve the problems of production and
distribution in three ways: tradition, command and market economies (Heilbroner and Milberg 6). All
these solutions are relatable to each other with some aspects of each overarching on the others. For the
tradition solution, it focused on solving the issue of production. Each member of the society had their
role predefined similar to their parents occupations. Notably, sons ... Show more content on

These forces of evolution range from the nomadic merchant, urbanization, the religious crusades, the
amalgamation of political and economic power, exploration, the changing currents of the religious
climate, Calvinism, the collapse of the manorial system, and the emergence of the cash economy
(Heilbroner and Milberg 32 41). All these factors contributed to the rise in cash and money
transactions as the pinnacles of the economic solution, and the individual started acting in accordance
to economic motives with their central concern being to make

Characterization Of Harrison Bergeron In 2081 And Harrison...
Characterization of Harrison Bergeron in 2081 and Harrison Bergeron
Comparing and contrasting Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron and Chandler Tuttle s 2081 in relation
to their characterization of the short story s namesake is an undertaking chock full of potential. These
two sources are very different in their representation of young Harrison and this serves to completely
skew one s preconceived understanding of his person, motivations, and desires. Due to this subtle but
significant variation one can come to the conclusion that the way an individual is portrayed and the
words they speak in different genres greatly manipulates others perception of their character. This is
evident when one analyzes the monologuing and shot choices of the short film or the descriptions and
dialogue in the story.
A satirical genius not recognized as such in his early years, Vonnegut published what is now a staple
in high school classrooms in 1961. This work is named for a character who appears only briefly, but in
that time creates a very strong impression; Harrison Bergeron is a fourteen year old boy who surpasses
most of society in every measurable quality. Vonnegut s brash description of Harrison depicts him as
some monstrous being of metal and sandbags, reminiscent of horror movie villains of times long past.
Despite his limited dialogue, the words Harrison speaks reinforce this image to a tee; he is a power
hungry beast of a boy. Victim to delusions of grandeur,

Foley Catheter • Explain The Procedure
How to insert a Foley catheter You must explain the process to the patient before you began. Most
patients are not used to inserting any object into their urethra. It is often described as painful or
uncomfortable. So out of respect for the patient, explain the steps of the procedure to him/her before
beginning. Ask the patient to lay on their back. The patient s legs should be spread and their feet
should be together. The patient laying on their back relaxes the bladder and urethra, making easier to
insert the catheter. You can even assist the patient getting into the supine position. Wash your hands
and put on sterile gloves. Wearing gloves are very important in the health care field, there are used to
protect you and the patient from bacteria. The sterile gloves help ensure that bacteria do not get into
the urethra and the patient bodily fluids do not come into contact with your hands. ... Show more

Deforestation Of The Tropical Rainforest
Deforestation of the tropical rainforest in Brazil and surrounding countries
I. Introduction
Tropical rainforests are unique ecosystems with specific features that make them a world patrimony.
Today about forests cover about 31% of the planet s land. However, 46 58 thousand square miles of
forest is destroyed yearly, equivalent to 36 football fields per minute. Besides its ecological value,
they provide several exploitable resources, which make these forests important in an economical
perspective. Most tropical rainforests in the world belong to developing countries, where deforestation
has been recently occurring at high rates due to the development of agribusiness. Brazil, which can

Figure 1: General biome classification map for Brazil. The darker green area is the Amazon forest.
Figure 2: Evolution of clear cut deforestation in Amazonia from 1988 to 2011. The reduction from
1988 until 1991 is attributed to the Brazil s economic recession, when the government lacked funds
for road construction and settlement projects. The peak in 1995 is a reflection of an economic
recovery in Brazil, and economic reforms increased the availability of capital. The fall in 1996 and
1997 is a result of falling land values and unattractive land speculation. The increase from 2001 to
2004 is a result of a sharp growth in the international market for soybeans and especially beef
(Fearnside, 2005). From this point, the oscillations between the deforestation rates can be explained by
the fluctuations of beef and soybean prices in the international market, the concession of land in the
agrarian reform (both increasing deforestation), a higher density of conservation units, and penalties
applied by the federal government (both decreasing deforestation).
Grasslands started to substitute rainforest areas in the Amazon for several reasons, and now cattle
ranching is one of the most lucrative activities in this region. The growth of soybean plantations is

Trophy Hunting Essay
Every year, trophy hunters kill tens of thousands of animals, some of them threatened or endangered,
exclusively for the thrill of bringing home a trophy . In order to acquire trophies, trophy hunters tend
to work with outfitters that arrange equipment, supplies, and often trained guides. This section will
further elaborate on the business of trophy hunting.
Working with a Trophy Hunting Outfitter
Trophy hunting outfitters facilitate trophy hunting outings and thereby make such outings accessible
to novices and experts alike, provided clients are willing to pay the often substantial financial fees.
Outfitters are often able to customize each trophy hunting trip to individual needs and can assist with
and advise clients about outing logistics with which they may not be familiar, including licensing and
permitting processes, identifying target species, recommending necessary equipment, and even
suggesting best hunting techniques. Established outfitters can provide an experienced guide that, in
most cases, helps garner a successful kill.
How Much Does it Cost?
Trophy hunting is an extremely expensive sport. Generally, the high price for a trophy hunting
packages includes travel, lodging, meals, on the ground hunting guides, permits, some supplies, and
preparing the kill for taxidermy. Equipment like hunting rifles, shotguns, bows, ammunition, shipment
of the kill, taxidermy, and gratuity are often considered additional costs. Some high profile hunt costs

Baseball And The American Civil War Essay
Baseball, a game played between two teams of nine on a field with a diamond shaped series of four
bases. A prestige and unique game that is played all over the world but most beloved in the United
States, hence, why people refer to it as the national pastime due to its tradition and popularity.
Baseball consists of many complex rules and an extended history. In order for one to fall in love with
the game such as America has, one must understand the rules and history of baseball. Baseball
originates back to 1800s, from a man named Abner Doubleday, who was a Union Officer during the
American Civil War. Some say he invented the game in Cooperstown, New York, in 1839. There s
limited amount of information and facts on Doubleday being the original creator of the game. A more
accurate response to the question of how baseball originates would be that many scholars believe that
baseball was invented way before we can tell. In ancient cultures, such as those of the Persians and
Egyptians, there is evidence of games being played with balls and sticks. Games similar to baseball
continued to be played by civilizations throughout history but it was not until the early 1600s that
Europeans first brought games involving a ball and a stick to the Americas. There were a number of
various games played with a ball and a stick but the one that most resembled baseball was an English
game called Rounders. The rules of Rounders are a lot simpler than the ones of modern day baseball
but it was from

Managing Strategic Change at the Hmv Group
Managing Strategic Change At The HMV Group |
1. Introduction HMV Group announced a three year strategic and operational review in March 2007.
The primary purpose of this dissertation is to analyse the methods used to manage this strategic
change and to discuss alternatives. The secondary focus is to assess the decision to change. At a time
of change, much focus is placed upon developing strategy and not enough on the implementation and
management side. It is possible that a perfect strategy for a situation is wasted by poor
implementation. A specific strategy can be developed over night, however; successful strategy
implementation is a much longer process. In order to analyse HMV Group s change management
efforts, it is crucial to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ParadoxThere are many paradoxical issues present in change management. Just one manifestation of
this would be middle managers withholding information they are given to disseminate because they
wish to retain their knowledgeable image; defeating the point of a middle manager. Michael E Raynor
(2007) in his book entitled The Strategy Paradox presents the idea that a successful strategy requires
the full commitment of the organisation, which leads to unsuccessful performance overall; due to over
commitment. Flood and Dresher s (1950) Prisoners Dilemma, applied to the world of business, will
also conclude that non competition is the most effective path in the long run. Both imply that strong
competition efforts eventually lead to failure that mediocrity is the best route to follow as companies
have a silent agreement to operate in a state of equilibrium. However, in the case of HMV Group, its
operating industry is in decline; therefore failure is the only eventuality of a failure to compete.
ContextAs identified above, much of the literature on the subject of managing strategic change has an
element of paradox attached to it. The logical reason for this is that different methods depend on the
circumstances the organisation is faced with. As there are no exact laws of change management, this is
what makes the subject complex; but more interesting. Most of the literature aims to provide a theory
for each and every eventuality;

A key term used when describing the exhibition space is mise en scène . Mise en scène is an
expression used to describe the design aspects of a theatre or film production, which means visual

cinematography and stage design, and in poetically artful ways through direction. It is also commonly
used to refer to multiple single scenes within the film to represent the film. This is particularly the case
in this show as each room has a different look and feel like one would experience in a theatre; for
example the Main Stage has a very different look and feel that the Backstage area. The Main Stage is
particularly evocative of the shows aims and provides a centre point for the show especially the main

Third Grade Classroom Observation
For my observation, I observed a first to third grade special day class at a public Fresno Unified
School District classroom in Fresno, California. When I first entered the classroom all the students,
approximately 10 students, were sitting down on the rug in front of the class as the teacher was
reading a short story to them. When she finished they would go over their reading assignment.
For the first half an hour, I could see that the students in the back had a difficult time sitting still in the
crisscross position on the rug. One student would frequently stand up on his knees, lie down on the
rug, or spin himself in a circle. During this time I noticed that most of the students who also sat in the
back row on the rug was talking to their peers, while one student stayed quiet and entertained himself
with hyperactivity movements, sucking on his thumb, or playing with his shoelaces. When the teacher
finishes her explanation of the butterfly life cycle, a student quietly raised his hand and asks her if he
would be able to create a human life cycle instead.
I chose to observe a young Caucasian male student, around seven or eight years old. I also do not have

Super Power Should Have More Benefits Of Power
At some point in our lives, we all wished we had super powers. Most of us grew up watching movies
like Superman or The Incredibles, which awakened in us the desire to have their abilities. I used to
imagine how different, easy and awesome my life would be if I were to have super powers, but I never
thought on which one would I prefer if I were told to pick just one. It is indeed a difficult answer,
since there are so many choices of useful and incredible powers; but I would say that having
Superhuman Speed is the most convenient and valuable of them all. Being super fast has more
benefits than any other power because it does not only include super speed but also time traveling,

sneak out from your house and go to the party your parents did not allow you to go to, and they would

Having super human speed gives you more than just the ability to run fast, but the opportunity to do

Deregulation Of The Trucking Industry
The deregulation of the trucking industry began with the Motor Carrier Act of 1980, which was
marked into law by President Carter on July 1, 1980.A division of the U.S. Department of
Transportation, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulates nearly all aspects
of the trucking industry.
1935 Motor Carrier Act (MCA) established two classes of carriers, private and exempt, that would not
be subject to ICC price regulation. Two classes subject to operating authority and safety regulation
only. Private exemption allowed companies with product to ship to get their own trucks and drivers,
and move their own product

With increase in trucking companies, problem of heavy carbon dioxide emission in environment will
arrive sooner than expected
Conclusion:
Deregulation of the trucking industry has resulted in more competition and efficiency without of
service cutbacks to smaller shippers, freeing up the trucking market to permit much more flexible
pricing and service arrangements, allowed manufacturers to reduce inventories, move their products
more quickly, and be more responsive to customers. Thus, Consumers indirectly benefited from the
more efficient, lower cost transport of goods
In my opinion following major changes USA will experience in near future due to deregulation:
Total cost is going to be rise high for shippers as well as for carriers, since they will compete for
drivers with best safety score.
A problem of Driver shortages will hit truck industry sooner than expected
Safety is going to be the top most priority of carriers
Quality of service is not going to suffered due to deregulation
My recommendation on this scenario would be greater economic efficiencies can be achieved by
increasing truck size and weight carrying capacity of truck which would boost the economy in general
and would also help to reduce carbon foot

What Is Harriet Tubman s Greatest Achievement
I had reasoned this out in my mind, there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty or death; if I
couldn t have one, I would have the other. Harriet Tubman was born into slavery and was a tough girl
who always tried to help others. Once she helped another slave when she was twelve, and she got hit
on the head with a two pound weight. Throughout her lifetime she will face reoccurring blackouts
from this. She escaped to freedom in 1849 after her master died. She returned at least eight times to
the South through the next 11 years after she escaped to help other slaves to freedom, usually her

The Silicon Valley area became a major manufacturing power after World War II. The Cold War
furthered this development, as industries involved in defense, aerospace, steel, oil, automobiles, and so

Terror Management Theory
Introduction Psych 317
As humans, we are unique from animals in many ways. We have an internal guidance system called a
conscience that allows us to think and act in a way close to our deepest values. We have an
independent will that does not allow genetic influences or the environment to dictate our actions. We
have an infinite creative imagination that allows us to create beyond our reality but perhaps the most
uniquely human endowment we all possess is self awareness. Self awareness is the recognition of how

While this study suggests that there is no need to be around similar people during times of
vulnerability, the researchers recognize that the individuals in these groups were mere observers and
not actually interacting with each other.
Another hypothesis that emerged from TMT research is the anxiety buffer hypothesis. This hypothesis
stresses the importance of high self esteem and how it can shield individuals from experiencing death
anxiety. Individuals with high self esteem feel that they are an ideal example of their culture and enjoy
the protection from the mortality concerns that their culture offers (Hirschberger et al., 2002).
Studies that exemplify the anxiety buffer hypothesis are those that link TMT and risky sexual
behaviors. In a 2004 study, researchers noted that by making mortality salient, a willingness to engage
in life threatening behaviors, such as unsafe sex, was reported (Orit Taubman, Ben Ari). This study
suggests that engaging in risky sex represents two facets of vulnerability related to the threat of death.
One is the absolute fear or extermination which is associated to having the risky sex and the other is
the need to love and have intimacy, a uniquely human trait that is related to self esteem. Basically,
when faced with mortality, humans yearn to fulfill their basic needs of love, even if that means risking
life itself (Orit Taubman,

Theme Of Innocence In Sense And Sensibility
Finally, in Austen s Sense and Sensibility the idea of Innocence is embodied in the figure of Marianne,
as we can see in several passages of the text: Beyond you three, is there a creature in the world whom
I would not rather suspect of evil than Willoughby, whose heart I know so well? Elinor would not
contend, and only replied, Whoever may have been so detestably your enemy, let them be cheated of
their malignant triumph, my dear sister, by seeing how nobly the consciousness of your own
innocence and good intentions supports your spirits. It is a reasonable and laudable pride which resists
such malevolence. (Austen 140) Marianne is almost a child, she is only seventeen, and thus she is
characterized by her purity, naïveté, innocence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the child has a wider overview of the world given that he has not lost the innocence that characterizes
him; there is something magical, pure and divine in a child s vision of the world and that is what the

Rhys has successfully give the view of misogyny through her husband s eyes and voice. His treatment

Redefining gender roles in North and south by Elizabeth Gaskell
North and south is considered as the significant piece of Victorian literature, written by Elizabeth
Gaskell. Elizabeth Gaskell was a novelist and short story writer. Her stories usually have a
contemporary attitude she emphasized more on the women s role, complex and realistic female
characters. North and south is considered as her best known work .It features a strong lead female ,a
mature love story and relevant social and political explanation about industrialization and class
conflict present in mid 19th century in England. Through, North and south, Elizabeth Gaskell
challenges the limiting gender roles of the Victorian era , by giving her heroin , Margaret both the
feminine qualities of virtue and selflessness and Masculine qualities of independence and action .
Gaskell perfectly balances her heroin between feminine and the masculine world as to not to appear
unwomanly and subtly influence the readers and call for changing gender norms. During Victorian era
novelist had to develop ways to avoid posing as threats to the order of the society . Something which
even make the look anti feminist, but still many of female writers of that period are known today for
their early feminist agendas embedded in their works. Elizabeth Gaskell was one of Britain s best

Analysis Of Maddy Whittier s Life
Eighteen year old Maddy Whittier lives her life in a bit of a bubble. This can be a cliché for some
people but for Maddy, it s much more than that. SCID is the acronym for Severe Combined Immune

germs and contamination that can lead to death. This describes Maddy s world where she lives at
home with her mother Pauline (who is also her doctor) and Carla, her long time nurse and friend.
Maddy seems resigned to a lifetime of books, movies, and board games in her sterile but safe home.

A Brief Note On Diamond Blackfan Anemia ( Dba ) Is A Rare...
Diamond Blackfan anemia (DBA) is a rare genetic disease that causes defects in the ribosomal
structure (Farber, 2016). The disease stems from a decrease in the production of erythroid precursors
in the bone marrow, which results in an extremely low red blood cell count. Due to the reduction in
the production of erythrocytes, most individuals diagnosed with this disease develop an array of issues
that can be life threatening such as a predisposition to cancer and bone marrow failure. Within the first
year of life, most symptoms of DBA will appear in most individuals (Ellis, 2014). The importance of
understanding the genetics of DBA remains a priority in reducing the number of infants affected by a
detrimental hereditary blood disorder.
After the first description of DBA by Josephs, the disease was further studied and analyzed by Louis
Diamond and Kenneth Blackfan in 1938 (Anupama Narla, 2011). Since Diamond and Blackfan
discovered a lot of information on the disease through research, the disease was named after both
doctors. Most of the families affected by DBA appear to pass the genetic mutation in a dominant
manner. Though several genes have been identified in the development of DBA, mutations in the
RPS19 gene has been linked to more cases of DBA. The RPS19 gene helps to produce certain
ribosomal factors that are used in ribonucleic acid processing. Ribosomes are responsible for
producing proteins on a cellular level. This mutation leads to the inability of

How Did Alexander Hamilton Influence Today
In the late 1700s, Alexander Hamilton was appointed Secretary of Treasury by George Washington. It
can be assessed whether or not Alexander Hamilton was more influential than George Washington in
those first years under the Constitution. Alexander Hamilton set up multiple ways to pay off the nation
s immense debt. Hamilton founded the Bank of the United States which is known today as the Federal
Reserve System. Hamilton influence also extended into making the United States a commercial nation
instead of an agrarian one. George Washington s influential years came before the constitution, before
and during the American Revolution. Alexander Hamilton was more influential than George
Washington in the first years under the constitution because he was the leading force in trying to pay
off America s debt, he set up the united bank and commercial nation still used today, and George

Hamilton had a vast majority of ideas; from combining state and national debt to the whiskey tax.
Now, these two examples had a fair amount of opposition, but each was adopted. Combining state and
national debt not only forced every American citizen, no matter if their state had paid off their debt or
not, to pay taxes and gave the government more money. This financial plan also gave the government
itself stronger, more steady footing in running the new country.
The Bank of the United States was mainly protested because of its modelling after the Bank of
England. Hamilton s main purpose of founding this bank was to prevent inflation. This was done by
having the bank issue currency so that Congress did not print off more money to pay off debt and
cause inflation. The Bank of the United States shows explicitly how influential Hamilton was during
this time because this bank stabilized the country then and is known as the Federal Reserve System

In the romance Silence, Silence is drawn between which gender to associate herself as. Throughout
the story Silence is found drawn between nature and nurture. She shows the reader that gender is not
only based on biological aspects. She accomplishes much as a knight and is able to disprove the idea
that only men can complete certain tasks, therefor fighting for women rights. Silence struggles with
handling certain situations due to her biological gender, and ultimately comes to the conclusion that a
persons biological gender overcomes the gender one assumes when nurtured in that fashion. The
romance shows the influence of gender in regards to nature and the way one is nurtured, furthermore

After many attempts and advances by Queen Eufeme the narrator describes Silence as, the youth who
is a girl (3785). While this is Sarah Roche Mahdi s translation many others translate Et li values qui
est mescine (3785) as the boy who is a girl . This shows that the narrator prefers referring to Silence
with a masculine gender. This is also seen through the narrators use of gender pronouns, using he/his
to refer to Silence. This passage hints to the reader that in fact appearance, behavior, and
accomplishments reveal gender more than Silence s biologically sex. Due to gender being seen as
binary in medieval times, Silence struggles determine the appropriate way to behave. This is seen
when Queen Eufeme makes advances on him and he is confused on how to react, because his true
gender is ambiguous since in society, in medieval times, gender was depended on genitalia and the
ability to reproduce. It is obvious to the reader that Silence can not reproduce making his situation
with Queen Eufeme so awkward. The theme of suppressing natural impulses is very common is Old
French literature. It is seen in Chretien de Troyes Perceval when a hero tries to suppress his impulse
for compassion in order to fulfill what he believed to have been courtly behaviors. This is very similar
to Silence s situation

In other words, what is best and most successful is to never go out of business to have one event s

Selecting Proprietary, Open Source, or Free Software for Business Information Systems
At first glance, the question above would probably lead you to believe that proprietary software
should be the obvious choice when selecting between the different types simply because of the
reference to the words most important. You could also look at the definitions of the three and be
convinced that proprietary software seems to be more compelling than the rest. However, with the
recent developments with software in general, I would have to agree with those that argue that open
source should be the first choice for any kind of software, and that considering proprietary software
should only be an option if it has very specific and valuable features ... Show more content on

If this is the case, then why would a company choose proprietary software when even its own
developers are starting to realize that they themselves may benefit more from buying into the open
source model? While researching the question posed, and trying to get a better understanding of all the
different types of software, I came across many arguments of open vs. proprietary. Many of the
arguments that I read, the writers all had good information to support their opinion of which type of
software they thought was best. One article that I found interesting was posted on a website
(http://www.geekzone.co.nz/foobar/5204), and it proposed that the debate of Open source vs.
Proprietary be turned around to Proprietary software vs. Open . The writer of this article posed the
question, Why is proprietary the default and not open source? After carefully researching the different
types of software, I found myself asking the same question. If you look closely at all of the so called
compelling advantages that people tend to think proprietary software has over open, you would clearly
see that they aren t all that compelling. One of the arguments raised has to do with support. There is
this belief that proprietary software offers better support......is this only because many consumers feel
that if they pay top dollar for a product they in turn

A Summary Of The Film Iron Jawed Angels
Women have been fighting for equal rights for quite some time here in the United States. As stated in
Chapter 3 of Gendered Lives by Julia T. Wood and Natalie Fixmer Oraiz, there have been three waves
of women s movements in the United States alone. The first wave starting as early as 1840, and the
third wave still continuing to this very day. However, the first wave, that started in the 1840 s and
lasted until around the 1960 s will be the main focus of this paper. This first wave came about as an
ideology of liberal feminism. Fixmer Oraiz and Wood describes liberal feminism as the idea that
women and men are alike and equal in most respects. Therefore, goes the reasoning they should have
equal rights, roles, and opportunities (Gendered Lives, p58). The ideology of liberal feminism is
represented profoundly, especially as far as women rights to vote, in the 2004 film Iron Jawed Angels.
This paper aims to discuss the first wave of women s movements in the United States as represented in
the movie Iron Jawed Angels, as well as the impact of this movement on gender, and an emotional
reaction to the movie itself. Before discussing the movie, a brief summary of the first wave, and what
it entailed will be provided. The main focus of the first wave was to gain basic civil rights for women.
According to Fixmer Oraiz and Wood it all started when Lucretia Coffin Mott and Elizabeth Cady
Stanton met at an international antislavery convention and were both denied entry based on

Research Paper On Jack The Ripper
Over a hundred and twenty five years later Jack the Ripper, a murderer from the East End of London,
who has yet to be found and more than likely to be dead by now, still rings bells of interest as well as
terror all over the world. His case is known as The Whitechapel Murders, and has yet to be solved.
During the era in which Ripper was active, there were eleven murders committed in London; however,
the Ripper is only believed to be directly responsible for five of these victims ( The Whitechapel
Murder Victims ). Although his well known name has rung bells for over a century, many still
question how he has remained so famous in the first place. Understandably so, since unquestionably
there have been more massive serial killers since Rippers era, being that Rippers accreditation is only
to five victims killed within a twelve or so week period. On the other hand, to understand why Ripper
is still so famous, it is essential to understand his killings beyond the surface. It is not just how many
he murdered, but where he killed, the name for which he became known as, and the simple fact that
people still want answers.
Understanding where the Ripper killed and why it plays such an important role in his case is the first
part of going beyond the surface. Many know that Jack the Ripper is a murderer from the East End of
London, who killed near Whitechapel Road, that as valid as it is, remains only a simple fact. People
fail to realize there is more to the story than that.

National Debt Is Necessary For The Funding Of Federal...
National debt is necessary for the funding of federal programs. Government spending is not only a
focus of the United State s political system, but it affects one s personal choices and lifestyle. There is
a concern with where and why money is spent. A key aspect of government spending is allocated to
education. Education is fundamental in how one benefits society and the economy. The United States
education program is not only necessary for the success of the country, but it is in need of a more
efficient system with increased funding. Education is the foundation of a person s success and way of
life. Graduating from school is important not only for an individual, but it helps the local and national
economy. A study by the Alliance for Excellent Education shows that with higher graduation rates
among high school students, the economies of cities, states, and of the country would increase
(Rollins). Compared to the rest of the world, the United States spends a large amount of money on
education (U.S. Education). While many may think this sufficient, Professor Bruce Baker discusses
the correlation between supporting schools with federal funding and the success of students, When
schools have more money, they have greater opportunity to spend productively. When they don t, they
can t (ii, Baker). If students are to graduate and contribute to the boost of economies, education must
be the forefront of federal funding. The United States is spending what seems to be like

Compare Fahrenheit 451 And Lamb To The Slaughter
She s Had Enough
Does the strength of a marriage have any influence on the length one spouse will go to to protect the
other? Mildred, in Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, and Mary, in Lamb to the Slaughter, a short story
by Roald Dahl, both have marriages that are falling apart. This eventually led both of the wives to
betray their husbands. While some differences between Mildred and Mary are evident, the similarities
are striking. Mildred embraced the bizarre norms of her dystopian society, and Mary defied the typical
role of a 1960 s wife. In both stories, the fragility of their marriages ultimately caused both wives to
betray their husbands in fatal ways.
In both the novel and the short story, Mary and Mildred s marriages are collapsing. Although both
Mary and Mildred may recognize that their marriages are weak, both pretend that everything is fine.
In Fahrenheit 451, Montag, Mildred s husband, realizes that he and Mildred don t know much about
each other and he says, Funny, how funny, not to remember where or when you met your husband r
wife (Bradbury 43). This scene doesn t faze Mildred as she can t comprehend the failure of their
marriage. Similarly, in Lamb to the Slaughter, Mary s marriage continues to crumble as Patrick comes
home and says, I know it s kind of a bad time to be telling you, but there is simply no other way which
implies that he has bad news for her. Patrick then tells Mary that he wants a divorce (Dahl 381). Just

  • 2. How Did The Scientists Make A Big Difference In The World Scientists make a big difference in the world. Albert Einstein was one of the greatest scientists in history. Einstein added to the world with his brilliant knowledge. I would emulate Albert Einstein because he made a difference in the world through his knowledge, curiosity, and commitment to science. Einstein was a very smart scholar. When the US found out that the German scientists might win the race to build an atomic bomb, Einstein was asked to write a letter to President Roosevelt recommending that the US pay attention and engage in its own nuclear weapon research. As a result of Einstein s letter and his meetings with Roosevelt, the U.S. entered the race to develop the atomic bomb. This was known as the Manhattan project. Soon after ... • 3. Review Of The Hound Of Baskerville Hound of Baskerville In the world of detective shows and movies there are six simple rules. The first rule is the crime must be significant. Second, the detective must be memorable. Third, the criminal must be a worthy opponent. Fourth, the clues must be made available to the viewer. Fifth, the suspect must appear early in the story, and sixth, the solution must be reasonable and possible. In BBC s Sherlock episode, The Hound of Baskerville, it shows all six of these rule extremely well. In the show, rule one is revealed a little later in the story. After Sherlock got back from whatever he was doing he was itching for a new case and the only offer he had was the mystery of the missing rabbit that glowed in the dark. Then there was a doorbell and walks in Henry Knight with a interesting case for Sherlock. Henry explains that his father was slaughtered in front of him as a child and was convinced that the monster was created in Baskerville. This leaded straight to a murder mystery case, making the crime significant. Rule number two is pretty obvious since it s a Sherlock Holmes TV show making him the memorable detective, but what he does makes him even more memorable than just being the main character in the TV show. He is brilliant and can solve cases like no one else. He picks up clues that no one normally sees. In this episode, he connects the glowing rabbit case with the hound of Baskerville case. He also picks up on things like when Henry Knight said hound instead of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Reparation for the Non-Compensated Group in the District... During the Suriname Guerrilla War between 1986 and 1992 between the Jungle commando led by Ronnie Brunswijk and the Surinamese military team headed by Desi Bouterse, the human rights of the people who were living in the tribal communities in the district of Marowijne were consistently being violated. However a peace agreement had been signed in France Guiana in May 1992, the American Court of Human Rights sentenced the government of Suriname of committing actions against human rights and ordered the state to start an investigation to compensate the civilians of the massacre in the Moiwana village on November 29, 1986 in Marowijne (Inter American Court of Human Rights 2006). Despite the Miowana village however, there were other villages ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However the actions against human rights in this village draw much more attention, because of the killing of 39 community members, mostly women and children, in a search for the guerrilla leader Ronny Brunswijk. However taking the customary laws, usage, values and mores in consideration the term traditional territories does not only refer to a particular village site, but also to the areas according to the N Djuka customary law which reaches to the upper Tapanahony river in the district of Sipaliwini. Unfortunately, the Inter American Court of Human Rights did not include the N Djuka community members living in other villages rather than Moiwana and its members in her judgment. On the other hand community members of Moiwana living in French Guiana were also taken in consideration by the judgment. In August 2005 the government of Suriname was ordered to pay 13 million USD to 130 survivors and to establish a community fund (1.2 million USD) to enhance the development of Moiwana (Sloover 2005). The non compensated group or the left out group is in this case the communities who did not find justice yet after the maltreatment and killings of community members in the earlier mentioned guerrilla war. Even though some of the livelihoods were separated from each other and were lived by one or two families whose human rights had been violated, similar Judgments as the Moiwana case can be applied to the group on ... • 5. LRINEC Score Blood sampling is also useful, and protein and cell levels can be used to calculate a LRINEC score. LRINEC stands for Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotizing Fasciitis and is a great tool for distinguishing common skin infections from necrotizing fasciitis. In addition, its score is used to determine if immediate surgical debridement is necessary. Measurements included in the LRINEC score is C reaction protein, white blood cell count, hemoglobin, sodium, creatinine, and glucose (16). CRP levels vary drastically among cellulitis and necrotizing fasciitis. • 6. Globalization And The Global Economy For many of the world s population, the growing integration of the global economy has provided the opportunity for substantial income growth. This is reflected not only in higher incomes, but also in the improved availability of better quality and increasingly differentiated final products. However, at the same time, globalization has had its dark side. There has been an increasing tendency towards growing equalization within and between countries and a stubborn incidence in the absolute levels of poverty, not just in poor countries. These positive and negative attributes of globalization have been experienced at a number of different levels the individual, the household, the firm, the town, the region, the sector and the nation. The distributional pattern emerging in recent decades of globalization is thus simultaneously heterogeneous and complex. If those who had lost from globalization had been confined to the non participants, the policy implications would be clear take every step to be an active participant in global production and trade. However, the challenge is much more daunting than this, since the losers include many of those who have participated actively in the process of global integration. Hence, there is a need to manage the mode of insertion into the global economy, to ensure that incomes are not reduced or further polarized. Many factors associated with globalization will affect the distribution returns. For example, macro economic disturbances ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Srutinize The Quote From Heilbroner And Milberg Scrutinize the Quote from Heilbroner/Milberg The evolution of the market economy has its roots in tradition and command systems. Even today, market economies rely on practices that have a resemblance to those of the middle ages and antiquity. If a person of yester years were exposed to the workings of the free market, they would be baffled with how resources are allocated to the right places especially labor and production. The beginnings of the economic society are traced to the relatable but separate problems that the society faced: the production of sufficient goods and services that would ensure the survival of the society and the organization of production output to make certain that there is more production (Heilbroner and Milberg 4). All medieval societies sought for ways to deal with these problems. Through history, humankind has tried to solve the problems of production and distribution in three ways: tradition, command and market economies (Heilbroner and Milberg 6). All these solutions are relatable to each other with some aspects of each overarching on the others. For the tradition solution, it focused on solving the issue of production. Each member of the society had their role predefined similar to their parents occupations. Notably, sons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These forces of evolution range from the nomadic merchant, urbanization, the religious crusades, the amalgamation of political and economic power, exploration, the changing currents of the religious climate, Calvinism, the collapse of the manorial system, and the emergence of the cash economy (Heilbroner and Milberg 32 41). • 8. Characterization Of Harrison Bergeron In 2081 And Harrison... Characterization of Harrison Bergeron in 2081 and Harrison Bergeron Comparing and contrasting Kurt Vonnegut s Harrison Bergeron and Chandler Tuttle s 2081 in relation to their characterization of the short story s namesake is an undertaking chock full of potential. These two sources are very different in their representation of young Harrison and this serves to completely skew one s preconceived understanding of his person, motivations, and desires. Due to this subtle but significant variation one can come to the conclusion that the way an individual is portrayed and the words they speak in different genres greatly manipulates others perception of their character. This is evident when one analyzes the monologuing and shot choices of the short film or the descriptions and dialogue in the story. A satirical genius not recognized as such in his early years, Vonnegut published what is now a staple in high school classrooms in 1961. This work is named for a character who appears only briefly, but in that time creates a very strong impression; Harrison Bergeron is a fourteen year old boy who surpasses most of society in every measurable quality. Vonnegut s brash description of Harrison depicts him as some monstrous being of metal and sandbags, reminiscent of horror movie villains of times long past. Despite his limited dialogue, the words Harrison speaks reinforce this image to a tee; he is a power hungry beast of a boy. Victim to delusions of grandeur, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Foley Catheter • Explain The Procedure How to insert a Foley catheter You must explain the process to the patient before you began. Most patients are not used to inserting any object into their urethra. It is often described as painful or uncomfortable. So out of respect for the patient, explain the steps of the procedure to him/her before beginning. Ask the patient to lay on their back. • 10. Deforestation Of The Tropical Rainforest Deforestation of the tropical rainforest in Brazil and surrounding countries I. Introduction Tropical rainforests are unique ecosystems with specific features that make them a world patrimony. Today about forests cover about 31% of the planet s land. However, 46 58 thousand square miles of forest is destroyed yearly, equivalent to 36 football fields per minute. Besides its ecological value, they provide several exploitable resources, which make these forests important in an economical perspective. Figure 1: General biome classification map for Brazil. The darker green area is the Amazon forest. Figure 2: Evolution of clear cut deforestation in Amazonia from 1988 to 2011. The reduction from 1988 until 1991 is attributed to the Brazil s economic recession, when the government lacked funds for road construction and settlement projects. The peak in 1995 is a reflection of an economic recovery in Brazil, and economic reforms increased the availability of capital. The fall in 1996 and 1997 is a result of falling land values and unattractive land speculation. The increase from 2001 to 2004 is a result of a sharp growth in the international market for soybeans and especially beef (Fearnside, 2005). From this point, the oscillations between the deforestation rates can be explained by the fluctuations of beef and soybean prices in the international market, the concession of land in the agrarian reform (both increasing deforestation), a higher density of conservation units, and penalties applied by the federal government (both decreasing deforestation). Grasslands started to substitute rainforest areas in the Amazon for several reasons, and now cattle ranching is one of the most lucrative activities in this region. • 11. Trophy Hunting Essay Every year, trophy hunters kill tens of thousands of animals, some of them threatened or endangered, exclusively for the thrill of bringing home a trophy . In order to acquire trophies, trophy hunters tend to work with outfitters that arrange equipment, supplies, and often trained guides. This section will further elaborate on the business of trophy hunting. Working with a Trophy Hunting Outfitter Trophy hunting outfitters facilitate trophy hunting outings and thereby make such outings accessible to novices and experts alike, provided clients are willing to pay the often substantial financial fees. Outfitters are often able to customize each trophy hunting trip to individual needs and can assist with and advise clients about outing logistics with which they may not be familiar, including licensing and permitting processes, identifying target species, recommending necessary equipment, and even suggesting best hunting techniques. Established outfitters can provide an experienced guide that, in most cases, helps garner a successful kill. How Much Does it Cost? Trophy hunting is an extremely expensive sport. A prestige and unique game that is played all over the world but most beloved in the United States, hence, why people refer to it as the national pastime due to its tradition and popularity. Baseball consists of many complex rules and an extended history. In order for one to fall in love with the game such as America has, one must understand the rules and history of baseball. Baseball originates back to 1800s, from a man named Abner Doubleday, who was a Union Officer during the American Civil War. Some say he invented the game in Cooperstown, New York, in 1839. There s limited amount of information and facts on Doubleday being the original creator of the game. A more accurate response to the question of how baseball originates would be that many scholars believe that baseball was invented way before we can tell. In ancient cultures, such as those of the Persians and Egyptians, there is evidence of games being played with balls and sticks. Games similar to baseball continued to be played by civilizations throughout history but it was not until the early 1600s that Europeans first brought games involving a ball and a stick to the Americas. There were a number of various games played with a ball and a stick but the one that most resembled baseball was an English game called Rounders. The primary purpose of this dissertation is to analyse the methods used to manage this strategic change and to discuss alternatives. The secondary focus is to assess the decision to change. At a time of change, much focus is placed upon developing strategy and not enough on the implementation and management side. It is possible that a perfect strategy for a situation is wasted by poor implementation. A specific strategy can be developed over night, however; successful strategy implementation is a much longer process. In order to analyse HMV Group s change management efforts, it is crucial to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ParadoxThere are many paradoxical issues present in change management. Just one manifestation of this would be middle managers withholding information they are given to disseminate because they wish to retain their knowledgeable image; defeating the point of a middle manager. Michael E Raynor (2007) in his book entitled The Strategy Paradox presents the idea that a successful strategy requires the full commitment of the organisation, which leads to unsuccessful performance overall; due to over commitment. Flood and Dresher s (1950) Prisoners Dilemma, applied to the world of business, will also conclude that non competition is the most effective path in the long run. Both imply that strong competition efforts eventually lead to failure that mediocrity is the best route to follow as companies have a silent agreement to operate in a state of equilibrium. However, in the case of HMV Group, its operating industry is in decline; therefore failure is the only eventuality of a failure to compete. ContextAs identified above, much of the literature on the subject of managing strategic change has an element of paradox attached to it. The logical reason for this is that different methods depend on the circumstances the organisation is faced with. As there are no exact laws of change management, this is what makes the subject complex; but more interesting. Most of the literature aims to provide a theory for each and every eventuality; ... While this study suggests that there is no need to be around similar people during times of vulnerability, the researchers recognize that the individuals in these groups were mere observers and not actually interacting with each other. Another hypothesis that emerged from TMT research is the anxiety buffer hypothesis. This hypothesis stresses the importance of high self esteem and how it can shield individuals from experiencing death anxiety. Individuals with high self esteem feel that they are an ideal example of their culture and enjoy the protection from the mortality concerns that their culture offers (Hirschberger et al., 2002). Studies that exemplify the anxiety buffer hypothesis are those that link TMT and risky sexual behaviors. In a 2004 study, researchers noted that by making mortality salient, a willingness to engage in life threatening behaviors, such as unsafe sex, was reported (Orit Taubman, Ben Ari). This study suggests that engaging in risky sex represents two facets of vulnerability related to the threat of death. One is the absolute fear or extermination which is associated to having the risky sex and the other is the need to love and have intimacy, a uniquely human trait that is related to self esteem. Basically, when faced with mortality, humans yearn to fulfill their basic needs of love, even if that means risking life itself (Orit Taubman, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. A Brief Note On Diamond Blackfan Anemia ( Dba ) Is A Rare... Diamond Blackfan anemia (DBA) is a rare genetic disease that causes defects in the ribosomal structure (Farber, 2016). The disease stems from a decrease in the production of erythroid precursors in the bone marrow, which results in an extremely low red blood cell count. Due to the reduction in the production of erythrocytes, most individuals diagnosed with this disease develop an array of issues that can be life threatening such as a predisposition to cancer and bone marrow failure. Within the first year of life, most symptoms of DBA will appear in most individuals (Ellis, 2014). The importance of understanding the genetics of DBA remains a priority in reducing the number of infants affected by a detrimental hereditary blood disorder. After the first description of DBA by Josephs, the disease was further studied and analyzed by Louis Diamond and Kenneth Blackfan in 1938 (Anupama Narla, 2011). Since Diamond and Blackfan discovered a lot of information on the disease through research, the disease was named after both doctors. Most of the families affected by DBA appear to pass the genetic mutation in a dominant manner. Though several genes have been identified in the development of DBA, mutations in the RPS19 gene has been linked to more cases of DBA. This shows that the narrator prefers referring to Silence with a masculine gender. This is also seen through the narrators use of gender pronouns, using he/his to refer to Silence. This passage hints to the reader that in fact appearance, behavior, and accomplishments reveal gender more than Silence s biologically sex. Due to gender being seen as binary in medieval times, Silence struggles determine the appropriate way to behave. It is obvious to the reader that Silence can not reproduce making his situation with Queen Eufeme so awkward. The theme of suppressing natural impulses is very common is Old French literature. It is seen in Chretien de Troyes Perceval when a hero tries to suppress his impulse for compassion in order to fulfill what he believed to have been courtly behaviors. This is very similar to Silence s situation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In other words, what is best and most successful is to never go out of business to have one event s conclusion lead directly into the next event s preplanning. This is the best way for organizations to continue to improve, reduce burnout of staff, and break the cycle of reinventing the wheel. In fact, the more you follow planning as a continuum from one event to the next, the easier it gets to achieve success. 1. Forming a team and assigning Tasks First, running an event alone can be very difficult, so it s important to recruit others to help. Be sure the members of the organization are invested in sponsoring the event. They will be more likely to follow through and participate in all the planning details if they feel a sense of ownership for the event. Designate a chair person for the event to coordinate and supervise the entire process. Be sure that all of your team to fill out all the proper forms and obtain signatures. • 31. Health Savings Account Are Health Savings Accounts Working Effectively? Health savings accounts were originally created to encourage people to have control over how their money was spent on their healthcare. If the funding was coming from their private source than people would be less likely to use unneeded treatments or investigate costs prior to utilizing, to get the most from their money. Similar to the idea of when people use cash for their spending in place of plastic, credit or debit cards. People tend to be more frugal with their spending with cash. The first year my premium went down to $121.78 a biweekly paycheck. The high deductible was $2000. My employer paid $1000.00 and once deductible was met all costs under insurance were covered. Selecting Proprietary, Open Source, or Free Software for Business Information Systems At first glance, the question above would probably lead you to believe that proprietary software should be the obvious choice when selecting between the different types simply because of the reference to the words most important. You could also look at the definitions of the three and be convinced that proprietary software seems to be more compelling than the rest. However, with the recent developments with software in general, I would have to agree with those that argue that open source should be the first choice for any kind of software, and that considering proprietary software should only be an option if it has very specific and valuable features ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [4] If this is the case, then why would a company choose proprietary software when even its own developers are starting to realize that they themselves may benefit more from buying into the open source model? While researching the question posed, and trying to get a better understanding of all the different types of software, I came across many arguments of open vs. proprietary. Many of the arguments that I read, the writers all had good information to support their opinion of which type of software they thought was best. One article that I found interesting was posted on a website (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/foobar/5204), and it proposed that the debate of Open source vs. Proprietary be turned around to Proprietary software vs. Open . The writer of this article posed the question, Why is proprietary the default and not open source? After carefully researching the different types of software, I found myself asking the same question. If you look closely at all of the so called compelling advantages that people tend to think proprietary software has over open, you would clearly see that they aren t all that compelling. One of the arguments raised has to do with support. There is this belief that proprietary software offers better support......is this only because many consumers feel that if they pay top dollar for a product they in turn ... • 33. A Summary Of The Film Iron Jawed Angels Women have been fighting for equal rights for quite some time here in the United States. As stated in Chapter 3 of Gendered Lives by Julia T. Wood and Natalie Fixmer Oraiz, there have been three waves of women s movements in the United States alone. The first wave starting as early as 1840, and the third wave still continuing to this very day. However, the first wave, that started in the 1840 s and lasted until around the 1960 s will be the main focus of this paper. This first wave came about as an ideology of liberal feminism. Fixmer Oraiz and Wood describes liberal feminism as the idea that women and men are alike and equal in most respects. Therefore, goes the reasoning they should have equal rights, roles, and opportunities (Gendered Lives, p58). The ideology of liberal feminism is represented profoundly, especially as far as women rights to vote, in the 2004 film Iron Jawed Angels. This paper aims to discuss the first wave of women s movements in the United States as represented in the movie Iron Jawed Angels, as well as the impact of this movement on gender, and an emotional reaction to the movie itself. Before discussing the movie, a brief summary of the first wave, and what it entailed will be provided. The main focus of the first wave was to gain basic civil rights for women. According to Fixmer Oraiz and Wood it all started when Lucretia Coffin Mott and Elizabeth Cady Stanton met at an international antislavery convention and were both denied entry based on ... • 35. Research Paper On Jack The Ripper Over a hundred and twenty five years later Jack the Ripper, a murderer from the East End of London, who has yet to be found and more than likely to be dead by now, still rings bells of interest as well as terror all over the world. His case is known as The Whitechapel Murders, and has yet to be solved. During the era in which Ripper was active, there were eleven murders committed in London; however, the Ripper is only believed to be directly responsible for five of these victims ( The Whitechapel Murder Victims ). Although his well known name has rung bells for over a century, many still question how he has remained so famous in the first place. Understandably so, since unquestionably there have been more massive serial killers since Rippers era, being that Rippers accreditation is only to five victims killed within a twelve or so week period. On the other hand, to understand why Ripper is still so famous, it is essential to understand his killings beyond the surface. It is not just how many he murdered, but where he killed, the name for which he became known as, and the simple fact that people still want answers. Understanding where the Ripper killed and why it plays such an important role in his case is the first part of going beyond the surface. Government spending is not only a focus of the United State s political system, but it affects one s personal choices and lifestyle. There is a concern with where and why money is spent. A key aspect of government spending is allocated to education. Education is fundamental in how one benefits society and the economy. The United States education program is not only necessary for the success of the country, but it is in need of a more efficient system with increased funding. Education is the foundation of a person s success and way of life. Graduating from school is important not only for an individual, but it helps the local and national economy. A study by the Alliance for Excellent Education shows that with higher graduation rates among high school students, the economies of cities, states, and of the country would increase (Rollins). Compared to the rest of the world, the United States spends a large amount of money on education (U.S. Education). While many may think this sufficient, Professor Bruce Baker discusses the correlation between supporting schools with federal funding and the success of students, When schools have more money, they have greater opportunity to spend productively. When they don t, they can t (ii, Baker). If students are to graduate and contribute to the boost of economies, education must be the forefront of federal funding. This series would fall under the classification of action/drama given that practically every episode has a different obstacle that The Flash has to defeat or overcome. Barry Allen plays a normal, CSI forensic scientist at the Central City Police Department. Although he appears as a normal person to almost everyone, there are few people who see the hero side of him. • 39. Compare Fahrenheit 451 And Lamb To The Slaughter She s Had Enough Does the strength of a marriage have any influence on the length one spouse will go to to protect the other? Mildred, in Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, and Mary, in Lamb to the Slaughter, a short story by Roald Dahl, both have marriages that are falling apart. This eventually led both of the wives to betray their husbands. While some differences between Mildred and Mary are evident, the similarities are striking. Mildred embraced the bizarre norms of her dystopian society, and Mary defied the typical role of a 1960 s wife. In both stories, the fragility of their marriages ultimately caused both wives to betray their husbands in fatal ways. In both the novel and the short story, Mary and Mildred s marriages are collapsing. Although both Mary and Mildred may recognize that their marriages are weak, both pretend that everything is fine. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag, Mildred s husband, realizes that he and Mildred don t know much about each other and he says, Funny, how funny, not to remember where or when you met your husband r wife (Bradbury 43). This scene doesn t faze Mildred as she can t comprehend the failure of their marriage. Similarly, in Lamb to the Slaughter, Mary s marriage continues to crumble as Patrick comes home and says, I know it s kind of a bad time to be telling you, but there is simply no other way which implies that he has bad news for her. Patrick then tells Mary that he wants a divorce (Dahl 381). Just like Mildred, Mary purposely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
