Human Rights And The United Nations
What are human rights? Some might ask. Human rights is a right that is believed to belong
justifiably to every person. But not everyone has these rights. How would you like to wake up
everyday and hear gunshots and hearing a rocket hitting a buildings and your mom and dad
hiding under a table. Then have strangers coming to your house and taking away your family.
That is what the people in Syria feel like for the past 5 years. Things have gotten worse ever since
ISIS came along and took over the area. This topic has many sides to it from the president to the
presidential nominees and the United Nations. The United Nations has to do more to fix this
problem before it gets and worst.
What s is The UN?
The United Nations (UN) is an intergovernmental organization to promote international cooperation.
A replacement for the ineffective League of Nations, the organization was established on the 24 of
October 1945 after World War II in order to prevent another such conflict. At its founding, the UN
had 51 member states; there are now 193. The headquarters of the United Nations is in Manhattan,
New York City, and experiences extraterritoriality. Further main offices are situated in Geneva,
Nairobi and Vienna. The organization is financed by assessed and voluntary contributions from its
member states. Its objectives include maintaining international peace and security, promoting
human rights, fostering social and economic development, protecting the environment, and

Human Right For The People Of Israel And Palestine
Peace is a basic human right for the people of Israel and Palestine. Given the tenuous nature of
amity between Israel and Palestine, this is a difficult subject at best. However, there are women out
there that believe in, and engage in, peacebuilding efforts between these two territories. Women s
participation in the peace building process of these two countries is vital to the construction of an
unbiased, proactive reconciliation to occur. Because women comprise a large percentage of the
population in these countries, their input and nonviolent negotiating practices are extremely
important considering the escalation of violence in the presently unstable situation between these
warring parties. Since women have a tendency to operate from a nonviolent arena, their inclusion
in the peace building efforts are necessary to eliminate the violence that is ripping these two
countries apart. Women are generally viewed as keepers of the domestic domain, thus, they stand
to lose their very foundation if peace cannot be achieved. At a time when the conflict between
these groups has reached an all time high, it is of upmost importance for women to help pave the
way to culminate a peaceful coexistence between these two opposing factions. The imperative need
for a resolution to this age old conflict must find some immediate answers. There are many women
operating at a grassroots level which will hopefully bring about some significant changes that will
be instrumental to creating a

Simulationary Monetary Policy
Asymmetry in the credit markets result in a wedge between the costs of external funds (i.e. from
banks and other lenders) to the public, and the cost of internal funds. Thus, internal funds, bank
loans and other sources of financing are imperfect substitutes for firms. These imperfections related
to credit market frictions causes monetary policychanges to affect both the bank lending channel
and the balance sheet channel citep{Gertler1995}.
The bank lending channel underpins the role of banks as financial intermediaries, as their business
structure is designed to serve certain type of borrowers, being small to mid sized enterprises and
households, where the problem of asymmetric information emerge citep{stiglitz81}. According to
the theory, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The risk taking channel is thought to operate via three main mechanisms. First, the search for yield
mechanism, with low (nominal) interest rates increasing incentives for banks to take on more risk
citep{Rajan2005}. The second mechanism relates to the impact of low interest rates on real
valuations, incomes, and cash flows. Low rates boost asset and collateral values while tending to
reduce price volatility, which in turn downsizes the banks estimated probability of default, implying
the belief that the increase in asset values are sustainable, encouraging both borrowers and banks to
accept higher risk positions citep{Borio2012}. Third, monetary policy also affects risk taking
through the reaction function of the central bank to negative shocks. The commitment of a central
bank for lower (future) interest rates in the case of a threatening shock reduces the probability of
large downside risks, thereby encouraging banks to assume greater risk.footnote{This effect, also
known as the Greenspan or Bernanke put, operates through the textit{expected} lower interest rates
rather than textit{current} low rates themselves. Its magnitude, however, depends on the current
level of the policy rate. Anticipated interest rate reductions tend to correspond to a higher risk
position when there is

Electrical Fire in Club
An electrical fire starts in a nightclub with at least 250 to 300 patrons inside and quickly spreads
throughout the club. Due to the nightclub s location, in a high crime area of town near
abandoned buildings, security bars cover the doors and windows. All occupants of the building,
with the exception of the nightclub employees, are unaware of the other exits available during
an emergency and a vast majority stampedes the front door to seek safety. As the fire continues
to spread, heavy smoke proceeds to fill that main room where most of the 250 300 patrons were
at the time. This heavy smoke causes patrons to lose visibility and have difficulty breathing. The
patrons that have been able to escape the building suffer from major to minor injuries, while some
patrons are still trapped. These patrons are suffering from burns and severe smoke inhalation
(some may have possibly succumbed to the injuries). The nightclub s employees have exited the
building through various exits and contacted 911 and emergency personnel (fire department,
police department, paramedics, etc.) arrive within 10 to 15 minutes of the first call. Ultimately,
there are over 110 fatalities (on site and at the hospital) as a result of this fire. Over 100 patrons
also suffered physical injuries and most will be affected mentally and emotionally as a result. The
nightclub is located in city with reasonable resources; however, the city has also been subjected to
severe budget cuts. These budget cuts have

How To Write An Essay About Hanging Ourselves
Absurdity: Of Hanging and Humdrum
World War II struck Europe in September of 1939 and lasted six long years, leaving behind a
devastation that the world had never before seen. Adolf Hitler had carried out genocide against
Jews, gays, crippled, and many more he deemed unfit . Thousands of lives had been lost, in
traditional warfare, bombings of civilians, and even nuclear bombings. There was no reason that
could justify this colossal loss of life. To try to survive and deal with the pain, a new form of
theatre emerged: absurdism (Crabb). Absurdism rejected the rationality of realism and saw that
while life is suffering and futile, that makes it kind of funny. Oscar Brockett claimed that the
absurdist movement means that truth consists of chaos, contradictions, and inanities in everyday
life . Both The Birthday Party and Waiting for Godotshow that Brockett nears correctness, but is
not quite there.
One thing is for certain: Waiting for Godot illustrates the inanity of everyday life. Inanity is defined
as silly and dumb , but absurdism takes that to mean that life s futility is funny. In the first act of
Waiting for Godot, one can almost imagine the audience laughing and then thinking of the lines:
ESTRAGON. What about hanging ourselves?
VLADIMIR. Hmm. It d give us an erection.

how much he hates it. Vladimir and Estragon constantly talk about how they are going to go, but
they always stay in the same place. These apparent verbal contradictions show the truth that
language can not truly express the ideas of man ( Absurdism ). The Birthday Party deals with

The Food Service Is A Multi Billion Dollar Industry Essay
The food service is a multi billion dollar industry. It comprised of independent or chain full service
and limited services restaurant. It is estimated that in 2015, sales from Full service restaurants
(FSRs) such as Olive gardens and Applebees was estimated around 247 billion. While limited
service restaurants (LSRs) which includes fast foodchains such as McDonalds generated over 210
billion (President, 2016). In addition to the full service and limited service, restaurants are the
food trucks, which is another segment of the food service industry that has gain popularity over
the years. The food truck industry goes as far back as the late 17th century. It is classified as a
restaurant on the go (mobile restaurant). Food truck is essentially a large truck or wagon that is
equipped with the necessary gadgets to cook and conveniently sell food. This industry has
grown tremendously since the 17th century; the food truck industry in 2015 was valued at
856.7million dollars (Statista, 2016). If one should walk through various cities across the United
States, you will notice a growing number of food truck that line our city streets, parking lots and
shopping centers. Over the years food truck or food carts has grown from simple ice cream, hot
dogs and pretzels cart to a variety of ethnic dishes, hamburgers popcorn. Food truck not only sells
lunch but also breakfast, they provide quick services for people on the go.

False Confessions
Causes, Consequences, and Implications for Reform
Saul M. Kassin John Jay College of Criminal Justice
ABSTRACT Despite
the commonsense belief that people do not confess to crimes they did not commit, 20 to 25% of all
DNA exonerations involve innocent prisoners who confessed. After distinguishing between
voluntary, compliant, and internalized false confessions, this article suggests that a sequence of
three processes is responsible for false confessions and their adverse consequences. First, police
sometimes target innocent people for interrogation because of erroneous judgments of truth and
deception. Second, innocent people sometimes confess as a ... Show more content on

substantial physical evidence of his guilt, he concluded that he was a killer: I m not sure how I

had a split personality that bad Michael acted out of jealous rage while good Michael blocked the

the neighborhood was found with Crowe s sister s blood on his clothing.

Inspired by tales of innocents wrongfully convicted, recent research has focused on three sets of
questions: (a) Why are innocent people often misidentified for interrogation, (b) what factors put
innocent suspects at risk to confess, and (c) how accurate are police, juries, and others at judging
confession evidence?

Business Process Outsourcing Is A New Management Strategy
Business process outsourcing is a new management strategy, which encompasses transfers of an
organisation s internal functions to a third party. In essence, it encompasses entrusting and ensuring
a third party with company functions. The third party executes the function and meets the
expectations of the company (Kozweska 2004). Company objectives primarily dictate the above
expectations. A company transfers business tasks and processes to an external provider, a specialist
in a particular field, to enhance its profitability and hence return of investment to its shareholders.

The company has outsourced its Information Technology (IT) functions to an Indian IT company,
Indo System Solutions (ISS). Initially, Globshop s senior management was skeptical about
transferring the above function to the IT services provider. However, over time, they came to
realize benefits accrued from outsourcing. However, there are still risks associated with the above
management strategy. Globshop s senior management requires an in depth analysis of the above
strategy, which defines the company s future relationship with ISS.
Growth of Offshore Outsourcing
Several factors have fuelled the unprecedented growth in business process outsourcing. One such
factor is the technological revolution. Technological revolution especially in the information
technology sector has seen the introduction of fast and reliable communication channels. Such
channels include high speed internet, which ensures that individuals from different countries can
communicate in real time (Duening Click 2005). This facilitates a multi location execution of tasks
where employees in different locations communicate using tools such as video conferencing. This
has increased contact between companies and their outsourced services providers. As such, efficient
communication between companies ensures smooth and timely execution of tasks and functions.
This translates into an overall efficiency at the company.
Another factor is the emergence of newly developed economies including

Similarities Between Chinoiserie And China
From Chinese Art to Chinoiserie Chinoiserie is used to describe a European fantasy vision of
China. The exchange between East and West was sporadic for centuries, and China remained more
like a myth than a reality. The Westerners made up mysterious stories about the unknown land.
Their beliefs about Chinaoriginated from the depictions on the goods exported to the West.
However, during the seventeenth and eighteenth century, actual contact and trade with the West
became more frequent. Chinese textiles, as a luxury good, were eagerly sought in the West and
later imitated by European artists and craftsmen. The meeting of East and West made the two
different cultures drew from each other, and Chinoiserie is the result of the fusion of Eastern... Show

Their life styles and artistic aesthetics were completely different. Westerners used rocks to build
houses, and Chinese people used wood. Westerners ate bread and potatoes, and Chinese ate rice
and steamed buns. Westerners used forks and knifes, and Chinese people used chopsticks. Men in
the West wore casual suits, but Chinese men wore long robes with queue a long braid hairstyle.
Women in the West had freedom, but Chinese women still had to have the three inch golden lotus
feet. Due to the industrialization of Europe, and after two centuries of plundering foreign countries,
the West became rich and the quality of their lives has improve, especially the upper class.
Europeans started their pursuit of luxury, and they started to develop consumer consciousness.
They started to build houses with exquisite decoration, and they wanted others to feel envy. They
started to wear luxury clothes in order to grab others attention. And after all this, they also wanted
to add some exotic element to their life. Among all the foreign countries, Westerners were in love
with China. They adored China as a mystery country full of exquisite

In Praise of Folly
In Praise of Folly Erasmus Dichotomy
The Silenus box is a case carved like an ugly Silenus that can be opened to reveal beautiful,
precious objects (Erasmus 43, footnote). This box appears in Erasmus Praise of Folly as a
metaphor for the central claim in the novel, which is that that which appears to be Folly (ugly)
externally, is wise (precious) within. Erasmus reveals this dichotomy on three levels: in the image
of the box itself, in his genuine praise of Folly, and in the structure of the novel as a whole.
Erasmus, using the female voice of Folly, introduces his reader to the image of the Silenus box
early in the text, thereby allowing his reader to carry the image with her for the rest of her time
reading (and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Folly, being folly, goes on from her initial description of the box to give the majority of her list
backwards (although she begins correctly), claiming that if the list goes in one direction, it must, of
course, go in the opposite direction as well (she s a woman you can t expect her to be reasonable
(28)). To do this, she abruptly inserts the word conversely (43), and continues with a long
backward list. Life will turn out to be death; beauty will become ugliness, and so on, she says
(43). In this backwards list, good outsides cloak bad insides. She then uses this inverted list as a
springboard to celebrate wise appearances (although this is the exact opposite of the central
message of the book, which is the celebration of foolish appearances).
She declares that esteemed members of the community are truly members of her (Folly s) clan,
and that all they have of wisdom is its appearance. Kings and great courtiers... find suitable
pretexts within which they can steal from their citizens and live in luxury so that downright
injustice at least has some appearance of justice (107 8). Popes, cardinals and bishops also behave
artificially. They play their roles with theatrical pomp and ceremonies, but as much as they abide by
the superficial demands of their positions,

Definitions And Historical View Of Gartner
1.3.1.3.1 IoT Definitions and Historical View
Gartner (2015) forecasts that in 2020 almost 20 billion devices will be connected together and
form the Internet of Things (IoT) of the future, which is a rise by fairly 2000% from 0.9 billion in
2009 (Gartner.com, 2015).
The topic of IoT has hoarded much interest to the point that it has been classified as a disruptive
technology (Downes, 2013, Feki et al., 2013). The concept of the Internet of Things is not new; it
has been around since the early 90s. It has been envisioned in many forms yet all the different
visions have one thing in common, the connectedness of devices (Donovan, 2014). In 1991, it was
already foretold that specialized elements of hardware and software connected together ... Show

Moreover, the Internet of Things, or as called by others, the Internet of Everything is a seen as a
global network of devices and machines that have the ability to interact and communicate with each
other (Kortuem et al., 2010, Lee and Lee, 2015). Seven years later, the International
Telecommunication Community adapted the definition of IoT in the ITU T Y.2060 (06/2012)
publication stating that the IoT is a global infrastructure for the information society that enables
advanced services by interconnecting physical and virtual things on the foundation of current and
developing information and communication technologies (ITU, 2015).
In addition to how the IoT has been defined by the ITU, there have been many variations of the
definition that revolve around the same centre but adapted to the view of the organisational entity
that is looking at the IoT model. In Atzori, Iera and Morabito (2010), the authors gather and funnel
the different IoT visions that had been proposed over the past years into three main groups. These
groups are: (1) Things oriented, where the emphasis is on the objects and finding models to
integrate them, (2) Internet oriented, where the focus is on different networking possibilities that
would establish efficient connections between the objects, and (3) Semantic oriented, which by
using semantic technologies the

What Could Be Better Than A Touchdown Analysis
Do you think that physical power is as important as mental and physical capability? After reading
What Could be Better Than A Touchdown? and Why We Run, I would say that mental and
physical power are more valuable skills. After reading What Could Be Better Than A Touchdown?
and Why We Run, mental and physical power are better together because in order to succeed in any
sportan athlete needs to have that mental capability to tell yourself that you can do it or strategize
quickly. But they also have to have the physical capability in order to execute that plan or their
dream.
My first reason is, throughout reading What Could Be Better Than A Touchdown? you can easily
see that although many people believe that football is primarily a physical sport, we see that mental
talent comes into play when it comes to strategies the players use. Sanneh ... Show more content on

Movement incorporates physical and mental capability. Movement is almost synonymous with life.

Basically this quote is stating that movement is something that is a trait that we all possess, and
running takes both mental and physical ability to run well, because you need to be physically fit,
but you also have to be emotionally into it and don t feel horrible every time you have to go for a

Lastly, all of the body has to be working properly in order to have an efficient and accurate athlete.
Our mind, muscles, and lungs all work together to make the perfect balance between mental and
physical talent. And our minds, as much as our lungs and muscles, are a vital force that empowers
our running. (Heinrich 68). This quote clearly demonstrates to the reader how to think of mental

Essay about The New Trade Theory
New Trade Theory
The new trade theory began to emerge in the 1970s when a number of economists pointed out
that the ability of firms to attain economies of scale might have important implications for
international trade (Wickramasekera, Cronk Hill 2013). This theory is based on two major
concepts that are economies of scale and first mover advantage. To elaborate: Economies of
scale are unit cost reductions associated with a large scale of output as it is able to spread over
the fixed costs over a large volume of quantity (Wickramasekera, Cronk Hill 2013 p90). First
mover advantages are the economic and strategic advantages that accrue to early entrants into an
industry and the ability to capture scale economies ahead of later ... Show more content on

Further more, with other benefits such as low costs in research and development, strong clinical
research capabilities, and low sovereign risk, Australia is advancing as one of the most prominent
players in the pharmaceutical industry (Productivity Commission 2003). Australia s population
represents 0.3% of the world s population and consumes around 1% of the total global
pharmaceutical sales. The industry generated a total revenue of $6.1 billion in the year 2002
(ALRC 2014).
The research and development of the pharmaceutical industry is very important as the industry
relies on it to develop new products to maintain and sustain the growth of the industry (ALRC
2014). According to the Australian Government Law Reform Commission, every year, the total
spending in research and development in pharmaceutical industry, which includes drug discovery,
pre clinical testing and clinical trials on drugs is around $300 million (ALRC 2014). Mergers and
acquisitions are intensifying in the global pharmaceutical industry, especially over the last 10 years.
With factors like exorbitant research and development costs, the relatively shorter product life
cycles, and the rarity of discovering a new life changing drug acting as catalysts, leading
pharmaceutical companies now have more cause to step out and look for external collaboration.
This results in an increasing number of smaller biotechnology companies merging with bigger
pharmaceutical companies (The

Article Analysis of Habits of Mind
In an article titled Habits of Mind: An Organizing Principle for Mathematics Curriculum (n.d.),
Cuoco, Goldenberg and Mark call for a new approach to designing mathematics curricula for the
future. As they point out, it is impossible to know all that the future holds: Past experience tells us
that today s first graders will graduate high schoolmost likely facing problems that do not yet exist
(Cuoco et al., p. 1). Students have been taught mathematics in the same way for a long time, the
authors claim. Students have been given a bag of facts to use in their approach to problem solving.
The bags have changed according to newer or more fashionable ideas, substituting, for example,
fractal geometry for Euclidean geometry. The underlying pedagogy, however, has remained
essentially the same. Cuoco et al. assert that a much more effective approach to teaching
mathematics facilitates students development of habits of mind. Habits of mind are not the sole
purview of mathematics; in fact, learninghow to think and how to approach problems in a variety
of situations are useful skills in all academic content areas as well as in life. For mathematics,
Cuoco et al. suggest a number of habits of mind that would ideally be cultivated in students. These
include the ability to recognize patterns, to experiment, to describe and defend conclusions, to
tinker and to invent, to visualize, and to make guesses and plausible conjectures. By developing
these habits of mind, the

Accounting, Personal Finance and Personal Finance Software
a)Accounting is the social science that studies, measures, analyzes and records the heritage of
organizations, businesses and individuals, in order to serve in decision making and control,
presenting the information previously recorded, systematically and useful for different
stakeholders. It also has a technique that produces structured and systematic quantitative and
valuable information, expressed in monetary units on transactions made by economic entities and
certain identifiable and quantifiable economic events that affect it, for the purpose of providing it
to the various public stakeholders. The purpose of accounting is to provide information at a given
moment and the results obtained over a period of time, which is useful to users in making their
decisions, both to control the past administrative events, and tor estimate future results, providing
such rational and efficient decisions Accounting is very important as all companies as well as
individuals must keep track of their business and financial affairs, so to get higher profits. In
addition, accounting is necessary to obtain legal information. We could say that, at a personal level,
accounting is the financial tool that helps us go throughout our financial plan, showing us where
we are financially at each period of time, and advising us in order to make the best economic and
financial decisions. b)Personal finance planning is not easy, and the big picture, in fact, can be

Regional Planning And Regional Development Strategies
Regional planning literature, for instance Barca (2009) suggests that there are various strategies
which can be used to stimulate development (regional/national) and these can be categorised into
classes, including inter alia, place neutral and place based development strategies. This paper
however, dwells much on the analysis of the arguments levelled in support of placed based
development strategies as a recipe for regional development, with reference to Zimbabwe s
provinces. By and large, development is a very broad and illusive concept hence there is no
consensus among scholars as to what really constitutes development. Barca (2011) argues that
place based development strategies or mechanisms are partially a response to the perceived
failures of earlier regional development strategies and focus instead on tackling underutilised
economic potential and reducing social exclusion, through supply of integrated goods and services
tailored to local contexts and triggering innovation, which is critical to regional economic growth.
In distinguishing place based development strategies from traditional development strategies,
Barca (2011:221) argues that, place based approaches to regional development put greater
emphasis on arguing that, the well being of each and every individual also depends on the context
in which he or she lives . Critical to note however, is the fact that if regional development is to be
effected in Zimbabwe s provinces, there is need to integrate place

Kevlar Essay
After watching the videos and understanding what is being developed in the industry of material
engineering, the material that I personally found most interesting was kevlar. It seemed like such
a lightweight material yet it is very strong and it has a lot of different applications. Poly
paraphenylene terephthalamide known as Kevlar, was invented by the chemist Stephanie Kwolek
back in 1971. The material is produced by a chemical reaction with solvent and solutes. The
production of this material is expensive as it is not easy to do. However it is not easy to produce
Kevlar as this source states However, the fabric is expensive, difficult to manufacture because of its

The polymer owes its high strength to the many inter chain bonds. These inter molecular hydrogen
bonds form between the carbonyl groups and NH centers. Additional strength is derived from
aromatic stacking interactions between adjacent strands. These interactions have a greater influence
on Kevlar than the van der Waals interactions and chain length that typically influence the
properties of other synthetic polymers and fibers (Wikipedia). Therefore its main strength comes
from the intermolecular bonds and stacking of the material. Even though Kevlar is a very strong
material, it is yet very light considering the high strain it can handle. As this source claims Their
high strength to weight ratio and ability to resist high speed impacts enable them to be more
efficient than metals (Zhu). By this measure it is also known that Kevlar is almost five more times
stronger than steel. This image shows the tensile strength of Kevlar in comparison to other
materials. As seen, there is drastic difference and it has a much larger tensile strength.Kevlar has a
lot of different applications, however it is most known for its application in the protection field. It
is usually used for armors, objects such as helmets and ballistic

Living in a Fallen Societies
Would you like to live in a world where your leader is murdering millions of people, well this
was Nazi Germany. Thankfully we don t have to live through that anymore. Why? Because faults
in the society lead to its failure. All societies fail, but why? Corrupt leaders, lack of resources, and
failure in security can all lead to the downfall of a society. Now not all societies fail for these
reasons, but Nazi Germany, ancient India, Rome, and the Glade, a fiction society in The Maze
Runner book by James Dashner, have. The are usually many faults in our governmentand every
government whatever type of government it is. Leaders are very important in a society because
everyone looks up to the leader, but what happens when the leader is corrupted? Bad things happen
when a leader is corrupted, It happened in Germanyand in The Maze Runner. In the Glade they

Pepsico And The Non Alcoholic Beverage Industry
PepsiCo is a world leader in convenient food and beverages that manufacture, market, distribute
and sell wide variety of beverages, foods and snacks, serving consumers in almost every part of
the world. PepsiCo operates under six reportable segments: Frito Lay North America (FLNA),
Quaker Foods North America (QFNA), Latin America Foods (LAF), PepsiCo Americas
Beverages (PAB), PepsiCo Europe (Europe) and PepsiCo Asia, Middle East and Africa
(AMEA). All of the mentioned segments are registered under one symbol PEP whose shares are
traded on the New York Stock Exchange, Chicago Stock Exchange and SIX Swiss Exchange.
Since 49% of PepsiCo s operations are outside of the U.S. that generates significant portion of the
company s net revenue, PepsiCo selected the currency of its foreign subsidiaries in which they
generally operates as its functional currency, which is translated into US dollars on the company s
financial statements. I have found that two major players, PepsiCo and Coca Cola dominate the
non alcoholic beverage industry around the world. There is tremendous competition within a
relatively slowing industry and PepsiCo currently controls nearly 21% of the industry with its Frito
Lay segment alone controls 60% of the U.S snack food market. PepsiCo s consolidated financial
statements are in conformity with U.S. GAAP, however if company was to converge with the

The Death Of Serial Killers
In recent discussions of serial killers, a controversial issue has been whether they were born
being the killer that they are or if it is impacted by the way that they grew up. On the one hand,
some argue that serial killers are influenced by things in their lives that cause them to become
these guiltless killers. From this perspective, porn and violence in the home are big factors in
what people believe to be influencing these people. On the other hand, however, others argue
that these people are born this way and the way they grow up has no influence. In the words of
Helen Morrison, one of these view s main proponents, No matter what country, ethnicity, race,
socioeconomic background, education, familial background, they are all exactly the same.
According to this view, despite if they are born this way or grew up being influenced by things,
they are all the same. In sum, then, the issue is whether they are born this way or if their lives
are influenced. My own view has not been solidified at the moment. Reading and researching all
this stuff has not yet brought me to my own conclusion which I believed it would do right away.
Though I concede that violence in the home and pornography do influence people in different
ways, I still maintain that a lot of people grow up with these factors and there are plenty of these
people who do not kill anyone and do not have any serial killertendencies. For example, Ted Bundy
s growing up was talked about quite a bit while he was at

Cannonball Moment In Life
A cannonball moment. A moment that knocks you down, but shifts your life s direction and makes
you realize something special. Growing up as a child, my grandfather was much more than a
grandfather, he was my best friend. He was always smiling, always energized, and always willing to
help anyone with anything. Unfortunately, old agegets the best of us. As the years went on, his
smile seemed to disappear, his energy diminished, and he was unable to help anyone anymore
due to his physical condition. He was recently diagnosed with kyphosis of the neck and spinal
stenosis. Kyphosis and spinal stenosis both decrease the function of your neck and spine. My
grandfather used to be able to stand up straight, but now his back has almost curved at a ninety
degree angle with his legs. Each time I visit my grandfather, it pains me to see his condition get
worse and worse. His pain feels like my pain. He attends physical therapyevery week and wears a
back brace every day, but there is only so much that can be done. If a highly accredited doctor of
physical therapy could barely help my grandfather, how could I? How could I allow myself to sit
on the sidelines as my grandfather loses the ability to stand? Why did God allow for this to
happen? These are the kinds of questions I ponder on a daily basis. However, last year I pondered
different kinds of questions, the dreadful common app questions. I starred senselessly through the
computerscreen as I read the words, Choose your major . At

The Yellow Wallpaper By Charlotte Perkins Stetson Essay
LENSES The wallpaper in The Yellow Wallpaper is symbolic of the gender based oppression
women of the patriarchal time period of its writing, faced; being infantised, not allowed to vote but
expected to raise the children and take care of the house.
The short story, The Yellow Wallpaper , written by Charlotte Perkins Stetson, is centred on the story
of a woman diagnosed by her physician husband, John, with a slight hysterical tendency, or what
we would call today, post natal depression. As a cure for the narrator s illness, John prescribes
her with the rest cure as a treatment. Essentially, the rest cure is when the patient is assigned total
bed rest in isolation, being over fed on fat laden foods such as cream (based on the belief that the
increase of body volume lead to an increase in energy), massage and often the use of electricity for
hysterical paroxysm. Despite the narrator s belief that congenial work, with excitement and change
would be the cure, she, as a woman living in this male dominated society of 1892, is to follow her
husband s method of treatment. This eventually leads to an increasing infatuation with the yellow
wallpaper in the room of the narrator s confinement and the eventual deterioration of her mental
health and sanity. My hypothesis surrounding the text is that the yellow wallpaper, the narrator
becomes so infatuated with, is symbolic of the patriarchal society the narrator lived in at the time. I
think the encasing like pattern represent

Persuasive Essay On Hiv Aids
Addressing the HIV/AIDS Menace It is quite disturbing to witness someone undergo much
suffering due to a fatal disease, and it is even more painful to lose a loved one because of some
kind illness that cannot be cured. Over the years, many individuals have been unfortunate to face
the devastating effects of diseases such as diabetes, cancer, among others. However, the emergence
of yet another deadly disease known as AIDShas again complicated matters. AIDS has proved to
be one of the most fatal health condition across the world, and its impact in the society has grown
to be a major global challenge today. The disease is essentially caused by the HIV virus, which can
be spread from one person to another through sexual intercourse, blood transfusion, and sharing of
cutting and piecing instruments with an infected person (Shukla, 2014). AIDS has not only claimed
the lives of millions of people, but also has its economic implications to the nations of the world.
Although various treatment procedures have been designed to help address this health threat, such
as the use of antiretroviral therapies, the disease, and its associated effects, can only be dealt with
effectively through the development of HIV/AIDS vaccine. Vaccinationhas gained great
recognition as the most effective way of controlling and managing several fatal health
conditions. Thanks to Edward Jenner s successful attempt on small pox, vaccines have been
designed to help protect the human body against many diseases that would have otherwise
caused massive deaths across the world (Macaulay, 2016). Think of what would have happened
if all of these diseases were not prevented, and had to attack someone so that they are dealt with
such as the case of the AIDS disease. It is very evident that once a disease has found its way into
the human body, it acts as a trigger to several other issues that affect the various aspects of human
life. Metzl and Hansen (2014) mention that diseases are normally in a complex relationship with
every aspect of human life, and preventing them is very necessary. This is where vaccination comes
handy. The development of HIV/AIDS vaccine, therefore, would be a great step in establishing
significant resolutions to the current

attitude towards change through the characters of David and Jennifer who are transported into the

rather, he addresses that change is essential to the development of society and self and that it is

It was conventionally used in Noir films to represent the dark overtones of the society. It is used
as a motif in Pleasantville for the majority of the beginning of Jennifer and David s adventure (until
things start to change, that is). This is especially significant with all the subtle implications and
allusions to a Nazi style dictatorship. For example, the burning of books is reminiscent of that in
1936 when the German government burnt all books which would oppose its rule, in fear that the
society it governed would think of rebelling.
Big Bob is the obvious ruler, as he is almost always seen with a low shot, making him look big and
powerful to the audience. Bob s situation is similar, burning books to stop changes occurring.
Books are seen as works of art which are derived from the imagination of thinking people. Bob s
censorship practices extend to the prohibition of Mr Johnson from using colours to paint (that is,
from using the full extent of his imagination) in his Code of Conduct. In this way, he is much like
the German government in the 30s. However, he wants to continue his rule without any violent
opposition; only pleasantness . There is irony however, as there is vandalism and disruption when
the Milk Bar is broken into and sabotaged because of his encouragement, which is the exact
opposite of pleasant . The fact that people submitted to this way of

Art And The Holocaust
In just twelve years, a heinous vision executed nearly six million Jewish people at the hands of
Hitler and his followers, making the Holocaust debatably the most tragic and shameful event
recorded in Earth s history. During this time, different races, ethnicities, and religious groups were
persecuted and annihilated for their beliefs that conflicted with Hitler s persistence to eliminate the
flaws of humanity. Hitler and his followers had one goal in mind: to cultivate a master race for the
next generation. Under his guidance for Germany, countries were destroyed and millions were
killed. Pain, death and suffering for millions, put towards an effort that would forever haunt
survivors, and leave future generations struggling to grasp at understanding the past. As time has
gone by, the number of Holocaust survivors has been decreasing expeditiously and history seems
to be slipping away from one s fingertips; however, this specific strand of events and their survivor
s legacy is continuing to reside in the current era, especially through art and literature. Novels,
poetry, paintings, films, and other forms of art relating to the Holocaustquickly surfaced after the
occurrence and still continue today. Artists search for a catharsis from the atrocious genocide that
seems to surround them. With this newly spread genre of art, many critics rose up, like Adorno, a
German philosopher, to prove that these artistic representations were degrading to the survivors and

understand the reign of her family. Her father, Henry VIII, at the time a Catholic, was famous not
only for his reign but also for marrying six wives. While married to his first wife, Catherine, only
one of their seven children survived, Mary Tudor. Wanting to produce a male heir and for the sake

Elizabeth I (Cate Blanchett) follows a general policy of avoiding involvement in major continental
wars, but she cannot stay out of this one because her land was at stake. Her counsel, the majority
of which consists of Catholics, urges her to make a decision. Duke of Norfolk (Christopher
Ecclesston), a contender for the throne, is left in charge to make a final decision. In the middle of
the movie, the viewer is shown a clip of the ending of the war; Scotland has won. The small
rivers have turned red from all the open wounds of the soldiers and hundreds are lying dead in a
big field across Mary of Guise s estate. In that scene Mary of Guise (Fanny Ardant), Queen of
Scotland, walks out to find one of England s Protestant boys struggling to rise to his feet in
English blood. Mary of Guise walks slowly up to his side and wipes his blood on a blue cloth,
which represents the Scottish flag. She asks the boy to give that cloth to his queen. The scene ends
with Mary of Guise saying, English blood on French colours, that will teach her to send young boys
to war. Protestant men as well as Protestant children were being sent to fight the war and risk their
lives because Catholics did not want to send their reinforcements to fight for a Protestant Queen,
thus causing untrained children to die.

John Mandel uses space imagery to show that escapism is always a choice when facing reality,
regardless of how positive or negative that reality is. She shows that escapism is an immortal
practice by inserting instances and situations both before and long after the flu. When Tyler
insists on reading his comic books over and over again to avoid his dilemma in the airport,
Kirsten lets herself imagine that she remember[s] the specific episode of Star Trek: Voyager,
and Miranda returns to Station 11, they all escape using space as a tool. Space represents the
ability to break away from reality because of how boundless, dark, and mysterious it is. Space
will always be around just like Mandel argues that escapism is. She shows that it is an option
despite the state of the predicament by showing it used in both negative and positive contexts.

The Fight-Or-Flight Response
The fight or flight response is a very important reaction of the human body. It can help us decide
whether a situation is suitable to fight back or flee for safety. In many ways the fight or flight
response can be useful in a stressful setting that would be difficult to decide for ourselves. Think
of it as a bodyguard, it protects you when your body is faced with a risky situation. Likewise, it can
tell your brainif a setting is too dangerous to fight in and would be better to just run. The fight or

The average American child can not even comprehend what institutions provide cultural
enhancement. Is that too bold a statement? I don t think so. Primarily because American culture
probably doesn t exist in any real form. The closest we get to art is in our cinema. Art as a
practiced form is lost. Literacy rates are abominable, museums are underfunded in response to the
lack of public interest in viewing their wares, and art classes are practically non existent as more
and more schools have cut those programs in response to budgetary concerns. Art is a learned

The bifurcation was reinforced by a corresponding appropriation of different parts of the city. San
Jose s redevelopment agency has faced the same prospects in their attempts to create a beautiful
downtown area that would attract the business community. But even as they put up buildings for
high tech companies on newly appropriated redevelopment turf the dickering continues over what
to do with the lingering abandoned landmarks. Culture and business are often at the core of any
downtown. Rich cultural venues, like theater, cinema, and art galleries attract those people who
would be patrons. But the proximity of business anchors them to the area. And that is one of the
functions the Camera Cinema s initially provided to a struggling downtown San Jose.
In the early years of redevelopment, the downtown had no soul. Any draw it did have amidst the

easy for Allison Grace Cobb. Piercing blue eyes, sandy hair and the most contagious smile. These
attributes are only surface deep, but there is one thing that runs through to her core. Called Gracie
by her peers, she radiates the beautiful concept of grace. There have been two definite experiences
in her past that seem to be the common thread in her life continually weaved by Gods grace. The
first and most painful stitch occurred at the age of 10. Young Gracie witnessed her granddad,
better known as Paw Paw, take his last breath. He was one of my best friends. I loved him and
went to see him all the time. Paw Paw was diagnosed with cancer in January, and by the end of
February he had passed away. I had been warned, and I was with him almost every day as he got
sick. You might expect someone in this situation to experience anger and shock over this sudden
death. This was not the case with Gracie. She was blessed, for the first time, with God s grace. It

Kitak Relationship In The Kite Runner
Thesis: Khaled Hosseini strongly argues the importance of family coming together despite their
differences because family is all a person has in the end.
Amir and his father s weak relationship in Afghanistan changes when Amir finally accomplishes
something Baba can be proud about, spreading light of a possible close relationship in the future.
At the beginning of the novel, Baba is talking with his friend, Rahim Khan, about his worries for
Amir not standing up for himself, when he is being bullied. Khan responds to Baba saying,
Children aren t coloring books. You don t get to fill them in with your favorite colors (Hosseini 21).
This quote illustrates the difficult relationship Amir and his father have with each other because
Baba wants to mold him into the perfect son, but Amir does not find appreciation in the same things
as Baba, causing this mold to be ruined. Amir and Baba being polar opposites causes them to
naturally separate from each other because Baba likes building luxury to fit his ego, but Amir
values the smaller gestures people do in life. Once Amir finally does something that makes Baba
proud and improves their ego, Baba starts to appreciate Amir more and tries to do more things
with him. This is depicted when Hosseini writes, Baba and I were finally friends (Hosseini 85).
Although Amir thinks they are close, they are not as close as they could be because Baba usually
invites friends and family to join them on their outings. Also, when they are alone it is very
awkward for the two of them because they do not know each other very well. The reason Amir
feels like he is gaining his father s acceptance is because he is taking him places, rather than
ignoring his existence completely, which is a significant step compared to their relationship before.
This step in their relationship illustrates they have a chance at becoming even closer in the future.
The father and son relationship truly transforms when they move to the United States and both find
appreciation in the other s differences because they only have each other. When they move it is
very difficult for Baba to assimilate to life in America, causing him to get very frustrated. He starts
to rely more on Amir for help and as a

Examples Of Doublethink In 1984
People in power rely on psychological manipulation to suppress others and control them.
Propaganda is the centerpiece to controlling the citizens of Oceania. This propaganda raises
morale of the citizens and brainwashes them into the party s ideals. The party uses doublethink to
change the truth and alter history to control the perception their citizens have. A good example of
doublethink is the party slogan WAR IS PEACE. FREEDOM IS SLAVERY. IGNORANCE IS
STRENGTH. (George Orwell, 4). The slogan tells the people that they already have what they
want, by staying ignorant they will be strong, and that seeking freedom will make them slaves. The
party convinces them that what they have is a utopia and therefore will not rebel. The party also uses

Just And Unjust Wars Analysis
There are other people that argue that, they are fighting for what is right. Which is a great
argument to have, but it is one thing to argue that on a personal scale but when whole nations get
involved that notion becomes a little more hazy. In Alexander Moseley s article Just War Theory
he quotes Michael Walzer, a American political theorist and author of books such as Just and
Unjust Wars and Spheres of Justice . Walzer s view of killing and the justification for killing
anyone is this: ...Modern warfare dissolves the possibility of discrimination: civilians are just as
necessary causal conditions for the warmachine as are combatants, therefore, they claim, there is no
moral distinction in targeting an armed combatant and a civilian... Show more content on

This is a much scarier concept to think about then it sounds. War, will not always have a winner
but it will have someone or some nation that will come out on top. They will have the control of
how things appeared to play out. We hope that the group that is right wins, but how can we be
sure they are right? As explored earlier a country with better resources and a more stable
economy has the upperhand. But just because a nation has more money does not mean they are
on the right side of the war. According to Moseley At a deeper level, one can consider the role
that civilians play in supporting an unjust war: to what extent are they morally culpable, and if
they are culpable in giving moral, financial, or economic support to some extent, does that mean
they may become legitimate targets? (Moseley 2005). The difficulty of using war to solve a
problem is that the legitimacy of a target is determined by the ones who do the act, it is very
hard to create a way of determining the justification for killing that all parties will agree upon.
Even if there is a line that fits it can always be argued against one way or another. There can
never be a correct answer to killing because it can be argued in either direction. Humans pride
themselves on certainty, and creating solutions. War cannot solve a problem with any sort of
certainty because it ultimately will come down to the interpretation of the individual and people
will argue against the outcome no matter what. This is where diplomacy must always be the first
choice. (Will keep working but want to make sure all points are

optimization plan for 2016.
Use weather segmentation
Segmentation helps marketers to discover the most converting type of traffic and, also, to display
the right message, at the right time, to the right audience. Having in mind the purpose of building a
successful company, entrepreneurs and marketers must identity the 20% traffic segments that bring
80% of results.
Usually, websites use segmentation data points such as: location (city, region, country), new vs.
returning visitors, referring URL, previous conversion activity, cookies, purchase history. Yet, one
efficient segmentation criterion is missed by eCommerce websites: weather segmentation.
With this type of segmentation, you can

Professor Dumbledore s Argumentative Essay
Today Professor Dumbledore came to my uncle s house to catch me. He told me that he has
come to take me to the burrow. During Dumbledore s visit, he chastises and rebuke the Dursley s
for mistreating me, but he also asked if I could return to Privet Drive for one final time. Then we
left. What I didn t know was that we were going to go to a retired professor s home before we
went the Weasley s. Dumbledore asked me to persuade Slughorn so that he would come out of
retirement. I noticed that Dumbledore s right hand was seriously injured. Dumbledore made it seem
like nothing, but the injury didn t seem normal. I just thought I could have helped. When we
arrived, Slughorn frightened me. He looked like an arm chair. It seemed like he knew

Silk Mill Research Paper
Scientists found a problem when it came to mass producing spider silk, spiders are extremely
territorial and tend to kill any other spider that invades said territory. This had been tested by
scientists with the Golden Globe Weaver spiders and led to most of the spider farm being wiped
out due to their cannibalism. So instead scientists looked to finding out if a different organism
could produce the spider silk, like goats. First, the experts had to identify the gene that spiders had
that produced the kind of silkthey were looking for. Eventually they found that there were six
variations that spiders produce. The one that the scientists decided on is called dragline silk, it
makes up the framework of a spiders web. They then experimented... Show more content on

According to one of the scientists taking care of a herd of seven genetically modified goats,
Randy Lewis, these goats are pampered because of how unique they are. The only misgivings I
have are for how far scientists will go in modifying organisms in the future after conquering small
changes in biology such as this. I fear that they may experiment too much with the genetics of
organisms and the original nature may be obliterated with changes that might be added. As a
consumer, I am ecstatic about the repercussions this could have in terms of medically and safety
for the average person and for officers of the law and military. This can save lives and provide
better options for those in need then what they currently

Black Cat Climax
The Black Cat Plot
The Black Cat is a short and gruesome story by Edgar Allen Poe. The story is about an alcoholic
man whose anger and insanity is rapidly swelling. It increased so much that he decides to unleash
it on his cat, his wife, and later his new cat. His insanity drives him to see all three of them. These
crimes, he said, had consigned me to the hangman. (Poe 7). That means, because he killed them he
was sentenced to death. In a story, the climax is defined as the highest point of interest or turning
point. The climax of this story is when the narrator murders his wife and the cat goes missing. One
quote in this story that shows that this is the climax is when the narrator says that he soundly and
tranquilly

Reading Maketh A Full Man Conference A Ready Man Analysis
Reading maketh a full man, conference a ready man and writing an exact man by Francis Bacon
has had different meaning to different people. The accumulation of reading, conference and
writing are all needed to create the perfect man. I believe the knowledge that one has acquired can
empowered person to do their best. One can only become a full man if he is able to read, but the
aspect that differentiates no longer being a child to being a full person is having the ability to learn.
Not just hearing instructions or following directions, but actually being able to understand and
absorb the information that is being given to them. Scudder and Shaler wanted to learn everything
they could about the fish by just looking at it. These students knew... Show more content on

The ready man wants to express his opinion not because he is forced to but he is delighted when
he is able to speak about his topic. On the Douglass reading we were told about the slave who
was trying to set himself free by having a conversation with his master. The slave is a man with
conference because he is able to listen to his opponent while still being able to speak his truth.
Before the slave was able to make himself free he had to learn and become well informed about
what was wrong with the things his master was doing to him. When the conversation was over
and the slave had expressed everything he felt it resulted in the voluntarily emancipation of the
slave by the master (Douglass). When the slave and the master speak, all the slave had to do
was speak his truth, but he had to do it effectively so that the master is convinced by the slave s
beliefs. The exact man is a strong writer who is able to put on paper, and in proper writing, his
own thoughts and opinions, and what he is most passionate about. Feynman is one of the few
man from the reading that sums up the writing and exact person who fulfilled, all knowing, and
is often seen as the ideal man. He was so passionate about his work it could be seen by almost
everyone; in fact, the head of the science department noticed that Feynman [appeared] to . . . really
[love] science . Feynman had so much dedication and enjoyment his course and he wanted all his

Analysis Of Mother Tongue By Amy Tan
Language is key in order to communicate vast complex Englishes we picked up during our youth
and benefited from it by broadcasting our ideas to speak amongst our family, friends, and peers.
Language is defined as, the method of human communication, either spoken or written, consisting
of the use of words in a structured and conventional way, by Merriam Webster. From my
perspective, I believe that our languagecan convey our Englishes to speak with many types of
characters on certain types of situations. Knowing that we as humans, has a certain adaptation of
picking up things we hear, can be beneficial due to the fact, that we use those components in order
to communicate. In the article, Mother Tongue, by Amy Tan, discusses a time, where she had to
deal with learning three types of Englishes from her mother which includes simple, broken and
watered down English. Having to deal many struggles and worrying about being criticized can be
agitating due to the fact, that she wanted to be seen as speaking and writing proper academic
English. But through thick and thin, Tan believes that the Englishes she learned from her mother is
very important and shouldn t be concealed with only them two but, should be shown towards
everyone reading her stories. Having a vast amount of Englishes is great, however I specifically
speak three types of English which consist of Taglish, texting, and academic English.
Due to my background as an American Filipino citizen in

  • 2. Human Rights And The United Nations What are human rights? Some might ask. Human rights is a right that is believed to belong justifiably to every person. But not everyone has these rights. How would you like to wake up everyday and hear gunshots and hearing a rocket hitting a buildings and your mom and dad hiding under a table. Then have strangers coming to your house and taking away your family. That is what the people in Syria feel like for the past 5 years. Things have gotten worse ever since ISIS came along and took over the area. This topic has many sides to it from the president to the presidential nominees and the United Nations. The United Nations has to do more to fix this problem before it gets and worst. What s is The UN? The United Nations (UN) is an intergovernmental organization to promote international cooperation. A replacement for the ineffective League of Nations, the organization was established on the 24 of October 1945 after World War II in order to prevent another such conflict. At its founding, the UN had 51 member states; there are now 193. The headquarters of the United Nations is in Manhattan, New York City, and experiences extraterritoriality. Further main offices are situated in Geneva, Nairobi and Vienna. The organization is financed by assessed and voluntary contributions from its member states. Its objectives include maintaining international peace and security, promoting human rights, fostering social and economic development, protecting the environment, and providing ... • 3. Human Right For The People Of Israel And Palestine Peace is a basic human right for the people of Israel and Palestine. Given the tenuous nature of amity between Israel and Palestine, this is a difficult subject at best. However, there are women out there that believe in, and engage in, peacebuilding efforts between these two territories. Women s participation in the peace building process of these two countries is vital to the construction of an unbiased, proactive reconciliation to occur. Because women comprise a large percentage of the population in these countries, their input and nonviolent negotiating practices are extremely important considering the escalation of violence in the presently unstable situation between these warring parties. Since women have a tendency to operate from a nonviolent arena, their inclusion in the peace building efforts are necessary to eliminate the violence that is ripping these two countries apart. Women are generally viewed as keepers of the domestic domain, thus, they stand to lose their very foundation if peace cannot be achieved. At a time when the conflict between these groups has reached an all time high, it is of upmost importance for women to help pave the way to culminate a peaceful coexistence between these two opposing factions. The imperative need for a resolution to this age old conflict must find some immediate answers. There are many women operating at a grassroots level which will hopefully bring about some significant changes that will be instrumental to creating a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Simulationary Monetary Policy Asymmetry in the credit markets result in a wedge between the costs of external funds (i.e. from banks and other lenders) to the public, and the cost of internal funds. Thus, internal funds, bank loans and other sources of financing are imperfect substitutes for firms. These imperfections related to credit market frictions causes monetary policychanges to affect both the bank lending channel and the balance sheet channel citep{Gertler1995}. The bank lending channel underpins the role of banks as financial intermediaries, as their business structure is designed to serve certain type of borrowers, being small to mid sized enterprises and households, where the problem of asymmetric information emerge citep{stiglitz81}. According to the theory, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The risk taking channel is thought to operate via three main mechanisms. First, the search for yield mechanism, with low (nominal) interest rates increasing incentives for banks to take on more risk citep{Rajan2005}. The second mechanism relates to the impact of low interest rates on real valuations, incomes, and cash flows. Low rates boost asset and collateral values while tending to reduce price volatility, which in turn downsizes the banks estimated probability of default, implying the belief that the increase in asset values are sustainable, encouraging both borrowers and banks to accept higher risk positions citep{Borio2012}. Third, monetary policy also affects risk taking through the reaction function of the central bank to negative shocks. The commitment of a central bank for lower (future) interest rates in the case of a threatening shock reduces the probability of large downside risks, thereby encouraging banks to assume greater risk.footnote{This effect, also known as the Greenspan or Bernanke put, operates through the textit{expected} lower interest rates rather than textit{current} low rates themselves. Its magnitude, however, depends on the current level of the policy rate. Anticipated interest rate reductions tend to correspond to a higher risk position when there is ... • 5. Electrical Fire in Club An electrical fire starts in a nightclub with at least 250 to 300 patrons inside and quickly spreads throughout the club. Due to the nightclub s location, in a high crime area of town near abandoned buildings, security bars cover the doors and windows. All occupants of the building, with the exception of the nightclub employees, are unaware of the other exits available during an emergency and a vast majority stampedes the front door to seek safety. As the fire continues to spread, heavy smoke proceeds to fill that main room where most of the 250 300 patrons were at the time. This heavy smoke causes patrons to lose visibility and have difficulty breathing. The patrons that have been able to escape the building suffer from major to minor injuries, while some patrons are still trapped. These patrons are suffering from burns and severe smoke inhalation (some may have possibly succumbed to the injuries). The nightclub s employees have exited the building through various exits and contacted 911 and emergency personnel (fire department, police department, paramedics, etc.) arrive within 10 to 15 minutes of the first call. How To Write An Essay About Hanging Ourselves Absurdity: Of Hanging and Humdrum World War II struck Europe in September of 1939 and lasted six long years, leaving behind a devastation that the world had never before seen. Adolf Hitler had carried out genocide against Jews, gays, crippled, and many more he deemed unfit . Thousands of lives had been lost, in traditional warfare, bombings of civilians, and even nuclear bombings. There was no reason that could justify this colossal loss of life. To try to survive and deal with the pain, a new form of theatre emerged: absurdism (Crabb). Absurdism rejected the rationality of realism and saw that while life is suffering and futile, that makes it kind of funny. Oscar Brockett claimed that the absurdist movement means that truth consists of chaos, contradictions, and inanities in everyday life . Both The Birthday Party and Waiting for Godotshow that Brockett nears correctness, but is not quite there. One thing is for certain: Waiting for Godot illustrates the inanity of everyday life. Inanity is defined as silly and dumb , but absurdism takes that to mean that life s futility is funny. Erasmus reveals this dichotomy on three levels: in the image of the box itself, in his genuine praise of Folly, and in the structure of the novel as a whole. Seven years later, the International Telecommunication Community adapted the definition of IoT in the ITU T Y.2060 (06/2012) publication stating that the IoT is a global infrastructure for the information society that enables advanced services by interconnecting physical and virtual things on the foundation of current and developing information and communication technologies (ITU, 2015). As they point out, it is impossible to know all that the future holds: Past experience tells us that today s first graders will graduate high schoolmost likely facing problems that do not yet exist (Cuoco et al., p. 1). Students have been taught mathematics in the same way for a long time, the authors claim. Students have been given a bag of facts to use in their approach to problem solving. This paper however, dwells much on the analysis of the arguments levelled in support of placed based development strategies as a recipe for regional development, with reference to Zimbabwe s provinces. By and large, development is a very broad and illusive concept hence there is no consensus among scholars as to what really constitutes development. Barca (2011) argues that place based development strategies or mechanisms are partially a response to the perceived failures of earlier regional development strategies and focus instead on tackling underutilised economic potential and reducing social exclusion, through supply of integrated goods and services tailored to local contexts and triggering innovation, which is critical to regional economic growth. In distinguishing place based development strategies from traditional development strategies, Barca (2011:221) argues that, place based approaches to regional development put greater emphasis on arguing that, the well being of each and every individual also depends on the context in which he or she lives . Critical to note however, is the fact that if regional development is to be effected in Zimbabwe s provinces, there is need to integrate place ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore its main strength comes from the intermolecular bonds and stacking of the material. Even though Kevlar is a very strong material, it is yet very light considering the high strain it can handle. The Yellow Wallpaper By Charlotte Perkins Stetson Essay LENSES The wallpaper in The Yellow Wallpaper is symbolic of the gender based oppression women of the patriarchal time period of its writing, faced; being infantised, not allowed to vote but expected to raise the children and take care of the house. The short story, The Yellow Wallpaper , written by Charlotte Perkins Stetson, is centred on the story of a woman diagnosed by her physician husband, John, with a slight hysterical tendency, or what we would call today, post natal depression. As a cure for the narrator s illness, John prescribes her with the rest cure as a treatment. Essentially, the rest cure is when the patient is assigned total bed rest in isolation, being over fed on fat laden foods such as cream (based on the belief that the increase of body volume lead to an increase in energy), massage and often the use of electricity for hysterical paroxysm. Despite the narrator s belief that congenial work, with excitement and change would be the cure, she, as a woman living in this male dominated society of 1892, is to follow her husband s method of treatment. This eventually leads to an increasing infatuation with the yellow wallpaper in the room of the narrator s confinement and the eventual deterioration of her mental health and sanity. Over the years, many individuals have been unfortunate to face the devastating effects of diseases such as diabetes, cancer, among others. However, the emergence of yet another deadly disease known as AIDShas again complicated matters. AIDS has proved to be one of the most fatal health condition across the world, and its impact in the society has grown to be a major global challenge today. The disease is essentially caused by the HIV virus, which can be spread from one person to another through sexual intercourse, blood transfusion, and sharing of cutting and piecing instruments with an infected person (Shukla, 2014). AIDS has not only claimed the lives of millions of people, but also has its economic implications to the nations of the world. Although various treatment procedures have been designed to help address this health threat, such as the use of antiretroviral therapies, the disease, and its associated effects, can only be dealt with effectively through the development of HIV/AIDS vaccine. Vaccinationhas gained great recognition as the most effective way of controlling and managing several fatal health conditions. Thanks to Edward Jenner s successful attempt on small pox, vaccines have been designed to help protect the human body against many diseases that would have otherwise caused massive deaths across the world (Macaulay, 2016). Think of what would have happened if all of these diseases were not prevented, and had to attack someone so that they are dealt with such as the case of the AIDS disease. It is very evident that once a disease has found its way into the human body, it acts as a trigger to several other issues that affect the various aspects of human life. Metzl and Hansen (2014) mention that diseases are normally in a complex relationship with every aspect of human life, and preventing them is very necessary. This is where vaccination comes handy. (excl. concl. stages)In Pleasantville, the filmmaker, Gary Ross, conveys his attitude towards change through the characters of David and Jennifer who are transported into the 1950s sitcom Pleasantville. He doesn t necessarily demonstrate changeto bear a positive result; rather, he addresses that change is essential to the development of society and self and that it is important to understand and accept change. It is used as a motif in Pleasantville for the majority of the beginning of Jennifer and David s adventure (until things start to change, that is). This is especially significant with all the subtle implications and allusions to a Nazi style dictatorship. For example, the burning of books is reminiscent of that in 1936 when the German government burnt all books which would oppose its rule, in fear that the society it governed would think of rebelling. Big Bob is the obvious ruler, as he is almost always seen with a low shot, making him look big and powerful to the audience. Bob s situation is similar, burning books to stop changes occurring. Books are seen as works of art which are derived from the imagination of thinking people. Bob s censorship practices extend to the prohibition of Mr Johnson from using colours to paint (that is, from using the full extent of his imagination) in his Code of Conduct. In this way, he is much like the German government in the 30s. However, he wants to continue his rule without any violent opposition; only pleasantness . There is irony however, as there is vandalism and disruption when the Milk Bar is broken into and sabotaged because of his encouragement, which is the exact opposite of pleasant . • 29. Art And The Holocaust In just twelve years, a heinous vision executed nearly six million Jewish people at the hands of Hitler and his followers, making the Holocaust debatably the most tragic and shameful event recorded in Earth s history. During this time, different races, ethnicities, and religious groups were persecuted and annihilated for their beliefs that conflicted with Hitler s persistence to eliminate the flaws of humanity. Hitler and his followers had one goal in mind: to cultivate a master race for the next generation. Under his guidance for Germany, countries were destroyed and millions were killed. Pain, death and suffering for millions, put towards an effort that would forever haunt survivors, and leave future generations struggling to grasp at understanding the past. As time has gone by, the number of Holocaust survivors has been decreasing expeditiously and history seems to be slipping away from one s fingertips; however, this specific strand of events and their survivor s legacy is continuing to reside in the current era, especially through art and literature. Novels, poetry, paintings, films, and other forms of art relating to the Holocaustquickly surfaced after the occurrence and still continue today. Artists search for a catharsis from the atrocious genocide that seems to surround them. With this newly spread genre of art, many critics rose up, like Adorno, a German philosopher, to prove that these artistic representations were degrading to the survivors and the actual ... Yet to understand Elizabeth s rise to power, one must understand the reign of her family. Her father, Henry VIII, at the time a Catholic, was famous not only for his reign but also for marrying six wives. While married to his first wife, Catherine, only one of their seven children survived, Mary Tudor. Wanting to produce a male heir and for the sake of convenience, Henry became Protestant. Her counsel, the majority of which consists of Catholics, urges her to make a decision. Duke of Norfolk (Christopher Ecclesston), a contender for the throne, is left in charge to make a final decision. In the middle of the movie, the viewer is shown a clip of the ending of the war; Scotland has won. The small rivers have turned red from all the open wounds of the soldiers and hundreds are lying dead in a big field across Mary of Guise s estate. In that scene Mary of Guise (Fanny Ardant), Queen of Scotland, walks out to find one of England s Protestant boys struggling to rise to his feet in English blood. Mary of Guise walks slowly up to his side and wipes his blood on a blue cloth, which represents the Scottish flag. She asks the boy to give that cloth to his queen. The scene ends with Mary of Guise saying, English blood on French colours, that will teach her to send young boys to war. Is that too bold a statement? I don t think so. Primarily because American culture probably doesn t exist in any real form. The closest we get to art is in our cinema. Art as a practiced form is lost. Literacy rates are abominable, museums are underfunded in response to the lack of public interest in viewing their wares, and art classes are practically non existent as more and more schools have cut those programs in response to budgetary concerns. Piercing blue eyes, sandy hair and the most contagious smile. These attributes are only surface deep, but there is one thing that runs through to her core. Called Gracie by her peers, she radiates the beautiful concept of grace. There have been two definite experiences in her past that seem to be the common thread in her life continually weaved by Gods grace. The first and most painful stitch occurred at the age of 10. Young Gracie witnessed her granddad, better known as Paw Paw, take his last breath. He was one of my best friends. I loved him and went to see him all the time. Paw Paw was diagnosed with cancer in January, and by the end of February he had passed away. I had been warned, and I was with him almost every day as he got sick. You might expect someone in this situation to experience anger and shock over this sudden death. This was not the case with Gracie. She was blessed, for the first time, with God s grace. • 36. Kitak Relationship In The Kite Runner Thesis: Khaled Hosseini strongly argues the importance of family coming together despite their differences because family is all a person has in the end. Amir and his father s weak relationship in Afghanistan changes when Amir finally accomplishes something Baba can be proud about, spreading light of a possible close relationship in the future. At the beginning of the novel, Baba is talking with his friend, Rahim Khan, about his worries for Amir not standing up for himself, when he is being bullied. Khan responds to Baba saying, Children aren t coloring books. You don t get to fill them in with your favorite colors (Hosseini 21). This quote illustrates the difficult relationship Amir and his father have with each other because Baba wants to mold him into the perfect son, but Amir does not find appreciation in the same things as Baba, causing this mold to be ruined. Amir and Baba being polar opposites causes them to naturally separate from each other because Baba likes building luxury to fit his ego, but Amir values the smaller gestures people do in life. Once Amir finally does something that makes Baba proud and improves their ego, Baba starts to appreciate Amir more and tries to do more things with him. This is depicted when Hosseini writes, Baba and I were finally friends (Hosseini 85). Although Amir thinks they are close, they are not as close as they could be because Baba usually invites friends and family to join them on their outings. Also, when they are alone it is very awkward for the two of them because they do not know each other very well. The reason Amir feels like he is gaining his father s acceptance is because he is taking him places, rather than ignoring his existence completely, which is a significant step compared to their relationship before. This step in their relationship illustrates they have a chance at becoming even closer in the future. The father and son relationship truly transforms when they move to the United States and both find appreciation in the other s differences because they only have each other. When they move it is very difficult for Baba to assimilate to life in America, causing him to get very frustrated. He starts to rely more on Amir for help and as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Which is a great argument to have, but it is one thing to argue that on a personal scale but when whole nations get involved that notion becomes a little more hazy. In Alexander Moseley s article Just War Theory he quotes Michael Walzer, a American political theorist and author of books such as Just and Unjust Wars and Spheres of Justice . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a much scarier concept to think about then it sounds. War, will not always have a winner but it will have someone or some nation that will come out on top. They will have the control of how things appeared to play out. We hope that the group that is right wins, but how can we be sure they are right? As explored earlier a country with better resources and a more stable economy has the upperhand. But just because a nation has more money does not mean they are on the right side of the war. According to Moseley At a deeper level, one can consider the role that civilians play in supporting an unjust war: to what extent are they morally culpable, and if they are culpable in giving moral, financial, or economic support to some extent, does that mean they may become legitimate targets? (Moseley 2005). The difficulty of using war to solve a problem is that the legitimacy of a target is determined by the ones who do the act, it is very hard to create a way of determining the justification for killing that all parties will agree upon. Even if there is a line that fits it can always be argued against one way or another. There can never be a correct answer to killing because it can be argued in either direction. Humans pride themselves on certainty, and creating solutions. War cannot solve a problem with any sort of certainty because it ultimately will come down to the interpretation of the individual and people will argue against the outcome no matter what.
