learning/teaching methods and the possibility for more digital based assessments. What we need to
think about is how this will be managed and how it will fit in with our system now mostly based

If computers are incorporated into the core curriculum for students especially those who are doing
NCEA it make me wonder the reasons why? At present for core classes such as English, Maths,
Sciences we only use computers sometimes, on occasion. Some examples could include use the
computer English (or any other subject requiring written/typed work) using Microsoft word to type up
essays and other pieces of writing that have often already been written on paper. In science even R.E.
computers are often used to research specifically for achievement standard internals requiring internet
research. Otherwise computers are used as study tools using sites for revision purposes, or typing
things up for a neater final product. However ultimately these subjects do not require much computer
use, much is taught and copied inside exercise books or work is done in a specific write in workbook

The Legacy Of The First Black U.s. Supreme Court Justice
The Legacy of the First Black U.S. Supreme Court Justice The life of Thurgood Marshall and the
legacy that he abandoned has affected the present day U.S. Legal Branch today. He did numerous
things throughout his life that were persuasive to the administration. He did as well as could be
expected to end all racial isolation. He had worked inside the Supreme Court to end the enduring
legacy of subjection in the nation. He additionally worked for the benefit of American culture
(Haddock). Marshall was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on July 2, 1908. He was the considerable
grandson of a slave who was conceived in the advanced Democratic Republic of the Congo; his
granddad was likewise a slave. His unique name was Thoroughgood, yet was in the end abbreviated to
Thurgood in second grade since he disdained spelling it. His dad, William Marshall, who was a
railroad doorman, and his mom Norma, an instructor, imparted in him a gratefulness for the United
States Constitution and the standard of law (Brownworth). In the wake of moving on from graduate
school, Marshall began a private law firm in Baltimore. He started his 25 year alliance with the
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1934 by speaking to the
association in the graduate school segregation suit Murray v. Pearson. In 1936, Marshall turned out to
be a piece of the national staff of the NAACP. In Murray v. Pearson, Marshall spoke to Donald Gaines

Emperor Claudius Essay
Introduction
Tiberius Claudius Nero Germanicus (b. 10 BC, d. 54 A.D.; emperor, 41 54 A.D.) was the third
emperor of the Julio Claudian dynasty. His reign represents a turning point in the history of the
Principate for a number of reasons, not the least for the manner of his accession and the implications it
carried for the nature of the office. During his reign he promoted administrators who did not belong to
the senatorial or equestrian classes, and was later vilified by authors who did. He followed Caesar in
carrying Roman arms across the English Channel into Britain but, unlike his predecessor, he initiated
the full scale annexation of Britain as a province, which remains today the most closely studied corner
of the Roman Empire. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, Claudius spent his entire childhood and youth in almost complete seclusion. The normal
tasks of an imperial prince came and went without official notice, and Claudius received no summons
to public office or orders to command troops on the frontiers
How he spent the voluminous free time of his youth is revealed by his later character: he read
voraciously. He became a scholar of considerable ability and composed works on all subjects in the
liberal arts, especially history; he was the last person known of who could read Etruscan. These skills,
and the knowledge of governmental institutions he acquired from studying history, were to stand him
in good stead when he came to power.
His father died on campaign when Claudius was only one year old, and his brother, Germanicus,
succumbed under suspicious circumstances in AD 19. His only other sibling to reach adulthood,
Livilla, became involved with Sejanus and fell from grace in AD 31. Through all this turmoil Claudius
survived, primarily through being ignored as an embarrassment and an idiot.
Claudius s fortunes changed somewhat when his unstable nephew, Gaius (Caligula), came to power in
the spring of 37 A.D. Gaius, it seems, liked to use his bookish, frail uncle as the butt of cruel jokes
and, in keeping with this pattern of behavior, promoted him to a consulship on 1 July 37 A.D. At 46
years of age, it was Claudius s first public office. Despite this sortie into public life, he seemed

Robert Johnson Research Paper
The Rise and Fall of Robert Johnson Destitute, rejected, and alone Robert Johnson seems to be in
complete despair when singing Crossroad Blues. Robert is acknowledged as The King of Delta Blues.
Born in Mississippi and known as a dirt poor African American boy. (Robert Johnson Blues
Foundation) he was recognized for his great lyrics, guitar playing and upmost contribution to artists.
Robert s songs and lyrics still live on today in artists such as; The Rolling Stones, that recorded Love
in Vain and Stop Breaking Down, Cream, who recorded Cross Road Blue (renamed Crossroad),
Fleetwoord Mac who recorded Hellhound on my Trail. (Charlton 7) Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and the
Allman Brothers, also great entertainers, recorded his songs (Robert Johnson Blues Foundation).
Johnson s lyrics expressed insatiable desire for wine, women, and song. Recordings were
manufactured in makeshift studios such as hotels or office buildings (Charlton 7). Essentially Robert

Catherine Earnshaw Character Analysis
The Dualism of Catherine Earnshaw s Character in Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights is a work
marked by bewildering characterization. Perhaps most complex of all is Emily s portrayal of Catherine
Earnshaw as a pitiful victim and an abusive victimizer. With such qualities, Catherine s character was
violently at odds with ideals of the Victorian womanhood. Namely, that a woman should be passive,
obedient, and an angel in the house. (Towheed, 2012). Indeed, not major characteristics of Bronte s
female protagonist. However, this victimizing behavior could be justified by Catherine s own
victimization; a mixture that is incapable of affecting one s own sympathizes towards her. Notably,
Catherine s first victim is herself. To enumerate, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Catherine is most affected by this loss. According to Howard, Martin, Berlin and Gunn (2012), this
absence could be seen as key to the instability of familial ties. Such instability is particularly obvious
in the growing gap between Mr. Earnshaw and his children. In the beginning Mr. Earnshaw is
introduced as a kind father, asking his children what to bring for them from Liverpool, however, after
his wife s death Mr. Earnshaw is unable to understand Jokes from his children and Catherine, on her
part, had no idea why her father should be crosser and less patient in his ailing condition (Bronte,
2009). While Nelly assert that Mr. Earnshaw was a kindhearted father though he was rather severe and
strict sometimes, this does not eliminate the fact his relationship with his children, following his wife s
death, was characterized by negligence and lack of understanding. Along with these observations,
Howard, Martin, Berlin and Gunn (2012) maintain that a child s separation from his mother is linked
to behavior problems, particularly for girls. Consequently, the gulf between Catherine and her father
along with her mother s death had negatively impacted her mental health and her character formation.
Lastly Catherine is also a victim of

Differences In The Movie Fahrenheit 451
There are many differences between Fahrenheit 451 movie directed by François Truffaut and the book
by Ray Bradbury. In the movie, the sound effects and music add suspense and curiosity such as when
the fire truck is moving there is a suspenseful music that makes the viewer wonder where the fire
truck is heading. Guy Montag stayed mostly the same, with a few minor differences. The general idea
that Firemen set fires to books stayed the same too. Some noticeable differences are the changes that
occurred to Clarisse. The major character differences take place with Clarisse, as well as partially Guy
Montag. To start, Clarisse and Mrs. Montag are portrayed by the same actress, confusing the viewer
unaware of which character the actress was portraying.

How Does Masculinity Affect Young Men Today
With life being as challenging as it is, it seems to be that it is only revolving around the challenges that
women face, but you can t forget that men also go through the same challenges. With everything on
the news and current media being about feminism people often forget that men also have problems
and deal with hardships like anyone else. This leads me to say that one of the main troubles that young
men have today is how society defines masculinity. Society plays a huge role in a young man s life
due to all the social media outputs so how all these outputs portray masculinity is a huge problem for
the young men of today.
To begin with, the way society portrays masculinity is in a sort of fashion that oppresses young men
by not only making

Socio-Economic Crisis In The Film A Dog s Life By Charlie...
A Dog s Life: A Dog Eat Dog World Due to the strong comedic performance of Charlie Chaplin in his
iconic film A Dog s Life, many forget the dark socio economic crisis that Chaplin was seeking to
unveil throughout the film. To elaborate, this film was first released in the U.S. in 1918, the same year
that World War I ended, so while the humor portrayed through Chaplin s character, Tramp, may have
eased the sensibilities of a tired and war torn country, the whole film had dark socio economic
undertones. For example, the opening scene features Tramp, a homeless gentleman currently calling a
vacant lot his home. Throughout this scene Tramp struggled to maintain his composure and dignity
against the vast evils of a drafty bum; this scene certainly elicited giggles from the audience, but it
also highlighted the woes of a man down on his luck who s only concern was survival. Similarly in the
second scene, we met Scraps, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Tramp is starving he finds food, when he is bored and lonely he goes to find some friends at the
club, and when he sees someone in trouble he helps anyway he can. All of these qualities are
portrayed multiple times throughout the film primarily by Tramp s interactions with Scraps; however
later on Edna, a lady at the club serves to further convince the audience of Tramp s child like good
naturedness. Although it may not be outrightly apparent in today s day and age Tramp enters the
equivalent of a strip club and is greeted by Edna, the shy new girl who appears highly uncomfortable,
Tramp seeing her dilemma greets her and begins to make her feel at ease, until he is thrown out
because he has no money. During this scene, the audience is once again moved by Tramp s
compassionate nature and Chaplin s ability to confront hard issues with subtlety and humor is once

A Child s Role With The Parent And Who Is A Person That...
A father is a person that supports the family and who is there to help the mother take care of children.
A mother is someone who takes care of her children in the best of her ability in the early stages of
their lives, and also later on. A pair of parents responsibilities is to take care of the family, do what is
best for their children, and teach them to walk in the right path. They are not to be selfish on their
decisions to be happy by themselves without their children. The most disturbing subject these days is;
Divorce caused by irresponsible parents and accusation through the custody and alimony process.
People are smarter these days, and end their marriage before it gets long enough to pay alimony, child
support for their stepchildren, or pregnancy of their current spouse. With the starting of one bad
parenting, there are fathers that try to accuse the mothers of adultery, which leads to refusing of the
children; all to just avoid child support. They are awfully good at lying and accusing at court and to
any witness they can make to write false claimed letter to the court. There is something called Joint
Custody which gives two parents the right to receive their children s welfare and not paying child
support. The poor children are constantly on a visitation schedule, and have no freedom to decide what
would be best for them. One mediator gets the judge to decide everything for all types of families.
Irresponsible parents do anything to get what they want. If they

What Is Poverty In The United States
Poverty The existing of poverty in the United States is very prominent even in the 21st century.
Poverty can affect all race, gender, society, and community. However, if this does occur, no one
particular person is exempt from it. There is no labeling on who will be the next individual or family
that will reap this unfavorable thing. Unfortunately, poverty in the United States can attack a
household at any time. Once this happens, poverty can last for a lifetime or a certain period of time.
According to the text, every person has an one in five chance of being poor in any given year, but
poverty in one year does not predict poverty in the future years (p. 180). The text describes this

Filipino Culture In The Philippines

The Filipino Culture
Filipinos are the second largest Asian group in the United States. In the past data has been hard to
obtain about Filipino Americans, primarily because of inconsistences in coding race and ethnicity in
research projects. Demographics of Filipino Americans did not start being properly recorded until the
early twentieth century, when the Filipino Islands became part of the United States territory. Even with
the limited data, they have gathered enough information on the Filipino culture. Filipino American
beliefs differ drastically from that of Americans, such as their culture, health rituals and religious
practices that may make healthcare more difficult (Dela Cruz, 2010).
Studies of the Filipino American health practices show that Filipinos who reside in a rural area are
more knowledgeable in home remedies, super natural ailments, traditional healing techniques, where
those from urban areas rely more on Western Medicine and over the counter drugs. In both settings,
indigenous folk and western medicine is used simultaneously. A popular self medication among these
groups is Chinese hot/cold application system (Pasma), and Chinese oils which sometimes perceived
as a remedy to all ailments such as headaches, dizziness, relaxing, or the common cold. If home
remedies do not work, many seek a local healer who uses treatments which includes roots and herbs.

Incorporation of Information Technology Solutions Essay
Due to dramatic changes in organisational management, technology plays an important role in today
business environment. According to Groomer Murthy (1989) incorporation of information technology
solutions are becoming increasingly important for all businesses in order to operate successfully. One
way that many businesses have implemented information technology on a large scale (Groomer
Murthy, 1989) is by setting up Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to achieve their business

And it is the tool that facilitates the business not only to nourish its operation but also flourish its

ERP systems as configurable information systems packages that integrate information and information
based processes within and cross functional areas in an organization .
Enterprise resource planning software such as Oracle and SAP is highly effective tools to manage and
analyse the multidimensional aspects of businesses such as financials, operations and corporate
services, human capital management, etc. (Priyadarshini, 2002). A company using the ERP financial
products (Priyadarshini, 2002) can save a lot of money over the long term and the organization s
productivity will be improved. Furthermore Morris (2011) suggested that those firms which are
implementing ERP systems are less likely to report internal control weaknesses compared to non ERP
implementing firms. However Kwasi Salam (2004) noted that ERP implementation is very risky as it
requires large amount of investments and significant organisational resources.

What Are the Challenges in the Implementation of Erp System!
What are the challenges in the implementation of ERP system!
Information systems play a vital role in improving the competitiveness of a company. There are many
types of enterprise information software packages which are available in the market since the year of
90s till today (Mandal Gunasekaran, 2003). Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is one of them. Due
to intense competition around the world, many of the manufacturing company had decided to

Big bang and the phased in approach are the two general approaches to achieve this objective. The big
bang method is known to be more ambitious and risky of the other two. Most organizations are using
this approach to change the operations of their outdated system to the latest system which in one event
implements the ERP system throughout the entire company. This particular method had certain
advantages, where it has been linked to few system failures. This is because during the
implementation of ERP system is going on, on day one of implementing, the employees of the
organization will not have the capability to understand the new system. Therefore, it brings the feeling
to the employees like learning a new job. In many cases, most companies would not have sufficient
knowledge of functionality of the system that they had replace and also because ERP system serves
the entire organization and employees who does data input points will find themselves entering more
data than they used to do previously with the old system. Nevertheless, the main problem with big
bang approach is that the entire company is affected and these problems usually occurred whenever
any new system is implemented. Therefore, the speed of the new system usually suffers and causes the
interruption to day to day activity of the company (Hall, 2007).

With their overhead being set at 300% that means they are increase the normal rates up larger than
needed, per each line of product. This has created a bit of an issue for the company as well since the
gross margins for the pumps are down lower than expected. Problem The valves that the company
makes are produced using four different machine components and are produced and shipped in large
lots. Scott feels as if the competitors are now able to match their quality but have yet to try and gain
market share by cutting the prices of their valves. Additionally, the pumps are made using five
components from machines and then assembled into the final product. These are then shipping to the
industrial companies that have purchased these pumps. One issue is that competitors keep lowering
their prices on their own pumps, so Wilkerson has to match these and lower their prices as well. This
makes it hard for Wilkerson to keep their gross margin profits up since their prices continue to lower.
Last, the flow controllers need more labor and machining components than either the pumps or the
valves. Additionally, there are many other alternatives that are used in the industry so more product
runs are needed for these versus the pumps or valves. Also, more shipments are needed for these since
there are shipped to industrial companies. The flow controllers were doing better than the valves or the
pumps since Wilkerson was able to raise their

Implementation Of A Market Testing
Introduction Businesses over the years have learned from their mistakes, and make the necessary
adjustments within their organizations to eliminate the issues and prevent them from occurring again.
By conducting market testing, manufactures can collect input from the end user, then analyze the
information to determine the best location to place their products for purchase. The various demands
received by manufactures can be mind boggling and without proper handling it can lead to
devastation. Daily, manufactures deal with internal demands from their employees; from adjusting
work schedules to allow for vacations, to better healthcare insurance, or higher wages. Moreover,
companies receive demands from their distributors, requesting an increase in product production to
meet the demand from the retailers. Along with increase in production, there is demands for
transportation, which all of these demands affect the manufacture s bottom line and without proper
planning and budgeting, these demands may lead the manufacture out of business. Product distribution
is critical and when the product is not available it affects more than just the manufacture.
Understanding the direct and indirect approach for distributing a product along with choosing either
an extensive, intensive, or exclusive distribution channel will allow the product to reach the
distributor, retailer, and consumer all while making everyone in the supply channel happy. Question 1

Character Analysis Of The Storyteller By Antonia Michaelis
The book I choose to read was The Storyteller by Antonia Michaelis. Anna is a girl who likes to dream
and was quite an innocent child despite being in highschool realty hasn t hit her yet, that was until she
meet Abel also known as the polish peddler. He is a drug dealer and that was who Anna soon came to
love. Throughout this novel there is chaos and love. The main characters who went through the most
character development was Anna becoming strong, Abel becoming unstable, and Micha losing her
innocence. Anna is an innocent teenager. She is able to block out all of the bad and focus on what
matters to her. Even if her best friends do drugs and aren t the best of people she was still able to
dream big and stay out of trouble. Anna stayed outside. She felt stupid. She wanted to think about the
old sled with the red stripe, but instead she thought soap bubble. I live in a soap bubble. The whole
school knows things I don t. But maybe I don t want to know them. (Michalis 7) As the story
progressed she began to change. She meet the Abel also known as the polish peddler. Abel is the
definition of a bad guy and with that Anna began to change. Instead of dreaming for herself she
wanted her polish peddler to have a better life. He is the bad boy for a reason but that doesn t mean he
is when he gets home. Anna realizes that he has a little sister named Micha. Anna begins to see things
that she shouldn t have and learns new scary facts. While at the same time she is

Classic Vampirism and Recent Changes
CLASSIC VAMPIRISM AND RECENT CHANGES
Change often occurs due to the simple nature of time. What once stood as a finite and steadfast
definition will shift and evolve. Genres bleed into one another and mix mythologies. The realm of the
supernatural in literature does not lie outside this trend. Wizards no longer call themselves Merlin and
spend their days under the patronage of a heroic king; the average wizard now goes by common
names like Harry or Ron and attends school, saving the world on the side. Cyclops presently means a
man with laser eyes who wears leather and fights crime, not a one eyed island beast. Vampirism does
not escape such change. No longer can one consistently find a vampire to be the bloodthirsty life
sucking demon of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Control of animals: Power extends over many creatures, including insects, rats, fleas, and bats.
Eternal life: Varies in length; not all vampires are immortal.
Scale walls: Vampires are as nimble as spiders.
Transformation: Vampires can turn into bats, cats, dogs, wolves, butterflies, insects, rats, birds, fleas,
mice, and locusts.
Drain life force or psychic energy: An attribute of the psychic vampire. (Bunson 212)
The varied and numerous strengths of the traditional vampire serve to aid them in feeding on and
attacking humans. The supernatural qualities of the vampire s abilities only further the distinction of
vampires as inhuman. Weaknesses and methods of destroying a vampire are likewise listed:
Common Methods:
Staking: The most commonly used method in the world.
Beheading: Avoid splattering of blood.
Sunlight: Some aged and powerful vampires are immune.
Cremation: Found throughout the world; scatter the ashes.
Piercing with a sword: A blessed sword should be used.
Immersing in water: A bathtub can be used, but body disposal may prove a problem.
Drenching in garlic and holy water: Large amounts have to be hauled to the gravesite to assure a clean
kill; oil, wine, or vinegar can also be used.
Touching with a crucifix: Destroys a young vampire but is normally used only as a repellent.
Trapping in the grave: Iron bits, red peas, rice (for Chinese species), roses, garlic, stones, and holy
water can be used. Extracting

This is evidence that online shopping is affecting the viability of physical storefronts to stay in
business. Identify the main problems and offer solution. There are a growing number of people
choosing online shopping and this growing trend has emerged all over the world over the last few
decades. Online shopping cuts a lot of hassle and stress out of going to the store but also has a
possibility of charging more so people are more and more interested meanwhile many would argue
that it is an easy alternative to leaving the house and going to the mall. Online shopping is making
things much easier in terms of time. The only thing you have to do is go to the ... Show more content

So storefronts can do the shipping for free then people will turn to more interested. For example, a
customer went shopping to a mall and saw a hat afterwards he wants to buy he can order by making a
call to the shop. It is very comfortable and the customer can trust the store because he already saw the
hat. But with online shopping people never see the product before so they can not trust that the
product is the same one in the website or not. In this strategy, storefronts can attack online shopping
on the point that people can buy things from their home or everywhere they want.
Secondly, Storefront businesses should open more branch shops because it is easy for customers to go
to the shop nearest their home and they will see the real product after which they can make a decision
to buy it. The weakness of online shopping is that you have to be really careful in choosing the site
from which you want to buy the things you need. Some sites just lose your money and will not give
you anything. Another problem is the quality of the things you get. For instance, if you order food and
you get an old or bad item you are able to send it back but you will not get anything for that. However,
if the things you are looking for are not far away from your house it must be easier and better to buy
from the shop than the internet because you do not have to wait for

The Evolution Of The Pc And Microsoft Essay
The Evolution of the PC and Microsoft
Xerox, Apple, IBM, and Compaq all played major roles in the development of the Personal Computer,
or ³PC,² and the success of Microsoft. Though it may seem so, the computer industry did not just pop
up overnight. It took many years of dedication, hard work, and most importantly, thievery to turn the
personal computer from a machine the size of a Buick, used only by zit faced ³ nerds,² to the very
machine I am typing this report on.
Xerox started everything off by creating the first personal computer, the ALTO, in 1973. However,
Xerox did not release the computer because they did not think that was the direction the industry was

So they developed a process called ³open architecture.² Open architecture meant buying all the
components separately, piecing them together, and then slapping the IBM name on it. It was quite
effective. Now all IBM needed was software. Enter Bill Gates.
Gates, along with buddy Paul Allen, had started a software company called Microsoft. Gates was one
of two major contenders for IBM. The other was a man named Gary Kildall. IBM came to Kildall
first, but he turned them away
(He has yet to stop kicking himself) and so they turned to Big Bad Bill Gates and Microsoft.
Microsoft would continue supplying IBM with software until IBM insisted
Microsoft develop Q/DOS, which was compatible only with IBM equipment.
Microsoft was also engineering Windows, their own separate software, but IBM wanted Q/DOS.
By this time, PC clones were popping up all over. The most effective clone was the Compaq. Compaq
introduced the first BIOS (Basic Input Output
System) chip. The spearheaded a clone market that not only used DOS, but later
Windows as well, beginning the incredible success of Microsoft.
With all of these clones, Apple was in dire need of something new and spectacular. So when Steve
Jobs got invited to Xerox to check out some new

Essay on Dialects in American Literature
Dialects in American Literature
In the late 19th and early 20th centuries dialect was not common in American Literature. Writers who
attempted to accurately capture American dialect and slang often failed to make it believable. In my
essay, Dialects in American Literature, I will compare and contrast three writers who used dialect in
their writings and explain the difference between effective and ineffective use of dialect. The writers I
will be discussing are Mark Twain, Bret Harte, and William Dean Howells.
The use of dialect in American literature comes from using a combination of realism and regionalism.
According to dictionary.com realism is an inclination toward literal ... Show more content on

In The Outcasts of Poker Flat, a group of inappropriate people are thrown out of a small western town.
What I mean by inappropriate, is that they were not liked by the local citizens. They were considered
outcasts. The outcast characters were, quot;Duchess, also known as quot;Mother Shipton, quot; and
quot;Uncle Billy, quot; a suspected sluice robber and confirmed drunkard. The other character in the
story is Mr. John Oakhurst, a gambler. Bret Harte establishes regionalism through description of his
characters and also the dialogue that he gives his characters. For example, Uncle Billy says quot;Is
this yer a d d picnic? quot; With inward scorn, as he surveyed the sylvan group, the glancing firelight,
and the tethered animals in the foreground hurst returns to the group he speaks in a particular dialect.
This dialogue Hate uses is a great example of capturing dialect that is local to time and place. The
dialect portrays the way people actually talked. The story takes original characters and places them in
a typical western situation. Harte uses regionalism through dialect to successfully portray his
characters the way they actually are. I enjoyed reading The Outcasts of Poker Flat, and truly believe
that the use of dialect successfully portrayed the people of the time. According to Edward O Brien in
an essay written in 1923 about the advance of the

Ethics and Moral Reasoning
Instructor Zummuna Davis

Singer s Famine, Affluence, and Morality In the Peter Singer s article Famine, Affluence, and Morality
, he discusses the way that people should take moral in their help toward the support of the Bengal
famine crisis. Singer states three obligations that would help the Bengal region through the means of a
wealthy person, and those individuals living life on a day to day basis. In this paper I will expound on
Singer s goal for each obligation, explain the three counter arguments with Singer s response, define
and identify marginal utility as it relates to Singer s arguments, and compare the ideas of duty ... Show

That persons with very low incomes may merit our sympathy is accepted, but sympathy leads to
charity, rather than to the involuntary exploitation of the better off (Narveson, 2004). Singer also says
that people with a maintainable amount of wealth should give more than the X amount asked for,
being that the predicament that some are not able to give or they can give less than the amount asked
for. Another, more serious reason for not giving to famine relief funds is that until there is effective
population control, relieving famine merely postpone starvation (Singer, 1972). The final and third
counter argument is that Singer question exactly how much we should be giving away. In this counter
argument, Singer talks of giving until one reaches marginal utility; or in the case where suffering
would have greatly increased or decreased in his self, if he gave more than one can afford to give. One
should avoid bad things from happening or sacrificing too much to help those in need. Giving until
you reach your marginal utility is only required. Singer believes we are obliged to give money away
until our sacrifice is of comparable moral importance to the agony of people starving to death
(Specter, 1999). This is our duty to do so. An example

My Environmental Ethic By Theodore Roosevelt
My Environmental Ethic Here is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural
resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children s
children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its
romance. (Theodore Roosevelt) My environmental ethic is to improve the environment to sustain
living on earth. People in the world today don t really take into effect the way they hurt the
environment. People don t care where they throw their garbage or burn chemicals that are unhealthy,
yet it could hinder your health ultimately. The earth is a wonderful and beautiful place. People have to
take care of it for the next generation to come, or how will people survive on a planet that has toxic
environment. Let me explain: what experiences I have had, Persistent challenges, education, religious
beliefs or influences that shaped my world today. Persistent challenges you are faced with population
and consumption, which is that there is too many people don t have enough food to survive plus, the
more people there are the more they destroy forests and swamps to grow more food. From destroying
the ecosystem which ultimately hurts the earth. Climate change is another big factor that destroys the
earth. With that there was a 35% increase of greenhouse gases also known as carbon dioxide

Petruchio In The Taming Of The Shrew
In the Elizabethan era, Petruchio s actions may have been somewhat appropriate but in today s society,
such treatment is disapproved of. Petruchio puts Katherina through constant abuse such as starvation
and sleep deprivation. These actions could easily lead to years of jail time today. Women nowadays
are treated with much more respect and are allowed to live independently and can have a say in things.
In William Shakespeare s The taming of the shrew
Katherina Minola (whose ideas and views would be appropriate in modern society) is treated very
poorly and is seen as a wild beast. Petruchio (Katherina s husband) inhumanly treats Katherina by
depriving her of basic human needs, humiliating her publicly, and abusing her mentally.

He and his servant Grumio continuously and constantly wake Katherina up at night, depriving her of
sleep. They also bring food to her at mealtimes only to make an excuse for her to take it away so she
can t have any. Grumio (knowing full well that Katherina is very tired and hungry) names many of her
favourite meat dishes and offers to bring them but then comes up with an excuse for not being able to.
Katherina, seeing Grumio s intention was never to bring her any of the dishes gets very angry and says
That feedst me with the very name of meat (4.3.34 35). This shows that the servants of the household
are helping Petruchio with his plan and that Katherina is alone in this situation. Petruchio, knowing
that hunger is a basic human weakness uses this against Katherina as a way to break her spirit and
make her powerless. He takes full advantage and uses this as just one of his many ways used to tame
Katherina. Katherina who has been mistreated since the moment she married Petruchio now
complains of her problems to Grumio saying Giddy for lack of sleep with oaths kept waking with
brawling fed (4.3 9 10). She admits herself that she is dizzy with lack of sleep which proves Petruchio
really has been mistreating her. She being a woman

John F Kennedy Camelot Analysis
Jacqueline Kennedy s smiling face shines out from the surface of Andy Warhol s Jackie, embodying
Camelot , the dream of a new American renaissance that accompanied John F. Kennedy s election as
the 35th President of the United States. Warhol based this painting on a press photograph of the First
Lady, taken just hours before an assassin s bullet shattered the dream. The First Lady appears relaxed
and glamorous in this intimate portrait with her pillbox hat and fur collared coat. Marking out this
screen s rare quality, we can clearly see the President over her right shoulder, smiling enthusiastically,
blissfully unaware of the impending tragedy. Warhol seized upon this image, one of many of Jackie
that saturated the media for days and days after the president s death. The media process fascinated
Warhol, as did the ensuing frenzy and demand for national and international grief. He took this image

strength. The president s glamorous widow had the intense sympathies of millions, and the death of
her husband only enshrined her role as a cultural symbol. After John F. Kennedy s death, Jackie
symbolized hope and sympathy for an entire nation, and while Jackie reminds us of his earlier works,
it also creates a complex fusion between emotion and image, between Pop and popularity. Standing on
the brink of his Death and Disaster series, Warhol s portrait of Jackie encapsulates celebrity s
pervasive glare in the midst of personal

EVALUATION OF BYOD WITHIN JOHN PAUL II HIGH SCHOOL As explained in the overview BYOD (Bring your own devices) and BYOB (Bring your own Browser) are brand new information systems for sharing information within JPII. It introduces more electronic learning/teaching methods and the possibility for more digital based assessments. What we need to think about is how this will be managed and how it will fit in with our system now mostly based around the school network and physical written documents. If computers are incorporated into the core curriculum for students especially those who are doing NCEA it make me wonder the reasons why? At present for core classes such as English, Maths, Sciences we only use computers sometimes, on occasion. Some examples could include use the computer English (or any other subject requiring written/typed work) using Microsoft word to type up essays and other pieces of writing that have often already been written on paper. In science even R.E. computers are often used to research specifically for achievement standard internals requiring internet research. Otherwise computers are used as study tools using sites for revision purposes, or typing things up for a neater final product. • 3. The Legacy Of The First Black U.s. Supreme Court Justice The Legacy of the First Black U.S. Supreme Court Justice The life of Thurgood Marshall and the legacy that he abandoned has affected the present day U.S. Legal Branch today. He did numerous things throughout his life that were persuasive to the administration. He did as well as could be expected to end all racial isolation. He had worked inside the Supreme Court to end the enduring legacy of subjection in the nation. He additionally worked for the benefit of American culture (Haddock). Marshall was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on July 2, 1908. He was the considerable grandson of a slave who was conceived in the advanced Democratic Republic of the Congo; his granddad was likewise a slave. His unique name was Thoroughgood, yet was in the end abbreviated to Thurgood in second grade since he disdained spelling it. His dad, William Marshall, who was a railroad doorman, and his mom Norma, an instructor, imparted in him a gratefulness for the United States Constitution and the standard of law (Brownworth). In the wake of moving on from graduate school, Marshall began a private law firm in Baltimore. He started his 25 year alliance with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in 1934 by speaking to the association in the graduate school segregation suit Murray v. Pearson. In 1936, Marshall turned out to be a piece of the national staff of the NAACP. In Murray v. Pearson, Marshall spoke to Donald Gaines Murray, a dark Amherst College graduate with ... • 4. Emperor Claudius Essay Introduction Tiberius Claudius Nero Germanicus (b. 10 BC, d. 54 A.D.; emperor, 41 54 A.D.) was the third emperor of the Julio Claudian dynasty. His reign represents a turning point in the history of the Principate for a number of reasons, not the least for the manner of his accession and the implications it carried for the nature of the office. During his reign he promoted administrators who did not belong to the senatorial or equestrian classes, and was later vilified by authors who did. He followed Caesar in carrying Roman arms across the English Channel into Britain but, unlike his predecessor, he initiated the full scale annexation of Britain as a province, which remains today the most closely studied corner of the Roman Empire. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, Claudius spent his entire childhood and youth in almost complete seclusion. The normal tasks of an imperial prince came and went without official notice, and Claudius received no summons to public office or orders to command troops on the frontiers How he spent the voluminous free time of his youth is revealed by his later character: he read voraciously. He became a scholar of considerable ability and composed works on all subjects in the liberal arts, especially history; he was the last person known of who could read Etruscan. These skills, and the knowledge of governmental institutions he acquired from studying history, were to stand him in good stead when he came to power. His father died on campaign when Claudius was only one year old, and his brother, Germanicus, succumbed under suspicious circumstances in AD 19. His only other sibling to reach adulthood, Livilla, became involved with Sejanus and fell from grace in AD 31. Through all this turmoil Claudius survived, primarily through being ignored as an embarrassment and an idiot. Claudius s fortunes changed somewhat when his unstable nephew, Gaius (Caligula), came to power in the spring of 37 A.D. Gaius, it seems, liked to use his bookish, frail uncle as the butt of cruel jokes and, in keeping with this pattern of behavior, promoted him to a consulship on 1 July 37 A.D. At 46 years of age, it was Claudius s first public office. Despite this sortie into public life, he seemed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Robert Johnson Research Paper The Rise and Fall of Robert Johnson Destitute, rejected, and alone Robert Johnson seems to be in complete despair when singing Crossroad Blues. Robert is acknowledged as The King of Delta Blues. Born in Mississippi and known as a dirt poor African American boy. (Robert Johnson Blues Foundation) he was recognized for his great lyrics, guitar playing and upmost contribution to artists. Robert s songs and lyrics still live on today in artists such as; The Rolling Stones, that recorded Love in Vain and Stop Breaking Down, Cream, who recorded Cross Road Blue (renamed Crossroad), Fleetwoord Mac who recorded Hellhound on my Trail. (Charlton 7) Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and the Allman Brothers, also great entertainers, recorded his songs (Robert Johnson Blues Foundation). Johnson s lyrics expressed insatiable desire for wine, women, and song. Recordings were manufactured in makeshift studios such as hotels or office buildings (Charlton 7). Essentially Robert ... As one listens to the lyrics of Crossroad Blues you can t help but feel the dismal state that Johnson is singing about and how they seem to pertain to his own personal life. Ironically, two years after Johnson recorded the Crossroad Blues his lifestyle was responsible for his death. At the age of twenty seven 27 years old, it was believed that he was poisoned by a woman he had possibly had an affair with of even by a scorned husband of such a woman (Biography.com). • 7. Catherine Earnshaw Character Analysis The Dualism of Catherine Earnshaw s Character in Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights is a work marked by bewildering characterization. Perhaps most complex of all is Emily s portrayal of Catherine Earnshaw as a pitiful victim and an abusive victimizer. With such qualities, Catherine s character was violently at odds with ideals of the Victorian womanhood. Namely, that a woman should be passive, obedient, and an angel in the house. (Towheed, 2012). Indeed, not major characteristics of Bronte s female protagonist. However, this victimizing behavior could be justified by Catherine s own victimization; a mixture that is incapable of affecting one s own sympathizes towards her. Notably, Catherine s first victim is herself. To enumerate, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Catherine is most affected by this loss. According to Howard, Martin, Berlin and Gunn (2012), this absence could be seen as key to the instability of familial ties. Such instability is particularly obvious in the growing gap between Mr. Earnshaw and his children. In the beginning Mr. Earnshaw is introduced as a kind father, asking his children what to bring for them from Liverpool, however, after his wife s death Mr. Earnshaw is unable to understand Jokes from his children and Catherine, on her part, had no idea why her father should be crosser and less patient in his ailing condition (Bronte, 2009). While Nelly assert that Mr. Earnshaw was a kindhearted father though he was rather severe and strict sometimes, this does not eliminate the fact his relationship with his children, following his wife s death, was characterized by negligence and lack of understanding. Along with these observations, Howard, Martin, Berlin and Gunn (2012) maintain that a child s separation from his mother is linked to behavior problems, particularly for girls. Consequently, the gulf between Catherine and her father along with her mother s death had negatively impacted her mental health and her character formation. Lastly Catherine is also a victim of ... In the movie, the sound effects and music add suspense and curiosity such as when the fire truck is moving there is a suspenseful music that makes the viewer wonder where the fire truck is heading. Guy Montag stayed mostly the same, with a few minor differences. The general idea that Firemen set fires to books stayed the same too. Some noticeable differences are the changes that occurred to Clarisse. The major character differences take place with Clarisse, as well as partially Guy Montag. • 9. How Does Masculinity Affect Young Men Today With life being as challenging as it is, it seems to be that it is only revolving around the challenges that women face, but you can t forget that men also go through the same challenges. With everything on the news and current media being about feminism people often forget that men also have problems and deal with hardships like anyone else. This leads me to say that one of the main troubles that young men have today is how society defines masculinity. Society plays a huge role in a young man s life due to all the social media outputs so how all these outputs portray masculinity is a huge problem for the young men of today. To begin with, the way society portrays masculinity is in a sort of fashion that oppresses young men by not only making ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Socio-Economic Crisis In The Film A Dog s Life By Charlie... A Dog s Life: A Dog Eat Dog World Due to the strong comedic performance of Charlie Chaplin in his iconic film A Dog s Life, many forget the dark socio economic crisis that Chaplin was seeking to unveil throughout the film. To elaborate, this film was first released in the U.S. in 1918, the same year that World War I ended, so while the humor portrayed through Chaplin s character, Tramp, may have eased the sensibilities of a tired and war torn country, the whole film had dark socio economic undertones. For example, the opening scene features Tramp, a homeless gentleman currently calling a vacant lot his home. Throughout this scene Tramp struggled to maintain his composure and dignity against the vast evils of a drafty bum; this scene certainly elicited giggles from the audience, but it also highlighted the woes of a man down on his luck who s only concern was survival. Similarly in the second scene, we met Scraps, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although it may not be outrightly apparent in today s day and age Tramp enters the equivalent of a strip club and is greeted by Edna, the shy new girl who appears highly uncomfortable, Tramp seeing her dilemma greets her and begins to make her feel at ease, until he is thrown out because he has no money. During this scene, the audience is once again moved by Tramp s compassionate nature and Chaplin s ability to confront hard issues with subtlety and humor is once again ... • 12. A Child s Role With The Parent And Who Is A Person That... A father is a person that supports the family and who is there to help the mother take care of children. A mother is someone who takes care of her children in the best of her ability in the early stages of their lives, and also later on. A pair of parents responsibilities is to take care of the family, do what is best for their children, and teach them to walk in the right path. They are not to be selfish on their decisions to be happy by themselves without their children. The most disturbing subject these days is; Divorce caused by irresponsible parents and accusation through the custody and alimony process. People are smarter these days, and end their marriage before it gets long enough to pay alimony, child support for their stepchildren, or pregnancy of their current spouse. With the starting of one bad parenting, there are fathers that try to accuse the mothers of adultery, which leads to refusing of the children; all to just avoid child support. They are awfully good at lying and accusing at court and to any witness they can make to write false claimed letter to the court. There is something called Joint Custody which gives two parents the right to receive their children s welfare and not paying child support. Filipino Culture In The Philippines The Filipino Culture Carla Cravey, Lindsay Hill, Jeanette Gass Carl Albert State College The Filipino Culture Filipinos are the second largest Asian group in the United States. In the past data has been hard to obtain about Filipino Americans, primarily because of inconsistences in coding race and ethnicity in research projects. Demographics of Filipino Americans did not start being properly recorded until the early twentieth century, when the Filipino Islands became part of the United States territory. Even with the limited data, they have gathered enough information on the Filipino culture. Filipino American beliefs differ drastically from that of Americans, such as their culture, health rituals and religious practices that may make healthcare more difficult (Dela Cruz, 2010). Studies of the Filipino American health practices show that Filipinos who reside in a rural area are more knowledgeable in home remedies, super natural ailments, traditional healing techniques, where those from urban areas rely more on Western Medicine and over the counter drugs. In both settings, indigenous folk and western medicine is used simultaneously. A popular self medication among these groups is Chinese hot/cold application system (Pasma), and Chinese oils which sometimes perceived as a remedy to all ailments such as headaches, dizziness, relaxing, or the common cold. Additionally, the pumps are made using five components from machines and then assembled into the final product. These are then shipping to the industrial companies that have purchased these pumps. One issue is that competitors keep lowering their prices on their own pumps, so Wilkerson has to match these and lower their prices as well. This makes it hard for Wilkerson to keep their gross margin profits up since their prices continue to lower. Implementation Of A Market Testing Introduction Businesses over the years have learned from their mistakes, and make the necessary adjustments within their organizations to eliminate the issues and prevent them from occurring again. By conducting market testing, manufactures can collect input from the end user, then analyze the information to determine the best location to place their products for purchase. The various demands received by manufactures can be mind boggling and without proper handling it can lead to devastation. Daily, manufactures deal with internal demands from their employees; from adjusting work schedules to allow for vacations, to better healthcare insurance, or higher wages. Moreover, companies receive demands from their distributors, requesting an increase in product production to meet the demand from the retailers. For example, a customer went shopping to a mall and saw a hat afterwards he wants to buy he can order by making a call to the shop. But with online shopping people never see the product before so they can not trust that the product is the same one in the website or not. In this strategy, storefronts can attack online shopping on the point that people can buy things from their home or everywhere they want. Secondly, Storefront businesses should open more branch shops because it is easy for customers to go to the shop nearest their home and they will see the real product after which they can make a decision to buy it. The weakness of online shopping is that you have to be really careful in choosing the site from which you want to buy the things you need. The other character in the story is Mr. John Oakhurst, a gambler. Bret Harte establishes regionalism through description of his characters and also the dialogue that he gives his characters. Another, more serious reason for not giving to famine relief funds is that until there is effective population control, relieving famine merely postpone starvation (Singer, 1972). The final and third counter argument is that Singer question exactly how much we should be giving away. In this counter argument, Singer talks of giving until one reaches marginal utility; or in the case where suffering would have greatly increased or decreased in his self, if he gave more than one can afford to give. One should avoid bad things from happening or sacrificing too much to help those in need. Giving until you reach your marginal utility is only required.
