14th Oct 15 - What’s a Good Start-Up Idea…and How to Come Up with It?City Unrulyversity
You might have an idea for a great product or service, but if it solves a problem nobody has, then it's hard to have a market. This session will focus on the art of problem spotting; how to spot them, how to evaluate them and how to develop your very own startup design brief to tackle them.
City Unrulyversity is Tech City's first and only free pop-up university, with the mission to inspire, empower, and educate the next generation of entrepreneurs. We pop up every Wednesday night during term time from 6.30-8ish PM at Unruly HQ. Our audience is a happy mix of start-ups, budding entrepreneurs, students, and interested free spirits.
Presented at Agile Australia 2016.
My team has spent 5 years figuring out how best to follow Agile methodologies and maximise the opportunities we have through design. This journey has had many ups and downs. Along the way we have tried many new methods, evaluated, twisted and turned to get where we are today. My guess (and hope) is that there will be many more twists and turns in the future.
One thing I have learned is that the ability to communicate the value of what we do and the way we do it is paramount to the continuous improvement in our practices.
In this presentation I will step through 5 diagrams I frequently draw on whiteboards that not merely explain the way we work as designers but help others to understand why we design. These will be our “designer mindset”.
Take away clear visualisations around experience, design thinking, process, expertise, collaboration and the effectiveness of design. Recreate and iterate these visualisations to enhance your own designer’s mindset.

This e-book is an accompaniment to the book "Creative Workshop: 80 Challenges to Sharpen Your Design Skills," more details here: http://www.davidsherwin.com/creative
"Creative Workshop" contains 80 creative challenges that will help any designer reach a breadth of stronger design solutions, in various media, within any set time period. Exercises range from creating a typeface in an hour, to designing a paper robot in an afternoon, to designing web pages and other interactive experiences. Each exercise includes compelling visual solutions from other designers and background stories to help designers increase their capacity to innovate.
Before the book, however, there was a quarter-long class where design students had to complete 80 projects in just 11 weeks. This Teacher's Guide describes the pedagogical methods behind the book, how to create your own Creative Workshop class or workshop series, as well as how to utilize challenges from the book most effectively in a classroom setting. This text is intended for teachers of design and creative thinking, but it may also be helpful for designers and creative managers.
each year for 9 years I have give a 3 to 4 hour presentation for Dr. Kristina Jaskyte's creativity class for students of social work for non-profit organization majors
The “Course Topics” series from Manage Train Learn and Slide Topics is a collection of over 4000 slides that will help you master a wide range of management and personal development skills. The 202 PowerPoints in this series offer you a complete and in-depth study of each topic. This presentation is on "Creative Thinking".
Co-creation brings groups together to jointly produce a mutually valued outcome.
Today’s business world: we meet to talk about what we’re going to do, we go off in our vacuum, we create something, we come back to review, we get feedback, we debate, we revise, and ultimately create something that doesn’t hit the mark from all sides. This is wildly inefficient and produces subpar products.
Pinaki Kathiari, co-founder of Local Wisdom and Stephen Garguillo, Senior Manager of Creative Engagement at Johnson & Johnson, have changed this model in their teams. Co-creation can be used with clients and agencies, companies and customers, between internal departments, basically any number multi disciplined teams looking to produce something.
In their talk 7 Do’s and Don’ts for Co-Creation, Stephen and Pinaki talk about the important aspects of how to bring people together to create fantastic outcomes. From knowing why and when you should co-create, to facilitation, and keeping a bias towards action, you’ll learn what it takes to produce awesome work together than hits the mark from all angles.
Doing Something Good facilitated this second event in Vicsport's 'Forward Thinking' series, addressing the changing business of community sport, and innovative approaches to getting more Victorian's physically active through sport.
Innovation in Action on 19 March was a practical workshop aimed at improving the capability of organisations in the community sport sector to be innovative, and generate game-changing ideas simply and quickly.
The Innovation in Action workshop provided participants with an opportunity to:
> Discover how top innovators approach problem solving
> Learn how you can apply cutting edge and easy to use design principles and methodologies to generate innovative ideas for community sport products, services and programs
> Participate in a practical ‘rapid prototyping’ team challenge to design innovative community sport membership models simply and quickly

Digital Commerce Lecture for Advanced Digital & Social Media Strategy at UCLA...Valters Lauzums
E-commerce in 2024 is characterized by a dynamic blend of opportunities and significant challenges. Supply chain disruptions and inventory shortages are critical issues, leading to increased shipping delays and rising costs, which impact timely delivery and squeeze profit margins. Efficient logistics management is essential, yet it is often hampered by these external factors. Payment processing, while needing to ensure security and user convenience, grapples with preventing fraud and integrating diverse payment methods, adding another layer of complexity. Furthermore, fulfillment operations require a streamlined approach to handle volume spikes and maintain accuracy in order picking, packing, and shipping, all while meeting customers' heightened expectations for faster delivery times.
Amid these operational challenges, customer data has emerged as an important strategy. By focusing on personalization and enhancing customer experience from historical behavior, businesses can deliver improved website and brand experienced, better product recommendations, optimal promotions, and content to meet individual preferences. Better data analytics can also help in effectively creating marketing campaigns, improving customer retention, and driving product development and inventory management.
Innovative formats such as social commerce and live shopping are beginning to impact the digital commerce landscape, offering new ways to engage with customers and drive sales, and may provide opportunity for brands that have been priced out or seen a downturn with post-pandemic shopping behavior. Social commerce integrates shopping experiences directly into social media platforms, tapping into the massive user bases of these networks to increase reach and engagement. Live shopping, on the other hand, combines entertainment and real-time interaction, providing a dynamic platform for showcasing products and encouraging immediate purchases. These innovations not only enhance customer engagement but also provide valuable data for businesses to refine their strategies and deliver superior shopping experiences.
The e-commerce sector is evolving rapidly, and businesses that effectively manage operational challenges and implement innovative strategies are best positioned for long-term success.
