Benefits Of A Good Samaritan Hospital Essay
Since 2008, Medicare has tracked readmissions for various conditions. According to a recent Center
for Medicaid and Medicare Services review, at least 20% of hospitals in Illinois, Maryland,
Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island have higher rates of readmission than the
national average (Rau, 2014).
MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital is a 287 bed, short term acute care hospital located in Baltimore,
Maryland. Founded in 1968 via a donation from a philanthropist, it has approximately 2,000
employees. Good Samaritan has no accreditations but is designated to be a Primary Stroke Center by
The Joint Commission ( Healthgrades, 2015). At first glance, it is somewhat surprising that they
would have a higher than average readmission rate for stroke patients, however, considering the
Stroke Center designation, one must take into consideration that they are seeing a higher than average
number of stroke patients. While the national goal for stroke related deaths is 34.8 out of 100,000
admissions, MedStar currently has 48.1 deaths associated with stroke related admissions. This less
than desirable performance creates both financial and clinical implications.
MedStar strives to always put the patient first. Its mission and vision clearly state this to be a priority,
while one of the values that it subscribes to is open and honest communication ( MedStar, 2015).
While all hospitals usually state some form of this, MedStar provides details on patient

Examples Of Metatheory
There are many metatheoretical traditions that have influenced modern social sciences as we know it
today. This essay critically compares the two different concepts such as objectivity and neutrality in
various educational theories and systems such as: Missionary education, Apartheid education, Post
Apartheid education, Revised National Curriculum Statement (RNCS) and Curriculum Assessment
Policy Statement (CAPS). We discuss the applications of these two seemingly different concepts and
their application in different educational theories such as: Constructivism, behaviorism and social
cognition. Furthermore, we discuss objectivity and neutrality in various educational contexts. I will
attempt to show that education cannot be neutral if the objectives are politically and economically
driven.
Defining metatheory
Metatheory is the study aimed at understanding the nature of social inquiry (Babbie Mouton, 1998).
There are different names for metatheory such as: metascience, philosophy of science and the
epistemology of science (Babbie Mouton, 1998). According to Babbie and Mouton metatheory has a
three world s framework: world one inquires about the nature of society and human conduct, world
two aims to understand social inquiry and then lastly world three the methodologies used in
understanding the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Social sciences views objectivity as: not something entirely distinct from detachment of fairness and
honesty (Fay, Pomper, Vann, 1998). However it is a way in rather improving invaluable and important
inflexible virtues. In social science neutrality can similarly be seen as the idiom sitting on a fence
which is why it is hard or even impossible to achieve neutrality in social science. Neutrality can be
seen as being impartial towards facts. In this essay we will be following the definitions of objectivity
and neutrality as seen in the social

The And The Nazi Occupation Of Kiev During The World War...
Throughout the twentieth century, the city of Kiev was occupied by various governments, notably the
Soviet and the Nazi regimes, during the Second World War. The German army successfully conquered
Kiev on September 21st, 1941, after Soviet forces withdrew. Immediately upon German occupation,
the planning for eliminating the Jewish population from Kiev began, and was shortly after conducted
at the Massacre of Babi Yar, where it has been estimated that any number between 33,771 to 150,000
Jews were murdered. Despite Babi Yar s involvement in the Holocaust, the events which occurred at
Babi Yar were relatively neglected in the studies about the Holocaust. The novel Babi Yar: A
Document in the Form of a Novel (1970) by A. Antoli (Kuznetsov) has acted as one of few resources
which has addressed the massacre of Jews at Babi Yar, as well as the horrific Nazi occupation of Kiev
during the Second World War. Kuznetsov was twelve years old upon the Nazi occupation of Kiev and
recorded his experience, as well as the experiences of others who survived. The novel has brought
light to the oppressive and barbaric nature of the Nazi rule of Kiev which lasted for 778 days.
Furthermore, the uncensored version has disclosed how the people living within Kiev acted during the
period of Nazi occupation. Prior to this release, Soviet rule had not allowed for any release of
information disclosing the massacre of Jews within Kiev during the Second World War. However, due
to the oppressive nature of

Archimedean Comulas Essay
2.2 Archimedean Copulas and Their Application
Archimedean copulas are an important family of copulas described by Genest and MacKay (1986 a, b)
and their applications explained in many fields such as actuarial science, mathematics, statistics,
finance and insurance; for more information, see Frees and Valdez (1998), Klugman and Parsa (1999)

The insurer reserves are defined expected of present value for these payments at the beginning of each
year until the death. Since the death of a person is a random variable, the calculation of the insurer s
reserves is of particular importance. By considering the annual payments of the whole life annuity, we
can obtain the insurer s reserves for different periods of time in survival of both individuals , with
using the Archimedean copulas of the previous sections. From equation (2.6) we have, where (2.7) is

Stereotypes Of Women In The Work Force
During the first half of the 19th century, only few women worked. The majority of paid labour for
women was service work. Census records and newspaper advertisements from this period show
women worked as midwives, gardeners, washerwomen, dressmakers and on occasion, innkeepers
(Byrne, 2015). In addition to the small amount of work available, women also had to attend to
domestic duties at home. Cooking meals and cleaning was a constant and primary responsibility.
Subsequently, cooking was only a small part of women s work. With money so scarce, families had to
be resourceful with all the materials they had. Most women were skilled at spinning wool and knitting,
and they made most of the clothing that the family wore, including socks, mittens, ... Show more

Regardless of time period there are definitive opportunities for future advancement as the third decade

succeed or fail on the level of innovation, talent, and engagement of their employees. They need to

Z. According to a study conducted by the Deloitte Millennial Survey Committee, then interpreted by

Although they [Generation Y Z] may be technologically brilliant and ready to make their mark, they
want to work for organizations that demonstrate ethics, equality, diversity, and social responsibility. To
them, actions speak louder than words and they want to see both cultural and gender equality.
Therefore, having women in prominent roles gives businesses an advantage in tough labour markets

writers that have impacted generations. There have been writers from Shakespeare in England to Sun

influential writers of its own. Emily Dickinson and Mark Twain are just a few of the many examples
of writers that have originated in America. Mark Twain wrote Extracts from Adam s Diary a playful

The short story brought up many normal things that would have been curiosities to the first humans.
Extracts from Adam s Diary brought the modern world a story that the reader could understand in
today s world. Mark Twain wrote the story true to form on how real humans would act when
interacting (Hope). In the story Adam adapted his situation and began to feel a need for Eve even
though he did not want her in the first place. The story shows how sworn couples have to adapt to
each other on their strengths and weaknesses. The story teaches how as humans we also go through
the emotions of first dislike, then acceptance evolving into being pleased with, transformed to love
(Hope). In this short story Mark Twain does an incredible job at incorporating in allusions in this work
of literature to readers who know the bible version and this playful more human version. The short
story teaches how one learns to accept a person if one gives the time to learn to love someone else
even when they have many flaws. Eve is shown as being a bit bossy and inconsiderate towards Adam
but they time they spend together Adam slowly learns to love her. Adam says: [a]fter all these years, I
see that I was mistaken about Eve in the beginning; it is better to live outside the Garden with her than
inside it without her (Twain 10). Adam is quoted saying he could not be

Question Chapter 2: Research Problem 2
When Oprah gave away Pontiac G6 sedans to her TV audience, was the value of the cars taxable? On
Labor Day weekend in 2006, World Furniture Mall in Plano, Illinois, gave away $275,000 of furniture
because the Chicago Bears shut out the Green Bay Packers in the team s football season opener at
Lambeau Field in Green Bay (26 0). Was the free furniture in the form of a discount or rebate taxable,
or should the furniture company have handed the customers a Form 1099 MISC?

s television audience would have been subject to federal taxation and included in their gross income.

Psychological Disorders In The Dark Knight
In the movie The Dark Knight there is a villian named The Joker. The Joker can be described as
having multiple personality disorders and psychological disorders. He would be considered
schizophrenic and disorganized schizophrenic for his psychological disorder, and Antisocial for his
personality disorder. Having a personality or psychological disorder can affect how you cope and do
things in an everyday life. These disorders definitely effect how the joker acts and goes about life. The
Joker can be different in many ways compared to normal people like us. One personality disorder that

Copyright Law in Canada Essay
Canada s copyright law is one of our hardest laws to enforce. The reason the police have so much
trouble enforcing this law, is due to technology. This law is very easy to break, and once broken, it is
very hard to track down violators. So although some form of a copyright law is needed, the one we
have has, too many holes to be effective. There are three main ways in which the copyright law is
broken in everyday life. They is audio/video tape copying, plagiarism, and software piracy.
The first, and most commonly violated aspect of the copyright law, is the copying of audio tapes for
oneself and friends. Thanks to the invention of dual cassette stereos, this has become very easy. You

Very often a student when doing a research paper will quot;accidently quot; forget to footnote his
work. By quot;forgetting quot; to give the author credit, the student has claimed the work as his own.
Another reason students may copy someone else s work is to sound more sophisticated hoping that if
they use someone elses words it will sound better than their own. Generally, this provides an easy way
for a teacher or the police to catch them.
Teachers also plagiarize rather frequently. Very often a teacher will photocopy several pages from a
book, in order to save the students the expense of having to buy the book for themselves. While this is
a noble act by the teacher, in most cases, this is illegal. Unless the author of the book, gave consent for
his/her work to be freely distributed, teachers can t copy it any more than students or anyone else can.
The third category of piracy is Software Pirating. There are several forms which this can take. The
most common form is very similar to audio/video cassettes. It is when someone copies a game or
program from his/her computer to someone elses. As long as the two people have the same type of
computer, (they both have apples or IBM s) this is a very simple process, so long as the programmer
didn t put a bug into the program (a precaution they take against people copying their work).
Another form of Computer Piracy is a quot;cracker quot;. A cracker is someone

William Shakespeare s Sonnet 18
Sonnet 18 may be the most famous lyric poem in English. Among Shakespeare s works, only lines
such as To be or not to be and Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? are better known. On the
surface, this poem is a statement of praise about the beauty of the speaker s love interest, but when
you look closely you can see how the speaker is actually praising himself for his skills. This is also
Shakespeare s first poem in the sonnets that doesn t explicitly encourage having children. The
procreation sequence of the first seventeen sonnets ended with the speaker s realization that the they
might not need children to preserve beauty, but he could also live in my rhyme as he says in Sonnet
17. Sonnet 18 is the first poem in which the speaker first attempts to preserve the beauty for all time,
and is also a perfect example of classic Shakespearean style of writing and usage of metaphors. This
poem uses several different metaphors, personification, multiple themes, and follows a traditional
form to get across the point to the reader that the speaker is a well skilled and masterful poet. Four
strong themes in this poem are change, fate, love, and eternity. At first glance, the poem appears as if
the speaker is praising and complimenting his lover, but through closer examination you can see that
the speakers main focus is showing how good of a writer he is. Images and symbols of time, decay,
and eternity are in this poem because whether or not we think the lover is

SIDS Essay
Educating Parents and Caregivers on the Prevention of SIDS
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the unexplained death of an infant less than one year of age
after having done a complete postmortem examination and investigation of the scene of death. There
are no causes that have been found that make it clear as to why SIDS is so common. The rate of SIDS
decreased dramatically when the Back to Sleep campaign was started to encourage parents and
caregivers that infants were placed on their back while sleeping (Hockenberry Wilson, 2015, p. 473).
The most common ways that these deaths have occurred are the infant s sleeping environments and

42). The cause of SIDS is still unknown but autopsies have been reliable in showing consistent
findings pathologically that reveal whether a child has pulmonary edema or intrathoracic hemorrhages
that could possibly confirm a diagnosis. Autopsies should be done in every infant and the results
should be shared with the parents as soon as they are completed (Hockenberry Wilson, 2016, p. 476).
Important critical assessments to make regarding SIDS is identifying risk factors that could potentially
lead to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and ensuring to educate the caregivers on techniques to
prevent these deaths. Some complications that may arise with SIDS could be a sense of hopelessness
for the family of the infant. The parents may feel guilty and blame themselves for the death of their
child. To appropriately care for this family, important NANDA nursing diagnoses for SIDS would be
the Risk for Complicated Grieving related to Loss of Child secondary to SIDS and the Risk for
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome related to Deficient Knowledge of Prevention Techniques secondary
to Unsafe Sleeping Environment.
Important teachings to assist the family in understanding SIDS is ensuring that they know what the
risk factors are: maternal smoking, maternal alcohol use, co sleeping, prone sleeping, side lying
positions, and soft bedding. Parents must be educated on some protective factors that could help in
decreasing the risk of SIDS

Stereotypes Are A Useful Way To Classify People
Stereotyping is always a useful way to make decisions about people
Stereotypes are a way to classify people who make up society. We organize people in different social
groups. But, do these beliefs correspond to reality?
Firstly, one of the advantages of stereotypes is that they can help us understand the behaviour of other
people, which we considerer distinct to our group. For instance, if you know some hippie and think
that he lives in a free way and looks inelegant, these factors are part of their essence and are what is
expected of them. Although, they do not agree with that part of the hippy community, they must
represent the values of the community or movement to which they belong. In addition, another
positive aspect is if you are a refined and well mannered person, you may feel attracted to other people
with different stereotypes to yours, such as hippies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

drawback, when a first bad impression occurs, we can miss the opportunity to meet very interesting

Medicine In The Elizabethan Era
Herbal Remedies and Poisons in Elizabethan Times
In this day and age, there are millions of pharmaceuticals out there for all kinds of diseases and
conditions, but where did all of this start? The creation of medicines most likely started when people
discovered the healing properties plants contained. Today, civilization has the knowledge and
technology to extract elements from plants to produce more chemically engineered medicines. The
real question is how did medicines develop from mashing up leaves in order to lessen an infuriating
rash to just popping a pill to nurse or illness? Medicines evolved by the scientific method: series of
research and experiments. During the Elizabethan era, research and experimentation attained a
renewed interest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Medicines were mostly produced to cure diseases. Back in the 1600s scurvy and malaria were huge
problems that needed to be dealt with. As mentioned in previous paragraph malaria was treated by the
bark of the Cinchona tree and is still used today. The bark of the Cinchona tree (called quina quina by
the indigenous Peruvians), found in the rain forests along the Amazon River in the Andes of South
America, contained an ingredient called quinine, which is still used in the treatment of malaria, a
disease transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito and one of the oldest plagues of mankind
(Cassell, Dank K., and Cynthia A. Sanoski). This shows that achievements made back then are still
important to this date. Scurvy was a disease caused by vitamin deficiency, but that was not known
back then. Jacques Cartier is a French explorer whose crew got infected with scurvy. Jacques and his
crew came in contact with an Iroquois tribe in the New World, who knew how to cure scurvy. The
women of the tribe would use juniper needles and bark to make a tea and use the leftover tea to wash
the affected person s leg. Juniper needles and bark contain a lot of vitamins the human body needs, so
when the affected person drank the juniper tea they got all the vitamins they lost back in turn curing
scurvy. Poisons also had reasons why they were needed. Hemlock and aconite are deadly poisons

Massive Resistance Policy Summary
This primary source analysis will define the historic and civic perspectives of Virginian citizens that

The Massive Resistance policy was created by Senator Byrd and Governor Almond to prevent the
segregation of white and black public schools. Brown. V. Board of Education provided a federal
mandate to desegregate black and white schools, which would unify them into a single public school
system. In these documents, John G. Bowman (1959) argues for a historical change in the
desegregation of the school systems, which would remain loyal to great leadership of the Founding

Global Warming And Its Effect On Ecosystems By Stimulating...
Abstracts
The uses of microcosm are resourceful in giving insight into the behaviors of larger scale systems.
global warming is increasing at escalating rate and could affect ecosystems. Ecosystems are a very
important part of humanity as they provide us with essential services to survive. It is important to
know the factors that could affect this. The use of microcosm experiments can be used to give
information into how ecological communities will be affected by climate change. In this study
sampled populations of the species Paramecium and Euglena were taken over 5 days at different
temperatures using PCR, Microscopes, Serial dilution and spectrophotometry techniques. The results
gathered form over the 5 days showed that increasing temperature over time has an effect on the
microcosms, negatively and positively. This experiment proved that the increase in temperature
through climate change has an effect on ecosystems by stimulating reproduction, interaction and
competition.
Introduction
Climate change through changes in the environment is rapidly increasing and creating a negative
impact on ecological services provided from biodiversity.
Ecosystems are essential to the sustenance of humanity as they provide us with many useful services
like food, energy, water and recycling. (Benton et al., 2007)
An ecosystem is made up of different types of plant and animal species which interact with each other
and most importantly with their environment as one functional unit. The

The Theme Of Nature In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein was a groundbreaking novel into the horrors that humans can achieve. It
helped defined a genre, and gave a new meaning to the gothic novel line of books. Shelley came up
with the idea of Frankenstein during a bet with her fellow poet friends. Whomever could write the best
scary story won their competition, and this was how Frankenstein was born. Shelley included many
themes in her creation of the story Frankenstein such as Family, Imagination, Ambition, Education,

Mary Shelley imbued all these themes into her story to create a connection from the characters to her

makes him seem as if he is an infant and he has been rejected as an infant by society and made out to
be an evil monster (Britton, Abstract). The creature himself was just born a man, he did not experience
infanthood, he was just created. He was created and immediately hated, and he could not understand
why because he had the mind of an infant. He was innocent until he was treated horribly. This is an
example of human nature. Human nature is hating something that is so different than you, just for
being different. And human nature is shown in all its ugliness in this story, for wherever the monster
goes, there are people to chase him away for being scary. This almost parallels the Rime of the
Ancient Mariner in a sense. In the Ancient Mariner, the Mariner harms nature and nature harms him
right back. The theme is that you must respect nature otherwise you will be killed by the one thing you
defiled. And this is true of Victor and his monster. He defiled nature, and the life of what he created,
and nature came back to kill his family and in the end, it killed Victor

My Papa s Waltz And Daddy Comparison
Theodore Roethke s My Papa s Waltz , Robert Hayden s The Whipping , and Sylvia Plath s Daddy are
all poems written about children getting beaten but have differing narrators and varying times.
Although these poems may be about the same topic, they are presented in different points of view by
the narrators. My Papa s Waltz is in the first person point of view as it s happening, The Whipping is
also presented as it is happening, but is presented third person, however; Daddy is written as a
reflection in the first person. While My Papa s Waltz and Daddy are written in the first person, they
differ in the tense. However, My Papa s Waltz and The Whipping are written in the same tense, but

The boy says that the waltzing was not easy, which could refer to dancing with his drunk dad or that
the father harming the child and that the son is linking it to a dance instead of a beating (Roethke 552).
It is because of this that Roethke s poem could mean that his father and he are dancing or that the boy
is getting hit. It is because of this widely interpretable part of the poem that there are three different
ideas on what the poem actually means. The first one is that the child look to his father with fear and
joy. The other two sides are a like in the fact that they think that the poems intensity. One of them
thinks that the poem has a more joyful mood because their personal experience when their father
became drunk and loved them instead of hurting them (Fong 79 80). On the flip side of the coin,
people think that the poems tone is more fearful because in the beginning they hear that the fathers
been drinking and is now scaring the mother and the son instead of being a happy story (Fong 80).
Bobby Fong thinks that the poem is like a seesaw... hard, dirt, clinging), (80). This shows that he
thinks that the story has both fearful parts and joyful parts. However, in Hayden s The Whipping there
isn t as much room for interpretation because it basically describes clearly an adolescent getting

The purpose of this essay is to examine, the notion of music being a part of a deaf individual s life
may seem contradictory, but there is evidence that music is and has been a part of many deaf people s
lives. Music is and has been a part of the Deaf culture, including, but not limited to, Deaf musicians,
utilising music to teach speech. The primary purpose of this thesis was to explore the relation between
Deaf culture and music and examine the role of music in the deaf culture and to relate the findings to
current practices in music education programs for hearing impaired students historically and presently.
We also look at the introduction of sign language interpreters in live vocal music performances as well
pre recorded shows and music videos and also how it is being adopted in the music industry.
Secondary purposes of the study were to accumulate data of ways in which the music industry has
provided for the Deaf Communities by organising concerts and raves for them.

The Protagonist in Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser
The picture of the protagonist that Theodore Dreiser s novel, Sister Carrie, portrays is only a half
truth. By examining Sister Carrie s character, she is readily deemed as passive, weak, and full of
superficial desires and yet in this profoundly inert nature lies the seed for the greater expression of an
artistic soul. However, this realization is only drawn out by Ames s archetypically scholarly eyes (the
intelligent but withdrawn engineer); bringing forth the powerful and intimate beauty that Carrie
possesses, which without a photograph, the reader would forever remain blind to. Nevertheless, as
Ames draws out the riches of Carrie s humanity, he delineates yet another ideal, the ideal of the artist,
which lies far away from the comfort ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, this attraction simply overrides Carrie s struggling conscience, which would appear only
when the pleasant side was not too apparent, when Drouet was not there, leaving her a victim of the
city s hypnotic influence (p75, 65). Furthermore, Carrie s affection for the superior Hurstwood, who
with his style and easy manners, represents yet another higher stratum and thus misleads her emotions
and smoothly sways her unreasoning mind since there was so much enthusiasm engendered that she
was believing herself deeply in love. She sighed as she thought of her handsome adorer ... they would
be happy (p163). This self delusion is fully exposed when her relationship with Hurstwood is brought
into sudden question. She hangs in quandary, balancing between indecision and helplessness until
finally Hurstwood s passion for her renewing youth and freshness re conquers her (p218). Ultimately,
Carrie s own goals in life remain so vague that she cannot act upon them, even when the fundamental
security and position in her life is brought under threat. This passivity typifies her even as she is stuck
in the gloomy and decaying marriage with Hurstwood for three years, where being of a passive and
receptive nature rather than an active and aggressive nature, Carrie

Nazi Experiments
Injections, infections, and freezing temperatures. That isn t even the tip of the iceberg, the Nazis
conducted many experiments on the jews, and many of the experiments we don t know about because
most the records were burned before any of the allied powers knew what they were doing to the
Jewish race. Millions of Jews were killed in gas chambers, but not all of them were killed in such a
quicker way. Many were killed by experiments that were cruel and made them suffer days, weeks, and
maybe months. The experiments, brought much horror, millions of deaths and some helpful things.
The experiments were completely terrible. The women went through some very horrible things. SS
surgeon Karl Gebhardt picked six women to experiment on and sent them to the hospital block. The
woman s legs were shaved and cleaned. The then went to bed not knowing what they were going to
wake up to in the morning. When one of the girls woke up she found her leg in a cast. She had ...

Dr. Mengele also dropped chemicals into the twins eyes trying to change the color to blue which left

Symbolism In Bram Stoker s Dracula

Dracula, is most likely one of the most iconic monsters of the twentieth century, mostly as a blood

more hidden mysterious series of symbols hidden behind the story of Bram Stoker s Dracula. Bram
Stoker was a Irish immigrant to london who was fascinated by new technology and science but
heavily concerned with the jewish population arriving where he was and across Europe. Stoker in a
way reflects his feelings of the oncoming jewish population through imitating and describing the

Summary Of Sproul Plaza By Krzsztof Pomian
Krzsztof Pomian discusses the relation between usefulness and value that might be seen to contradict
what we typically think barriers, such as the one found of Sproul Plaza represent. He states that, the
more an object is attributed meaning, the less the interest which is taken in its usefulness (Pomian 32).
What Pomian does not address, however, is the idea of implicating an item to be both useful and
valuable. He believes that when an item is used it deteriorates the value of the object. The barriers set
up on Sproul Plaza contradict this notion in the sense that they provided both value and use for the
police officers because they were able channel the crowd in a way deemed by the police to be safe.
Not only did the police officers believe that the barriers were valued but before some students touched
the barricades, they would look around to see if anyone was watching because they believed that there
was value within the object they were about to touch and did not want to get in trouble. Students have
inherently learned that these barricades instill power and value because of previous events where these
barriers were also present. Pomian states, most important of all, talk to the dead as though they were
living (Pomian, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Relationship Between God And God
What I have gathered from each of these medieval writer is that they have strong understanding of
who God truly is. Each writer express that the greatest love has to be toward God initially.
Furthermore, each writer proclaims that the believer has to have some understanding of self. Also,
each writer seems to have some unique encounter with God, to understand who and how God is. It is
my understanding that each writer came to have a relationship with God either through some type of
dialogue or some type of experience. This seems to be vital in establishing a relationship with God.
Also, each writer shared that wisdom and truth were key components in growing to know God and
understanding the Love of God. The various writers have shared that wisdom and truth may have
come through layering your understanding of this love affair, or through prayer, maybe even through a
conversation. However, the end results were wisdom and truth are needed and exercised. All three
medieval writers had a unique relationship with God that allowed them to come to grow in God and to
give other believers the tools that are necessary in understanding this unique and vital relationship
with God. Julian of Norwich, really emphasis the role of the Holy Spirit as being the vital component
in this understanding and applying of God love. One cannot exhibit without such aide as expressed by
Julian. Although, Haring does share in his writing that State does and still does have a negative

  • 2. Benefits Of A Good Samaritan Hospital Essay Since 2008, Medicare has tracked readmissions for various conditions. According to a recent Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services review, at least 20% of hospitals in Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island have higher rates of readmission than the national average (Rau, 2014). MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital is a 287 bed, short term acute care hospital located in Baltimore, Maryland. Founded in 1968 via a donation from a philanthropist, it has approximately 2,000 employees. Good Samaritan has no accreditations but is designated to be a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission ( Healthgrades, 2015). At first glance, it is somewhat surprising that they would have a higher than average readmission rate for stroke patients, however, considering the Stroke Center designation, one must take into consideration that they are seeing a higher than average number of stroke patients. While the national goal for stroke related deaths is 34.8 out of 100,000 admissions, MedStar currently has 48.1 deaths associated with stroke related admissions. This less than desirable performance creates both financial and clinical implications. MedStar strives to always put the patient first. Its mission and vision clearly state this to be a priority, while one of the values that it subscribes to is open and honest communication ( MedStar, 2015). While all hospitals usually state some form of this, MedStar provides details on patient ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Examples Of Metatheory There are many metatheoretical traditions that have influenced modern social sciences as we know it today. This essay critically compares the two different concepts such as objectivity and neutrality in various educational theories and systems such as: Missionary education, Apartheid education, Post Apartheid education, Revised National Curriculum Statement (RNCS) and Curriculum Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS). We discuss the applications of these two seemingly different concepts and their application in different educational theories such as: Constructivism, behaviorism and social cognition. Furthermore, we discuss objectivity and neutrality in various educational contexts. I will attempt to show that education cannot be neutral if the objectives are politically and economically driven. Defining metatheory Metatheory is the study aimed at understanding the nature of social inquiry (Babbie Mouton, 1998). There are different names for metatheory such as: metascience, philosophy of science and the epistemology of science (Babbie Mouton, 1998). According to Babbie and Mouton metatheory has a three world s framework: world one inquires about the nature of society and human conduct, world two aims to understand social inquiry and then lastly world three the methodologies used in understanding the ... However it is a way in rather improving invaluable and important inflexible virtues. In social science neutrality can similarly be seen as the idiom sitting on a fence which is why it is hard or even impossible to achieve neutrality in social science. Neutrality can be seen as being impartial towards facts. In this essay we will be following the definitions of objectivity and neutrality as seen in the social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The And The Nazi Occupation Of Kiev During The World War... Throughout the twentieth century, the city of Kiev was occupied by various governments, notably the Soviet and the Nazi regimes, during the Second World War. The German army successfully conquered Kiev on September 21st, 1941, after Soviet forces withdrew. Immediately upon German occupation, the planning for eliminating the Jewish population from Kiev began, and was shortly after conducted at the Massacre of Babi Yar, where it has been estimated that any number between 33,771 to 150,000 Jews were murdered. Despite Babi Yar s involvement in the Holocaust, the events which occurred at Babi Yar were relatively neglected in the studies about the Holocaust. The novel Babi Yar: A Document in the Form of a Novel (1970) by A. Antoli (Kuznetsov) has acted as one of few resources which has addressed the massacre of Jews at Babi Yar, as well as the horrific Nazi occupation of Kiev during the Second World War. Kuznetsov was twelve years old upon the Nazi occupation of Kiev and recorded his experience, as well as the experiences of others who survived. The novel has brought light to the oppressive and barbaric nature of the Nazi rule of Kiev which lasted for 778 days. Furthermore, the uncensored version has disclosed how the people living within Kiev acted during the period of Nazi occupation. Prior to this release, Soviet rule had not allowed for any release of information disclosing the massacre of Jews within Kiev during the Second World War. However, due to the oppressive nature of ... Census records and newspaper advertisements from this period show women worked as midwives, gardeners, washerwomen, dressmakers and on occasion, innkeepers (Byrne, 2015). In addition to the small amount of work available, women also had to attend to domestic duties at home. Cooking meals and cleaning was a constant and primary responsibility. Extracts from Adam s Diary brought the modern world a story that the reader could understand in today s world. Mark Twain wrote the story true to form on how real humans would act when interacting (Hope). In the story Adam adapted his situation and began to feel a need for Eve even though he did not want her in the first place. The story shows how sworn couples have to adapt to each other on their strengths and weaknesses. The story teaches how as humans we also go through the emotions of first dislike, then acceptance evolving into being pleased with, transformed to love (Hope). In this short story Mark Twain does an incredible job at incorporating in allusions in this work of literature to readers who know the bible version and this playful more human version. Was the free furniture in the form of a discount or rebate taxable, or should the furniture company have handed the customers a Form 1099 MISC? • 13. Copyright Law in Canada Essay Canada s copyright law is one of our hardest laws to enforce. The reason the police have so much trouble enforcing this law, is due to technology. This law is very easy to break, and once broken, it is very hard to track down violators. So although some form of a copyright law is needed, the one we have has, too many holes to be effective. There are three main ways in which the copyright law is broken in everyday life. They is audio/video tape copying, plagiarism, and software piracy. The first, and most commonly violated aspect of the copyright law, is the copying of audio tapes for oneself and friends. Thanks to the invention of dual cassette stereos, this has become very easy. Very often a student when doing a research paper will quot;accidently quot; forget to footnote his work. By quot;forgetting quot; to give the author credit, the student has claimed the work as his own. Another reason students may copy someone else s work is to sound more sophisticated hoping that if they use someone elses words it will sound better than their own. Generally, this provides an easy way for a teacher or the police to catch them. Teachers also plagiarize rather frequently. Very often a teacher will photocopy several pages from a book, in order to save the students the expense of having to buy the book for themselves. While this is a noble act by the teacher, in most cases, this is illegal. Unless the author of the book, gave consent for his/her work to be freely distributed, teachers can t copy it any more than students or anyone else can. The third category of piracy is Software Pirating. There are several forms which this can take. The most common form is very similar to audio/video cassettes. It is when someone copies a game or program from his/her computer to someone elses. As long as the two people have the same type of computer, (they both have apples or IBM s) this is a very simple process, so long as the programmer didn t put a bug into the program (a precaution they take against people copying their work). • 14. William Shakespeare s Sonnet 18 Sonnet 18 may be the most famous lyric poem in English. Among Shakespeare s works, only lines such as To be or not to be and Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? are better known. On the surface, this poem is a statement of praise about the beauty of the speaker s love interest, but when you look closely you can see how the speaker is actually praising himself for his skills. This is also Shakespeare s first poem in the sonnets that doesn t explicitly encourage having children. The procreation sequence of the first seventeen sonnets ended with the speaker s realization that the they might not need children to preserve beauty, but he could also live in my rhyme as he says in Sonnet 17. Sonnet 18 is the first poem in which the speaker first attempts to preserve the beauty for all time, and is also a perfect example of classic Shakespearean style of writing and usage of metaphors. This poem uses several different metaphors, personification, multiple themes, and follows a traditional form to get across the point to the reader that the speaker is a well skilled and masterful poet. Four strong themes in this poem are change, fate, love, and eternity. At first glance, the poem appears as if the speaker is praising and complimenting his lover, but through closer examination you can see that the speakers main focus is showing how good of a writer he is. Images and symbols of time, decay, and eternity are in this poem because whether or not we think the lover is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

SIDS Essay Educating Parents and Caregivers on the Prevention of SIDS Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the unexplained death of an infant less than one year of age after having done a complete postmortem examination and investigation of the scene of death. There are no causes that have been found that make it clear as to why SIDS is so common. The rate of SIDS decreased dramatically when the Back to Sleep campaign was started to encourage parents and caregivers that infants were placed on their back while sleeping (Hockenberry Wilson, 2015, p. 473). The most common ways that these deaths have occurred are the infant s sleeping environments and their positioning. Research shows that infants that sleep in the prone position are most at risk ... The cause of SIDS is still unknown but autopsies have been reliable in showing consistent findings pathologically that reveal whether a child has pulmonary edema or intrathoracic hemorrhages that could possibly confirm a diagnosis. Autopsies should be done in every infant and the results should be shared with the parents as soon as they are completed (Hockenberry Wilson, 2016, p. 476). Important critical assessments to make regarding SIDS is identifying risk factors that could potentially lead to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and ensuring to educate the caregivers on techniques to prevent these deaths. Some complications that may arise with SIDS could be a sense of hopelessness for the family of the infant. The parents may feel guilty and blame themselves for the death of their child. To appropriately care for this family, important NANDA nursing diagnoses for SIDS would be the Risk for Complicated Grieving related to Loss of Child secondary to SIDS and the Risk for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome related to Deficient Knowledge of Prevention Techniques secondary to Unsafe Sleeping Environment. We organize people in different social groups. But, do these beliefs correspond to reality? Firstly, one of the advantages of stereotypes is that they can help us understand the behaviour of other people, which we considerer distinct to our group. For instance, if you know some hippie and think that he lives in a free way and looks inelegant, these factors are part of their essence and are what is expected of them. Although, they do not agree with that part of the hippy community, they must represent the values of the community or movement to which they belong. Medicine In The Elizabethan Era Herbal Remedies and Poisons in Elizabethan Times In this day and age, there are millions of pharmaceuticals out there for all kinds of diseases and conditions, but where did all of this start? The creation of medicines most likely started when people discovered the healing properties plants contained. Today, civilization has the knowledge and technology to extract elements from plants to produce more chemically engineered medicines. The real question is how did medicines develop from mashing up leaves in order to lessen an infuriating rash to just popping a pill to nurse or illness? As mentioned in previous paragraph malaria was treated by the bark of the Cinchona tree and is still used today. The bark of the Cinchona tree (called quina quina by the indigenous Peruvians), found in the rain forests along the Amazon River in the Andes of South America, contained an ingredient called quinine, which is still used in the treatment of malaria, a disease transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito and one of the oldest plagues of mankind (Cassell, Dank K., and Cynthia A. The irony behind his love of nature is clear because the monster himself is a violation of nature. Victor reversed nature when he brought back something from the dead. The creature may be living, breathing, and sentient but he is an abomination of nature. Shelley used her grief of losing her baby, to create the monster in a way that makes him seem as if he is an infant and he has been rejected as an infant by society and made out to be an evil monster (Britton, Abstract). The creature himself was just born a man, he did not experience infanthood, he was just created. He was created and immediately hated, and he could not understand why because he had the mind of an infant. He was innocent until he was treated horribly. This is an example of human nature. Human nature is hating something that is so different than you, just for being different. And human nature is shown in all its ugliness in this story, for wherever the monster goes, there are people to chase him away for being scary. This almost parallels the Rime of the Ancient Mariner in a sense. In the Ancient Mariner, the Mariner harms nature and nature harms him right back. The theme is that you must respect nature otherwise you will be killed by the one thing you defiled. And this is true of Victor and his monster.
