Medicines Co Marketing
The Medicines Company Case Write Up: Terence Cho, Felipe Duarte, Aleks Loiko, Robert Shaw,
and James Wang
Section 4, Group 10
Medicines Company s drug, Angiomax, outperforms Heparin, but incurs significantly higher costs
to produce, making the drug difficult to attractively price. This difficulty in pricing stems from a
poor positioning strategy for Angiomax which does not maximize the perceived value (PV) that the
drug provides to its key customer segments. Therefore, Medicines Co., must develop a positioning
strategy that maximizes the perceived value of Angiomax. Medicines Co. must first determine the
critical characteristics its key customer segments (doctors, hospital administrators, and pharmacists)
value in an anticoagulant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
to price Angiomax between $139 and $391. We recommend a halfway price of $265. This
incentivizes doctors and, indirectly, hospital administrators to purchase the drug since this price is
lower than the PV created by this positioning strategy.
Implementing this solution requires additional considerations. First, Medicines Co. needs to
thoroughly train its representatives on the cost savings and risks of complication statistics that
show the significant effectiveness of Angiomax over Heparin for high risk patients. This is critical
for their interactions with doctors. Second, Medicines Co needs to allocate additional marketing
budgeting to demonstrate that Angiomax is a more effective treatment for high risk patients and
not simply an alternative to Heparin. Finally, since Angiomax is close to being approved for heart
attacks, the marketing team should perform another analysis of the marketing framework and
budget more marketing to highlight the effectiveness of Angiomax in treating heart attacks over
Heparin.

Enlightenment Of Jainism Research Paper
Students of Jainism, believe that their soul will always be reincarnated after life. However, your
reincarnation is dependent on your past lives. Furthermore, if your past life was harmonious with
the beliefs and righteousness, you will be reincarnated into a better life; consequently, if you lead a
negative life you will fall back in your reincarnation. Your soul is capable of achieving a certain
amount of good karmathat will lead you to enlightenment and possibly even stop you from being
reincarnated again. This also works with negative karma; if throughout life you are rude and only
care for yourself you may end up under the world.
The path to enlightenment is a very difficult one, one s positive or negative karma is not a complete

An example of someone who accomplished what Jains are all hoping to accomplish was
Mahavira. It was foretold that Marhavira was born into a wealthy family; however let go of that
path. Letting go of his fortune, Marhavira focused on self discipline and deep meditation. He was
ridiculed by the other villagers, but did not care. Soon, he would pull out all of his hair and leave
it all behind. Also, it was said that the only thing he owned was a loincloth that he would lose.
Marhavira left the city to meditate for many years with no possessions, he let go of everything he
once owned: clothes, money, possessions, even his own hair. Mahavira no longer cared for the
materials in his life, and left the city and was able to reach enlightenment through mediation and
relinquishment.
Although the path of Jainism is a difficult one, those who practice Jainism have the hope of
reaching this supreme enlightenment like Mahavira. They hope that one day, they will have
enough positive karma to allow them to surpass the ability to be reincarnated. Many practice
jainism through extreme situations. Some will only take a few steps a day due to the fact that they
may accidentally step or harm an

Theme Of Havisham In Great Expectations
In such a society is placed our character under study Estella Havisham. As we can see, she is a
total opposite of the ideal Victorian woman. This novel depicts Estella s struggling against the rigid
social structures divided by class and gender. She appears in the novel as an open challenge, danger
and threat to the patriarchal structure of the Victorian society. In Great ExpectationsCharles Dickens
exhibits an altogether different perspective of Victorian women. Rising above class lines,
Dickens gives capable representations of ascertaining and manipulative women, with no
indication of the delicate quality and limit for sensitivity that describes the perfect Victorian
woman. The Victorian ideals for a woman were so staunch that they were retaliated in the shape
of characters like Estella who become tools of revenge upon men who are a part of this patriarchal
system. As we have already discussed, Miss Havisham played a big role in the formation of Estella.
Miss Havisham was a victim of the society of men and as she was exploited by a man, feelings of
revenge were aroused in Miss Havisham. It can also be put this way that Miss Havisham is the
representative of all the Victorian women who were... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We cannot say that the Femme Fatale emerged due to one reason or the other. To be precise, the
roots of, the concept of Femme Fatale lies in Narcissism and Gothicism whereas Victorianism
proved to be the cause of its revival in the Nineteenth Century. We have tried to study the character
of Estella Havisham against the backdrop of Victorian era. Moreover, Narcissism remains to be the
psychoanalytical cause behind the emergence of Femme Fatale whereas Gothicism is the historical
fiction in which the Femme Fatale saw its inception. All are correlated to each other in one way or

Then communication module which was until in standby reception mode will transmit this
information by the microcontroller to the other device present in that area. On receiving the data
by the second circuit, which is on standby reception mode, it will process the signal information
and display the information on the LCD display and if necessary even sound a buzzer.
Similarly, when the user gives the signal for overtaking, the microcontroller will give a signal to
cc2500 stating the information source and data. This will then be relayed to the module in the
proceeding vehicle. As in above, the forward vehicle will get this information and display the
number of the preceding vehicle which sent the data and alert the vehicle that the vehicle wants to
overtake it.
* Component Details : The list of components used in this project is given as follows: 1) Micro
controller 2) Communication module3) LCD display4) Switches5) 7805 regulator6) Resistors and
capacitors.
Of all the components listed above, microcontroller card or IC is the heart of the circuit and its cost
is high as well. The costliest part of this circuit is the communication module on which this
particular project is to be implemented.

Abraham Flexner s Medical Schools
In the beginning of 1909, Abraham Flexner was sent on a yearlong mission sponsored by
Andrew Carnegie to evaluate the teaching methods and facilities of America s one hundred and
forty eight medical schools. One of the schools he had evaluated was the medical school of the
city of Des Moines, Iowa. The dean of the school had rushed through their meeting, and Flexner
was not allowed in any of the classrooms. There were also no faculty members available for an
interview and no students. After the meeting Flexner asked the dean if he could drop him off at
depot so he could catch the next train to Iowa City. After he had been dropped off and the dean
had left, he hired a horse and carriage to take him back to the school. When he got there, he slipped

The Symbolism of Ophelia’s Character Essay

The Symbolism of Ophelia s Character The name Ophelia has been most commonly associated
with William Shakespeare s play, Hamlet, where she is referred to as the title character s mad
lover. She is believed to have killed herself out of madness by drowning herself in a river.
Interpretations about Ophelia s character have ranged from being a woman who lost her sanity
upon her father, Polonius death to being the object of hatred by Hamlet. However, despite her
supporting character in the play, her personality has roused numerous criticisms and interpretations
from philosophers and critics. This is probably due to the fact that her role in the play is more of a
descriptive character rather than a speaking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The costs of such religions refers to the madness and ultimately the death of Ophelia. It can be
presumed through Chapman s statement that the Catholic religion puts more pressure down on
Ophelia as she tries to overcome her marriage problems and her sexual desires. Ironically though,
instead of feeling ashamed, Ophelia resorts to the old lauds to assure herself of peace and
solace. Therefore, it is also safe to conclude that it is her religion or piety which takes away her
fear. This is evident in the fact that she drowns just after she chanted such old lauds . Erin
Campbell provides a more psychological and sociological approach in the character analysis of
Ophelia. She argues that Ophelia suffers from hysteria, a malady often ascribed to upper class
women who bide their time in their fathers homes while awaiting fulfillment of their culturally
mandated roles as wives and mothers (Campbell). Campbell proves her point by comparing
Ophelia s character to that of Quentin Compson who also drowned herself as a result of unrequited
love, patriarchal restrictions and losses. Truthfully, it is the social environment of Ophelia which
caused her madness. Feeling imprisoned and manipulated by the people around her, she felt that

Women Years Ago Vs. Women Today
Women one hundred years ago VS women today Women one hundred years ago were drastically
different than women today in many aspects of their lives. Soon after the turn of the 20th
century, a surge in women s independence surfaced. This was largely due to the fact that
women were urged by Rosie the Riveter and other propaganda to replace men in factory jobs to
support the war effort and provide income for their families. Women s lifestyles changed from
then on, including their hairstyles, clothing, and overall personalities. The culture surrounding
women in the early 1900 s, especially in terms of the way that they dressed, was drastically
different than that surrounding women in today s society. The typical everyday clothes that
women would wear in the 1900 s were usually long dresses or clothes that covered most of their
bodies. Between the years 1900 1909 there were two key trends, the La Belle Epoque and the
Gibson Girl. They were very much alike, they both consisted of a corsetto make the waist skinnier
and the bosom and backside larger, but it remained modest to the standards of that period. Both
of these styles were very high class and were custom for the wealthier people of the day, this is
due to the dresses being made out of luxury fabrics and rhinestones. However, from 1910 1919, the
styles began to change when women became tired of wearing the puffy dresses and tight corsets.
They wanted something more comfortable, so they came out with three styles called

Persuasive Outline-Organ Donation
PERSUASIVE SPEECH OUTLINE ORGAN DONATION

Thesis Statement: Becoming an organ donor after death is not only an important decision for
yourself, but it is also an important decision for the life that you may have the power to save.
Purpose: To persuade my audience to consider becoming organ donors after death Introduction: 1.
Organ donation is a selfless way to give back to others, and to be able to make a huge difference
by giving another person a second chance at life. 2. The number of patients waiting for organs far
exceeds the number of people who have registered to become organ donors. 3. Many stigmas

Also, how long a patient has been waiting for an organ is a big factor when choosing who will
get which organ * Main Point 2 Arguments against organ donation and refutations 1. People of
all ages and backgrounds can be organ donors, and if you are under 18, you must get permission
from your parent before registering as an organ donor. 2. There are many myths about becoming
an organ donor, but here are just a few: 1. If I agree to donate my organs, the hospital won t work
as hard to save my life: When you go to hospitals for treatment, doctors focus on saving your life,
not someone else s, and the doctor in charge of your care has nothing to do with transplantation.
2. Organ donation is against my religion: Organ donation is consistent with the beliefs of most
religions, including Catholicism, Protestantism, Islam, and most branches of Judaism 3. An
open casket funeral isn t an option for organ donors: The donor s body is fully clothed, so no
one can see the markings or scars of surgery for organ donation. For bone donors, a rod is
inserted where the bone was removed, and for skin donors, the skin donation is taken from the
person s back, and since the deceased is clothed and on their back in the casket, the scar is not
visible. 4. I m too old to donate: There is no defined cut off age for donating organs, and there
have been many successful organ donations from donors in their 70 s and 80 s. The decision to use
the organs

Homecoming Week Essay
Homecoming
Students strut through the hall looking as if they are from another planet. A sea of bright blue flood
the Wilke. Ear piercing cheers rattle the bleachers. Homecoming week is among the most
memorable times of high school. Students are able step out of their comfort zone; whether that is
by dressing in flamboyant costumes, or meeting new people during Edgewood in the Community.
No matter which event is your favorite, homecoming week is an enjoyable and memorable time for
all. The week starts off with its annual homecoming week mass. As students and faculty gather,
the gym feels as if it is bursting at the seams with excitement to finally start the festivities.
Seniors involved in powderpuff were so excited to begin the week, that they arrived at school
before the sun rose. Shoes were soaked with dew, and shirts were dripping with sweat as the battle
for the championship continued. Braids, bows, and bruises can best describe the competitive flag
football league. As the sun slowly filled the sky with its warm rays, students filtered into school
wearing their best rodeo attire. Cowboy boots clunked down the stairs, country music blasted
outside of classrooms, and plaid shirts were sported by almost everyone. During lunch mods,
students were entertained with sign painting. An overwhelming number of people gathered around
a table with art supplies, almost as if they were thirsty animals at a watering hole. Orange, green,
purple, and blue paint cascaded over the

Marcel Mauss s Indian Gift
Gift giving, particularly during the holidays, is regular facet of our daily lives. Whether or not all
gifts carry the obligation of reciprocity is characterized by the gift s cultural context. The Gift: The
Form and the Reason for Exchange in Archaic Societies, (1925) Marcel Mauss ethnographic book,
presents the necessity of reciprocation through analysing the giftgivingpractices of the Maori and
the Kwakiutl. Jonathan Parry revisits Mauss theory in his essay, The Gift, the Indian Gift and the
Indian Gift , (1986) addressing its connection as well as contradiction to the Hindu law of gift
giving. Ultimately, Mauss and Parry propose differing perspectives on the obligation to reciprocate
when given a gift. Their opposing conclusions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The obligation to reciprocate is based on the belief that the recipient receives and possesses
something that belongs to the donor (Mauss 1925: 17). In reciprocating a gift, Mauss explains
that the receiver balances and restores the hau of the first gift to its origin (Mauss 1925: 15 17).
Moreover, the potlatch, the North American Indian practice of exchanging gifts competitively, is
characterized by themes of rivalry and destruction, requiring one to reciprocate or risk losing
authority (Mauss 1925: 11 12). In Northeast Siberia and among the Eskimos of West Alaska, the
exchange of gifts is imbued with additional spiritual significance (Mauss 1925: 18 19). In
destroying by sacrifice, as in the potlach, the people are fulfilling their obligations to the gods, to
whom they owe their use of the land (Mauss 1925: 20 21). Marcel Mauss asserts this exchange of
gifts between the humans and the gods is a necessary element of buying peace between them
(Mauss 1925: 21). Mauss argues that reciprocation is a mandatory element of gift giving because
of the social contract that is formed by the first gift, which contains in it the donor s spirit
(Mauss 1925: 14 21). We can see Mauss theory at work today in western society when we
obligated to bring back gifts from a holiday for a friend who has already done the same for us.
This pressure is the result of the need to restore the balance in the social contract that Mauss

ISA CONTROLLED ASSESSMENT Thermistors SECTION 2 ( Part 1 )

1. Yes the results support my hypothesis, which was, as the temperature increases the resistances
decreases. For example the resistance at 20OC was ______ and at 50OC it was ______ which was
much lower.
Also the graph shows a negative correlation with a curve of best fit. This shows the relationship is
not Ohmic as it is not a straight line.
2. EITHER;
Yes I had an anomalous result, it was at a temperature of __OC. It was higher/lower (select the
correct one) than it should have been. If the resistance at this temperature had been on my line of
best fit the value should have been _____ Ohms(read this off your graph).
No I did not have any anomalous results. I know ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

6. The smallest interval was 10OC, i.e. the difference between 20OC and 30OC. Yes this was a
suitable interval because by moving from 20OC to 30OC there was a difference in the resistance of
_____ Ohms. It was also possible to see a pattern in the results using intervals of 10OC. However to
create a more accurate line of best fit I could have used intervals of 5OC. If I had the resistance
value of 15OC would have been ______ Ohms (read this off your graph).
CIRCLE the anomalous results in BOTH the table of results and graph if you have any. Make sure
you say;
a. Whether each result is a higher or lower value than it should be.
b. What could have caused it, the best answers for this are;
i. If it was too high, the thermistor was not given time to warm to the temperature of the water bath
and therefore was taking a reading at a lower temperature. ii. If it was too low the temperature must
have been higher than thought. The way this could have happened is if the thermistor was held
close to the heating element in the water bath and been in a hot spot.
7. The results could be useful because in the context a company is always making a product which
will turn something on (a thermostat in a house central heating system, fire alarm in a room which
has got hot) or off (a kettle when the water is at 100OC). The manufacture needs to know the
resistance at the temperatures which are important for these functions, so that they can

Nuke Town Short Story
Nuke Town 1952. A town was left in complete destruction with mourning, hardship, and pain.
One family struggles to realize they should not have taken advantage of what they had, before
they lost it. The mother and father, fighting about money, come to the conclusion that a nuclear
bomb may end their bickering and lead to a new understanding of survival. The brother and
sister, annoyed at their siblings, notice a complete change in their bond that provides a feeling
of love and comfort. The struggling family unites as one and tries to fight for their lives as the
nuclear gas is fighting them. A simple life in this simple town was easy. Marylyn and Bobby, the
children s parents, had spent the warm, summer day inside. They were listening to The Mills
Brothers on the brown radio with the perfect sound and crispy crackles of the station. They were
talking about the many bills they had to pay that month as their voices slowly increased in
volume. The kids, Donna and Little Jimmy, were outside annoying and nagging one another, until
they heard their parent s deep voices from the other side. As the kids stopped talking so did the
parents. Silence arose between their paths and a lack of serenity was near. The earth underneath
them had moved and the family heard a noise. The tiny town had become dark and the streets filled
with confused neighbors. Around them, children were crying, people were screaming, lives were
running. You could hear the clicking and dialing of the old

The Development Of The Horror Genre Throughout The Years
Makhi Hughes
Section 5
15 November, 2016
Final Semester Paper
The Development of the Horror Genre Throughout the Years Both horror and science fiction
explore the boundaries of what is means to be human (Belton, 272). This is done by
emphasizing the dilemmas of the figures who straddle the border of human and non human
(Belton, 273). Horror and Sci fi contain narratives that take on a form of a search for knowledge
that will enable the human race to overcome any obstacle that involves a supernatural force
(Belton, 273); the story lines require a search or journey to resolve the issue. Horror and Sci fi
often overlap when there is a monster featured in a sci fi film; or when a horror film is set in the
future (Belton, 271). The two differ in purpose, horror, a sub genre for sci fi, was created to
generate fear through a figure of a monster or supernatural being. While Sci fi has a chief purpose
of focusing on science and reasoning (Belton, 272). The development of both genres is created to a
number of works done throughout the years. The improvement of special effects, influences from
the original masters of suspense, camera angles, and heightened elements of the horror film genre
has allowed it to maintain its popular demand amongst audiences for decades.
Although Native Americans have passed legends about werewolves, evil spirits, and monsters from
tribe to tribe since before the 14th century, it was not until this time that spiritual literature emerged

The San Francisco Earthquake By Jerome Clark
Rajdeep Singh
Men lost their reason at these awful moments ( The San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 4). This was
said by Jerome Clark, a survivor of San Francisco s deadliest earthquake in history. In this single
sentence, he described the entire disaster through his own eyes ( The San Francisco Earthquake,
1906 4). The Great San Francisco Earthquake may be studied by examining the earthquake, the fire,
and the aftermath of the disaster.
The night before the earthquake was almost like any other night in the bristling city of San
Francisco. The world famous opera singer, Enrico Caruso, was performing at the city s Grand
Opera House. The music and singing filled the building with harmonious notes. Caruso s voice
was like thunder, and it seemed to shake the Opera House. Little did the spectators know that the
earthquake to come in a matter of hours would not only shake, but destroy San Francisco s Opera
House (Montagne 1). On April 18, 1906 at 5:12 AM, the citizens of San Francisco were awakened
by intense shaking. The earthquake lasted from forty to sixty seconds, with a small fore shock that
arrived 20 seconds earlier. It is difficult for scientists to estimate the intensity of this earthquake
because of the early and inaccurate equipment from the turn of the century. With today s modern
equipment, seismologists have estimated the earthquake to be a 7.7 to 8.3 on the Richter scale.
This single quake ruptured 290 miles along California s San Andreas fault line

Brown V Board Of Education
Landmark Supreme Court Cases пЃ¬Brown v Board of Education (1954) пѓ The Background: In
the 1950 s, schools were separated by race. Linda Brown and her sister had to walk down a
dangerous railroad switchyard to get to the bus stop to their all black elementary school. There was
an all white school closer to the Brown s house, and the Brown family believed that segregated
schools violated the Constitution. пѓ The Constitutional Issue: This issue violated the Equal
Protection Clause of the Fourteenth amendment because segregated schools for people of race are
unconstitutional and unequal. пѓ The Outcome: The Supreme Court states that segregated schools
could never be equal to each other. The Court decided that laws requiring separate schools
violated the Fourteenth Amendment. This decision supports that all people are equal. As a
student, I am affected because people of different race are welcome to go to school where I go to
school. пЃ¬Mapp v Ohio (1961) пѓ The Background: The police were suspicious of Dollree Mapp
hiding a person suspected in a bombing. They went to her house and demanded entrance, but Mapp
would not let them in because they did not have a warrant. The police broke into her house and
found evidence of crime. At the trial, the police could not show their warrant at the U.S. Supreme
Court. пѓ The Constitutional Issue: This violated the Fourth Amendment, because the Fourth
Amendment protects the people from unreasonable search and seizure by the government. пѓ The

Long Term Care Sociology
In long term care facilities, or nursing homes as they are often referred to are facilities in which
residents live, whom are usually of the older population and are cared for by nurses and nursing
assistants. The ratio of residents to nursing assistants can vary by state and shift, for example in
Ohio there may not be more than fifteen residents per nursing assistant in a shift in order for
residents to receive the optimum amount of care possible. Nursing homes can not only include
parts in which they provide skilled care by Nurses and Nursing Assistants, but also assisted living
for those who just need help from time to time or assistance managing their medication. Residents

Activities of Daily Living can include just that, such as cooking/eating, bathing, personal care,
toileting and help with medications. This around the clock care can be quite expensive for
anyone, especially those who have already retired and were living on a fixed income, including
retirement and social security. In the facility that I observed to live on the skilled care side and
receive care twenty four hours a day seven days a week in a semi private room (double
occupancy room), the cost was nearly $11,000 a month for each resident. The average cost
across the country is $248 per day for a private room and $222 daily for a semi private room
(Costs Of Care), which for a private room can add up to over $90,000 a year. While that number
is quite high assisted living can be much cheaper, at an average of $3,300 a month for the base
fee , however each additional service that they require help from staff to complete is an additional
fee. In the facility observed there was a fee for every action that staff completed or assisted with,
including assistance with medication, trash, cleaning, and applying treatments such as a breathing
machine. Though the cost may seem high many who do not have children or other family
members to help provide care for themselves or have a condition that cannot be managed at home
(due to physical or financial restraints) have no choice but to enter a long term care facility to
receive help completing tasks needed for simple

The Clarinet Essay
The clarinet s versatility makes it an ideal instrument for several genres of music. The most popular
genres use the clarinet because of its flexibility, virtuosity and ability to play in the extremes of the
instrument s range. It is a core member of the orchestra and blends well with woodwind, brass and
string instruments.
Jazz
Clarinets appear regularly in jazz ensembles. The laid back nature of the instrument allows the
clarinet to play with ease and nuance. These characteristics make it suitable for playing extended
solos and complex passages as the jazz ensemble works through modulations resulting in key
changes.
A famous type of jazz music, called Dixieland jazz, features the clarinet prominently. Dixieland jazz

Mozart used the clarinet extensively in several of his orchestral works.
Popular
Popular music uses the clarinet for background music and solos. The Beatles used the clarinet
extensively in songs. Two famous examples include When I m Sixty Four and Here Comes the
Sun. The clarinet s smooth tone and texture lends itself well to rock and popular music.
Another famous group by the name of Muse wrote a song for bass clarinet solo titled I belong to
you. Small popular bands find that the clarinet is a suitable addition to the standard orchestration of
guitar, voice and percussion.
Klezmer
Klezmer music s roots go back to the immigrants to the United States in 1880. The genre was
initiated in Eastern Europe but the commonly known music that goes by the name of Klezmer
music wasn t initiated until musicians emigrated to the United States. Klezmer music is ideal for
the clarinet and features the clarinet in solo passages along with a keyboard instrument known as
the dulcimer, violin, viola, bass, small drum and sometimes included flute and trumpet.

Ferrari Engines, Bicycle Brake
Written Analysis #3 The article I decided to read for the third analysis was Ferrari Engines,
Bicycle Brakes. This article was written by Edward Hallowell who is a psychiatrist that has
attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and dyslexia. Both of these disorders individually come
with a lot of different struggles. Throughout the article, Hallowell discussed his struggle as a
student and what/ who helped him get through school. One of the first things Hallowell
mentions was his first grade teacher, Mrs. Eldredge. She seemed to be his support system when
it came to reading aloud during class. From other research, I know that this can be very difficult
for students with dyslexia since they read slower, letters can get switched around, and whole
words can look switched around. Mrs. Eldredge stood by his side while he read, so that no one
would laugh at his stuttering or stammering (Hallowell, 2012). I believe this was a nice move by
her because she recognized his struggles, and did everything she could to make him feel
comfortable reading aloud in class. He ends up crediting many of his gifted teachers for him
becoming a good student and getting through college to get his degree as a psychiatrist (Hallowell,
2012). The next part of the article, Hallowell gives suggestions to teachers on how to... Show more

Accountability comes when you realize you are responsible for something or someone, that can
impact somebody life or goals negatively or positively. Bolman, L. G. Deal, T. E. (2013),
mentioned that group accountability is important for organizations success. I learned
accountability from the attachment I developed with people who I work with and from my
managers. My manager holds me accountable for my responsibilities and contribution towards
organization goals by clearly explaining what is expected out of me and my team, my job
responsibilities, my contribution, how it contributes to organization success and Why my role is
important? I replicate the same and hold myself and my team accountable for high level of
performance needed, for any misses, or for any tough decisions needed for the benefit of the
organization. When you realize that you made a decision that backfired, you easily can blame it
on somebody else but then how will that impact others, what will be your credibility? Such things
made me more positive towards taking responsibility of action and that had a very positive impact
on me and my team. My team when saw me doing this, was willing to take accountability for their
actions and responsibilities rather than shrugging it on each other. That really helped in forming a
strong team that is firmly bonded by trust. The components of a successful evidence based

Nursing Simulation Lab Report
Using simulation technology for healthcare education is not solely about interaction with the
simulation mannequins themselves, but being put into an environment and situation that resembles
what it would be like if the student were in an actual clinical setting. These types of environments
are called simulationlabs. Upon viewing a simulation lab, the physical set up closely resembles that
of a hospital setting, yet there will be simulation mannequins instead of actual patients and a control

Therefore, healthcare students need to be prepared to handle a variety of different situation
concerning these issues. Fortunately, during the process of simulation based education, a
healthcare student would be sufficiently trained in each of these categories. For political
responsibility, an instructor could initiate a scenario where a homeless person, who is also
jobless, comes in with a heroin overdose. While debriefing the student on the simulation, an
instructor might have him or her explain how a patient being homeless and jobless causes
political issues by not being able to pay for his or her own care. The student might further explain
how this is also a social issue because it impacts society when a person cannot pay for his or her
own medical care as the burden then falls on taxpayers. A way to bring the issue of environmental
responsibility into simulation learning is having the students practice how to dispose of medication

The Physiological Comprehension Of Immune Responses
Introduction: In today s society, molecular understanding of functions, like interleukin 2, has
contributed to the physiological comprehension of immune responses in life forms. Interleukin 2 is
a crucial factor in the fight against HIV/AIDS and other immunosuppressant diseases. It binds itself
to T cellreceptors which induce naive T cell proliferation and differentiation. This contributes to
a plethora of different cells such as cytotoxic T cells, natural kill cells, and LAK cells, which
protect life forms against infections and/or viruses. In 1993, an immunological analysis was
performed by Sadlack and his colleagues. Knockout mice were used, meaning that their IL 2
gene was removed. This resulted in an increased amount of T and B cell counts relative to the
wild type mice. These researchers thus suggested that it is an inflammatory regulator. Overall
when IL 2 is not present, unregulated proliferation of T cells increase as mice reach their terminal
stage of illness. Now, interleukin 2 is used in HIV therapies, which helps increase and regulate T
cell reactions in immune compromised patients. Data has been shown that IL 2 increases
proliferation and survival of CD4+ T cells in these patients.

The Melting Pot Play Summary
The Melting Pot by Israel Zangwill is a four act play that speaks about immigration, assimilation,
fusion, pluralism, prejudice, and discrimination. A main character of the play is David Quixano
who immigrated to the non Jewish boroughs of New York. However, David is Jewish and
escaped from Russia. The other main character of the play is Vera Revenda. Vera is a Christian
who also came from Russia. When David and Vera speak out about their love for one another,
their families both disapprove because of who one another are. Similar to Romeo and Juliet,
Israel Zangwill produced a play but with a happy alternative ending. The feud between these two
families is due to Vera s father who was responsible for the death of David s family in a pogrom. A

Immigrants are defined as people who come to a foreign country to live permanently. People can
immigrate for many of different reasons. During the period that this play was written many
immigrants were coming to America to establish new lives, which included religious freedom,

Frau Quixano immigrated to the United States to escape the pogroms that were happening in
Russia. Whereas, Vera and her family immigrated to the United States after being under the
notice of Czar s police. While each family member of this play adjusted differently this is,
something all immigrates had to do. Some immigrants like David had an optimistic look on
coming to America. However, Frau was living the same life she did while in Russia and wanting
no changes. Vera who initial was very prejudice overcame her Christian and family ties, whereas

Reflection Of College Writing
Over the course of this past semester, my ability to write has improved tremendously. Prior to
undertaking this course, my expertise in writing was not as fine tuned as it should have been. I
had never previously been enrolled in a class specifically tailored to writing which was quite clear.
Upon reading my past works, it becomes apparent that my writing style consisted of fluff, small
words, and inconsistently structured sentences. These problems have, for the most part, been
remedied with the coursework I have tackled in College Writing. Rather than long, drawn out
papers that take an eternity to reach the primary point, my recent work is much nicer in terms of

Previously in the year, it was typical for me just write what is on my mind at the time and later
go back and organize it. This paper is a stupendous presentation of that obsolete format. It was
common for me to leap from one paragraph to another without soundly blending my ideas into
the narrative. Despite this, however, many outstanding developments appeared in this essay.
This was the essay that helped me further develop my ability to write sensory details, which
immediately shows itself in the introduction: Lights blare down from above. To my left, I can
see the crowd cheering as the previous band charges off the field, and we prepare our grand
entrance ( 1). I also highlighted the negative aspects of the band, such as leadership problems:
Aside from inexperienced and uncaring managers, some people are just wholly opposed to
taking orders from their peers. This causes an avalanche of tension between them and their
section. Arguments will typically break out as to who is right and who is wrong especially
during marching season ( 3). Each paragraph, despite flowing strangely, outlined a specific aspect
of the band in increasingly detailed methods. One section describes the methods band members
use to communicate with one another while another tells of its hierarchy. Overall, this paper,
despite its shortcomings, laid the base for which I would later improve upon in following essays.
The second essay was a different beast to tackle. Our literacy narrative was

A Brief Look at Modernism
Modernism was a prevalent movement and developed an era in the twentieth century that shaped
the coming decades and Western ideas. Stemming from World War I, its culture, art and philosophy
reveals the mindset of modernity and how the historical events of that time influenced life and
society. T.S. Eliot was a part of the literary and artistic movement called Modernism, which can be
seen best in his poem The Waste Land. The concept of the wasteland was a powerful one to his
generation. His poem depicts an image of the modern world through the perspective of the
common man finding himself hopeless and confused about the condition of society. The poem
paints a picture of a disjointed and desolate world through apparent confusion and chaos that that
is achieved through fragments and allusions. The Waste Land demonstrates the present day
wasteland as a metaphor of modern Europe to depict the loss of culture and history that was
suffered due to the war. Arguably, the most important aspect of the poem is its fragmented nature
used to depict a post World War I wasteland. Rather than using facts to show the state of Europe,
Eliot uses several poetic elements to convey this, particularly the allusive and obscure to paint an
image of physical desolation of the war torn society and also communicate a sense of loss and
despair. The image of London, in the first section The Burial Dead, gives a sense of the trauma and
cultural desolation caused by the war. The narrator,

The Definition Of E Learning
Definition of e Learning
Today people need to learn new concepts and new techniques that change rapidly, so people have
an overwhelming need to learn, sometime they also need to work while learning and their resources
are limited therefore they need the power of technology to overcome the limitations of time,
distance and resources. E Learning provide people from one or different organizations anytime and
anywhere learning possibilities, providing the resources to teach them. Different e
Learning methods exist to support the different learning styles of different people who learn in
different ways and at different times. According to Mindflash.com (2015) E Learning is a range of
information technologies that schools and corporations use for education and training. In e
Learning courses, instructors and students who are too often located in different physical places
receive the information through computer networks, so they are provided the same material via
their computers.
According to Hung Jui long, (2012), some scholars define e learning as an instruction delivered by
all electronic media. Among them is Govindasamy (2002, p. 288) who stated that e learning
includes instruction delivered via all electronic media including the Internet, intranets, extranets,
satellite broadcasts, audio/video tape, interactive TV, and CD ROM.

By New Year s Eve, I was ready to take on the change in courses. Then the unthinkable happened.
On New Year s Day, three days before the start of Winter term, my grandfather passed away from
a combined heart attack and stroke. It was sudden and I had no idea what to do. It brought back
my depression, and I was on the brink of giving up entirely. Luckily and thankfully, my girlfriend
and family stepped in and pushed me to not give up and to seek counseling at CAPS. There has
been a lot of improvement which is elicited by my high honors completion of Winter term, my
near completion of Spring Term, and the many other things that have occurred since New Year s
Day: Obtainment of the Florence Gradon Ragen and Louis Brooks Ragen Scholarship and the
Nicholas J. and Thea Yonker Scholarship through the College of Liberal Arts, co founding
Pearlwood Visions, LLC. with my girlfriend through Google Startup Weekend: Roseburg,
declaring pre education, and establishing two internships this summer at UCC. Even though
there is still residual depression from the events of this past academic year, I am grateful for
discovering that History acts as my antidepressant; for while I sit in any of my history courses,
read a primary source, or am writing a research paper are the only times that I know I can get past
this depression and be successful in my academics and future career.
As mentioned, I have not participated in any activities at OSU, but to accommodate for this, I

Zoroastrianism Essay examples
Zoroastrianism
Zoroastrianism is one of the oldest monotheistic religions in the world today. Its adherents number
250,000, but thousands of years ago it was the state religion of the mighty Persian Empire and one
of the most powerful religions in the world. In this paper I will tell you about the history of
Zoroastrianism and its founder, Zoroaster, also known as Zarathushtra. I will discuss their scripture,
doctrines, and end by examining in detail the commonalities in both doctrine and legend which will
illustrate the influence that Zoroastrianism has had on more modern monotheistic religions.

when lived, but he is generally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(BBC, 2005) Today in India there still exists a large number of these Parsis.
Zoroastrian Scripture
Zoroastrian scripture is called the Avestaand was passed down orally generation after generation by
priests. As time passed, the language of the people changed in such a way that the meaning of the
teachings of Zarathushtra became difficult to understand, perhaps not unlike old English has
evolved into the modernized American version we used in the United States today. Because of this,
the oral tradition of the Avesta became more of an explanation in more plain terms of the ancient
script. (Skjaervo, 2005)
There two different parts to the Avesta. The old Avesta contains the Gathas written by
Zarathushtra which consists of 17 poems, or hymns, written for Ahura Mazda and are designed
to encourage people to live their lives as directed by God. The religious view of the Gathas in
the world is that we live in as a theater of conflict between two diametrically opposed moral spirits
(mainyus), they stand for mental attitudes in the psychological domain, and also opposing moral
vectors in all of creation. They are the Spirit of Goodness (Spenta Mainyu), and the Spirit of Evil.
(CAIS, 2006).
The other section of the Avesta includes:
В•The Yasna: Recited during the fire ritual.
В•The Videvdad: This discusses the duality of the earth.

The Information You Need If You Want to Be a News Anchor
Introduction
For a person who wants to be an anchor of a news station like me, you think you can talk about
everything and anything pertaining to the news, this is incorrect. Every show has regulations set
by the Government. This goes for television, radio, newspaper, magazines and even for the
internet. If any sort of media fails to abide by these rules, it is easy for the company to be sued or
the network to become canceled. If you are part of the television crowd and want to go into this
career cluster, this information would be very helpful to know.
Cross Ownership
If you are interested in owning a broadcasting company, you may, however, you would not be
allowed to also own a newspaper company at the same time. This is because the Federal
Communications Commission A.K.A the FCC will not allow cross ownership. According to
Common Cause (n.d.), the Federal Communications Commission describes cross ownership as a
single owner depriv(ing) a community of important, diverse source(s) of news, information, and
opinion. This goes to show that if one company were to own both newspaper companies and news
stations in one area, then most of its information could be assumed as being biased and one sided.
This is called the cross ownership ban. Along with broadcast and newspaper cross ownership, there
is also radio and television cross ownership. This pertains to the number of television and radio
stations a company can own in one community. However, the rules on this ban

Paints
Bottom paints and bottom paints for boats
Bottom paint is a covering applied to the lowermost point of a ship (hull) so as to get rid of
growing organisms that may attach to the boat especially at the lower parts or to protect the
metallic parts of the hull from corrosion. This is done to enhance the vessel s performance and
sturdiness.
Another added advantage is the improved contact between a free flow mass of water and the hull
of a speedy boat enabling the boat to sail at a much faster speed.
Modern bottom paints are composed of biocides (chemical substance that hamper growth of marine
organisms), organotin compounds and lethal copper. Types of bottom paints SPC (Self polishing
copolymers). It contains a resin known as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wash the hull surface carefully with a wax remover solvent and clean rags before you begin
sanding. Otherwise sanding a waxed hull only draws the wax into the scratches making it hard to
remove it. Stir By using a paint shaker, run it for a few minutes so as to distribute the copper and
the dye evenly throughout the paint. If you don t have it, decant half of the paint into a blending
container so that you can blend the remaining half thoroughly without spilling paint onto the
ground. Maintain scouring up the copper off the base of the container until the base feels clean.
Mix in what you poured off up to a point when the paint is standardized in color and evenness.
Some areas won t be protected if the copper is not well and evenly spread. Rolling the paint
Revolve the bottom paint on the hull using a roller cover. Extending the handle will make the job
easier by keeping you clear of small drops the roller will throw. Protect your body by wearing
coats and gloves. Remember that this paint contain chemicals which are highly fatal when they get
absorbed by your body.
Load the basin of your paint dish with paint and begin the painting using your roller. Be quick
because many bottom paints dry fast. Every time you top up the paint dish, begin with mixing the
paint in the container so as to maintain the copper in suspension.
By the moment you are through, many bottom paints will be well dry to overcoat. It is also wise
to look at the specifications on the type

Social media and Marketing
Introduction
According to state of inbound marketing in the year 2012 62% of marketers said social media
became more important to the marketing campaigns in the last 6 months. Apparently businesses
had moved on to the next big step of marketing their products and services to consumers or other
businesses. Marketing using social media as a tool to reach out to millions of consumers and
businesses had enhanced the sale rates, the relationship between the provider and the consumer, the
quality of the product or service. Furthermore, because marketing using social media is less
expensive than the usual way, the process of beginning a new business became much affordable,
and so the unemployment rates had decreased, with a final result of economic growth. Social media

Summary Of The Causes Of Drop In Crime
In Where have all of the criminals gone?, Levitt and Dubner discuss the theorized causes of the
unexpected crime drop in the 1990s. Before introducing all of the possibilities, the authors
provide a brief history of abortion in Romania. When Nicolae Ceausescu became dictator of
Romania he made abortion illegal, banned contraception, and discontinued sex education in hopes
of growing the population (p. 116). The children born following this were worse in every
measurable way: they would test lower in school, they would have less success in the labor market,
and they would also prove much more likely to become criminals (p. 116). In 1989, thousands of
people took to the streets to protest Ceausescu s regime and ultimately capturing him and killing
him. It should not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people believed that all of the criminals were simply getting too old to commit crimes.
However, Levitt and Dubner believe that demographic change is too slow and subtle a process (p.
136). Levitt and Dubner also discussed four proven causes for the drastic drop in crime. They felt
that there was substantial evidence proving that increased punishment was decreasing crime.
Longer prison terms deter people from committing crimes that would put them in jail, and gives
criminals the incentive to not commit more crimes after being released from prison (p. 121). It
accounts for roughly one third of the drop in crime (p. 122).
Also, an increased number of police substantially lowered the crime rate (p. 125). While crime
was booming the number of police officers decreased by more than 50 percent so did the
likelihood that a criminal would be caught (p. 125). The added police deterred crime, and provided
the manpower to imprison criminals who might have otherwise gone uncaught (p. 126). The
additional police officers accounted for 10 percent of the drop in crime in 1990 (p.

Sugar and Its Effect on Our Bodies
Many foods and drinks around the world are laced with sugar and the sugar levels are indicated.
Sugar is added to not only sweeten things, but to also improve the texture. Sugar is to some extent
used as a preservative as well, for example, when added to cut up fresh berries, the berries remain
fresher for longer than one without sugar. Processed foods are likely to have higher sugar levels
than home cooked foods since adding sugar is a modest way adding volume and weight. Sugar also
aids in making inferior foods pleasant. Unfortunately for consumers, sugar escalates calories while
having no nutritional value to the consumer.
Effects of Sugar on our Bodies
Sugar comes in various forms and not just the white powder beet sugar we are used to. It comes
in the form of corn syrup, maple syrup and honey, and affects the body negatively in equal
measure. For example, excess sugar has adverse effects on metabolism and may lead to all
manner of diseases. Below I will discuss the top disturbing effects of added sugar and why people
should avoid or at least control their sugar intake.
пѓ Added sugar has no nutritional value to the body and is bad for the teeth. I am sure you have
heard this on numerous occasions, but it is worth reminding you. Added sugars such as fructose
corn syrup and sucrose contain high amounts of calories and zero essential nutrients. For this fact,
they are stereotyped as empty calories. When people consume 10 20% of calories as sugar, this
causes a problem,

  • 2. Medicines Co Marketing The Medicines Company Case Write Up: Terence Cho, Felipe Duarte, Aleks Loiko, Robert Shaw, and James Wang Section 4, Group 10 Medicines Company s drug, Angiomax, outperforms Heparin, but incurs significantly higher costs to produce, making the drug difficult to attractively price. This difficulty in pricing stems from a poor positioning strategy for Angiomax which does not maximize the perceived value (PV) that the drug provides to its key customer segments. Therefore, Medicines Co., must develop a positioning strategy that maximizes the perceived value of Angiomax. Medicines Co. must first determine the critical characteristics its key customer segments (doctors, hospital administrators, and pharmacists) value in an anticoagulant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... to price Angiomax between $139 and $391. We recommend a halfway price of $265. This incentivizes doctors and, indirectly, hospital administrators to purchase the drug since this price is lower than the PV created by this positioning strategy. Implementing this solution requires additional considerations. First, Medicines Co. needs to thoroughly train its representatives on the cost savings and risks of complication statistics that show the significant effectiveness of Angiomax over Heparin for high risk patients. This is critical for their interactions with doctors. Second, Medicines Co needs to allocate additional marketing budgeting to demonstrate that Angiomax is a more effective treatment for high risk patients and not simply an alternative to Heparin. Finally, since Angiomax is close to being approved for heart attacks, the marketing team should perform another analysis of the marketing framework and budget more marketing to highlight the effectiveness of Angiomax in treating heart attacks over Heparin. Furthermore, if your past life was harmonious with the beliefs and righteousness, you will be reincarnated into a better life; consequently, if you lead a negative life you will fall back in your reincarnation. Your soul is capable of achieving a certain amount of good karmathat will lead you to enlightenment and possibly even stop you from being reincarnated again. An example of someone who accomplished what Jains are all hoping to accomplish was Mahavira. It was foretold that Marhavira was born into a wealthy family; however let go of that path. Letting go of his fortune, Marhavira focused on self discipline and deep meditation. He was ridiculed by the other villagers, but did not care. Soon, he would pull out all of his hair and leave it all behind. Also, it was said that the only thing he owned was a loincloth that he would lose. Marhavira left the city to meditate for many years with no possessions, he let go of everything he once owned: clothes, money, possessions, even his own hair. Mahavira no longer cared for the materials in his life, and left the city and was able to reach enlightenment through mediation and relinquishment. Although the path of Jainism is a difficult one, those who practice Jainism have the hope of reaching this supreme enlightenment like Mahavira. They hope that one day, they will have enough positive karma to allow them to surpass the ability to be reincarnated. Many practice jainism through extreme situations. In Great ExpectationsCharles Dickens exhibits an altogether different perspective of Victorian women. Rising above class lines, Dickens gives capable representations of ascertaining and manipulative women, with no indication of the delicate quality and limit for sensitivity that describes the perfect Victorian woman. The Victorian ideals for a woman were so staunch that they were retaliated in the shape of characters like Estella who become tools of revenge upon men who are a part of this patriarchal system. As we have already discussed, Miss Havisham played a big role in the formation of Estella. Miss Havisham was a victim of the society of men and as she was exploited by a man, feelings of revenge were aroused in Miss Havisham. It can also be put this way that Miss Havisham is the representative of all the Victorian women who were... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. The Symbolism of Ophelia’s Character Essay Name Subject Instructor Date The Symbolism of Ophelia s Character The name Ophelia has been most commonly associated with William Shakespeare s play, Hamlet, where she is referred to as the title character s mad lover. She is believed to have killed herself out of madness by drowning herself in a river. Interpretations about Ophelia s character have ranged from being a woman who lost her sanity upon her father, Polonius death to being the object of hatred by Hamlet. However, despite her supporting character in the play, her personality has roused numerous criticisms and interpretations from philosophers and critics. This is probably due to the fact that her role in the play is more of a descriptive character rather than a speaking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The costs of such religions refers to the madness and ultimately the death of Ophelia. It can be presumed through Chapman s statement that the Catholic religion puts more pressure down on Ophelia as she tries to overcome her marriage problems and her sexual desires. Ironically though, instead of feeling ashamed, Ophelia resorts to the old lauds to assure herself of peace and solace. Therefore, it is also safe to conclude that it is her religion or piety which takes away her fear. This is evident in the fact that she drowns just after she chanted such old lauds . Erin Campbell provides a more psychological and sociological approach in the character analysis of Ophelia. She argues that Ophelia suffers from hysteria, a malady often ascribed to upper class women who bide their time in their fathers homes while awaiting fulfillment of their culturally mandated roles as wives and mothers (Campbell). Campbell proves her point by comparing Ophelia s character to that of Quentin Compson who also drowned herself as a result of unrequited love, patriarchal restrictions and losses. Truthfully, it is the social environment of Ophelia which caused her madness. Feeling imprisoned and manipulated by the people around her, she felt that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Women Years Ago Vs. Women Today Women one hundred years ago VS women today Women one hundred years ago were drastically different than women today in many aspects of their lives. Soon after the turn of the 20th century, a surge in women s independence surfaced. This was largely due to the fact that women were urged by Rosie the Riveter and other propaganda to replace men in factory jobs to support the war effort and provide income for their families. Women s lifestyles changed from then on, including their hairstyles, clothing, and overall personalities. The culture surrounding women in the early 1900 s, especially in terms of the way that they dressed, was drastically different than that surrounding women in today s society. The typical everyday clothes that women would wear in the 1900 s were usually long dresses or clothes that covered most of their bodies. Between the years 1900 1909 there were two key trends, the La Belle Epoque and the Gibson Girl. They were very much alike, they both consisted of a corsetto make the waist skinnier and the bosom and backside larger, but it remained modest to the standards of that period. Both of these styles were very high class and were custom for the wealthier people of the day, this is due to the dresses being made out of luxury fabrics and rhinestones. However, from 1910 1919, the styles began to change when women became tired of wearing the puffy dresses and tight corsets. They wanted something more comfortable, so they came out with three styles called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many myths about becoming an organ donor, but here are just a few: 1. If I agree to donate my organs, the hospital won t work as hard to save my life: When you go to hospitals for treatment, doctors focus on saving your life, not someone else s, and the doctor in charge of your care has nothing to do with transplantation. 2. Organ donation is against my religion: Organ donation is consistent with the beliefs of most religions, including Catholicism, Protestantism, Islam, and most branches of Judaism 3. An open casket funeral isn t an option for organ donors: The donor s body is fully clothed, so no one can see the markings or scars of surgery for organ donation. For bone donors, a rod is inserted where the bone was removed, and for skin donors, the skin donation is taken from the person s back, and since the deceased is clothed and on their back in the casket, the scar is not visible. 4. Whether or not all gifts carry the obligation of reciprocity is characterized by the gift s cultural context. The Gift: The Form and the Reason for Exchange in Archaic Societies, (1925) Marcel Mauss ethnographic book, presents the necessity of reciprocation through analysing the giftgivingpractices of the Maori and the Kwakiutl. Jonathan Parry revisits Mauss theory in his essay, The Gift, the Indian Gift and the Indian Gift , (1986) addressing its connection as well as contradiction to the Hindu law of gift giving. The obligation to reciprocate is based on the belief that the recipient receives and possesses something that belongs to the donor (Mauss 1925: 17). In reciprocating a gift, Mauss explains that the receiver balances and restores the hau of the first gift to its origin (Mauss 1925: 15 17). Moreover, the potlatch, the North American Indian practice of exchanging gifts competitively, is characterized by themes of rivalry and destruction, requiring one to reciprocate or risk losing authority (Mauss 1925: 11 12). In Northeast Siberia and among the Eskimos of West Alaska, the exchange of gifts is imbued with additional spiritual significance (Mauss 1925: 18 19). In destroying by sacrifice, as in the potlach, the people are fulfilling their obligations to the gods, to whom they owe their use of the land (Mauss 1925: 20 21). Marcel Mauss asserts this exchange of gifts between the humans and the gods is a necessary element of buying peace between them (Mauss 1925: 21). Mauss argues that reciprocation is a mandatory element of gift giving because of the social contract that is formed by the first gift, which contains in it the donor s spirit (Mauss 1925: 14 21). The Development Of The Horror Genre Throughout The Years Makhi Hughes Section 5 15 November, 2016 Final Semester Paper The Development of the Horror Genre Throughout the Years Both horror and science fiction explore the boundaries of what is means to be human (Belton, 272). This is done by emphasizing the dilemmas of the figures who straddle the border of human and non human (Belton, 273). Horror and Sci fi contain narratives that take on a form of a search for knowledge that will enable the human race to overcome any obstacle that involves a supernatural force (Belton, 273); the story lines require a search or journey to resolve the issue. Horror and Sci fi often overlap when there is a monster featured in a sci fi film; or when a horror film is set in the future (Belton, 271). The two differ in purpose, horror, a sub genre for sci fi, was created to generate fear through a figure of a monster or supernatural being. While Sci fi has a chief purpose of focusing on science and reasoning (Belton, 272). The development of both genres is created to a number of works done throughout the years. The improvement of special effects, influences from the original masters of suspense, camera angles, and heightened elements of the horror film genre has allowed it to maintain its popular demand amongst audiences for decades. This was said by Jerome Clark, a survivor of San Francisco s deadliest earthquake in history. In this single sentence, he described the entire disaster through his own eyes ( The San Francisco Earthquake, 1906 4). The Great San Francisco Earthquake may be studied by examining the earthquake, the fire, and the aftermath of the disaster. The night before the earthquake was almost like any other night in the bristling city of San Francisco. The world famous opera singer, Enrico Caruso, was performing at the city s Grand Opera House. The music and singing filled the building with harmonious notes. Caruso s voice was like thunder, and it seemed to shake the Opera House. Little did the spectators know that the earthquake to come in a matter of hours would not only shake, but destroy San Francisco s Opera House (Montagne 1). On April 18, 1906 at 5:12 AM, the citizens of San Francisco were awakened by intense shaking. The earthquake lasted from forty to sixty seconds, with a small fore shock that arrived 20 seconds earlier. It is difficult for scientists to estimate the intensity of this earthquake because of the early and inaccurate equipment from the turn of the century. With today s modern equipment, seismologists have estimated the earthquake to be a 7.7 to 8.3 on the Richter scale. This single quake ruptured 290 miles along California s San Andreas fault line ... While that number is quite high assisted living can be much cheaper, at an average of $3,300 a month for the base fee , however each additional service that they require help from staff to complete is an additional fee. In the facility observed there was a fee for every action that staff completed or assisted with, including assistance with medication, trash, cleaning, and applying treatments such as a breathing machine. This article was written by Edward Hallowell who is a psychiatrist that has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and dyslexia. Both of these disorders individually come with a lot of different struggles. Throughout the article, Hallowell discussed his struggle as a student and what/ who helped him get through school. One of the first things Hallowell mentions was his first grade teacher, Mrs. Eldredge. She seemed to be his support system when it came to reading aloud during class. From other research, I know that this can be very difficult for students with dyslexia since they read slower, letters can get switched around, and whole words can look switched around. Mrs. Eldredge stood by his side while he read, so that no one would laugh at his stuttering or stammering (Hallowell, 2012). I believe this was a nice move by her because she recognized his struggles, and did everything she could to make him feel comfortable reading aloud in class. He ends up crediting many of his gifted teachers for him becoming a good student and getting through college to get his degree as a psychiatrist (Hallowell, 2012). • 32. The Physiological Comprehension Of Immune Responses Introduction: In today s society, molecular understanding of functions, like interleukin 2, has contributed to the physiological comprehension of immune responses in life forms. Interleukin 2 is a crucial factor in the fight against HIV/AIDS and other immunosuppressant diseases. It binds itself to T cellreceptors which induce naive T cell proliferation and differentiation. This contributes to a plethora of different cells such as cytotoxic T cells, natural kill cells, and LAK cells, which protect life forms against infections and/or viruses. In 1993, an immunological analysis was performed by Sadlack and his colleagues. Knockout mice were used, meaning that their IL 2 gene was removed. This resulted in an increased amount of T and B cell counts relative to the wild type mice. These researchers thus suggested that it is an inflammatory regulator. Overall when IL 2 is not present, unregulated proliferation of T cells increase as mice reach their terminal stage of illness. Now, interleukin 2 is used in HIV therapies, which helps increase and regulate T cell reactions in immune compromised patients. Data has been shown that IL 2 increases proliferation and survival of CD4+ T cells in these patients. Stemming from World War I, its culture, art and philosophy reveals the mindset of modernity and how the historical events of that time influenced life and society. T.S. Eliot was a part of the literary and artistic movement called Modernism, which can be seen best in his poem The Waste Land. The concept of the wasteland was a powerful one to his generation. His poem depicts an image of the modern world through the perspective of the common man finding himself hopeless and confused about the condition of society. The poem paints a picture of a disjointed and desolate world through apparent confusion and chaos that that is achieved through fragments and allusions. The Waste Land demonstrates the present day wasteland as a metaphor of modern Europe to depict the loss of culture and history that was suffered due to the war. Arguably, the most important aspect of the poem is its fragmented nature used to depict a post World War I wasteland. Rather than using facts to show the state of Europe, Eliot uses several poetic elements to convey this, particularly the allusive and obscure to paint an image of physical desolation of the war torn society and also communicate a sense of loss and despair. The image of London, in the first section The Burial Dead, gives a sense of the trauma and cultural desolation caused by the war. The narrator, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
