in Newfoundland and Labrador. I was able to attend many sessions involving topics
like inclusion, mental health and empowerment, and through which, attained many
new skills and perspectives for my future in therapeutic recreation. Before this
conference, I did not have a solid idea as to what therapeutic recreation truly looked

I was able to trace my family history as far back as my Great grandparents on my
mother s side. I learned some very interesting and shocking facts about their lives
and the struggles they had to endure. My Great grandparents adoptive my mother
and twin sister at the age 2 because their parents were unable to care for them

were their own. My Great grandfather was named James Allen Barnes, he was one

both had suffered great loses at very young ages that would change their lives

accident during a hunting trip and died. Their fathers were not on the same

had to quit school at the age of 15 to help his mother pay bills by delivering
newspapers and Miriam and her sisters were split up to live in different homes.
The main reason Miriam and her sisters were separated was due her mother not

sisters ever again. Both families struggled tremendously during The Great

In the play Antigone, Creon starts off as the loyal king of Thebes. He is loyal to the
gods and loyal to the welfare of Thebes. However, over the course of the play, Creon
degenerates into a tyrant. His degeneration is showing his character development.
Creon s pride about the human law also develops throughout the play, creating
conflict with the divine law. When Antigone rebels against his law, he becomes
stubborn, and makes myopic decisions and grows into his hamartia. Besides his
hamartia, Creon s position as the king makes him a power hungry man. His power
madness degenerates him into becoming a ruthless and vindictive man, even to his

Agonizing Over Attention Although at face value the poem dandelion by Julie
Lechevsky may appear to just be about dandelions, after taking a closer look at the
metaphors, personifications, and other literary devices that are used, it is clear
that the poem is about how attention isn t always a good thing. Lechevsky does this
by showing how dandelions are well known but not in a good way, and how her
parents give her too much attention. One way that Lechevsky shows how attention
is not necessarily a good thing is by using the metaphor of the dandelion. While
dandelions are a well known plant, it is only because they [go] on television in
commercials for poison squirt bottles. Dandelions don t have any monographs
written about them. Dandelions aren t interesting enough and aren t worthy of
scrutiny enough to have essays written about them. The only way that a person
would be interested in a dandelion is if they wish to poison it and kill it.
Dandelions are unwanted and undesirable, but still get lots of attention as people
go out of their way to kill them. Obviously, if the only attention for the dandelion is
negative, then it can be inferred that attention isn t always helpful and isn t always
something to be desired. At the end of the poem, Lechevsky states that [she]
wishes [she] could grow like a dandelion, from gold to thin white hair, and be
carried on a breeze to the next yard. She says this to show how she wants to blend
in, be unnoticed as she floats around in the breeze . She doesn t want the attention
that would be given to a dandelion on the ground. Also, the dandelion floating in the
breeze is a metaphor for being lifted up and feeling happy. Lechevsky mentions that
she wants to grow from gold to thin white hair. Gold is often something noteworthy
and something that gets lots of attention, while white hair blends in with the crowd
and isn t so noteworthy. This demonstrates how Lechevsky would like less attention,
like the white hair, as opposed to lots of attention, like the gold hair would get. The
dandelion also has good qualities, but they are often overshadowed by its bad

cities throughout the Southern United States, such as Macon, characterized by sheer
bedlam and agonizing dejection following the Civil War. He sought to advertise the
state of Georgia and the city of Macon as progressive and reformed in order to attract
the northern investors and capital necessary to revitalize the region. Reforming state
institutions and social climate, or at the very least creating and maintaining the

Following his arrival in 1914, Anderson took a progressive stance on lynching, a

Introduction The film The Breakfast Club was directed and written by John

is 95 minutes and can be categorized under the genre of comedy and drama. It
follows five teenagers, who all vary in personality and stereotype, get stuck in
detention on a Saturday morning. They are all different types of people in nature
but when stripped down and seen through without a stereotypical lens, they all have
something to share and have something in common amongst themselves despite
being so different from each other. In the movie, they are stereotyped as, a basket
case, a brain, an athlete, a princess, and a criminal (IMDB, 2016). The setting takes
place in a library and whilst they are in detention, they go through varying phases.
They start off with solitude, then proceed to share a few words, and later into the
