2. Wolf Alice Angela Carter Identity
Formation and Views of Identity in Angela Carter s Wolf Alice
In her innovative gothic story Wolf Alice, Angela Carter chronicles a young girl s coming of age.
As Wolf Alice, the feral protagonist, battles to gain her humanity, she transitions from a subject of
indisputable liminality to one of more stability. By incorporating mirror imagery, Carter emphasizes
psychoanalytic elements of Lacanian logic. On the other hand, by including the symbol of the
moon and establishing Wolf Alice as a heroine, Carter highlights aspects of feminist theory.
Throughout the text, Carter meticulously utilizes each theoretical approach to defy preexisting
notions of identity and humanity. Specifically, Carter challenges the rigid standards of gender
identity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The central impetus for this alteration draws back on the aspect of the moon: The moon had
been shining into the kitchen when she woke to feel the trickle between her thighs and it
seemed to her that a wolf . . . who lived, perhaps, in the moon? must have nibbled her cunt while
she was sleeping, had subjected her to a series of affectionate nips too gentle to wake her yet
sharp enough to break the skin (Carter 158 159). Basically, these lines describe the moment
when Wolf Alice first menstruates. Menstruating enables Wolf Alice to begin to think and
deliberate logically. Her theory of the wolf living in the moon, albeit absurd, unquestionably
indicates that she is developing as a person, as she is theorizing and imagining different
possibilities. Perhaps an even more significant role of the moon, however, is how it furthers Wolf
Alice into temporality. Before Wolf Alice experiences menstruation, she is stuck in a timeless
state; after she undergoes menstruation, she is finally able to exist within time. Not only does she
start to exist within time, but she becomes aware of its passage: Wolf Alice was surprised into
bleeding again and so it went on, with a punctuality that transformed her vague grip on time. She
learned to expect these bleedings . . . she discovered the very action of time by means of this
returning cycle (160). This undeniable awareness stands a crucial step towards achieving

3. The Boston Matrix for Cadbury s
The Boston Matrix
The Boston Matrix is a tool used by marketing managers to make decisions on which products
within their portfolio that they should market and under what category on the
Boston Matrix they fall into. There are four sections to the Boston Matrix, problem child, stars,
dogs and cash cows. Each category is different to one another as they represent different products
on how they are selling. The Boston Matrix can be useful to a business like Cadburys as they have
a wide range of products in which they can separate to these four different categories. This can
determine for Cadburys which products they could possibly market.

This had increased sales within the introduction thus having a high growth market and high market
share straight away with sales of 40 million within the first week. The reason for his is due to the
huge marketing campaign that Cadburys had set up which led to a global rollout of the product on
the September 24 1996 called Fuse day .
Following from this the Fuse bar fell into the cash cow section. This is because everyone knew
about the Fuse Bar and recognised it. This left it with no new potential consumers. This is why they
were within this section.
Then the Fuse Bar went through the problem child section. This only lasted for about a month or
two. This was because no one really knows what had happened but it is suggested that the Fuse
Bar was trying to market itself more and fell into having a high growth market and a low market
share. Because the share had dropped, it had potential to grow again so they re advertised again.
The last section that they were left it before they officially closed was the dogs section. This is
because after they pulled their advertisement the Fuse Bar didn t have much attention given to it,
which left it to decline within the market and not many people were buying it either. This is why
they were in this section at the end which lasted 5

5. The Importance Of Food Poverty In The Food System
The discourse of land as capital is an important theme for using Critical Race Theory to discuss
food systems. Access to means of production have historically influenced the ways in which
groups use land resources to exert dominance over others. Simply put, land is power. Social justice
scholars have integrated the growing of food as a crucial tenet for achieving food sovereignty in
communities of color.
Food justice scholars are also giving power to communities previously marginalized by influencing
the rhetoric of food discourse. They have highlighted the illusion of choice in food production and
consumption. Adding perspectives and experiences from People of Color has integrated the unique
experiences that they have while participating in the American food system.
The economic disparities we see for Black communities have been a result of systematic inequality
in our economic structures. Negative health outcomes are also a result of these structural
inequalities; the lack of access to healthful foods is a further form of economic oppression. The
social and economic costs associated with negative health outcomes compound the obstacles to a
more equitable economic system. In order to changes these outcomes, a shift towards cooperatives
or community oriented economic structures is essential. Further research is needed to find these
alternative systems.

6. Identity Crisis And An External Driving Force, By David Peck
Self acceptance may be one quality that some individuals cannot obtain. In literature, the
protagonist often struggles to accept their true identity. Characters struggle to either accept
themselves or be accepted by others in the literary work. The search for identity or struggle for
acceptance can be driven by multiple outside forces. Searching for identityis prominent not only in
literature, but also in the real world. An article written by David Peck explains the relationship
between an internal identity crisis and an external driving force. He states that ... the identity crisis

7. History Of The Mall Of America
The Mall of America (MOA) in Minneapolis opened its doors in the summer of 1992 to great
fanfare. Touted as the largest mall in the world, it was divided into four courts, each with its own
dining areas. For many people, the MOA represented the best and worst of the suburban shopping
mall taken to its ultimate extreme. The sheer size and scale of the mall was unprecedented, as were
the entertainment options; the centre of mall featured both an amusement park and an aquarium.
In many ways, though MOA was a far bigger immediate success than anticipated, its completion
also marked the beginning of a shift in mall culture. Shoppers started to turn away from the mega
malls and their food courts. People were looking for the more intimate civic

Rebellion is known as the opposition to one in authority or dominance ( Rebellion ). Often when
the term rebellion is mentioned, one may first imagine a group of unwelcoming individuals
raising arms against a group in higher power such as those during the Revolutionary War. The
Revolutionary War saw the colonists fighting back against the British who the colonists thought
ruled unfairly. The Revolutionary War is an example of violent and confrontational rebellion
but rebellion is not limited to loud and outlandish actions. Rebellion can also apply to subtle,
almost unnoticed actions. Such can be said about those opposed to wearing animal products
such as leather and furs. An individual that is opposed to animal cruelty may rebel against the
action of wearing animal products by avoiding them altogether. As for personal demonstration, I
recall being in middle school when a plethora of kids were playing with the Nintendo Wii, a
newly released gaming console. Almost every friend of mine had the Wii and played it
extensively. However, I was not amused by the system and decided that I didn t want to take part.
I then began to rebel by not partaking in playing the game. This example of mine demonstrates a
non aggressive take on rebellion, as I did not raise arms against my friends in an effort to show my
opposition to the actions they

questions such as...(1) what is motivation and/or employee involvement, (2) how does motivation

increasing organizational effectiveness, and finally (4) what needs to happen to change the

The Important Road Ahead: Optimizing Value and Performance
Understanding the motivating basis of a behavior makes it easier to deal with that behavior and
improve performance. Motivation and Employee Involvement are two of the most researched and
often, challenging aspects experienced by organizations and leaders today. Many leaders remain,
despite clear majority of research, ill equipped to motivate their employees or lack understanding of
link between them. Furthermore, studies indicate that the understanding of the importance of
employee involvement by employer is essential to managers because this is a significant predictor
of work behavior among employees (e.g. Manojlovich, Laschinger, Heather, 2002). Thus, to create
responsiveness for operational excellence, the employees representing the organization must be
valued. Creating this balance, it is essential that business designs encompasses offer support and
training for leaders/employees to work well together and appreciate the efforts of each member.

Give a critical consideration of five strategic management process tools and their contribution to
strategic management and strategic thinking.
It has been argued that management needs the resources to create core competencies to develop a
strategy that has sustainable competitive advantage (Marti, 2004, p1), so the definition of a strategy
as an integrated and coordinated set of commitments and actions designed to exploit core
competencies and gain a competitive advantage fits this argument. The strategic management
process follows the lines of strategy, while also earning above average returns (Hanson et al, 2008,

It could then measure the results against the same period for the year before, and assess where the
company is doing profiting, as well where improvement is needed. In addition, financial ratio
analysis can be used to evaluate where a company is positioned against its competitors.
Benchmarking is the identification of best practices among competitors and non competitors that
make them superior performers (Stone, 2006, p650); the practice of comparing a company to a
standard set by other companies, with a view toward improvement (Horngren et al, 2008, p90). A
large number of firms within Australia and the rest of the world are now applying benchmarking
to their organisation, particularly when it comes to managing the human resources (HR).
Benchmarking serves a number of purposes: it enables managers to audit how effectively HR
meets the needs of the organisation; it enables an organisation to learn from those who excel in
an HR practice; it identifies HR areas where performance can be improved; and it can be used to
create a need for change (Stone, 2006, p623).
Benchmarking can be linked with financial statement and ratio analysis, which was discussed
previously, in that by comparing it with other company s financial statements, it can benchmark
against the industry average as well as against key

Group skills are comprised of 3 core aspects which are: empowering and engaging others, building
effective teams and teamwork, and leading positive change. Each one of these core elements is
very important in developing group skills and can always be improved if the proper approach is
taken. Effective empowering and engagement is made up of 9 various dimensions. For example,
personal mastery experiences, modeling, providing support, arousing positive emotions, providing
information, providing resources, organizing teams, creating confidence, and delegating work are
all dimensions making up effective empowermentand engagement. I received a 12 for all of the
elements listed and a 60 for delegating work which gives me a sum score of 156, placing me in

Offred is a part of a society that leaves her deprived of any warm human relationship, and only
conforms to the rules set on her because she wants to survive. Having such a lack of freedom
makes her crave human affection, and she copes with this by trying to escape reality, while at
the same time avoiding the memories of the freedom she once had. Religion is an idea that is
also significant in A Season in the Life of Emmanuel by Marie Claire Blais. This theme is
accompanied by hypocrisy, abuse and the need for escape from reality. This novel tells the
stories of children growing up in a society in which their lives are not valued. The children in this
society are expected to repress the abuse inflicted on them, leaving them to deal with their
demons on their own. This abuse is often present in the church and in the reformatories that they
are sent to, demonstrating the hypocrisy present in this society. Since these children are not
aided in overcoming the obstacles placed in their lives, they search for and begin to find their
own ways of escaping reality. For Jean le Maigre, who is very sick but nonetheless is made to go
to school and work the family s land, the escape is found through the writing of stories and

Taymor uses is color. Taymor uses color to develop Shakespeare s characters. Many times
throughout the film, coloris used to represent a character s mood or their hidden agenda during a
scene. We also see color used to represent good versus evil. The three colors that are most widely
used during the movie to show symbolism and imagery are black, white, and red. While there are

Again, the color black is used to represent inferiority. Had the fly been a color other than black,
like Aaron as Lucius compares it, Titus would have been angry at Lucius for killing the fly.
When the child of Aaron and Tamora is brought in (1:43:00), viewers see another instance in
which black is used as a negative color. Since the child s skin is black, like Aaron s, the child
must be killed. The black skin of the child will contrast with the white skin of its mother and
therefore will bring negative views upon Tamora. Had the child been white, regardless of if it
was Saturninus s or not, Tamora could have passed the child off as being Saturninus s. Since the
child has black skin, she can no longer do that and since black is viewed as an inferior color, the
baby must be killed. One of the most prominent times that the color black is used is during the
scene in which Tamora, Demetrius, and Chiron come to Titus s house (2:11:00). Tamora is in all
black attire and her face is painted black. Not only is she representative of death through her
outfit, she actually is death according to Titus. Her job is to bring death onto people. Throughout
the film, black has been unanimously viewed as a negative color. In this scene, we see black
being used in the most negative way possible: representative of death. Little do the character s

21. The Impact Of Japonisme On European Art
A few centuries ago Western world could only perceive Japanese culture through the stories of
travellers, merchants and writers. However, as the transport and communication technologies
advanced, Japanese culture outspread giving the start to Japonisme (French term). It appeared at the
end of XIX century when isolation ended and japanese art arrived to the West. Japonisme had a huge
effect on Western artists making them rethink the way they view world. So, the aim of this paper is
to
reveal the impact of Japonisme on the European art, more precisely, to answer the question:
„How did
Japanese art influence Western designers in the 19 th Century? quot;.

These European collectors could possibly be accused of mere

lasting but also if literature and the theatre are taken into account able of assimilating traits
which were thoroughly authentic, for all their fairy tale, never land aura, and conveyed affirmative
information about the Far East. A more realistic perception of China and Japan was promoted by the
international exhibitions of the later nineteenth century. However, considering that in the
seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the firsthand experience was not accessible to the majority of
artists, and that channels of communication were still undeveloped, European knowledge of
Japanese art was already extremely extensive.
There has not yet been enough research into the similarities and distinction between the crazes
for Chinese and Japanese culture to make many conclusions, but it is safe to say that in many areas

23. Conformity Vs. Conformity Theory
Conformity theory is used to explain why people eat bugs, smoke cigarettes, enjoy boring tasks,
following trending wardrobe styles, and under appreciate enticing options (Jones Mills, 1999).
These tactics are performed in an effort to maintain consistent views among group members and
reduce the number of attitude conflicts and tension (Matz Wood, 2005). Conformitywill be defined
as changing one s own response to be consistent with other group member s responses (Asch,
1955b). Asch s work supports the notion that people will change their views and behaviors in
order to fit in with a group. They may even go as far as to express a clearly wrong response if
those around them are in agreement (Asch, 1956). While research has shown short term conformity
effects; there are few studies that look at the lasting changes that follow the act of conforming. The
goal of this study is to see if conformity expressed in groups can translate into private acceptance
that will be carried on after the initial study is conducted.
Prior studies have shown that in a group environment there are two main drives; the need of an
individual to belong, and the need for organization among the group (Asch, 1955a). An individual
s need for approval and intimacy from those they are closest to is linked to the fact that approval
has to come before any social bond can be formed and maintained (Baumeister Leary, 1995).
Human beings are social creatures by nature with an intense need to belong.

The subject of this chapter summary will be the eighteenth chapter of Alan Taylor s American
Colonies. The chapter is called The Great Plains and discusses the history of that geographical
region from 1680 1800. Taylor begins by explaining how warfare both sustained and weakened
New Mexico. It maintained unity, because without an external enemy to focus on, the Pueblo
people would rise up in revolt against Mexico. However, the constant warfare discouraged any
new settlers from putting down roots there. Spain s holdings in North America were weakened by
the foreign policy of the motherland, which focused on the colonial core of the territory, not the
exterior regions. For Mexico, New Mexico was just a buffer zone between itself and other... Show

Taylor describes how most of their well being was based around horticulture, a couple of annual
trips dedicated to hunting buffalo. Subsequently, the author spoke to the religion of the tribes in
the Great Plains which, like most Native religions, was based on a dualism between life and death.
A few tribes were not villages, instead living a nomadic lifestyle and following the herds of buffalo
wherever they roamed. The nomads became collectively known as the Apache. Almost everything
they ate, wore, and owned was provided by the buffalo. In the next section of the chapter, Taylor
discusses the Genizaros. Essentially, this was the term used for Native American slaves who served
in the households of governors and other officials. These slaves were taken from the nomadic
Apache, but not without cost. In retaliation, the Apache would attack colonial settlements and
kidnap or kill anyone living there. Oftentimes, the Pueblo people and the lower class colonists were
the ones who suffered most, not the officials who actually held the Genizaros. Another important
section of this chapter was simply called Texas . The author provides the context of the Great Plains
in 1720 including the French Spanish rivalry and the corresponding rivalry between the Pawnee
and Wichita Indians and the Apache and Pueblo Indians. The Spanish colonies were populated
mostly with unarmed missionaries, while the French controlled regions

Romantic Period Comparison The romantic period and its literature is solely based off of reform
and change. At the time, slavery was very prodominit in the Americas, but the people profiting
from their virtues in England were oblivious to the conditions the slaves had to endure. On the
other hand, women were fighting their oppressions at home. This was not a case of poor living
conditions, like the slaves, but trying to break away from social standards and stereotypes placed
upon them. At the time, the main way to get out information and spread a cause was through

In the beginning, when I began brainstorming about this competency I felt as if it was a demand
need for everyone to be aware about. I have seen individuals being decline of services for a
variety of reasons, and it makes earning those services harder when they aren t within personal
reach. I witnessed this during my placement, as well as my personal life. During my placement, I
realized that the elderly population still often have the chance to be denied for services, support
and have their rights being acknowledged. There are several things that I know about this
competency while interning at Lutheran Social Services. Oppression and discrimination
happens in a range of ways and sometimes it doesn t exactly present itself as those actions.
Elderly still have a voice to advocate for their needs, but sometimes I feel as if it can be taken
less seriously compared to other populations. Therefore, we have to engage in understanding
what we have to do by taking action in a political sense where we have to put others needs and
advocate what we believe in for those to get proper rights as well. Overall, if someone needs aren
t being addressed, we must empower them to help serve them to give them justice as well. In my
activities I have participated in different ways of seeing how this relates to my placement

four major landforms of Europe include the Western Uplands, North European Plain, Central
Uplands and Alpine Mountains. These landforms are primarily arranged in bands that run from
east to west. Each landform provides a biodiversity and resources for humans. The Western
Uplands are formed of ancient rock that has been shaped by glaciation and shapes the north and
west coastline of Europe. It includes Spain, French Brittany, Scandinavia, and the British Isles. The
North European Plain is low and fertile and has rivers. It goes from southern Britain through the
middle of Europe to Russia. The Central Uplands are mostly wooded hills and highlands in France,
Belgium, southern Germany, and the Czech Republic. The Alpine Mountains have high mountain
peaks and active volcanoes that run from northern Spain across southern Europe to the Caucasus in
Russia. The High Alps range from eastern France to Slovenia and are central to the Alpine region.
Mountains act as a natural dividing range and can also isolate people and separate cultural groups.
The Central Uplands is the area bordering the main Alps to the north, which includes a significant
portion of southern Germany extending eastward. These foothills provide excellent farmland, and
there are major agricultural operations here. Western Highlands offer an area for grazing livestock

Kenneth Grahame was born on 8 March in Edinburgh, Scotland. When he was a little more than a

Inveraray on Loch Fyne. Kenneth loved the sea and was happy there, but when he was 5, his

There the children lived in a spacious, if dilapidated, home, The Mount , on spacious grounds in
idyllic surroundings, and were introduced to the riverside and boating by their uncle, David Ingles,
curate at Cookham Dean church. This delightful ambiance, particularly Quarry Wood and the River
Thames, is believed, by Peter Green, his biographer, to have inspired the setting for The Wind in

34. Examples Of Postmodern Fragmentation Of Gender
Postmodern fragmentation of gender
According to Lee (1999), postmodern theories abandon modernist singular identities for a
fragmented version of history, where individuals are unstable, constantly moving objects. Post
structuralist discourse feminists have dramatically altered views of gender and sex, creating a
distinctly new paradigm for the concept of womanhood, and providing a comprehensive demolition
job on Western orthodoxies (Sheehan, 2004, p.21). In his way, identity is not only socially and
culturally constructed, but it also changes in different contexts, such as class, race or sexual
orientation, and established systems, such as Western hegemony, humanism, and the nature of
reality, are deconstructed (Woodward, 2002; Stoddart,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using concepts, such as magical realism, Nights at the Circus questions what can be considered
real, and anticipates Butler s ideas on artificiality of gender and sexuality. The protagonist,
Fevvers, is the queen of ambiguities, goddess of in between states (p.81), and, as such, her
identity is a performance of characters, none of which can be accepted with certainty, and
deemed authentic. She is a virgin and a whore, a female object on display, desired by men, and
also a marvellous monster and an alien creature (p.161); she is an aerialist, fabulous bird woman
(p.15), yet her bodily constitution is butch. Fevvers is, as Kerchy (2004), notes, a simulacra
(p.101), offering an infinite variety of female identities, no more a singular being (p.286). Similarly
to Bakhtin s (1986) concept of the carnivalesque, Fevvers performance subverts norms, and denies
any finality to her identity. This feminine masquerade dismantles all existing norms and rules for
gendered social division. Nights at the Circus brings forth marginalised characters, women and
freaks, and positions them into a state of becoming, where there is no original, only layers of
identities (Botescu Sireteanu, 2010; Michael,

The Innocent Man Book Response In today s society the criminal justice system that we live in
is flawed in so many ways. Some say that it works while others go to prison or jail for crimes
that they didn t commit. In this paper I will be covering specific examples from the book, The
Innocent Man, where the defendant s rights were violated. John Grisham talks about innocent men
being innocent and convicted for murder and sent to unlawful court proceedings. In this paper I
will be focusing mainly on the violations of his 6th amendment. The 6th amendment is the right to

This violation being in the form of a videotape, which could have completely changed the

Ward knew all about this videotape (as it was shared with him along with all other information)
yet he chose not to bring this evidence to the table and share it with the jury. Judge Jones ruled
that the tape was not a Brady violation. The tape was not really hidden; it was handed over after
the trial, sort of a delayed submission (Grisham pg. 258) .This one piece of evidence alone
would have been enough to change the opinions of the jury and change the outcome of the trail.
However because Barney Ward did NOT show this video, this is a clear violation of Mr.
Williamson s 6th Amendment, which guarantees that in all criminal prosecutions there must be
an effective assistance of counsel (Cole and Smith pg. 84). In my opinion at no point in this trial
was Ron Williamson s attorney an effective assistance of counsel . Now the last example of how
Ron Williamson s 6th Amendment was violated was as the very beginning of all this. During the
investigation of the crime scene, the police conducting the search had found two hair samples.

it had come from the scalp of Mr. Williamson. However this is just a claim and Barney Ward knew

36. Creating Opportunities For Students Proficiency ...
I understand the need to create opportunities for my students to show their proficiency in directing
their own learning and have done so within my classroom environment. I am aware that as the
Learning Manager this requires me to have a clear understanding of each student s strengths, needs,
and interests. This is needed in order to create a diverse and relevant classroom experience that
revolves around the curriculum. Please see my examples of such opportunities below:
EXAMPLE 1
During diagnostic testing of a particular year 8 class the reading and spelling levels of certain
students were well below average. These results were amplified when it was obvious that the
attendance within the class was sporadic and behaviour unruly. These combined, led to a poor
attitude towards classroom participation and assessment tasks. The action displayed below was
created after my EPL 3 placement when it became evident that the classroom needed consistent
routine and positive reinforcement in order to encourage student participation.
The required action manifested in the form of motivating student interest, learning and
differentiation in the classroom. The Year 8 students needed a form of routine within the class and
a point of interest which would be renewed systematically throughout the term. Thus, the rules and
expectations chart was created in tandem with the students, in order for the students to take
ownership of their behavior and attitudes within the classroom.

On the other hand, institutions are tidily defined as the social rules and regulations that make

41. The Environment And Governance Of Modern Cities
The topic of ecological sustainability can be complex or simple, depending on the many factors
that take place. In living systems, being sustainable means to produce more than to waste. By
creating something sustainable, it assures that the resources can be recycled and will be available
for people in the future to meet their needs. In terms of modern cities, the sustainabilitydepends on
how much minerals and energy we bring into the city(water, energy), and how we use them
effectively for our health and community, while keeping the available resources from depleting.
Not only that, the sustainability also depends on the cities form and infrastructure to support an
average citizen s daily needs. With the politics and governance of modern cities, how viable are
plans of creating a sustainable city now? Is it possible? Many nations have already agreed that it
is an important and influential issue, with harsh consequences if not tackled. The situation of a
city and its flaws also depends on if the cities are in the third world, or in a rich nation. A
sustainable city needs to be environmentally worthy, have a suitable infrastructure for all and should
be well run. These characteristics can only be achieved by proper governance and the collective
effort of the citizens. The essay discusses the importance of environmental sustainability and some
of the widely known issues of urban and rural sustainability around the globe and possible solutions
and preventions.

42. Essay On Choroidal Melanoma
Choroidal melanoma is the most common intraocular (inside the eye) tumor in adults. Choroidal
melanoma is the most common cancer of the eye. It originates from the pigmented cells of the
choroid of the eye, it is not like other tumors that starts in other parts of the body and then spreads
to the eye.
Choroidal melanoma is malignant; it can metastasize and eventually spread to other parts of the
body. In COMS (The Collaborative Ocular Melanoma Study) states that choroidal melanoma
initially appearing as a small freckle beneath the retina, choroidal melanoma can grow in height and
diameter, and may eventually spread to other organs of the body, causing death. Since choroidal
melanoma is an intraocular tumor, and therefore usually not seen, patients with this disease often
do not recognize the presence of this tumor until it grows to a size such that it decreases vision
either by obstruction , retinal detachment, bleeding or other complications. Pain usually does not
occur except with large tumors.

Small or suspicious melanomas (those with a height less than 3 mm) are kept under close
observation for growth before treatment is started. Medium sized tumors (those between 3 and 6
mm in height) can be treated with either radiation therapy or enucleation; it has been determined
that both treatments prevent the spread of cancer. In large sized tumors (those greater than 6 mm in
height), the treatment of choice is usually enucleation. This is because the eye would not be able to
tolerate the amount of radiation that will need to treat a tumor of this size. The COMS study
showed no benefit in administering radiation prior to

43. Bhp And The Global Mining Industry
BHP is a top producer in the global mining industry with sales of $44 billion and operating in 25
countries. The current influences that may affect BHP s profit and how it is run are globalisation,
technology, cost based competition, and government policies as priorities. BHP needs to focus on
technology and globalisation, as they are key factors and influences that may affect the business
greatly as they are directly linked with BHP and its operations processes.
Description and Legal structure
BHP Billiton is one of the top producers of iron ore, metallurgical coal, copper and uranium, while
also interested in oil, gas and energy coal. Extraction and processing of the minerals, oil and gas
operations are located primarily in Australia and the Americas. BHP runs under a Duel Listed
Company structure with 2 parent companies; which are BHP Billiton Ltd and BHP Billiton Plc.
These are operated as a single entity and are run by a board and management. The global
headquarters for BHP is Melbourne, Australia. BHP s revenue was over $44 billion in 2015 with
over 65,000 employees in 2016 and operating in 25 countries.
Influences
Globalisation
Globalisation is the high degree transfer of capital, labour, intellectual capital and ideas, financial
resources and technology. It includes the removal of trade barriers and increased integration
between countries and companies around the globe, which means BHP can operate in more
countries, transfer goods between the countries and in

44. Evaluate and Use Information and Communications Technology...
The purpose of this essay is to research a technological toy, I focused on Bee Bots, which I use in
my setting, evaluate and critically analyse the effectiveness of that toy in promoting children s
learning. Later I will demonstrate my personal use of ICT and a record of use of Information and
Communications Technology (ICT) over a period of one month as a professional role in promoting
children s development in my setting. Finally, I will reflect on my tracking sheet and identify the
opportunity to develop ICT in communication with parents. According to Siraj Blatchford,
Whitebread (2003) in supporting children in their development of an early understanding of ICT
we are concerned to support them in learning about a wide range of... Show more content on

It is available with across curriculum mats to enhance children learning in all area of their
development, therefore in my work place we adapt the mats that we already have in our setting
and I still feel that we did not use its full potential. So far we used Bee Bot with Alphabet mat,
and alphabet flash cards to extend children letter sound recognition and oral language
development for children with English as an Additional Language (EAL) to support their
listening and recalling skills. Number and shape mat is used to expand children mathematical
skills such as counting, number recognition, positional language, shape recognition. Road mat is
used to develop children orientation as they need to manipulate, orientate, track and rotate the
Bee Bot as well as road safety skills. Using a Bee Bot also introduce the children to a range of
science skills as they interpret design challenges, generate possible solutions, make plans, test
and evaluate and modifying the program were necessary (Sprainger, 2007). I founded as well as
a number of teachers around the world (see teachers reviews in Appendix C) that Bee Bot are
good value for money (manufacture instruction enclose in Appendix B) and the only
disadvantage I can find is that after each activity program needs to be cleared in order to
reprogrammed again. Although, it is clear that ICT should be used to develop skills across all six
areas of learning it is the Knowledge and Understanding of the World strand alone

45. Comparing Booker T. And W. E. B. Du Bois
I saw dawn upon them like the sun a vision of a time when all men walk proudly through the
earth and the bombs and missiles lie at the bottom of the ocean like the bones of dinosaurs buried
under the shale of eras. Randall . Dudley Felker Randall born january 1914 in Washington D.C.
growing up in the middle class home where his college educated parents instilled justice, education
and an appreciation for poetry in young Dudley. His father was very much into politics because of
that Dudley and his brother would listen to prominent black speakers. When Randall was about
nine years old he and his familymove to Detroit, Michigan in 1920. By the time he was thirteen he
had his first poem published in the Detroit Free Press.. Dudley had many opportunities... Show

and W.E.B., which succinctly summarizes differences between Booker T. Washington and W.
E. B. Du Bois in a simple dialogue; In the poem it is about two great leaders of the black
community, Booker T and W.E.B sharing their beliefs. Randall wrote this poem during the
segregation, when African Americans were fighting for their freedom and rights. Booker T see
African American labor work is for the benefit of the black community. Booker T is basically
saying that slavery is not bad and that slavery should not be removed. W.E.B disagrees with
Booker T ,,,he believes that African Americans should stand up for their freedom and not be put
to work as slaves. Randall uses rhyme in the poem to interpret Brooker T perspectives and
W.E.B perspectives. In the first stanza Booker said When Mister Charlie needs a hand to hoe
the cotton on his land, and when Miss Ann looks for a cook, why stick your nose inside a book .
Brooker T is saying that African Americans do not need education because they already have a
job to do as lower calles serfs working for white people. He is saying that slavery is not a bad
thing and that African Americans should stay slaves. In the second stanza W.E.B disagrees, he
said that Charles and Miss can look another place for hand or cook . He believes that African
Americans should fight for their freedom and should be treated as an equal citizen. One of the first
things that doesn t go unnoticed when reading this poem, is that this poem uses rhyme and rhythm.
Many poets were riding away traditional rhyme and rhythm schemes for free verse or blank verse

46. Ap World History Essay
How were the needs for water and economic structures in some of the earliest of world s
civilizations cities and states met around 3100 BCE 100 CE and how did they get there? The
cities and states back then depended on working waterways and architectural growth in order for
their population to thrive. The larger the population, the greater the need for more easily and
readily available water. When we think of a large population, we often think of the word
civilization and if they had certain traditions that may have been passed down. Some of the first
known civilizations were that of ancient Mesopotamiaand Egypt which were located along the well
known Nile, Tigrisand Euphrates Rivers. They had traditions just like any other culture, but the
Mesopotamians wrote them down allowing historians a glimpse into their culture and their need
for water. By looking at these civilizations today, we can talk about the political and economic
factors of how water supplies were regulated around Mesopotamia and... Show more content on

In addition to demonstrating that people could transport and store food effectively, the presence
of cities also indicates that people were producing enough surplus food to allow for a
specialization of labor (Wheeler 1). So in short, we could say that if everyone was a farmer with
this new access to water and new technology, then no one would be building the city or preparing
for the future. There would be no storage bins for grains, no roads and no one to govern the city
and create written laws or policies for their growth. Supplying the city with water wasn t just a
technical issue, but it also affected the economical, legal and political development of any ancient

47. The Mountains Of Central Appalachia
Trent Brown
Professor Lautenshlager

30 November 2014
The mountains of central Appalachia have always been known for, almost exclusively, the
booming coal deposits that inhabit it, as well as the controversy that comes with the industry. The
controversy that involves the wildlife, ecosystems, and residents of the area is one with fine lines,
gray areas, and more than simply a good and evil side. The mountains of Kentucky, Virginia, West
Virginia, and Tennessee are also home to some of the most extensive biodiversity in our country, as
well as rich cultural heritage that extends to the earliest years of our nation. Everything that makes
central Appalachia unique and identifiable is exactly what they might be in jeopardy of losing.
Surface mining began to replace traditional underground mining around WWII (Bozzi 116). Rather
than digging into the mountain to extract the coal, strip mining involves removing the overlying
soil and rock that covers the coal deposits (Lutz 1). It seemed appealing at first because the
previous known dangers of black lung disease and cave ins were now limited with the surface
mining method (Bozzi 116). However, surface mining came with it s own problems, a lot of them
being more serious and irreversible than underground mining (Allen 182). This method of surface
mining was the spark that created the trend of mountaintop removal (Bozzi 117). Mountaintop
removal is the complete destruction of the mountain peak in order to reach coal

48. Gender, Sexuality, Reproduction, And Motherhood
Prior to and during the 1960 s the traditional outlook on women as equals was limites in nearly
every aspect. From marriage, sexuality, reproduction, and motherhood a woman was expected to
follow a pre destined order and timeline in life to complete these tasks. The expectation of women
at the time was to marry young, 18 24, and quickly start a familywhere she would devote her life to
raising children and housekeeping. Wives of the time period shouldered the responsibilities of
child care and home making, while men were expected to merely work, come home to a clean
house and dinner, and then slip off to bed. Until the late 1960 s when women began pushing for
social change to rid themselves from the slavery of traditional womanhood. Though this life
style seems more like imprisonment, some women didn t feel that way, for example my
grandmother Armalene Haxby, was content in her role as the home maker. However we know
that this idea wasn t shared with the rest of American women. The 1960 s was filled with social
reforms and women rights protest meant to free the American women to be equal to their male
counter parts. An excerpt from Betty Friedan s book The Feminine Mystique, gave insight to
some women s outlook on life, I m desperate. I begin to feel I have no personality. I m a server of
food and a putter on of pants and a bed maker, somebody who can be called on when you want
something. But who am I? (Friedan 63) What was it like to be a house wife? Was it in fact
