Bangladesh has achieved significant success in food security through improving water security. By expanding irrigation infrastructure and introducing high-yielding crop varieties, Bangladesh increased cereal production from 10.5 million metric tons in 1971 to 32 million metric tons in 2009. However, challenges remain such as low water productivity, depleting groundwater tables, and the effects of climate change on water availability. The Global Water Partnership can help address these challenges by promoting integrated water resources management and acting as an evaluator to verify governments' claims on achieving food security and sustainability goals.
