Synopsis : RECREATIONAL TOURISM I (TERRESTRIAL) exposes the students to
terrestrial-basedrecreation activities within the tourism industry. Students will
develop competencies inthe overall operation and management of terrestrial-
based recreational activities. Allterrestrial-based recreational activities will be
conducted based on international safetyand risk management plan standards.
To ensure successful implementation of thiscourse, the teaching and learning
process must apply flexible and innovative schedulingstrategies.
Course Learning Outcome:
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:-
1. Demonstrate mastery knowledge and understanding to the core concept of terrestrial-basedrecreation and its
contribution to tourism industry. (C3, PLO1)
2. Display the required skills and technique of tereesterial based recreational tourism activities. (P2, PLO2)
3. Demonstrate effective communication skill in explaining rules and safety procedures of recreation activities. (A3, PLO3)
Teaching Method
Lecturer based on interactive power point, self-directed learning, problem solution exercise, and group assignment.

FOUNDATION OF RECREATIONAL TOURISM
1.1 Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of recreational operation andservices.
1.1.1 Discuss the core concept and principle of recreational tourism.
1.1.2 Explain the principles of recreational tourism.
1.1.3 Illustrate the relation between recreation, leisure and tourismindustry.
1.1.4 Describe the development and demand for recreational tourism activities.
1.1.5 Identify types of highly demanded recreational activities.

1.2 Discuss recreational tourism issues, trends and impacts to the Malaysia economy and tourism

RECREATION SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT PLAN
2.1 Demonstrate competencies of recreation safety and risk management plan.
2.1.1 Apply sport and recreation rules, regulations and safety standards in all recreation activities.
2.1.2 Put into practice outdoor safety trainer-client minimum ratio in allrecreation activities.

b. Swimming (open waters) -1:5
c. Swimming (control waters) -1:10
d. Swimming children – 1:5
2.1.3 Conduct lifesaving practice using appropriate first aid techniquesand equipment.
2.1.4 Practise safety-first attitude and standard safety procedures.
2.1.5 Conduct first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
2.1.6 Perform first-aid responder role in emergency situations
2.1.7 Explain the importance of undertaking risk analysis of all recreation activities.

3.1.4 Apply acquired competencies and techniques in conductingcamping activities.
3.1.5 Perform campsite operation management.
3.1.6 Comply with conservation practices, safety procedures and risk management plan in camping
activities.
3.1.7 Plan, organize, lead, and evaluate camping activities.

COURSE OUTLINE DTM3023 Department & Faculty: Department of Tourism and Hospitality Academic Session:JUN 2015 Lecturer and telephone no: :Mohd Zulkifli Manaf : 0199001007 Synopsis : RECREATIONAL TOURISM I (TERRESTRIAL) exposes the students to terrestrial-basedrecreation activities within the tourism industry. Students will develop competencies inthe overall operation and management of terrestrial- based recreational activities. Allterrestrial-based recreational activities will be conducted based on international safetyand risk management plan standards. To ensure successful implementation of thiscourse, the teaching and learning process must apply flexible and innovative schedulingstrategies. Course Learning Outcome: Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:- 1. Demonstrate mastery knowledge and understanding to the core concept of terrestrial-basedrecreation and its contribution to tourism industry. (C3, PLO1) 2. Display the required skills and technique of tereesterial based recreational tourism activities. (P2, PLO2) 3. Demonstrate effective communication skill in explaining rules and safety procedures of recreation activities. (A3, PLO3) Teaching Method Lecturer based on interactive power point, self-directed learning, problem solution exercise, and group assignment. Weekly Schedule: LW 1 FOUNDATION OF RECREATIONAL TOURISM 1.1 Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of recreational operation andservices. 1.1.1 Discuss the core concept and principle of recreational tourism. 1.1.2 Explain the principles of recreational tourism. 1.1.3 Illustrate the relation between recreation, leisure and tourismindustry. 1.1.4 Describe the development and demand for recreational tourism activities. 1.1.5 Identify types of highly demanded recreational activities. a. Terrestrial b. Marine 1.1.6 Differentiate the needs of recreational activities. 1.2 Discuss recreational tourism issues, trends and impacts to the Malaysia economy and tourism industry. (QZ) LW 2 LW 3 RECREATION SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT PLAN 2.1 Demonstrate competencies of recreation safety and risk management plan. 2.1.1 Apply sport and recreation rules, regulations and safety standards in all recreation activities. 2.1.2 Put into practice outdoor safety trainer-client minimum ratio in allrecreation activities. a. Jungle trekking -1:10 b. Swimming (open waters) -1:5 c. Swimming (control waters) -1:10 d. Swimming children – 1:5 2.1.3 Conduct lifesaving practice using appropriate first aid techniquesand equipment. 2.1.4 Practise safety-first attitude and standard safety procedures. 2.1.5 Conduct first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) 2.1.6 Perform first-aid responder role in emergency situations 2.1.7 Explain the importance of undertaking risk analysis of all recreation activities. (QZ) LW 4 LW 5 RECREATIONAL CAMPING 3.1 Demonstrate competency of group recreational camping activity planningand management. 3.1.1 Describe the safety rules and procedures for camping activities. 3.1.2 Identify camping equipment and accessories. 3.1.3 Select appropriate camp-site for camping activities. 3.1.4 Apply acquired competencies and techniques in conductingcamping activities. 3.1.5 Perform campsite operation management. 3.1.6 Comply with conservation practices, safety procedures and risk management plan in camping activities. 3.1.7 Plan, organize, lead, and evaluate camping activities. LW 6 LW 7 ORIENTEERING 4.1 Demonstrate competency of orienteering activities. 4.1.1 Explain the concept and purpose of orienteering. 4.1.2 Identify orienteering anatomy and components. 4.1.3 Describe the functions of orienteering equipment and accessories. 4.1.4 Describe different types of orienteering activities. 4.1.5 Design orienteering activities, locations and sites. 4.1.6 Describe the safety rules and procedures for orienteering 4.1.7 Apply acquired knowledge, skills and techniques in conducting orienteering activities. 4.1.8 Practise approved orienteering procedures and techniques. 4.1.9 Perform navigation using maps, plans and routes. 4.1.10 Comply with safety procedures and risk management plan. 4.1.11 Plan, organize, lead, and evaluate orienteering activities (PRC) LW 8 LW 9 FLORA AND FAUNA OBSERVATION 5.1 Demonstrate competency of flora and fauna observation activities. 5.1.1 Explain different types and purpose of flora and fauna observationactivities. a. LW 10 LW 11 JUNGLE TRACKING 6.1 Demonstrate competency of jungle tracking techniques and procedures. 6.1.1 Describe the safety rules and procedures for jungle trackingactivities. 6.1.2 Describe the functions of jungle tracking equipment and accessories. 6.1.3 Communicate rules and procedures to minimize risk and negative Environmental impact. 6.1.4 Design suitable jungle tracking activities at selected location. 6.1.5 Comply with safety procedures and risk management plan. 6.1.6 Plan, organize, lead, and evaluate jungle tracking activities. (PRC) LW 12 LW 13 CLIMBING 7.1 Demonstrate competency of wall climbing and rope course techniques. 7.1.1 Describe the safety rules and procedures for climbing and ropecourse activities. 7.1.2 Apply acquired knowledge, skills and techniques in conductingsafety climbing and rope course activities. 7.1.3 Comply with safety procedures and risk management plan for ropecourse and climbing activities 7.1.4 Ensure appropriate safety line rope belay system are install forclimbers 7.1.5 Practise correct knot tying techniques in rope course and climbingactivities. 7.1.6 Explain the functions of abseiling, rappelling and wall climbingequipments and accessories. 7.1.7 Conduct rope course and wall climbing activities. 7.1.8 Plan, organize and manage climbing activities.
