Courage Essay To Kill A Mockingbird
Crafting an essay on the theme of courage in "To Kill a Mockingbird" can be both challenging
and rewarding. While the novel provides ample material to explore the various dimensions of
courage, including moral courage displayed by characters like Atticus Finch and the children,
Jem and Scout, it also demands a deep understanding of the historical and social context.
The difficulty arises in weaving together the intricate threads of Harper Lee's narrative,
analyzing characters' actions and motivations, and presenting a coherent and insightful
argument. It's essential to go beyond surface-level analysis and delve into the subtleties of the
characters' struggles, societal expectations, and the impact of racism on the display of courage.
Moreover, striking the right balance between personal reflection and textual evidence requires
finesse. One must avoid the pitfall of a mere summary of events and instead focus on the
broader implications of courage within the novel, connecting it to broader societal issues and
moral dilemmas.
Researching scholarly interpretations, critical essays, and historical background adds another
layer of complexity to the process. A comprehensive essay on courage in "To Kill a Mockingbird"
demands a synthesis of literary analysis, historical context, and a nuanced understanding of
human behavior.
In conclusion, while composing an essay on courage in "To Kill a Mockingbird" can be
challenging, it is a task that offers an opportunity to explore profound themes and gain a deeper
appreciation for the complexities of human courage. The effort invested in navigating these
challenges can result in a rich and insightful exploration of the novel's central theme.

Part I: In researching the International Conference on Population and Development
held in Cairo in September 1994, I have found that its focus was based upon bringing
the world s attention to that of various things. This included that of the effects of
religion, methods of family planning, and women s status in the world; however, the
biggest and widely debatable topic at the conference was that of abortion. This
conference also introduced various strategies to the world that influenced countries to
include influencing the drafting of national position papers, produced useful ... Show

This then will holds our population to maintain its current numbers longer along
with an increase from that of newer generations being born. There are several
reasons of why applying the concept of population carrying capacity is difficult to
apply to the human population. This includes that humans are able to adapt and we
are able change our food source depending on availability. We are also use variety of
resources ; however, when our resource run out we import it from another location or
substitute it for another resource. We have also discovered technological advances
and agricultural techniques that allow for us to maximize the productivity of
agricultural land. Some of the dynamics of food supply for the increasing human
populations include ways that our population must learn to increase yields. This
includes increasing the use of urban farming in cities, avoid planting mono cropping,
reducing food waste, and increasing human consumption of grains and less of meat
due.
Part II: In researching why population growth is more rapidly growing in the lower
developed countries and will account for most of the new population by 2025, I found
that this is due to various reasons. This includes that of lack of education or family
planning in females in these countries. Once the these countries began to make
advances in things such as decreasing infant mortality rate, better housing conditions,
better sanitation practices, and advancements in the

Of Cannibals And Thomas More s Utopia And Michel De
Montaigne
An ideal society is a model that strives to function the most efficiently. Both
Thomas More s Utopia and Michel de Montaigne s Of Cannibals state the
fundamentals of specific ideal societies. The differences in these perfect societies
are driven by the principles they are based upon. More s society is based off
cultural order while Montaigne s is based on natural order. The two foundations cause
geographic, social, and political differences.
Geographic differences include physical and human characteristics of a society. This
includes where the civilization is located, and the specific features of each
landscape. In Of Cannibals , the situation of their country is along the sea shore,
enclosed on the other side towards the land, with great and high mountains, having
about a hundred leagues in breadth between. (Montaigne 3). Similarly, Utopia s
ideal society is also by the ocean but it is a crescent island, that is naturally
protected by rocks that surround the island (More 49). While these locations may
seem to offer similar advantages, More s island is specifically different because the
maze of rocks that surrounds it. The reasoning behind this is to have the entrance to
the island be a secret between the citizens. The added protection is a geographic
difference that originates from cultural order.
Another environmental difference between the societies is the development.
Montaigne s civilization lacks all types of infrastructure except housing. He states
their buildings are very long, and of capacity to hold two or three hundred people,
made of the bark of tall trees (Montaigne 3). While these structures seem large, these
are the only types of buildings they have, so overall the land is quite
underdeveloped. On the contrary, in More s society There are fifty four splendid big
towns on the island, all with the same language, laws, customs, and institutions.
(More 50) In Utopia, there are excess buildings for commerce and government. These
geographic disparities stem from the principles of nature and culture.
The final geographic difference is in agriculture. In Of Cannibals there is no form of
agriculture. The absence of cultivation is because the society does not encourage

However, there has been, and continues to be, vigorous debate on what the
optimum daily intake of vitamin C is. Some have argued that 200 mg/day is an
optimal daily intake for adult humans. Others have suggested 1 2 g/day is best, this

A new beginning
History teacher Lee Everett is on his way to prison, having been convicted for
killing a state senator who had slept with Lee s wife. While leaving Atlanta for
prison, being driven by a police officer, the police cruiser he is in runs over a
walker and crashes off the highway. After fighting off the police man (who turned
into a walker after the crash), Lee meets Clementine, a young girl who was hiding
out in her tree house, as well as Shawn Greene. Shawn takes Lee and Clementine
home to Shawn s family farm, owned by his father, Hershel Greene. Lee meets a
family, consisting of husband and wife, Kenny and Katjaa, and their young son,

Later, they come across high schoolers, Ben Paul, Travis, and their band teacher,
David Parker. Ben s two companions die in the chaos of saving one from a bear
trap, and the other dies and reanimates despite not being bitten. Ben reveals that
being bitten is not the only way one can become a walker; simply the act of dying
can cause one to turn. Brothers Andrew St. John and Danny St. John from a
nearby dairy farm offer food and shelter in exchange for gasoline for their
generators that power their electric fence. The group accepts though remain uneasy
about them. While there, Mark is hit by a crossbow arrow from a group of bandits
attacking the farm, Danny to find the bandit camp but instead come across a
crazed woman named Jolene, who appears to know something about the farm but
is killed before she reveals it. Lee finds a battery less video camera among her
possessions. Still uneasy about the farm, Lee and Kenny discover a butchering
room in the back of the barn before they are called for dinner. Lee excuses himself
to look for Mark, and finds him near death, his legs cut off. He warns the others that
the St. Johns practice cannibalism, but the family overpowers and separates them.
In the butcher s freezer, Larry suffers a heart attack, but before Lilly can administer
CPR, the others smash his head, realizing it is too late for Larry and fear being
trapped with a Walker. Clementine helps their escape, and they quickly rescue the
rest of the group from the St. Johns, leaving them to their fate as the electric
generators go and Walkers invade the farm. On the way back, the group finds an
abandoned car with food and other supplies, including batteries. Lee watches the
video from Jolene s player, and finds she had been watching the motel, knowing that
the group was safe as long as the St. Johns
The Qualities Of A Hero In The Legend Of King Arthur
Heros have been an influential topic throughout all different time periods; however,
many of them have a different definition of a hero. The one thing they all share in
common is the fact that how they display their heroes is a strong reflection of their
culture during the time. Many of these heroes were displayed in similar ways, mostly
based on the legend of King Arthur. In Le Morte D Arthur, various qualities of heroes
and villains are displayed throughout the tale; consequently, having an influence on
many other characters throughout history. The main characteristic of heroes in the
legend of King Arthur was that they were deemed as very honorable. Each was
constantly regarded a great amount of respect to the royalty. In one scene of Le
Morte D Arthur, Sir Gawainis on his deathbed and is discussing with King Arthur
about the turn of events that occurred and was blaming himself for what had
happened. He states, My good uncle, it was my pride and stubbornness that brought
this all about, for had I not urged you to war with Sir Lancelotyour subjects would
not now be in revolt. (Malory 222). A quality of being honorable is the ability to
admit to your mistakes and never place the blame on others. Even before dying, he
is not angry at anyone else but his own self. By being so humble and taking the
blame for his actions, Sir Gawain is exhibiting a great amount of respect and honor
towards his king. Another act of honor in the story was performed by Sir Lucas, as he
The Allied Powers of the First World War
I. Introduction
During the First World War (1914 1918) The United Kingdom was one of the Allied
Powers, fighting against the Central Powers (the German Empire, the Austro
Hungarian Empire, the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Bulgaria).
In 1914, British Army did not have the power to fight a major war on the continent,
and throughout the course of military actions had to multiply in size fourteen times
(Chandler/ Beckett 211). Nature of the conflict that forced reorganization of the
British Army, including raising one of the largest all volunteer militaries in history,
creation of the Royal Air Force, and use of conscription, as well as facing modern
and far more brutal weapons resulted in tremendous changes in the British warfare.
British commanders, experienced in fighting small colonial wars, had to quickly
adapt to a very different set of circumstances.
The end of War marked a decline in the respect of authority. Economical effects of
massive casualties, during carnages like the Battle of the Somme (1916), became
felt and evidences of Generals incompetence were brought to light (for example in
1927 publication of Lions Led by Donkeys: Showing how victory in the Great War
was achieved by those who made the fewest mistakes by British Captain P.A.
Thompson). The criticism intensified after the end of the Second World War, when
massive sacrifices of the previous war were put in perspective. Publication of book
like the Donkeys (1961) by Alan Clark or release of
Advantages Of Brakes
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 INTRODUCTION TO BRAKES
Brakes are mechanical devices that increase the frictional resistance that retards the
turning motion that is supplied to the wheels of the vehicle. In a vacuum assisted
hydraulic brake system, a constant vacuum is kept maintained in the brake booster
using the engine. When the brake pedal is pushed down, a poppet valve opens and air
pushes/rushes into the pressure chamber on the driver s side of the booster. In a
vacuum braking system, vacuum is used for the application of brakes.
Braking the train is a very complex process, particularly to rail vehicles and is of
great importance because of essential contribution on the safety of the moving
vehicle. This complexity comes into picture from the fact, that during braking process
various phenomena occurs, of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
it should be same as in the brake pipe, during brake release but that the connection
to the brake pipe is closed during a brake application. It is important to close the
connection as soon as the brake pipe vacuum is reduced so that a difference in
pressure is created between the upper and lower sides of the brake cylinder piston.
1.4 ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF VACUUM BRAKES:
ADVANTAGES:
1. It provides partial release, which the air brake could not.
2. It consists of accelerator valves which help to speed up the operation on each
vehicle.
3. It consists of two pipe system, in which one is brake pipe and the second was
provided to give an additional supply to speed up the brake release.
4. It consists of an equalizing reservoir which helps to set the brake to the right level.
5. Door operation , whistles, warning horns, etc. can be operated using the vacuum
supply.
6. It is simple in design.
DISADVANTAGES:
1. It takes longer time to
British Isles Storms

them (40 marks)
The British Isles has a Cool Temperate Western Maritime Climate which is owing to
its location at the edge of a continent, between two seas and subject to the influences
of five major air masses; north westerly, south westerly, northerly, easterly and
southerly. British climate is classified as temperate as it rarely features the extremes
of heat or cold, rain, drought or wind that are common in other climates. Basic
characteristics of this climate include temperature, precipitation, wind and air masses.

15 million trees were knocked down and trees blocked roads and railways. Power
lines were taken down and 5 million homes were left without electricity. Insurance
claims were up to ВЈ2 billon and so premiums increased for everyone the following
year. The Met Office were criticised in the immediate aftermath of this event as it
failed to forecast the storm correctly which arguably led to the death of many more
people than necessary due to them sleeping through gale force 11 winds. In the
aftermath, however, a great deal of money and effort was put into a post storm clean

example, there was unnecessary destruction of trees which, thought fallen, were still
living and so could have been recovered through nature. The Met Office learnt from
their mistakes in this event and so a number of recommendations were made.
Observational coverage of the atmosphere over the ocean to the south and the west of
the UK were improved by increasing the quantity and quality of observations from
ships, aircrafts, buoys and satellites. Continued refinements were made to the
computer models used in forecasting and the training given to forecasters was
improved. Substantially more warnings will be put out in future in the event of a

Frank Herbert s Use Of The Spice In Dune
Theme In Dune, by Frank Herbert, everyone s life depends on the Melange, or the
spice. The spice was a drug that could not be reproduced and only found on the
planet Arrakis. Frank Herbert shows in Dune that there are products like the spice
that large populations depends on. First, the Fremen on Arrakis heavily depends
on the spice. The spice is in their everyday food and materials. They use the spice to
make things such as spice paper, spice fibre, and chemical explosives. It is also in
their food and drinks. Paul eats the two leaf wrapped morsels into his hand. They
reeked of spice (Herbert 282). The people also drink spice coffee and spice beer
(145). Since spice is so rare, it is also used as a currency against the Guild. The
Fremen use the spice to bribe the Guild to keep [their] skies clear of satellites and
such that none may spy what [they] do to the face of Arrakis. (283). Spice is also
used during the spice trance during the transfer of Reverend Mothers. For the
Fremen, they would die if the spice disappeared. Not only do they use it as parts of
objects and consumables, it is also their currency.... Show more content on

The Guild is in charge of all trade in between the worlds. The Guilds use the spice
because the spice heightens awareness. The space navigators use orange spice gas,
which gives them the ability to fold space. That is, travel to any part of the
universe without moving (105). This is important because they need to be able to
travel through space at an incredible speed. Also, because the spice is so popular
with the people, the Guild can make money by transferring the spice from Arrakis.
The Guild knows of the spice s importance to the Universe so when Paul threatens to
destroy all spice production on Arrakis...forever (461), even they listen to his
commands. The spice is important to the Guild because it allows them to earn and
receive money by transportation fees and getting to places much
South Western Pedagogical Case Study
There are plenty of seemingly trivial issues in South Western School District
originating from the various departments and clashing opinions. Lately however,
the school board has been trying to find a sense of identity for the school and
maintain what they call a Tradition of Excellence. The main problem is trying to
find different ways to bring South Western up to date with the rest of the educational
world. In an effort to rise to the level of other schools, the board has been applying
the Common Core pedagogical shifts throughout the district. This was the first
proposal for a solution to fix the schools educational relevance. The idea of
pedagogical shifts is to promote self learning and self sufficiency, which means that

Many classes now use online resources such as Schoology and Google Classroom,
and other classes have been able to use programs specifically designed for that
subject. This is a valid proposal, however, the switch for some classes has meant
that everything has become online based. This could be a negative aspect in the
sense that student interaction will decrease and the attitude of the school is open to
change negatively or positively. However, this allows students to further their
experience with computers and make it easier for them to adapt to technological
advances that they will experience for the rest of their life. Another proposal for the
development of the school is for teachers to switch to project based learning, in
which students may opt out of testing and instead complete an equally challenging
project that would better showcase their abilities. This is also a good idea in theory,
but with the amount of standardized tests required by the state, it is difficult for
students to perform well on them without prior experience of
Christian Tradition and Non-Christian Tradition are Two...
Many have heard of Faust in one way or another. A Faustian Bargain is one where an
agent trades away the future for a boon in power during the present. I will be
exploring at least two magical traditions in Marlowe s Faust: the Christian tradition
and the non Christian tradition.
Not many stories captivate readers like Marlowe s Faust can captivate. It s the classic
story of a man who risks hellfire by dealing with the devil for a brief, yet
magnificent, period of otherworldly knowledge and power. This story has been
rewritten and reformulated time and time again. I aim to show that the story of Faust
is inspired by the story of Adam and Eve.
What accounts for this story s persistence? I think it is because readers are gripped
by the fantasy of humans possessing divine powers, engaging in adventures and
magical exploits, and trafficking with the greatest of evils.
Many view the Faust tradition from the perspective of magus literature. Their
searches for Faust s beginnings often turn up magicians. The historical Johann
Faustus, a sixteenth century charlatan who wandered across Germany, who exercised
a minimum of pharmaceutical knowledge...with a maximum amount of malice, was
himself a magician.
E. M. Butler, in The Myth of the Magus, links Faust with a broad number of
magicians extending back to Moses and others. Other scholars, seeing the Faust
legend as a Christian story, seek Faust s roots in a more limited way. Here the
consensus identifies Simon Magus as the
Religion Should Not Be Allowed in Public Schools
While students are attending public schools they should be aware of their religion
options. The student should have the right to practice their religion as they please,
just on the own time. Yes, religion plays a huge part in molding a person but, should
be practiced when the time is available, not in a classroom setting. The government
should have the ability to control the protection of the students that just want to learn.
The capability to regulate the religious practices while attending public educational
institutions should be left to the government. Faith, religionand belief, usually are
three words that are used to describe one situation, although these words have three
different meanings. To have faith in something or someone you... Show more content

Thoreau wants everyone to have his or hers own voice. The importance of standing
up for what one person believes, even when everyone around that person states he or
she is wrong, is substantial to that someone s belief. Having the will power to show
courage is more than joining the majority.
Everyone in the United States has the freedom to religion, the freedom to believe
what he or she wants to believe in. In an article in USA Today, the opinions of
Senator Dennis Kruse, and Andrew Seidel, staff attorney for the Freedom from
Religion Foundation, were addressed. Sen. Kruse wrote a bill, seeking the Lord s
Prayer in public schools. The Senator writes this bill stating, school districts to
require the recitation of the Lord s Prayer, though individual students could opt out
if they or their parents preferred (USA Today). Senator Kruse allowed the option for
the students to partake in this prayer but still required it for all districts. Students
throughout the public school could feel uncomfortable and uneasy. What the Senator
fails to recognize is that all student are not aware of the meaning of the Lord s
Prayer, yet alone the religious connection that it represents. Mr. Andrew Seidel
expresses his concern about this bill by stating: Bullying is a huge issue in schools
right now, and to have students have to out themselves (by refusing to go along with
a prayer they don t believe in) is going to open the whole atheist community up to
bullying.

The Controversial Queen Mary I Queen Of England
Mary I Queen of England was a very controversial queen. She is remembered for
the prosecutions she set in place against the people of Protestant faith. When in
fact Mary I Queen of England was a good queen that suffered many hardships
through her early childhood, her fight for the crown, and even her life during her
reign. Mary s early childhood came with a mix of emotions from her father, King
Henry VIII. Mary was the first child to King Henry, he was very happy when she
was born in 1516 even though she was a girl. To show how much Henry loved
Mary he appointed four people from his staff to simple rock her cradle when she
was sleeping, along with other extravagant gifts, even though at the time Henry had

When the body notices the changes it will interpret it as a real pregnancy and will
start to release hormones familiar with pregnancy, making you believe you are
pregnant. New research is starting to show that a women with many relationship
problems can be at a higher risk to have a phantom pregnancy. This is a good
explanation as to why Queen Mary had at least two phantom pregnancies. She had
such a complicated relationship with her father, and she was in great need for an
heir to the throne, she could have convinced herself she was pregnant. She also
had a very complicated relationship with her husband, who only came to England
when he had to. He was not in love with Mary like she was in love with him. He
was very unpopular in England and he knew no one liked him. The people knew
that a relationship with Spain meant war with France, and England did not want
that. Mary s emotions controlled her political obligations, knowing she should
have chosen another husband to avoid war with France, but her feelings for Philip
overtook her control. While she was in the midst of her phantom pregnancies, May
was still trying to restore the Catholic faith in England. Mary believed that the way
to do this was to charge the Protestant rulers with crimes and burn them at the stake.
As a result over 300 people were burned at the stake, she also had to take care of the
people who tried to keep her off the throne in the beginning. In January 155 John
Hooper, John Rogers and John Cardmaster, were arrested and burned at the stake
after refusing to stop their crimes against the crown. She did however find Jane
Grey guilty of treason but refused to kill her, instead she was kept in a tower until
her death. After she heard that there was an attempt to place her sister Elizabeth on
the throne, Mary arrested Elizabeth and placed her at Woodstock. She was in
disgrace with the queen until April 1555 when Mary wanted

pleasure in their acceptance of God, Aquinas maintains that perfect happinessis
distinct from this, both in what it entails and how it is achieved. Aquinas believes
that humans cannot be entirely happy until fully understanding God, the original
cause of their own being, which is impossible until reuniting with God in life after
death. Humans cannot be truly happy until their intellect is fulfilled, which is only
possible through understanding God. The human intellect instinctively seeks to
understand the cause of things, and will not be satisfied simply knowing that such a
cause exists (S.Th. II, Q.3, A.8). Aquinas is optimistic about the ability of human
reason, and believes that unassisted logic can reveal and defend crucial platforms of
the Christian faith, such as God s existence (S.Th. I, Q.2, A.2). God is demonstrated
fore mostly through His creations, including humans themselves and their intellects
(S.Th. I, Q.2, A.2). Since every effect depends upon its cause, (S.Th. I, Q.2, A.2) a
human s awareness of their own life on earth subsequently proves the life of some
entity which has caused the human to be. Aquinas, and the Christian faith, identify
this original cause as God. However, Aquinas acknowledges that there is a

Characteristics Of The Human Auditory System
The human auditory system is one of the most complex and remarkable systems of
the human body. Without all components working in a harmonious manner, a person
can easily become alienated from society. There are four key areas that one needs to
understand in order to comprehend how an individual is able to hear. They include
the outer, middle, and inner ear as well as the central auditory nervous system. The
collaboration of all of these components allow humans to hear sound. One of the most
important concepts to understand, before delving into the anatomy of the human ear,
is what exactly individuals are receiving as the signal that is commonly referred to as
sound. Although there are many definitions for sound, it can be easily understood as
a disturbance in an elastic medium that propagates through the medium in a
longitudinal motion (Darrow 2017). This disturbance occurs in the form of
vibrations. The three characteristics of a sound include intensity, frequency, and
duration, which all play an integral part in how an individual interprets a sound. The
first area that a sound arrives at in its journey to be perceived is the outer ear. At this
point, sound is being transmitted in terms of acoustic energy. The outer ear consists
of two major parts, the pinna and the ear canal. The pinna serves as a funnel, where
several of its cavities act as sound enhancing mechanisms. The ear canal acts as a
quarter length resonator. What this means is that it enhances
Large Bathers
Art is always evolving with the people causing the styles and technique. In the 1900s
style of paintings started to change dramatically. The colors got brighter and the lines
became more curved, images started to become more abstract. This changed the
meaning of the paintings to be a more imaginative and creative. Cezanne and matisse
were to artists that painted in the 1900s and they changed with the times. The two
paintings The Large Bathers and The Joy of Life are different but also have some
similarities.
In The Large Bathers the colors are dark, they are sitting around a pond, and it is a
large group. Since the colors are very dark and cold it makes the people seem
distant. This makes the people go away from us and the blues to stand out. All of the
people are sitting around a pond washing cloths. This gives the image a focal point in
the center of the painting. It draws your attention to what the people are doing and
how they are interacting with each other. The emotions on the peoples faces are
very sad and not upbeat, they do not seem to be having fun and enjoying their time.

Intelligent Design Research Paper
Keep Intelligent Design Out of Schools The theory of intelligent design states that
there are some organisms that are too complex to have evolved into their current
state. This theory is a thinly veiled jab at the theory of evolution, which is the most
commonly known theory of how life today came to exist. While some people would
like to see the theory of intelligent designintegrated into schools, it has no place in a
classroom. The reason for the theory of intelligent design is born from people s lack
of understanding of how evolution, natural selection, and adaptations have worked
together over centuries to create life how it is seen today. Most of the skeptics of
evolution find ground in their argument in religion, though this hardly... Show more

Some of these include the claim that there is a large controversy in the scientific
field over this issue. There is no large controversy between scientists on this matter,
as most scientists realize that this so called theory is untrue. The first flag that
pops up for a scientist when learning of intelligent design, is the that this cannot be
tested. There is no evidence of this, and there is no way to look for it. Then the fact
that any data that has been collected can be used to support the theory of evolution
is a further sign of intelligent design being false. There is no data that has been
collected that would disprove evolution and support intelligent design. The reason
that intelligent design can t be proven straight forward is because of the fact that it
relies on a supernatural creator. If there was a method of testing that could be
developed to look for this, then there might be grounds for such a theory. Even in
the case that there is a way to test for such a type of being, this theory still wouldn t
belong in a classroom. Science is the study of the material world, which excludes all
talk of mystical beings and religion. It is through the scientific method and other
processes that phenomena are proven or disproven, so that the smallest amount of
assumptions can be made. This is what keeps science purely fact, and from being
over come by false theories and corrupted
Sexual Offenders Is The Most Vilified Type Of Offenders...
Sexual offenders are the most vilified type of offenders within public opinion and
the criminal justice system. The American precedent cases of Jacob Wetterling, Pam
Lyncher, Megan Kanka, and other notorious crimes perpetrated by sexual offenders
with a prior history of conviction have demanded a response from the criminal
justice system to increase public safety. In 1994, the Jacob Wetterling Crimes
against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Program was passed
(Scholle, 2000), the first piece of legislation to advocate for the development of state
maintained registries of convicted sexual offenders. The legislation has been
amended numerous times since then; in its present state, the law requires all states to
maintain a registry, the mandatory registration of convicted sex offenders after
release, community notification laws in place, and public access to the registry
(Burchfield and Mingus, 2012; Lees and Tewksbury, 2006; Petrunik, Murphy, and
Fedoroff, 2008; Scholle, 2000; Tewksbury and Lees, 2006; Wagner, 2011).
Sex offender registry laws were intended to increase public safety and to reduce the
reoffending rates of sexual offenders. However, this paper will argue that registration
has no effect on recidivism rates and that the law actually negatively impacts
rehabilitative goals because of the unforeseen issues stemming from registration. An
analysis of the existing body of literature concerning registration from the United
States will address the
Who Was Responsible For Alan Brig s Death
What is Enigma? It is a mysterious thing that is hard to understand, even if
possible. During World War II, Alan Turing took on the mission to break the code
that so many people in Britain thought was impossible. Even though Alan Turing s
childhood was full of misery, he was able to break a seemingly unbreakable code,
and became a war hero by saving countless of lives during World War II. Alan
Turing had a hard life in his childhood. His parents did not take care of him because
they were always on the move. Instead, they put him and his older brother in the
care of people willing to take care of them. While in elementary school, the young
Turing boys were raised by a retired military couple ( Notable Mathematicians ). Of

During World War II, the Germans used a type of code that is almost impossible to
break. They used this code to communicate between each other and would get
directions of where to go and also state where their locations are through that code.
What made that code unique was the way that they used it. The way their code
worked would be that someone would write a letter in a machine, and then the
machine would print a coded version of the message. But that was not the worst part
of it. At the end of every day, they would change the key to the messages, all at the
same time in a synchronized manner. The way that the Enigma machine was built
made it even more complicated to understand. There are approximately
150,000,000,000,000 that is, 150 million million possible combination (Claire Ellis

Bacterial Vaginosis ( Bv )
Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is a medical condition that is not widely known or

about by either the public or the medical field. I state this bluntly because I suffer
from
Bacterial Vaginosis, rather I suffer from reoccurring Bacterial Vaginosis. Generally,
women who
have an infection caused by BV are prescribed a gel medicine and within 5 days they
no longer
have the infection. However, there is a small percentage of woman who have BV
reoccur after
treatment, for some the reoccurrence and symptoms only gets worse. BV is the
change from a
Lactobacillus dominant vaginal microbiota to an anaerobic and facultative bacterial
dominance. (Bacterial Vaginosis: A critical analysis of current knowledge, 2016) BV

infection caused when too much of certain bacteria change the normal balance of

Bacterial has
the prefix of Bacteri/o, which means Bacteria or for singular bacterium. The suffix

Essay On The Maze Runner
The Maze Runner
The Maze Runner is about a boy named Thomas that is deposited in a community
of boys after his memory is erased; soon learning they are all trapped in a maze.
Wes Ball directed the Maze Runner. It is an Action, Mystery, Sci fi movie. The
goal of the movie is to escape the Maze to complete the trials. Grievers are in the
maze to prevent the characters from making it to the end of the maze. There were
many heroic scenarios on the adventure to the end of the maze. Thomas by far is
the most heroic. He runs into the maze breaking the rules to save some people that
are not about to make it out in time. Thomas also go s out with Minho to find the
exit and tricks a griever into being stuck in between two walls closing and the

Gettysburg Address Failure
Today, the Gettysburg Address is praised for being one of the most renowned
speeches in U.S. history, but despite its fame, it was not always viewed as being a
complete success. It is important to realize that the views from the 1860 s were
very contrasting to those of today, including how people viewed Lincoln and his
speech. One newspaper article from the time period puts this into perspective. The
Harrisburg Patriot Union Newspaper company wrote an article Tuesday, November
24th of 1863 recognizing the silly remarks of the President (Pengelly). It also goes
on to note that, ... for the credit of the nation we are willing that the veil of oblivion
shall be dropped over them and that they shall be no more repeated or thought of
(Pengelly). In general, the article basically mocks the president, specifically noting
how short and pathetic his speech was. Furthermore, many others at the time had felt
the same way about the speech, suggesting that Lincoln s Gettysburg Addresswas
nothing but a failure.
However, this viewpoint evolves over time. A prime example of... Show more

Lincoln s view by saying, If all men are created equal, they cannot be property. They
cannot be ruled by owner monarchs. They must be self governing in the minimal
sense of self possession (Wills 120). Lincoln not only wanted citizenship for the
slaves, but also equality in across the board. Whereas for the South, the equality of all
men would bring their biggest nightmare to life; African Americans being considered
equal to themselves. Furthermore, they didn t want to see those who they viewed as
lower than themselves to rise above them, and granting the freedmen citizenship

Hedge Funds Essay
Hedge Fund Policy
What makes a hedge fund such a unique investment? And why is it so
controversial? Many feel the risks of a hedge fund strongly outweigh its benefits.
And with some funds, it does. But when a hedge fund strives, it has impeccable
potential. It is arguable that the regulation on hedge funds, or lack there of, is what
allows for so many to falter. However, despite various suggestions for policy
changes, a few lemons still remain. Would changes in policy and regulation of a
Hedge Fund allow it to be a more attractive investment opportunity? Although some
alterations could make the hedge fund a safer investment, some risks are completely
unavoidable. Ultimately, these changes may not only create more problems, but also

And investors in the final hedge fund strategy, global asset allocation, invest in
currencies, commodities, equities and debt around the world. There is no such thing
as an average hedge fund. Because of different strategies, along with various
management styles, there is an extremely wide array of hedge fund returns.
Although they have potential for large profits, hedge funds are exposed to a number
of risks. Factors such as leverage, portfolio concentration, and liquidity may make
hedge funds riskier than other investments like bonds or mutual funds. The name
hedge fund was thus derived to avoid, or hedge, some of these risks. This can be
done, for example, by shorting stock or selling put options.
Alfred Winslow formed the first hedge fund in 1949. He believed he had a better
system for managing money, which included selling short stock to protect against
market risk and borrowing money to boost the potential return on assets. In 1952,
he later limited his partnership and charged incentive fees for his management.
The success of his new idea caught on, and by 1966 there were nearly 200 hedge
funds. Good management skills were proved to be an essential factor in the
survival of the hedge fund in the decades to come. Many leveraged long, in
particularly risky and uncooperative markets, which led to only 68 identifiable hedge
funds in 1984. However, as new ideas were developed, such as investing in the
currency markets or using futures and options,

Spike Jonze s Where The Wild Things Are
Where the Wild Things Are, a movie by Spike Jonze, based on the original novel

critic wrote that, The beasts are recognizable from Sendak s pages, but Jonze gives
them names and distinct personalities that connect to aspects of Max s psyche and
to the people he loves. (Freud would adore this movie) . The Times critic s bold
speculation of what Freud s opinion would have been towards this movie begs an

The parallel to this visual in Max s dream is the sailboat Max rides to reach the

the blue ocean mirrors his blue blankets. Another, more significant, dream
instigator that occurs numerous times throughout the dream is variations of the

controlling his actions, after an altercation with his sister he walks downstairs to
find his mother with a man. Max gets angry and jealous of the attention this
stranger is receiving from his mother and climbs onto the table in his wolf costume

Comparison Of Genesis 1 And Ancient Egyptian Creation
Myths
Jia GuoBen Smuin Section A02 Critical Reading Assignment July 14th, 2015
Summary of Genesis 1 and Ancient Egyptian Creation Myths In the feature article
Genesis 1 and Ancient Egyptian Creation Myths, the scholar Gordon H. Johnston,
identifies the relationship between Genesis 1 and ancient Egyptian cosmogony by
analyzing the parallels, similarities, and differences with respect to literature and
theology. In order to verify Genesis 1 corresponds with Egyptian creation myths from
the literary perspective, Gordon indicates three parallels between Genesis 1 and the
Egyptian creation traditions: lexical, structural, and thematic. (Johnston 182)
Furthermore, Gordon makes a thorough exploration in theology since he detects the
numerous parallels... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, Gordon believes lexical parallels exist in both Genesis 1 and Egyptian
materials in light of the equivalent expression in the beginning , in which means the
moment of the creative activity begins. (Johnston 183) Second of all, Gordon
clarifies that Genesis 1 and Egyptian mythic cycles share structural parallels. In
specific, Hermopolis constructs a similar storyline with Genesis 1, and Memphis
also applies to Memphite theology as well as Genesis 1. (Johnston 182 184) Third of
all, Gordon illustrates Genesis 1 conceptually parallels with Egyptian creation due to
the numerous thematic parallels. More specifically, the tradition of Hermopolis
shows the birth of sun god is later than the emergence of supernatural light, and
Genesis 1 concretely expounds the fact that God created the light on Day 1 and sun
not until Day 4. (Johnston 187) Nevertheless, Gordon queries himself that the literary
parallels are not occasional because both Genesis 1 and Egyptian creation myths are
originated from some of the real historical connect . Hence, he generates the literary
parallels cannot be the decisive factor to determine the relationship between them.

Hijab In North America
With the recent interest of the media on the topic of hijab and the oppressive symbol
that it is portrayed to be, I have decided to write my paper on the hijab and what it
means to various Muslim women. This topic is important and worth studying
because most of the information that is relayed about the hijabby the media is not
based on the opinion of Muslim women who actually wear the hijab in North America
. Currently, feminists around the world have started a campaign for a #nohijabday.
Although this movement initially began in order to speak out against the Iranian

the Muslim women as it lays down the tone of interaction with other people as well

as it exerts a moral demand upon others with the expectation that they will be valued

African Elephant Impact On Animals
Out of the 8.7 million types of species on Earth, 5,689 of them are endangered.
That only seems a tiny number compared to all of the species on earth, but what
would happen if all of those 5,689 species were to die? The African Elephant is the
largest land animal on Earth, weighing up to 6 tons and growing as tall as 10 feet.
They are mostly known for their giant ivory tusks that they use for digging, fighting,
and foraging. We happen to see their ivory tusks as a way to make money. The
African elephants habitat/lifestyle and features are not the reason they are

male elephants tend to roam in herds and leave their family behind. The elderly

Reaction Paper On Preposition
Preposition is a part of a sentence. Without a preposition, a sentence may not carry
any meaning even. A sentence may fail to give its complete meaning without a
preposition. It is the most commonly used functional word in sentences. A
preposition is placed anywhere in a sentence. According to the rules of forming a
sentence, a sentence does not end with preposition. The usage of preposition at the
end of sentence is not grammatically correct, still, it is used. It is permissible in the
modern times. A preposition that comes at the end of sentence is called stranded
preposition. No concrete and clear definition can be given for each preposition
except for a few. Most of the time, the meaning of prepositions can only be inferred...

modifier. (I.e. as an adjective or as an adverb)
e.g.

The word preposition has its origin from a Latin word praepositia meaning placed
before that is pre positioned. It is placed before a noun, a pronoun, or a phrase. It
shows or explains its temporal or logical relationship of an object (a noun, a pronoun,
or a phrase)
with some other noun or pronoun or adjective or phrase in sentences. Preposition tells
or gives the information or idea on the relationship between nouns or pronouns or
something else. It tells, in what relation a noun or a pronoun stands in regard to
something else in a sentence.
The cat is under the table.
Here the preposition under is placed before the noun table and explains in what way
the noun cat stands in relation to the other noun table, in other words, the preposition

How Child Protection Legislation Has Changed Social
Policy...
The last 50 years has seen a growing public concern for the protection of children
against mistreatment, highlighting the need for government and non government
services to create legislation to protect and prevent children from harm and neglect
(Tomison, 2001). This essay attempts to examine how child protection legislation has
manifested in social policy and the ideological pressures that have influenced this
change. Furthermore it will discuss what knowledge/skills or values an expert social
worker needs to have when working effectively in child protection services.
The Child Rescue Movement
In the United States during the 1870 s, the case of a ten year old Mary Ellen is
widely accepted as the catalyst for the creation of laws to protect children from
maltreatment by caregivers (Lamont Bromfield, 2010, pp1). Mary Ellen was a
victim of ongoing physical abuse by her adoptive mother. Concerned neighbours in
the apartment that Mary Ellen resided in with her parents had contacted an
organization for refugee services to advise of the mistreatment of the ten year old
girl. When representatives from the organization visited the apartment, they found
the little girl in a horrible state with clear signs of abuse and neglect. Whilst there
were no laws in place to protect children from such abuse, the matter was brought
before the courts that stated that Mary Ellen was part of the animal kingdom and
since there were laws protecting animals from cruelty, the case was proved and

There have been many criminal cases in the history, which brought controversy,
whether murder could be justified under different circumstances. One of the famous
cases tells a story of four shipwrecked men, which were lost in the high seas. The
story was named The Lifeboat Case , regarding the tragic and life changing decision
that was made in extreme circumstance. Four seamen, Thomas Dudley, Edward
Stephens, Brooks and seventeen year old Richard Parker were in high seas and due to
the storm that hit them very bad, they had to put themselves into an open boat. They

As the ship started to sink, men barely managed to get into a lifeboat and by the
time they were trying to save their lives, all of supplies of water and food were
gone. Professor Teuber clarifies it, saying: Unfortunately, the emergency supply of
water that they had hastily thrown overboard next to the dinghy was swept away
by the waves (people.brandeis.edu). Since Teuber acknowledged that Dudley was the
captain of the ship, it might also be the reason of why all decisions were made by
Dudley. He might have felt himself responsible for men s life and tried to save as
much as he could, by sacrificing one. One of the details Teuber mentioned was that
the rest of seamen were rescued by a German boat, called Montezuma , which was
heading home from South America. As soon as they delivered men to Falmouth
and started questioning them, it was clear that they have committed a crime.
However, Brook s name wasn t mentioned as one of the prisoners throughout the
story. And Teuber reveals the reason, saying: The upright Dudley immediately
insisted that he was the ringleader and that Brooks was completely innocent
(people.brandeis.edu). So that s why Brooks played as a prosecution s witness.
The most remarkable situation in this case, was the peace between Dudley and the
Richard s brother Daniel Parker. He even came to court and shook Dudley s hand.

Patient Protection Affordable Care Act in March 2010, employers are having to re
evaluating how and if they will be provide health benefits to their employees (Grant
Thornton LLP, 2013). According to Dunn, Kirsschner, Livingston (2014) the PPACA
has created new complications into collective bargaining negotiations over health
insurancebenefits. Especially in firms like GMFC which employs a large numbers
of workers (50,000) who must now comply with federal statutes delegated by the
PPACA (Dunn, Kirsschner, Livingston, 2014). According to Grant Thornton LLP
(2013), Employer sponsored health care plans have been one of the major sources of
health insurance in the United States and cover an estimated 149 million people (p.
3). Additionally, the use of health care plans in benefit packages has been a critical
factor for employers in recruiting and retaining quality employees (Grant Thornton
LLP, 2013).
Impediments for GMFC
In previous years, many firms struggled to control the escalating health insurance
costs while trying to shift the increasing portion of those costs onto their employees.
Unfortunately, after PPACA passed, these challenges only became amplified and
forced employers to reassess their company s health benefits and bargaining position
on health benefits for their employees. GMFC is also feeling the same effects and
consequently their management team must now develop and

Critically evaluate, in relation to the common law duty of care, the liability of
employers for references. How, if at all, does the liability of a university (such as the
University of Sussex) differ regarding references given to potential employers in
respect of current (or former) students.
Employers have a certain degree of liability when making statements in a former
employee s reference. Employees and employers have a duty of care, to provide
valid descriptions of an individual s quality and potential as a former employee, and
thus a reasonable reference is, truthful and fair. It is up to employers to thus avoid

Itwas decided that if the representor gave information or advice which was
negligent he would be liable for any pecuniary or personal damage caused 5.
However the appeal was dismissed due to the fact that with the absence of a contract
or fiduciary relationship the defendant that used a disclaimer would owe no duty of
care.6 The case was significant in that claims on negligent misstatement could work
if; there is a special affiliation among parties, the information provided by a party has
a voluntary assumed risk, the plaintiff has to deem the information reliable, and
finally the reliability of the information must be applicable.
In Caparo Industries plc v Dickman7, it was determined that courts had to test the
duty by whether the damage was reasonably foreseeable, whether there was a
relationship of proximity between claimant and defendant, and whether it is just and
reasonable to impose a duty. 8 If so, then a duty of care could arise.
Spring v Guardian Assurance plc9 is key for this discussion. The claimant won the
case on grounds of the defendant s negligence .10 The defendant owed the claimant a
duty of care in terms of providing a reference. However, there was a partial split in
decision between the judges on the defendant s rejection of liability towards the
reference. The Hedley Byrne fundamentals of proximity argued the case focused on

The 1960s: A Generation of Change
Popular Beliefs
When you think of the 1960s, what comes to mind? Many people think the era of
drug abuse and peace signs. The 60s were the beginning of hallucinogenic and
barbiturates, which were considered psychedelic drugs. Psychedelic drugs cause a
change in cognition and perception, which became popular in hippies, also referred
to as a flower child. They were characterized by free sex, drug abuse, and rock and
roll music. These people were free spirits that lived through peace and love. During
this time, free sex was promoted and monogamy was rare. In addition, the 1960s was
the start for the Beatles. The Beatles were a popular rock and roll band from England
who were very popular in the hippie community. ... Show more content on

During his presidency, he successfully took the United States out of a recession,
established the Peace Corps, avoided a nuclear war during the Cold War and
contributed to the treaty to end the Cold War. He also helped to pass the Equal Pay
Act of 1963, which required employers to pay men and women equally for doing
the same work (nolo.com). This was a big step for equal right for women. JFK was
also assassinated in 1963 in Dallas, TX during a presidential motorcade in Dealey
Plaza. After his assassination Lyndon Baines Johnson became president and was
mostly known for his Great Society social service programs, finishing the civil rights
act of 1964 and expanding U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War
Empathy, An Essential Concept For Nursing Practice
Empathy is defined as the ability to communicate an understanding of a client s
feelings, and is a crucial component of the helping relationship (Boggs. 2011,
p.106). Empathy is an essential concept to nursing practice as it allows the nurse to
gain perspective in order to provide appropriate actions and interventions significant
to that patient s individual experience. In Tilda Shalof s A Nurses Story , the author,
a registered nurse in the intensive care unit (ICU), struggles with a particularly
difficult patient case and must reflect upon her own values and subsequent
judgments in order to provide adequate nursing care. Empathy provides the nurse
with the perspective that is necessary to consider the most appropriate actions and
interventions significant to a patient s individual experience (Boggs. 2011, p.107).
Failure of the nurse to empathize with a patient can result in a strained therapeutic
relationship as a result of providing inadequate emotional support and client
education (Boggs. 2011, p.107). In providing empathetic care it is important to
mentally picture the client s situation and perform self checks, thereby assessing for
personal bias and stereotypes (Arnold. 2011 p. 84). Additionally, there are multiple
barriers to providing empathetic care, which include lack of time, lack of trust, lack
of privacy, and lack of support, amongst others (Boggs. 2011, p.115). The use of
empathy within nursing practice requires the use of three major skills, which
Political Contexts And Constituents
Chapter 6 Political Contexts and Constituents This chapter discusses the topic of
politics and reviews the reasons a superintendent must become political. According to
Johnson (1996), Politics is central to the work of today s superintendents, who cannot
succeed as educational leaders without also being active political leaders. They must
build coalitions, negotiate agreements, and force concessions when necessary all
without hitting political land mines that may cost them ground (p. 153). Proper
funding is vital to the existence of any district. Superintendents are often required to
rally for funding and support. In districts where the majority of the taxpaying
population does not have children and/or grandchildren in the school... Show more

The primary reason is that I have grown very weary of the day to day politics that I
see in our country. I have been very distrustful of all politicians, particularly in the
area of education. I wanted my superintendent, elected or appointed, to be as far
away from the political circus as possible. After reading this section, I realize that
is impossible. As much as it saddens me, school districts have no choice but to play
in the political arena. Based upon this, I will lend my future support to leaders like
Cronin. Since my district still elects the superintendent, I will look for a candidate
who is adept at maneuvering through political situations with the best interests of
the district at the forefront of his or her mind. Also, I now realize I will have to
become more political myself if I ever desire to apply for a superintendent

Courage Essay To Kill A Mockingbird

  • 1. Courage Essay To Kill A Mockingbird Crafting an essay on the theme of courage in "To Kill a Mockingbird" can be both challenging and rewarding. While the novel provides ample material to explore the various dimensions of courage, including moral courage displayed by characters like Atticus Finch and the children, Jem and Scout, it also demands a deep understanding of the historical and social context. The difficulty arises in weaving together the intricate threads of Harper Lee's narrative, analyzing characters' actions and motivations, and presenting a coherent and insightful argument. It's essential to go beyond surface-level analysis and delve into the subtleties of the characters' struggles, societal expectations, and the impact of racism on the display of courage. Moreover, striking the right balance between personal reflection and textual evidence requires finesse. One must avoid the pitfall of a mere summary of events and instead focus on the broader implications of courage within the novel, connecting it to broader societal issues and moral dilemmas. Researching scholarly interpretations, critical essays, and historical background adds another layer of complexity to the process. • 4. Of Cannibals And Thomas More s Utopia And Michel De Montaigne An ideal society is a model that strives to function the most efficiently. Both Thomas More s Utopia and Michel de Montaigne s Of Cannibals state the fundamentals of specific ideal societies. The differences in these perfect societies are driven by the principles they are based upon. More s society is based off cultural order while Montaigne s is based on natural order. The two foundations cause geographic, social, and political differences. Geographic differences include physical and human characteristics of a society. This includes where the civilization is located, and the specific features of each landscape. In Of Cannibals , the situation of their country is along the sea shore, enclosed on the other side towards the land, with great and high mountains, having about a hundred leagues in breadth between. (Montaigne 3). Similarly, Utopia s ideal society is also by the ocean but it is a crescent island, that is naturally protected by rocks that surround the island (More 49). While these locations may seem to offer similar advantages, More s island is specifically different because the maze of rocks that surrounds it. The reasoning behind this is to have the entrance to the island be a secret between the citizens. The added protection is a geographic difference that originates from cultural order. Another environmental difference between the societies is the development. Montaigne s civilization lacks all types of infrastructure except housing. He states their buildings are very long, and of capacity to hold two or three hundred people, made of the bark of tall trees (Montaigne 3). While these structures seem large, these are the only types of buildings they have, so overall the land is quite underdeveloped. On the contrary, in More s society There are fifty four splendid big towns on the island, all with the same language, laws, customs, and institutions. (More 50) In Utopia, there are excess buildings for commerce and government. These geographic disparities stem from the principles of nature and culture. The final geographic difference is in agriculture. In Of Cannibals there is no form of agriculture. The absence of cultivation is because the society does not encourage technological

The one thing they all share in common is the fact that how they display their heroes is a strong reflection of their culture during the time. Many of these heroes were displayed in similar ways, mostly based on the legend of King Arthur. In Le Morte D Arthur, various qualities of heroes and villains are displayed throughout the tale; consequently, having an influence on many other characters throughout history. The main characteristic of heroes in the legend of King Arthur was that they were deemed as very honorable. Each was constantly regarded a great amount of respect to the royalty. In one scene of Le Morte D Arthur, Sir Gawainis on his deathbed and is discussing with King Arthur about the turn of events that occurred and was blaming himself for what had happened. He states, My good uncle, it was my pride and stubbornness that brought this all about, for had I not urged you to war with Sir Lancelotyour subjects would not now be in revolt. (Malory 222). A quality of being honorable is the ability to admit to your mistakes and never place the blame on others. Even before dying, he is not angry at anyone else but his own self. By being so humble and taking the blame for his actions, Sir Gawain is exhibiting a great amount of respect and honor towards his king. Another act of honor in the story was performed by Sir Lucas, as he

Introduction During the First World War (1914 1918) The United Kingdom was one of the Allied Powers, fighting against the Central Powers (the German Empire, the Austro Hungarian Empire, the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Bulgaria). In 1914, British Army did not have the power to fight a major war on the continent, and throughout the course of military actions had to multiply in size fourteen times (Chandler/ Beckett 211). Nature of the conflict that forced reorganization of the British Army, including raising one of the largest all volunteer militaries in history, creation of the Royal Air Force, and use of conscription, as well as facing modern and far more brutal weapons resulted in tremendous changes in the British warfare. British commanders, experienced in fighting small colonial wars, had to quickly adapt to a very different set of circumstances. The end of War marked a decline in the respect of authority. Economical effects of massive casualties, during carnages like the Battle of the Somme (1916), became felt and evidences of Generals incompetence were brought to light (for example in 1927 publication of Lions Led by Donkeys: Showing how victory in the Great War was achieved by those who made the fewest mistakes by British Captain P.A. Thompson). The criticism intensified after the end of the Second World War, when massive sacrifices of the previous war were put in perspective. Advantages Of Brakes CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 INTRODUCTION TO BRAKES Brakes are mechanical devices that increase the frictional resistance that retards the turning motion that is supplied to the wheels of the vehicle. In a vacuum assisted hydraulic brake system, a constant vacuum is kept maintained in the brake booster using the engine. When the brake pedal is pushed down, a poppet valve opens and air pushes/rushes into the pressure chamber on the driver s side of the booster. In a vacuum braking system, vacuum is used for the application of brakes. Braking the train is a very complex process, particularly to rail vehicles and is of great importance because of essential contribution on the safety of the moving vehicle. The spice was a drug that could not be reproduced and only found on the planet Arrakis. Frank Herbert shows in Dune that there are products like the spice that large populations depends on. First, the Fremen on Arrakis heavily depends on the spice. The spice is in their everyday food and materials. They use the spice to make things such as spice paper, spice fibre, and chemical explosives. It is also in their food and drinks. Paul eats the two leaf wrapped morsels into his hand. They reeked of spice (Herbert 282). The people also drink spice coffee and spice beer (145). Since spice is so rare, it is also used as a currency against the Guild. The Fremen use the spice to bribe the Guild to keep [their] skies clear of satellites and such that none may spy what [they] do to the face of Arrakis. (283). It s the classic story of a man who risks hellfire by dealing with the devil for a brief, yet magnificent, period of otherworldly knowledge and power. This story has been rewritten and reformulated time and time again. I aim to show that the story of Faust is inspired by the story of Adam and Eve. What accounts for this story s persistence? I think it is because readers are gripped by the fantasy of humans possessing divine powers, engaging in adventures and magical exploits, and trafficking with the greatest of evils. Many view the Faust tradition from the perspective of magus literature. Their searches for Faust s beginnings often turn up magicians. The historical Johann Faustus, a sixteenth century charlatan who wandered across Germany, who exercised a minimum of pharmaceutical knowledge...with a maximum amount of malice, was himself a magician. E. M. Butler, in The Myth of the Magus, links Faust with a broad number of magicians extending back to Moses and others. New research is starting to show that a women with many relationship problems can be at a higher risk to have a phantom pregnancy. This is a good explanation as to why Queen Mary had at least two phantom pregnancies. She had such a complicated relationship with her father, and she was in great need for an heir to the throne, she could have convinced herself she was pregnant. She also had a very complicated relationship with her husband, who only came to England when he had to. He was not in love with Mary like she was in love with him. He was very unpopular in England and he knew no one liked him. The people knew that a relationship with Spain meant war with France, and England did not want that. Mary s emotions controlled her political obligations, knowing she should have chosen another husband to avoid war with France, but her feelings for Philip overtook her control. While she was in the midst of her phantom pregnancies, May was still trying to restore the Catholic faith in England. Mary believed that the way to do this was to charge the Protestant rulers with crimes and burn them at the stake. • 18. The Reasonableness Of Christian Faith Summa Theologiae was written to display the reasonableness of Christian faith and to train future teachers in guiding others through Christianity, (Lecture, 11.14.2016) whereby one ultimately reaches true happiness. While Christians steadily find pleasure in their acceptance of God, Aquinas maintains that perfect happinessis distinct from this, both in what it entails and how it is achieved. Aquinas believes that humans cannot be entirely happy until fully understanding God, the original cause of their own being, which is impossible until reuniting with God in life after death. Humans cannot be truly happy until their intellect is fulfilled, which is only possible through understanding God. The human intellect instinctively seeks to understand the cause of things, and will not be satisfied simply knowing that such a cause exists (S.Th. II, Q.3, A.8). Aquinas is optimistic about the ability of human reason, and believes that unassisted logic can reveal and defend crucial platforms of the Christian faith, such as God s existence (S.Th. I, Q.2, A.2). God is demonstrated fore mostly through His creations, including humans themselves and their intellects (S.Th. I, Q.2, A.2). Since every effect depends upon its cause, (S.Th. I, Q.2, A.2) a human s awareness of their own life on earth subsequently proves the life of some entity which has caused the human to be. Aquinas, and the Christian faith, identify this original cause as God. However, Aquinas acknowledges that there is a

  • 20. Characteristics Of The Human Auditory System The human auditory system is one of the most complex and remarkable systems of the human body. Without all components working in a harmonious manner, a person can easily become alienated from society. There are four key areas that one needs to understand in order to comprehend how an individual is able to hear. They include the outer, middle, and inner ear as well as the central auditory nervous system. The collaboration of all of these components allow humans to hear sound. One of the most important concepts to understand, before delving into the anatomy of the human ear, is what exactly individuals are receiving as the signal that is commonly referred to as sound. Although there are many definitions for sound, it can be easily understood as a disturbance in an elastic medium that propagates through the medium in a longitudinal motion (Darrow 2017). This disturbance occurs in the form of vibrations. The three characteristics of a sound include intensity, frequency, and duration, which all play an integral part in how an individual interprets a sound. The first area that a sound arrives at in its journey to be perceived is the outer ear. At this point, sound is being transmitted in terms of acoustic energy. The outer ear consists of two major parts, the pinna and the ear canal. The pinna serves as a funnel, where several of its cavities act as sound enhancing mechanisms. The ear canal acts as a quarter length resonator. What this means is that it enhances

If there was a method of testing that could be developed to look for this, then there might be grounds for such a theory. Even in the case that there is a way to test for such a type of being, this theory still wouldn t belong in a classroom. Science is the study of the material world, which excludes all talk of mystical beings and religion. It is through the scientific method and other processes that phenomena are proven or disproven, so that the smallest amount of assumptions can be made. This is what keeps science purely fact, and from being over come by false theories and corrupted
  • 23. Sexual Offenders Is The Most Vilified Type Of Offenders... Sexual offenders are the most vilified type of offenders within public opinion and the criminal justice system. The American precedent cases of Jacob Wetterling, Pam Lyncher, Megan Kanka, and other notorious crimes perpetrated by sexual offenders with a prior history of conviction have demanded a response from the criminal justice system to increase public safety. In 1994, the Jacob Wetterling Crimes against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Program was passed (Scholle, 2000), the first piece of legislation to advocate for the development of state maintained registries of convicted sexual offenders. The legislation has been amended numerous times since then; in its present state, the law requires all states to maintain a registry, the mandatory registration of convicted sex offenders after release, community notification laws in place, and public access to the registry (Burchfield and Mingus, 2012; Lees and Tewksbury, 2006; Petrunik, Murphy, and Fedoroff, 2008; Scholle, 2000; Tewksbury and Lees, 2006; Wagner, 2011). Sex offender registry laws were intended to increase public safety and to reduce the reoffending rates of sexual offenders. However, this paper will argue that registration has no effect on recidivism rates and that the law actually negatively impacts rehabilitative goals because of the unforeseen issues stemming from registration. An analysis of the existing body of literature concerning registration from the United States will address the

They used this code to communicate between each other and would get directions of where to go and also state where their locations are through that code. The way their code worked would be that someone would write a letter in a machine, and then the machine would print a coded version of the message. But that was not the worst part of it. At the end of every day, they would change the key to the messages, all at the same time in a synchronized manner. I state this bluntly because I suffer from Bacterial Vaginosis, rather I suffer from reoccurring Bacterial Vaginosis. Generally, women who have an infection caused by BV are prescribed a gel medicine and within 5 days they no longer have the infection. It is important to realize that the views from the 1860 s were very contrasting to those of today, including how people viewed Lincoln and his speech. One newspaper article from the time period puts this into perspective. Although they have potential for large profits, hedge funds are exposed to a number of risks. Factors such as leverage, portfolio concentration, and liquidity may make hedge funds riskier than other investments like bonds or mutual funds. The name hedge fund was thus derived to avoid, or hedge, some of these risks. This can be done, for example, by shorting stock or selling put options. Alfred Winslow formed the first hedge fund in 1949. He believed he had a better system for managing money, which included selling short stock to protect against market risk and borrowing money to boost the potential return on assets. In 1952, he later limited his partnership and charged incentive fees for his management. The success of his new idea caught on, and by 1966 there were nearly 200 hedge funds. Many leveraged long, in particularly risky and uncooperative markets, which led to only 68 identifiable hedge funds in 1984. First of all, Gordon believes lexical parallels exist in both Genesis 1 and Egyptian materials in light of the equivalent expression in the beginning , in which means the moment of the creative activity begins. In specific, Hermopolis constructs a similar storyline with Genesis 1, and Memphis also applies to Memphite theology as well as Genesis 1. (Johnston 182 184) Third of all, Gordon illustrates Genesis 1 conceptually parallels with Egyptian creation due to the numerous thematic parallels. More specifically, the tradition of Hermopolis shows the birth of sun god is later than the emergence of supernatural light, and Genesis 1 concretely expounds the fact that God created the light on Day 1 and sun not until Day 4. Hence, he generates the literary parallels cannot be the decisive factor to determine the relationship between them. (Johnston

Empathy, An Essential Concept For Nursing Practice Empathy is defined as the ability to communicate an understanding of a client s feelings, and is a crucial component of the helping relationship (Boggs. 2011, p.106). Empathy is an essential concept to nursing practice as it allows the nurse to gain perspective in order to provide appropriate actions and interventions significant to that patient s individual experience. In Tilda Shalof s A Nurses Story , the author, a registered nurse in the intensive care unit (ICU), struggles with a particularly difficult patient case and must reflect upon her own values and subsequent judgments in order to provide adequate nursing care. Empathy provides the nurse with the perspective that is necessary to consider the most appropriate actions and interventions significant to a patient s individual experience (Boggs. 2011, p.107). Failure of the nurse to empathize with a patient can result in a strained therapeutic relationship as a result of providing inadequate emotional support and client education (Boggs. 2011, p.107). In providing empathetic care it is important to mentally picture the client s situation and perform self checks, thereby assessing for personal bias and stereotypes (Arnold. 2011 p. 84).
