This document provides an overview of a workshop on copyright and digital content. It discusses several key topics:
1. It defines copyright, fair use, public domain, and Creative Commons licenses.
2. It identifies the rights afforded to copyright holders under copyright law, including the right to copy, distribute and adapt works.
3. It explains the concept of "fair use" and open educational resources (OERs) which are educational materials shared freely under an open license.
4. It provides a framework for analyzing any copyright problem by considering whether a work is protected, if exceptions or licenses apply, whether it qualifies as fair use, and if permission is needed.

There is a significant trend towards blended learning across the globe because of its potential to increase learning effectiveness and flexibility for the learner. In a blended and flipped course, teaching methods and learning activities for the face-to-face and online components need to be considered.

For a long time we treat our classroom as our "secret garden". Nobody really knows what's going on in the classroom. Everything that happens in the classroom is between the teacher and the students within the confine of the physical boundary of the classroom. Now educators have the opportunity and platform to reach out global learners via MOOCs — Massive Open Online Courses.
In the last few years, Apple's iPad has emerged as a powerful tool for engaging students in the classroom and for educators to produce teaching and learning resources. As the iPad continues to evolve along with other mobile media devices, the way educators teach and the way students learn will significantly change for good! However, while the iPad is brilliantly designed and easy to use, most people, including educators, are only harnessing a small fraction of the productive potential of the device. With all of the amazing apps available and the ever-faster network connectivity, educators can do much more with an iPad than they can with a laptop.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Is the work I want to use protected
by copyright, or is it in the public

intended use to the publisher?
Abd Karim Alias@2016
21. Is there a specific exception in copyright
law that covers my use?
Is my intended use covered by a
specific exception to the exclusive
rights in the copyright law, such as

Is there a license that covers my use?

23. Is my use covered by fair use?
The purpose and character of the use,
including whether such use is of a
commercial nature or is for nonprofit

The nature of the copyrighted work;
The amount and substantiality of the

copyrighted work as a whole;
The effect of the use upon the
potential market for or value of
the copyrighted work.
Consider….
Abd Karim Alias@2016
24. If so, first locate the copyright owner
and fully explain your intended use in
your permission request.
If no response or answer is no,
reconsider your use of this work to
see if you can make a fair use, or
consider using another work.
Do I need permission from the copyright owner for my use?

25. 6 Tips for Legally Using Images
Assume all images are
protected by copyright.
Purchase images from
stock photo agencies and
follow the license terms.
Use and re-use
images which have a
Creative Commons
(CC) license
When possible,
use photos that
you have taken
yourself.
Always less risky to link
to a photo or other
image
When you seek permission
from the copyright owner of
an image, always ask first if
they actually own the
copyright in the image.
