A manager has to perform interrelated functions in the

made up of different interlinked and interdependent
subsystems.
It is the common thread that runs through all activities
such as purchase, production, sales, and finance to
ensure continuity in the working of the organisation.
2. Coordination is sometimes considered a separate
function of management. It is however, the essence
(important quality) of management, for achieving
harmony among individual efforts towards the
accomplishment of group goals. Each managerial
function is an exercise contributing individually to
coordination. Coordination is implicit and inherent in
all functions of an organisation

Coordination is “integration of the activities of individuals
and units into a concerted effort that works towards a
common aim.”
Co-ordination harmonizes and balances conflicting
opinions of individuals and departments, promotes group
effort and directs their movement in a unified direction —
the organizational goal
For example, if production department does not coordinate
its activities with the sales department, production may be
more or less than the required sales.
