INTRODUCTION
Cooling towers are used in a variety of
application, from the 400 foot tall tower at nuclear
power plants to small 4 foot cooling boxes used by
neighborhood dry cleaners. The most common use in
large building central cooling systems, but also use for
refrigeration, old storage facilities, dry cleaning,
medical equipment, manufacturing and industry.
Cooling tower are generally the most efficient means to
remove large amount of heat from air an equipments.
Unfortunately, cooling tower use large amount of
water when properly maintain and can waste greater
amounts of water when not maintain properly through
wasteful practices, an efficient equipments and leaks .

working PRINCIPLE OF COOLING TOWER
Hot water close into the main collector of
water separator. Next ,it is distributed through a
piping system to sprinkling nozzles. Nozzle
dissipate the water jet on drip block of the
weight deck, forming a water film with a large
surface area of contact. Water falling from the
lower edges of the drip elements of the weight
deck falls as rain to the bottom collection basin
from where it is pumped back to the cooled
equipments. The cooling of water is mainly due
to the evaporation of a small portion of cooled
stream of water into the flowing air stream,
using the latent heat collected from the stream
and to a lesser extent due to convective heat
transfer from the water to air.
ADVANTAGE
• Reduced field cost : With single point wiring and
factory testing, evaporating cooling towers provide
reduced field costs.
• Design flexibility: At cooling technology, we may
design these to be stacked or split into two section
and for indoor or outdoor location
• Quiet operation: Evaporating cooling tower operates
at level less than 50 Dba
• Windows based control: This control system provides
a complete status, history, trending and dynamic
graphics.
• Ease of use: CTIs evaporate cooling tower offers a
controller with a single function keypad with display
in simple nontechnical terms.
DISADVANTAGE
 The quality of the circulating water that is removed to
maintain the amount of dissolved solids and other
impurities at an acceptable.
 Water droplets that are carried out of the cooling tower
with the exhaust.
 Equipments containing a complex system of baffles
designed to remove water droplets from cooling tower
air passing through it.
 The sound generated by the impact of falling water, the
movements of air by fans, the fans blades moving in the
structure and the motors, gearboxes and drive belts.
 The stream of saturated exhaust air leaving the cooling
tower. The plume is visible when the water vapors it
contains condenses in contact with cooler ambient air.
CONCLUSION
The different types of cooling tower-wet, dry and
hybrid- have been presented. Research and experience
show that the hybrid cooling tower conform well to the
stringent environment protection requirements and to the
standard operation reliability set for the cooling system, it
is expected, therefore, that they will become more
widespread. Different methods to estimate cooling tower
performance are presented, based on some assumptions
that simplify the problem. As the systems get more
complicated, however CFD is capable of predicating
performance and can be used as the soles basis of design
or it can be used to modify and improve exiting simpler
methods to make them closer to reality.

  • 4. INTRODUCTION Cooling towers are used in a variety of application, from the 400 foot tall tower at nuclear power plants to small 4 foot cooling boxes used by neighborhood dry cleaners. The most common use in large building central cooling systems, but also use for refrigeration, old storage facilities, dry cleaning, medical equipment, manufacturing and industry. Cooling tower are generally the most efficient means to remove large amount of heat from air an equipments. Unfortunately, cooling tower use large amount of water when properly maintain and can waste greater amounts of water when not maintain properly through wasteful practices, an efficient equipments and leaks .
  • 6. working PRINCIPLE OF COOLING TOWER Hot water close into the main collector of water separator. Next ,it is distributed through a piping system to sprinkling nozzles. Nozzle dissipate the water jet on drip block of the weight deck, forming a water film with a large surface area of contact. Water falling from the lower edges of the drip elements of the weight deck falls as rain to the bottom collection basin from where it is pumped back to the cooled equipments. The cooling of water is mainly due to the evaporation of a small portion of cooled stream of water into the flowing air stream, using the latent heat collected from the stream and to a lesser extent due to convective heat transfer from the water to air.

ADVANTAGE • Reduced field cost : With single point wiring and factory testing, evaporating cooling towers provide reduced field costs. • Design flexibility: At cooling technology, we may design these to be stacked or split into two section and for indoor or outdoor location • Quiet operation: Evaporating cooling tower operates at level less than 50 Dba • Windows based control: This control system provides a complete status, history, trending and dynamic graphics. • Ease of use: CTIs evaporate cooling tower offers a controller with a single function keypad with display in simple nontechnical terms.
  • 8. DISADVANTAGE  The quality of the circulating water that is removed to maintain the amount of dissolved solids and other impurities at an acceptable.  Water droplets that are carried out of the cooling tower with the exhaust.  Equipments containing a complex system of baffles designed to remove water droplets from cooling tower air passing through it.  The sound generated by the impact of falling water, the movements of air by fans, the fans blades moving in the structure and the motors, gearboxes and drive belts.  The stream of saturated exhaust air leaving the cooling tower. The plume is visible when the water vapors it contains condenses in contact with cooler ambient air.
  • 9. CONCLUSION The different types of cooling tower-wet, dry and hybrid- have been presented. Research and experience show that the hybrid cooling tower conform well to the stringent environment protection requirements and to the standard operation reliability set for the cooling system, it is expected, therefore, that they will become more widespread. Different methods to estimate cooling tower performance are presented, based on some assumptions that simplify the problem. As the systems get more complicated, however CFD is capable of predicating performance and can be used as the soles basis of design or it can be used to modify and improve exiting simpler methods to make them closer to reality.
