Conventional energy sources include fossil fuels like coal, petroleum/oil, and natural gas as well as firewood. Coal is a black-brown rock that is abundant and produces much of the world's electricity but is also dirty and harmful. Petroleum is a liquid fuel found underground that is used for gasoline and plastics. Natural gas provides energy for heating, electricity, and vehicles. Firewood is a renewable resource that is traditionally used as fuel but causes air pollution.
