The document discusses the creative decisions made by FlowMotion Films regarding the conventions and techniques that will and will not be used in their upcoming music video. They plan to stand out by not including typical performance scenes and instead focusing on developing a narrative storyline. Their video will also emphasize thematic music and include visually stylish effects to attract viewers, while avoiding less common conventions like experimental camera techniques that may not appeal to their target teenage audience.
2. â˘Some of the most common types of music videosâ are those which
include Performances through them. This is very common
convention in most music video, and because of this, we have
decided not to use this.
â˘We have decided that we will try and stand out from the crowd,
and we plan to do this by not including any performance scenes,
but just include a narrative side of the music video.
⢠We also decided not to include performances through our product
simply because we have limited time to create the music video, and
including performance techniques, such as lip-syncing is quite time
consuming.
3. â˘Another common type of music video is narrative. This is when
there is a storyline included in the music video, and is told either by
the lyrics in the song itself, or the acting done in the music video.
⢠This is because we have come up with our own ideaâs, and
because of this, we have decided that rather include performance,
we will be creating our own narrative storylines.
⢠This will also mean we are able to change the song meaning into
something else by changing the narrative storyline, and because of
this, choosing to do narrative can be very effective.
4. â˘Throughout our music video, we will not mainly be using symbolic
imagery and references. This is because our video will be very
action packed, hence not focusing on specific things, like roses or
blood, and because of this, no connotations will be able to be
made.
â˘However, despite this, there will be slightly hint of emotional
imagery, and we will do this to make the views feel and shed
feelings and emotions, causing our music video to be a success and
an instant hint, as because of this, more people will be encouraged
to watch this.
5. â˘Our main music type for our product will be thematic. This is
because, as a group, we feel that this will be the best way to express
our excellent ideas and storylines to the viewers, and because of
this, the music video will be a success.
â˘The main themes we will be trying to portray through our music
product will be bravery, dedication, passion and commitment.
â˘These are all heavy themes, and will require lots action packed
scenes and sounds, and this is why we decided to choose this; as if
it is done successfully, it will be the main factor in attracting views.
6. ⢠Our music video will contain some elements visually stylish
techniques, and this will be done to excite and attract more views
and listeners to our main product.
â˘We decided to choose to include visually stylish effects was to
basically amaze the audience, and give our music video a USP
(unique selling point). The reason for this is the visually effects look
as they are an artistic version of mise-en-scene.
7. ⢠The music video we will be creating will contain one of most
common conventions used in music videoâs these days. This is
cutting to the main beat in the song from the start. We decided to
include this as an entire group, as we all felt that when new
listeners first listen to a new song, they instantly look and search for
a good beat. Hence, by including this in our product, we will gain
much more success.
â˘Also, we felt that using this technique, rather then aim for a certain
target audience, we could aim for a bigger and wider audience
group.
8. ⢠We will not be using this convention in our music video. Firstly, the
reason for this is because it is not very common in the music
industry world, and because of this, we are not sure if it would help
our video become a success or not.
â˘Also, since our primary target audience is mainly teenagers, aged
from 13 years olds to 19 year olds, we were not sure if the use of
experiments in camera and editing techniques would got down well
with them
â˘Because of this, we decided not to go with the risk, and decide not
to use this convention for our product.
9. ⢠We have also not decided to use the convention of the digital
effects in our music video. This is because, as mentioned in the
previous slide, this convention is not very common, meaning we are
not sure of its popularity within the music industry.
â˘Also, as our target audience is teenagers, this convention would
also, in our opinion, look immature, and not âcoolâ in our target
audiencesâ eyes, and because of this, we decided to leave it out.
