Why Should Teachers Get Paid More
Why Teachers Should Be Paid More Many people wonder if teachers should or should not get paid
more than they do. A lot of people believe that teachers should get paid more, but there are some that
do not. Parents that want their kids to have a good education want teachers to get paid more. For
example, P.V Derkachev said, ... teacher pay influences the quality of education. (Derkachev 574).
Teachers that get payed more would be more likely to perform better at their job and not mind the
extra time that they have to do stuff outside of work to get everything done. Matt Barnum said, Higher
salaries even small bonuses can and do keep some teachers in the classroom, and likely improve
outcomes for their students. (Barnum). The student is going to get taught better if teachers get paid
more because the teacher will want to teach at the best of her ability which will help the student.
Teachers should be paid more because They work outside of the classroom (Snyder). They have to
work on lesson plans, grade their assignment, tests, and quizzes (Snyder). In 5 Reasons Why Teachers
Need To Get Paid More, it says, If you take into account the average teacher s salary and the hours
they spend at work, they could probably make more money being an hourly wage employee. (Snyder).
They should be getting paid more because they do not get paid enough with how much they do outside
of work to be able to do what they do in the classroom. Teachers work very hard for what they do and
to get everything done. Another reason why teachers should be paid more is that We will have no
teachers (Snyder). Kasey Snyder said, No one wants to have a job that underpays and undervalues
them. A lot of people choice another path of career when they go to college instead of being a teacher
because teachers do not get paid enough. In Teachers Need a Raise, it says that young teachers are ...
more likely to cite low pay as one of the main drawbacks of teaching than older teachers and are also
more likely to leave the profession because of low starting salaries. (Partelow). People that want to be
a teacher end up not doing it for long in college and change their major or graduate and not teach for
long and go to school for

Benefits of Implementing Company Health Fitness Programs...
Workplace Benefits of Health and Fitness Programs
Furthermore, fitness programs can benefit companies far beyond a spending stand point. There are
many benefits of incorporating fitness into your daily routine, and some people are unaware of the
impact it can have on every aspect of their life. Making health and fitness a priority in your life can
result in dramatic change. Creating a healthy lifestyle through fitness and nutrition programs and then
following through on those programs with self assessment practices and goal setting techniques can
significantly decrease self defeating behaviors not only in the workplace, but in day to day life as well.
There are many different ways to get involved in fitness, and the benefits are well worth ... Show more

In addition, Memphis is among one of the most overweight cities in America, making it crucial that
we emphasize health and fitness in our businesses locally (Men s Fitness, 2014). Being overweight
causes a number of health issues such as high cholesterol, heart disease, and diabetes. This can cause
employees to miss work, drive up health care costs, and not be as productive when they are at work. In
addition, health and fitness programs can help employees who already have health problems return to
work sooner. For example, employees who have been diagnosed with heart disease and who
participate in an exercise program have returned to work much quicker, and in addition, the death rate
has also been cut down twenty to twenty five percent when employees engage in fitness routines
(Meyers, 2003). Therefore, beginning a fitness program can not only significantly decrease the
chances of someone obtaining one of these diseases, but can also decrease the amount of work they
may miss due to these illnesses; henceforth, increasing the overall health of the workplace,
productivity, and employee efficiency (Meyers, 2003).
Making a fitness program also has a great impact on team environments. Fitness programs will lead to
better morale, a more positive workplace, and an environment that will be more productive for all
employees and team members. Fitness programs present employees with team building activities such
as marathons, sprint

Texas Senate Research Paper
The Texas state legislature is responsible for addressing constituents interests and concerns. It is
composed of two chambers or houses: The House of Representatives (150 members) and The Senate
(31 members). House members serve for two years, each representing a district and 168,000 people. In
the other hand, Senators serve four year terms and represent approximately 811,000 constituents. The
Texas Constitution of 1876 mandated that requirements should be minimal, open to most citizens with
little or no training in politics. In order to become a member of the Texas senate, a senator must be
qualified to vote, a resident of Texas for five years and of the district for one year. House members

Grade Hierarchy Analysis Call Graph
According to Figure 2.8, node 7, node 8 and node 9 do not have any other predecessors except node 5
node 6 and by removing non instantiated methods they become head nodes. So, I should remove these
heads from graph and this new graph can be considered as RTA result for the given CHA Call Graph
(Figure 2.9).
Figure 2.9: The result of removing head nodes from graph
To clarify this approach, I will use the computed Class Hierarchy Analysis Call Graph from the first
example (Figure 2.6) and convert it to RTA. Since set of instantiated classes contains Class B Class C,
according to the algorithm, I have to remove node A.m( ).
Moreover, if I check Call Graph again, I will find that node Interface.( ) has a reflexive edge and it s
indegree=1 . Therefore, this node should be deleted as well.
Figure 2.10 illustrates a conversion from CHA to RTA:

2.3.3 Class Type Analysis (CTA)
CTA s main idea is narrowing down the set of reachable methods of a call site b.n( ) inside method
A.m( ) by keeping track of available target types within class A. Since CTA algorithm is refinement of
CHA and RTA, I can reuse CHA or RTA Call Graph result in CTA and decrease the set of reachable

CTA algorithm implementation has three phases:

The Egyptian Syrian Attack Of September 1973
Assess the reasons for Israel s unpreparedness for the Egyptian Syrian attack of October 1973
The Egyptian Syrian attack that took place on Yon Kippur is a hugely significant event in the history
of the Arab Israeli conflict. Often referred to as the trauma , the attack revealed a number of key issues
with regards to Israeli defence and intelligence that ultimately resulted in a severe lack of preparation.
Israel was unprepared for a plethora of interlinking issues that resulted in a series of fatal mistakes
with regard to intelligence and military preparedness. With regards intelligence, an entrenched and
overconfident conviction in the Concept blinded the Israeli s to the concrete evidence and
forewarnings of the Egyptian Syrian mobilization. The ingenuity of the Egyptian s was also crucial to
Israeli unpreparedness, especially the deployment of the almost certain double agent Ashraf Marwan.
The Concept is the first significant reason why Israel was grossly unprepared for the attack she did not
expect it and this was blunder of her own making. Upon official investigation into the errors of Israeli
preparation, the 1975 Agranat Commission highlighted Israel s Military Intelligence Directorate Aman
had persistently adhered to a single incorrect Concept regarding Egypt s attack capabilities,
disregarding other key intelligence as a result. This Concept was that Egypt would not wage war on
the Israeli s before she had, firstly, acquired long range attack

Google Answer to Filling Jobs
Introduction
Google used to look for people with straight A report cards and double 800s on their SATs to
determine if they would be a good fit for their organization but have since moved to more drastic
measures to ensure a good match between the employee and Google s high octane organizational
culture. Google has employed personality testing to help them make decisions about hiring by making
applicants fill out an elaborate online survey that explores their attitudes, behavior, personality and
biographical details going back to high school in an attempt to ensure a good PE fit with the
organization.

This is done in an attempt to increase productivity and reduce absenteeism and turnover. Employees
that fit better into the organization will have higher job satisfaction and commitment to their
organizations and lower intentions to quit when their personal characteristics and values match or fit
the job requirements.1 When the employee is a good fit it can help with the employees attitudes and
job stress.
Group Level of Analysis
Google was happy with the current culture and group dynamics and wanted to know how to ensure
new individuals would interact with the groups the same way. To accomplish this Google did a study
of the personality types that correspond to the leadership styles and level of results at the group level
they wanted to mimic. This was done by asking every employee who had been working at the
company for at least five months to fill out a 300 question survey. Afterwards Google created several
surveys they believe will help them find candidates in engineering, sales, finance, and human
resources. Using the personality test and comparing the results from people that already fit well in the
organization will help Google maintain or improve the group dynamics, reduce intergroup conflict and
result in better communication at the group level.

Museum of Modern Art in New York
Roxanne Briano The Museum of Modern Art in New York City is the world s leading modern art. Its
exhibits have been a major influence in creating and stimulating popular awareness of modern art and
its accompanying diversity of its styles and movements. The museum s outstanding collections of
modern painting, sculpture, drawings, and prints range from Impressionisms to current movements.
Moreover, there are exhibits of modern architecture, industrial design, sculpture, photography, prints
and electronic media. The museum presently has a modern art library of 300,000 books and
impressive collections of films that are shown regularly. The Museum is said to be the complementary

Barr submitted the concept of what was to become of the museum. It had to be organized as a multi
departmental structure each devoted for Architecture and Design, Photography, Film and Video, and
they should stand side by side with traditional arts such as Painting and Sculpture. Architect Philip
Johnson built on this idea. The multi departmental structure seemed to best fit with the burgeoning
International Style, a modernist architectural movement from which Philip Johnson belonged. In this
architecture, buildings are designed with simple geometric lines and clean, precise surfaces and with
minimum decoration. Walls are made almost entirely of glass, known as curtain walls a signature
Johnson was known for that are used to give the building a light and airy appearance.
The Museum of Modern of Art was the first to use the words International Style , which was a fitting
term to introduce modernist arts to the world. Johnson and another renowned architect Henry Russell
Hitchcock organized a major show under the title Modern Architecture: International Exhibition .
There they described the International Style that expresses several design principles, that concerns
with volume rather than mass and solidity, regularity instead of axial symmetry, and the proscription
of arbitrary applied decoration . Exhibits featured leading European and American architects,
especially the likes of Le Corbusier and Ludwig Mies van der

A Chemical Reaction By Light
Photocatalysis is the acceleration of a chemical reaction by light. The activity of these catalysts
usually depends on their ability to produce pairs of negatively charged electrons and positively
charged electron holes (electron hole pairs) on material surfaces, which is induced by light irradiation.
An electron hole is the absence of an electron from the full valence band. Furthermore, as light
interacts with matter in the form of energy packets, the photons, it excites an electron consequently
causing it to move to a higher energy orbital leaving a vacancy, a hole, in its previous position (ground
state orbital). The creation of these electron hole pairs brings about various chemical processes, such
as the formation of free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive chemical species, which may then
go on to give secondary reactions.
It is well documented that light energized, photocatalytic TiO2 is a safe, non toxic, anti oxidant that
produces hydroxyl radicals (OH ) that are remarkably effective in rapidly decomposing organic
compounds. When UV light is emitted on the titanium dioxide, electron are released. The electrons
interact with water molecules (H2O) in the solution, breaking them up into hydroxyl radicals (OH·),
which are highly reactive, short lived, uncharged forms of hydroxide ions (OH−). These agile
hydroxyl radicals attack the organic (carbon based) molecules from which most dirt and other harmful
chemicals are made of, breaking apart their chemical

Gilgamesh s Death Of Gilgamesh
In Tablet XI, Gilgamesh s mourning over Enkidu s death exhibits Gilgamesh s discontent and anger
towards his weakness and frailty as a human, but he discovers another route to acquire immortality at
the end. Gilgamesh travels to seek the answer to immortality from Utanapishtim, but Gilgamesh is too
weak to withstand the test of becoming immortal. Gilgamesh is an arrogant king, and worshiping gods
was prevalent during his lifetime. Although Gilgamesh is two thirds god, the one third god of him will
result in Gilgamesh dying from human delicacy. Following Enkidu s death, Gilgamesh travels in
search of the puzzling answer to immortality. He battles with the realization that he will one day suffer
death, like Enkidu. During this time, it was believed that when people die their spirits go to an awful
place. Death is not seen as peaceful. This could be why Gilgamesh presented feelings of extreme
discontent with the realization that he is not immortal. As Gilgamesh approaches Utanapishtim,
Gilgamesh expects to see a man that is godly and strong. Gilgamesh realizes that Utanapishtim seems
normal and frail like him. Gilgamesh was perplexed to realize that Utanapishtim was granted
immortality because there was nothing unique about him that Gilgamesh could see.
Because Gilgamesh is distraught over the realization that he will die one day, he inquires
Unanapishtim to reveal the secret of how he received the gift of immortality. Utanapishtim narrates

young poets and writers overwrought with the opportunity of their lives, and endeavored to capture its
girth through the honesty and vulnerability of their words. These young bohemians would later lead
the Beat Movement, which inspired young Americans throughout the county in their search for

Many found the bleakness and insignificance of modern society enough to merit both withdrawal and
protest.
Throughout On the Road, the influence of the Beat movement s ideals on Kerouac s writing is overtly
apparent. As the narrator meanders up and down the country, both the main characters , and the lone
hitch hikers they pick up contain an attitude of restlessness which can be seen in their actions and
speak. While hitching a ride from a farmer, as Sal and Dean prepare their story to tell the man, he
stops them simply asking, You boys going somewhere, or just going? This so elegantly captures the
internal state of the author coming out bluntly in the work. The beat idealism heavily places
importance on personal discovery in any way possible, not necessarily knowing what that path looks
like only knowing that you must travel to reach it. Kerouac was distraught with the complacency of
living in one place, and set out with no real place to go, and as he writes in response to the farmer we
didn t know the answer to the question, but it was a damn good question (Kerouac).

The Western Place By Maxine Hong Kingston
When Two Different Worlds Collide
Throughout the book, The Western Place , by Maxine Hong Kingston, there is a differential gap
between the two sisters who come from two different sides of the world. A lot of differences between
the two sisters and their personal lifestyles comes from one sister living in America as a Chinese
American and the other sister living in China. In the story Brave Orchid who is the sister that is brave,
outspoken, and sometimes cruel sees life as a bundle of opportunities to take with no regret. However,
it is different when her sister Moon Orchid comes into town from China because she is the complete
opposite. Moon Orchid is rather humble, timid, and quiet while she observes the lifestyle of her sister
and nieces and nephews. In the chapter , at The Western Place , Brave Orchid sends for her sister
Moon Orchid to come to America and to confront her husband who is living another life and is
remarried. However, conflict arises as the two sisters have complete opposite thoughts and
personalities. Brave Orchids whose name completely describes her urges her sister to visit her
husband. However, while Moon Orchid is completely fine without her husband, she feels pressured by
her sister to do what was asked of her. While Brave Orchid is the complete package of what a chinese
woman and her traditions would represent while living the American lifestyle Moon Orchid is rather
surprised by the actions of her sister and nieces and nephews. For

Theories About The Etruscans
The Etruscans were a people steeped in mystery that thrived in Tuscany, most of the information we
have about the Etruscans are from indirect sources, either from Roman historians, the same Roman
historians that helped erase most of Etruscan culture, or Ancient Greek historians who some believe
didn t culturally grasp the different cultural values of their society. There is no concrete theory of
where the Etruscans originated but they lived between the 7th and 3rd centuries BC. An mtDNA study
completed in 2013 stated that the Etruscans were most likely an indigenous population. Another study
completed six years earlier in 2007, hypothesized that they showed no similarities genetically to
specimens from the near east, which vaguely could disprove one of the two most popular theories
about the Etruscans heritage. Regarding the Etruscans there are two theories that hint towards who
they were, and where they came from. The most accepted theory on their origin essentially states that
the Etruscans were native to Italy and had been there for a considerable ... Show more content on

Numerous things point towards this theory being correct. Firstly, the originality of the Etruscan
language and manner of living were so great that historians hypothesize that they were so different
than languages and manners of living that they couldn t have hailed from a different culture. Bonfante,
a historian, stated in 2002 as follows ...the history of the Etruscan people extends ... from c. 1200 to c.
100 BC. Many sites of the chief Etruscan cities of historical times were continuously occupied from
the Iron Age Villanovan period on. Much confusion would have been avoided if archaeologists had
used the name Proto Etruscan .... For in fact the people ... did not appear suddenly. Nor did they
suddenly start to speak Etruscan. Another elaboration of the theory states that the Etruscans formed in

Gender Subjectivity, By Judith Butler
Gender subjectivity is another important aspect of the debate around gender because it focuses on a
move away from the idea of innate sexual identity characteristics that divide human beings into male
and female (Encyclopedia of Critical Psychology, 2014). This type of view challenges the essentialism
of sexual difference into something more then a binary between male vs. female, heterosexual vs.
homosexual, etc., as it recognizes that these dichotomies are problematic because the term of gender
encompasses a whole range of identities across a spectrum. In particular ideas like what does it mean
to be equal? (Butler) and seeing division of gender into binary conceptions of identity can be seen as a
process of othering (de Beauvoir) are some of the areas that this topic examines.
Undoing Gender by Judith Butler This book features a collection of Judith Butler s essays and her
primary intention with this collection is to focus on the question of what it might mean to undo
restrictive normative conceptions of sexual and gendered life (12). These essays look at the
construction of gender and the way certain conceptions of it are normalized and reproduced in
potentially harmful and limiting ways. Butler uses a feminist poststructural framework to critique the
normalizing/marginalizing views of gender that exist because the terms that make up one s own
gender are, from the start, out side oneself, beyond oneself in a sociality that has no single author (and
that radically

probability, and there are some conspiracy theories confuse the direction of conditional. Then it tells
that Richard price created actuary science, however, the wise way is updating posterior probabilities
after evidence and prior probabilities, and it is important to ask the rate of false positives for
diagnostic tests. People must know how false positive rate compares to the true prevalence of disease,

Catullus Poetry Analysis
A less theoretical definition of poetry is, putting the best words in the best possible order. A poet may
incorporate the theory as follows. The poet may astutely choose words possibly with a double
meaning in order to indirectly convey a message, evoke emotions, or to slander. Then, the poet may
unconventionally place such words and phrases perhaps out of expected order for the sake of creating
a word picture, emphasizing the speaker s feelings, or offering tangibility to the poem. By
implementing this idea onto poetic works, the poet will have auspiciously written a superb poem. This
theory may be applied to a few of Catullus s poems specifically Carmen 5 , Carmen 8 , and Carmen
85. Catullus s meticulous choice of words and arrangement highlight the central focus of the poem,
obliquely criticize traditional Roman law, manipulate the audience s attitude, transmit the speaker s
emotions, paint word pictures, and offer symbolic meaning consequently producing a successful
poem. For starters, Carmen 5 is an amorous poem Catullus wrote directed at his forbidden lover,
Lesbia. Catullus insists they should disregard the rumors of old men, because while the sun is able to
return, they only have one life to seize. Therefore, Catullus demands hundreds and thousands of kisses
in a jumbled up manner from Lesbia, so their ardent passion cannot ever be cursed by the wicked
ones. The strategic placement of the words let us live and let us love literally place Lesbia as the
central focus of the work. In the original Latin text, the opening line reads as, vivamus, mea Lesbia,
atque amemus, which the words vivamus and amemus enclose Lesbia and thus point to her as the
center of the poet s life and love (Fredricksmeyer 436). It suggests Catullus viewed Lesbia as much
more than an erotic, love poem topic. Evidently, the poem is enhanced through Catullus placing the
best words in the best possible order, because the main subject of the poem is intentionally given
significant importance.
Furthermore, in Carmen 5 Catullus chose the best words, when describing the people, whose
comments he and Lesbia should not be concerned about as sour old men (Gregory, L. 2). The actual

Description Of A Photo Is Itinerant
Itinerancy is a word that implies movement from place to place. To say a photo is itinerant is to
acknowledge its ability to travel. Imagine a post card sent from Mykonos, decorated with the Greco
roman architecture and Mediterranean beaches, as it arrives at someone`s snow covered mail box in
Colorado. The displaced images on that post card bears different meanings to the persons receiving
them. Memories and histories, specific to an ever increasingly foreign place and time, travel inside
and with images, waiting to be uncovered and dissimilated. The Photographs ability to travel
geographically prevents it from remaining fixed in any location. Images have an innate propensity to
escape the confinements they have been created in and flee to new unfamiliar places. Photographs
spore like pollen as they voyage around the globe leaving traces of themselves behind. Arts and all
other forms of works about or inspired by original images are vessels, carrying in them a soup of new
and borrowed ingredients. The various ingredients flavor each other and result in new altered
carnations of the referent ingredient/works. Printed texts in literature can capsulate the many aspects
of an images existence, giving photos new and sustained life through alternate modes, forms and
mediums. Captions, for example, identify and date photos. Captions paired with photographs prevent
the photos from being so easily swept into the abyss of meaningless images. Critics who write

Delta Airlines Weaknesses
Weaknesses The airline industry is extremely competitive and there are constant struggles to maintain
a low cost fare that can compete with other companies such as JetBlue and Southwest. This has
proven to detract from Delta s success throughout the years due to continuous attempts at market

U.S. bankruptcy court for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The plan for Delta was to continue with its normal

Proven Benefits Of Optimism
The Proven Benefits of Optimism
Being optimistic does not consist in seeing things in a blind and blissful manner but instead from their
most favorable angle. It is all the more in your interest to be optimistic since you will derive many
advantages for your body and soul.
See your glass half full
Launching a project or seeing a situation from its most favorable angle does not mean that you are
unaware of all the positive and negative directions this project or situation can lead you to. It simply
means that you have resolutely chosen to see a given situation from its most positive angle.
By merely seeing things in a positive light, you increase your motivation, your dynamism and your
chances of success.

Repercussions on your health
There is another benefit to being optimistic: it leads to a better state of mind. It is proven that
optimistic people have a better state of mind than pessimistic people.
A more optimistic state of mind reinforces your immune system. It has been observed that pessimistic
people have poorer health due to their low morale.
Here are the other advantages of being optimistic: great joie de vivre, better social life, greater stamina
and increased life expectancy.
Optimism, a complete sport
For all these reasons, it is recommended that you be optimistic in a realistic manner. Do not refuse to
see the drawbacks of a specific situation. Instead, tackle it in a positive way.
In a way, optimism can be considered as a complete sport since it requires the total involvement of
your body and mind, which influence each other generating common and mutual benefits.
So, take the plunge without hesitating and follow the path leading to optimism to succeed in life!

Canadian Landfills
Canadians create a lot of waste. In 2008, Canadians produced over 1,031 kilograms of waste per
person and overall sent approximately 26 million tons of waste for disposal to landfills or incinerators.
The good news is the amount of materials diverted, using recycling and other diversion methods,
increased by about 10% to almost 8.5 million tons during the last decade compared to an increase of
3% for total solid waste. Total current expenditures on solid waste management by local governments
in Canada cost us approximately$2.6 billion in 2008. The majority, around $1.1 billion, was related to
collection and transportation. Aside from using less, there are a number of reasons to process what we
do use in different ways that are more economical and often profitable.

The Case of American Apparel(a Clothing Manufacturer)
Two Practices in Business related to the topic from Business Magazines. The case of American
Apparel(a clothing manufacturer): Charney squarely declares : I ve had relationships, loving
relationships, that I m proud of. I think it s a First Amendment right to pursue one s affection for
another human being. And he is talking about his staff. He has admitted to having numerous love
affairs with colleagues in the past. He is even known to work at office dressed in nothing other than
underwear. This attitude in fact percolates to American Apparel s culture, is almost second nature for
most of the employees and is visible even in the decor of its stores. The stores white walls are dotted
with product shots. Like the company s signature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though not a legal requirement for any business(yet), these programs do tend to serve as an assurance
in the minds of the employers that should there be a case of sexual harassment at work, they do have a
recourse, a channel to address it. And to protect them in case a lawsuit is filed. Some reports suggest
that sexual harassment cases are increasingly on the rise. Not only this, the reports also suggest that
the harassment has reached the higher levels of management, as in the case of American Apparel.
Keeping this in mind, it becomes all the more imperative and necessary for a firm to adopt a sexual
harassment prevention policy. It is imperative that an employee is provided a safe and comfortable
environment to work in. In Sexual Harassment in the Workplace: A Primer , Barry Roberts and
Richard Mann recommend that businesses need to understand sexual harassment; communicate a
policy; enforce a policy; establish procedures; and enforce policy. In that respect, a sexual harassment
training program plays an all important role. For a policy or set of grievance procedures to be
effective, all employees, from supervisors to line workers, administrators to custodial staff, need to be
knowledgeable about the company s policy and grievance procedures. Sexual harassment training
needs to be very explicit in

Things Happened Before The Industrial Revolution
Industrial Revolution Essay
When you look at the world today you see all the factory´s, manufacturing, and technology all around
you. These things would not have happened without the industrial revolution. I´m here to talk about
all of the changes that happened in the industrial revolution. Things like farming, factory and
manufacturing, and communication and transportation.
One of the biggest changes was farming, it was a huge thing before the industrial revolution. It just got
better after. One of the big inventions was the steel plow. The midwestern soil was to thick for normal
iron plows. John Deere made the steel plow to cut through that soil for more farming land. Another
invention was the mechanical reaper. This made farming faster by having the crops mechanically
harvested. That let the people who had to harvest them by hand able to do something else. The
mechanical reaper was invented by Cyrus McCormick, in 1831 it was a big step in the farming
industry. Finally the threshing machine, is a piece of farm equipment that threshes grain, it removes
the seeds from the stalks and husks. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first invention was the steamboat. Before the steamboat everyone had to use the a boat with a sail
or paddle. The first successful steamboat was the Clermont, which was invented by Robert Fulton, in
1807. His invention made traveling on the water much faster than ever before. Another invention was
the telegraph. The telegraph was a to communicate with someone long distance. It worked by
transmitting electrical signals over a wire laid between stations. The telegraph was invented by
Samuel Morse in 1791. Finally the next improvement was all of the roads and canals being built. They
made roads out of crushed stone so that it was easier to travel around. Canals made shipping things
across the states so much easier, you could send something from Ohio to Virginia so much faster than

Betterhelp Vs Face To Face Therapy
Formed in 2013, BetterHelp is an online counseling service that connects independent counselors,
social workers, and marriage and family therapists to clients in need of services. According to their
website, BetterHelp is the largest online counseling platform worldwide and their aim is to adapt
traditional counseling into the lifestyle and expectations of today s consumers (BetterHelp, 2016).
Clients are able to receive counseling messages from professionals using technology such as
computers, tablets, and smart phones. BetterHelp s online counseling services have similar benefits to
face to face therapy, but they do not substitute traditional face to face therapy in every case

explains their service as a marketplace in which listeners are notified of an incoming request. The first
listener to respond is the one who works with the client (7 Cups of Tea, Frequently Asked Questions,
2016). This setup can be particularly helpful for clients who are in immediate need of someone to talk
to. Unlike the other site, clients who engage in services through 7 Cups of Tea are immediately put in

Philip Graham Ryken Chapter Summary
I like and enjoyed reading on Philip Graham Ryken writing from a very conservatives point of view
and his encouragement to the readers to return to the pillars of faith the church once held dear (in the
first century).
Ryken starts his book with an introduction to postmodernism and identifies these post Christian times
as being characterized by relativism and narcissism which is pretty much true in these modern days.
From a very conservative point of view Ryken said in order to fight against these modern day
contemporary churches which are being characterized by relativism and narcissism and to be a remedy
to society, churches need to return to the model of the 1st century church a church that was modeled
on teaching, worshiping and caring.
Agreement: I am in very much agreement with Ryken s identification on seven objectives for the
church: expository preaching, worthy worship, Bible study and fellowship, pastoral care, educational
programs, missionary work and service to the church and community. Each of these objectives forms a
chapter in the book. I enjoy reading and learning from each of the chapter and appreciate very much
for the author s characterization on church and works. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

about the individual. Church becomes a place where needs are met rather than a place where God is

Pros And Cons Of Leggings Against School Dress Code
Leggings should not be against school dress code. For one they don t show any skin and are 100
percent appropriate for school. Number two they are super comfortable and girls should have the right
to feel comfortable. Lastly they are already allowed at Staunton River Middle School so they should
just make it permanent since there aren t any problems. Here are more details... First, they re very
school appropriate. They show no skin. They re basically like jeans just more comfortable. Sometimes
leggings are more appropriate than jeans considering most don t have huge holes or holes in general.

A Report On Auto Maintenance
When it comes to auto maintenance, your tyres are one of, if not the most, vital components of your
vehicle. You might be thinking, Harjeev, everyone knows this already , and you re not wrong. Yet,
despite this being largely common knowledge amongst drivers, a majority of auto owners across the
world tend to delay or neglect their maintenance altogether. According to TyreSafe s 2015 Tyre Safety
Month study 65% of UK drivers (out of 102,000 tyres they surveyed) needed to check their treads
more often. Not only does regular service and maintenance reduce your service costs, as scheduled
maintenance outweighs large repairs, it impacts your safety. TyreSafe s study painted a potentially
frightening image of UK roads with over a quarter of tyres (27.3%) having an illegal tread depth of
1.6mm or less. That s 10 million tyres in 2015 alone that were potentially illegal! If that didn t catch
your attention, maybe the penalty will. In the UK, you could face a £2500 fine and three penalty
points per illegal tyre on your vehicle! Imagine how much you could have saved when comparing the
price of new tyres against potentially £10000 in fines. Let s delve into why you cannot put off your
tyre care. If you aren t maintaining your tyres, expect to see a decline in your vehicle s braking,
cornering and gas mileage while your CO2 emissions go up. Just think, neglecting your tyres affects
everyone s safety, your wallet and the environment in one fell swoop! Let s pretend that wasn t

Mitchell And Trenchard s Influence On The Development Of...
National security requirements exercised the most significant influence on the development of
airpower in Europe and the United States before the Second World War (WWII), because nations on
both sides of the Ocean had to cope with the multifaceted disastrous results of World War I (WWI)
and airpower seemed to be the answer for future wars. Primarily, understanding the context and
consequences of WWI is vital to apprehend airpower theorist like Douhet, Mitchell and Trenchard and
their revolutionary thoughts on airpower. The development of aircraft in the at the beginning of the
twentieth century challenged not only military leadership but national security of modern states. The
basic question was: How will aerial bombing of enemy territory fit ... Show more content on

He was mainly influenced by the ideas of airpower from the Italian General Douhet. Likewise, he
postulated the potency of airpower and considered as the most decisive element in future wars.
Further, he argued, that airpower would make Army and Naval forces almost superfluous. The United
States, other than Great Britain, had a different perspective of its geopolitical situation. Because of the
two Oceans on either side of their country, felt they could afford to be more complacent about
developments in aviation. Although General Mitchell was a strong proponent for strategic bombing
American airmen had a more distant perspective on bomber aircraft and the use in future wars. But,
both, British and American airpower theorist believed that bombers are an offensive weapon.
According to the American national security guideline bomber aircraft, especially shortly after WWI,
would be employed as a defensive weapon. Mitchell argued, that airpower, by making wars shorter,
would offer a way around the stalemate and slaughter seen in the Great war. This clearly underpins
how Mitchell visualized and enforced national security requirements. Similar to the British reaction to
the rise of Nazi Germany during the mid 1930s, Congress endorsed increasing expenditures for the US
Army Air Corps: From 30 million in 1935 to over 83 million in 1939. Additionally, key actors

Vertical Structure
Courtney, your discussion board post covered all of the questions thoroughly and accurately. The
exchange of information among organizational employees is vital for an organization to succeed
(Cabrera Cabrera, 2002). In reference to your analysis of shared information, you correctly pointed out
how the structure, tasks, strategy, and culture of performance and learning organizations are very
different from one another. The performance organization is designed with a chain of command or
hierarchy (Daft, 2013). The vertical structure makes the organization more rigid or inflexible than the
loose or flexible culture found in a learning organization. According to Daft (2013), vertical linkages
are not sufficient for most organizations today (p. 133). A performance organization with a vertical

However, it is interesting that you believe non profit managers do not need to pay more attention to
stakeholders than business managers do. It is true that non profit organizations are not organized for
the sole purpose of making money, but non profit organizations are still required to pay employee
salaries and other business expenses. In other words, non profits are still accountable to their
respective stakeholders. Marshall and Woodward (2004) postulate that, It would also be reasonable to
speculate that the number of stakeholders that a non profit organization must take into account is
greater than for profit organizations (p. 101). Your statement that non profits should be managed in a
way which places ethics or the needs of others ahead of a profit is correct. However, non profit
managers must find a balance between the needs of others and the organization s need for positive
cash flow. Many non profits would not exist without the support of their stakeholders. Non profits

Roman And Greek Gods And Goddesses In The Modern World
Another important contribution to our modern world is Roman Greek gods and goddesses because of
its impact by helping the world with inventive names, gorgeous religious temples and even the
Olympics. Ancient Greece invented the Greek gods to make sense in the world, for example, how was
the earth made, why seasons change etc, for example, to explain why Greece only had three seasons
summer, winter spring. People came up with the story of how (the god of the Underworld) Hades
created winter by kidnapping Persephone (goddess of springtime and flowers). Many structures,
company s products are named after many Greek Roman gods like Apollo 69 (rocket ship), statue of
liberty (modeled after the goddess Libertas), Nike (shoe brand), Pandora (Jewelry), Amazon (online
shopping website), Saturn (car company) Dionysus Wine Spirits (wine company) etc. A lot of Roman
names were used to be the names of planets, some were used for modern things like cereal (Ceres),
volcano (Vulcan), Mars chocolate bar (Mars) etc. Speaking of names, Roman gods were originally the
Olympian gods, who had their names changed because the Romans wanted to claim them as their
gods. Each Greek god and goddess s name were changed to fit their roman form, for example, Zeus
got changed to Jupiter, Demeter to Ceres, Hera to Juno, Hades to Pluto, Artemis to Diana and many
more other ones. Since the Greeks have an abundant amount of deities, it most likely they have a vast
amount of temples to worship their gods and goddesses. Some Greek gods and goddesses are
considered patrons of city states in the land of Greece, for example Helios (original god of the sun)
patrons glorious Corinth, while Ares (god of war) patrons murderous Sparta, Athena (goddess of
wisdom), patrons the great city of Athens. The ancient Olympics were created in honor of Zeus (god
of the sky and lightning), where city states compete for laurel wreaths to gain honor for their city
states. The ancient Olympics was considered a men only thing (because men competing were nude), a
bit like young woman serving at the temple of Vesta (Greek form Hestia), where they had to keep a
flame alight or face the consequences and be buried alive, otherwise they brought honor to their

Levee Case Study New Orleans
Define and analyze the problem
New Orleans was built on a risky location. According to Lalwani, Khagram, Evans, Jackson, and
Lindenber (2007, p1), New Orleans was built on a natural levee adjacent to the massive Mississippi
river that was not embayed and therefore not protected from flooding. When French colonizer, Jean
Baptiste La Moyne, Sieur de Bienville, founded New Orleans in 1718, it was considered a
strategically significant port of trade between North America and the rest of the world due to the
Mississippi River and its vast network of tributaries (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p1). On the other hand, the
city s first chief engineer, Del la Tour, and geologists Kolb and Van Loplin found the site unsuitable
for a city because the threat of flooding (Lalwani, et al., ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believed that the creation of more levees would force the Mississippi into a single channel
resulting in the river forming a deeper channel (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). Forshey surveyed the levee
system, found there to be more than 847 miles of levees along the Mississippi, and suggested the
creation of 159 more miles of levees to fill in gaps between the existing levees (Lalwani, et al., 2007,
p4). The basis of the exclusive creation of levees proposal is the river naturally forming a deeper
channel as a result of the levees. On the contrary, Captain Andrew A. Humphreys and the U.S. Corps
of Topographical Engineers refuted the assertion that the levee system allowed the river to deepen its
channel. He said that hard clay prevented the current from scouring the river bed, and eventually
levees would result in raising the river. However, he also admitted that by careful management, levees
could be built to withstand flooding from the river, (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). Levee exclusive
approach could work but there are many concerned with its ability to

Australia s Emergency Medical Services
Like many countries, Australia s emergency medical services started out as just people transporting
sick and injured patients to the hospital. This service evolved along with technology and time. In the
1960 s, the defibrillator made its way onto the ambulance, and the CPR technique was developed
(Tintinalli, Cameron, Holliman, 2010). This new cardiac care soon spread all over the world and is
perhaps the beginning of what we recognize now as emergency medical services. Soon ambulance
personnel was required to learn more than just basic first aid. This personnel was responding to
emergency calls and providing medical treatments as well as transportation to the hospital. The EMS
service has continually evolved with new technology and the ... Show more content on

The paramedic will interpret the EKG and other vitals to make a determination of the appropriate
intervention based on a set of predetermined criteria to reduce the pain and minimize the chance of the
condition worsening. The emphasis for the paramedic is to treat the current symptoms and not concern
themselves with the underlying issue as to why the patient may have developed chest pain.
The website About.com defines clinician as Anyone who has patient care responsibilities. It usually
means a physician, but there are other healthcare professionals who can also be considered clinicians,
such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Unlike the paramedic that must operate under
predetermined protocols, a clinician has the knowledge to use judgment to look at the factors that have
influenced a patient s illness or injury. Instead of just giving nitro to treat the chest pain, the clinician
has the duty to recommend a course of preventative measures such as diet, exercise, and perhaps
prescribe a daily dose of aspirin.
Currently, in Australia, paramedics are required to have a bachelor s degree to work as paramedics.
This degree changes them from technicians to clinicians. This new requirement required a change in
both education and culture. To change the culture, the importance of education had to occur within the
field of paramedicine (Escott, 2016). To change the culture around the profession, respect for the job,
knowledge, and

Analysis Of The Sum Of Our Follies
The Sum of Our Follies (2014) is a recent Malaysian fictional work written by Shih Li Kow. It is a
regional piece a addressing the most conspicuous thrillers of place s meaning and literary imagination.
The story hinges upon several episodes in a small town called Lubok Sayong and other replaces.
Furthermore, the plot includes a number of perennial actions which perpetuate the token of proximity
shared by the lives of Lubok Sayong s inhabitants who reciprocate their visions in an agnate
perspective on life. It is an inherent call for the common sense of human individuality in a collective
place uniting different ways of life. These people are the authentic human phenomenon in a fictional
setting. In fact, the story depicts real life images, such as contemporary Malaysian peripheries; and
challenged once again by socio cultural apathy, the specter of the story s fictional pluralism and the
affectionate buoyancy of Shih Li Kow who seems particularly instructive (Cross, 2006: 49).
The novel tells the story of a middle aged man called Auyong, or the narrator, and an orphan girl Mary
Anne. Auyong leaves his city and job as a supermarket manger in order to work in the town s lychee
canning factory. This circulates his destitution as a human being seeking perfection ... Show more

Compare And Contrast The Garden Of Love And Harwood
Compare the techniques that the poets you studied this year use to explore the idea that truly
significant battles are fought within oneself.
Differences in people s opinions can cause major conflicts, however fighting against one s own
opposing beliefs can be tougher to resolve. Poets William Blake, G.M. Hopkins and Gwen Harwood
have produced various poems epitomising how these internal struggles can become quite detrimental.
Despite the differences in time periods and their varying cultural backgrounds, they all convey deep
messages about the struggles with worshipping their faith or religion, handling ideas surrounding
mortality and dealing with life s regrets formed by adverse situations.
Both Gerald Manley Hopkins and William Blake explore the conflicts between one s opinions and the
faith which they devoutly believe. The poems The Garden of Love and Hopkins Thou Art Indeed Just,
Lord each show the persona doubting the philosophical qualms of life surrounding Catholicism and
whether spending life upon thy cause, is meaningful. As a child, Blake read the Bible to enhance his
reading skills, however developed views correlating to the Swedenborgian church which holds the
Catholic church s views without the institutionalised feeling which Blake despised of in Catholicism.
The Garden of Love intertwines his beliefs into the poetry, as depicted with the strong imagery
between the vibrant childhood memory of the surroundings in comparison to the older man s views.

  • 2. Why Should Teachers Get Paid More Why Teachers Should Be Paid More Many people wonder if teachers should or should not get paid more than they do. A lot of people believe that teachers should get paid more, but there are some that do not. Parents that want their kids to have a good education want teachers to get paid more. For example, P.V Derkachev said, ... teacher pay influences the quality of education. (Derkachev 574). Teachers that get payed more would be more likely to perform better at their job and not mind the extra time that they have to do stuff outside of work to get everything done. Matt Barnum said, Higher salaries even small bonuses can and do keep some teachers in the classroom, and likely improve outcomes for their students. (Barnum). The student is going to get taught better if teachers get paid more because the teacher will want to teach at the best of her ability which will help the student. Teachers should be paid more because They work outside of the classroom (Snyder). They have to work on lesson plans, grade their assignment, tests, and quizzes (Snyder). In 5 Reasons Why Teachers Need To Get Paid More, it says, If you take into account the average teacher s salary and the hours they spend at work, they could probably make more money being an hourly wage employee. (Snyder). They should be getting paid more because they do not get paid enough with how much they do outside of work to be able to do what they do in the classroom. Teachers work very hard for what they do and to get everything done. Another reason why teachers should be paid more is that We will have no teachers (Snyder). Kasey Snyder said, No one wants to have a job that underpays and undervalues them. A lot of people choice another path of career when they go to college instead of being a teacher because teachers do not get paid enough. In Teachers Need a Raise, it says that young teachers are ... more likely to cite low pay as one of the main drawbacks of teaching than older teachers and are also more likely to leave the profession because of low starting salaries. (Partelow). People that want to be a teacher end up not doing it for long in college and change their major or graduate and not teach for long and go to school for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Workplace Benefits of Health and Fitness Programs Furthermore, fitness programs can benefit companies far beyond a spending stand point. There are many benefits of incorporating fitness into your daily routine, and some people are unaware of the impact it can have on every aspect of their life. Making health and fitness a priority in your life can result in dramatic change. Creating a healthy lifestyle through fitness and nutrition programs and then following through on those programs with self assessment practices and goal setting techniques can significantly decrease self defeating behaviors not only in the workplace, but in day to day life as well. There are many different ways to get involved in fitness, and the benefits are well worth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, Memphis is among one of the most overweight cities in America, making it crucial that we emphasize health and fitness in our businesses locally (Men s Fitness, 2014). Being overweight causes a number of health issues such as high cholesterol, heart disease, and diabetes. This can cause employees to miss work, drive up health care costs, and not be as productive when they are at work. In addition, health and fitness programs can help employees who already have health problems return to work sooner. For example, employees who have been diagnosed with heart disease and who participate in an exercise program have returned to work much quicker, and in addition, the death rate has also been cut down twenty to twenty five percent when employees engage in fitness routines (Meyers, 2003). Therefore, beginning a fitness program can not only significantly decrease the chances of someone obtaining one of these diseases, but can also decrease the amount of work they may miss due to these illnesses; henceforth, increasing the overall health of the workplace, productivity, and employee efficiency (Meyers, 2003). Making a fitness program also has a great impact on team environments. Fitness programs will lead to better morale, a more positive workplace, and an environment that will be more productive for all employees and team members. It is composed of two chambers or houses: The House of Representatives (150 members) and The Senate (31 members). House members serve for two years, each representing a district and 168,000 people. In the other hand, Senators serve four year terms and represent approximately 811,000 constituents. The Texas Constitution of 1876 mandated that requirements should be minimal, open to most citizens with little or no training in politics. • 5. Grade Hierarchy Analysis Call Graph According to Figure 2.8, node 7, node 8 and node 9 do not have any other predecessors except node 5 node 6 and by removing non instantiated methods they become head nodes. So, I should remove these heads from graph and this new graph can be considered as RTA result for the given CHA Call Graph (Figure 2.9). Figure 2.9: The result of removing head nodes from graph To clarify this approach, I will use the computed Class Hierarchy Analysis Call Graph from the first example (Figure 2.6) and convert it to RTA. Since set of instantiated classes contains Class B Class C, according to the algorithm, I have to remove node A.m( ). Moreover, if I check Call Graph again, I will find that node Interface.( ) has a reflexive edge and it s indegree=1 . Therefore, this node should be deleted as well. Figure 2.10 illustrates a conversion from CHA to RTA: CHA retrieved call graph Removing non instantiated node Removing non connected node Figure 2.10: CHA to RTA conversion 2.3.3 Class Type Analysis (CTA) CTA s main idea is narrowing down the set of reachable methods of a call site b.n( ) inside method A.m( ) by keeping track of available target types within class A. Since CTA algorithm is refinement of CHA and RTA, I can reuse CHA or RTA Call Graph result in CTA and decrease the set of reachable methods of a call b.n( ) to make it more precise. • 6. The Egyptian Syrian Attack Of September 1973 Assess the reasons for Israel s unpreparedness for the Egyptian Syrian attack of October 1973 The Egyptian Syrian attack that took place on Yon Kippur is a hugely significant event in the history of the Arab Israeli conflict. Often referred to as the trauma , the attack revealed a number of key issues with regards to Israeli defence and intelligence that ultimately resulted in a severe lack of preparation. Israel was unprepared for a plethora of interlinking issues that resulted in a series of fatal mistakes with regard to intelligence and military preparedness. With regards intelligence, an entrenched and overconfident conviction in the Concept blinded the Israeli s to the concrete evidence and forewarnings of the Egyptian Syrian mobilization. The ingenuity of the Egyptian s was also crucial to Israeli unpreparedness, especially the deployment of the almost certain double agent Ashraf Marwan. The Concept is the first significant reason why Israel was grossly unprepared for the attack she did not expect it and this was blunder of her own making. Upon official investigation into the errors of Israeli preparation, the 1975 Agranat Commission highlighted Israel s Military Intelligence Directorate Aman had persistently adhered to a single incorrect Concept regarding Egypt s attack capabilities, disregarding other key intelligence as a result. This Concept was that Egypt would not wage war on the Israeli s before she had, firstly, acquired long range attack ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Google Answer to Filling Jobs Introduction Google used to look for people with straight A report cards and double 800s on their SATs to determine if they would be a good fit for their organization but have since moved to more drastic measures to ensure a good match between the employee and Google s high octane organizational culture. Google has employed personality testing to help them make decisions about hiring by making applicants fill out an elaborate online survey that explores their attitudes, behavior, personality and biographical details going back to high school in an attempt to ensure a good PE fit with the organization. This is done in an attempt to increase productivity and reduce absenteeism and turnover. Employees that fit better into the organization will have higher job satisfaction and commitment to their organizations and lower intentions to quit when their personal characteristics and values match or fit the job requirements.1 When the employee is a good fit it can help with the employees attitudes and job stress. Group Level of Analysis Google was happy with the current culture and group dynamics and wanted to know how to ensure new individuals would interact with the groups the same way. To accomplish this Google did a study of the personality types that correspond to the leadership styles and level of results at the group level they wanted to mimic. This was done by asking every employee who had been working at the company for at least five months to fill out a 300 question survey. Afterwards Google created several surveys they believe will help them find candidates in engineering, sales, finance, and human resources. Using the personality test and comparing the results from people that already fit well in the organization will help Google maintain or improve the group dynamics, reduce intergroup conflict and result in better communication at the group level. Its exhibits have been a major influence in creating and stimulating popular awareness of modern art and its accompanying diversity of its styles and movements. The museum s outstanding collections of modern painting, sculpture, drawings, and prints range from Impressionisms to current movements. Moreover, there are exhibits of modern architecture, industrial design, sculpture, photography, prints and electronic media. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Barr submitted the concept of what was to become of the museum. It had to be organized as a multi departmental structure each devoted for Architecture and Design, Photography, Film and Video, and they should stand side by side with traditional arts such as Painting and Sculpture. Architect Philip Johnson built on this idea. The multi departmental structure seemed to best fit with the burgeoning International Style, a modernist architectural movement from which Philip Johnson belonged. In this architecture, buildings are designed with simple geometric lines and clean, precise surfaces and with minimum decoration. Walls are made almost entirely of glass, known as curtain walls a signature Johnson was known for that are used to give the building a light and airy appearance. The Museum of Modern of Art was the first to use the words International Style , which was a fitting term to introduce modernist arts to the world. Johnson and another renowned architect Henry Russell Hitchcock organized a major show under the title Modern Architecture: International Exhibition . There they described the International Style that expresses several design principles, that concerns with volume rather than mass and solidity, regularity instead of axial symmetry, and the proscription of arbitrary applied decoration . • 9. A Chemical Reaction By Light Photocatalysis is the acceleration of a chemical reaction by light. The activity of these catalysts usually depends on their ability to produce pairs of negatively charged electrons and positively charged electron holes (electron hole pairs) on material surfaces, which is induced by light irradiation. An electron hole is the absence of an electron from the full valence band. Furthermore, as light interacts with matter in the form of energy packets, the photons, it excites an electron consequently causing it to move to a higher energy orbital leaving a vacancy, a hole, in its previous position (ground state orbital). The creation of these electron hole pairs brings about various chemical processes, such as the formation of free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive chemical species, which may then go on to give secondary reactions. It is well documented that light energized, photocatalytic TiO2 is a safe, non toxic, anti oxidant that produces hydroxyl radicals (OH ) that are remarkably effective in rapidly decomposing organic compounds. When UV light is emitted on the titanium dioxide, electron are released. The electrons interact with water molecules (H2O) in the solution, breaking them up into hydroxyl radicals (OH·), which are highly reactive, short lived, uncharged forms of hydroxide ions (OH−). These agile hydroxyl radicals attack the organic (carbon based) molecules from which most dirt and other harmful chemicals are made of, breaking apart their chemical ... • 10. Gilgamesh s Death Of Gilgamesh In Tablet XI, Gilgamesh s mourning over Enkidu s death exhibits Gilgamesh s discontent and anger towards his weakness and frailty as a human, but he discovers another route to acquire immortality at the end. Gilgamesh travels to seek the answer to immortality from Utanapishtim, but Gilgamesh is too weak to withstand the test of becoming immortal. Gilgamesh is an arrogant king, and worshiping gods was prevalent during his lifetime. Although Gilgamesh is two thirds god, the one third god of him will result in Gilgamesh dying from human delicacy. Following Enkidu s death, Gilgamesh travels in search of the puzzling answer to immortality. He battles with the realization that he will one day suffer death, like Enkidu. During this time, it was believed that when people die their spirits go to an awful place. Death is not seen as peaceful. This could be why Gilgamesh presented feelings of extreme discontent with the realization that he is not immortal. As Gilgamesh approaches Utanapishtim, Gilgamesh expects to see a man that is godly and strong. Gilgamesh realizes that Utanapishtim seems normal and frail like him. Gilgamesh was perplexed to realize that Utanapishtim was granted immortality because there was nothing unique about him that Gilgamesh could see. Because Gilgamesh is distraught over the realization that he will die one day, he inquires Unanapishtim to reveal the secret of how he received the gift of immortality. Beating on Against the Current Essay Beating On Against the Current Each of us inevitable Each of us limitless each of us with his or her right upon the earth, Each of us allowed the eternal purports of the earth, Each of us here as divinely as any is here (Whitman 27). From out of the jazz soaked streets of New York City, arose a group of young poets and writers overwrought with the opportunity of their lives, and endeavored to capture its girth through the honesty and vulnerability of their words. These young bohemians would later lead the Beat Movement, which inspired young Americans throughout the county in their search for something more than the consumerism and conformity that plagued their society. Many found the bleakness and insignificance of modern society enough to merit both withdrawal and protest. Throughout On the Road, the influence of the Beat movement s ideals on Kerouac s writing is overtly apparent. As the narrator meanders up and down the country, both the main characters , and the lone hitch hikers they pick up contain an attitude of restlessness which can be seen in their actions and speak. While hitching a ride from a farmer, as Sal and Dean prepare their story to tell the man, he stops them simply asking, You boys going somewhere, or just going? This so elegantly captures the internal state of the author coming out bluntly in the work. The beat idealism heavily places importance on personal discovery in any way possible, not necessarily knowing what that path looks like only knowing that you must travel to reach it. Kerouac was distraught with the complacency of living in one place, and set out with no real place to go, and as he writes in response to the farmer we didn t know the answer to the question, but it was a damn good question (Kerouac). The 1940 s, post war America was looking up, the Great Depression was just coming to an end, but along with those that so eagerly bought into the consumerism of the time, arose a nation s youth that was alienated, restless, and dissatisfied. looking for something to experience in a, frenzied pursuit of extreme exacerbation of the nerves . Theories About The Etruscans The Etruscans were a people steeped in mystery that thrived in Tuscany, most of the information we have about the Etruscans are from indirect sources, either from Roman historians, the same Roman historians that helped erase most of Etruscan culture, or Ancient Greek historians who some believe didn t culturally grasp the different cultural values of their society. There is no concrete theory of where the Etruscans originated but they lived between the 7th and 3rd centuries BC. An mtDNA study completed in 2013 stated that the Etruscans were most likely an indigenous population. Another study completed six years earlier in 2007, hypothesized that they showed no similarities genetically to specimens from the near east, which vaguely could disprove one of the two most popular theories about the Etruscans heritage. Regarding the Etruscans there are two theories that hint towards who they were, and where they came from. • 14. Gender Subjectivity, By Judith Butler Gender subjectivity is another important aspect of the debate around gender because it focuses on a move away from the idea of innate sexual identity characteristics that divide human beings into male and female (Encyclopedia of Critical Psychology, 2014). This type of view challenges the essentialism of sexual difference into something more then a binary between male vs. female, heterosexual vs. homosexual, etc., as it recognizes that these dichotomies are problematic because the term of gender encompasses a whole range of identities across a spectrum. In particular ideas like what does it mean to be equal? (Butler) and seeing division of gender into binary conceptions of identity can be seen as a process of othering (de Beauvoir) are some of the areas that this topic examines. Undoing Gender by Judith Butler This book features a collection of Judith Butler s essays and her primary intention with this collection is to focus on the question of what it might mean to undo restrictive normative conceptions of sexual and gendered life (12). These essays look at the construction of gender and the way certain conceptions of it are normalized and reproduced in potentially harmful and limiting ways. Butler uses a feminist poststructural framework to critique the normalizing/marginalizing views of gender that exist because the terms that make up one s own gender are, from the start, out side oneself, beyond oneself in a sociality that has no single author (and that radically ... • 16. Catullus Poetry Analysis A less theoretical definition of poetry is, putting the best words in the best possible order. A poet may incorporate the theory as follows. The poet may astutely choose words possibly with a double meaning in order to indirectly convey a message, evoke emotions, or to slander. Then, the poet may unconventionally place such words and phrases perhaps out of expected order for the sake of creating a word picture, emphasizing the speaker s feelings, or offering tangibility to the poem. By implementing this idea onto poetic works, the poet will have auspiciously written a superb poem. This theory may be applied to a few of Catullus s poems specifically Carmen 5 , Carmen 8 , and Carmen 85. Catullus s meticulous choice of words and arrangement highlight the central focus of the poem, obliquely criticize traditional Roman law, manipulate the audience s attitude, transmit the speaker s emotions, paint word pictures, and offer symbolic meaning consequently producing a successful poem. For starters, Carmen 5 is an amorous poem Catullus wrote directed at his forbidden lover, Lesbia. Catullus insists they should disregard the rumors of old men, because while the sun is able to return, they only have one life to seize. Therefore, Catullus demands hundreds and thousands of kisses in a jumbled up manner from Lesbia, so their ardent passion cannot ever be cursed by the wicked ones. The strategic placement of the words let us live and let us love literally place Lesbia as the central focus of the work. In the original Latin text, the opening line reads as, vivamus, mea Lesbia, atque amemus, which the words vivamus and amemus enclose Lesbia and thus point to her as the center of the poet s life and love (Fredricksmeyer 436). It suggests Catullus viewed Lesbia as much more than an erotic, love poem topic. Evidently, the poem is enhanced through Catullus placing the best words in the best possible order, because the main subject of the poem is intentionally given significant importance. Furthermore, in Carmen 5 Catullus chose the best words, when describing the people, whose comments he and Lesbia should not be concerned about as sour old men (Gregory, L. 2). The actual Latin words for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Description Of A Photo Is Itinerant Itinerancy is a word that implies movement from place to place. To say a photo is itinerant is to acknowledge its ability to travel. Imagine a post card sent from Mykonos, decorated with the Greco roman architecture and Mediterranean beaches, as it arrives at someone`s snow covered mail box in Colorado. The displaced images on that post card bears different meanings to the persons receiving them. Memories and histories, specific to an ever increasingly foreign place and time, travel inside and with images, waiting to be uncovered and dissimilated. The Photographs ability to travel geographically prevents it from remaining fixed in any location. Images have an innate propensity to escape the confinements they have been created in and flee to new unfamiliar places. Photographs spore like pollen as they voyage around the globe leaving traces of themselves behind. Arts and all other forms of works about or inspired by original images are vessels, carrying in them a soup of new and borrowed ingredients. The various ingredients flavor each other and result in new altered carnations of the referent ingredient/works. Printed texts in literature can capsulate the many aspects of an images existence, giving photos new and sustained life through alternate modes, forms and mediums. Captions, for example, identify and date photos. Captions paired with photographs prevent the photos from being so easily swept into the abyss of meaningless images. Critics who write ... Philip Graham Ryken Chapter Summary I like and enjoyed reading on Philip Graham Ryken writing from a very conservatives point of view and his encouragement to the readers to return to the pillars of faith the church once held dear (in the first century). Ryken starts his book with an introduction to postmodernism and identifies these post Christian times as being characterized by relativism and narcissism which is pretty much true in these modern days. From a very conservative point of view Ryken said in order to fight against these modern day contemporary churches which are being characterized by relativism and narcissism and to be a remedy to society, churches need to return to the model of the 1st century church a church that was modeled on teaching, worshiping and caring. Agreement: I am in very much agreement with Ryken s identification on seven objectives for the church: expository preaching, worthy worship, Bible study and fellowship, pastoral care, educational programs, missionary work and service to the church and community. • 32. Roman And Greek Gods And Goddesses In The Modern World Another important contribution to our modern world is Roman Greek gods and goddesses because of its impact by helping the world with inventive names, gorgeous religious temples and even the Olympics. Ancient Greece invented the Greek gods to make sense in the world, for example, how was the earth made, why seasons change etc, for example, to explain why Greece only had three seasons summer, winter spring. People came up with the story of how (the god of the Underworld) Hades created winter by kidnapping Persephone (goddess of springtime and flowers). Many structures, company s products are named after many Greek Roman gods like Apollo 69 (rocket ship), statue of liberty (modeled after the goddess Libertas), Nike (shoe brand), Pandora (Jewelry), Amazon (online shopping website), Saturn (car company) Dionysus Wine Spirits (wine company) etc. A lot of Roman names were used to be the names of planets, some were used for modern things like cereal (Ceres), volcano (Vulcan), Mars chocolate bar (Mars) etc. Speaking of names, Roman gods were originally the Olympian gods, who had their names changed because the Romans wanted to claim them as their gods. Each Greek god and goddess s name were changed to fit their roman form, for example, Zeus got changed to Jupiter, Demeter to Ceres, Hera to Juno, Hades to Pluto, Artemis to Diana and many more other ones. Since the Greeks have an abundant amount of deities, it most likely they have a vast amount of temples to worship their gods and goddesses. When French colonizer, Jean Baptiste La Moyne, Sieur de Bienville, founded New Orleans in 1718, it was considered a strategically significant port of trade between North America and the rest of the world due to the Mississippi River and its vast network of tributaries (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p1). Unlike the paramedic that must operate under predetermined protocols, a clinician has the knowledge to use judgment to look at the factors that have influenced a patient s illness or injury. Instead of just giving nitro to treat the chest pain, the clinician has the duty to recommend a course of preventative measures such as diet, exercise, and perhaps prescribe a daily dose of aspirin.
