Content analysis
 Introduction
 Content analysis as a research method used to identify
patterns in recorded communication. To conduct content
analysis, you systematically collect data from a set of text,
which can be written, oral or visually:
 Books newspapers and magazines
 Speeches and interviews
 Web Content and social media posts
 Photographs and films.
The teacher organize and arranges the content into
components,that is,sub units,sub topics or single concept in a
particular order. Thus, when the process of dividing the content
of a unit or topic into its components of parts is performed well
in a specified order with specific objectives in mind, this process
is called content analysis.

Meaning and Definition of Content Analysis
 According to Devies , “It is the analysis of topic or content
unit to be taught , into its constituents of elements and
synthesized into logical sequence.”
 Several methods of content analysis are used ( Glaser 1993,
Home 1962, Macron 1965).
 The more useful of them is considered to be the matrix
technique of Davies. Under this technique, the content is
divided into its sub- topics. Each sub- topic is divided into its
components. Then they are arranged in sequence.

Sources of content analysis
 The teacher has to make use of several sources for content
analysis. Only then he can present the content fully.
 The following sources are used for content analysis:

Need of
students
 In the content analysis, the analysis of the owner’s behaviour is
carried out.
 The following tasks are performed in this direction:
1. The teacher has to keep the mental level and educational
level of the students in mind and has to determine the owner
bahavior.
2. For it, the authentic books have to be arranged for the study
of the content.
3. The form of the examination system and question papers has
to be content.
5. The extensive concepts are tested in the objective
examination.
6. The form of content analysis is determined by the
examination system.
Thus, the proper use of the above sources in Content
analysis helps in organizing teaching activities. And selection of
teaching strategies and techniques.
 Characteristics of elements of content analysis:
 The chief characteristics of elements of content are as follows:
 The students displays by his response that he knows about the
elements.
 A question is usually use for the measurement of the element.
 The students level of the element can be measured, such as knowledge,
comprehension,use etc.
 With the help of students response, measurement of comprehension and
knowledge of various elements can be done
 The behavioral change can be observed from the student’s response for
the element. Thus every elements is complete in itself.
 Several elements can be presented in a sequence in order to develop a
concept thought or fact
Arrangements of Topic elements into Logical sequence
 The following rules or maxims should be followed in arranging
the elements into a sequence:
1. From known to unknown .
2. From simple to complex.
3. From Concrete to abstract.
4. From observation to Logic.
5. From whole to more extensive.
The analysis functions as a guide in the determination of
objectives for the teacher.
Importance of content analysis
 To comprehend the whole unit intern of all different components.
 If helps to plan the lesson properly allocation content components for
different lessons.
 The think of other releted explanation ,illustration, reference to be
made.
 To plan for teaching of the content in different period by following the
need steps.
 To give the wholestic view while teaching the unit by means of
correlation of the subjects and other branches of life. To plan the
different applications of the content to the daily life situation.
Applications of content analysis
1. Analysing the structute of talk- conversation analysis.
2. Data oriented analysis to develop theories.
3. Capturing the hidden meaning in the text- interpretative
analysis.
4. Studies seeks to understand the messages in visual text often
called as Semiotics.
5. From the language spoken by the people in producing the
meaning through texts often referred as discourse analysis.
Conclusion
 The teacher organize and arranges the content into
components,that is,sub units,sub topics or single concept in a
particular order. Thus, when the process of dividing the
content of a unit or topic into its components of parts
performed well in a specified order with specific objectives in
mind, this process is called content analysis.
 To plan proper explanation and home assignment activities to
be given in the class. The content analysis helps to classify
information concept tasks to allign them with learning
outcomes make an inventory of information takes to generate
a list of topics, concepts, tasks.
