The document discusses construction health and safety (H&S) and its incorporation into tertiary built environment education. It provides statistics on construction site inspections in South Africa that found high rates of non-compliance. The document discusses how design can influence construction H&S, both directly through choices that impact constructability, and indirectly through the procurement system. Effective integration of design and construction through approaches like design-build can promote H&S. The legal duties of designers and clients under the South African Construction Regulations to consider H&S are also outlined. Examples of design details that impact construction H&S are presented.

Risk Assessment, Mitigation And Management In Epc Projects With Case Study By...HIMADRI BANERJI
Risk Assessment, Analysis, Mitigation and Management of EPC is therefore, of prime importance today especially with newer risks thrown open by the global economic meltdown related risks, risk related liabilities for performance are allocated to the EPC contractor, with instruments as Liquidated Damages, Extended Guarantees, Latent Defect Liabilities etc.

This term paper sheds light on the risks involved in the construction of highways and also the ways it can be prevented/eradicated so as to deliver optimum performance.
A review of the concept of extension of time for construction contracts, including why it is beneficial for employers to grant extensions. Includes a look at alternatives to extension, by way of acceleration of works.
Durst Phototechnik, AG and Steven Sebring established The Durst Sebring Revolution joint venture in New York City. The new company has come together to develop high-end, cutting edge photo technology systems to create four-dimensional (4-D) visual content for multi-channel platforms.
We practice the original and oldest moving image capture technique developed in 1872 by Eadweard Muybridge, with state of the art equipment and software, to create animations that capture form, light, and movement, over time. With this modernized technique we create what we call, four dimensional imagery. This allows one to see a volumetric capture of light moving in time, the primary goal of cubism. Our goal is
to bring reality into the virtual reality environment with photographs to revolutionize the way people seand interact with imagery.

Causes of delays on Construction Projects in Kuwait according to opinion of e...IJERA Editor
This paper presents an investigation into analysis of the causes of delays on Construction Projects in Kuwait according to opinion of engineers working in Kuwait. This is achieved through identification of the major causes of delays in the construction industry as reported in literature and using a questionnaire survey to collect the views of the various key players in the Kuwaiti construction industry. The data is analyzed and the views of the groups surveyed discussed and the relative importance index used to rank the causes of delays in the construction industry as per the questionnaire responses obtained. .It is found that the top 10 causes of delays in construction projects in Kuwait are as listed below. Using a lowest price bidding and tendering system Poor performance of the main contractor Inadequate experience or qualifications of main contractor’s staff Delay of payments from client to other parties Poor performance of subcontractors Shortage in the supply of general labour Frequent changes of subcontractors Delay in decision making by the client Poor management of subcontractors Conflict between the main parties to the contract Inappropriate methods used by the main contractor Proposals of ways to effectively prevent delays in the future construction projects managed in Kuwait construction industry were developed from the identified causes delay
The study evaluated the project life cycle for the construction of a fixed petroleum
platform which comprises of the planning, design, fabrication, load-out,
transportation, installation and commissioning phases.
The project life cycle, like several offshore structures located in open waters and
exposed to severe forces must be planned in great details for a successful
execution. It is therefore necessary to study and gather all necessary information on
the construction of a platform with the objective of creating a client, consultant and
contractor’s work breakdown structure (WBS) template in a project planning
software. The results of this study eventually serve as a guide which can be
adjusted to suit the planning and management for the construction of a fixed
petroleum platform depending on the soil characteristics, environmental and
operational parameters.
An oil platform is a large structure used to house workers and machinery needed to
drill and then produce oil and natural gas in the ocean (Wikipedia 2007). There are
different types of petroleum platforms and each of these types is chosen primarily
due to water depth considerations, and secondarily due to the intended service and
quantity of deck equipment necessary to perform its service. To develop a WBS for
the construction of a fixed jacket petroleum platform, the following issues were
investigated:
1) Planning: It takes into account operational considerations (i.e. the function,
location, and orientation of the platform) and environmental considerations
(including winds, tides, currents, ice, shallow gases, earthquakes and marine
growth) (Sadeghi 2001),
2) Design: It analyzes the dead loads (i.e. weights of the platform structure and any
permanent equipment and appurtenant structures which do not change with the
mode of operation), live loads (loads imposed on the platform during its use and
which may change either during a mode of operation or from one mode of
operation to another) and environmental loads (loads imposed on the platform by
natural phenomena including wind, current, wave, earthquake, snow, ice and earth
movement),
Assessment of risk on road projects in nigeria construction industryResearchWap
The aim of this research is to examine the impact of risk on road projects in Nigerian construction industry. The specific objectives are to;
i. Identify and assess the various risk factors associated with road project in Nigerian construction industry.
ii. Determine the effect of risk factors on cost of road project in the study area.
iii. Determine the effect of risk factors on completion time of road project in the study area.
This article presents a design appraisal for the construction of a water off-take channel following Construction
Design and Management regulations (CDM). Furthermore, a case study to pump water from River Tay near the
village of Luncarty requires the construction of a water off-take channel (abstraction channel). An initial section plan of water abstraction scheme has been conducted. The design will be reviewed by taking into consideration the main concerns regarding Health and Safety concerning Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM) 2007 and its amendments in 2015. Mostly, the greatest attention will be given to the construction stage of the project where these concerns will be questioned in terms if they can be catered for in designing the water take-off channel.
