The document outlines several constraints that could impact a project to create advertising for a new energy drink. It notes that the project must be completed within 6 weeks, requiring careful planning to fit all tasks into the timescale. It also identifies a lack of training in packaging design and the unavailability of film equipment as resources that are not provided but could affect the quality of the packaging and TV advert created. Finally, it discusses how restrictions from the Advertising Standards Authority, such as prohibitions on misleading claims or false environmental claims, could force changes that impact the project if not carefully considered during the initial design process.

1. Constraints
Every project gives you opportunities to create but also constraints to work to. Use this hand out to
consider the constraints which will affect your project.
Constraints
What timescale have you got for this project? How could this impact your work?
For this project we have 6 weeks to complete everything. This could impact my work because I
have less time to complete this project and I might have to rush some of the tasks and It could not
be the best to my ability. I will not les this have such a big impact on my work and I will plan so I
can make sure that I have time if I need to go back and add elements to improve my work. As it is
quite a short timescale I will need to plan my work out and create a plan to fit all my tasks into my
timescale and still have time at the end to check everything.
Are there any resources you will need for this project that you will not be provided with? How
could this affect your project? What can you do about this?
There are lots of resources that we do have access for, however there are some resources that I
will not be provided with that could possibly affected my project. I have never been provided with
a lesson on creating packaging. This could be a resource that could affect my project, as I do not
know how to create the packaging and what programme to use. This could make my packaging not
as good as it should have been if I got a lesson in creating product packaging. I can go about this by
asking my tutor on the best programme to use and hopefully then I can start from somewhere
where I can teach myself how to create the packaging to the best of my ability. Another resource
that I will not be provided with when creating my product is the resources of Film camera’s and
Actors to create a real life TV advert. This will affect my project as I will have to draw out the
advert and I will not be able to really go in detail and bring my ideas to life. It may not look like
what I want it to look like as I cannot express my ideas down on paper If I am a bad illustrator. I can
go about this by taking a lot of time with my storyboard and making sure that I put all of my ideas
down and use the writing to explain the advert more than the illustrations. So the audience knows
what is going on.
What restraints could be imposed by an organisation such as the Advertising Standards
Authority (ASA)? How could this impact your project?
One of the restraints that are imposed by the ASA that could have an impact of my work is section
three the misleading of information. As this is an energy drink when advertising my work I need to
give it a reason that It is better than all the other energy drinks and this could contain a reason that
is maybe impossible for the drink to do. This would then be miss leading information if the drink
cannot actually give you the features that I advertise. Then I would be violating section 3. I need to
make sure that I do not violate and through research I need to find the benefits that the drink can
actually provide and I will not be lying about. This could cause impact, as It might not attract my
audience to my drink as much as others if they have benefits that are better.
Another restraint is section 9 environmental claims. If I was to call the drink a name such as Green
or another name linked to the environment. This could have false environmental claims and I
would be violation section 9 of the CAP. This states that I could not make green claims when my
drink my not be green or environmentally friendly. This could make an impact on my work because
then I will have to change the name and this could affect me changing my whole packaging and
adverts. If I did have to change everything I would then have not that much time left to create
everything again and this could have very big affects on the project getting complete. To make sure
this does not happen I need to stay away from anything that I could be making false
environmentally friendly claims wit the name or the packaging or the TV advert.
