the poem Icarus by Edward Field is alluding to the myth of Icarus and Daedalus
which is set in a contemporary setting. The poem takes a spin on the myth were
instead of Icarus drowning, he is set in today s world as the fall of the great hero,
nothing but an ordinary man. It reveals that Icarus cannot handle being just
ordinary and wishes he had drowned. (line 30). Through imagery, diction and irony
Fields uses a contemporary setting to convey the life of Icarus who is living as a
man who once achieved greatness. Edward Fields uses the setting to connect the
imagery of the poem which sets the tone and shows how Icarus is living in a new
society. The first stanza describes the tragic death of Icarus. Then the third stanza
shows how Icarus is living in his new life. The first stanza is describing Icarus s
death at a crime scene, where there were witnesses. so the report filed and forgotten

happened at the scene did not mean much to the people that were there as they ran

contemporary, current societal lifestyle where Mr Hicks who is aging in the suburbs

The Operations Superintendent would have OPCON and TACON as well. Making
small changes to how we operate as an organization to become more effective in
daily operations would be TACON. The flight chief is the best example of TACON
as they run the flight who is conducting the daily operations. They are told to
conduct guardmount, but they are not told in what order they conduct their briefings
or what type of information needs to be briefed every day. They also assign who
gets posted at each location for the day. OPCON would be the post priority chart that
tells the flight chief which posts are the most important and require the most
manpower. TACON is used when the flight chief decided who will work the most
important post and who will work the gates. Below is a flow chart to help you
understand how OPCON and TACON blend together (Figure 1 1).

Hills Like White Elephants Symbolism Analysis
In 1927, Ernest Hemingway wrote and published a short story titled Hills like White
Elephants . This story became an instant classic, as it talks about the tail of The
American and the girl, Jig, and their journey on a train that will take them to Madrid.
The story focuses on a conversation between an American man and a woman,Jig, at a
Spanish train station while waiting for a train to Madrid. The woman compares the
nearby hills to white elephants. The pair indirectly discuss an operation that the man
apparently wants the woman to have, which is implied to be an abortion. This story
contain imagery and symbolism about the hills, beads, Alcohol and the abortion
which makes the story so popular and relevant to us today. With it being so important
and popular, a lot people have written critical many review over the story comparing,
describing and forming theories about the meaning for the story. This essay compares
critical reviews with each others discussion the symbolism and imagery with the Hills
like White Elephants.
The existence of alcohol can play a major role in the influence on theme and contexts
within any story. The characters in the story Hills Like White Elephants for instance,
were heavily intoxicated throughout the short story. Because of this, the characters
choices and actions towards one another are not the same to what they actually are
thinking and feeling. And this plays a major role in the story s outcome. And
throughout the story the American and Jig, Drinks Absinthe, which can only be
described as neutral spirits distilled from grain and flavored with anise. But the direct,
licorice like taste and the smell heady, rich, a little brazen instantly evoke an idyllic
drowsiness. (Lanier) The girl is quoted saying Everything tastes of licorice.
Especially all the things you ve waited so long for, like absinthe. This quote lead
people to believe after she was drinking the absinthe that she had a flashback of a
previous time that she got drunk before. Doris lanier write that Obviously, the
licorice flavor imparted by the anise in the Anis del Toro, which she is drinking when
she makes the comment, triggers a response that causes her to see some connection

Abstract:
The essay examines evolution of popular music, experiences and how the public
understood it between 1918 and 1939. During this period, a national culture dance
was developed in England. Evolution process was marked with transformation of
popular dance forms, affordable and easily dances places and a national wide
dancing practice. Evolvement of a dance culture was instrumental in creation of a
national identity. People understood what it meant to be British. There was an
English style of ballroom dancing, thematic content such as the popular Lambeth
walk. To reduce American influence on English music, British ballroom dancers
tried to create British music free of American influence. Through adaptation of
different dancing styles, they presented what they believed to be the real British
identity. Introduction: In the words of Victor Sylvester, ballroom dancing was an
activity which could not be cut off or separated from the world; it was an activity
which was influenced by surrounding occurrences. Change in occasions such as
fashion, war music and social upheavals all played an important role in influencing
the dancing scene. He observed that external forces influenced performance as well
as evolution of dancing (Sylvester, 1927). Rather than concentrating how dancing was
influenced by occurrences such as war or change of fashion, this essay

These were distributed to houses fairly close to the store and to those of the ethnic
minority around the store. This was carried out in order to meet the objective of
having a balanced work force in terms of gender, age and ethnic minority.
Apart from being easily accessible, the recruitment team also responded by making
themselves more available. They worked through the evenings and weekends, thereby
making them more available to applicants.
At the northern store, the closure of several manufacturing companies was an
opportunity to have a large pool of potential candidates. A B Zee took the initiative
to solicit with the local Job Centre. The result was that there were too many
applications to be processed. The major constraint was time. As a result of the huge
number of applications, there was constraint in the task of short listing for
interview which was as a resulted of the enormous volume of applications received.
Majority of the applicants were of good quality Also, given the size of the task and
the time available it was very likely that the quality of the short listing decisions
would be affected.
The lay out of the application form did not help the short listing process at all. The
most relevant information was not grouped together. This was a major constraint as
well because more resources, effort and time had to be devoted to responding to all
the applicants.
The recruitment team was also faced with the constraint of having to respond
In Praise Of Not Knowing By Tim Kreker Summary
Are you at an age where you can remember a time before the internet, where you
would have to search through stacks of books or encyclopedias to find the
information that you want? Some of you may be thinking Yes, thank god for google!
and others may be thinking Oh, the horror! I can t imagine surviving without it! . But
there are the few that reminisce about the time when you couldn t find whatever
information you were looking for in a matter of minutes. Unlike many, Tim Kreider
looks back on the times before the internetwith fondness, and thinks that our easy
access to information has had some negative side effects. While Kreider raises some
interesting and valid points in his article, In Praise of Not Knowing there are still
some... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once one question is finally answered it can raise more like you often see in
mystery novels. If someone got bored of something just because they learned the
explanation for it then that shows they were never really interested to begin with. If
someone is truly interested in a topic looking it up could not only answer some of
their questions it could make them like it even more and improve their interest in it.
In addition if someone is curious about something but wants to keep that curiosity to
maintain that. Just because everyone has access to the internet doesn t mean
everyone uses it.
The other issue with Kreider s argument is that it seems to promote ignorance. We ve
been taught that knowledge is power and the internet is all the knowledge people
have accumulated over the years. The fact that we have access to gives us the
ability to become better and smarter and improve ourselves. We can find many
helpful and important tips that could help you with life and other things you might
experience. If you re also unsure about something you were sharing with someone
you could confirm if you were actually correct or not and not just guess. If we didn t
have the internet and weren t able to access information everyone would be relying
on conjecture instead of actual facts. When people are interested in an event, time, or
person and talk about it with others, others might disagree on what actually happened
you can easily figure out what is true and what is not.

This is illustrated by the extensive detailing of CrooksВґ crooked spine, his deep
black wrinkles and pain tightened lips. The reader sympathises with Crooks
because he is physically inept and suffers silently. Due to years of loneliness,
Crooks is a private man and so was very annoyed when Lennie interrupted him
whilst applying liniment to his back; this was a private act of a private man. If you
guys would want a hand to work for nothing just his keep, why IВґd come anВґ lend
a hand. I ainВґt so crippled I canВґt work like a son of a bitch if I want to, is an
example of CrooksВґ loneliness as he proposes to work for George and Lennie if
they buy a ranch of their own. He tries to reassure Lennie that he can still work hard
despite his disability. He wants to join George and LennieВґs dream to counteract his
loneliness. This is emphasised by the fact that he is willing to work for just a bed and
some food and go without wages. They say I stink. Well, I tell you, you all of you
stink to me, is a possible reference to CarlsonВґs remark about CandyВґs dog. This
gives the impression that the general idea within the ranch is that Crooks is inferior
to the others. This suggests that Steinbeck thinks that some black people feel the
same way about white people as some white people feel about black people.
Steinbeck uses Of Mice and MenВґ to portray issues which he feels strongly about
Frankenstein Weather Quotes
Chapter 9 of Foster s book is all about the weather and how it affects the story. Foster
claims that weather is never just weather (Foster, 70). As he says this, he also
explains how rain carries a deeper meaning when it is presented in a setting, and that
is the same for fog, lightning, and sunshine. In Frankenstein, weatherpromotes a
deeper meaning when Victor s brother dies. Victor exclaims, William, dear angel!
This is thy funeral, this thy dirge...a flash of lightning illuminated the object, and
discovered its shape plainly to me: its gigantic stature, and the deformity of its aspect,
more hideous than belongs to humanity, (Shelley, 77). This quote shows how a scary
scene is accompanied by lightning to add to the spookiness. This

Expectancy Theory
The expectancy theory by Victor Bloom is based on the believe that organizational
employees act in a certain way based on the strength of an outcome and how
attractive the outcome is to the individual. The theory contains three main
relationships and when all three are maintained the desired behavior from the
employee will be achieved. These three relationships are effort performance
(Expectant probability), performance reward (Instrumentality probability) and
rewards personal goals (Valence). In the effort performance relationship or
expectancy the employee must believe that if they perform in a certain manner that
they will indeed increase their performance and thus make goals obtainable. In order
for the employee to actually... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then to gain interest in the rewards, there needs to be an overhaul of the reward
system itself.
There needs to be variety in the rewards. A poll could be taken of the employees
and ask them what would be fair rewards for met goals. The employer could take
the majority opinion of the poll and offer the result as a reward or offer options of
rewards either by individuals or by group. The rewards must be of value to the
employee that is the bottom line.
The company needs to have transparency in the new goal and reward program. That
will make sure there is confidence and fairness in the reward program. Employees
must see that the achievers are being rewarded while the underachievers are not.
This tangible difference must be known and visible to reinforce that things are now
different and effort is awarded. This aspect addresses the instrumentality relationship
aspect of the expectancy theory. To accommodate those employees that are
motivated by recognition, individual rewards that include company wide recognition
should be established in addition to the monetary or benefit rewards. Team
recognition awards could also be established. This would create a little friendly
competition while providing openly displayed performance numbers which in turn
provides positive feedback for increased performance. By making sure that the
reward system has value and makes the employee desire to make the goal and

The moral quandary in Merck and the waterway visual deficiency was whether the
organization should seek after the examination which may bring about benefit, or
pick the more secure choice, that was going for the benefit as opposed to inquiring
about the medication. The medication was considered to cure the destructive and
impeding ailment called the stream visual deficiency that were situated in
territories of the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. Leaders of the
organization had issues about the exploration that was being led. The issue was that
the patients couldn t bear the cost of it, essentially in light of the territory the
medications were waiting to be controlled. This implied no benefit for the
organization. Taking a gander at Merck s site, the organization uncovers its
incentive as: Our center esteems are driven by a yearning to enhance life,
accomplish logical magnificence, work with the most elevated norms of honesty,
grow access to our items and utilize a differing workforce that esteems cooperation.
Improving people groups general life is the principle objective of the organization
not simply profiting. It could be a troublesome choice for Merck to choose on the off
chance that it needed to contribute on the examination on account of the
exceptionally focused market, and the dread of disappointment. Be that as it may,
from what the organization has as its center esteem, it should go for the production of
the medication in spite of the absence of benefit.

The Causes And Effects Of Distracted Driving In California
Every year, about four hundred twenty one thousand people are injured in a car
crash involving distracted driving. In the United States alone, nine people are killed
and over one thousand are injured every day in a car accident involving a distracted
driver. Distracted driving is responsible for the majority of accidentsthat take place in
the state of California. The rapidly increasing rate of fatality occurring in California
proves distracted drivinghas become a fatal epidemic. Alike a disease that has the
ability to wipe out an entire population, distracted driving has proven to be equally as
devastating. Many people may argue that the laws currently in place in California is
all that can be done to eliminate or minimize the trauma that results from the issue.
Although, the thousands of people who have lost their loved ones to car accidents
involving a distracted driver would have to disagree. The state of California certainly
has not done enough to prevent distracted driving nor enforce punishment upon those
responsible. At first glance, many people believe that the state of California has done
enough to prevent distracted driving. California has multiple laws currently in effect
that prevent and limit distracted driving. California governor, Jerry Brown, has
addressed the issue that continues to escalate as fatalities multiply. He has stated his
opinions and plans for further prevention and action to be taken. Most recently,
Brown signed the Assembly Bill 1785 that

they did not, windows would be broken, or the house otherwise damaged. The

Taking a Look at the Inuits
Inuits are a community that originated 4000 years ago. The first inuit group is the
Paleo Eskimos. Inuits live in 53 different Arctic and Northern communities in
Canada but also in several Southern cities. 22% live outside of the Inuits Nunagat
(homeland) while the other part lives inside of the homeland. Pre Dorset culture is
said to begin when the Paleo Eskimos settled on the islands of the Canadian
archipelago and northern Greenland. They had winter very difficult because at that
time, they had lacked technologies such as boats, dog sleds, skin tents and sources
of warmth other than small fire pits and wood fuels. They have very long winters
but only a couple of months of summer . In fact, it is one of the coldest places on
earth and because of this all the Inuitpeople adapted to the lifestyle, food,
transportation etc. A shelter was needed to keep them warm, and protect them from
the harsh winter weather. The shelter is a snow house which they use in winter and
named igloo. An igloo is a temporary shelter that is made of snow blocks. They
believe in animism which is a belief that says all living and non living things have a
spirit. These spirits have to be kept happy and there are several guidelines Inuit
people have to follow in order to make the spirits happy.Their language is Inuktitut
which is their traditional language. The Inuits also have an alphabet of their own its

The Soviet Union s Nuclear Arms Race
Within four years of the United States bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the
Soviet Union successfully tested its first nuclear weapon. Ultimately, this test would
begin the arms race between the US and the USSR, which would come to be one of
the largest sources of political tension between the two countries throughout the Cold
War. While lack of information and historical bias from an American point of view
suggests that the USSR created its nuclear industry solely to beat the west, further
analysis shows that the Soviet Union had wide ranging purposes for the creation of
its nuclear industry. Therefore, while the United Statessuccesses in nuclear technology

The investment in alternate energy that the USSR made, especially for a highly
industrial country whose economic development largely relied on the production of
fossil fuels, is unparalleled. The Soviet Union had two main, long term incentives
for investing in nuclear energy: One, 80% of the countries fossil resources were
located in the eastern half of the country while 75% of the population lived in the
western half, and two, nuclear power is less damaging to the local environments than
conventional fossil power. Interestingly, the USSR actually led the world in the use
of nuclear power to generate electricity, creating the world s first nuclear power plant
at Obninsk on June 27th, 1954. The success and speed of the Soviet Union s reactor
production shows both advantages and disadvantages of the country s political
system, as the country was able to allocate all resources to the research of various
power generation methods without the limits of waiting for individual company
investment; however, this often incurred high costs both with safety standards and
economically. However, by 1985, the countries investments in nuclear energy
production appeared to have paid off, with nuclear energy

Life Was Lost In My Life
Summer of 2015 is when my life took a turn for the worst. I was losing myself, and
everyone I ve ever loved. Feeling alone, empty, and just lost. At one point in my
life I was happy, extremely happy. I had friends and close family. I was genuinely
complete. I remember all that changing on a Tuesday afternoon after school, in 5th
grade, when my mom came to pick me up ,and we went to Mcdonalds after to pick
up my sister. My motherwas in the front of our little Honda mini van. I was in the
back, and we were parked in the parking lot of Mcdonalds. The weather was so
nice, not too hot or too cold. There was also absolutely no wind in the atmosphere.
We were still in the car after a good 5 minutes. Then suddenly, my mom receives a
phone call. The volume on her phone is all the way up, and since it was super quiet
already, I could hear everything she and the other person was saying. When she
answered she was so happy, so I assumed it was my dad calling. I was wrong. Some
other guy answered, and they were talking as if they were in a relationship. Shocked,
I was the whole time. The call ended in a I love you. My mom responded in a same
here so i wouldn t know. That whole day was horrible and i couldn t help it but cry.
How could she do this too our family? I remember thinking all day. I was so angry at
my mom. All the hatred i thought i had for her at the moment was coming out and
showing so easily. My parents started fighting most the time and it usually started

CHAPTER I THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Learning
varies on each and everyone. Individuals can perceive and process information in
different kinds of ways, which implies that the degree to which individuals learn
has as much as to do with whether the learning experience is geared to their style of
learning. Some of the individuals learn and develop easily in the early stage, while
others are not. For some time now educational research exploring the issue of
academic achievement or success has extended beyond simple issues of intelligence
and prior academic achievement. One concept in particular which has provided some
valuable insights into learning both academic and other settings is learning style.

Background of the Study People are not alike; the world is seen in a way that makes
the most sense to each individual. Since two persons are not basically alike, not all
benefits from the same approach. Each individual has his or her own unique learning
strengths and weaknesses. Thus, educators must use a variety of method to reach the
students. This research study has brought together academic study (knowing),
personal growth (being) and practical experience (doing). In choosing the research
topic, the researchers observed the different setting inside the classroom the
environment inside the classroom and how the students cope during lectures. At the
outset it seemed that the members had different issues and interests. As the concerns
were discussed and personal experiences were shared, the research group seemingly
integrated each other s thinking and move toward a consensus. Brainstorming was
used to help the group decide on which topic to research on as a number of
suggestions were narrowed down to the most appropriate choice. The sharing of
ideas made all of the researchers more aware of the complexities of the problem. And
this has led them to the issue on the different learning styles of students.
Blurred Lines In J. C. Burke s The Story Of Tom Brennan
In life, the line that separates victims from perpetrators is as clear as a window
pane, but in some situations that window can crack, causing damage and danger. A
victim is someone who has been harmed, or worse, due to a crime or accident. A
perpetrator is a person who has committed a crime, either accidently or purposely.
Three stories that capture this blurred line are Shattered, an Australian Story episode
on ABC s website, The Story of Tom Brennan, a story written by Australian author
J.C.Burke, and In My Little Town, another Australian Story episode. They all share
the common theme of having a blurred line between victimand perpetrator.

was discussed. The topic discussed was Lead, one of the main environmental
factors that are detrimental to the health of infants in the United States of America
Despite discontinued use, lead is persistent in the environment and continues to
pose a risk to health (Davis, 2007). The sources of lead, the dangers of its exposure
and ways to prevent lead poisoning were discussed. The parent is a Guyanese by

Lead was used in many consumer products until it was phased out in the early
1980 s. Lead can be found in the soil, soot, tap water, herbal medicines from other
countries and lead based paint (CDC, 2010. Paint in homes built before 1980
became a hazard when it peels and chips. The route of exposure is through
inhalation and oral ingestion. Babies are more vulnerable because of their size,
make up and behavior (Davis, 2007). These babies are not responsible for their
actions which makes the care givers not only responsible for their own safety but
that of their children. Statistics have shown that although people can be exposed to
lead in the USA, most of the infants diagnosed with lead are from foreign born
parents. In 2009, 47% of the pregnant women identified with blood lead levels
(BLL) 15ug/ dl, were born in Mexico (Farley, 2010). When mothers are exposed to
lead, it passes through the placenta and affects the fetus. The current CDC target
blood lead level for children under six years of age is 10ug/dl (CDC, 2010). Even to
small levels of BLL can cause health and developmental issues. Along with
Analysis Of Minority Report
The 2002 film, Minority Report, seems to contain the aspects of a Kantian approach,
but when analysing the movie in further detail, does it hold its place? The Pre crime
program punishes individuals for having the intent to murder another, even when the
action does not take place. Kant elaborates his standards pertaining ethics in
Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals, where Pre crime can be further
understood. Minority Reporttakes place in the year 2054, crime is virtually
eradicated from Washington D.C. due to the Precrime crew. The program uses three
gifted humans, known as Pre Cogs, to see in the future and predict crimes
beforehand. John Anderton, the head of Precrime, believes that the system is
flawless, however, the Pre Cogs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kant s first proposition is an action has moral worth only if it is done out of duty,
such as when someone who has absolutely no interest in donating to the poor does
so out of duty. His second proposition is that action has moral worth not because of
its aim, but because of the maxim on which it is based, meaning that it would not
matter if the intent failed, as long as the principle was good. His third proposition
is that duty is the necessity of an action from respect for the law, such as if an
individual is in an embarassing spot, they could will the lie, but not will the maxim
to lie. Kant argues that everything is secretly done in self benefit, an example can
be an individual helping another merely for the fulfilled feeling. Comparing
Kantian aspects to Minority Report can be done with ease. Kant s second
proposition, that an action has moral worth because of its maxim, can be further
understood in the Pre crime stance. The Pre crime organization is in place in order
to stop murders. Individuals, such as Anderton, are sought out to be arrested before
they even comprehend the crime. However, Kant would argue that the arrest is valid
due to the fact that they are capable of such an intention, even if the act was not
committed. Emotions are something people tend to little to no control on, which
leads to crime of passion, or the red balls, being produced. These

3. No restrictions on minimum purchase amount
The principle of no restrictions on minimum purchase amount adopted by Yu EBao
contributes to the concentration of more fragmented and idle money in society,
enhances the utilization of social capital, at the same time provides clients a more
convenient banking services. On the other hand, this covenant lite investment is also
beneficial to enlighten customers who have never been involved in financial services
with basic finance and investment ideas, which is playing an important role in
establishing a correct and acute sense for investment and financing in the whole
society.
Yu EBao s advantages to financial market:
Firstly, the most significant advantage of Internet finance product is to promote
interest rate liberation. Previously, China s financial activities are highly controlled
by government. However, with the further development of market economy, China is
regularly deregulating the financial market. Interest rate liberation in financial market
is the key step in the process of transformation to full market economy. Interest rate
liberation means that according to the supply and demand of fund, its price is decided
by financial market subjects including financial institutions, enterprises and
inhabitants. If interest rateпјЊespecially the deposit interest rate is only determined

Relative Asbestos Effect Essay
In addition to the multiplicativity index, the Relative Asbestos Effect (RAE) was
used to evaluate the multiplicative interaction between smoking and asbestos. The
RAE is the effect of smoking on the asbestos effect expressed as the ratio of the
risk ratio due to asbestos exposure in non smokers (RR01) to that in smokers
(RR11). This measure is used to examine the heterogeneity of asbestos effect across
categories of smoking status, to determine if there is effect measure modification. If
the asbestos effect is the same for non smokers as for smokers, then the RAE is
equal to one, whereas a value greater than one indicates that the effect of asbestos is
greater in non smokers than in smokers (negative multiplicative interaction), and vice
versa (27). The equation of RAE is: RAE=RR01/RR11... Show more content on

For the interaction term, an odds ratio (95% CI) which is significantly greater (or
less) than one, indicates a multiplicative interaction (29). The multiplicative
interaction may also be evaluated with the likelihood ratio test comparing logistic
regression models (or cox regression) with or without the interaction term (7,30). In
epidemiologic studies, researchers examine the additive interaction or multiplicative
interaction only for empirical reasons; and usually use the one that shows a better fit
to the observations. In fact, statistical interactions are mostly evaluated as departure
from multiplicativity, due to the statistical models used in the analyses (e.g. logistic
regression), and that the models generate the multiplicative interactions results
immediately. Usually, if authors are interested in the evaluation of the statistical
interaction, they should report results as departure from additivity and

Acne vulgaris is a skin condition that is caused by hormone changes that cause our
bodies to secrete more oil that then mixes with dead cells at the epidermis layer
and clogs our pores. This is a condition that mostly affects teens but can also be seen
on newborn babies as well as older people. It is commonly called ACNE.
It can be characterized by small or large red bumps. Sometimes they are raised off
the skin, sometimes they are pus filled and other times they may just swell then go
away. The blocked follicles can keep bacteria trapped in the pores which allows for
the bacteria to grow more rapidly. The pus filled heads are called white heads and the

small pads soaked in alcohol. There are ointments that usually have a form of
Benzoyl peroxide.(Jaggi, Rao, MD, FRCPC Jan.23,2015) Hot compresses can be
used to help with the swelling. Hormonal therapies like Estrogen can be used to

treatment that binds the androgen receptors as well in hormone therapy. (Jaggi, Rao,

Sometimes people have outbreaks that need a doctor s prescription medicine to treat.
You would need to see a dermatologist if this is the case. Usually after your visit
with a dermatologist you will start with topical treatments. Some forms of these
treatments would be retinoids and antibiotic. For severe cases isoltretinoin,
dermabrasion and laser resurfacing could be forms of treatment. (Jaggi, Rao, MD,

The Supreme Law Of The United States
The United States Constitution is the supreme law of the United States of America
which defines the structure of national government and dictates the capacity of its
powers and limitations. The U.S. Constitution maintains its purpose as the
fundamental application of law in the United States where all other laws are
measured against it. Furthermore, the Guarantee Clause of Article 4 specifies each
state to maintain a degree of sovereignty over its own forms of government (U.S.
Const. art. IV, В§ 4). State constitutions mirror the design of the federal constitution
and contain extended provisions of the U.S. Constitution.
The Framers of the Constitution believed in protecting freedoms and maximizing
liberty, and the U.S. Constitution specifically mentions that The powers not
delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states,
are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people (U.S. Const. Amend X). The
Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitutionenumerates the powers of the
Federal government. As a result, state constitutions are lengthier and more detailed
than the federal constitution because of their semi autonomous nature.

Essay on Misfortune and Comedy in Shakespeare s Play, A...
A Winter s Tale by William Shakespeare is a chilling play full of misfortune and
comedy. Throughout the play, the themes of death and suffering are present, but yet
the way in which they are presented is both comical and strange. The way in which
the dialogue takes place or the way in which actions occur seem to be ambiguous.
One of the most pivotal points of the story takes place over a very short time span,
climaxing over three pages, and declining almost immediately thereafter. In this case,
the deathof Hermione and Mamillius occurs and is resolved, with their burial
following quickly after. The wording throughout the text can be interpreted in several
ways, especially in the way which death is represented throughout the play. Death...

Censorship On The Internet
No one wants to be censored, but sometimes there has to be a limit for the greater
good. What kids are able to view and read on the internet must be protected until they
are old enough to handle the information that is available by the multitudes on the
internet. Parents should have the right or the ability to censor the information that
comes into their home. Civil libertarian groups advocate the protection of the
individual s freedoms from infringement by the government. These include things like
freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, freedom of religion, and a free press (South
University Online, 2016). However, when trying to maintain a vast array of
information such as on the internet, government support and intervention is
necessary. The internet is too large an entity to govern itself. Protecting citizens is a
responsibility of the government. Therefore, regulating the internet with laws and
policies to protect the children in our society, is a responsibility of the government....

I think it is more about protecting than censoring. Parents have always wanted to
protect what their kids are able to hear or see. Before the age of the internet,
parents only allowed certain television programs to be viewed by their children,
subsequently they would only allow their children to be in the company of people
that they felt were a good influence, or they flipped through a book before giving it
to their children. It is a parent s duty to be sure their kids are not being exposed to
information that could harm their perceptions of the world, or distort their views of

of American History and they hold very deep meaning in my own heart. I could

such as Gifford Pinchot and Theodore Roosevelt, teach me the history behind the
ideas of national parks. Despite all of my research, however, I believe the best way

Difference Between Civil Liberties And Civil Rights

Kriti Gautam Professor Sherry Sharifian Federal Government 2305 71433 7 October
2017 Civil Liberties and Civil Rights Fundamentals to the US Constitution Civil
liberties are The fundamental individual rights of a free society, such as freedom of
speech and the right to a jury trial, which in the United States are protected by the Bill
of Rights (Patterson 126). 1 Civil rights are rights for freedom and equality. The main
difference between civil liberties and civil rights is that civil rights pertain to how
people treat others, and civil liberties pertain to the actual freedom that individuals
enjoy. They are similar in that they both promote the protection of freedom in the
constitution. Civil rights have had more influence on my life, because, as a minority,
life would have been so different without civil rights. Also, if not everyone can enjoy
civil liberties through civil rights, then there might as well be no Bill of Rights to
protect the fundamental human rights.
The courts weigh in any time there is a dispute regarding civil rights or liberties;
for example, the civil liberties court case, Byrd v. United States, deals with the

question about whether a driver should expect privacy in a rental car that he/she has

Having a family member unexpectedly in ICU can be a painful and difficult time.
Evidence based practice demonstrates that when a member of their social system is
compromised, the entire family is disrupted. The unfamiliar environment leaves
family members in severe stress and in a state of shock. Family members also require
attention and needs to help cope with the stress of a family member in intensive care
unit. These needs are grouped into five categories: receiving assurance, remaining
near the patient, receiving information, being comfortable, and having support
available. There should be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second step in meeting the needs, is remaining near the patient. The desire to link
and maintain familial relationships helps. It brings a family closer while at the same
time support is given to the patient. Since being in ICU is an unexpected event, many
time family members depend of the nurses to be near the patients. In ICU the nurses
have a ratio usually of 1:2. As an intervention to have this need met, tell family
members of the flexible visiting hours. Inform them of the visiting hours, timing of
visitors, and the visitors permitted. They are informed of the unit routine and patient
care needs. The ICU should establish practice guidelines for family visiting that
incorporate patient and family needs for proximity, maintain family relationships, and
allow family to support the patient (Kirchhoff, Pugh, Calame and Reynold, 1993).
Research demonstrates that flexible, inclusive, and open visiting that is responsive to
patient, family, and care is beneficial to all parties (Titler, 1998).
Receiving information is the third family need. The critical care nurse should assess
the knowledge the family has and needs. Let the family members know that it
would be best to choose a designated family member to inform everyone of any
changes and keep everyone in the family circle informed of the patient s progress.
Giving the patients family information will give them a sense of control and help
reduce their anxiety.

Six Steps In Conflict Resolution
Conflicts in intimate relationships subsist inevitable. Despite the degree to which
individuals stand alike, differences in opinions and beliefs will transpire. This chapter
taught me that it does not stand as the topic of disagreement that retains importance,
but rather the way in which the couple resolves the conflict. According the text, six
steps exist to aid in conflict resolution; The steps are: (1) clarifying the issue; (2)
finding out what each person wants; (3) identifying various alternatives; (4) deciding
how to negotiate; (5) solidifying agreements; and (6) reviewing and renegotiating
(Olson, DeFrain, Skogrand, 2014, p. 154). Upon reading the descriptions and facts, I
find these six steps to rest highly effective and imperative to conflict resolution. When
a disagreement emerges, couples tend to play the blame game, ignore their parent s
perspective, and explore for a quick solution. While it stands evident that these
behaviors do not persist effective, these six steps provide a solution. Although I do
find these six steps to exist accurate, I cannot guarantee how realistic they stand. Just
as any other process, to remain realistic, the steps require two individuals who value
their relationships and desire its continuation. This process requires individuals to not
only voice their opinion, but also to clarify, identify, and negotiate this issue at hand.
These steps will not occur with ease or speed, but they will sanction for the complete
resolution of
Analysis Of Graduation Day By Maya Angelou
Forged by Pain In 1940, the United States approached the eightieth year anniversary
of the abolition of slavery; however, the social oppression of African American
citizens steadily increased. Despite being free for decades, they were still leagues
below the white people who owned their ancestors. African American author Maya
Angelou recollects on her experience of graduation from the eighth grade in her 1940
piece Graduation Day. The narrative not only highlights the importance of the
narrator s graduation, but also the expectations of Angelou s community due to their
persecution and separation. Perseverance through separation and persecution forges
dignity in an individual. The separation of the African American displays the
importance of graduation day. Angelou was only graduating from the eighth grade,
but because of the sociocultural differences, graduation proved momentous in their
community. Angelou later states Oh, it was important, all right. White folks would
attend the ceremony, and two or three would speak of God and home, and the
Southern way of life (Angelou, 2014, p. 181). The school making a minute event
into a grand celebration conveys much about the state of the position African
Americans were subjected to. Angelou displays this later when she describes the
scene of small children presented in a play about buttercups and daisies and bunny
rabbits and older girls preparing snacks and beverages. Normal society does not make
such an event of Middle School

The Civil War inspired Walt Whitman to write another great literature Drum Taps.
The news of his younger brother s wounded in the war made him go down to
Washington. The scenery of wounded soldiers in the hospital moved his heart to stay
and volunteer as a nurse. His interaction with the patients inspired him to write

Gator Tail Concert Report Sample
On September 12th, Gator Tail, a jazz band consisting of faculty members,
performed at Kimbrough Hall. This concert was the first in a series of WSU Faculty
Artist concerts that are being held throughout the year. Gator Tail is a jazz band,
composed of four faculty members, with both blues and funk influences, giving it a
more modern sound. One unique aspect of the band was the use of a Hammond
organ. Organs are not typically seen in jazz bands, and Gator Tail s unique sound
comes from this instrument. During the concert, there were many solo parts played
by all the instruments. For example, Greg Yasinitsky, the saxophonist, would often
have solo parts during a song, and one of the other instruments would respond with
another solo part, exemplifying the call and response technique. The concert was
completely made up of original compositions written by the members of the band.
While each composition was written by members, each song had their own individual
sound and style, making the music interesting to listen to. One composition,
Undercurrent composed by Brad Ard, was heavily influenced by Norwegian jazz,
giving it a unique sound that made it stand out from the other compositions. Teo

Since it was held on campus, it was convenient for students to come, as well as
other faculty members and members of the Pullman community. The concert was
well attended; however, I do think that if the concert was better advertised there
would have been more people in attendance. I did not know there were concerts so
often until I took this course and I think many students would be interested in going
if they knew about the concerts. The audience enjoyed the concert, and I personally
enjoyed how each composition had a story to go with it. For example, Partial Eclipse
got its name because Greg Yasinitsky finished composing it during the eclipse this

Citizens develop this law to satisfy their wants and fears as individuals in the
society as citizens live by their common interest but this sense of fear as holds the
society in place together. Municipals law is about formulation, developing tools
that have strength in numbers, establishes that all of us work together. It is then
defined how parts obey the whole, so the whole can be possible. Without a
superior authoritative, we fall into isolation because we need the supreme who
govern us of what is right and forbid what is wrong or Superior to the inferior,
meaning, the whole to the part or state to the individual, which gives respect of
their existence as citizens and the state not about citizen s being a creature of God.
The municipal law must be a general, it must be more than just an advice, and it
must not be dependent by will of an individual. Both the willing and the unwilling
must follow the law. It is a human free will. It is not an agreement; it must establish
the bases of authority. However, acting and free will differentiate. We must not act
but free will and opinion to say anything must be allowed. It is therefore, limited and
gives us certain rights to community to allow some possible speech. The law is not
something that not found from the state but it applies to everyone. It must be made
public and presented to the public ahead of time and the rules have to come from a

Benefits Of Social Networking Systems Essay
3.2.Benefits of Social Networking Systems There are many benefits associated with

Behavioral Learning Strategies Used During Instruction
And...
One behavioral learning strategy used during instruction and learning comes from
operant conditioning theory. This theory involves positive or negative
reinforcement or punishment, which focuses on strengthening or weakening of
voluntary behavior (Hoy 2012). Operant conditioning has played a huge role in
enhancing my own learning. I personally use negative reinforcement consistently
throughout my learning process. For example, I study many hours for exams and
work diligently on assignments and experiments to remove the aversive
consequence of failing or not doing well on my schoolwork. Studying and working
hard in all my classes has greatly enhanced my learning in terms of my educational
goals as well as knowledge about myself and how to push myself to extend beyond
what I assumed were my limits. By studying and working hard, I have been able to
achieve great knowledge in the foundations of biology and have gained admiration
and respect for the discipline, which in return encourages me to continue learning and
thus enhances my learning. During my fieldwork experience, I observed a few
behavioral strategies used during instruction that seemed to have a positive effect on
the classroom as a whole. This type of observation did not just occur one time, it
occurs continuously throughout all the observations I have witnessed. I will focus on
a particular example of a discussion that occurred during a lecture on speciation, when
the teacher used positive reinforcement to
Essay On Deportation In The Military
Ultimately, anyone who serves in the United States military should receive automatic
and unconditional citizenship. Everyday there are hundreds of immigrants serving in
every branch of the military, but not one of them is promised citizenship. Anyone
who wears our uniform, fights to defend our constitution and is an American soldier
should never be subjected to deportation. However, our current immigration policy
doesn t even allow a judge to consider a defendant s militaryservice. Under the
Immigration and Nationality Act there is a requirement of mandatory detainment and
the removal of immigrants who have committed and been convicted of aggravated
felonies. The hole in this act that allows U.S. veterans to be deported needs to be
adjusted by our lawmakers and members of congress.

This bill expanded the variety of criminal charges and convictions that would result
in the eligibility of deportation. Under these current laws, The Department of
Homeland Security is not even required to keep track of the number of veterans
being deported. There are a number of legislation efforts taking place that are
working to abolish the deportation of any service members. Democratic
Congressman Juan Vargas of San Diego has introduced a series of bills that would
hold the requirement of every branch in the military to have a naturalization office at
all sites of basic training. Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois and
Nevada Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto are also proposing legislation
that would get a better handle on the tracking of our immigrant veterans, their
deportation, and allocate resources to help ensure that qualified military members in
Nevada and across the country receive the guidance and support they need on their
pathway to

  • 2. Icarus, By Edward Field Essay Kylie Slaten Ms. Thompson Ap Literature Period 2 2 November, 2015 Icarus In the poem Icarus by Edward Field is alluding to the myth of Icarus and Daedalus which is set in a contemporary setting. The poem takes a spin on the myth were instead of Icarus drowning, he is set in today s world as the fall of the great hero, nothing but an ordinary man. It reveals that Icarus cannot handle being just ordinary and wishes he had drowned. (line 30). Through imagery, diction and irony Fields uses a contemporary setting to convey the life of Icarus who is living as a man who once achieved greatness. Edward Fields uses the setting to connect the imagery of the poem which sets the tone and shows how Icarus is living in a new society. The first stanza describes the tragic death of Icarus. Then the third stanza shows how Icarus is living in his new life. The first stanza is describing Icarus s death at a crime scene, where there were witnesses. so the report filed and forgotten in the archives. (line 6). This line shows that Icarus was forgotten about, what happened at the scene did not mean much to the people that were there as they ran off to a gang war (5). Then in stanza three where the setting changes to a more contemporary, current societal lifestyle where Mr Hicks who is aging in the suburbs and living as the hero who fell. to the middling stature of the merely talented. (line 20). This shows that Icarus is now one of the regular people, nothing

The existence of alcohol can play a major role in the influence on theme and contexts within any story. The characters in the story Hills Like White Elephants for instance, were heavily intoxicated throughout the short story. Because of this, the characters choices and actions towards one another are not the same to what they actually are thinking and feeling. And this plays a major role in the story s outcome. And throughout the story the American and Jig, Drinks Absinthe, which can only be described as neutral spirits distilled from grain and flavored with anise. But the direct, licorice like taste and the smell heady, rich, a little brazen instantly evoke an idyllic drowsiness. (Lanier) The girl is quoted saying Everything tastes of licorice. Popular Music And Its British Identity Popular music and its British identity in interwar period (1918 1939) Student s Name Grade Course Tutor s Name Date Abstract: The essay examines evolution of popular music, experiences and how the public understood it between 1918 and 1939. During this period, a national culture dance was developed in England. Evolution process was marked with transformation of popular dance forms, affordable and easily dances places and a national wide dancing practice. Evolvement of a dance culture was instrumental in creation of a national identity. People understood what it meant to be British. Change in occasions such as fashion, war music and social upheavals all played an important role in influencing the dancing scene. He observed that external forces influenced performance as well as evolution of dancing (Sylvester, 1927). Rather than concentrating how dancing was influenced by occurrences such as war or change of fashion, this essay

In Praise Of Not Knowing By Tim Kreker Summary Are you at an age where you can remember a time before the internet, where you would have to search through stacks of books or encyclopedias to find the information that you want? Some of you may be thinking Yes, thank god for google! and others may be thinking Oh, the horror! I can t imagine surviving without it! . But there are the few that reminisce about the time when you couldn t find whatever information you were looking for in a matter of minutes. Unlike many, Tim Kreider looks back on the times before the internetwith fondness, and thinks that our easy access to information has had some negative side effects. Once one question is finally answered it can raise more like you often see in mystery novels. If someone got bored of something just because they learned the explanation for it then that shows they were never really interested to begin with. If someone is truly interested in a topic looking it up could not only answer some of their questions it could make them like it even more and improve their interest in it. In addition if someone is curious about something but wants to keep that curiosity to maintain that. Just because everyone has access to the internet doesn t mean everyone uses it. The other issue with Kreider s argument is that it seems to promote ignorance. We ve been taught that knowledge is power and the internet is all the knowledge people have accumulated over the years. The fact that we have access to gives us the ability to become better and smarter and improve ourselves. We can find many helpful and important tips that could help you with life and other things you might experience. If you re also unsure about something you were sharing with someone you could confirm if you were actually correct or not and not just guess. If we didn t have the internet and weren t able to access information everyone would be relying on conjecture instead of actual facts. When people are interested in an event, time, or person and talk about it with others, others might disagree on what actually happened you can easily figure out what is true and what is not. In

If you guys would want a hand to work for nothing just his keep, why IВґd come anВґ lend a hand. I ainВґt so crippled I canВґt work like a son of a bitch if I want to, is an example of CrooksВґ loneliness as he proposes to work for George and Lennie if they buy a ranch of their own. He tries to reassure Lennie that he can still work hard despite his disability. He wants to join George and LennieВґs dream to counteract his loneliness. This is emphasised by the fact that he is willing to work for just a bed and some food and go without wages. They say I stink. Well, I tell you, you all of you stink to me, is a possible reference to CarlsonВґs remark about CandyВґs dog. This gives the impression that the general idea within the ranch is that Crooks is inferior to the others. • 12. Expectancy Theory The expectancy theory by Victor Bloom is based on the believe that organizational employees act in a certain way based on the strength of an outcome and how attractive the outcome is to the individual. The theory contains three main relationships and when all three are maintained the desired behavior from the employee will be achieved. These three relationships are effort performance (Expectant probability), performance reward (Instrumentality probability) and rewards personal goals (Valence). In the effort performance relationship or expectancy the employee must believe that if they perform in a certain manner that they will indeed increase their performance and thus make goals obtainable. In order for the employee to actually... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then to gain interest in the rewards, there needs to be an overhaul of the reward system itself. There needs to be variety in the rewards. A poll could be taken of the employees and ask them what would be fair rewards for met goals. The employer could take the majority opinion of the poll and offer the result as a reward or offer options of rewards either by individuals or by group. The rewards must be of value to the employee that is the bottom line. The company needs to have transparency in the new goal and reward program. That will make sure there is confidence and fairness in the reward program. Employees must see that the achievers are being rewarded while the underachievers are not. This tangible difference must be known and visible to reinforce that things are now different and effort is awarded. This aspect addresses the instrumentality relationship aspect of the expectancy theory. To accommodate those employees that are motivated by recognition, individual rewards that include company wide recognition should be established in addition to the monetary or benefit rewards. Team recognition awards could also be established. This would create a little friendly competition while providing openly displayed performance numbers which in turn provides positive feedback for increased performance. By making sure that the reward system has value and makes the employee desire to make the goal and

In the United States alone, nine people are killed and over one thousand are injured every day in a car accident involving a distracted driver. Distracted driving is responsible for the majority of accidentsthat take place in the state of California. The rapidly increasing rate of fatality occurring in California proves distracted drivinghas become a fatal epidemic. Alike a disease that has the ability to wipe out an entire population, distracted driving has proven to be equally as devastating. Many people may argue that the laws currently in place in California is all that can be done to eliminate or minimize the trauma that results from the issue. Although, the thousands of people who have lost their loved ones to car accidents involving a distracted driver would have to disagree. The state of California certainly has not done enough to prevent distracted driving nor enforce punishment upon those responsible. At first glance, many people believe that the state of California has done enough to prevent distracted driving. California has multiple laws currently in effect that prevent and limit distracted driving. California governor, Jerry Brown, has addressed the issue that continues to escalate as fatalities multiply. He has stated his opinions and plans for further prevention and action to be taken. Most recently, Brown signed the Assembly Bill 1785 that

Kant s first proposition is an action has moral worth only if it is done out of duty, such as when someone who has absolutely no interest in donating to the poor does so out of duty. His second proposition is that action has moral worth not because of its aim, but because of the maxim on which it is based, meaning that it would not matter if the intent failed, as long as the principle was good. His third proposition is that duty is the necessity of an action from respect for the law, such as if an individual is in an embarassing spot, they could will the lie, but not will the maxim to lie. Kant argues that everything is secretly done in self benefit, an example can be an individual helping another merely for the fulfilled feeling. Comparing Kantian aspects to Minority Report can be done with ease. Kant s second proposition, that an action has moral worth because of its maxim, can be further understood in the Pre crime stance. The Pre crime organization is in place in order to stop murders. Individuals, such as Anderton, are sought out to be arrested before they even comprehend the crime. However, Kant would argue that the arrest is valid due to the fact that they are capable of such an intention, even if the act was not committed. The RAE is the effect of smoking on the asbestos effect expressed as the ratio of the risk ratio due to asbestos exposure in non smokers (RR01) to that in smokers (RR11). This measure is used to examine the heterogeneity of asbestos effect across categories of smoking status, to determine if there is effect measure modification. If the asbestos effect is the same for non smokers as for smokers, then the RAE is equal to one, whereas a value greater than one indicates that the effect of asbestos is greater in non smokers than in smokers (negative multiplicative interaction), and vice versa (27). • 36. Persuasive Essay About National Park Something about national parks is extremely engaging to me. The National Park Service, under the U.S. Department of the Interior, created our nation s national parks. The parks are owned by the federal government and yet were created for the people. These parks, all places of beauty, were set aside in the name of the conservation movement of the early 1900 s. National parks represent a deep part of American History and they hold very deep meaning in my own heart. I could talk about national parks and the National Park Service for hours to anyone curious enough to listen. This concept of what national parks represent and what they mean to me and to all Americans makes me lose all track of time. I m very captivated by national parks for a... I don t mean I want to be famous someday, I simply mean that I want to live a life that I am proud of. Learning about the national sparks and the National Park Service teaches me so many things. As far as learning about history of the National Park Service, I turn to researching and reading. Reading chapters from John Muir s novel, The Yosemite, helps me see how radical his ideas of conservation were for his time at the turn of the 19th century. Reading online journals, online encyclopedias, and works from other supporters of national parks, such as Gifford Pinchot and Theodore Roosevelt, teach me the history behind the ideas of national parks. Despite all of my research, however, I believe the best way to learn more about national parks is to actually go out and view them. Being able to see, in person, these amazing places, rather than just reading about them, helps me understand the significance of the parks. The closest national park from my home is Acadia National Park and it is eight hours away, making it difficult to visit these places. However, I still believe the trips are very worthwhile. In the summertime, my family and I try to visit

Difference Between Civil Liberties And Civil Rights Gautam 6 Kriti Gautam Professor Sherry Sharifian Federal Government 2305 71433 7 October 2017 Civil Liberties and Civil Rights Fundamentals to the US Constitution Civil liberties are The fundamental individual rights of a free society, such as freedom of speech and the right to a jury trial, which in the United States are protected by the Bill of Rights (Patterson 126). 1 Civil rights are rights for freedom and equality. The main difference between civil liberties and civil rights is that civil rights pertain to how people treat others, and civil liberties pertain to the actual freedom that individuals enjoy. They are similar in that they both promote the protection of freedom in the constitution. Civil rights have had more influence on my life, because, as a minority, life would have been so different without civil rights. Also, if not everyone can enjoy civil liberties through civil rights, then there might as well be no Bill of Rights to protect the fundamental human rights. The courts weigh in any time there is a dispute regarding civil rights or liberties; for example, the civil liberties court case, Byrd v. United States, deals with the Third Amendment, which is in the Bill of Rights. 2 This court case raises the question about whether a driver should expect privacy in a rental car that he/she has permission to drive, but is not an authorized driver on the rental agreement ( Byrd v. United States 1). The court ruled that a person who has permission to drive a rental

The unfamiliar environment leaves family members in severe stress and in a state of shock. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Second step in meeting the needs, is remaining near the patient. The desire to link and maintain familial relationships helps. It brings a family closer while at the same time support is given to the patient. Since being in ICU is an unexpected event, many time family members depend of the nurses to be near the patients. In ICU the nurses have a ratio usually of 1:2. As an intervention to have this need met, tell family members of the flexible visiting hours. Inform them of the visiting hours, timing of visitors, and the visitors permitted. They are informed of the unit routine and patient care needs. The ICU should establish practice guidelines for family visiting that incorporate patient and family needs for proximity, maintain family relationships, and allow family to support the patient (Kirchhoff, Pugh, Calame and Reynold, 1993). Research demonstrates that flexible, inclusive, and open visiting that is responsive to patient, family, and care is beneficial to all parties (Titler, 1998). Receiving information is the third family need. The critical care nurse should assess the knowledge the family has and needs. Let the family members know that it would be best to choose a designated family member to inform everyone of any changes and keep everyone in the family circle informed of the patient s progress. Giving the patients family information will give them a sense of control and help reduce their anxiety. The last needs are

Despite the degree to which individuals stand alike, differences in opinions and beliefs will transpire. This chapter taught me that it does not stand as the topic of disagreement that retains importance, but rather the way in which the couple resolves the conflict. According the text, six steps exist to aid in conflict resolution; The steps are: (1) clarifying the issue; (2) finding out what each person wants; (3) identifying various alternatives; (4) deciding how to negotiate; (5) solidifying agreements; and (6) reviewing and renegotiating (Olson, DeFrain, Skogrand, 2014, p. 154). Upon reading the descriptions and facts, I find these six steps to rest highly effective and imperative to conflict resolution. When a disagreement emerges, couples tend to play the blame game, ignore their parent s perspective, and explore for a quick solution. While it stands evident that these behaviors do not persist effective, these six steps provide a solution. Although I do find these six steps to exist accurate, I cannot guarantee how realistic they stand. Just as any other process, to remain realistic, the steps require two individuals who value their relationships and desire its continuation. This process requires individuals to not only voice their opinion, but also to clarify, identify, and negotiate this issue at hand. These steps will not occur with ease or speed, but they will sanction for the complete resolution of

Despite being free for decades, they were still leagues below the white people who owned their ancestors. African American author Maya Angelou recollects on her experience of graduation from the eighth grade in her 1940 piece Graduation Day. The narrative not only highlights the importance of the narrator s graduation, but also the expectations of Angelou s community due to their persecution and separation. Perseverance through separation and persecution forges dignity in an individual. The separation of the African American displays the importance of graduation day. Angelou was only graduating from the eighth grade, but because of the sociocultural differences, graduation proved momentous in their community. Angelou later states Oh, it was important, all right. White folks would attend the ceremony, and two or three would speak of God and home, and the Southern way of life (Angelou, 2014, p. 181). The school making a minute event into a grand celebration conveys much about the state of the position African Americans were subjected to. Angelou displays this later when she describes the scene of small children presented in a play about buttercups and daisies and bunny rabbits and older girls preparing snacks and beverages. Normal society does not make such an event of Middle School

This theory involves positive or negative reinforcement or punishment, which focuses on strengthening or weakening of voluntary behavior (Hoy 2012). Operant conditioning has played a huge role in enhancing my own learning. I personally use negative reinforcement consistently throughout my learning process. For example, I study many hours for exams and work diligently on assignments and experiments to remove the aversive consequence of failing or not doing well on my schoolwork. Studying and working hard in all my classes has greatly enhanced my learning in terms of my educational goals as well as knowledge about myself and how to push myself to extend beyond what I assumed were my limits.
