Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes is known as the World s Greatest Detective; however, Irene Alder
may just be the only person, male or female, that has ever defeated Holmes thinking
machine of a brain. In his short story, A Scandal in Bohemia, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
challenges traditional social perceptions and gender assumptions toward British
women in the 1890 s by creating tension with his characterization of female
antagonist, Irene Alder, as a powerful intellectual equal to male protagonist, Sherlock
Holmes. Irene, or The Woman, as she is known in future Sherlock Holmes stories, is
a surprisingly full character with a quick wit and amazingly sharp manipulation
skills. She is characterized as a elegant and talented opera singer from New Jersey

She is a powerful, intelligent Victorian woman, with a mind of her own, which is
unusual for the times. Irene Alder torments Sherlock s brilliant mind in subsequent
Sherlock Holmes stories. He never really recovers from being out witted and
manipulated by a woman with superior intellect to his own. Eventually, Sherlock
Holmes asks the King only for her photograph as payment for his services. He
holds her in a place of reverence, as an intellectual equal. John Watson remarks, To
Sherlock Holmes she is always THE woman. I have seldom heard him mention her
under any other name, (pg. 1). She was a triple threat to the male gender, a rare
combination of unforgettable beauty, undeniable grace and unsurpassed intellect.
Irene Alder is a woman to remember: strong, bright and capable of
Alexander The Great Royal Tapestry
For my museum experience I went to the Getty in Los Angeles. I ended up going
around noon this past Sunday on April 10th because of my awesome time
management skills (I m a huge procrastinator). I was supposed to go with Katie,
Sachy, and Victoria as a group, but they re fake so we all ended up going at
different times.Victoria and Sachy had already gone to a museum over spring
break so Katie and I were going to go to the Getty together but that ended up not
happening because her mom is also fake so I went by myself; she ended up going
to the LACMA that day. Oh and I saw on snapchat that Luis, the class overachiever,

The heavy usage of gold around the frame is used to make Alexander the Great
seem even more noble than he already is. The usage of gold on the frame like
device also gives this painting a more sophisticated look. Equally important, like I
touched on earlier, the position of the human figures in this painting also play an
important role in making this historical event biased. The human bodies are
clustered and below Alexander the Great s eye level to show dominance and
authority. The Getty also mentions that the text near the bottom of the painting in the
cartouche translates to It is for a king to vanquish himself which includes King
Louis XIV. Other hidden symbols that reference King Louis XIV are the Latin
motto of King Louis XIV in the side and top borders which translate to Not Unequal

XIV symbol. This demonstrates the artist s bias towards representing this historical
Alvarez Hypothesis
The Alvarez hypothesis is the most popular hypothesis, there is to be for the
extinction of the dinosaurs. This is due to the fact that this theory has lots of
scientific proof to support its theory.
There is a crater that is approximately 150 kilometers in width. Experts have analyzed
this crater and have come to a conclusion that an asteroid that had a width of 10
kilometers crashed at Chicxulub on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico around about 65
million years ago (this around the same time the dinosaurs went extinct. (Pilkington,
2001)
If the asteroid had hit, most of the cretaceous plants would have been destroyed thus
the dinosaurs at the bottom of the food chain would soon have died due to lack of
food. This led to the dinosaurs at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Experts have found extra iridium (an element) in the soil asteroids are commonly
known to have extra iridium. The theory is that once the asteroid hit the surface of
the earth fragments of the asteroid were spread around. (Pilkington, 2001)
Experts have found fractured crystals also known as shocked quartz between the soil
layer that was close to the time of the extinction of the dinosaurs. These crystals have
arrangement in them which can only be made by great collisions or eruptions.
(Pilkington, 2001)
The soil layer from the time of the extinction of the dinosaurs has been analyzed by
experts and they have found a lot of ash. This is another sign that, after the asteroid
hit the Earth, there was a massive fire that took out most of the plants and trees on
Earth. (Hartmann, n.d)
Experts have calculated that an asteroid of the size that hit the Earth 65 million years
can hit the Earth approximately every 100 million years. (Hartmann, n.d)
There are theories that remains of the asteroid caused a storm filled with fireballs in
the sky, which led to temperatures increasing. In some places the temperature reached
boiling point which would have kill quite a few animals and plants. There are also
theories that the high temperatures could have started enormous
Network Society Theory By Maneul Castells
In this essay, I will analyse the Network society theory by Maneul Castells. My
essay consists of three main parts: the first one is theory s key points summary, the
second is critical evaluation of merits and limitations, and the last one is a specific
application from Asia context. According to Castells, our society transformed from
the Industrial Age into the Information Age. The term network society refers to the
social structure which is formed and dominated by microelectronic based information
and communication technologies (Castells 2004). He also claimed that a network is
a system consisted of various interconnected nodes, from which communication
occurs. Nodes helps the network function by contributing information and process
them more effectively (Castells 2005). Communication via this network is not
restricted in term of space as Catells stated that space in the network society is
disparate from the space in astrophysics. To support his statement, he proposed a
concept of real virtuality along with space of flows and timeless time . He
conceptualized a new term of spatial named space of flow which is the central to his
network society theory (Webster 2006). This flow of information empowered distant
and concurrent communication, regardless where or who involved in, while the space

Castells explained the term as all people who can access and manage ICTs, which can
create misunderstanding since this definition can be understood as almost everyone
(Webster 2006). A few more critiques is from sociologist Zygmunt Bauman, as he
said that Castells s theory is too idealistic and utopian about the political, social,
economic and environmental. Or from Frank Webster, who claimed that Castells
emphasized too much on how technology affect social relations, yet neglected how
human shape and influence technologies ( Castells
Ayman Al-Zawahiri Influence
As of 10SEP2015 Ayman al Zawahiri, who took over as leader of al Qaeda after
the death of Osama bin Laden, sent a message accusing the ISIS leader and self
proclaimed caliph Abu Bakr al Baghdadi of sedition, and declared all out war against
the Islamic State however no sooner than five days after this statement Al Zawahiri
extended an olive branch saying that all Muslim s should work together against the
common enemy.
So to say the least these two organizations have complicated relations at best. This
current state of hostility has not always been the case though, at one point though
shaky al Qaeda, and ISIS s precursors were allied. To illustrate this I will take us back
in time to the origins of ISIS and al Qaeda s relationship in Iraq. ... Show more

Though al Zawahiri declared war upon Isis declaring al Baghdadis caliphate
illegitimate also extended an olive branch towards ISIS saying they could work
together. This confusing chain of events could be his way of trying to influence
what he sees as an undisciplined and misguided organization to drift towards his
view of how jihad should be fought, possibly trying to turn ISIS back towards al
Qaeda s leadership in the event of Baghdadis death. There is I believe, a certain
amount of personal animosity between al Zawahiri and al Baghdadi which
prevents them from actively agreeing on what is best for the Muslim world and
how that world should be led and because of this makes cooperation between the
two groups unlikely at this point. However having said this, the very fact that al
Zawahiri is attempting cooperation with ISIS is troubling. He realizes that an
alliance preferably under al Qaeda leadership would strengthen his influence for the
greater battle against the west. An alliance such as this could be devastating for the
west as it could give the platform and funding for the jihadists to launch more
frequent larger scale attacks throughout the world and draw more radicalized
followers to their cause. This is currently an unlikely situation in my view because
ISIS and Al Qaeda are actively competing against each
Malcolm Forbes Research Paper
Diamonds are nothing more than chunks of coal that stuck to their jobs.
Malcolm Forbes
Malcolm Forbes was an American entrepreneur most prominently known for being
the publisher of Forbes magazine. He was an avid promoter of capitalism and was
known for having an extravagant lifestyle, throwing large parties, traveling around
the world, and his collection of homes, yachts, aircraft, art, motorcycles, and
FabergГ© eggs. In 1964 he acquired total control of the magazine. It grew steadily
under his control, and he also diversified into real estate. Being the head of the
richest people magazine, Forbes had a net worth of over $440 million. For his 70th
birthday he threw a blowout party on his private island in Morocco.
It takes thousands of years and tremendous amounts of pressure to turn coal into
diamonds. People who stay committed to their goals will always achieve what they
are going for. Successful people do whatever it takes to achieve their life goals. For
them to do this, they must have tenacity and commitment. They will work toward
their goals even if they tired. They do what has to be done, not what they feel like
doing at the time. Being successful is a journey not a destination. Successful people
see themselves as works in progress. They are never finished becoming what they
strive to be. Setting long term goals will help with future goals. The old successes
can be used as a springboard to bigger successes. ... Show more content on

The Power Of Dark Love
The Power of Dark Love The speaker in Porphyria s Lover says, That moment she
was mine, mine, fair, perfectly pure and good (Browning, lines 36 37). Both Robert
Browning and Edgar Allan Poe share a love for the themes of obsession, desire, and
complicated love. Each of those three themes play an important role in dark love
poetry. Each poet describes the main character in their poems as a woman worthy of
the speaker s obsessive, complicated, and desirable love. Both Robert Browning s
tragic Porphyria s Lover and Edgar Allan Poes mysterious Annabel Lee explore the
theme of dark and obsessive love through their use of imagery, alliteration, and
mood throughout the poems. At the early age of five, Robert Browning was a
very profound child being that he was already extremely knowledgeable in the arts
of reading and writing. He was a very anxious student and continued to learn many
languages by the age of fourteen. In 1833, Browning published Pauline and in
1840 he published Sordello but both were sadly known as a failure. He even
attempted to publish several plays but they were all unsuccessful. Browning did
not become successful until he published his collection of poems Men and Women
in 1855. In 1842, Browning published Porphyria s Lover, which is also a successful
poem ( Robert Browning ). In Porphyria s Lover, the speaker is watching and
waiting for Porphyria on a cold, stormy night. Once Porphyria has returned, she lights
the fire, takes off her warm

Disadvantages Of Food Deserts
Grocery Incubators More than 20 million people live in food deserts, areas where at
least a third of the population lives more than one mile from the nearest grocery store
(10 miles in rural areas). Without a supermarket in the vicinity, food desert residents
must get their meals from whatever options are around often fast foodjoints and
corner stores. Burger Kings and bodegas aren t exactly hitting the highlights of the
food pyramid. Enter supermarketboosters like the Detroit Grocery Incubator Project.
Part of Michigan s Fair Food Network, the incubator aims to combat food deserts
by increasing the number of supermarkets in Detroit neighborhoods. The initiative
provides local entrepreneurs with on the job training and coursework on how to
open and operate a successful grocery store. The incubator project also helps
secure investors to allow entrepreneurs to open supermarkets in food deserts.
Added bonuses: job creation, business development, and expanded food access in
economically depressed Detroit. Healthy Corner Stores In the absence of grocery
stores and farmers markets, bodegas and corner stores serve as the central food
source in many low income communities. Most of these shops are rife with
packaged, processed fare like Twinkies, chips, and frozen dinners. Initiatives like the
Healthy Corner Stores Network aim to diversify bodegas offerings. The network and
its more than 600 members support plans to expand corner stores stock to include

the striking deep sea creatures would be a giant octopus. This octopus is depicted as a

After that in 1960, the Bathyscaphe Trieste reached the deepest known depth in the

depth of the Challenger Deep reached. If the highest mountain, Mount Everest (about
29,000 feet), was submerged to the depth explored by the Challenger Deep, its peak
would be more than a mile beneath the surface. (The Official U.S. Navy Museums).
As time passed, the technology of submergence surprisingly developed, and now most
of the submergence is conducted with unman probes.@@
A unique environment exists in the deep sea which is totally different from the sea
that people normally can experience. Then, why is the environment so different
between deep sea and the surface of the sea? There are three major factors that make
the deep sea so mysterious and unique: light, temperature, and pressure.
According to the blog of Marine Bio tech, the deep sea is cloaked in perpetual
darkness because light cannot penetrate the great amount of water. Therefore, in
order to adapt to the dark environment, most of the fish have larger than average
tubular eyes with only rod cell. Also, many deep sea organisms, even bacteria,
developed bioluminescence, which is a visible light made by living creatures. Some

Women And Their Roles During The Second Industrial
Revolution
Women and Their Roles in the Second Industrial Revolution When discussing history,
it is often assumed that the history of men is also the history of women. Historians
often forget that women constantly experience historical processes differently
because of the roles that they play and their biological differences. The second
Industrial Revolutionaffected women uniquely, and their involvement and
contributions were distinctive as well. The second Industrial Revolution lead to many
advantages and disadvantages for women, it changed the types of work women
performed, changed their attitudes about working, men s attitudes towards them
working, and their status and function in the family structure was transformed as
well. Along with the technical and economic advancements during the Industrial
Revolution was a social change that occurred for women, being the impetus for more
progressive movements, empowerment, and the fight for equality in a patriarchal
society. Throughout time, there have been many revolutions; the Puritan Revolution,
the French Revolution, Urban Revolution, Commercial Revolution, Scientific
Revolution, and Computer Revolution to name just a few. Of all these nonpolitical
revolutions, the one with the longest and widest currency is doubtless the Industrial
Revolution (Stewart, pg. 1). It is important to understand the historical background of
the revolutions to make more sense of why women held the roles they did and how
things really changed for them.

expansions and falls during recessions (Mishkin, 108).
During a recession income and wealth decrease, as a result there is an inward shift
of the demand curve for bonds. This shift results in an increase in interest rates.
When the economy is booming there is an increase in the demand for bonds. This
increase in bond demand shifts the demand right from P1 to P2, this shift will

How Does Priestley Present Eva
How does Priestley present Sheila s developing awareness of her part in Eva s
death? J.B. Priestley brings Sheila in mid way of act 1 as she is unaware to the
situation, after asking what is happening Sheila gasps at the shock of Eva s suicide
showing how unexpected her death was and how unaware she was of the situation.
The quote Oh how horrible! shows how distraught Sheila was and the fact that
Sheila did not even know of the death shows at this point she had no idea that she
had a part in Eva s death let alone any of her family. Although her father thought that
the Inspector when explaining the situation to Sheila implied that his dismissal of
Eva from his workplace was the start to why Eva had committed suicide and to that

Priestley presents Sheila s awareness to Eva Smith s death by using the technique
of repetition, as though the Inspector was trying to make Sheila remember Eva as
the woman she had fired from Milwards. Priestley uses the repetition of pretty very
pretty also as irony as that is the reason Eva had been fired, although the manager
had not known Eva was fired over jealousy, Sheila had threated the manager that if
they did not rid the place of the girl her and her mother would never return to the
shop again. The repetition of pretty very pretty shows Sheila s self consciousness
and jealousy towards Eva s beauty and shows the audience Sheila s true character at
the start of the play which was a lady who abused her high status as a wealthy
customer when she insisted for the manager to dismiss Eva .The dash in between
pretty very pretty shows a pause and this as well as the repition of pretty seems as
though the Inspector is trying to emphasise on Eva and her beauty to help Sheila
develop awareness of her part in Eva s death as well as show how insignificant a
thing Sheila had gotten upset over and what large consequences it had. The
Inspector makes Sheila subtly aware of Eva Smith s physical appearance which
could have nudged Sheila to the truth that she had a part in Eva s death and as well
as her father who had fired Eva at her first job Sheila was at fault as

Medea s Abuse Of Power
Euripides infanticidal re imagining of the Medea myth continues to arouse
controversy more than a millennia since it was penned in the fifth century BC. A key
reason it does so is because of the way in which Euripides challenges and offends
what are still, even in the 21st century, traditional notions of motherhood. As such,
Euripidesinfuses his work with a great deal of ambiguity about Medeas tragic
downfall. Medea finds herself with extraordinary amounts of power coming about
from not tolerating others and therefore dominating those around her. Medea
dominates others to be in a position of power, when that position of power is taken
away from her she reverts to harming anyone who opposed her. Medea s cunning and
cleverness, that leads her to dominate others and making people do what she wants.

The Importance Of Listening In Early Childhood Education
The pedagogy of listening is one that is closely intertwined with early childhood
education (ECE) and, within this context, it is acknowledged as being more than
the word itself implies. Listening in an early childhood setting is not merely to
hear what a child says and act on it, rather, it is to open yourself to different
perspectives and be willing to not only act on but also adopt new ways of thinking
(Davies, 2014). To truly use this as an effective pedagogyis to turn the act of listening
into an intentional and meaningful interaction (MacNaugton Williams, 2010). In
doing so, relationships you are forming with everyone that you interact with be they
two feet tall and in nappies or fully grown and in uniform can only be strengthened
as you show them the respect and reciprocity that is needed to achieve meaningful
bonds (Gonzalez Mena Widmeyer Eyer, 2018).
It is through listening that the Graduating Teacher Standards (GTS) relevant to
personal values and relationships can be met and thoroughly explored. GTS 6a, for
example, requires teachers to recognise how different values and beliefs impact
learning (Education Council New Zealand / Matatu Aotearoa (ECNZ), 2015).
Through listening, we as educators are able to experience and gain some
understanding of the diverse backgrounds and interests that are within the centre and
thus plan appropriate experiences that can accommodate everyone or can be altered
to be inclusive. Every encounter with another person is an

We went on many more camping trips; but never forgot the where my plans were not
so complete. Checklists are good.
It was in the summer of 1999 when my family decided to take a camping trip to
Colorado. I was a typical 15 year old high school student, which meant family
vacations were lame in my eyes.
We left Kansas City after school one Friday and made our way through the very
flat, very uninteresting state of Kansas. I slept the majority of the drive out to the
great land of Colorado. For the first night of our stay, Dad rented a hotel room since
it was dark and too hard to see to pitch the tent.
The next day, we woke up early and left the hotel to enjoy the scenery. We spent a
long day hiking through the mountains, marveling over the work of years and years
millennia even to carve out the intricate patterns and formations of the canyons. As
we grew tired and hungry, we decided to find a camp site and set up camp for the
night.
We found a site at the foothills of Pike s Peak. There were pine trees everywhere.
The woman from the Pine Sol commercial would have considered it her personal

How Did The New Deal Save The Usa Capitalism
The New Deal: Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
After the tragic Stock Market Crash of 1933, America had plunged into a deep
depression. Over 9,000 banks nationwide were closing their doors. After the Stock
Market Crash, President Herbert Hoover was in office working ceaselessly to fix
what was left of the economy. However, his effort did not seem to be enough. In the
election of 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt won by a landslide. Roosevelt stated, This
nation asks for action and action now, and he did just that.(Barbour, 82) He saved
countless families from poverty that was spreading like wildfire across the U.S.
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is a portion of the New Deal

provides protection from diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus. Students at this
age should also get an HPV vaccination. While they will not need protection from
HPV now, it will provide protection from HPV and cancer as the child grows up.
Like younger children, this age group should still have a yearly flu shot. The flu
affects young, healthy people, so children must be vaccinated for it.
College Students
Before children leave for college, they need to a series of immunizations. Tdap
vaccine boosters must be done every 10 years, so many college students will need a
booster in the next few years. While meningococcal and pneumococcal
immunizations are not required, they are recommended by the CDC. Students who
did not get an MMR, HPV, Hepatitis A or Hepatitis B vaccine before will need to get
one now. In addition, students should continue to get their yearly flu shot.
Talk to a Doctor
It is never too late to update a child s immunizations. Each state has different
requirements, and doctors know exactly which vaccines to give for each age group.
By becoming properly vaccinated, parents can make sure that their children stay
healthy during the upcoming school

MARKETING PLAN:
Most are doers and not planners . If we want to do the right marketing activities in the
right way we must start with a marketing plan. For that, marketing planning must be
continuously undertaken to see any shifting market conditions, changing customer
needs, competitive threats as well as potential opportunities.
MARKETING MIX:
Consists of the following 4 elements (Ps ):
Product Price Place (distribution) Promotion
These 4 Ps are the parameters that the marketing managers can control, subject to the
internal and external constraints of the marketing environment. The goal is to make
decisions that center the 4 Ps on the customer customers in the target market in order
to create perceived value and generate a positive response. PRODUCT:
The term product refers to tangible, physical products as well as services. It relates

The Outsider, by Albert Camus and The Assault, by Harry...
Camus and Mulisch present that the past and present are interrelated. The authors do
this through the two characters, Meursault and Anton. Through Meursault, we see
that his past actions affect the outcome of his trial. Through Anton, we see that his
present situation constantly brings him back to his pastdespite him trying to escape it.
Thus the authors stylistically link the past and presentto demonstrate that they are
inevitably related, where certain events are unavoidable or the past is undeniable.
In The Outsider , the society continually brings back Meursault s past actions against
his will, such as his behaviour at his mother s funeral. Under the rule of the French
Colonialists, the French Algerian court is a microcosm of the ... Show more content

Despite this, the society tries to fabricate or impose rational explanations of
Meursault s irrational action. This is evident during the trial process when the
prosecutor rationally explains for Meursault the series of event that happened,
although Meursault himself does not have a solid explanation for his actions. The
prosecutor explains it so well, that even Meursault himself finds it quite plausible .
Anton s past is brought back to him in a different way than Meursault. When Anton
meets Cor Takes he starts repainting the picture of the tragic night. It was fate that
brought Takes to Anton, allowing him to overhear Takes. This brought Anton s past
back to the present by discovering the motives of Takes and was the first timethat he
had cried over what had happened. Before this, he was able to put the past behind
him but was never able to escape it. When it was brought back to him, Takes words
reaches into his heart, and was why he cried. Mulisch shows aspects of the past will
always catch up with the present and it is inescapable. Eventually, Anton comes to
realize that he can never fully escape the past and has to accept the whole truth in
order to find closure and experience true forgetting . Anton thought, ... of how
everything comes to light sooner or later. In time, he would have had to face the truth

As the Concentration of the Sucrose Solution decreases, the more the potato s mass
increases. This is due to the solution being hypertonic. So, as the solute concentration
gets lower, the potato s water concentration will get higher, therefore more water
particles from the solution will absorbed by the potato. Some changed very little in
mass because the concentrations of the H2O molecules in the potato and outside the
potato were equal. This equality in concentration is called Isotonic.
2) When the concentration was at 0.3M, the potato s cytoplasm and the sucrose
solution was isotonic. The concentration of the potato s cytoplasm was having the
same solute concentration as the surroundings. Therefore, there would be no net
movement of materials happening. 3) The mass of the potato cells would decrease,
since the NaCl is a higher concentration than theH20 molecules inside the potato
cells. So, the potato s cells will evacuate and go into the surroundings, making it
shrivel. This is known as a hypotonic solution. 4) The Sucrose molecules cannot pass
through the plasma membrane, but osmosis can still occur. So, the permeability of
the potato s cytoplasm only applies to the H2O molecules. 5) Salt can use as a weed
killer because the salt itself can cause the plant to dehydrate through osmosis. Since
the salt has a higher concentration, it will cause the plants water molecules and
nutrients to be absorbed by the salt, leaving the plant all

Small circular pieces of DNA molecules located inside the nucleoid in bacterial

as Plasmids.Plasmids do not dictate the survival of the host bacteria, but it can give

forming into its own small colonies. No growth is also a possible outcome.
The experiment contained a total of six different petri dishes, each containing
different treatments to the E. coli.
The first petri dish held ampicillin resistance gene, luria broth and E. Coli. This
served as a positive control since there
was basically nothing to stop the E. Coli from growing. The petri dish containing
E.Coli, Luria Broth and ampicillin
with no plasmids provided us with the opposite results. There was no growth. Since
there were no plasmids in the dish
all the E. Coli died hence showing no growth.
In general E. Coli growth was directly proportional to the presence of ampicillin. If it
so happens there was
ampicillin in a petri dish with either the lux or ampicillin resistance gene, the result
would depict a colonial growth.
This is because the ampicillin and plasmid attack one another hence some die and the
others live. On the other hand if
there no ampicillin presents the petri dish would depict a lawn growth, because there
is no ampicillin there to replicate.
Introduction
We began the experiment by adding plasmids, a vector, to the bacteria E. Coli to
see the E. Coli growth with the plasmids in its DNA. Our results will conclude for
us the correlation between the transformation of a plasmid and the growth of E. Coli.

is paramount. Case studies have been conducted to identify early risk factors for
delinquency. There are many programs in the state designed to help youth resist

What are the industry structures and dynamics of the metal can industry?
The industry structure analysis of the metal can industry mainly depends on the
assessment of the five competitive forces which shapes the industry which is
following:
1.Bargaining power of suppliers:
There are three aluminium suppliers who dominate the market which are Alcan
Aluminium, Aloca and Reynold metal. These three world leading companies have
huge bargaining power on can manufacturers as they were responsible for huge part
of production of aluminium market.
2.Bargaining power of customers:
There are four vital companies who play a very important role in the metal industry
and these are Anheuser Busch companies, Pepsico, Coca cola enterprise and Coca
cola company. These companies could have a great bargaining power over can
companies while having multimple suppliers and being able to switch suppliers
which gave the companies more flexibility to choose from if there was any issue
with the price, quality or service.
3.Barriers to entry:
In this case some big companies dominate the whole industry and as a result the small

how director Cattaneo uses his comedic artistry to bring to light these important
issues. In order to grasp the entire meaning of this film, reviewing The Full Monty
while also looking at Marshalls essay and her take on the film. When first thinking
about masculinity and what we traditionally associate with masculinity, some of
the first adjectives to come to mind are strong, powerful, emotionless, provider.
Males in society are held to a very high standard in being such, and this is
immediately challenged at the beginning of The Full Monty. Each of the main
characters is a male who is going through an identity crisis. Gaz, being unable to
provide for his child, Dave being uncomfortable in his body, even Lomper and Guy
s sexuality. This film focuses on these characters working through letting go of what
they are expected to do and being comfortable in a new lifestyle. This struggle of
letting go of society s standards while still clutching them in a comedic fashion carries
this film.
The
Billy Budd Outsider
Herman Melville s Billy Budd is about a young and inexperienced sailor named
Billy Budd. Billy Budd was removed from the Rights of Man, a merchant ship, and
was placed on a warship called the H.M.S. Indomitable. Billy is often referred to as
the Handsome Sailor because he has no physical flaws. However, Billy has a stutter,
a speech impediment, when he is overcome with emotion. The master at arms on the
H.M.S. Indomitable, John Claggart, dislikes Billy Buddand is jealous of his features.
Claggart decides to devote all of his time to damaging Billy s reputation on the ship.
The increasing tensions between John Claggart and Billy Budd result in a decision
that will eventually cost Claggart his life. Billy Budd s foolish action leaves the

Captain Vere is seen as an insider for most of the story because he is well respected
by everyone on the H.M.S. Indomitable. However, Vere begins to be seen as a
social outsider when Billy Budd killed Claggart. Captain Vere s awkward
personality and lack of human connections become evident when he is faced with
this momentous decision. Captain Vere rarely has to face problems at sea because
he is well respected on the war ship. Calhoun emphasizes Captain Vere s status on the
H.M.S. Indomitable by noting Vere s decision to hand Budd forms the moral center
of the novella, does seemingly mark him as an Insider (4). Captain Vere s decision
to obey the law and hang Billy Budd permanently marked him as an insider because
he did not give Billy any special treatment. By treating Billy different than the other
sailors, Captain Vere would have shown favoritism. Captain Vere s decision and the
murder of John Claggart marked Billy Budd as an outsider on the H.M.S.
Indomitable. Captain Vere s status on the H.M.S. Indomitable shifts back and forth
between insider and outsider throughout Billy
The Autobiography of Malcolm X Essay
The Autobiography of Malcolm X By Alex Haley On May 19, 1925 Malcolm
Little was born in Omaha, Nebraska. His father was a Preacher who spoke out
about the unity of black people. Which caused several white racists to strike out
against Malcolm s father and his family violently. His family moved to Lansing,
Michigan where Malcolm, his parents, brothers, and sisters were shot at, burned
out of their home, harassed, and threatened. When Malcolm was 6 years old, his
father was murdered by a white man. After his father s death his mother had a
nervous breakdown and the family got split up by welfare agencies. Malcolm was
placed in a lot of different schools and boardinghouses. He was a good student...

He went to Mecca, known as the Hajj, and this is a religious obligation that every
orthodox Muslim does at least once in a lifetime. On his pilgrimage to Mecca is
where he started looking at things differently. He saw that in the Muslim world the
white man is brotherly. He met with, talked to, and ate with people who in
America were considered white. He now wanted to unite people of all races under
the power of one God and believed that blacks all over the world should join to
combat racism. Malcolm returned from the pilgrimage as El Hajj Malik al
Shabazz. His pilgrimage broadened his outlook on life. During his visit in the
Holy Land he saw all races, all colors in true brotherhood living in unity, living as
one, and worshipping as one. He was questioned about this because in the past he
had preached out that whites were the devil and now he said that he will never be
guilty of that again. His friends are now black, brown, red, yellow, and white, which
includes capitalists, socialists, and communists. He now speaks out to his Harlem
audience about peace and proclaims that he is not a racist in any form, and he doesn
t believe in any form of discrimination or segregation. At the end of the book he
Building a Foundation and Growing As Readers Essay
I personally feel the interactive model would be the best choice for myself. In the
top down model, which I would use frequently, is the concept about reading for
meaning. Comprehension is important; I feel if a student needs to skip a word or
two that they don t know it would be allowed, as long as they can grasp the meaning
of the text. I also love that readingand writingare primarily the mode for instruction.
This is useful, and helpful when teaching kids. It allows for repetition and practice
of reading and writing. However, in some cases especially students who are below
average in their reading skills some strategies need to be provided and mastered
before comprehension can occur. Students need to have prior background knowledge

2.Emergent Literacy is basically the concept that literacy is a process that starts from
birth. Children are constantly growing as readers and writers. What happens in the
classroom influences children s emerging literacy skills and motivations for reading.
Some major questions we need to be aware of with emerging literacy are; what do
students know about print? What reading behaviors or interests do the children have?
What do they still need to learn?
Reading readiness is when children benefit from instructional experiences before
engaging in reading. In the old reading readiness notion most believed that learning
could not take place until maturation happened around 6.5 years old. This is not true
today. Children benefit from instructional reading experiences at the infant level.
I would use both of these models in my classroom I believe that it is important that
reading readiness be incorporated because students have to be engaged in
instructional experiences that the teacher gives in order to become a good reader.
Students are constantly developing and as readers however you have to make sure
the text you are reading is at the appropriate level for students. Some students may
be very gifted and need to be challenged while others may be below the reading level,
or can t read at all. It is up to me as a teacher to find out
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Aluminium
Aluminium, 13th element in periodic table is a silvery white metal. Aluminium is
one of the most widespread metal in the earth s crust, constituting more than 8% of
earth s core mass. Aluminum is one of the world s most abundant metals and after
oxygen and silicon, aluminium is the third most common element present on earth.
Aluminium alloys which are widely used across the globe can be produced in two
different ways:
1.Primary alloys are produced from pure molten aluminium which are melted along
with addition elements to achieve desired properties.
2.Secondary alloys are produced from aluminium material scraps. These scraps are
low cost in nature. These scraps are re melted and are re classifying after adjustment
for main elements to achieve desired properties. These type of alloys generally have
high level of impurities.

Various related outreach activities research programs have several times
communicated benefits of using aluminum in transportation industry Electrical: Due
to its significant weight and cost advantages over copper, aluminum is now
considered as the preferred material for electricity distribution and transmission.
Electronics Appliances: Due to versatile nature of aluminium, usage of aluminium
has been increased multi folds. From Presto Cooker (West Bend s 1970) to latest
electronic gadget (i phone 6s), all share a single, common characteristic, i.e. usage of
aluminium in it.
Other Markets: With the advancement of technology, presently aluminium usage is
also getting extended to solar panel nanotechnology, aluminum air batteries and

Conflict Style Assessment For Michael Rosales
Conflict Style Assessment for Michael Rosales Throughout this semester, we have
learned a great deal about conflict styles in which we may encounter in our lives.
Surely everyone has experienced conflict, but not everyone handles the situation
the same way. This paper is an assessment on how I have dealt with and learned my
own ways of dealing with conflict throughout my life, as well as how others close
to me have dealt with conflicting situations with me. Created by William W.
Wilmot, I was able to utilize these assessments in ways I have never been able to
statistically see how conflict is handled in my inner circle of friends or family. The
assessments that I have taking and given are to four of the people that have been
closest to me in my lifetime. Even though we are very close, being around these
individuals for a while surely brought many conflicts. Now that I was able to
analyze which styles of conflict I used with each person, thanks to Wilmot s
assessments, I can now see the difference in each category of conflict. First I will
be covering my own styles on how I handled any disagreements, arguments, or
conflicts with my most recent ex girlfriend Megan, and my uncle Robert (Rob). The
conflicts covered will not be one single situation but rather all of them as a whole,
since there were so many conflicts throughout my life with these people. I will start
off with Megan. Upon completion of how I handled our conflicting situations, I was
able to see that out of the

Sherlock Holmes Sherlock Holmes is known as the World s Greatest Detective; however, Irene Alder may just be the only person, male or female, that has ever defeated Holmes thinking machine of a brain. In his short story, A Scandal in Bohemia, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle challenges traditional social perceptions and gender assumptions toward British women in the 1890 s by creating tension with his characterization of female antagonist, Irene Alder, as a powerful intellectual equal to male protagonist, Sherlock Holmes. Irene, or The Woman, as she is known in future Sherlock Holmes stories, is a surprisingly full character with a quick wit and amazingly sharp manipulation skills. She is characterized as a elegant and talented opera singer from New Jersey living... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is a powerful, intelligent Victorian woman, with a mind of her own, which is unusual for the times. Irene Alder torments Sherlock s brilliant mind in subsequent Sherlock Holmes stories. He never really recovers from being out witted and manipulated by a woman with superior intellect to his own. Eventually, Sherlock Holmes asks the King only for her photograph as payment for his services. He holds her in a place of reverence, as an intellectual equal. John Watson remarks, To Sherlock Holmes she is always THE woman. I have seldom heard him mention her under any other name, (pg. 1). She was a triple threat to the male gender, a rare combination of unforgettable beauty, undeniable grace and unsurpassed intellect. Irene Alder is a woman to remember: strong, bright and capable of

I ended up going around noon this past Sunday on April 10th because of my awesome time management skills (I m a huge procrastinator). I was supposed to go with Katie, Sachy, and Victoria as a group, but they re fake so we all ended up going at different times.Victoria and Sachy had already gone to a museum over spring break so Katie and I were going to go to the Getty together but that ended up not happening because her mom is also fake so I went by myself; she ended up going to the LACMA that day. The usage of gold on the frame like device also gives this painting a more sophisticated look. Equally important, like I touched on earlier, the position of the human figures in this painting also play an important role in making this historical event biased. The human bodies are clustered and below Alexander the Great s eye level to show dominance and authority. The Getty also mentions that the text near the bottom of the painting in the cartouche translates to It is for a king to vanquish himself which includes King Louis XIV. Other hidden symbols that reference King Louis XIV are the Latin motto of King Louis XIV in the side and top borders which translate to Not Unequal to many [tasks] (The Getty) and the crossed L s at the top to represent King Louis XIV symbol. This demonstrates the artist s bias towards representing this historical

This is due to the fact that this theory has lots of scientific proof to support its theory. There is a crater that is approximately 150 kilometers in width. • 5. Network Society Theory By Maneul Castells In this essay, I will analyse the Network society theory by Maneul Castells. My essay consists of three main parts: the first one is theory s key points summary, the second is critical evaluation of merits and limitations, and the last one is a specific application from Asia context. According to Castells, our society transformed from the Industrial Age into the Information Age. The term network society refers to the social structure which is formed and dominated by microelectronic based information and communication technologies (Castells 2004). He also claimed that a network is a system consisted of various interconnected nodes, from which communication occurs. Nodes helps the network function by contributing information and process them more effectively (Castells 2005). Communication via this network is not restricted in term of space as Catells stated that space in the network society is disparate from the space in astrophysics. To support his statement, he proposed a concept of real virtuality along with space of flows and timeless time . He conceptualized a new term of spatial named space of flow which is the central to his network society theory (Webster 2006). This flow of information empowered distant and concurrent communication, regardless where or who involved in, while the space ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Castells explained the term as all people who can access and manage ICTs, which can create misunderstanding since this definition can be understood as almost everyone (Webster 2006). A few more critiques is from sociologist Zygmunt Bauman, as he said that Castells s theory is too idealistic and utopian about the political, social, economic and environmental. Or from Frank Webster, who claimed that Castells emphasized too much on how technology affect social relations, yet neglected how human shape and influence technologies ( Castells
  • 6. Ayman Al-Zawahiri Influence As of 10SEP2015 Ayman al Zawahiri, who took over as leader of al Qaeda after the death of Osama bin Laden, sent a message accusing the ISIS leader and self proclaimed caliph Abu Bakr al Baghdadi of sedition, and declared all out war against the Islamic State however no sooner than five days after this statement Al Zawahiri extended an olive branch saying that all Muslim s should work together against the common enemy. So to say the least these two organizations have complicated relations at best. This current state of hostility has not always been the case though, at one point though shaky al Qaeda, and ISIS s precursors were allied. To illustrate this I will take us back in time to the origins of ISIS and al Qaeda s relationship in Iraq. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though al Zawahiri declared war upon Isis declaring al Baghdadis caliphate illegitimate also extended an olive branch towards ISIS saying they could work together. This confusing chain of events could be his way of trying to influence what he sees as an undisciplined and misguided organization to drift towards his view of how jihad should be fought, possibly trying to turn ISIS back towards al Qaeda s leadership in the event of Baghdadis death. There is I believe, a certain amount of personal animosity between al Zawahiri and al Baghdadi which prevents them from actively agreeing on what is best for the Muslim world and how that world should be led and because of this makes cooperation between the two groups unlikely at this point. However having said this, the very fact that al Zawahiri is attempting cooperation with ISIS is troubling. He realizes that an alliance preferably under al Qaeda leadership would strengthen his influence for the greater battle against the west. An alliance such as this could be devastating for the west as it could give the platform and funding for the jihadists to launch more frequent larger scale attacks throughout the world and draw more radicalized followers to their cause. This is currently an unlikely situation in my view because ISIS and Al Qaeda are actively competing against each

Women And Their Roles During The Second Industrial Revolution Women and Their Roles in the Second Industrial Revolution When discussing history, it is often assumed that the history of men is also the history of women. Historians often forget that women constantly experience historical processes differently because of the roles that they play and their biological differences. The second Industrial Revolutionaffected women uniquely, and their involvement and contributions were distinctive as well. The second Industrial Revolution lead to many advantages and disadvantages for women, it changed the types of work women performed, changed their attitudes about working, men s attitudes towards them working, and their status and function in the family structure was transformed as well. Along with the technical and economic advancements during the Industrial Revolution was a social change that occurred for women, being the impetus for more progressive movements, empowerment, and the fight for equality in a patriarchal society. Throughout time, there have been many revolutions; the Puritan Revolution, the French Revolution, Urban Revolution, Commercial Revolution, Scientific Revolution, and Computer Revolution to name just a few. Of all these nonpolitical revolutions, the one with the longest and widest currency is doubtless the Industrial Revolution (Stewart, pg. 1). It is important to understand the historical background of the revolutions to make more sense of why women held the roles they did and how things really changed for them.

  • 25. Medea s Abuse Of Power Euripides infanticidal re imagining of the Medea myth continues to arouse controversy more than a millennia since it was penned in the fifth century BC. A key reason it does so is because of the way in which Euripides challenges and offends what are still, even in the 21st century, traditional notions of motherhood. As such, Euripidesinfuses his work with a great deal of ambiguity about Medeas tragic downfall. Medea finds herself with extraordinary amounts of power coming about from not tolerating others and therefore dominating those around her. • 26. The Importance Of Listening In Early Childhood Education The pedagogy of listening is one that is closely intertwined with early childhood education (ECE) and, within this context, it is acknowledged as being more than the word itself implies. Listening in an early childhood setting is not merely to hear what a child says and act on it, rather, it is to open yourself to different perspectives and be willing to not only act on but also adopt new ways of thinking (Davies, 2014). To truly use this as an effective pedagogyis to turn the act of listening into an intentional and meaningful interaction (MacNaugton Williams, 2010). In doing so, relationships you are forming with everyone that you interact with be they two feet tall and in nappies or fully grown and in uniform can only be strengthened as you show them the respect and reciprocity that is needed to achieve meaningful bonds (Gonzalez Mena Widmeyer Eyer, 2018). It is through listening that the Graduating Teacher Standards (GTS) relevant to personal values and relationships can be met and thoroughly explored. GTS 6a, for example, requires teachers to recognise how different values and beliefs impact learning (Education Council New Zealand / Matatu Aotearoa (ECNZ), 2015). Through listening, we as educators are able to experience and gain some understanding of the diverse backgrounds and interests that are within the centre and thus plan appropriate experiences that can accommodate everyone or can be altered to be inclusive. Every encounter with another person is an

It was in the summer of 1999 when my family decided to take a camping trip to Colorado. I was a typical 15 year old high school student, which meant family vacations were lame in my eyes. We left Kansas City after school one Friday and made our way through the very flat, very uninteresting state of Kansas. I slept the majority of the drive out to the great land of Colorado. For the first night of our stay, Dad rented a hotel room since it was dark and too hard to see to pitch the tent. The next day, we woke up early and left the hotel to enjoy the scenery. We spent a long day hiking through the mountains, marveling over the work of years and years millennia even to carve out the intricate patterns and formations of the canyons. Thus the authors stylistically link the past and presentto demonstrate that they are inevitably related, where certain events are unavoidable or the past is undeniable. So, as the solute concentration gets lower, the potato s water concentration will get higher, therefore more water particles from the solution will absorbed by the potato. Some changed very little in mass because the concentrations of the H2O molecules in the potato and outside the potato were equal. This equality in concentration is called Isotonic. 2) When the concentration was at 0.3M, the potato s cytoplasm and the sucrose solution was isotonic. The concentration of the potato s cytoplasm was having the same solute concentration as the surroundings. Therefore, there would be no net movement of materials happening. 3) The mass of the potato cells would decrease, since the NaCl is a higher concentration than theH20 molecules inside the potato cells. So, the potato s cells will evacuate and go into the surroundings, making it shrivel. This is known as a hypotonic solution. 4) The Sucrose molecules cannot pass through the plasma membrane, but osmosis can still occur. So, the permeability of the potato s cytoplasm only applies to the H2O molecules. 5) Salt can use as a weed killer because the salt itself can cause the plant to dehydrate through osmosis. Since the salt has a higher concentration, it will cause the plants water molecules and nutrients to be absorbed by the salt, leaving the plant all

Comprehension is important; I feel if a student needs to skip a word or two that they don t know it would be allowed, as long as they can grasp the meaning of the text. I also love that readingand writingare primarily the mode for instruction. This is useful, and helpful when teaching kids. It allows for repetition and practice of reading and writing. However, in some cases especially students who are below average in their reading skills some strategies need to be provided and mastered before comprehension can occur. Students need to have prior background knowledge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 2.Emergent Literacy is basically the concept that literacy is a process that starts from birth. Children are constantly growing as readers and writers. What happens in the classroom influences children s emerging literacy skills and motivations for reading. Some major questions we need to be aware of with emerging literacy are; what do students know about print? What reading behaviors or interests do the children have? What do they still need to learn? Reading readiness is when children benefit from instructional experiences before engaging in reading. In the old reading readiness notion most believed that learning could not take place until maturation happened around 6.5 years old. This is not true today. Children benefit from instructional reading experiences at the infant level. I would use both of these models in my classroom I believe that it is important that reading readiness be incorporated because students have to be engaged in instructional experiences that the teacher gives in order to become a good reader. Students are constantly developing and as readers however you have to make sure the text you are reading is at the appropriate level for students. Some students may be very gifted and need to be challenged while others may be below the reading level, or can t read at all. It is up to me as a teacher to find out

Aluminium is one of the most widespread metal in the earth s crust, constituting more than 8% of earth s core mass. Aluminum is one of the world s most abundant metals and after oxygen and silicon, aluminium is the third most common element present on earth. Aluminium alloys which are widely used across the globe can be produced in two different ways: 1.Primary alloys are produced from pure molten aluminium which are melted along with addition elements to achieve desired properties. 2.Secondary alloys are produced from aluminium material scraps. These scraps are low cost in nature. These scraps are re melted and are re classifying after adjustment for main elements to achieve desired properties. These type of alloys generally have high level of impurities. Figure 1 schematically shows how primary aluminium from bauxite gets converted into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conflict Style Assessment For Michael Rosales Conflict Style Assessment for Michael Rosales Throughout this semester, we have learned a great deal about conflict styles in which we may encounter in our lives. Surely everyone has experienced conflict, but not everyone handles the situation the same way. This paper is an assessment on how I have dealt with and learned my own ways of dealing with conflict throughout my life, as well as how others close to me have dealt with conflicting situations with me. Created by William W. Wilmot, I was able to utilize these assessments in ways I have never been able to statistically see how conflict is handled in my inner circle of friends or family. The assessments that I have taking and given are to four of the people that have been closest to me in my lifetime. Even though we are very close, being around these individuals for a while surely brought many conflicts. Now that I was able to analyze which styles of conflict I used with each person, thanks to Wilmot s assessments, I can now see the difference in each category of conflict. First I will be covering my own styles on how I handled any disagreements, arguments, or conflicts with my most recent ex girlfriend Megan, and my uncle Robert (Rob). The conflicts covered will not be one single situation but rather all of them as a whole, since there were so many conflicts throughout my life with these people. I will start off with Megan. Upon completion of how I handled our conflicting situations, I was able to see that out of the
