Julie Taymor’s Titus Andronicus Essay
Julie Taymor s Titus Andronicus
Shakespeare s first tragedy has been a topic of discussion since the day it was
written. Titus Andronicus was staged on 24 January 1594 by the Earl of Sussex s
Men at the Rose Theatre (Welsh 1). Though this tidbit of information seems
somewhat irrelevant to Titus, we must note that there are certain standards and
practices established by a play from its first performance. It is also important to
establish the general attributes that audiences attribute to Shakespearean performance.
One of the distinguishing factors in portraying Titus centers in its origin: Titus
Andronicus [...] must be considered as an experimental play (Bowers 118). Being

First of all, looking at the practical purpose of Shakespeare s work, we see that he
was trying to overcome the standard Kyd had set down with violence, found in
works such as the Spanish Tragedy: Titus Andronicus tried to surpass [Kyd] in the
portrayal of blood and horrors (Bowers 109). Not only did the violence serve as a
practical means of marketing, but the emphasis and devotion to the villainous
character of Aaron extends the role of the villain (Bowers 274). For the first time
we have monologues of the villain developing if not at least trying to explain his
motives. With this development, Shakespeare further progressed his craft and
simultaneously, gained stature for his inclinations. The non practical explanation
for Titus Andronicus violence is found within the characters and the aspect of
humanity their actions portray and mirror, if only in part, in all of us. There is a
foundational element in all of us that seeks revenge. For we need look only to [...]
the present decade [...] to see that Titus Andronicus is no period piece irrelevant to
contemporary times (Karten 1). Though the decade Karten speaks of is the 1990s.
The present decade obviously rings true with the events of September 11, and in my
opinion, more so with the overall events of the American involvement in the Middle
East. We are not too far from revenge to not appreciate the message Shakespeare
presents in Titus Andronicus. T.S. Eliot may call

National Aeronautics And Space Administration Essay
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is one of the world s
leading organizations (and one of the largest) in the fields of aviation, aerospace and
space exploration. NASA is responsible for conducting the United States civilian
aeronautic programs, for research of aerodynamics for the development of the
aviation industry and for research and investigation of the outer space. NASAis also
on the world s most innovative organizations in the aforementioned fields, as the
main aim of the organization is to protect the Earth, explore the Universe and provide
a source of inspiration for the future generations of inventors. Certainly, achieving
such ambitious goals is impossible without the suitable workforce. According to the
official statement of NASA administration, there are two sides to working in the
Agency. The first one is excellence in technical expertise and deep, exceptional
knowledge in such areas as physics, hydrodynamics, earth science, space science,
mathematics, ballistics and other. (Showstack, 2016). Furthermore, in order to
develop NASA and make it financially profitable, specialists in business, finance,
human resources and management are also required. (Showstack, 2016). Since in the
last decades the interest of young people for studying engineering and mathematics
has significantly decreased, it causes a shortage of perspective candidates for NASA.
Furthermore, since working in the aerospace industry requires not only good

Looking for apartments and being on my own for the first time brought to my
attention how expensive energy bills can be. I was determined to research a way to
save on energy and cut down my bills. While looking through the solutions I came
across an intriguing discovery. Over the years energy efficiency has become an
epidemic, whether it affects global warming or protecting the environment, saving
money or improving the economy; conserving energy has a lot more to it than many
people will ever know. Everything we do requires energy. There is heat energy, light
energy, mechanical energy, electrical energy, chemical energy, nuclear energy, and so
on. The fact that I was most intrigued by is that energy plays a big part in our national

National Security is here for our protection. Now that we know what National
security is and what it has to do with our everyday lives, I d like to explain what
national security has to do with energy. I mentioned that one of the branches of our
national security is the security of natural resources and energy. By the word
energy is meant the power of doing work; and the energy which a laboring man
possesses means, in the strictly physical sense, the number of units which he is
capable of accomplishing, (Stewart, 647). Since man require such energy to do
work, it is important that a group focus solely on energy security. Energy and
natural resources can consist of materials we use in our everyday lives; water,
sources of energy such as the wind and sun, fossil fuel, land, and power. As of 2011,
the US has been one of the world s largest energy consumers (Sovacool). Sovacool
also describes energy security as equitably providing available, affordable, reliable,
efficient, environmentally benign, properly governed and socially acceptable energy
services to customers.
We now know that energy security is one of the more important branches of national
security, but what I
The Twelve Tablet Essay
Many would affirm that the Twelve Tables embrace a noteworthy position throughout
government antiquity. After all, they constituted the initial authoritative, yet
cultivated regulation for tradition and Roman laws. The order grasped bloodline
relations, arrears for inhabitants, indictment systems, numerous communal episodes
and sacred law. Romans categorized themselves into two classes; patricians and
plebeians. patricians were essentially propertied subjects with authority, who also
possessed the liberty to vote. plebeians however, were fundamentally the working
class and held no such influence. patricians assembled the majority of leadership and
in turn gravitated towards making laws for their own prosperity. plebeians evidently

For this particular paper we examine Table three. This specific table introduces
debut and its ramification. To merely summarize the tablet in its entirety,

held responsible would therefore recompense with a sanction. Furthermore, the
offender having thirty days to pay. If the debut isn t finance within a court during
that time frame, the offender would then be passed to the victim for sixty days,
mostly for labor. Subsequently, the offender has the potential to be auctioned

offender? Could a family member or fellow companion purchase him? Surely it s
the most feasible way to avoid such establishment, and I d assume such events
materialized to minimal effect. I believe such a question being important solely
because, to me, it seems relatively easy to be deceit such decree and flee. To outline
the last bit of the tablet, which is quite chilling to say the least. A man who owes

Iraq Dishes
All around the world there are distinct cultures that have a variety of cuisines and
techniques for preparing them. This paper will discuss in depth two different dishes
that come from different regions and how its sustainability impacts its social cultural
resilience. Baghdad, Iraq and Gaza, Palestine both deal with political and
environment factors that impact their dishes, but sustainability in Gaza is less
complex because its dish ingredients are not harm by governmental regulations and
its geography provides a vast range of arable land.
First, in The Gaza Kitchen by Laila El Haddad Maggie Schmitt, they both illustrate
different Gaza dishes that range from simple to elaborate. In this case, the focus is
bread, it is not a meal but it is used to eat dishes or can be simply eaten by itself.
Khubz Kmaj is, the standard Palestinian bread eaten with almost every meal, (H S

the thirteen century and it used to be known as, Samk Maqli bi Khal wa Rashi.
The ingredients for this dish are: salmon, sesame paste, mustard, salt, garlic clove,
coriander seeds, oil, toasted walnuts, chopped parsley, cinnamon and cumin.
Preparing this dish is quite simple; you just fry the fish and make the tahini sauce.
The tahini sauce is made of a mixture of sesame seeds, vinegar, mustard salt and

The Importance Of Relation To The Common Law Duty Of
Care
Introduction:
Job references are crucial as they can be a deciding factor in whether or not a
person will get a job. Therefore, they should reflect a person accurately, and if they
do not, it is important to question if the employer is liable for writing a bad
reference. This will be discussed in relation to the common law duty of care, as well
as being linked to the liability of Universities in respect of students.
Discussion:
Firstly, it is important to establish whether the employer owes a duty of care or not.
The case of Caparo v Dickman resulted in a three stage test about duty of care and
to address responsibility in determining where the liability of the financial loss
lies. The test ruled The harm caused by the negligent actions must be reasonably
foreseeable; the relationship between the parties to the dispute must be one of
reasonable proximity; and it must be fair, reasonable, and just to impose liability.
This test provides a qualification for establishing duty of care. Linked to this, in
the Spring v Guardian Assurance case it was decided that there was a duty of care
owed to the employee. If they duty is violated, then the liability of the economic
losses suffered by the employee are given to the employer. Lord Woolf believed that
it was necessary for the employer to be liable in damages as the law of defamation
does not provide adequate remedy for damages caused as it requires malice not just
negligence.
Another way to indicate duty of care is using the
Food Diversification Tips
Having a baby is extremely difficult, because they can t speak yet, therefore you can t
understand what they want and what bothers them. What you have to do is to make
sure that you re doing your best when raising the baby, and to do this you need to be
informed on certain essential steps that every infant must go through.
If you have a baby and you re not sure how to handle the food diversification stage
of the baby s life, read the following lines to find out some useful tips that will
definitely help you.
For the first six months of the baby s life, it s recommended to only feed the small

However, you must avoid feeding the baby anything that is based on wheat, flour,
barley and pasta, to decrease the chances of him developing the celiac disease.
From the seventh month to the ninth month, you can start feeding the baby oranges,
cheese, yogurt, bread, pasta, oats, potatoes, rice, fish, cooked eggs, and cold water.
The final stage of the food diversification process begins in the tenth month, when
the baby should have 3 regular and consistent meals every day that are based on
vegetables, eggs, fish, bread, cheese, yogurt, potatoes and rice, just like you were to
cook for yourself.
When it comes to food diversification, you shouldn t stick only to the stages of the
baby s growth that we explained before, but you have to look for certain signs that
the baby is giving you as well.
If the baby is ready to take it up a notch when it comes to food diversification, he
will inevitably produce more saliva, he will develop the lateral movement of
chewing, the ability to swallow non liquid food, the baby will be able to sit up with

Homeless Dogs
Problem Statement Millions of dogs are subject to the adoption systems around
the world each year, and each year around 60% of those dogs do not leave alive
(Mahon Gibbons, Weiss, Garrison Allison, 2014). Furthermore, the overwhelming
majority of dog shelters can be shown preferring the quantity of life at the shelter
over the quality of life (Turner, Berry, Macdonald, 2012). This can lead to an influx
of homeless dogs and can cause euthanization rates to rise even higher. Luckily
though, programs like RandAgiamo in Italy can help homeless dogs by giving them
safer spaces to reside and live with lower risk of diseases and infection (Mechetti,
Mancini, Catalani, Boccini Diverio, 2015). Studies have also shown that the
introduction of a dogin a household, given the right circumstances, can reduce stress
and calm anxiety (Wright, Hall, Hames, Hardiman, Mills, 2015). The research
question I am proposing would be; how does the age and breed of a certain dog

Dagama, Cary Grant, And The Election Of 1934
In Charles Reis Felix s novel DaGama, Cary Grant, and the Election of 1934, Felix
describes various characters in the fictional town of Gaw. The characters introduced
in this novel are varied in a myriad of ways, ranging from their ethnicity to their
personality. The focus of the novel is on a young boy named Seraphin, who comes
from an immigrant Portuguese family, and his interactions with the people of Gaw.
The story is set against the backdrop of the election of 1934, which, when viewed
through the eyes of Seraphin, provides an interesting perspective on how the
Portuguese in Gaw act and what kind of image they project in relation to the
arguments of modern day sociologists and anthropologists. The first argument, made

Moniz defines the Shadow Minority as they have been subjected to the same kinds
of social exclusion faced by legally codified minority groups, yet they lack the
concomitant legal framework and political vocabulary that minority classification
confers (Moniz 428). While this may hold true for the Portuguese of today, this
cannot be applied to the Portuguese of Gaw. The Portuguese of Gaw in Felix s novel
lived in the 1930 s, at a time when the civil rights movement had yet to occur, and
racism ran rampant and unchecked. Therefore, while the Portuguese did not have any
type of minority rights, neither did any other minority group at that point in time. In
actuality, the community of Gaw is described as fairly multi ethnic, and from
Seraphin s description of various people in Gaw, it does not seem as if any ethnicity
has a leg up on another, particularly since Gaw is a community of immigrants. The
best evidence for this is during the election, when several different groups have
someone representing their ethnicity during the mayoral election. Even though none
of the candidates are able to unseat the incumbent, they put up a fight, and even work
together, with the Portuguese Secundo B. Alves backing the French Armand
Langevin during the final election. At

Since the ancient eras, it had been observed that the phenomenon of communication

The sources of communication had changed gradually in the form of books,

communication has their own effect, but among them the audio visual, television and

C-Fern In Population Genetics
Experimental Analysis of C Fern in Population Genetics
Abstract
C Fern plants are a strain of Ceratopteris richardii and have a rapid reproductive
cycle, making them perfect subjects in lab to be tested and observed on population
genetics. Population genetics is the study of genetic variation and allelic frequencies
on a specific group over an amount of time. It is a great way to predict future genetic
information on more than just the C Ferns. In this experiment, two different
generations for gametophytes and sporophytes of C Ferns were observed and
counted for the amount of wild type and polka dot mutant individuals within a
sample and a population. The overall results demonstrated a 1:1 ratio of mutant to
wild type in the F1 gametophyte generation for both the sample and population,
which was expected. The F1 sporophyte generation demonstrated a 1:1 ratio of
mutant to wild type in the sample and a 2:1 ratio of mutant to wild type in the
population. A 3:1 ratio of mutant to wild type was expected in the sporophytes. It was
concluded that the polka dot mutant is recessive in sporophytes and demonstrates
random fertilization in the diploid stage, but not in gametophytes. This process of
population genetics in C Ferns can be extremely beneficial in other organisms, such as
humans. Population genetics could be a tool in medicine in determining human ...

A population cannot truly survive for a long period of time without some sort of
genetic variation. It was first seen with Gregor Mendel and his research within pea

observed. They go through a reproductive cycle after meiosis in a 2 week time span,
so these variations are easily noticed and perfect for a lab research setting. They are
very easily grown and observed (Project) in a way that is not possible for other
organisms.
My Favorite Christmas Essay
My All Time Favorite
I enjoy every holiday on the calendar since it means a day off from school. However,
the one that stands out the most is Christmas. Christmas is my all time favorite
holiday because of the joy of opening all the beautifully wrapped presents under the
Christmas tree, listening to the wonderful, joyous Christmas music, enjoying the
exclusive traditional Christmas feast, and the most important of all, the gathering
with my father s side of the family,
To begin with, I love to get together with my family and relatives and catching up
with the latest gossips. For example, seeing my cousins with their boyfriends and
girlfriends together is priceless. Our family is rather small, including all the aunts,
uncles and cousins, there are only thirteen in all. However, due to our hectic busy
schedules, I rarely get to visit them. Christmas is one of the few times in a year
that I see my aunts, uncles, and cousins all at once. What I mean by this is that it is
the only time that I was able to talk with my relatives in length, especially my
favorite cousin from New Orleans and my aunt who never took a day off work
except for Christmas. She works all the time, literally.
My father s side of family is serious about the Christmas gathering. What I mean by
this is that the dinner table is always full of food with a minimum of three to four
entrГ©es, including prime ribs, barbecue spare ribs, ketchup shrimp and ham.
Then there are roasted vegetables, salad, and mixed greens. If that is no enough,
plenty of rice, potatoes, yams and rolls are available to fill our still empty stomachs.
The food is always prepared in a combination of American and Chinese style to
reflect our culture and tradition. After the dinner, there are enough delicious dessert
to feed the entire neighborhood. In addition, knowing that all the food was
homemade, and everyone had contributed in preparing, really made this dinner that
much more special. Oh, I almost forget to mention that we started with appetizers of
shrimp cocktails, assorted cheeses and pigs in the blankets for two straight hours
before the dinner starts. Last but not lease, my cousin from New Orleans always
have one or two exotic cocktail recipes up her sleeve to highlight
The Quite American By Graham Greene
In The Quite American, Graham Greene unravels a tale of three lovers at the time of
major political chaos. Political chaos refers to the pre Vietnam War tension in
Vietnam, during which the United States of America (USA/US) was partially and
two European nations (France and Britain) were wholly exerting themselves into the
political conflict between North Vietnam(Communist region) and South Vietnam(non
Communist region). People s Republic of China (PRC) also exerted itself into the
conflict through North Vietnam(Mamaux, et al. 127). PRC is mentioned throughout
Greene s text as China but the PRC/North Vietnamese/South Vietnamese relationship
is not discussed the way that the South Vietnamese/US/European (non communist)
political relationship is discussed. It is crucial to note that the author discusses the
non communist relationship by developing the three lovers (main characters) as a
physical representation of the region that they identify with. For instance, Thomas
Fowler represents Europe because he identifies as a British. Phoung and Alden Pyle
represent South Vietnam and US, respectively. While the dynamic of South
Vietnamese/US/European political relationship is seen through the three lovers, the
readers are only about to know about the PRC/North Vietnamese/South Vietnamese
relationship through the lens and to the extent of the relationship that they share with
Europe and US. This implies that a part of Vietnam s story is excluded. The Quite

Sports And Consumerism In Sports
Decades have passed and with time comes change, it should not come as a shock that
as a society we ve grown and developed. The way we consume sports, its
mechanisms, and the culture behind it, has changed outstandingly. The effects that
media has had on the sporting industry and consumerism in the past two decades
have been tremendous. The development of high definition tv s, live streamed
sporting events, video games, and even social media, has globalized sportand
transformed the way fans and athletes interact. This transformation from conventional
sports consumerism to modern day has come as a great shock to many. Stephen Brunt
s article Sports Consumption Will Undergo Revolution in the Decade Ahead focuses
on how the landscape of the sporting industry will be profoundly transformed, not
only in the games and the athletes themselves but in the way we consume them as
entertainment. Brunt s argument on how the new modern tools that have been
developed (in association with sports) have changed his view of the all American
dream of sports consumerism, is outdated. We do not agree with Brunt s arguments
towards the future of sports consumption, and the supposedly negative effects that
will come in regards to future generations.
On the contrary, David J. Leonard New Media and Global Sporting Cultures: Moving
Beyond the ClichГ©s and Binaries contradict Brunt s argument by stating To the

It is now an established fact that there is an intense linkage between migration and
informal sector, specially that in the urban sector. Number of literature suggests that
there exist a two way causation between these two factors. While migration helps in
booming of urban informal sector, similarly this development of informal sector
attracts further migration. Number of studies has been made in this regard. There are
various issues through which one can interlink rural to urban migration and informal
sector. Regarding the interlinkage between rural to urban migration and urban

The study suggests that majority of the people who are migrating into the urban
sector are illiterate and of unskilled type. As a result they become unable to get a
formal job in the urban formal job market. A major portion of this unskilled migrated
labour force joins to the urban informal job market. Finally this low quality of
migration has resulted into low quality urbanization in urban India which ultimately
led to an urban decay. Studying the interrelationship between rural to urban migration
and urban informal sector Meng (2001) find that the issue is controversial .
According to the author, most classical migration models treat the informal sector as
a temporary employment opportunity for migrants (Todaro, 1969; Fields, 1975),
though some empirical studies challenged this assumption and suggested that the
informal sector may play an important role in economic development (ILO, 1972;
Bhattacharya, 1993; Banerjee, 1983). The study found that two groups, namely wage
earner and self employed, in the informal sector have played different roles in
attracting migrants when compared to the formal sector. While the wage earner
group provides temporary employment opportunities to migrants, the self employed
group appears to be a desirable employment choice for the in migrants. One of the
interesting finding of the study is that migrants having higher human capital choose
to be self employed

technically these decrees did not have to be obeyed, in practice, they usually were.

Sacagawea Really A Great Help To Lewis And Clark

Was Sacagawea really a great help to Lewis and Clark on the expedition? Lewis and
Clark are explorers they were able to make maps of the land they explore.
Sacagawea is a indian and she helped Lewis and Clark to navigate themand on the
expedition. Sacagawea did not get anything out of helping Lewis and Clark on the
expedition. I agree that Sacagaweaplayed an important part in the expedition. First,
Lewis and Clark were chosen to go on a journey to make a map for Jefferson the
president. He wanted the expedition to prepare the way for the extensions of the
American fur trade and to advance geographical knowledge.
It refers to my claim because they would need more help for the rough journey

Symptoms And Treatment Of Idiopathic Scoliosis
Abstract
Scoliosis is a condition were the spine, which is normal straight, is curved to the
left, right or in some cases both left and right. Idiopathic scoliosis has no known
cause, 80% of all cases of scoliosis are idiopathic (Gennari et al. 2015). This
curvature can cause problems with the heart, lungs, and cause back pain due to the
stress on the spine. Ten to twenty percent of people experience back pain during
growth in adolescence (Gennari et al. 2015). Those who suffer from idiopathic
scoliosis are twice as likely to experience back pain when compared to patients
without scoliosis (ThГ©roux et al. 2015). Idiopathic scoliosis affects between 2%
and 3% of the world population (ThГ©roux et al. 2015).
Once diagnosed with Idiopathic scoliosis it begins a race against the clock, trying
to correct the curve, stopping progression of the curve and finding the best pain
management options. This is especially the case in adolescents but is also a problem
in adults because idiopathic scoliosis can continue to progress after skeletal maturity
is achieved (Negrini et al. 2015). In fact, over 60% of idiopathic scoliosis patients
experience progression of their spinal curve (Negrini et al. 2015). With a wide variety
of treatment options it can be overwhelming and difficult to decide which treatment
is best for each patient to help pain management. Non surgery treatment options for
pain management include, physical therapy, chiropractic treatment and bracing.
Introduction
Postmodernism In Post Modernism
Post Modernism is a revolutionary era that follows Modernism and developed in mid
to late twentieth century. It takes a changed and developed approach across
philosophy, art, criticism, and architecture and makes a departure from Modernism.
The term Postmodernism is applied to an era that both follows modernity, and also
acts as a host of movements that emerged during the era especially in art, music, and
literature, marked by the tendencies against modernism. It is more like the rejection
of conventional social norms , followed by the Counter culture movement. Counter
culture movement spreads massively in Europe and North America during mid 20th
century, which is a subculture whose norms of behavior and values substantially
differ from those of dominant mainstream society and culture. Its 1960 s to 1970 s
development generated a unique brand of its own in the field of notable literature,
including comics and cartoons.
Postmodernism is often associated with schools of thought such as ... Show more

It was his third published novel, after The Collector (1963) and The Magus (1965).
The novel presents a Victorian tale and setting with the elements of Postmodernism
and the characters that are ahead of their time. Thus, it resembles a Victorian novel in
structure and detail, while pushing the traditional boundaries of narrative in a very
modern manner. It explores the fraught relationship of gentleman and amateur
naturalist Charles Smithson and Sarah Woodruff, the former governess and
independent woman with whom he falls in love. Fowles has represented Sarah
Woodruff and Charles in a very contrasting manner, one being so independent and
other like more stereotypical male characters, that also receives attention for its
treatment of gender issues. The novel builds on Fowles authority in Victorian
literature, both following and critiquing many of the conventions of period

Citizen Kane Analysis
Sad Man
Citizen Kane is a movie that can be rewritten and implemented into any film created
today. In many ways, the storyline tells us more about ourselves than anything else
and it relates to each one of us who has ever wished for a better life. From his
flamboyant adventures to the blah blah to his political agenda in his later years.
Every film that came after Citizen Kane owes a great deal to Orson Welles because of
the way he used special effects, music, and shadows and lighting, which without a
doubt makes it one of the finest movies ever made. Some even call it the Mona Lisa
of its time because Orson Welles was the first to implement all of these techniques,
which revolutionize cinema forever.
It is believed that more than 50 percent of the film involved special effects. One of
the many reasons is because the film itself was made on a budget and the other being
for the nature and scope of its subject (The Denny Life) to keep costs down. One of
the methods that revolutionize cinematography was the introduction of a technique
known as deep focus by Orson Welles. Deep focus is the use of having everything in
the frame even the background in focus at the same time contrary to having only the
people or object in the foreground in focus (The Denny Life). Moreover, the deep
focus technique requires the cinematographer to combine lighting, composition, and
type of camera lens to produce the desired effect. For example, Orson Welles use this
technique on

The Physics behind Daredevil Motorcycle Jumpers Essay
The Physics behind Daredevil Motorcycle Jumpers For a span of about 20 years
only a few people were brave enough to be motorcycle stuntmen. Performing death
defying jumps were and still are looked upon as a crazy action. It takes much
practice, natural skill, and planning for a stuntman to perform a successful jump.
Of course practice is dictated by ones determination, skill is acquired with the
combination of practice and good genes. And the planning has to do with physics.
Sure one could just grip it and rip it go balls out and just jump, but the safe way to
do it deals with careful planning, which directly relates to physics topics. So the
question is, how do motorcycle jumpers such as Evil Knievel plan out their jumps and
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are the two most crucial equations because now the jumper knows the angle
of the ramp, the distance he needs to launch over, and the speed he needs to reach
in order to clear the gap. He also knows how high he can expect himself launch,
that way there are no surprises. The calculations are very important to the success
of a motorcycle jump, but physics also play a role in the development of
improvements. With better technology comes new improvements; better
motorcycles, ramps, and protective gear. Motorcycles will be built with more
power, acceleration, and speed. They will be lighter and easier to handle. Bike
shocks will be built stronger to resist the impact of the landing and safer protective
aprons will be designed to prevent death or serious injury (crash padding).
Daredevils will be able to launch further and higher than ever before because the
technology of their day will allow them to do so. Although these improvements
will help advance the sport of motorcycle jumping, there are still many factors
involved. Safety is the most important thing, so riders still need to check all
aspects of the jump. An important factor is the ramp itself; is the angle of
trajectory right? If it is too high the rider will go to high and fall short of the
landing. If the angle is too low, the rider will fall short of the landing. The ramp
must have traction for the wheels of the bike to grab hold of and it must be

A Clean Well Lighted Place
Theme and Setting
A clean well lighted place by Ernest Hemingway has a few themes that stand out
clearly but the one theme that stands out to me is despair. According to Merriam
Webster dictionary, despair means to lose all hope or confidence. In the story, the
older waiter and the old deaf man somehow share a common bond of despair. Both
men are of age and like to be out, late at night, alone. Asides from the story alone, the
theme of the story can be brought out by the setting. The setting contributes to the
story s theme in different ways. The setting contributes to the mood of the story, to
the structure of the story, and to the lesson of the story. The cafГ© represents
salvation for despair which is shown through the setting of the ... Show more content

If the old man were to drink in that bar then the story s mood could have been
perceived in a different way. Furthermore, the setting contributes to the structure of
the story, like cartilages in a human body. The cafГ© can be viewed as a workplace
and also as a place of peaceful socialization. Each person deals with despair
differently. Having the setting at a cafГ© where it was mentioned that it was
quiet help structure the story that it is neither a depressing story nor, a happy
story. The two waiters who were gossiping about the old man mentioned that he
had committed suicide but, he was saved. Being in a cafГ© is different than rather
being in a bar or anywhere else. The cafГ© signifies a place for space or time,
depending on the person. The old man is not trying to cure his despair but rather
subdue it. The setting could have taken place anywhere but it also could have
affected the structure of the story differently. For example, when the older waiter
was out trying to kill time due to insomnia, he went to a bar but, it was not soothing;
therefore, he went home. This proves how the setting was able to support its main
structure of having a cafГ© rather than a different place. Finally, the lesson of the
story is that do not be impatient. The setting contributed to how the lesson of the
story was delivered. The old deaf man was not harming anyone and the cafГ© was

Building Integrated Photovoltaic ( Bipv ) Systems
Building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems are one of the most promising solar
based technologies with the potential to minimise the high energy demands of office
buildings in the Adelaide CBD. Recently, the Australian government has put in
significant effort to increase the sustainability of existing buildings. The Commercial
Building Disclosure (CBD) program, released as part of the Building Energy
Efficiency Disclosure Act 2010, requires the owners of Australia s largest office
buildings to reveal information regarding their energy consumption and efficiency to
the public (Department of Industry and Science 2015). By replacing conventional
building materials on the exterior of a building with solar photovoltaic (PV) modules,
BIPV allows on site electricity generation to reduce the building s total energy
consumption and emissions. A multifunctional technology, the modules can also
serve dual functions as roofs, windows, walls, thermal insulation and daylight
modulators, increasing energy efficiency and reducing operational costs. It is
therefore recommended that the South Australian government develop policies and
strategies to encourage the incorporation of BIVP into all future buildings and
restoration projects. The development of BIVP standards and procedures will also be
necessary to overcome the technical and financial constraints of BIVP and promote
more industry professionals to partake in this new and innovative technology. In
Australia, commercial buildings
`` Repent, Harlequin, By Harlan Ellison
Harlan Ellison uses strong imagery in his short story Repent, Harlequin! said the
Ticktockman to better develop the characters and setting. The personalities of both
the Harlequin and the Ticktockman are developed through Ellison s imagery of their
physical forms and of their personas. The dull setting of the short storyis created
through the author s imagery of machinery, particularly clockwork, and Mondrian
arrangements. Ellison s use of imagery allows the reader to pull from this story
deeper, more significant meaning than what appears on the surface. According to
White, the disruptive and rebellious Harlequinis an anomaly: the only human being
distinguishable from machines (White, 1). In order to clearly establish the
Harlequin as the only individual within his society, Ellison employs the use of
strong imagery to cause him to stand out among the rest of the characters. One way
that Ellison does this is using rather outlandish language to describe the Harlequin.
Aside from being a personality, which in and of itself is outrageous to the System,
the Harlequin is also a laughing, irresponsible japer of jabberwocky and jive (953,
955). This imagery of a jesteror a jokester creates the idea that the Harlequin is
merely a nuisance to his society rather than a dangerous rebellious force. When the
Harlequin is flying the air boat that he uses to drop jelly beans on to the metronomic
Timkin workers, he is not described as merely flying this boat over the people

Summary Of Balanced Psychology And A Full Life
According the article A Balanced Psychology and a Full Life by Seligman there are
three routes to happiness which are pleasure (or positive emotion), engagement and
meaning. In this article Seligman states Within limits, we can increase our positive
emotion about the past (e.g. by cultivating gratitude and forgiveness), our positive
emotion about the present (e.g. by savoring and mindfulness) and our positive
emotion about the future (e.g. by building hope and optimism). (Seligman 418) This
helps further explain that if we forgive for the things that we did in the past that made
us unhappy and try to help move past it, if you want to increase your positive emotion
about the present just be mindful, then lastly the increase your positive

committed in the United States (Kail Cavanaugh). Teens have been accountable
for about 15% of all arrests and violent crimes (Kail Cavanaugh). I believe that in
the eyes of economically secure teens poorer classmates to them would be in a
lower social group . Some secure teens have a belief system that you have to follow

High School Censorship Persuasive Speech
Many college students today might say, Stick and stones may break my bones, but
words really offend me, so you can t say that. These students would be wrong
legally to prevent others from freely speaking their minds in public, but in a college
classroom they would be awarded.
Censoring is not only in college classrooms, but in high school classrooms as well.
It impedes on a student s ability to develop and learn, hinders their ability to prepare
for the modern day world. Although clichГ©, and very sadly so, it is very apparent
that today there is almost nothing that can be said that offends nobody. Thick skins
have been replaced with fragile minds, and college students do not even know the
extent of the first amendment. However, these same students believe they have the
right to interpret the amendment their own way, and some believe they have the right
to become the judiciary system if the speech doesn t appeal to them.
When determining an opinion on any argument, it is important to start with the facts.
In a survey taken by John Villasenor, forty percent of college students surveyed
believe that hate speech is not protected by the first amendment, and twenty percent
believe violence used to stop hate speech is acceptable. All those students are wrong.
Hate speech is protected by the first amendment, and using violence as justification
for ending hate speech is not legal.
While not everyone in society has to be a constitutional expert, college students today
are tomorrow s future lawyers, judges, police officers, etc. They need to at least know
the extent of the first amendment in the United States. Additionally, these students
should know that since hate speech is protected, responding with violence is by no
means the answer as they will be the only ones to find themselves in jail. These
students must lower their fists, and pull out the textbooks and construct the picket
signs, using vigorous debate and peaceful protests as their response to bigotry.
The other problem is that judges don t sit outside or around college campuses and
determine when someone s right to free speech is infringed. Therefore, when a
significant portion of the students believe they have the right to silence or prevent the
The Importance Of Suicide Prevention
The definition of suicide is the act of intentionally causing one s own death. Suicides
happen every day and the emotional impact such an act has on individuals, families,
and communities is devastating and tragic. Unfortunately, suicide has become a
much bigger social issue than society likes to admit. Many people seem to think of
teenage years as their happiest years in life but what others do not know is that
someone can be suffering from pain caused by an emotional or environmental issue.

Teenagers experience strong feelings of stress, confusion, self doubt, and pressure
to succeed while growing up. These are fears that teens face every day and suicide
may seem like the solution to their problems. There are many signs for parents to
watch for in teenagers: changes in eating and sleeping habits, drug or alcohol abuse,
violent actions, rebellious behavior, frequent complaints, and withdrawal from family
and friends. Many of these signs and symptoms can be similar to depression. It is
important for parents, teachers, and physicians to be aware of these symptoms in
adolescents. (American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, October 2013).
According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention website, there are also
additional suicide rates shown by race and methods. In 2015, the highest U.S. suicide
rate was among Whites and the second highest rate was among American Indians and
Alaska Natives. Also in 2015, firearms were the most common method used to
commit suicide. Suffocation and poisoning were the other common methods used
(AFSP Suicide Statistics). Virginia closely resembles national statistics, on average
one person dies by suicide every eight hours. Also, suicide is the eleventh leading
cause of death in the state (AFSP State Fact Sheets). The suicide rates in Virginia
have been slowly increasing since 1999. Teen suicides resemble adult suicides as

Public schools have also been around for a very long time, just as private schools
have. The Puritans were the first to point out the need for public education of some
sort in America. They established schools to reinforce their core values, and not just

public schools began to emphasize more on subjects besides the essentials and made
it an even harder choice for parents to decide between one or the other. A public

found at the crime scene, the IR spectroscopy can be used to determine the
composition of the metal. By analyzing the metal composition, the investigators can
be informed about what weapon took the shot and even which company manufactured

Substances such as inorganic salts and minerals, semiconductors, and organic and
biological compounds can form crystals under suitable and specific conditions. The
method is beneficial in determining the structure of molecules, allowing researchers
to characterize and understand their behavior and function. This method of structure
determination has provided the most reliable evidence scientists have about the way
molecules are shaped and what their bonds angles and lengths are. This also can be
useful in education, since we can have more of an understanding as chemistry student

What Are The Similarities Between The Giver And
Fahrenheit...
Albert Einstein once said, The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but
imagination. What he is trying to point out to everyone is that if someone is really
good at math, it doesn t mean that he/she has a good mindset, thinking wise.
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and The Giver by Lois Lowry are both books that
have a similar idea of how a society is supposed to be run, but with different plots.
In both books, the government took away the citizen s power to think for
themselves. Similarly, they both have main characters that release later on how
messed up and nonperfect their community is. However, both societies have some
major differences like how in Fahrenheit 451, they actually have feelings, but in The
Giver they don t. Clearly, Fahrenheit 451 and The Giver share many similarities and
differences. The books, Fahrenheit 451 and The Giver, have a good amount of
similarities. For Example, their communities are run by systems that are supposed to
take away differences, so that there is only sameness, whether it is to think the same
or feel the same. Also, when dealing with death, both of those societies don t know it
s bad and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole city burnt down because of bombs and it was just a mess. That was a
really good plot twist to the book, since the community is supposed to be perfect,
but in the end it shows it wasn t really perfect and their community was just falling
apart piece by piece. Fahrenheit 451 took away any books that had physiological
ideas so that everyone could think the same and if there were people who snuck
books into their homes, they eliminated the books and sometimes had to sacrifice a
life if the owner of the books wouldn t give up. Between the both books, The Giver
was much more more strict about not allowing people choose for themselves
because Fahrenheit 451 actually allowed the people to go about their days just as
long as they didn t read
Comparing Sadie And Maud
Gwendolyn Brooks is one of the most highly regarded, highly influential, and
widely read poets of 20th century American poetry. She was a much honored poet,
even in her lifetime, with the distinction of being the first black author to win the
Pulitzer Prize. She also was poetry consultant to the Library of Congress the first
black woman to hold that position and poet laureate of the State of Illinois. Many
of Brooks s works display a political consciousness, especially those from the 1960s
and later, with several of her poems reflecting the civil rights activism of that period.
Her body of work gave her, according to critic George E. Kent, a unique position in
American letters. In Sadie and Maud, two sisters set out on different directions...

Not to everybody because we are all different especially as women but it all comes
down to what you want in life not what someone pictures for you. I think this poem
fits perfectly with the quote your damned if you do, your damned if you don t
from a women s perspective on life. Maud went to college, had no children and she
was still criticized, but she lived her life the way she wanted to. Sadie lived her life
by her own rules and birth beautiful children without a husband. After all that she
went through she still was not good enough for her parents and sister acceptance.
Instead they were ashamed of her but that did not stop her from living, she took her
experiences and turned them into
Blue Winds Dancing
Living Between Two Worlds In the essay, Blue Winds Dancing, by Tom
Whitecloud, the theme is motivated by the conflict the narrator faces while missing
what he considers home. Satisfaction for ones culture is a fine line between
appreciation of your own and disapproval for those that are different. This conflict is
brought to light by the narrator s different views of the two cultures to which he
lives. These differences are felt internally and externally as the writer searches for his
individuality and deals with society, respectively. In the beginning of the essay, the
narrator explains his views about life. The narrator goes onto compare the different
aspects of the cultures, and in a sense thinks like the White man, that his... Show more

like everyone else, to be a part of white society. Then, he realizes that such society is
not what he imagines it to be. As a result, he wants to reconnect with his family, this
time appreciating them as his own. Nevertheless, the narrator is afraid of what his

  • 2. Julie Taymor’s Titus Andronicus Essay Julie Taymor s Titus Andronicus Shakespeare s first tragedy has been a topic of discussion since the day it was written. Titus Andronicus was staged on 24 January 1594 by the Earl of Sussex s Men at the Rose Theatre (Welsh 1). Though this tidbit of information seems somewhat irrelevant to Titus, we must note that there are certain standards and practices established by a play from its first performance. Being Shakespeare s first attempt at tragedy, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the first time we have monologues of the villain developing if not at least trying to explain his motives. With this development, Shakespeare further progressed his craft and simultaneously, gained stature for his inclinations. The non practical explanation for Titus Andronicus violence is found within the characters and the aspect of humanity their actions portray and mirror, if only in part, in all of us. There is a foundational element in all of us that seeks revenge. For we need look only to [...] the present decade [...] to see that Titus Andronicus is no period piece irrelevant to contemporary times (Karten 1). Though the decade Karten speaks of is the 1990s. The present decade obviously rings true with the events of September 11, and in my opinion, more so with the overall events of the American involvement in the Middle East. We are not too far from revenge to not appreciate the message Shakespeare presents in Titus Andronicus. T.S. Eliot may call

NASA is responsible for conducting the United States civilian aeronautic programs, for research of aerodynamics for the development of the aviation industry and for research and investigation of the outer space. NASAis also on the world s most innovative organizations in the aforementioned fields, as the main aim of the organization is to protect the Earth, explore the Universe and provide a source of inspiration for the future generations of inventors. Over the years energy efficiency has become an epidemic, whether it affects global warming or protecting the environment, saving money or improving the economy; conserving energy has a lot more to it than many people will ever know. A crisis could occur at any moment in our lives and National Security is here for our protection. Now that we know what National security is and what it has to do with our everyday lives, I d like to explain what national security has to do with energy. I mentioned that one of the branches of our national security is the security of natural resources and energy. By the word energy is meant the power of doing work; and the energy which a laboring man possesses means, in the strictly physical sense, the number of units which he is capable of accomplishing, (Stewart, 647). Since man require such energy to do work, it is important that a group focus solely on energy security. Energy and natural resources can consist of materials we use in our everyday lives; water, sources of energy such as the wind and sun, fossil fuel, land, and power. As of 2011, the US has been one of the world s largest energy consumers (Sovacool). Sovacool also describes energy security as equitably providing available, affordable, reliable, efficient, environmentally benign, properly governed and socially acceptable energy services to customers. We now know that energy security is one of the more important branches of national security, but what I

After all, they constituted the initial authoritative, yet cultivated regulation for tradition and Roman laws. The order grasped bloodline relations, arrears for inhabitants, indictment systems, numerous communal episodes and sacred law. Romans categorized themselves into two classes; patricians and plebeians. patricians were essentially propertied subjects with authority, who also possessed the liberty to vote. plebeians however, were fundamentally the working class and held no such influence. patricians assembled the majority of leadership and in turn gravitated towards making laws for their own prosperity. plebeians evidently threatened... • 8. The Importance Of Relation To The Common Law Duty Of Care Introduction: Job references are crucial as they can be a deciding factor in whether or not a person will get a job. Therefore, they should reflect a person accurately, and if they do not, it is important to question if the employer is liable for writing a bad reference. This will be discussed in relation to the common law duty of care, as well as being linked to the liability of Universities in respect of students. Discussion: Firstly, it is important to establish whether the employer owes a duty of care or not. The case of Caparo v Dickman resulted in a three stage test about duty of care and to address responsibility in determining where the liability of the financial loss lies. The test ruled The harm caused by the negligent actions must be reasonably foreseeable; the relationship between the parties to the dispute must be one of reasonable proximity; and it must be fair, reasonable, and just to impose liability. This test provides a qualification for establishing duty of care. Linked to this, in the Spring v Guardian Assurance case it was decided that there was a duty of care owed to the employee. If they duty is violated, then the liability of the economic losses suffered by the employee are given to the employer. Lord Woolf believed that it was necessary for the employer to be liable in damages as the law of defamation does not provide adequate remedy for damages caused as it requires malice not just negligence. Another way to indicate duty of care is using the

Homeless Dogs Problem Statement Millions of dogs are subject to the adoption systems around the world each year, and each year around 60% of those dogs do not leave alive (Mahon Gibbons, Weiss, Garrison Allison, 2014). Moniz defines the Shadow Minority as they have been subjected to the same kinds of social exclusion faced by legally codified minority groups, yet they lack the concomitant legal framework and political vocabulary that minority classification confers (Moniz 428). While this may hold true for the Portuguese of today, this cannot be applied to the Portuguese of Gaw. The Portuguese of Gaw in Felix s novel lived in the 1930 s, at a time when the civil rights movement had yet to occur, and racism ran rampant and unchecked. Therefore, while the Portuguese did not have any type of minority rights, neither did any other minority group at that point in time. In actuality, the community of Gaw is described as fairly multi ethnic, and from Seraphin s description of various people in Gaw, it does not seem as if any ethnicity has a leg up on another, particularly since Gaw is a community of immigrants. The best evidence for this is during the election, when several different groups have someone representing their ethnicity during the mayoral election. C-Fern In Population Genetics Experimental Analysis of C Fern in Population Genetics Abstract C Fern plants are a strain of Ceratopteris richardii and have a rapid reproductive cycle, making them perfect subjects in lab to be tested and observed on population genetics. Population genetics is the study of genetic variation and allelic frequencies on a specific group over an amount of time. It is a great way to predict future genetic information on more than just the C Ferns. In this experiment, two different generations for gametophytes and sporophytes of C Ferns were observed and counted for the amount of wild type and polka dot mutant individuals within a sample and a population. The overall results demonstrated a 1:1 ratio of mutant to wild type in the F1 gametophyte generation for both the sample and population, which was expected. The F1 sporophyte generation demonstrated a 1:1 ratio of mutant to wild type in the sample and a 2:1 ratio of mutant to wild type in the population. A 3:1 ratio of mutant to wild type was expected in the sporophytes. It was concluded that the polka dot mutant is recessive in sporophytes and demonstrates random fertilization in the diploid stage, but not in gametophytes. Christmas is my all time favorite holiday because of the joy of opening all the beautifully wrapped presents under the Christmas tree, listening to the wonderful, joyous Christmas music, enjoying the exclusive traditional Christmas feast, and the most important of all, the gathering with my father s side of the family, To begin with, I love to get together with my family and relatives and catching up with the latest gossips. For example, seeing my cousins with their boyfriends and girlfriends together is priceless. Our family is rather small, including all the aunts, uncles and cousins, there are only thirteen in all. However, due to our hectic busy schedules, I rarely get to visit them. Christmas is one of the few times in a year that I see my aunts, uncles, and cousins all at once. What I mean by this is that it is the only time that I was able to talk with my relatives in length, especially my favorite cousin from New Orleans and my aunt who never took a day off work except for Christmas. She works all the time, literally. My father s side of family is serious about the Christmas gathering. What I mean by this is that the dinner table is always full of food with a minimum of three to four entrГ©es, including prime ribs, barbecue spare ribs, ketchup shrimp and ham. Then there are roasted vegetables, salad, and mixed greens. If that is no enough, plenty of rice, potatoes, yams and rolls are available to fill our still empty stomachs. The food is always prepared in a combination of American and Chinese style to reflect our culture and tradition. After the dinner, there are enough delicious dessert to feed the entire neighborhood. In addition, knowing that all the food was homemade, and everyone had contributed in preparing, really made this dinner that much more special. Oh, I almost forget to mention that we started with appetizers of shrimp cocktails, assorted cheeses and pigs in the blankets for two straight hours before the dinner starts. Last but not lease, my cousin from New Orleans always have one or two exotic cocktail recipes up her sleeve to highlight

Political chaos refers to the pre Vietnam War tension in Vietnam, during which the United States of America (USA/US) was partially and two European nations (France and Britain) were wholly exerting themselves into the political conflict between North Vietnam(Communist region) and South Vietnam(non Communist region). People s Republic of China (PRC) also exerted itself into the conflict through North Vietnam(Mamaux, et al. 127). PRC is mentioned throughout Greene s text as China but the PRC/North Vietnamese/South Vietnamese relationship is not discussed the way that the South Vietnamese/US/European (non communist) political relationship is discussed. It is crucial to note that the author discusses the non communist relationship by developing the three lovers (main characters) as a physical representation of the region that they identify with. For instance, Thomas Fowler represents Europe because he identifies as a British. Phoung and Alden Pyle represent South Vietnam and US, respectively. While the dynamic of South Vietnamese/US/European political relationship is seen through the three lovers, the readers are only about to know about the PRC/North Vietnamese/South Vietnamese relationship through the lens and to the extent of the relationship that they share with Europe and US. This implies that a part of Vietnam s story is excluded. The Quite American is,

According to the author, most classical migration models treat the informal sector as a temporary employment opportunity for migrants (Todaro, 1969; Fields, 1975), though some empirical studies challenged this assumption and suggested that the informal sector may play an important role in economic development (ILO, 1972; Bhattacharya, 1993; Banerjee, 1983). The study found that two groups, namely wage earner and self employed, in the informal sector have played different roles in attracting migrants when compared to the formal sector. While the wage earner group provides temporary employment opportunities to migrants, the self employed group appears to be a desirable employment choice for the in migrants. It takes a changed and developed approach across philosophy, art, criticism, and architecture and makes a departure from Modernism. The term Postmodernism is applied to an era that both follows modernity, and also acts as a host of movements that emerged during the era especially in art, music, and literature, marked by the tendencies against modernism. It is more like the rejection of conventional social norms , followed by the Counter culture movement. Counter culture movement spreads massively in Europe and North America during mid 20th century, which is a subculture whose norms of behavior and values substantially differ from those of dominant mainstream society and culture. Its 1960 s to 1970 s development generated a unique brand of its own in the field of notable literature, including comics and cartoons. The novel presents a Victorian tale and setting with the elements of Postmodernism and the characters that are ahead of their time. Thus, it resembles a Victorian novel in structure and detail, while pushing the traditional boundaries of narrative in a very modern manner. It explores the fraught relationship of gentleman and amateur naturalist Charles Smithson and Sarah Woodruff, the former governess and independent woman with whom he falls in love. Fowles has represented Sarah Woodruff and Charles in a very contrasting manner, one being so independent and other like more stereotypical male characters, that also receives attention for its treatment of gender issues. The novel builds on Fowles authority in Victorian literature, both following and critiquing many of the conventions of period

  • 25. Citizen Kane Analysis Sad Man Citizen Kane is a movie that can be rewritten and implemented into any film created today. In many ways, the storyline tells us more about ourselves than anything else and it relates to each one of us who has ever wished for a better life. From his flamboyant adventures to the blah blah to his political agenda in his later years. Every film that came after Citizen Kane owes a great deal to Orson Welles because of the way he used special effects, music, and shadows and lighting, which without a doubt makes it one of the finest movies ever made. Some even call it the Mona Lisa of its time because Orson Welles was the first to implement all of these techniques, which revolutionize cinema forever. It is believed that more than 50 percent of the film involved special effects. One of the many reasons is because the film itself was made on a budget and the other being for the nature and scope of its subject (The Denny Life) to keep costs down. One of the methods that revolutionize cinematography was the introduction of a technique known as deep focus by Orson Welles. Deep focus is the use of having everything in the frame even the background in focus at the same time contrary to having only the people or object in the foreground in focus (The Denny Life). Moreover, the deep focus technique requires the cinematographer to combine lighting, composition, and type of camera lens to produce the desired effect. For example, Orson Welles use this technique on

The Physics behind Daredevil Motorcycle Jumpers Essay The Physics behind Daredevil Motorcycle Jumpers For a span of about 20 years only a few people were brave enough to be motorcycle stuntmen. Performing death defying jumps were and still are looked upon as a crazy action. It takes much practice, natural skill, and planning for a stuntman to perform a successful jump. Of course practice is dictated by ones determination, skill is acquired with the combination of practice and good genes. And the planning has to do with physics. Sure one could just grip it and rip it go balls out and just jump, but the safe way to do it deals with careful planning, which directly relates to physics topics. So the question is, how do motorcycle jumpers such as Evil Knievel plan out their jumps and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are the two most crucial equations because now the jumper knows the angle of the ramp, the distance he needs to launch over, and the speed he needs to reach in order to clear the gap. He also knows how high he can expect himself launch, that way there are no surprises. The calculations are very important to the success of a motorcycle jump, but physics also play a role in the development of improvements. With better technology comes new improvements; better motorcycles, ramps, and protective gear. Motorcycles will be built with more power, acceleration, and speed. They will be lighter and easier to handle. Bike shocks will be built stronger to resist the impact of the landing and safer protective aprons will be designed to prevent death or serious injury (crash padding). Daredevils will be able to launch further and higher than ever before because the technology of their day will allow them to do so. Although these improvements will help advance the sport of motorcycle jumping, there are still many factors involved. Safety is the most important thing, so riders still need to check all aspects of the jump. An important factor is the ramp itself; is the angle of trajectory right? If it is too high the rider will go to high and fall short of the landing. If the angle is too low, the rider will fall short of the landing. The ramp must have traction for the wheels of the bike to grab hold of and it must be

According to Merriam Webster dictionary, despair means to lose all hope or confidence. In the story, the older waiter and the old deaf man somehow share a common bond of despair. Both men are of age and like to be out, late at night, alone. Asides from the story alone, the theme of the story can be brought out by the setting. Each person deals with despair differently. Having the setting at a cafГ© where it was mentioned that it was quiet help structure the story that it is neither a depressing story nor, a happy story. The two waiters who were gossiping about the old man mentioned that he had committed suicide but, he was saved. Being in a cafГ© is different than rather being in a bar or anywhere else. The cafГ© signifies a place for space or time, depending on the person. The old man is not trying to cure his despair but rather subdue it. The setting could have taken place anywhere but it also could have affected the structure of the story differently. For example, when the older waiter was out trying to kill time due to insomnia, he went to a bar but, it was not soothing; therefore, he went home. This proves how the setting was able to support its main structure of having a cafГ© rather than a different place. Finally, the lesson of the story is that do not be impatient. The setting contributed to how the lesson of the story was delivered. The old deaf man was not harming anyone and the cafГ© was not to close til

Building Integrated Photovoltaic ( Bipv ) Systems Building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems are one of the most promising solar based technologies with the potential to minimise the high energy demands of office buildings in the Adelaide CBD. Recently, the Australian government has put in significant effort to increase the sustainability of existing buildings. The Commercial Building Disclosure (CBD) program, released as part of the Building Energy Efficiency Disclosure Act 2010, requires the owners of Australia s largest office buildings to reveal information regarding their energy consumption and efficiency to the public (Department of Industry and Science 2015). By replacing conventional building materials on the exterior of a building with solar photovoltaic (PV) modules, BIPV allows on site electricity generation to reduce the building s total energy consumption and emissions. A multifunctional technology, the modules can also serve dual functions as roofs, windows, walls, thermal insulation and daylight modulators, increasing energy efficiency and reducing operational costs. It is therefore recommended that the South Australian government develop policies and strategies to encourage the incorporation of BIVP into all future buildings and restoration projects. The development of BIVP standards and procedures will also be necessary to overcome the technical and financial constraints of BIVP and promote more industry professionals to partake in this new and innovative technology. In Australia, commercial buildings

The personalities of both the Harlequin and the Ticktockman are developed through Ellison s imagery of their physical forms and of their personas. The dull setting of the short storyis created through the author s imagery of machinery, particularly clockwork, and Mondrian arrangements. Ellison s use of imagery allows the reader to pull from this story deeper, more significant meaning than what appears on the surface. According to White, the disruptive and rebellious Harlequinis an anomaly: the only human being distinguishable from machines (White, 1). In order to clearly establish the Harlequin as the only individual within his society, Ellison employs the use of strong imagery to cause him to stand out among the rest of the characters. One way that Ellison does this is using rather outlandish language to describe the Harlequin. Aside from being a personality, which in and of itself is outrageous to the System, the Harlequin is also a laughing, irresponsible japer of jabberwocky and jive (953, 955). This imagery of a jesteror a jokester creates the idea that the Harlequin is merely a nuisance to his society rather than a dangerous rebellious force. When the Harlequin is flying the air boat that he uses to drop jelly beans on to the metronomic Timkin workers, he is not described as merely flying this boat over the people

These students would be wrong legally to prevent others from freely speaking their minds in public, but in a college classroom they would be awarded. Censoring is not only in college classrooms, but in high school classrooms as well. It impedes on a student s ability to develop and learn, hinders their ability to prepare for the modern day world. Although clichГ©, and very sadly so, it is very apparent that today there is almost nothing that can be said that offends nobody. Thick skins have been replaced with fragile minds, and college students do not even know the extent of the first amendment. However, these same students believe they have the right to interpret the amendment their own way, and some believe they have the right to become the judiciary system if the speech doesn t appeal to them. When determining an opinion on any argument, it is important to start with the facts. In a survey taken by John Villasenor, forty percent of college students surveyed believe that hate speech is not protected by the first amendment, and twenty percent believe violence used to stop hate speech is acceptable. All those students are wrong. Hate speech is protected by the first amendment, and using violence as justification for ending hate speech is not legal. While not everyone in society has to be a constitutional expert, college students today are tomorrow s future lawyers, judges, police officers, etc. They need to at least know the extent of the first amendment in the United States. Additionally, these students should know that since hate speech is protected, responding with violence is by no means the answer as they will be the only ones to find themselves in jail. These students must lower their fists, and pull out the textbooks and construct the picket signs, using vigorous debate and peaceful protests as their response to bigotry. The other problem is that judges don t sit outside or around college campuses and determine when someone s right to free speech is infringed. Therefore, when a significant portion of the students believe they have the right to silence or prevent the
