Critical Analysis Of Star Wars

Critical Analysis of Star Wars Released in 1977, the original Star Wars movie
quickly became the highest grossing film of all time and it changed the way
people thought of filmography. With its unique special effects and storyline, it
created a new era of Hollywood movies. It became a huge blockbuster and
eventually spawned a new universe that now spans several decades. The films,
now numbering six with three more being made, have a fan base of millions of
people. In order for a film (series) to have that large of a fan base, the fans must be
able to relate to the film. The Star Warsfilms are collectively a modern mythological
narrative, meaning that it represents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This enables the dominant race to grant privileges to some while at the expense of
others. Entrance into this group is usually exclusive to one type of person
(Kendall). In totalitarian and dictatorial instances, such as in Star Wars, the line
between the group in power and all others is bold and easy to see. Those who are
not members of the group in power are subject to discrimination and have fewer
rights and privileges in his or her society. The Star Wars films provide both
symbolic and concrete evidence of this racial disparity. George Lucas use of color
throughout the films is essential in the development of the narrative as well as to
emphasize the progression of the racial inequalities and prejudices between humans
and aliens. The color progression from The Phantom Menace to The Return of The
Jedi acts as a sort of meter pertaining to the collapse of the Republic and the rise of
the Galactic Empire. The first film chronologically, The Phantom Menace, employs
bright, happy colors to convey hope and life. The vibrant colors of Naboo, the
underwater home of the Gungan s, and the interior of many key buildings are all
made up of colors that are synonymous with (relative) peace and innocence. As the
Star Wars prequels progress to A New Hope, the bright colors are overtaken by greys,
blacks, and reds.
The warm color palette is synonymous with democracy, diversity, and
Gas Exchange
Gas Exchange is a physical process. During that physical process diffusion is
involved which are two main gases oxygen (O2) which is needed for respiration,
Carbon dioxide (CO2) that is produced in respiration.
These two main gases are used in aerobic respiration which is the process most living
things undertake for energy. Breathing is one of the physical process that acquire
fibrous movements that take oxygen and carbon dioxide to and from gas exchange
surfaces. Gas Exchange surfaces enable diffusion to and out of cells. These include
skin of earthworms, gills of fishes, and lungs of mammals. For diffusion and Gas
Exchange to occur here they have to have a large surface area dependent on the size
of the organism. They are thin therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gas exchange in honey bees is internal this is to keep as much dampness as possible,
because honey bees live in hives, they get oxygen from the air, which comparatively
has a high concentration of oxygen.
A Honey bee has no lungs for breathing, despite that bees breathe oxygen (needed for
respiration) and exhale carbon dioxide (produced in respiration).
They have a system of tubes which carries oxygen to carbon dioxide away from the
cells. The respiratory system of the honey bee is made up of a cycle of tubes called
the trachea. For example higher groups or species of animals oxygen has been taken
throughout the body by the blood, however in bees including all insects, blood
cannot be used to transport oxygen, instead the trachea are used.Introducing the
system of breathing tubes or tracheal for gas exchange, is associated with the outside

Essay on Cis Memory Management
CIS:328
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to show how memory is used in executing programs and
its critical support for applications. C++ is a general purpose programming language
that runs programs using memory management. Two operating system environments
are commonly used in compiling, building and executing C++ applications. These
are the windows and UNIX / Linux (or some UNIX / Linux derivative) operating
system. In this paper we will explore the implementation of memory management,
processes and threads.
Memory Management
What is a Memory Model?
A memory model allows a compiler to perform many important optimizations. Even
simple compiler optimizations like loop fusion move statements in the program can
influence the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other functions need to be used to segment the virtual memory pages into useful
segments. Since virtual memory is allocated by pages, a number of special paging
features can be used on virtual memory that cannot be used on other types of
memory. For instance, pages can be locked (to prevent read/write access), or they
can be protected from any particular access mode (read, write, execute).
Heap memory and allocating a memory block
Each program is provided with a default process heap, but a process may optionally
allocate any number of additional heaps, if more storage is needed. The heap
functions will manage their virtual memory usage automatically, and therefore heaps
can be set to grow if they are being filled up with data. If a heap is allowed to grow
automatically, the heap functions will automatically allocate additional pages as
needed. On the x86 architecture the heap grows in size towards higher memory
addresses.
To use heap memory, a heap must first be allocated (or a handle must be obtained to
the default heap). Once you have obtained a handle to a heap, you can pass that
handle to the memory allocation functions, to allocate memory from that particular
heap.
Managing process specific memory
The cpu executes a large number of programs while its main concern is the
excution of uer programs, the cpu is also needed for other system activities. These
activities arecalled processs. A process is a program in execution. Typically a batch
job is a process.
Machiavelli The Prince Research Paper
Niccolo Machiavelli (1469 1527) was a politician and philosopher from Florence,
Italy. In his early life Machiavelli was able to witness the various ways countries
dealt with affairs. When he retired, he spent his time writing The Prince (1532), a
handbook for rulers. He made The Prince to explain how a leader gains and
maintains power. His ideas had a very important function in the development of
politics during his time. Machiavelli s political ideas were radical during his time
period. For him, the ideal leader would be one who would unify Italy and bring it
back to the glory days where they controlled most of the Mediterranean area. He
looked at what the Roman Empire did and sought out to find a ruler that would
rebuild Italy. In chapter
Comparing Momo And The Missouri Monster
The Missouri Monster is a creature that seemingly appeared out of nowhere,
finding a home in the forest near an Ancient Greek town. The Missouri Monster, or
Momo, as the Greeks called him, was a terrifyingly fascinating creature. He was
known to feast on local wildlife, occasionally angering citizens by killing their farm
animals. But, all in all, Momo was content and left the Greeks alone. It was for this
reasonand this reason only that the Gods decided to leave Momo alone. They didn t
see the point in punishing a creature that neither hurt not benefit the town living a
few hundred yards from his den. This fact drew the attention of many ruthless
monsters, one of these monsters being Echidna, the mother of all monsters. Echidna

mirrors the growth of large scale farming in the American Midwest but luckily,
thanks to global expansion, the brand is not solely dependent on the declining US
farming market. In the last ten years, Deere has built, acquired or formed joint
ventures for on site manufacturing in Germany, China, Brazil, India, South Africa,
Finland, Sweden and Mexico. Meanwhile, Deere Company hasn t abandoned its
own community. The company contributed to the redevelopment of downtown
Moline, Illinois, which had gone into a dilapidated period when manufacturers
like Farmall, J.I. CASE, and Caterpiller went under or pulled out of the area in the
recession of the 1980s, dealing a serious blow to the blue collar work base of the
Quad City area. Since the mid 90s, downtown Moline has begun a steady climb out
of a decade of seediness and disrepair. With the help of Deere and its construction of
the John Deere Commons and the John Deere Pavilion, which has an impressive
display of antique farming equipment, an architectural and business renaissance of
sorts has come to the downtown area along the river. One of the latest developments

The War of the Roses
The War of the Roses were a series of dynastic wars fought between supporters of
two rival branches of the royal house of plantagenet, the house of Lancaster and
york. This wars were fought in several sprordartic espisodes beteen 1455 and 1487.
In my opinion this war was not necessary for the history of Europe because they
could only had had talked and solve it in a simple way.
The War of the Roses is called The War of the Roses because the two houses are
represented by two roses, the House of Lancaster is represented by a red rose and the
House of Yorkis represented by a white rose. The War of the Roses started because

First Henry VII married Elizabeth of Yorkand had four children: Arthur, Prince of
Wales, Henry VII of England, Margaret Tudor (Queen of Scots) and Mary Tudor

children. Henry VIII got married 6 times with Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn,
Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr, he also had
three children: Mary I of England, Elizabeth I of England and Edward VI of
England. His sister Margaret Tudor got married three times with James IV of
Scotland, Archibald Douglass and Henry Stewart, she had two children: James V
of Scotland and Margaret Douglass. The last one in the family, Mary Tudor only
got married two times, the first one with Louis XII of France and Charles Brandon,
she didn t have any children. Elizabeth of York made part of the House of York and
when she married Henry VII Tudor, the two houses bonded to create the House of
Tudor.
There were many wars during this time, the first one being the War of St. Albans in
1459 where Richards yorkish army defeats Henry s lancastrian army. Again in 1459
The Battle of the Ludford Bridge takes place and this time Henry wins and the

The Poem Love Song By Carol Muske-Dukes
The poem Love Song by Carol Muske Dukes is about lost love. She uses a sparrow
that lost its family. The life in this poem is being lived in a house in a village. The
poem suggests this when it states, He and I had a blue landscape, a village street,
some poems, bread on a plate (stanza 5). The poem doesn t tell us when this poem
takes place only where it happens. The tone of the poem is nostalgic. The bird misses
its family. Two times the poem shows that the bird is nostalgic, All day it pecks at
the tin image of a faceless bird. (stanza 3 4), Lovewas faceless even when we d

Organizations are not buildings or other physical structures; rather, organizations are
the people who work together to achieve a set of goals (Koh Kahn, 1966). These
people come with variant motivations, experiences and values and their individual
differences tend to direct behavior in numerous divergent directions. To direct
behavior toward the accomplishment of a focused mission, the organizations have to
develop mechanism, which reduces behavior variability. Organizational structure and
organizational culture has been described as the mechanisms to reduce behavior
variability (Weber, 1946; Burns Stalker, 1961; Mintzberg, 1979; Schein, 1985; Weick,
1987; Dension, 1990). However both of them have unique impact on individual
behavioral outcomes i.e. satisfaction, stress, motivation, alienation, and performance
etc. It is needed to have a deeper understanding of the functional roles of structural
and cultural forces in the workplace so as to understand the behavioral outcomes of
the individual employees and to reduce the behavioral variability for achieving
organizational goals. For an organization to perform well in a competitive
environment there must be internal consistency among the four dimensions of
How Did Hitler Use Propaganda During Ww2
Wartime propaganda has been a major influence in most, if not all, the wars.
Propaganda was a powerful weapon in war. It was used in the time of war in many
ways. It was utilized to dehumanize and create hatred toward an enemy by creating
a false image in the mind of the soldiers and citizens, and to hold power for a leader
or dictator. Propaganda had a major impact during WWI and WWII. Propaganda
was major to the Nazis ability to seize and hold power in Germany under Adolf
Hitler. Adolf Hitler launched a heavy wave of propaganda to hold his political power
in Germany, which included the elimination of other political parties, an invasion of
neighboring countries, and the violent persecution and genocide of Jews. Joseph

Boyz N The Hood Sociology
Boyz N the Hood, directed by John Singleton is one in many films to showcase the
harsh reality of African Americans living in the hood . Hood films, as characterized
by an identifiable urban setting, such as New York or Los Angeles, and within a
modern time frame, use themes of hip hop culture to highlight the issues that plague
urban minority communities (Massood 145). Singleton, with Boyz N the Hood,
offers a commentary on the harsh experience of young, urban black males by
demonstrating the issues faced by these young men, namely lack of upward mobility
and cyclical and internal violence. One of the main issues highlighted in the film that
plague the communities of young, urban black men is a lack of upward mobility.

The film presents these well, by defining the hood in terms of the economic
destruction felt by South Central neighborhoods from the mid 1970s on, as places
brimming with poverty and unemployment (Massood 150). These areas faced huge
increases in unemployment, and because many of the lost jobs had required little to
no skills or education, many displaced workers were unable to move into other jobs,
and with the subsequent lack of adequate education needed to change employment
tracks and lack of mobility, urban communities, and especially that of young men,
would suffer greatly (Massood 150). The film portrays this by repeatedly showing
groups of young men on porches and street corners. One notable repetition is that of
Doughboy and his crew, since several times throughout the film they are depicted in
the same position. The four are sitting on the porch of the home of Doughboy s
mother and drinking 40 ounce malt liquor, and anytime they see a car they don t like,
they stand up and stare at the car. Groups of other young men are seen throughout the
film, such as at the beginning when they take Ricky s football, and in the
neighborhood in Compton. This re creation of similar scenes throughout the movie

Research Paper On Santa Claus
Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas, and Chris Kringle are names associated with
the most well known figure among all children as Santa Claus. Currently, Santa
lives in the North Pole with his wife Mrs. Claus, reindeer, and his elves who create
toys to give to all of the nice children. For many, the act of making and delivering
presents to all the little boys and girls of the world may appear magical to children
and adults but there is evidence proving that it is all smoke and mirrors. In fact,
devising a trip, delivering the presents, and the eating of cookies can be explained by
science and physics.

Some believers of Santa s magic may state that he is able to eat all of these cookies
because his stomach has magical properties, allowing him to consume mass
amounts of sweets and use it as fuel. From the point of view of a scientist, this can
be explained through the fact that Santa and his sleigh expend a lot of energy and
Assuming Santa comes fully laden with all the toys delivered to children across
the world, he has somewhere around a million tonnes of toys to deliver, assuming
about 4.5 pounds (2 kg) of toys per household (Siegel 1). With Santa expending so
much energy he would need to eat the sweets to power him and maybe even his
sleigh by turning ...those milk and cookies into energy via Einstein s E=mc^2
(Siegel 1). A statement previously mentioned, stated that Santa s belly is magical
and therefore allows Santa to regain his energy. According to science, it would be
impossible for Santa to eat millions of cookies in one night, even if they were as a
replenishment for his depleted energy. Since it is physically impossible for Santa to
eat millions of cookies in one night, He takes many cookies back to the North Pole
with him. One of his favorite activities after he returns home is to separate all the
cookies and remember where they came from. And he will eat them one by one.

The Philosophy Of Humanism During The Early
Renaissance
A significant increase in secular art began in the early Renaissance because of an
enormous gain of wealth by Florence in the early 15th century. The philosophy of
humanism began, combining the values of both spirituality and the worth of the
human mind and experience. The republics people valued the individualism in
humanism, believing their society and its values to represent liberty and freedom.
(Harris Zucker, n.d., para.6). As a result, wealth combined with an interest in
portraying individual power, piety, and human experience created a thriving artistic
market whose patronage was no longer confined to the exclusive domain of the
church. Rather, wealthy private families and government officials began to hire

Beginning with the Renaissance, the dignity of individuals and importance of nature
was explored in artistic design and specifics that strove for the deception of reality,
inspired by human curiosity and scientific interest. Artists as the periods went on got
to the the level of theorists and intellectuals, their skills becoming a relation to their
minds as opposed to their previous treatment in the middle Ages as craftsmen.
For example, the subjects of sculpture and paintings often reflected a growing
interest in private meditation and prayer (Harris Zucker, n.d., para 2), and the desire
of important patrons to create powerful visual displays of wealth and imagery that
cast themselves in a dignified light lead to growing numbers of artists being
commissioned for portraits. During the 15th century, for instance, the Italian
Renaissance resulted in wealthy, cultured Florentine families becoming frequent art
patrons, desiring beautiful and tasteful art for their homes. The Triumph of

The Pros And Cons Of Self-Determination In Nigeria
The federal Republic of Nigeria is a country in western Africa, with its federal capital
situated in Abuja. It comprises of 36 states and has about 174 million inhabitants.
Nigeria is one of the most popular countries in Africa because of its economy, cultural
diversity, ethnicity, movie and music industry. It is also a member of the
commonwealth Nations, African Union and the United Nations. Which implies that
its under the English law (Common law).
Nigeria is also called a multinational state, since it has over 5oo ethnic groups or
tribes. The three major tribes are Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo. Biafra Biafra was a

Self Determination versus Territorial Integrity
The Biafra s did not have their Self Determination, therefore they demanded the right
for Self Determination and the right to maintain their own territorial integrity because
the Nigeria principle of territorial integrity was held over the Easter ants Self
Determination.
In addition, since someone can argue that Self Determination is a legal right it must
be mentioned that Self determination is not an entitlement to independence. This was
just an entitlement to independence in time of colonialism.
The viability of colonial boundaries in Africa
At this time the received wisdom that African boundaries were non negotiable. The
idea was that if the boundaries were successfully challenged it would create more

defended with a great ceil. It was precisely this principle that Biafra attempted to

benefits daily.
Chanting is a large part of the Soccer tradition. If you thought the concept of a bunch
of fans singing and chanting was impressive; you should hear the experience
magnified. The Clink s design makes that possibility a reality. The Sounders benefit
from a true home field advantage during every match.
If Seattle is looking for an edge all it has to do is pull out it s wallet. The Sounders
benefit from a unique financial situation. Remember the marketing strategies I
mentioned earlier ? I guarantee you that at least 90% of them are profitable. Seattle
s still rolling in the dough regardless because they play rent free. Talk about an edge.
Everyone would function at a higher level if they didn t have to worry about money.
Some stadiums are part of the city s image. Others are a part of the city s skyline.
But the most famous ones become global icons. People from all over the world will
be able to recognize them. The Clink falls into the latter
Promoting Judo to Tier A Elite Sport in Hong Kong Essay

It clearly validates that elitism is not contradictory to popularization and windsurfing
is a favourable demonstration of the above. After the victory of Lee Lai Shan at the
1996 Atlanta Centennial Olympics, Hong Kong government invested a considerable
amount of resources in windsurfing. Judo can absolutely follow the track of
windsurfing since some marvellous Judo players are performing outstandingly in the
international competitions; for example, YU Kin Ting captured a gold medal in
Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games. Promoting judo to Tier A, therefore, helps the
promotion of Judo in the community in fact, which simultaneously indicates that the
elevation of Judo is an essential and compulsory element in the process of
popularization and the road of Judo for all .
Judo, in alternative vision, is a special sport that highly emphasizing the moral spirit

other aspects brought on by sports, such as, health status enhancement, socio cultural
issues, including globalization and institutionalization of judo, rather than trophies
and winning. One can argue that judo elitism alone is a catalyst of all the issues
mentioned above, which is even more effective than other sport events.

Everyone thinks it s so easy and cool to join Armed Forces, but to be honest, half of
them don t even know what the effects would be when they join and after they
leave the military. People usually take our veterans for granted and they don t
acknowledge what veterans have done for us and our country. Veterans should be
shown respect when they come back home, but they don t and to me that s just
disrespectful and it also shows how out of line citizens are. Everyone who has
fought for their country, chose to fight, they never had to, but because they seen that
people needed to be protected, they put their lives on the line. The least we could do
is say Thank you! but no, they don t even get that and that s really messed up. They
took a bullet for this country, they lost their lives for this country, they have
nightmares every night because of things they had to see while defending this
country. What do we do to show them our appreciation though? Nothing. As a result,
most veterans don t feel a sense of belonging and loyalty to their country.
Many African Americanveterans salute and pledge an oath of loyalty to their
country, but even after they have protected it, they don t get protection back in
return. All the black soldiers who have came back or have been killed while in the
frontline, either don t get remembered, get disrespected, or get killed when they
come back from serving. After all
The Market For College Literature
The market for college literature has expanded over the past few decades. College
students now have a choice in buying their text books in form of E Book, hypertext,
or even in paper form. However, some believe that the different types of presentation
platforms differ in comprehension level. Jabr (2012) expressed concern for the
comprehension of electronic readingby using an example of a common YouTube
video of a one year old girl who seemed more interested in the iPad than a paper
book. The child expressed confusion when the paper book did not change pages with
the simple swipe of her fingers like the iPad s pages. For children, who grow up in a

Some programs use up and down arrow keys, some use the scroll bar, others use a
swipe of the finger. The effect of the navigational procedure of scrolling, as
Wästlund concluded, has negative implications on the mental workload required
to read the article due to the shifting of focus to the page movement. Another
navigational problem with electronic reading was discovered by Manger et al.,
(2013) who found that difficult tracking placement due to scroll bar mechanics
would negatively impact the reader s ability to focus on the reading. Manger also
found that the ability to task switch between windows also made it difficult for
participants to keep track of their previous reading placement. The negative effect of
task switching was shown to also effect participants adjacent from the task switcher
in Fried s conclusion (2008). The presence of a computer in the room can create a lot
of distraction for those nearby who may not be using an electronic device. Research
has pointed to task switching being a direct influence on the negative performance
to comprehension in electronic conditions (Fried, 2008; Manger et al. 2013;
Bowman et al. 2010). Latency, the lagging or delay of a program s task, would also
be a negative mechanic that overall threw off the readers ability to navigate and read
effectively. With latency while viewing the materials, participants find it difficult to

A Closer Look at Mimas Essay
The Saturn Moon Mimas Mimas is an inner moon of Saturn and is the innermost
of the major moons, which are Enceliadus, Tethys, Dione, Rhea, Titan, Hyperion,
Iapetus, and Phoebe. Mimas has a crater named the Herschel Crater, which is
approximately 88 miles and one third the diameter of Mimas. The walls of the
Herschel Crater are approximately 3 miles high and parts of the floor of the crater
range approximately 6 miles deep. The central peak towers of the Herschel Crater
on Mimas are almost 4 miles above the floor of the crater. To imagine this crater on
Earth, it would be around 4,000 kilometers. A English astronomer named William
Herschel, had been using his 40 foot reflector telescope when he had made the

This close orbit means that Mimas probably has received several times the rate of
collisions as the collisions of other moons of Saturn. Mimas and another Saturn
moon, Rhea, have been called the most heavily cratered bodies in the Solar
System. It is believed that the craters on Mimas have been around since the
beginning of the Solar System. Mimas is so heavily cratered that new impacts will
overwrite the old craters that were created in the past. There just is not a part of
the Mimas that has not been pounded by impacts. Mimas being closer to Saturn is
what kept it from being heavily cratered compared to Saturn s other moon Rhea.
Results of the crater impacts are hard to detect due to Mimas being a warmer and
consequently softer moon, which over a period of time its earlier features had
faded away as a result of this. The older bigger craters can still be seen, even with
all the impacts the moon has received. Most of the surface on Mimas is saturated
with impact craters, which the range in size is greater than 25 miles in diameter. But
no others are nearly as large as the well known crater Herschel. This suggests that
early in its history, Mimas was probably impacted by even larger bodies than the one
that had created Herschel, which had completely disrupted the new moon, wiping

Theme Of Women In Pygmalion
In the Victorian England period, how a person is viewed by society determines
everything. What kind of jobs are available, who it is ok to marry, and even who is
acceptable to interact with. How a person is viewed can change their life for better
or for worse, and sadly women during this period must work twice as hard as their
male counterparts to get the crucial social respect needed to succeed in their
societies. How a person appears and how they dress plays a big part on how
someone is viewed, but flower girl turned duchess Eliza Doolittle must learn the
hard way that just because a person fits the outside criteria of a lady does not exactly
mean she would be treated as so, by society and most of all her mentor Henry
Higgins. Throughout the play, Pygmalion, By George Bernard Shaw, the author
makes the theme of prejudice against women very apparent by the way they are
treated in society and the unreasonable expectations they are held up to, making it
very difficult for women like Eliza Doolittle to move up in society and be seen as
equal in the eyes of those above them. For the most part, women during this time
have a very hard time acclimating to society s standards and being treated as equal,
especially by men. Whether they like it or not, the prejudice held against women in
the hearts of the patriarchal society pulls them down and makes it hard to be treated
equally, even if a person is born in a wealthy, high class family. The discrimination
only gets worse for those

A Summary Of Hunting
Supporters of hunting state that most of the money earned from people coming in to
hunt goes to local communities, however those communities will almost never see
any of it. Many local communities hold charity or fundraising events by inviting
hunters to come hunt because they spend thousands to hunt one animal. For example,
the Namibian government held on of these fundraisers, and allowed the black rhino to
be hunted. They then claimed that the money went to a conservation for black rhinos,
but the money was nowhere to be found. This is a clear statement for how the money
really is going rather than what supporters of huntingclaim to be saying. According to
an article written by Teresa Telecky, she argues that even though lots of money is
Causes Of The French Revolution Of 1789-1799
The French Revolution of 1789 1799
The French Revolution was a violent and a transitional period in French history that
shook both the continent of Europe and France itself. The French Revolution
stemmed from a vast set of motives. The influences of the French Revolution were
both internal due to the government of France, political divides, and an impoverished
economy from wars and also externally from Enlightenment philosophy and the
outcome of the American Revolution (Schwartz, The French Revolution: Causes,
Outcomes, Conflicting Interpretations. Causes of the French Revolution). The results
of the French Revolution are incalculable and can be influential today; however, there
were immediate consequences that changed french culture, politics and government.
One of the first causes of the French Revolution of 1789 1799 was the failed
harvests in 1788 and 1789 known as the agrarian crisis of 1788 1789. The year
prior to the French Revolution was plagued by a drought leading to poor crop
yield. In addition, the winter following the poor harvest was the coldest in decades
(Llewellyn , Jennifer, and Steve Thompson, Harvest Failures. ). The lack of food
led to an increase in prices that most of the french citizens could not afford. Most of
the population was spending almost all of their income solely on food. The french
government deregulated the grain market and provided little aid to the poor
commoners. These actions sowed the seeds of rebellion and opposition in the French

One agency that has trouble had an impact on me and the people around me is the
American Red Cross Organization. While I was in the military I received news

Red Cross Organization had informed me of the news processed my leave forms
through my unit and paid for my plane ticket and they even found dog sitters for
me. In less than 12 hours, I was at the airport awaiting my flight. They took care of
everything that I needed in order to make it home without a single bit of chaos. The
American Red Cross Organization was founded in Washington, D.C. on May 21,

Persuasive Essay On How To Make Makeup
With a million different shades, a bountiful of techniques, and the hidden
technicalities, makeup will always be a struggle. The face serves as a canvas, and
like all kinds of artwork, it has its own share of mistakes that you cannot help but
make. Makeup is not expected to be perfect on the first try, so it is okay. Below you
will read some of the most commonly made makeup mistakes and mishaps.
Before putting anything on your face, you have to make sure your face is as clean as
it can be. Even in this process people make a number of mistakes.
You may have all the products you need, moisturizer, cream, face masks, and so on,
but if you leave out the right way to cleaning your face then you might neglect the
use of these products in the first place.
Dr. Nicholas Perricone, MD, emphasizes that it is a common point of confusion. He
speaks on how it should be correctly done and what people are unconsciously doing
wrong.
Whether you are in your teens, 20s or have mature skin, the basics are the same: To
avoid irritation, stay away from scrubbing grains, abrasive pads/washcloths, alcohol
based toners and astringents. These can disturb the normal skin pH and produce
inflammation and dryness that will age and damage the skin.
It is also not a good thing to wash your face with hot water because the temperature
will cause your face to get rid of its needed natural oils that will keep the skin from
being parched. It is much better to go for either cold water or something lukewarm.
Emily Orofino also lists on PopSugar.com makeup mistakes that she has noticed over
time. The first to take attention to are the brushes you need for makeup in the first
place.
No matter what the situation, it is important to keep your makeup brushes clean.
When your makeup brushes are not cleaned regularly, you are at a risk of breaking
out or messing up your future looks. Everyone has to go through this, even
professionals.
Another one that is commonly observed is the foundation application process. Of
course, it is important to know what shade is the best for us. The problem lies on
where we test the shade.
Orofino sheds some light on a common mistake that is testing the shade on the back
of our hand. When testing the shade on the
Medicine In The Elizabethan Era
Herbal Remedies and Poisons in Elizabethan Times
In this day and age, there are millions of pharmaceuticals out there for all kinds of
diseases and conditions, but where did all of this start? The creation of medicines
most likely started when people discovered the healing properties plants contained.
Today, civilization has the knowledge and technology to extract elements from plants
to produce more chemically engineered medicines. The real question is how did
medicines develop from mashing up leaves in order to lessen an infuriating rash to
just popping a pill to nurse or illness? Medicines evolved by the scientific method:
series of research and experiments. During the Elizabethan era, research and
experimentation attained a renewed interest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Medicines were mostly produced to cure diseases. Back in the 1600s scurvy and
malaria were huge problems that needed to be dealt with. As mentioned in
previous paragraph malaria was treated by the bark of the Cinchona tree and is
still used today. The bark of the Cinchona tree (called quina quina by the
indigenous Peruvians), found in the rain forests along the Amazon River in the
Andes of South America, contained an ingredient called quinine, which is still
used in the treatment of malaria, a disease transmitted by the bite of an infected
mosquito and one of the oldest plagues of mankind (Cassell, Dank K., and Cynthia
A. Sanoski). This shows that achievements made back then are still important to
this date. Scurvy was a disease caused by vitamin deficiency, but that was not
known back then. Jacques Cartier is a French explorer whose crew got infected
with scurvy. Jacques and his crew came in contact with an Iroquois tribe in the
New World, who knew how to cure scurvy. The women of the tribe would use
juniper needles and bark to make a tea and use the leftover tea to wash the affected
person s leg. Juniper needles and bark contain a lot of vitamins the human body
needs, so when the affected person drank the juniper tea they got all the vitamins
they lost back in turn curing scurvy. Poisons also had reasons why they were needed.

At the turn of 1925, Reza Shah began the Pahlavi dynasty in Iran. He is mostly
known for his attempts in modernizing Iran on the basis of the West. With this in
mind, Reza Shah showed some of the biggest reform movements throughout Iranian

Leo Africanus By, Amin Maalouf
In the book Leo Africanus it is a fictionalized biography of a real person, Hasan al
Wazzan. Hasan and his family were forced to flee to Fez, where he grew up and
became a very well off merchant. The book really gives a clear picture of his family
life as a child, his education, his marriages, his travels, and his bitter sweet
reminiscence of exile. The narrator of Amin Maalouf s historical novel, Hasan al
Wazzan who came to be named Leo Africanuswas born in 1488, in the weakening
days of Moorish Granada. At the age of 4, Hasan and his family went into exile, like
many other Muslims and Jews who declined to accept the new faith and managed to

He finds a lifelong friend at school, Harun, and together they roam the streets of the
city, looking for adventure. Hasan accompanies his uncle on his first tactful
mission, and as their caravan roam the huge Sahara, his uncle fills in the historic
gaps for young Hasan, teaching him the art of storytelling. His tone was so
reassuring, Hasan later recalls, that it made me breathe once more the odors of the
Granada of my birth, and his prose was so bewitching that my camel seemed to
move forwards in time with the rise and fall of its rhythms. When the uncle dies,
Hasan takes command of the caravan and returns home with his first wife, while his
sister Miriam is forced to the lepers quarter in Fez.
At the end of the fifteenth century, however, Fez was still enjoying great
commercial prosperity and was at the peak of its fame as a seat of learning, its
mosques, and libraries being the resort of students from many parts of the Muslim
world, it was therefore the most natural haven for the exiles from Granada.
Next, his travels took him eastward across the Sahara to Egypt en route to Mecca

UCLA would go on to finish 10 3 in back to back seasons, which many would think
is an average to good season for UCLA. However, Los Angeles had been dominated
by the Trojans and their record from 1990 2009 is a clear example of that. USC
played in 13 bowl games in 19 years not counting the two games that were vacated.
USC would also win eight conference championships in this span of 19 years, also
not counting the one they would vacate in 2005. USC would also go on to win one
national championship during that span but would have to vacate another from
their 2004 season. UCLA, on the other hand, didn t experience the same level of
success. The traditional basketball powerhouse went to the same number of bowls
before the sanctions were handed down however they didn t receive much
notoriety for their achievements as they only amassed three conference

Online Teaching Vs. Traditional Teaching
Since the beginning of human existence every generation tried to pass its knowledge
to the next generation. At first it started orally and by the time writing was invented,
human species started writing in books and after that education developed until

only traditional but also online. Online teaching is the newest and most popular
form of distance education today that takes place over the internet. It is a high tech

academic performance. Robinson and Doverspike (2006) said that an important
person in a student s life may influence their choice of whether or not to take an
online course. For example, parents may tell their children to enroll in only
traditional courses, as they did when in college, because they believe that their

The constitution has many well detailed and interesting facts throughout, and I ve
located a few facts that I didn t realize were in the constitution and I also found them
to be quite interesting. The first thing I ve located was this; The President shall be
Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of
the several states . I had no idea that the president was the Commander in Chief of
the Army and Navy. He has the Power with the advice and consent of the senate, to

Organization Decision Making Process
An organization continually makes decisions at all levels. Until the past decade, most
organizations and their managers and employees operated in an information and
knowledge fog, making decisions based on best guesses about the past and present,
and making expensive errors in the process. Many have failed throughout the course
trying to improve the decision making process, there are many ways that contribute to
the failure. Organizations can easily miss the market, by not having the right
intelligence, analysis, not acting on agreements, having inadequate capitalization or
simply because the competitors are doing better job. Another crucial failure during
the process is poor execution, when there is ineffective leadership, inefficient
operations, and excessive costs. Not following the right strategies is another
contributor of failure, not having the right products and services, ineffective
marketing, utilizing outdated technologies and not adjusting to the frequent changes
on the market in today s competitive world. Nevertheless, several steps can guide us
to making the right decision. The first is to declare a decision, recognize that an
organization ought to make a decision, second is to decide what to make with that
decision and finally execute the decision to create results and changes in the outcome
of those decisions. There are four stages in the decision making, intelligence, design,
choice and implementation. All of these steps consist of discovering,

Comments like the one Hasan made at the lecture concerned many of his coworkers
but nothing was ever done. A few months before the Fort Hood shootingHasan, was
promoted to Major and he was transferred to the U.S. Army base in Fort Hood, Texas.
The Group Responsible for the Attack
It is still undetermined if Al Qaeda was directly responsible to the Fort Hood
Shooting. It is known that Hasan was in contact with Anwar al Awlaki, a known Al
Qaeda supporter/member for months before the Fort Hood attack. The FBI Agents
in San Diego had been investigating Awlaki, a former San Diego resident, for his
possible connections to the 9/11 hijackers. During their investigation is when agents
discovered the emails that Hasan had sent Awlaki (http://abcnews.go.com). The
investigation into the shoot has not revealed any evidence that Hasan was directed
by anyone to commit the shooting. It is believed that Hasan acted alone and that
Awlaki or Al Qaeda had no direct involvement in the incident. Hasan is considered a
lone wolf terrorists or a terrorist who commits acts of terrorism without being
directed by anyone. After the Fort Hood attack Awlaki did comment on his web site
by stating that Hasan was a hero and that every Muslim should do the

Mezcala Bridge Research Project The considerations of the bridge for the high
speed rail coming through the a.v. is when designing high speed rail to the antelope
valley. The considerations are is that the kids or young adults of the antelope valley
area are able to go to colleges in san diego and back home to the AV in the matter of
just minutes. The bridge is to get over the highway to get to L.A. so they will be less
traffic to L.A. There are some things that we also need to know that we just need to
know if it cost just enough.
The Mezcala Bridge or Mezcala Solidaridad is the thirteenth largest bridges in the
world. The location of the bridge are in the state of Guerrero in Mexico on Highway
95. The beginning of the Mezcala Bridge was started at 1989 and with a total
length of 891 m (2,923 ft) and six uneven spans completed in 1993. Being in service
since 1994, no major disasters has touched the bridge s existence. The bridge still
stands as strong as the day it was build.
This cable stayed bridge spans across the Balsas River known locally as the
Mezcala River close to the western Pacific coast of the country. The name of the
bridge is obviously related to the river it hovers. It is located at 221 kilometers of
the Autopista del Sol connecting to the city of Cuernavaca in the state of Morelos
with Acapulco, in Guerrero state coast. The valley passes over the bridge is

to see Alberta who went into labor early. Rose tells Troy that Gabriel has been
taken away to the asylum because Troy couldn t read the papers and signed him
away. Alberta had a baby girl but died during childbirth. Troy challenges Death to
come and get him after he builds a fence. Troy brings home his baby, Raynell. Rose
takes in Raynell as her own child, but refuses to be dutiful as Troy s wife. On Troy
s payday, Bono shows up unexpectedly. Troy and Bono acknowledge how each man
made good on his bet about the fence and the refrigerator. Troy insists that Cory
leave the house and provide for himself. Cory brings up Troy s recent failings with
Rose. Cory points out that the house and property, from which Troy is throwing
Cory out, should actually be owned by Gabriel whose government checks paid for
most of the mortgage payments. Troy physically attacks Cory. Troy kicks Cory out
of the house for good. Cory leaves. Troy swings the baseball bat in the air, taunting
Death. Eight years later, Raynell plays in her newly planted garden. Troy has died

Critical Analysis Of Star Wars James Nathan Walters Professor Kevin Copeland English 2106 3 December 2015 Critical Analysis of Star Wars Released in 1977, the original Star Wars movie quickly became the highest grossing film of all time and it changed the way people thought of filmography. With its unique special effects and storyline, it created a new era of Hollywood movies. It became a huge blockbuster and eventually spawned a new universe that now spans several decades. The films, now numbering six with three more being made, have a fan base of millions of people. This enables the dominant race to grant privileges to some while at the expense of others. Entrance into this group is usually exclusive to one type of person (Kendall). In totalitarian and dictatorial instances, such as in Star Wars, the line between the group in power and all others is bold and easy to see. Those who are not members of the group in power are subject to discrimination and have fewer rights and privileges in his or her society. The Star Wars films provide both symbolic and concrete evidence of this racial disparity. George Lucas use of color throughout the films is essential in the development of the narrative as well as to emphasize the progression of the racial inequalities and prejudices between humans and aliens. The color progression from The Phantom Menace to The Return of The Jedi acts as a sort of meter pertaining to the collapse of the Republic and the rise of the Galactic Empire. The first film chronologically, The Phantom Menace, employs bright, happy colors to convey hope and life. The vibrant colors of Naboo, the underwater home of the Gungan s, and the interior of many key buildings are all made up of colors that are synonymous with (relative) peace and innocence. As the Star Wars prequels progress to A New Hope, the bright colors are overtaken by greys, blacks, and reds. The warm color palette is synonymous with democracy, diversity, and

  • 4. Essay on Cis Memory Management CIS:328 Abstract The purpose of this paper is to show how memory is used in executing programs and its critical support for applications. C++ is a general purpose programming language that runs programs using memory management. Two operating system environments are commonly used in compiling, building and executing C++ applications. These are the windows and UNIX / Linux (or some UNIX / Linux derivative) operating system. In this paper we will explore the implementation of memory management, processes and threads. Other functions need to be used to segment the virtual memory pages into useful segments. Since virtual memory is allocated by pages, a number of special paging features can be used on virtual memory that cannot be used on other types of memory. For instance, pages can be locked (to prevent read/write access), or they can be protected from any particular access mode (read, write, execute). Heap memory and allocating a memory block Each program is provided with a default process heap, but a process may optionally allocate any number of additional heaps, if more storage is needed. The heap functions will manage their virtual memory usage automatically, and therefore heaps can be set to grow if they are being filled up with data. If a heap is allowed to grow automatically, the heap functions will automatically allocate additional pages as needed. On the x86 architecture the heap grows in size towards higher memory addresses. To use heap memory, a heap must first be allocated (or a handle must be obtained to the default heap). Once you have obtained a handle to a heap, you can pass that handle to the memory allocation functions, to allocate memory from that particular heap. Managing process specific memory The cpu executes a large number of programs while its main concern is the excution of uer programs, the cpu is also needed for other system activities. These activities arecalled processs. A process is a program in execution. Typically a batch job is a process.

To direct behavior toward the accomplishment of a focused mission, the organizations have to develop mechanism, which reduces behavior variability. Organizational structure and organizational culture has been described as the mechanisms to reduce behavior variability (Weber, 1946; Burns Stalker, 1961; Mintzberg, 1979; Schein, 1985; Weick, 1987; Dension, 1990). Hood films, as characterized by an identifiable urban setting, such as New York or Los Angeles, and within a modern time frame, use themes of hip hop culture to highlight the issues that plague urban minority communities (Massood 145). Singleton, with Boyz N the Hood, offers a commentary on the harsh experience of young, urban black males by demonstrating the issues faced by these young men, namely lack of upward mobility and cyclical and internal violence. The film presents these well, by defining the hood in terms of the economic destruction felt by South Central neighborhoods from the mid 1970s on, as places brimming with poverty and unemployment (Massood 150). These areas faced huge increases in unemployment, and because many of the lost jobs had required little to no skills or education, many displaced workers were unable to move into other jobs, and with the subsequent lack of adequate education needed to change employment tracks and lack of mobility, urban communities, and especially that of young men, would suffer greatly (Massood 150). The film portrays this by repeatedly showing groups of young men on porches and street corners. One notable repetition is that of Doughboy and his crew, since several times throughout the film they are depicted in the same position. The four are sitting on the porch of the home of Doughboy s mother and drinking 40 ounce malt liquor, and anytime they see a car they don t like, they stand up and stare at the car. Some believers of Santa s magic may state that he is able to eat all of these cookies because his stomach has magical properties, allowing him to consume mass amounts of sweets and use it as fuel. From the point of view of a scientist, this can be explained through the fact that Santa and his sleigh expend a lot of energy and Assuming Santa comes fully laden with all the toys delivered to children across the world, he has somewhere around a million tonnes of toys to deliver, assuming about 4.5 pounds (2 kg) of toys per household (Siegel 1). With Santa expending so much energy he would need to eat the sweets to power him and maybe even his sleigh by turning ...those milk and cookies into energy via Einstein s E=mc^2 (Siegel 1). A statement previously mentioned, stated that Santa s belly is magical and therefore allows Santa to regain his energy. Since it is physically impossible for Santa to eat millions of cookies in one night, He takes many cookies back to the North Pole with him. One of his favorite activities after he returns home is to separate all the cookies and remember where they came from. And he will eat them one by one. (Westover 1). This

Everyone who has fought for their country, chose to fight, they never had to, but because they seen that people needed to be protected, they put their lives on the line. The least we could do is say Thank you! but no, they don t even get that and that s really messed up. They took a bullet for this country, they lost their lives for this country, they have nightmares every night because of things they had to see while defending this country. What do we do to show them our appreciation though? Nothing. As a result, most veterans don t feel a sense of belonging and loyalty to their country. Many African Americanveterans salute and pledge an oath of loyalty to their country, but even after they have protected it, they don t get protection back in return. All the black soldiers who have came back or have been killed while in the frontline, either don t get remembered, get disrespected, or get killed when they come back from serving. After all
  • 27. The Market For College Literature The market for college literature has expanded over the past few decades. College students now have a choice in buying their text books in form of E Book, hypertext, or even in paper form. However, some believe that the different types of presentation platforms differ in comprehension level. Jabr (2012) expressed concern for the comprehension of electronic readingby using an example of a common YouTube video of a one year old girl who seemed more interested in the iPad than a paper book. The child expressed confusion when the paper book did not change pages with the simple swipe of her fingers like the iPad s pages. The effect of the navigational procedure of scrolling, as WГ¤stlund concluded, has negative implications on the mental workload required to read the article due to the shifting of focus to the page movement. Another navigational problem with electronic reading was discovered by Manger et al., (2013) who found that difficult tracking placement due to scroll bar mechanics would negatively impact the reader s ability to focus on the reading. Manger also found that the ability to task switch between windows also made it difficult for participants to keep track of their previous reading placement. The negative effect of task switching was shown to also effect participants adjacent from the task switcher in Fried s conclusion (2008). The presence of a computer in the room can create a lot of distraction for those nearby who may not be using an electronic device. Research has pointed to task switching being a direct influence on the negative performance to comprehension in electronic conditions (Fried, 2008; Manger et al. 2013; Bowman et al. 2010). Latency, the lagging or delay of a program s task, would also be a negative mechanic that overall threw off the readers ability to navigate and read effectively. With latency while viewing the materials, participants find it difficult to understand and stay

A Closer Look at Mimas Essay The Saturn Moon Mimas Mimas is an inner moon of Saturn and is the innermost of the major moons, which are Enceliadus, Tethys, Dione, Rhea, Titan, Hyperion, Iapetus, and Phoebe. Mimas has a crater named the Herschel Crater, which is approximately 88 miles and one third the diameter of Mimas. The walls of the Herschel Crater are approximately 3 miles high and parts of the floor of the crater range approximately 6 miles deep. The central peak towers of the Herschel Crater on Mimas are almost 4 miles above the floor of the crater. To imagine this crater on Earth, it would be around 4,000 kilometers. This close orbit means that Mimas probably has received several times the rate of collisions as the collisions of other moons of Saturn. Mimas and another Saturn moon, Rhea, have been called the most heavily cratered bodies in the Solar System. It is believed that the craters on Mimas have been around since the beginning of the Solar System. Mimas is so heavily cratered that new impacts will overwrite the old craters that were created in the past. There just is not a part of the Mimas that has not been pounded by impacts. Mimas being closer to Saturn is what kept it from being heavily cratered compared to Saturn s other moon Rhea. Results of the crater impacts are hard to detect due to Mimas being a warmer and consequently softer moon, which over a period of time its earlier features had faded away as a result of this. The older bigger craters can still be seen, even with all the impacts the moon has received. Most of the surface on Mimas is saturated with impact craters, which the range in size is greater than 25 miles in diameter. But no others are nearly as large as the well known crater Herschel. This suggests that early in its history, Mimas was probably impacted by even larger bodies than the one that had created Herschel, which had completely disrupted the new moon, wiping

  • 30. Theme Of Women In Pygmalion In the Victorian England period, how a person is viewed by society determines everything. What kind of jobs are available, who it is ok to marry, and even who is acceptable to interact with. How a person is viewed can change their life for better or for worse, and sadly women during this period must work twice as hard as their male counterparts to get the crucial social respect needed to succeed in their societies. How a person appears and how they dress plays a big part on how someone is viewed, but flower girl turned duchess Eliza Doolittle must learn the hard way that just because a person fits the outside criteria of a lady does not exactly mean she would be treated as so, by society and most of all her mentor Henry Higgins. Throughout the play, Pygmalion, By George Bernard Shaw, the author makes the theme of prejudice against women very apparent by the way they are treated in society and the unreasonable expectations they are held up to, making it very difficult for women like Eliza Doolittle to move up in society and be seen as equal in the eyes of those above them. For the most part, women during this time have a very hard time acclimating to society s standards and being treated as equal, especially by men. Whether they like it or not, the prejudice held against women in the hearts of the patriarchal society pulls them down and makes it hard to be treated equally, even if a person is born in a wealthy, high class family. The discrimination only gets worse for those

Causes Of The French Revolution Of 1789-1799 The French Revolution of 1789 1799 The French Revolution was a violent and a transitional period in French history that shook both the continent of Europe and France itself. The French Revolution stemmed from a vast set of motives. The influences of the French Revolution were both internal due to the government of France, political divides, and an impoverished economy from wars and also externally from Enlightenment philosophy and the outcome of the American Revolution (Schwartz, The French Revolution: Causes, Outcomes, Conflicting Interpretations. Causes of the French Revolution). The results of the French Revolution are incalculable and can be influential today; however, there were immediate consequences that changed french culture, politics and government. One of the first causes of the French Revolution of 1789 1799 was the failed harvests in 1788 and 1789 known as the agrarian crisis of 1788 1789. The year prior to the French Revolution was plagued by a drought leading to poor crop yield. In addition, the winter following the poor harvest was the coldest in decades (Llewellyn , Jennifer, and Steve Thompson, Harvest Failures. ). The lack of food led to an increase in prices that most of the french citizens could not afford. Most of the population was spending almost all of their income solely on food. The french government deregulated the grain market and provided little aid to the poor commoners. These actions sowed the seeds of rebellion and opposition in the French

The face serves as a canvas, and like all kinds of artwork, it has its own share of mistakes that you cannot help but make. Makeup is not expected to be perfect on the first try, so it is okay. Below you will read some of the most commonly made makeup mistakes and mishaps. Before putting anything on your face, you have to make sure your face is as clean as it can be. Even in this process people make a number of mistakes. You may have all the products you need, moisturizer, cream, face masks, and so on, but if you leave out the right way to cleaning your face then you might neglect the use of these products in the first place. Dr. Nicholas Perricone, MD, emphasizes that it is a common point of confusion. He speaks on how it should be correctly done and what people are unconsciously doing wrong. Whether you are in your teens, 20s or have mature skin, the basics are the same: To avoid irritation, stay away from scrubbing grains, abrasive pads/washcloths, alcohol based toners and astringents. These can disturb the normal skin pH and produce inflammation and dryness that will age and damage the skin. It is also not a good thing to wash your face with hot water because the temperature will cause your face to get rid of its needed natural oils that will keep the skin from being parched. It is much better to go for either cold water or something lukewarm. Emily Orofino also lists on PopSugar.com makeup mistakes that she has noticed over time. The first to take attention to are the brushes you need for makeup in the first place. No matter what the situation, it is important to keep your makeup brushes clean. When your makeup brushes are not cleaned regularly, you are at a risk of breaking out or messing up your future looks. Everyone has to go through this, even professionals. Another one that is commonly observed is the foundation application process. Of course, it is important to know what shade is the best for us. The problem lies on where we test the shade. Orofino sheds some light on a common mistake that is testing the shade on the back of our hand. When testing the shade on the

Medicine In The Elizabethan Era Herbal Remedies and Poisons in Elizabethan Times In this day and age, there are millions of pharmaceuticals out there for all kinds of diseases and conditions, but where did all of this start? The creation of medicines most likely started when people discovered the healing properties plants contained. Today, civilization has the knowledge and technology to extract elements from plants to produce more chemically engineered medicines. The real question is how did medicines develop from mashing up leaves in order to lessen an infuriating rash to just popping a pill to nurse or illness? As mentioned in previous paragraph malaria was treated by the bark of the Cinchona tree and is still used today. The bark of the Cinchona tree (called quina quina by the indigenous Peruvians), found in the rain forests along the Amazon River in the Andes of South America, contained an ingredient called quinine, which is still used in the treatment of malaria, a disease transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito and one of the oldest plagues of mankind (Cassell, Dank K., and Cynthia A. Sanoski). This shows that achievements made back then are still important to this date. Scurvy was a disease caused by vitamin deficiency, but that was not known back then. Jacques Cartier is a French explorer whose crew got infected with scurvy. Jacques and his crew came in contact with an Iroquois tribe in the New World, who knew how to cure scurvy.
