Financial Need Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of "Financial Need" can be quite challenging for several reasons.
Firstly, it requires a delicate balance between showcasing one's financial circumstances without
sounding overly desperate or seeking pity. It's essential to convey genuine need without
appearing to manipulate emotions. Secondly, there's the task of articulating how financial
constraints have impacted one's life, academic pursuits, and future aspirations. This involves
introspection and the ability to communicate personal experiences in a compelling yet concise
manner. Additionally, addressing the significance of financial aid and how it aligns with one's
goals requires a clear understanding of one's academic and career trajectory. It's essential to
present a coherent argument that illustrates the necessity of financial assistance for achieving
these objectives.
Moreover, crafting such an essay demands sensitivity and tact. Discussing financial struggles can
be deeply personal and potentially uncomfortable. Finding the right tone that balances honesty
with professionalism is crucial. Furthermore, there's the challenge of standing out among
numerous applicants who may also be vying for financial aid. It's necessary to convey uniqueness
and authenticity while adhering to any guidelines or word limits provided by the application.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of financial need necessitates navigating various
complexities, including emotional vulnerability, strategic communication, and adherence to
guidelines. It requires introspection, clarity of purpose, and the ability to articulate one's
circumstances and aspirations compellingly. Despite its challenges, effectively communicating
financial need can be a crucial component of securing necessary support for academic pursuits.

Nature Of The Human Condition In Mutability, By Percy
Shelley
Percy Shelley, a prominent and influential poet of the Romantic era, wrote many
poems that describe the nature of the human condition. Similar to other Romantic
poets, Shelley found tranquility and peace in nature, he was captivated by clouds,
mists, rivers, seas. In his poems, Shelley uses these natural elements to discuss truths
about the human condition. Specifically, in his poem Mutability Shelley shows the
ever changing fragility and unpredictability of the human condition. The poem starts
by allowing the reader and Shelley to become the subjects of the poem by using the
subject pronoun we. According to the Norton Anthology of English Literature, this
adaptation of the traditional Lyric poem draws specific attention to Shelley s... Show

In the second stanza, Shelley describes the ever changing frailty of human existence.
In lines, five through nine humans are described as forgotten lyres, whose dissonant
strings/ Give various response to each varying blast, / To whose frail frame no second
motion brings/ One mood or modulation like the last. This is a metaphor for the
human condition and morality. For example, in this stanza humans are compared to
forgotten lyres. This comparison between humans and the forgotten lyres highlights
the perpetual human condition of change. It is showing that like the lyres when
humans are gone, they will be forgotten. Additionally, the various moods of the stanza
are created by the different sounds of the lyre, whose strings give a various response
to various blasts. Shelley is again pointing out that nothing is constant. In the third
stanza of the poem, Shelley shows that no matter what humans do there is an
inevitability of change and that they have no control over this change. According to
the Norton Anthology of English Literature, mutability reflects this notion as Shelley
undermines human importance within a world in which nothing is constant (751).
Shelley brings attention to the fact that human emotions and thoughts are always
changing. For example, Shelley notes that dreams have the power to poison our sleep
and a wandering thought pollutes the day, yet our thoughts and emotions also can
lead us to laugh or cast
The Dreaming Argument And The Evil Demon Argument
Descartes organised his ideas on knowledge and skepticism to establish two main
arguments, the dreaming argument and the evil demon argument. The dreaming
argument suggests that it is not possible to distinguish between having a waking
experience and dreaming an experience. Whereas, the evil demon argument suggests
that we are deceived in all areas of our experiences by an evil demon. This essay will
investigate the validity of the arguments and to what extent the conclusion of these
arguments is true. The soundness and the extent to which the premises are true will
also be explored. After evaluating these arguments it will be concluded that the
dreaming argumentis valid, but is not sound. Whereas, the evil demon argument is
both valid and sound.
In his First Meditation (Feinberg Shafer Landau, 2001) Descartes explored his ideas
regarding knowledge and skepticism, which led to him developing ideas based
around the certainty of his experiences. From this he developed his first argument:
the dreaming argument.
The dreaming argument was based upon the idea that both waking and sleeping
(dreaming) experiences can be very similar, and that distinguishing between the two
may not be possible. This led to Descartes doubting that waking experiences are
actually infact waking experiences and not dreams. Descartes developed this
argument and claimed that in order to be certain of any experiences, we have to be
certain that we are not dreaming. However, Descartes continued and

Ap Euro Calendar Dbq Essay
Explain the reasons for the adoption of a new calendar in revolutionary France and
analyze reactions to it in the period 1789 to 1806.
The adoption of the revolutionary calendar to replace the Gregorian calendar took
place on November 24, 1793 by the National Convention. This new calendar lasted
until Napoleon I abolished it in 1806. The new calendar was a adopted in
revolutionary France for many reasons including secular ideas and political reasons.
There were also many reactions to the change of calendar between 1789 and 1806
such a criticism.
There were many secular slanted ideas that were adopted into the new calendar

This shows that the new calendar was more secular because with the new calendar
people began to go to church less (Document 10). The new calendar in revolutionary
France, showed how France started to move towards a more secular world.
A lot of people agreed with the adoption of the new calendar by revolutionary France
for many reasons. Gilbert Romme, head of the calendar reform committee, believed
that the church calendar was born among ignorant people. He said Time opens a
new book for history, and it must use a new pen to record the annals of a regenerated
France. What Romme means by this is that since France is going through new times,
they need to change the calendar to fit it (Document 2). In Instruction Concerning the
Era of the Republic and the Division of the Year which was a decree of the National
Convention, it said that the new calendar will eliminate incoherence and
inexactitude. This means that with the new calendar people will be more exact and
orderly because of more work days. It also states that the new calendar will show the
character of our revolution (Document 5). In the letter to the National Convention
from the village of St. Quirin, it says how the people spend their day of rest. In the
letter it says that they honor the memory of the generals who have become martyrs
and they read aloud the republican accomplishments. The people of the
Racial Identity And Ethnic Identity
Paper One My racial identity and ethnic identity are tied to my everyday
experiences as an African American. I identify as African American or black
because it s my culture. I born by two black parents and grew up in a black
household. Although I was often told by my parents that I m black, I would say
that the term Black was given to me before I even entered the world. The term Black
was given to Africans by Europeans when they took us as slaves to the Americas.
Ever since then, the one drop rule applied to anyone with African heritage in the
United States. In What White Supremacist taught a Jewish Scholar About Identity by
Abby L. Ferber, she proves that raceis a social construct. While researching the

However, no matter how much Asian Americans assimilate into mainstream America
through economic gains, White Americans will still view Asian Americans as non
white.
My other identities directly impact my experience as being black because I deal
with heterosexism everyday. Furthermore, because I identity as a man and was
born male, I don t experience cissexism nor sexism. All of my identities are
important to me because it makes me who I am and includes me with others who
share my identity. For example, in Why Are All The Black Kids Sitting Together by
Beverly Daniel Tatum, she explains the reasoning behind why black students sit
together in the cafeteria. Tatum states that the reason why is because they all
understand each other experiences. Unlike people who don t share my identities, I
am able to relate to those that do and share my experiences. In the end, this creates a
safe place for me because I know my thoughts are valid and understood.
Although my identities create shared experiences, sometimes it conflicts with those
who don t share my identities. In some cases, I assume people view me as a
stereotypical black person because I m black. In Defining Racism by Tatum, she talks
about how people can internalize stereotypes because of racism. Growing in the

Analysis Of The Film Inception
On July 16, 2010, audiences across the world traveled to nearby theaters to watch the
unique, original film Inception. The film Inception was like no other, depicting a
dream like world where the city folded upon while the shadows of darkness cast over
it creating a mystique ambiance. This thrilling, original filmwas written by the
renowned director Christopher Nolan and produced by Warner Brothers Studios.
Nolan directed the film while working side by side with Wally Pfister, the director
of photography for the movie. Now as far as the film poster goes, Nolan trusted
Wally Pfister to create the image since he collaborated with Nolan for many of his
films, such as The Dark Night (Wally Pfister). Pfister made it his goal to design a film

Nolan wanted to make sure to encapsulate the idea of dreams and reality intertwining
with one another while still connecting emotionally with the audience.
While designing the image, Pfister s intention was to appeal to an audience of
individuals who enjoy the suspense inflicted with thrilling films. He targeted an
audience primarily of adults 18 years and up who belong to the middle to upper
class. On the cover of the poster, all the cast members are displayed in nice attire
fitted for those who are quite wealthy. Also, the environment the characters are
placed in appear to be in an upkept area filled with modern looking buildings
associated with areas that have money. Now looking at the poster, most of the cast
is represented by young adults all of whom range from their early 20 s to late 30 s.
While the cast is primarily white, two of the characters on the poster are different
race, one being Asian and the other African American so the film is not only targeted
to just one race. These aspects of the characters themselves target a mature audience.
From the visuals depicted in the film poster, the audience was aware that the film
belonged to the thriller genre. In the center of the film poster itself, all the characters

The Virgin Suicides Analysis
Through use of narration in The Virgin Suicides, Jeffrey Eugenides portrays the
issues that come with the blind idolization of women. The Virgin Suicides is narrated
by a group of teenage boys obsessed with the mysterious Lisbon sisters who live
across the street with their hyper strict parents. The narrators have a mystified and
enthralled tone as they study every aspect of the sisters lives, completely captivated
with every minute detail about them. Eugenides critiques the objectification and blind
idolization of women through building a narration that acts to develop a tone of
complete obsession in The Virgin Suicides. Eugenides presents women as deprived
of their individual voices, as a group of boys narrate the novel. The entire novel...

The novel is meant to be written as if the narrators are reading a case file rather
than fawning over girls they barely know. The narrators discuss the objects they
kept as if it is evidence, organizing it all as Exhibits #1 through #97, arranged in
five separate suitcases (Eugenides 240). Even though the novel is written
relatively analytically, the boys do not have a fair approach to the Lisbon sisters
as they revere them so highly. Displaying their findings as evidence gives the
narration a false sense of truth to it, which doesn t account for the strong bias
clearly present in the novel. The boys constantly attempt to analyze what they
collect as evidence. While studying Cecelia s diary after her successful suicide, the
narrators come to the conclusion that what we have here is a dreamer. Somebody
out of touch with reality. When she jumped, she probably thought she d fly
(Eugenides 38). In drawing conclusions such as these from what they have collected
about the Lisbon sisters, the narrators impose their own biases on the story. By
describing Cecelia in this way they seem to be romanticizing her and what she has
done. By saying that she probably thought she d fly , the narrators illegitimize what
Cecelia felt that propelled her to her eventual suicide. By the narrators idolizing the
sisters so highly, the story
The Interpersonal Relationship Between Sherlock Holmes

companion and friend Dr. John Watson. What is the relationship between Holmes
and Watson? Are they compatible or are their differences to great for them to

well the relationship works between the two of them. Do their own interests and
abilities get in the way? Does the time period in which they live factor into the
environment of their communication styles? There are several types of relational
messages found in the film. For instance if your compare them of who is more

Coulson, 2004). Sherlock is a part of the upper class while Watson is seen as a
middle class citizen while he is respected but he isn t on the same level as Holmes.
He is also respected for his work as a doctor and is known for being hard working.
Sherlock is portrayed as a troubled but brilliant detective who is often troubled and
socially awkward with people. He also deals with psychological noise with the fact
that he sees everything he call it both a gift and a curse at the same time. Holmes
and Watson both have different degrees of perceived self and presenting self. In
Watson case his is more concerned with his presenting self than Sherlock is (C. M.
Shaw R. Edwards, 1997). This can be seen in several cases in the movie when
Watson is going to meet his Fiancee s parents for teat he is both concerned and
worried with how they will perceive him. He is also concerned with how Mary ,
who is Watson Fiancee, will perceive Sherlock and his relationship with him. While
Sherlock isn t concerned with how the world around him perceives him nor does he
try to change or alter his appearance to suit others. In his case he has constructed
several different identities these can be seen in several scenes within the movies.
When Sherlock interacts with Watson he is friendly, open ,and engaged he has about
the same type of identity with Irene Adler though he is open and often flirtatious
though he is very careful about what information he shares

A Research Report On Distributed Information Systems...
Introduction This paper presents a research report on Distributed Information
Systems Development (DISD), the challenges in the process, the solutions and the
best methos . The aim of this research is to summarise theory considering what are
the complications in operating DISD projects, what are the most appropriate
techniques affected these complications, and how current patterns help these
techniques. Distributed Software Development (DSD) or Global Software
Development (GSD) is a phenomenon with significant interest from companies
worldwide where the stakeholders from different organizational cultures are engaged
in developing software. Within the globalization efforts currently pervading society,
the team members of the software project have become globally distributed.
Although, the DSD is technologically and organizationally complicated it provides a
number of issues to be operated by the information system development group. [1]
The distributed environments have become a standard for software development so
the coordinating of development teams has become one of the biggest issues faced by
the companies today. It is difficult to imagine any substantial development project
managed without an underlying software configuration management tool. Teams
located at different geographical areas, including offshore, cooperate each other using
communication technologies to develop interconnected software modules that are
integrated in shared project workspaces. The
Dracul Gothic Fiction In The Victorian Era
In the Victorian Era, Gothic fiction was an exceedingly popular literature genre
among numerous people because it was relatively new. Such elements as death,
gloom, suspense, mystery, and terror make up a Gothic novel in literature. The novel
Dracula, written by Bram Stoker, was the ideal Gothic fiction in the 19th century and
still is today because of its incorporation of vampires, castles, spine chilling murders,
and overpowering emotions which contribute to the Gothic atmosphere. Draculais set
in Transylvania, during the Victorian Era. The setting is extremely significant in
Dracula because it contributes abundantly to the Gothic atmosphere the novel
possesses. In this novel, the setting includes wild Transylvanian landscapes, dreary
buildings, secret hidden rooms, an asylum, and a graveyard. Such setting
contribute to the novel s gothic ambiance because they are places that usually tend
to reveal a perturbing feeling to those surrounding it. The most seen settings in the
novel Dracula is Dracula s castle, the graveyard by St. Mary s Church and Dr.
Seward s asylum which all contain gloomy features that contribute to the Gothic
atmosphere in Dracula. Dracula s castle is described as It contains all in all some
twenty acres, quite surrounded by the solid wall above mentioned. There are many
trees on it, which makes it in places gloomy, and there is a deep, dark looking pond
or small lake... (Stoker 22). The castle s abundant amount of trees surrounding the

What Are The Articles Of Confederation Related To The...
It is incredible how just one document can change the future of a country and its
people. On the year of 1787 fifty five delegates attended the constitutional convention
to see how they can potentially amend the Articles of Confederation. Although it was
their initial idea to amend the articles, instead they ended up creating the Constitution
of the United States, which states and grants the rights of the people and the rights
that the government has. This is potentially the most essential document that the
United States has, because it protects the government from having an extreme amount
of power, to the point where they can harm, us, the people. Although the constitution
separates powers in the government, doesn t mean that the country and the states
individually have their own sets of laws and power. The government has to distinct
compound powers, one is powers given to the states, and the other is power given

The research is demonstrating the use of memory strategy in an educational setting;
this study examines the use of chunking on telephone numbers by students on
campus. There were a total of 40 students that participated, and they were split into
two groups consisting of 20 students per group. The control group used chunking as
their memory strategy for memorizing a list of 10 telephone numbers. In contrast, the

In another study, that involves the uses of memory strategies, students had to

The students memorized the list of vocabulary words by dividing them into groups of
similar characteristics (Anderson, J. R., amp; Bower, G. H. 1974). For the students
that has used a mnemonic strategy, they have remembered more words than students
that remembered the list in a randomly fashion. The results have shown that people

more items.
In each of the studies, the participants have greater results in retaining more
information by using certain strategies to guide them through the task. Their ability
to memorize things has improved by the use of repetition and categorizing the list
into a meaningful structure. Each person has their own way of interpreting

Essay on Moral Dilemma
Moral Dilemma
Everyday we are tested as individuals to make the right choice. How we view
ourselves as individuals and how others view us are directly correlated to our
moral decision making. But morals are somewhat misleading. What might be a
wrong decision for one person might be a solution to another. So how do we define
morals? Do we follow Gods moral rules because to do so would increase out
likelihood of obtaining salvation in the afterlife? Or is it simpler than that. Is God
going to deny our entrance into heaven because we have run a stop sign here and
there? No. I believe our moral values are much simpler than that. I believe that our
moral decision making comes from our upbringing of what is right or wrong. Our

It was about 13 degrees out and the sun had just started to peek over the mountains
behind our house. It was a magnificent morning. It was one of those crisp, cold
mornings with no wind and I could hear for miles and miles. I remember hearing
my neighbor s dog, Orvis, barking two miles away. I kept walking for about a
quarter mile until I came upon a field that was always a hot spot for deer in the
morning. It was an exciting feeling to be out in the woods with the deer, yet at the
same time, a terrifying feeling. Was I going to fail yet another year of not bagging

needed to get a deer in the worst way.
As the morning wore on I began to get anxious and fidgety feeling that no deer

I recognized two deer grazing peacefully in the middle of the field. I quickly pulled

that I had forgotten to readjust the focus on my scope. As I did, the deer saw me

managed to get my scope in focus in time to see that there was a buck and a doe.
My chance had finally come. I was going to get my first Vermont buck. I
immediately stood up from my stand and jogged over to where they had entered the
woods. Once in the woods, I evaluated the surroundings and had a good
The Nature Of The Polar Bear
The scientific name for the polar bear is Ursus maritimus. However, it has many
other names as well, such as sea bear, ice bear, lord of the Arctic, and old man in
the fur cloak. Despite all the different names, one thing is for sure, the polar bear s
body has been constructed perfectly to deal with the seasonal shifts in the Arctic.
The fur of a polar bear acts as a dense insulator, preventing almost all heat loss. In
fact, adult males can overheat from running. The fur is transparent with a hollow
core that scatters and reflects visible light, making it appear white, just like what
happens with snow and ice. The skin of a polar bear is black, and it covers up a layer
of fat that can be up to 4.49 inches thick. This thick layer of fat helps keep the polar
bear warm in the water, since wet fur acts as a poor insulator. The polar bear s
small round ears and short, compact tail also help conserve heat. Their large paws,
approximately 11.81 inches across, are covered with papillae which help from
slipping on ice. To complete the challenge of crossing thin ice, the polar bear
extends its legs far apart while lowering its body to distribute its weight evenly. This
action helps it survive on its home range of sea ice, which can be quite large,
expanding far greater than any other species of bear.
A polar bear s home range depends on both habitat quality and prey availability.
Polar bears mainly depend on seals for their high fat content and can eat 100 pounds
of blubber
Captives And Voyagers Analysis
In Captives and Voyagers, Alexander X. Byrd argues that the three movements of
black migrants, whether free or enslaved, to Sierra Leone and Jamaica comprised of a
cultural and social transformation unique to black migrant society, catalyzed not only
by the prime transatlantic journeys of each group, but also by their preceding multi
leveled passages leading up to their voyage and settlement. Byrd further exemplifies
the notion that the African diaspora in black migration to Sierra Leone and Jamaica
inescapably intertwined with the British empire. The violent, arduous, and
dehumanizing passage of captives from the hinterland to the Biafran littoral
alienated the slaves from their former culture and home. Prevalent in the interior,
deracination deprived the enslaved of their own identities which led, more often
than not, to the formation of kinship between captives; ties of which were rooted
in the common struggle of enslavement. Byrd alludes to these ties by stating that
captives were in a state of marginality, their old senses of place, self, and
identification enfeebled and new ones yet to be fully determined (Byrd 26). Such
need for a unique identification of a marginalized group of people led to many
identifying as Igbo. Byrd goes on to claim that life on the ship further fueled the
process of becoming Igbo. In his own words, the slave ship was a forcing house of
social change (Byrd 56). The deprivation, violence, morbidity, and high mortality
rates experienced in
George Berkeley Essay
George Berkeley was an Irish philosopher. His philosophical beliefs were centered
on one main belief, the belief that perception is the basis for existence. In doing so,
he rejected the notion of a material world in favor of an immaterial world.
Berkeley felt that all we really know about an object we learn from our perception of
that object. He recognized that in the materialist s view the real object is independent
of any perceiver s perception. The pen on my desk would exist, whether or not I was
in the room to see it or have a sensory experience of it in some way. Berkeley
rejected this idea. He realized that knowledge is limited to perception. In this
realization, he postulated that everything we know we learned through ... Show more

What, then, happens to an object when no one can perceive it anymore? If no one
sees the tree and no one has a sensory experience of it, does it cease to exist? This
idea suggests that objects pop in and out of reality when not being perceived by any
human perceiver. Berkeley argues from an immaterialist standpoint and says that
objects do not act in such a manner. He tries to save his theory by saying that the
tree does in fact exist because God is the continuous perceiver of all things and
therefore God always perceives the tree.
This is an illegitimate appeal to save his philosophy. By saving his theory in this
manner he shoots himself in the foot. ; If God cannot be perceived, and if to be is to
be perceived, then God cannot possibly exist. Although the existence of God can be
inferred through the classical ontological argument, doing so scuttles his immaterial
world. If one can have knowledge through inference, then one can infer the existence
of a material world.
Berkeley s answer to the existence of the tree in the quad is not convincing because
his argument is circular. If something must be perceived in
Early Childhood Education
Introduction This research report presents an analysis of and conclusions drawn
from the experiences and perspectives of two educators that work in the early
childhood setting. The main objective is to identify key elements and issues in
relation to the families, diversity and difference. In particular how an early
childhood educator implements, different approaches to honour culture and diversity,
and to advocate for social justice in an early childhood settings. As such, it allows an
insight into the important role that families and their background plays in the
everyday lives of the children and educators within early childhood settings. In today

educators experiences and personal beliefs in relation to diversity and difference
with the families and children in their centres.(As seen in Appendix 1 2). Key
aspects and issues in relation to families, diversity and difference were considered
essential data to be analysed for this research report. Results and Discussion There is
a significant importance placed on educators abilities to understand and implement
diversity within educational centres, both Mary and Julie seem to have an in depth
understanding of what diversity is and why it is so essential in early childhood
settings. Mary and Julie share a common perspective about diversity established by
their words such as individual, different, recognise, respect, value and promote.

Positive And Negative Outcomes Of Illegal Immigrants
There is lots of skepticism when it comes to immigrants and how they contribute
to a society. A lot of people just assume that illegal immigrants are bad for one s
society. But really, especially for people in the U.S., illegal immigrants pay taxes
just like us citizens, they still pay for health insurance, and they also have savings
and checking accounts. Some illegal immigrants, (non US citizens) even get
accepted to colleges, even the ones in Wisconsin. Although there are positive and
negative outcomes regarding illegal immigrants, I will be discussing the economic
implications, and how it affects Wisconsin as a state for the good or for the bad.
There are a number of reasons why Illegal Immigrants come to Wisconsin. Some

Us Wisconsinites have tons of illegal immigrants living in our state. According to a
study that fox news reported, Wisconsin is home to an estimated 85,000 illegal
immigrants, people who immigrated illegally accounted for 1.5 percent of Wisconsin
s population in 2012, less than the national average of 3.5 percent. Even our current
governor in Wisconsin, Scott Walker, did not like the fact that we had illegal
immigrants in Wisconsin. He argues that we put incredible amounts of money into
security in airports, and waterways, so we should actually start protecting our
borders. Although our governor obviously does not like the fact that we have illegal
immigrants in Wisconsin, many economists say that illegal immigrants don t have
too much of an economic impact.
According to Adam Davidson in his article, he states that when average over the
whole economy, the affect is a small net positive . With all of this information, it is
safe to say that the economic impact of illegal immigration in Wisconsin is far
smaller than other trends in this economy such as increasing the use of automation in
manufacturing. I was quite surprised to find out that most Illegal immigrants actually
do pay taxes, I always thought you would need a social security number or something
but I was very wrong. I found that most undocumented immigrants receive benefits,
pay taxes, and even use government services. I actually
Tobacco Influences On Tobacco
Tobacco was grown by American Indians. It is a green plant that grows in a warm
climate. After, it is picked, it is dried, grounded up, and used in different ways.
American Indians smoked tobacco through a pipe for special religious and medical
purposes. Tobacco was the first crop grown for money (Kunitza S.J., 2016). Nicotine
is a chemical in tobaccoproducts. The nicotine in tobacco is what makes the product
a drug. Individuals began to use small amounts of tobacco. Some individual chewed
it. Others smoked it occasionally in a pipe, or they hand rolled a cigarette or cigar
(Kunitza, S. J., 2016). The article Historical Influences on Contemporary Tobacco
Use by Northern Plains and Southwestern American Indians states that By the early
20th century roll your own cigarettes had become widely available, with Bull Durham
being the most popular brand (Kunitza, S. J., 2016).Second hand smoke not only
causes serious health problems to the smoker, but it also affects others exposed to it.
Second hand smoke is when smoke exhales into the air and it can be inhaled by
others. The definition of harmful from the Merriam Webster dictionary states that
harmful is something that is causing damage or likely to cause harm (The Merriam
Webster Dictionary, 2004). Therefore it is important to protect your body from
harmful items. Tobacco smoke is a harmful substance that individual should not put

2) What are the key success factors in the casual dining portion of the restaurant
industry?
Casual dining has become the biggest trend in the restaurant industry.
Customers no longer visit restaurants just to eat. They want to invest in time shares
of virtual vacation; they long for a place to rest and eat without worry. Restaurants
that provide an express holiday from everyday commotion have become the meeting
place for families, couples, business meetings and parties. The idea is simple: offer
quality food, an entertaining atmosphere, and an escape from the outer world. Fitting
your restaurant to your customer s life styles is the key to casual dining success.
Today s restaurant patrons expect great food and top quality service from the
restaurants they visit. In addition to this, they long for an experience, a type of
transportation from the hustle and bustle of the real world. At the end of the night,
the check should be the souvenir of an exciting excursion. In America s fast paced
society, people treasure quality time with family and friends as priceless. Offering the
public a dining experience ensures success. This depends on all aspects of the
restaurant: food, environment, service, and entertainment. 3) Do a SWOT analysis of

Discipline and Punish the Birth of Prsions
Discipline and Punish the Birth of Prisons goes beyond the walls of the prison
system. Foucault gives a detailed description of the transition of discipline and
punishment beginning in the seventeenth century. Foucault begins with insight into
the tortures forms of punishment common in the seventeenth century. The torture
involved prisoners being placed on a scaffold while holding a two pound torch of
burning wax. There the flesh would be torn from their body with hot pincers before
their bodies were quartered by four horses attached to each limb. The seventeenth
century was a period of time when public executions were common place and
physical torture was the primary means used to force confessions from the accused.
The seventeenth century torture period was based on the premise that the display of
public torture and public executions would lead to a level of fear that would detour
others from committing crimes. The gruesome display was to be so feared that no
one would dare want to endure this experience first hand. Torture was an affective
coercive tool getting the accused to confess to a crime. If the accused was able to
withstand the torture placed upon him, he could be considered innocent of the crime
of which he was accused. Actual guilt or innocence was not relevant as a guilty man
could sometimes withstand higher levels of torture without confessing while
innocent men would sometimes confess to crimes that they did not commit to put an
end to their

What Are The 8 Features Of Crime
8 Features of Crime
There are eight essential factors that are found every crime and therefore make up the
legal concept as to what crime is. The eight concepts are actus reus, mens rea,
concurrence, causation, harm, legality, necessary attendant circumstances, and
punishment. Actus reus means guilty act, or any act that is in violation of the law.
This term describes the physical not the mental act of committing a crime.Omission to
act is also represented under this act, for example child neglect where a parent or
guardian does not fulfill their duties that are afforded to a child. Another part to
this is also threatening to act which can be criminal as well. If you tell someone
that you re going to murder them can get one into trouble because threats,
especially those against the president, are taken very seriously.Attempted murder
is also illegal even if it is not accomplished if one is caught in the act or of doing
the act then they can be arrested. Conspiring to commit an illegal act and that can
be proven is illegal as well. One example is if you were to have this elaborate plan
to rob a very prominent bank and you are communicating with people and making
plans of the building then that is enough to get you in trouble for conspiring. These
are the concepts that fall under actus reus . The next idea of crime is mens rea which
is kind of like partner to actus rea. Except mens rea is the state of mind that
accompanies a criminal act. There are four types of mens

Atlantic Structure Of The Triangular Trade
At the point when the vessel arrived in the Americas, generally some spot in the
Caribbean, the slaves were purged, and sold to be used as specialists on significant
farms. The money the water crafts got from slaves was used to purchase the agrarian
things that the slaves were truly assembling; things like tobacco, molasses, and sugar.
Those unrefined things from the Americas were sent to Europe, the third leg of the
triangular trade, where Europeans arranged the rough supplies and made finished
things. This entire voyage took around twelve weeks.

A Critical Analysis Of Little Shop Of Horrors
Not everyone loves musicals as much as others, but most people can recognize
when someone says FEED ME or DON T FEED THE PLANTS . The well known
musical Little Shop of Horrors took over the Dubois Little Theater this December
under the direction of Ms. Shannon McNutt. Little Shop of Horrors is a fun, musical
about a young botanical genius, Seymour Krelborn, his boss, and future foster father,
Mr. Mushnik, and the young, dramatic and attractive Audrey. Seymour was a shy
and sheltered man until he found a strange and interesting plant, which he named
Audrey Two after his one true love, Audrey. The musical follows Seymour as he
tries to get his sentient, bloodthirsty plant to grow so he can reap the benefits, but
his morals quickly catch up with him as he begins to lose everything that matters. I
believe that this show was worthwhile to see and be part of. While watching Little
Shop of Horrorsyou can tell that it has comedic elements, but it also is somewhat
dark and disturbing to watch Seymour s guilt and grief consume him. It is clearly a
dark comedy. This is made clear through many different aspects of the writing. The
show deals with murder, death, and world domination, but the characters are
always sure to throw in a funny line or stop for a quick song. Though I enjoyed
being part of this production, I don t think it has a universal appeal by any means.
During one of the shows, a young girl was watching Seymour feed fake body parts
to the plant at the end of act
My View Of Life After Death
Growing up with a very devout, spiritual parent, I was taught from very early on
that God was all knowing. I was also taught that humans have the freedom to make
their own choices about their lives and that is what determines whether one will
ascend to Heaven or descend into Hell. Whether someone choses to accept Christ
as their Lord and Savior is what will determine your life after death. I accepted this
as truth for a very long time, as I had no exposure to different views. I would argue
with my LDS peers on the meaning of Heaven and Hell and their nonbelief, and I
would trust everything I was taught without much question. In college, things
changed. I still believe in God, but differently. I have struggled with my own beliefs
for a while now, because everything I have known is being, or has been challenged
by discussions in my classes. I cannot imagine a life without my relationship with
God, but I also have a lot of questions, that my mother would balk at. In this paper I
aim to answer these questions, after critically explaining and analyzing Augustine s
views on free will. The main focus of the paper will be my own beliefs and my own
conclusions, and thoughts on how humans can be both predetermined and have
free will. I aim to show my understanding on Augustine and also provide a clear and
concise explanation of how and why I believe the way I do. The God of the
Christian bible is said to be omniscient, or all knowing, and if one is taught this from
a young age,

Chicago Chinatown
The motivations for the Chinese to come to the United States are similar to most
immigrants. These motivations are what most people call The American Dream.
These could be looking for a better life, having a better job, running away from
political issues. However, for Chinese these American dreams were not too easy to
achieve at first compared to other immigrants. Chinese suffered a lot more obstacles
and discriminations because they are relatively small and easy to be targeted on.
Even more the legal system passed a law in 1963 forbidding Chinese to testify
against white men in court. This anti Chinese action was most critical in the Pacific

There were a couple of reasons. One of the reasons was the city development and
extension of the McCormick Place impacted on the planning design of the square as
well as the transportation service availability. The other reason was because of
environmental issue. The Chinatown Square was detected with toxins, which cost
$400,000 and a long period of time to cleanup. Even though the Chinatown Square
went through a lot of difficulties, the city of Chicago showed their support of the
project by contributing $7.2 million and offered to build needed streets, sewers and
sidewalks. (Chicago Chinatown, 1996)1
As soon as the project of Chinatown Square started, another issue arose. That is, the
lack of coordination of the present business restaurants owners. Chinatown had been
heavily depended on restaurants business, which the owners competed by offering
lower prices to attract customers. As a result, it was hard to convince these
businessmen to compromise and coordinated with the project of Chinatown Square.
Therefore, the construction of the Chinatown Parking Lot was an instructive
procedure to unite these businessmen to cooperate. The result turned out to be very
successful, and it accomplished the goal of Chinatown community which joined

Invasive Types Of Invasive Species
Kho, Park What is an invasive species? Invasive species are plants, animal, fungi
and bacteria that are non native to the ecosystem around it. There are three
different category of invasive species. The three are category are invasive animal
species, invasive fungus species, and last invasive plant species. You can classify
invasive plant by seeing if it is from the region or area.Well, an invasive plant has
the ability to thrive and spread aggressively outside its natural range. This means
that they are able to adapt to it surrounding very easily. A naturally aggressive plant
may be especially invasive when it is introduced to a new habitat. Some invasive
plants are worse than others. For example, like the witchweed, or even tall grass.
When invasive plants like ivy or clematis dominate the groundcover, there is very
little root structure to bind the soils. That s why large areas dominated by invasive
plants are more likely to erode during flood events than areas with a diverse
understory of trees and shrubs, which provide more root structure diversity. Invasive
Plants can cause declines in native plants and animal numbers
(www.portlandoregon.gov). For example, if a strong animal came in, such as a lion
and ate most of the weakest living things there are, then it can have a huge affect on
the other kinds of living animals around it this has the same effect with plants. For
example, the kudzu plant
The Decrease Of Forest Cover And Forest Resources
Introduction
Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries of the world with a
population more than 150 million. The rate of population increase is decreasing in
Bangladesh but still it is high enough to create immense pressure on different sectors
like agriculture, forestry, economy etc. To fulfill the demand of increasing population
more agricultural lands, buildup areas, settlements, roads and highways are necessary.
These development activities will definitely corroborate the decrease of forest cover
and forest resources in Bangladesh. It is evident that global climate is changing and
Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world due to climate
change. In the near future temperature will increase, sea level will rise, and
incessant rainfall events will increase in a whole there will be an accentuation of
extreme events. These extreme events will affect the forest resources and
biodiversity of Bangladesh. For example only 0.5 meter sea level rise will inundate
the whole Sundarbans. So for ensuring habitat and sustainable environment for the
present and future generations of the country amelioration of forest and forest
recourses, conservation and identification of biodiversity and increase of forest cover
up to idea limit are necessary. Forest Resources in Bangladesh

Reality In The Odyssey
In focusing on heroes, it is necessary to indulge in a kind of narcissistic fantasy.
Reality is complicated. In most circumstances, significant actions occur not because
a single, heroic figure overcomes all adversity, but rather through more mundane,
less dramatic decisions made by a number of people with various individual
motivations. But for the sake of a good story, these realities are condensed into a
narrative of heroes and gods who single handedly fulfill their journey. This pattern of
narrative was defined by Homer whose tales of heroes and gods exemplify the
glorification of the individual, often at the expense of those around them. This
storytelling device persists into modern culture: our most popular stories are those of
individual... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

finds a smaller, it redefines it as smallest, then once it is finished comparing makes
a swap. It then repeats the process from the 2nd index, and once again compares it
to every single proceeding element. It repeats this until the list is sorted. It even does
this even if there is no sorting to be done, hence, always the same order of
The Rise Of The Late Nineteenth Century And Early...
The late nineteenth century and early twentieth century was a time of strife in
Vietnam. Transitioning from an independent to a colonized country caused the
Vietnamese to resent their home land. With the rise of the soviet and their system of
communism, the weak Vietnam was bound to be penetrated by the dominating
power. With internal disunity and rebellions due to a pro catholic president in a
Buddhist dominant society, the defense of the country was marred. Since defense
was down, take overs had begun and caused the beginning of a war that was
mistakenly drawn out for over ten years which also caused the deaths and wounds of
over millions of men. The truth of the war compared to the war that was envisioned,
brought disappointment to the main power leading the frail South Vietnamese, the
United States. The involvement of such a pugnacious country brought anguish to the
poor region. With the waste of lives, time, and money, U.S involvement was one of
the most unnecessary occurrences to the history of both the United States and
Vietnam. One of the most prominent foundation of the fear was the speech given by
Eisenhower in 1954. Labeled the domino theory, Eisenhower proposed the theory in
concern to communism in Indochina. The theory soon became the justification for
many presidents to perform ill advised plans. The involvement of the United States in
the Vietnam War was ultimately a mistake. 4 | Page Introduction A war that everyone

Importance Of Retrofitting And Its Effects On The Forces...
1.INTRODUCTION
1.1 Definition
Retrofitting is the process of modifying something after it has been manufactured.
Preparing a structure in scientific manner to withstand the forces of natural hazards.
Up gradation of existing building for increasing the resistance against natural hazards.
1.2 Repair, Restoration, Retrofitting
A. Repairs
Actions taken for patching up superficial defects
Include cosmetic works only
B. Retrofit
To outfit building, with newly developed or previously unavailable parts or equipment
C. Rehabilitation
It is the act of restoring something to its original state
1.3 Necessity of Retrofitting
The retrofitting becomes necessary to increase the performance of structures
including those encountered loss of strength due to deterioration or which have
crossed their expected life. The success of retrofitting depends on the actual cause and
the measures adopted to prevent its further deterioration. The process involves repair,
retrofit, renovation and even part reconstruction
.
Steel elements in the form of plates, angles, I sections along with anchor bolts
/ could be used with proficiency for retrofitting of a damaged RCC building. This
paper has elaborated in detail different aspects of cracks developed in concrete
structures with remedial retrofitting measures along with sketches and calculation
methods. Some generic examples of retrofitting methodologies applicable to Global
and / or Local failures in concrete have been cited in this
Ian Mcewan s Use Of Symbolism In Atonement
In the novel Atonement, every character elicits either a positive or negative
response from the reader. Ian McEwan s character Robbie Turner typically elicits
more of a positive and sympathetic response because people pitied him for his
tragic experiences. He never actually did anything harmful to anyone else, despite
what had been said; therefore, the readers always had faith that Robbie would
somehow be happy again. McEwan created Robbie with a strong personality that
allowed him to have hope and still love Cecilia, despite being unfairly accused and
imprisoned for someone else s actions. His experiences and outlook on life and love
can be easily compared to Jesus, which can contribute to the theme because both men
overcame their trials.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the book, he had liberal, essentially Christian, politics. Robbie could easily be
compared to a Christ like figure. He was metaphorically crucified and cast out
when the accusations were said, like Jesus. The Dunkirk beach scene is definitely
not irrelevant in any sense of the word. This is essentially the Passion of Robbie.
Clearly he cannot have a pierced side or Crown of Thorns like Jesus, but he does
rise from the dead in the penultimate scene. McEwan used the biblical symbolism to
show how Robbie, like Jesus, was a victim of others
Jimmy Lambatos Quiznos Lack Of Success
According to Huffington Post, there are few companies that have already closed
or that are on the brink of failing. Out of the list of 10 I chose Quiznos Subs.
Quiznos is a sandwich chain that was founded in 1981 by Jimmy Lambatos. This
now widely spread chain has close several locations all over the country. According
to Huffington Post , Once every other sandwich chain started toasting their
sandwiches, Quiznos just wasn t that unique anymore. Even worse, for a very long
time, Quiznos kept its prices well above Subway s, which likely cost them with
customers during the recession. In the midst of success, competitors began having
more affordable prices and better promotions. This all begin the downfall of Quiznos
Subs causing them to lose
Mayas And Aztecs Comparison Essay
The Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas are all big groups of people that used have roamed
the lands of earth. They all have a specific location, time period, capital, economy,
religion, social system, government and technology. First we are going to start with
the 3 group s location, time periods, and the capitals. The Maya s location is in
southern Mexico. For example; Belize,
Guatemala, Honduras, and El. They like to live in rainforest and dry lowlands.
There cities have many buildings like house made out of jade and hay. The Aztecs
live in Mexico too. They live in an area of harsh deserts, high mountains, and
swampy lakes. They thought that their area was a good natural defense. The soil
there was very useful because it was very easy to grow with. They even added land
with chinampas. Now for the Incas. They lived in the west part of South America.
Also, they were located in the Andes mountains. The main area was Peru. Now it s
time for the time periods. For the Mayas, there time period was ... Show more content

Each tribe had a economy full of farming and trading. All tribes farmed lots of
maize (corn), squash, and corn. They all also loved cuaco beans for making
chocolate, it was kind of a currency too! Some differences are how the Mayans
loved carving and trading jade the most. Also the Incas eat a lot of duck, fish,
tomatoes, peppers, beans, and corn, while the others had a smaller sort of foods to
eat. Mostly the Aztecs used the chimpas to add extra land to farm and build more.
Many tools were made and traded but mostly the Aztecs made stones out of
obsidian. Sometimes the Mayans would have special foods for special ceremonies.
Also, mostly the Mayans and Aztecs would have runners to carry the trades or
letters. The trades or letters would be switched between different runners. These
tribes have some very interesting ways of life. What do you think, would you like to
live and be apart of these tribes of
A Brief Note On The Problem Of Co2 Pollution
I think that the problem is that CO2 pollution because it is the highest it has been
for hundreds of years. This world is going to be inherited by us so we need to keep
it clean. Also the air is becoming more and more toxic as we reach higher and
higher levels of CO2. My solution is a two part plan. Part one of two is instituting
a carbon fee like Microsoft has created to become carbon neutral these funds can be
pulled from by families in need of financial aid for this tax to get less energy
consuming more efficient models. Part two of two is using percentages of the tax to
do research on nano bots that take carbon dioxidefrom the atmosphere, and buying
clean energies like wind power and solar panels.
How I am connected.
My connection to this is through my friends and family because the world is being
affected by carbon dioxide more than before with ocean acidification and cities
declared unfit for life. This is the world me and my friends will inherit and I don t
want it to be some sort of poorly cared for world but a clean well cared for world.
The CO2 emissions are becoming major things in the US and China as they pollute
millions of tonnes a year of carbon dioxide. The connection I have to this came up
when I heard how bad our air was getting a couple years ago.
I haven t really gotten into this until now but that was a major help in my research
because I already had the basics down for carbon dioxide pollution. Although I had
no connections before I now realize that

  • 2. Nature Of The Human Condition In Mutability, By Percy Shelley Percy Shelley, a prominent and influential poet of the Romantic era, wrote many poems that describe the nature of the human condition. Similar to other Romantic poets, Shelley found tranquility and peace in nature, he was captivated by clouds, mists, rivers, seas. In his poems, Shelley uses these natural elements to discuss truths about the human condition. Specifically, in his poem Mutability Shelley shows the ever changing fragility and unpredictability of the human condition. The poem starts by allowing the reader and Shelley to become the subjects of the poem by using the subject pronoun we. According to the Norton Anthology of English Literature, this adaptation of the traditional Lyric poem draws specific attention to Shelley s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the second stanza, Shelley describes the ever changing frailty of human existence. In lines, five through nine humans are described as forgotten lyres, whose dissonant strings/ Give various response to each varying blast, / To whose frail frame no second motion brings/ One mood or modulation like the last. This is a metaphor for the human condition and morality. For example, in this stanza humans are compared to forgotten lyres. This comparison between humans and the forgotten lyres highlights the perpetual human condition of change. It is showing that like the lyres when humans are gone, they will be forgotten. Additionally, the various moods of the stanza are created by the different sounds of the lyre, whose strings give a various response to various blasts. Shelley is again pointing out that nothing is constant. In the third stanza of the poem, Shelley shows that no matter what humans do there is an inevitability of change and that they have no control over this change. According to the Norton Anthology of English Literature, mutability reflects this notion as Shelley undermines human importance within a world in which nothing is constant (751). Shelley brings attention to the fact that human emotions and thoughts are always changing. For example, Shelley notes that dreams have the power to poison our sleep and a wandering thought pollutes the day, yet our thoughts and emotions also can lead us to laugh or cast
  • 3. The Dreaming Argument And The Evil Demon Argument Descartes organised his ideas on knowledge and skepticism to establish two main arguments, the dreaming argument and the evil demon argument. The dreaming argument suggests that it is not possible to distinguish between having a waking experience and dreaming an experience. Whereas, the evil demon argument suggests that we are deceived in all areas of our experiences by an evil demon. This essay will investigate the validity of the arguments and to what extent the conclusion of these arguments is true. The soundness and the extent to which the premises are true will also be explored. After evaluating these arguments it will be concluded that the dreaming argumentis valid, but is not sound. Whereas, the evil demon argument is both valid and sound. In his First Meditation (Feinberg Shafer Landau, 2001) Descartes explored his ideas regarding knowledge and skepticism, which led to him developing ideas based around the certainty of his experiences. From this he developed his first argument: the dreaming argument. The dreaming argument was based upon the idea that both waking and sleeping (dreaming) experiences can be very similar, and that distinguishing between the two may not be possible. This led to Descartes doubting that waking experiences are actually infact waking experiences and not dreams. Descartes developed this argument and claimed that in order to be certain of any experiences, we have to be certain that we are not dreaming. However, Descartes continued and

The new calendar in revolutionary France, showed how France started to move towards a more secular world. A lot of people agreed with the adoption of the new calendar by revolutionary France for many reasons. Gilbert Romme, head of the calendar reform committee, believed that the church calendar was born among ignorant people. He said Time opens a new book for history, and it must use a new pen to record the annals of a regenerated France. What Romme means by this is that since France is going through new times, they need to change the calendar to fit it (Document 2). In Instruction Concerning the Era of the Republic and the Division of the Year which was a decree of the National Convention, it said that the new calendar will eliminate incoherence and inexactitude. This means that with the new calendar people will be more exact and orderly because of more work days. It also states that the new calendar will show the character of our revolution (Document 5). In the letter to the National Convention from the village of St. Quirin, it says how the people spend their day of rest. In the letter it says that they honor the memory of the generals who have become martyrs and they read aloud the republican accomplishments. The people of the

I identify as African American or black because it s my culture. I born by two black parents and grew up in a black household. Although I was often told by my parents that I m black, I would say that the term Black was given to me before I even entered the world. The term Black was given to Africans by Europeans when they took us as slaves to the Americas. Ever since then, the one drop rule applied to anyone with African heritage in the United States. My other identities directly impact my experience as being black because I deal with heterosexism everyday. All of my identities are important to me because it makes me who I am and includes me with others who share my identity. For example, in Why Are All The Black Kids Sitting Together by Beverly Daniel Tatum, she explains the reasoning behind why black students sit together in the cafeteria. Tatum states that the reason why is because they all understand each other experiences. Unlike people who don t share my identities, I am able to relate to those that do and share my experiences. In the end, this creates a safe place for me because I know my thoughts are valid and understood. Although my identities create shared experiences, sometimes it conflicts with those who don t share my identities. In some cases, I assume people view me as a stereotypical black person because I m black. In Defining Racism by Tatum, she talks about how people can internalize stereotypes because of racism. The Virgin Suicides is narrated by a group of teenage boys obsessed with the mysterious Lisbon sisters who live across the street with their hyper strict parents. The narrators have a mystified and enthralled tone as they study every aspect of the sisters lives, completely captivated with every minute detail about them. The novel is meant to be written as if the narrators are reading a case file rather than fawning over girls they barely know. The narrators discuss the objects they kept as if it is evidence, organizing it all as Exhibits #1 through #97, arranged in five separate suitcases (Eugenides 240). Even though the novel is written relatively analytically, the boys do not have a fair approach to the Lisbon sisters as they revere them so highly. Displaying their findings as evidence gives the narration a false sense of truth to it, which doesn t account for the strong bias clearly present in the novel. The boys constantly attempt to analyze what they collect as evidence. While studying Cecelia s diary after her successful suicide, the narrators come to the conclusion that what we have here is a dreamer. Somebody out of touch with reality. When she jumped, she probably thought she d fly (Eugenides 38). In drawing conclusions such as these from what they have collected about the Lisbon sisters, the narrators impose their own biases on the story. By describing Cecelia in this way they seem to be romanticizing her and what she has done. By saying that she probably thought she d fly , the narrators illegitimize what Cecelia felt that propelled her to her eventual suicide. By the narrators idolizing the sisters so highly, the story

He also deals with psychological noise with the fact that he sees everything he call it both a gift and a curse at the same time. Holmes and Watson both have different degrees of perceived self and presenting self. In Watson case his is more concerned with his presenting self than Sherlock is (C. M. Shaw R. Edwards, 1997). This can be seen in several cases in the movie when Watson is going to meet his Fiancee s parents for teat he is both concerned and worried with how they will perceive him. He is also concerned with how Mary , who is Watson Fiancee, will perceive Sherlock and his relationship with him. While Sherlock isn t concerned with how the world around him perceives him nor does he try to change or alter his appearance to suit others. In his case he has constructed several different identities these can be seen in several scenes within the movies. When Sherlock interacts with Watson he is friendly, open ,and engaged he has about the same type of identity with Irene Adler though he is open and often flirtatious though he is very careful about what information he shares

The aim of this research is to summarise theory considering what are the complications in operating DISD projects, what are the most appropriate techniques affected these complications, and how current patterns help these techniques. Distributed Software Development (DSD) or Global Software Development (GSD) is a phenomenon with significant interest from companies worldwide where the stakeholders from different organizational cultures are engaged in developing software. Within the globalization efforts currently pervading society, the team members of the software project have become globally distributed. Although, the DSD is technologically and organizationally complicated it provides a number of issues to be operated by the information system development group. [1] The distributed environments have become a standard for software development so the coordinating of development teams has become one of the biggest issues faced by the companies today. It is difficult to imagine any substantial development project managed without an underlying software configuration management tool. Teams located at different geographical areas, including offshore, cooperate each other using communication technologies to develop interconnected software modules that are integrated in shared project workspaces. On the year of 1787 fifty five delegates attended the constitutional convention to see how they can potentially amend the Articles of Confederation. Although it was their initial idea to amend the articles, instead they ended up creating the Constitution of the United States, which states and grants the rights of the people and the rights that the government has. This is potentially the most essential document that the United States has, because it protects the government from having an extreme amount of power, to the point where they can harm, us, the people. Although the constitution separates powers in the government, doesn t mean that the country and the states individually have their own sets of laws and power. I kept walking for about a quarter mile until I came upon a field that was always a hot spot for deer in the morning. It was an exciting feeling to be out in the woods with the deer, yet at the same time, a terrifying feeling. Was I going to fail yet another year of not bagging my buck? I was anxious as to what my family and friends would think of me. I needed to get a deer in the worst way. As the morning wore on I began to get anxious and fidgety feeling that no deer were going to come. As I was contemplating whether to leave my stand in the field, I recognized two deer grazing peacefully in the middle of the field. I quickly pulled up and looked through my scope and saw nothing but green fuzz. I was so nervous that I had forgotten to readjust the focus on my scope. As I did, the deer saw me move and began to trot away from me and into the protection of the forest. I managed to get my scope in focus in time to see that there was a buck and a doe. My chance had finally come. I was going to get my first Vermont buck. I immediately stood up from my stand and jogged over to where they had entered the woods. Once in the woods, I evaluated the surroundings and had a good
  • 18. The Nature Of The Polar Bear The scientific name for the polar bear is Ursus maritimus. However, it has many other names as well, such as sea bear, ice bear, lord of the Arctic, and old man in the fur cloak. Despite all the different names, one thing is for sure, the polar bear s body has been constructed perfectly to deal with the seasonal shifts in the Arctic. The fur of a polar bear acts as a dense insulator, preventing almost all heat loss. In fact, adult males can overheat from running. The fur is transparent with a hollow core that scatters and reflects visible light, making it appear white, just like what happens with snow and ice. The skin of a polar bear is black, and it covers up a layer of fat that can be up to 4.49 inches thick. This thick layer of fat helps keep the polar bear warm in the water, since wet fur acts as a poor insulator. The polar bear s small round ears and short, compact tail also help conserve heat. Their large paws, approximately 11.81 inches across, are covered with papillae which help from slipping on ice. To complete the challenge of crossing thin ice, the polar bear extends its legs far apart while lowering its body to distribute its weight evenly. This action helps it survive on its home range of sea ice, which can be quite large, expanding far greater than any other species of bear. A polar bear s home range depends on both habitat quality and prey availability. Polar bears mainly depend on seals for their high fat content and can eat 100 pounds of blubber
  • 19. Captives And Voyagers Analysis In Captives and Voyagers, Alexander X. Byrd argues that the three movements of black migrants, whether free or enslaved, to Sierra Leone and Jamaica comprised of a cultural and social transformation unique to black migrant society, catalyzed not only by the prime transatlantic journeys of each group, but also by their preceding multi leveled passages leading up to their voyage and settlement. Byrd further exemplifies the notion that the African diaspora in black migration to Sierra Leone and Jamaica inescapably intertwined with the British empire. The violent, arduous, and dehumanizing passage of captives from the hinterland to the Biafran littoral alienated the slaves from their former culture and home. Prevalent in the interior, deracination deprived the enslaved of their own identities which led, more often than not, to the formation of kinship between captives; ties of which were rooted in the common struggle of enslavement. Byrd alludes to these ties by stating that captives were in a state of marginality, their old senses of place, self, and identification enfeebled and new ones yet to be fully determined (Byrd 26). Such need for a unique identification of a marginalized group of people led to many identifying as Igbo. Byrd goes on to claim that life on the ship further fueled the process of becoming Igbo. In his own words, the slave ship was a forcing house of social change (Byrd 56). The deprivation, violence, morbidity, and high mortality rates experienced in
  • 20. George Berkeley Essay George Berkeley was an Irish philosopher. His philosophical beliefs were centered on one main belief, the belief that perception is the basis for existence. In doing so, he rejected the notion of a material world in favor of an immaterial world. Berkeley felt that all we really know about an object we learn from our perception of that object. He recognized that in the materialist s view the real object is independent of any perceiver s perception. The pen on my desk would exist, whether or not I was in the room to see it or have a sensory experience of it in some way. Berkeley rejected this idea. What, then, happens to an object when no one can perceive it anymore? If no one sees the tree and no one has a sensory experience of it, does it cease to exist? This idea suggests that objects pop in and out of reality when not being perceived by any human perceiver. Berkeley argues from an immaterialist standpoint and says that objects do not act in such a manner. He tries to save his theory by saying that the tree does in fact exist because God is the continuous perceiver of all things and therefore God always perceives the tree. This is an illegitimate appeal to save his philosophy. By saving his theory in this manner he shoots himself in the foot. ; If God cannot be perceived, and if to be is to be perceived, then God cannot possibly exist. Although the existence of God can be inferred through the classical ontological argument, doing so scuttles his immaterial world. If one can have knowledge through inference, then one can infer the existence of a material world. Berkeley s answer to the existence of the tree in the quad is not convincing because his argument is circular. If something must be perceived in

Even our current governor in Wisconsin, Scott Walker, did not like the fact that we had illegal immigrants in Wisconsin. He argues that we put incredible amounts of money into security in airports, and waterways, so we should actually start protecting our borders. Although our governor obviously does not like the fact that we have illegal immigrants in Wisconsin, many economists say that illegal immigrants don t have too much of an economic impact. According to Adam Davidson in his article, he states that when average over the whole economy, the affect is a small net positive . With all of this information, it is safe to say that the economic impact of illegal immigration in Wisconsin is far smaller than other trends in this economy such as increasing the use of automation in manufacturing. I was quite surprised to find out that most Illegal immigrants actually do pay taxes, I always thought you would need a social security number or something but I was very wrong. I found that most undocumented immigrants receive benefits, pay taxes, and even use government services. I actually

Foucault gives a detailed description of the transition of discipline and punishment beginning in the seventeenth century. Foucault begins with insight into the tortures forms of punishment common in the seventeenth century. The torture involved prisoners being placed on a scaffold while holding a two pound torch of burning wax. There the flesh would be torn from their body with hot pincers before their bodies were quartered by four horses attached to each limb. The seventeenth century was a period of time when public executions were common place and physical torture was the primary means used to force confessions from the accused. The seventeenth century torture period was based on the premise that the display of public torture and public executions would lead to a level of fear that would detour others from committing crimes. The gruesome display was to be so feared that no one would dare want to endure this experience first hand. Torture was an affective coercive tool getting the accused to confess to a crime. If the accused was able to withstand the torture placed upon him, he could be considered innocent of the crime of which he was accused. Actual guilt or innocence was not relevant as a guilty man could sometimes withstand higher levels of torture without confessing while innocent men would sometimes confess to crimes that they did not commit to put an end to their

  • 27. What Are The 8 Features Of Crime 8 Features of Crime There are eight essential factors that are found every crime and therefore make up the legal concept as to what crime is. The eight concepts are actus reus, mens rea, concurrence, causation, harm, legality, necessary attendant circumstances, and punishment. Actus reus means guilty act, or any act that is in violation of the law. This term describes the physical not the mental act of committing a crime.Omission to act is also represented under this act, for example child neglect where a parent or guardian does not fulfill their duties that are afforded to a child. Another part to this is also threatening to act which can be criminal as well. If you tell someone that you re going to murder them can get one into trouble because threats, especially those against the president, are taken very seriously.Attempted murder is also illegal even if it is not accomplished if one is caught in the act or of doing the act then they can be arrested. Conspiring to commit an illegal act and that can be proven is illegal as well. One example is if you were to have this elaborate plan to rob a very prominent bank and you are communicating with people and making plans of the building then that is enough to get you in trouble for conspiring. These are the concepts that fall under actus reus . The next idea of crime is mens rea which is kind of like partner to actus rea. Except mens rea is the state of mind that accompanies a criminal act. There are four types of mens

The well known musical Little Shop of Horrors took over the Dubois Little Theater this December under the direction of Ms. Shannon McNutt. Little Shop of Horrors is a fun, musical about a young botanical genius, Seymour Krelborn, his boss, and future foster father, Mr. Mushnik, and the young, dramatic and attractive Audrey. Seymour was a shy and sheltered man until he found a strange and interesting plant, which he named Audrey Two after his one true love, Audrey. The musical follows Seymour as he tries to get his sentient, bloodthirsty plant to grow so he can reap the benefits, but his morals quickly catch up with him as he begins to lose everything that matters. I believe that this show was worthwhile to see and be part of. While watching Little Shop of Horrorsyou can tell that it has comedic elements, but it also is somewhat dark and disturbing to watch Seymour s guilt and grief consume him. It is clearly a dark comedy. This is made clear through many different aspects of the writing. The show deals with murder, death, and world domination, but the characters are always sure to throw in a funny line or stop for a quick song. Though I enjoyed being part of this production, I don t think it has a universal appeal by any means. During one of the shows, a young girl was watching Seymour feed fake body parts to the plant at the end of act

I was also taught that humans have the freedom to make their own choices about their lives and that is what determines whether one will ascend to Heaven or descend into Hell. Whether someone choses to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior is what will determine your life after death. I accepted this as truth for a very long time, as I had no exposure to different views. I would argue with my LDS peers on the meaning of Heaven and Hell and their nonbelief, and I would trust everything I was taught without much question. In college, things changed. I still believe in God, but differently. I have struggled with my own beliefs for a while now, because everything I have known is being, or has been challenged by discussions in my classes. I cannot imagine a life without my relationship with God, but I also have a lot of questions, that my mother would balk at. In this paper I aim to answer these questions, after critically explaining and analyzing Augustine s views on free will. The main focus of the paper will be my own beliefs and my own conclusions, and thoughts on how humans can be both predetermined and have free will. I aim to show my understanding on Augustine and also provide a clear and concise explanation of how and why I believe the way I do. The God of the Christian bible is said to be omniscient, or all knowing, and if one is taught this from a young age,

There are three different category of invasive species. The three are category are invasive animal species, invasive fungus species, and last invasive plant species. You can classify invasive plant by seeing if it is from the region or area.Well, an invasive plant has the ability to thrive and spread aggressively outside its natural range. This means that they are able to adapt to it surrounding very easily. A naturally aggressive plant may be especially invasive when it is introduced to a new habitat. Some invasive plants are worse than others. For example, like the witchweed, or even tall grass. When invasive plants like ivy or clematis dominate the groundcover, there is very little root structure to bind the soils. That s why large areas dominated by invasive plants are more likely to erode during flood events than areas with a diverse understory of trees and shrubs, which provide more root structure diversity. Invasive Plants can cause declines in native plants and animal numbers (www.portlandoregon.gov). For example, if a strong animal came in, such as a lion and ate most of the weakest living things there are, then it can have a huge affect on the other kinds of living animals around it this has the same effect with plants. It compares the smallest (first index at first iteration) value it has to every single other element in the array. Every time it finds a smaller, it redefines it as smallest, then once it is finished comparing makes a swap. It then repeats the process from the 2nd index, and once again compares it to every single proceeding element. It repeats this until the list is sorted. It even does this even if there is no sorting to be done, hence, always the same order of
  • 40. The Rise Of The Late Nineteenth Century And Early... The late nineteenth century and early twentieth century was a time of strife in Vietnam. Transitioning from an independent to a colonized country caused the Vietnamese to resent their home land. With the rise of the soviet and their system of communism, the weak Vietnam was bound to be penetrated by the dominating power. With internal disunity and rebellions due to a pro catholic president in a Buddhist dominant society, the defense of the country was marred. Since defense was down, take overs had begun and caused the beginning of a war that was mistakenly drawn out for over ten years which also caused the deaths and wounds of over millions of men. The truth of the war compared to the war that was envisioned, brought disappointment to the main power leading the frail South Vietnamese, the United States. The involvement of such a pugnacious country brought anguish to the poor region. With the waste of lives, time, and money, U.S involvement was one of the most unnecessary occurrences to the history of both the United States and Vietnam. One of the most prominent foundation of the fear was the speech given by Eisenhower in 1954. Labeled the domino theory, Eisenhower proposed the theory in concern to communism in Indochina. The theory soon became the justification for many presidents to perform ill advised plans. The involvement of the United States in the Vietnam War was ultimately a mistake. 4 | Page Introduction A war that everyone in

The success of retrofitting depends on the actual cause and the measures adopted to prevent its further deterioration. The process involves repair, retrofit, renovation and even part reconstruction . Steel elements in the form of plates, angles, I sections along with anchor bolts / could be used with proficiency for retrofitting of a damaged RCC building. This paper has elaborated in detail different aspects of cracks developed in concrete structures with remedial retrofitting measures along with sketches and calculation methods. Some generic examples of retrofitting methodologies applicable to Global and / or Local failures in concrete have been cited in this
  • 42. Ian Mcewan s Use Of Symbolism In Atonement In the novel Atonement, every character elicits either a positive or negative response from the reader. Ian McEwan s character Robbie Turner typically elicits more of a positive and sympathetic response because people pitied him for his tragic experiences. He never actually did anything harmful to anyone else, despite what had been said; therefore, the readers always had faith that Robbie would somehow be happy again. McEwan created Robbie with a strong personality that allowed him to have hope and still love Cecilia, despite being unfairly accused and imprisoned for someone else s actions. His experiences and outlook on life and love can be easily compared to Jesus, which can contribute to the theme because both men overcame their trials.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book, he had liberal, essentially Christian, politics. Robbie could easily be compared to a Christ like figure. He was metaphorically crucified and cast out when the accusations were said, like Jesus. The Dunkirk beach scene is definitely not irrelevant in any sense of the word. This is essentially the Passion of Robbie. Clearly he cannot have a pierced side or Crown of Thorns like Jesus, but he does rise from the dead in the penultimate scene. McEwan used the biblical symbolism to show how Robbie, like Jesus, was a victim of others

  • 45. A Brief Note On The Problem Of Co2 Pollution I think that the problem is that CO2 pollution because it is the highest it has been for hundreds of years. This world is going to be inherited by us so we need to keep it clean. Also the air is becoming more and more toxic as we reach higher and higher levels of CO2. My solution is a two part plan. Part one of two is instituting a carbon fee like Microsoft has created to become carbon neutral these funds can be pulled from by families in need of financial aid for this tax to get less energy consuming more efficient models. Part two of two is using percentages of the tax to do research on nano bots that take carbon dioxidefrom the atmosphere, and buying clean energies like wind power and solar panels. How I am connected. My connection to this is through my friends and family because the world is being affected by carbon dioxide more than before with ocean acidification and cities declared unfit for life. This is the world me and my friends will inherit and I don t want it to be some sort of poorly cared for world but a clean well cared for world. The CO2 emissions are becoming major things in the US and China as they pollute millions of tonnes a year of carbon dioxide. The connection I have to this came up when I heard how bad our air was getting a couple years ago. I haven t really gotten into this until now but that was a major help in my research because I already had the basics down for carbon dioxide pollution. Although I had no connections before I now realize that
