Conference proceeding
 Conference Proceeding is a one Type of primary
sources. There are two components; one is Conference
another one is Proceeding
 The general meaning of conference is a prearranged
meeting for consultation or exchange of information
or discussion. Proceeding means a sequence of events
occurring place or occasion
 A Conference Proceeding is a collection of
manuscripts representing the presentation given at a
conference. These presentation current cutting edge
original work published in full text or abbreviated
form.
 Conference ranges other from small gathering of local
chapters or special inters groups of national societies to
large international congresses attended by thousands of
delegates from all over the world. Depending upon their
purpose and setting, these conference are variously called
meetings, symposia, workshops.
 Conference proceeding is held every year, in all countries of
the world, on almost all discipline. Many a time
preconference volume containing papers to be presented
for discussion is brought out by the organizers. But the
general experience is , not all the papers included in the
volume are presented.
 Alexander King has summarized the main functions of
conference thus;
 Announcement of new knowledge.
 Exchange of information and experience.
 Education.
 Formulation of problems and situations.
 Fact-finding and reporting
 Negotiation and policy formulation
 Status and ceremonial congregation
 Front Cover
 Title page
 Copyright page
 Table of contents
 Technical papers
 Author Index
 Back cover
 Front Cover:
 The cover contain the proper title 0f the Conference Proceedings as
provided by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers)
in the Letter of Acquisition.
 The design of the cover should present the title before another text. It
should be clear, easily readable, and not confused with other
typography or design.

 Title page:
 The title page is always defined as the first right-hand pages the cover.
It is similar but usually simpler in design than the cover. It must
contain the proper title of the conference proceeding as provided by
the IEEE in the letter of Acquisition the before any text. The title pages
may additionally contain such information as the conference or event
name, location, dates, sponsors, themes, logos, and editors.
Copyright page:
 The copyright page follows the title page is always
defined as the first left-hand page. It must contains the
following information obtained from the leyter of
Acquisition.
 Copyright and Report Permission: Abstracting is
permitted with credit to the source.
 Libraries are permutated to photocopy beyond the of
U.S. copyright law, for private use of patrons, those
articles in this volume that carry a code at the bottom
of the first page
Table of contents:
 The table of contents lists the technical paper titles, author
names, and page numbers of those items in the proceeding. It
may also include Listing from any non technical pages in the
conference, such as, session titles, technical contents areas, print
volume breakdown, author affiliations, as well as other items
contained before or after the technical content which is also
called the front matter or back matter, respectively
Author Index:
 The author index is an alphabetical listings by family name of all
the authors of the technical papers along with the starting pages
number of their papers. This index appears at the back of each
volume, but carries folios only in the final volume when it
continue the pagination of the item immediately preceding it.
 Back cover:
 Usually the back cover is blank or does not contain
information. When it does contain information this
should be sent to Explore, otherwise it may be
omitted.
 Items that may appear in the beginning pages of a
conference proceeding may include the following:
Preface , Introduction, Editorial, Committees,
Sponsors, Dedication, etc.
Scientific Conference
 Presentation of papers at local, national , and
international conference has been one of the most
important methods of disseminating scientific
information. Nascent R & D information can be
communicated more rapidly and directly through
conference papers than through papers published in
journals. On the average ,papers are presented at
national conference about one year prior to their
publication in journals.
 Another advantages of the conference papers over the
journals article is the possibility of obtaining
immediate feed back from the conference participants
in the form of questions and comments following the
presentation of the papers . Conference also provide
additional opportunities for non-formal
communication and for developing and strengthening
personal contact with other scientists engaged in
similar pursuits.
Preponderance Literature:
 Long before the commencement of the conference
announcements calls for papers and program are
published in journals and also mailed to the members
of the sponsoring society and to other potential
participants. Journals such as science. Nature , and
physics
Literature generate during the conference:
 Very often abstract and preprints are made available to
participants during the conference . some societies such as
American society for testing and materials and the SAE,
supply conference paper through a mail order service.
Additional literature such as copies of opening and closing
speeches keynote addresses text of resolution and lists of
participants is distributed during the conference . these
may also be printed in the official Organ of the sponsoring
society . The American society for information science for
example providing abstract of papers on hard copy and full
texts of papers on microfiche during its annual conference
 Post conference Literature:
 Post conference literature may appear in one of several
alternative forms. The complete proceeding of the
conference consisting of edited version if the papers read
discussion. Speeches minutes resolution and list of
attendees may be published as a monograph or as a special
issue of a journal . Alternativly, some or all of the
indivisiual contribution presented at the conference may
be published, often suitable revised as paper in primary
journal it is not uncommon for agency supporting the
research paper to be subsequenty issued as a technical
report by the agency supporting the research or the
organization in which the investigation was carried out.
Bibliographic control of conference literature:
 Papers presented at conference are very important for
current awareness because of the currency of the
information reporting in them. Published volumes of
conference are valuable as authorities surveys of
developing subjects and as of conference working. The
bibliographic control of conference papers and
published proceeding of conferences is best with many
problems. An editorial in nature, contemplating the
future place if symposium volume in scientific
literature, listed several defects of published
symposium proceedings.
 Conference Program Committee confirms that full and
concise papers
 Meet the definition of research in relation to creativity,
originality, and increasing
 Humanity’s stock of knowledge;
 Are selected on the basis of a peer review process that is
independent, qualified expert
 Review; double-blind reviews conducted on the full
articles, prior to publication;
 Are published and presented at a conference having
national and international significance
As evidenced by registrations and participation; and
 Are made available widely
