What are Conferences?
• Organised events where the latest research is presented.
• Can also be called symposia, workshops or meetings.
• Within the field of computing, presenting at a conference can be
even more prestigious than being published in a journal.
• Not all conference presentations are published, but key
presentations are included within a collection of papers called
conference proceedings.
• In academia, proceedings are the collection of academic papers
published in the context of an academic conference. They are the
written record of the work that is presented to fellow researchers.
• They can be a valuable way of identifying experts in your subject
area - you can then search using the author's name in online
databases.
Why use Conference Papers?
• First time a research breakthrough is made public
or current issues are debated.
• Papers presented at a conference long before, if
ever, they are published in professional peer-
reviewed journals.
• Conferences often provide a forum for discussion
between attendees
• Papers different in both content and style from articles
published in journals.
