To analyze the effect of the policy before and after its implementation.
To indicate the shortcomings of FDI inclusion in the insurance sector.
METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY
The present study is descriptive in nature based on secondary data collected through newspapers,
magazines, research papers and various publications of government, to analyze the issues and
prospects of FDI in one of the most significant sectors of Indian economy.
ISSUES AND PROSPECTS OF FDI IN INDIA
Foreign direct investment was neglected in the developmental process of Indian economy before
1991.the 1991 industrial policy has paved out a way for the foreign player, India is a democratic polity
and is a country with the political stability and a growing pool of consumers and educated manpower
which is a favorable aspect for FDI in India.
And for a developing country like India, it has many advantages as it helps in overall growth and
expansion of the sector in which it is held. It gives a better lifestyle to the citizens.it Increases the
employment opportunities in the host country.
It helps in better enforcement of tax laws and in some cases it increases the export of a country. All
this could be studied under the prospect of FDI. Issues in FDI could be studied in two perspectives (a)

Darpa Research Paper
DARPA
We cannot solve a problem by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them, Albert
Einstein. This is a great way to describe DARPA. DARPA, Defence Advanced Research Projects
Agency, is a branch of the Department of Defence, that develops technology for the military to keep
our soldiers safe. Although some of their creations are products we take for granted. DARPA is an
important company, and the World will not be the same without them.
DARPA was started in February of 1958, by President Eisenhower (History). The reason was the
success of the Sputnik project. Sputnik was the first artificial satellite to be sent into space in 1957

working on liquid metal missiles also know as MAHEM (Jensen). These missiles send molten metal

Heart of Darkness vs. Apocalypse Now Essay
In Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now, both Joseph Conrad and Francis Ford Coppola create
similar statements through their creations as they both centralize their views upon the effects of
environmental changes that affect the human condition. The film Apocalypse Now vaguely reflects a
similar message pursued by Conrad s novella, due to the difference in time period, place setting, and
circumstances in which the film was created. Conrad wrote his novella during British colonization,
focusing upon imperialism. Coppola s film similarly focused upon the barbaric nature of man, which
demonstrates the insanity of the Vietnam War. In Heart of Darkness, Conrad centers his main focus
upon the journey of Marlow, a sailor, who travels into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kurtz s lack of restraint and hunger for ivory consumes not only his soul but drains all of his physical
existence. Upon seeing him, Marlow states, I could see the cage of his ribs all astir, the bones of his
arm waving (126) . Conrad focuses on the physical features of Kurtz to display the madness that has
consumed him. However, though Kurtz s body is deteriorating, Kurtz s mind continues to thrive.
Conrad shows this in Marlow s shock of witnessing a flame of passion that remains in Kurtz s eyes as
he converses without signs of exhaustion (126). Conrad continues to describe Kurtz as a shadow
composed of tranquility and satisfaction. Conrad s incorporation of this detail signifies the evil and
greed that consumes Kurtz and is reflected through his physique. However, the power of Kurtz s
presence is personified through the action of his words. As the strength in his voice captures Marlow s
attention, it merely reflects his influence upon his followers. The power reflected through his voice
displayed his confidence as well as his position as a leader for the natives. Hi demeanor displays an air
of arrogance that makes others feel less equal to him. Those who follow him fear him, but also
continue to respect him. In Apocalypse Now, Coppola creates a similar, however unique parallel
structure as Willard meets Kurtz.

Ethical issues:
The main ethical issues in this case is that researches at Johns Hopkins Hospital used Henrietta s cell
in multiple researches and send her cells to other researchers around the world without her family s
consent. Moreover, the Lackes themselves were used in medical research without informed consent,
and Henrietta s medical records were release to journalists without her family knowing.
These are issues because the cells of Henrietta lack were used to create immortal cells that provided a

Stakeholders Evaluation
Clearly, these researchers had their own agenda to acquire a medical breakthrough that would change
the history of science and contribute to the greater good of society. However, their authority was used
in an unwarranted manner to accomplish their goals, regardless of their respectable intentions in
wanting to make medical progress. In reviewing these researchers and medical practitioners actions
during the 1950 s which entails series of unethical behaviors and violation of human right, it develops
an essential need to establish guidelines in the attempt to protect patient s rights and privacy.
Furthermore, due to the alternatives that arise throughout this case, there are many possible outcomes
to be considered that could have a significant impact on stakeholders if these courses of action are
fallowed. These solutions consequences may involve the tentative research, an advance way of life for
the Lack s family, political turmoil, economic health impact and a society whose cells may have

The impact of any solution to the Lacks situation could be far reaching. Stakeholders in any identified

My Favorite Flower Essay
I have currently been building a life in the deep parts of the tropical rainforest. Things here are very
different from home. They don t have regular seasons here like places normally do. Spring, summer,
fall, and winter are non existent; instead, they have wet seasons and dry seasons. Both wet and dry last
6 months each. The wet season lasts from December May, and gets 6 12 feet of rain during this
period! The dry season lasts from June August, and gets about 6 inches of rain. Most of the time when
you imagine the rainforest in your head you see bright colored flowers, and exotic plants. The
agriculture here is nothing less than how you picture it. One plant the forest produces that is a
common favorite, is the coconut tree. The palms grow rapidly so they can consume the most sun
possible. The spreading of the seeds help species with daily survival. Another plant that really catches
the eye is the Hot Lips. It is a vibrant red colored flower that lives under the canopy in the rainforest.
Birds are attracted to the flower by its bright color. This brings them to pollinate and disperse seeds.
My personal favorite is the passion flower. This is a pink, yellow, maroon, and white blossom that
grows with the vines in the canopy. It gets the name passion because of the rings of nectar. The ring of
nectar looks like the crown of thorns that Jesus wore during the crucifixion. Wildlife in the rainforest
is the most phenomenal thing of all. There are so many different species of

Christ of the Holy Bible and Dionysus of Euripides Essay
Christ of the Holy Bible and Dionysus of Euripides
Christ resembles Dionysus in many ways. Is it possible that Christ is simply an extension of the
Dionysian myth? Though the concepts of wine and faith unite the two, the idea of revenge compared
to self sacrifice separates the two deities. Dionysus fits the Greek understanding of vengeful and
selfish God that bear more anthropomorphic traits than Godly traits. Christ, however, transcends
human desires for revenge and acts in self sacrifice. This is the key separation between them.
The similarity between the two Gods is striking. Dionysus is associated with wine and revelry. Christ
forever associated himself with wine and celebration through the act of Communion and the ... Show

It is said that before he died he cried out, It is finished. The last words that the chorus speaks echo the
same thought. It is finished. That is not the only surprising thing. The Bible tells of God s struggle to
find a way to salvage the relationship with his children. The last line of the Bacchae reverberates the
concept of the Godly struggle to find the right action.
The motives of Dionysus are extremely perplexing to a modern audience. I will go; for that which fate
forbids, can never befall me. For this thy mockery be sure Dionysus will exact a recompense of thee
even the god whose existence thou deniest; for thou art injuring him by haling me to prison (Euripides
28).
John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in
him shall not perish but have eternal life. The quote from the Bacchae is rooted in Dionysus s
individual desire for revenge upon those who snubbed him by not believing in him. Nowhere in the
text is Dionysus noted for performing any large acts of self sacrifice. The story of Jesus, on the other
hand is based in self sacrifice. According to John 3:16, Christ allowed himself to die on the cross to
take on the pain of every person in the world. The contrast in motivations between the two divinities is
startling whether or not one believes either to be truth.
Jesus is reputed to have

Social Media
Tweet that!! Post that pic on Instagram!! Slide in my DMs!!! Add me on Snapchat!!! These are the
phrases our generation love to use when we try to interact with one another. Social media is a great
way to open up opportunities and can assist us with getting our merchandise/business/art promoted or
advertised for the world to see. However, there are numerous ways that social media can ruin people s
reputation/careers/future in getting a job. Today I am going to provide the positive and negative
features of social media.
Social networks are successful because they offer widespread participation, but at the same time, they
open their users up to unnecessarily dangerous exposure. (Herring, Mark Y.. Social Media and the
Good Life: Do They Connect? Jefferson NC: McFarland, 2015. ProQuest ebrary. Web. 10 September

ideas. Promoting your ideas through social media is a great way your voice to be heard by millions of
other users using the same social media you use every day. Promoting may get you discovered by
celebrities/authors/people who are looking for good marketing. However, some ideas/opinions you
choose to express may cause an uproar of cyberbullying and may cause negative attention to be
directed towards you, which nobody wants to deal with. Communication is also a great advantage that

Bob Dylan Similes
Among the American folk music, the name Bob Dylan is murmured with hushed respect ( Getting To
Dylan 1986 documentary ). Bob Dylan, originally named Robert Allen Zimmerman was born on May
24, 1941. At the age of eighteen, Bob Dylan attended the University of Minnesota, where he sought
interest in music. Influenced by the blues, country, and rock and roll, he began playing music as a
teenager... ( Bob Dylan ). Single mindedly, Bob Dylan coached himself to learn how to play multiple
instruments such as the guitar, harmonica, and piano, which helped lead to a plentiful amount of
awards and achievements. Chronologically, Bob Dylan was announced in the Rock and Roll Hall of

The usage of similes and alliteration in the lyrics Like a Rolling Stone, helps reflect the poetry in his
work. The first and most vivid poetic device used throughout one of Bob Dylan s top ten hits Like a
Rolling Stone are similes. The best example of a simile in his lyrics appears in line sixteen through
eighteen. With no direction home / A complete unknown / Just like a rolling stone? (Dylan 16 18).
With Bob Dylan stating this negative comparison of a hopeless woman to a stone rolling down a hill,
going out of control, supports his listeners with the thought of a lonely woman with no direction
home. So this phrase, a rolling stone, that meant a lack of material possessions, a lack of home, a lack
of belonging for those who first sang it, became a symbol of liberation for the rock generation
(Bowie). These material ties weakened our vision and the ability to be able to see around us. Singing
this phrase and ending it with a question allowed Bob Dylan to create the sense of freedom and the
achievement of clearing his listeners visions to help them see through the illusions around them. The
other poetic device that contributed to the admirable background of the lyrics in Like a Rolling Stone
is the usage of alliteration. The first example of the occurrence with the same sound and letters is in
lines one to three, Once upon a time you dressed so fine / You threw the bums a dime in your prime, /
Didn t you? (Dylan 1 3). With the repetition of ime and ine it presents us with a childlike feel towards
the song. In addition to the childish feeling, it seems as if the woman approaches life in a much more
simplistic way. The short line length, the fairy tale opening, the simple words and images, the
straightforward aaaa repeating rhyme all these elements work together to create the feeling of a
children s song, of a child s world (Bowie). The woman described in Bob Dylan s lyrics assumes that

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SCD)
Emotional stress, physical over activity and vigorous activity in a person having coronary artery

with the long term reduction in risk of SCD [127 132]. Significant reductions in the risk of SCD with
both moderate and vigorous exercise was found by British Regional Heart Study [133] and the

between genders and the use of death certificate data for study gives an overestimation of problem.
This study has also suggested that per year approximately 40% of the SCD include females out of all

Essay The Memorable Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet
The Memorable Mercutio Shakespeare created many incredible plays during his lifetime: tragedies,
comedies and histories. One of Shakespeare s most famous plays is the tragedy Romeo and Juliet.
Furthermore, one of his greatest creations, as well as most memorable character, lies within the pages
of this tale. Although he died early on, Mercutio spent his time entertaining the audience with every
act and word. Throughout Romeo and Juliet, Mercutio displays notable acts of witty humor, loyalty
and devotion to Romeo, as well as hot headed rash behavior, which stick with the reader, even after
his death. Whether it is crude humor or a witty remark, Mercutio amuses readers over the course of the

During the play, Mercutio stood out due to his vast contrast to the constant melancholy tone, which
leaves a much larger impression on readers.
Although there are times where Mercutio mocks Romeo s love, Mercutio is still incredibly dutiful to
his friend on several occasions. Before Romeo meets Juliet, he is a rather gloomy fellow that is
partaking in an unrequited love. Even though Mercutio is not the best at showing sympathy, like his
friend Benvolio, Mercutio still wishes to try and cheer up Romeo. The friends first idea is to take
Romeo to a Capulet party, hoping the energetic atmosphere will improve his mood. On the way there,
Romeo states that he doesn t feel like dancing, which leads to Mercutio saying, in all seriousness, Nay,
gentle Romeo, we must have you dance (1.4 13). Mercutio really is concerned about Romeo s well
being and wants him to dance and enjoy the party. The discussion continues with Romeo saying his
shoes are made of lead due to his sorrowful love, but Mercutio retorts that, You are a lover; borrow
Cupid s wings, And soar with them above a common bound (1.4 17 18). At this point, Mercutio is
looking for anything that can cheer Romeo up, which can be difficult for Mercutio, seeing that they
often have rather different opinion of love. Much later into this tale, Tybalt, one of the enemy family s
members, wishes to fight Romeo, but Romeo refuses. Mercutio, not fully understanding Romeo s

For example, most military games are based solely on some war or other, such as the games Call of
Duty or Medal of Honor. Neither game is very original, as they really have no storyline other than to
run around shooting the enemies. Originality is a prime requisite of a game being considered art.
Other games lacking in uniqueness are games based on movies or books. Most famous in this category
are the Star Wars games and Lord of the Rings series. Both may be very fun to play, but being fun to
play does not make them art. Art is original, fresh, never before thought of material. Star Wars and
Lord of the Rings both have engaging storylines, but said storylines had already been established
years before any game was produced. Again, to be art, a video game must have an original storyline,
not a preconceived one. As a rule, few games meet the originality criterion, but there are exceptions.

Examples Of Wisdom In The Iliad
Wisdom Younger men are changeable; he in his age among them, looking before and after, can see
clearly, what shall be in the interests of all. (Homer 65) This is what Menelaos, Helen s husband and
king of the Mycenaeans, addressed his army with in Book Three of the Iliad by Homer. I disagreed
with Menelaos and what he told his army. First, whether one is young or old, everyone changes one s
mind. For example, throughout the Iliad we can see that Zeus, king of the gods, changes his mind on
whether or not the gods can help in the Trojan War between the Greeks and the Trojans. At the
beginning of Book Eight, Zeus addresses the gods saying, If I catch sight of anyone slipping away
with a mind to assist the (Greeks) or the Trojans, he comes back blasted without ceremony, or else he

Zeus, despite having years of wisdom from his many years of life, changes his mind on whether the
gods can interfere with the war. This example proves that even if one is old one can still change one s
mind. Second, wisdom, by the world s standpoint, is not based off of age, but off of cognition among
other qualities. Vivian Clayton, a neuropsychologist, did a study in the 1970 s on wisdom. After
asking retired judges and law students and professors, who would have all been considered wise, she
concluded that wisdom is based off of the cognition, compassion, and reflection of a person. Monika
Ardelt, an associate of Vivian Clayton, then proceeded to test other people asking them questions
based on cognition, compassion, and reflection. She found that her older subjects had less cognition
than her younger subjects. These experiments and studies show that wisdom, from the world s view, is
based off of cognition, among other qualities, not age. Finally, one does not have to be old to achieve

Sanitary Napkins Situational Analysis
SITUATION ANALYSIS Introduction Over the years, women have used different forms of feminine
protection during their menstrual period such as menstrual aprons, knitted pads, and even rags. In the
Philipppines, women used a cotton cloth called the pasadora. Eventually, the disposable pad was born,
the first ones appearing to have been first commercially available from around 1895 through Curads
and Hartmann s. Disposable pads started with nurses using their wood pulp bandages to catch their
menstrual flow, creating a pad that was made from easily obtainable materials and inexpensive enough
to throw away after use. Kimberly Clark s Kotex appears to be the first of the early disposable pads to
take off in the market. Several of the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This pulled down volume growth to an extent while resulting in faster value movement. A portion of
Filipinas of menstrual age have growing appreciation for these products, since they offer a certain
value added appeal, luring some consumers despite its higher price.  However, the demand for these
innovative products continues to be challenged by the majority of the Philippine population being
increasingly budget conscious going into 2005. As such, the rising popularity of simpler yet cheaper
brands stole away from these more expensive brands, boosting volume growth up on the whole,
resulting in an overall stronger volume and value growth for sanitary protection in 2005.  Standard

Theme Of Motivation In Othello
Motivation is the key to the human mind, and its survival. In the Shakespearian tragedy
Othello, Iago s mind is perhaps the most perplexing of them all. However, his reason is not completely
obscured and hidden. The motivations of Iago lies in his symptoms of a societally induced inferiority
superiority complex, his supreme ego drives the plot and leaves destruction in its wake. The three key
elements to his motivation are his sense of supremacy and superiority, his own perceived status versus
his inferiority, and the lifestyle and privileges afforded to him from the power structures of society.
The most prevalent part of his motivation is his ego and air of superiority. Iago has a white
supremacist and thus racist attitude, as he states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has a perceived and strengthened the notion to Brabantio, that Desdemona deserves someone
better, one whom is of her own caste and complexion (and thus race) in society. His desires for racial
segregation are due to a white supremacist mindset. He believes she will turn from her mixed race
relationship with Othello and instead love a man of her (and his) own race, thinking himself and
others of his own race as superior, and the race that should be naturally loved. It s already clear from
the beginning, even before his plan, that he is racist, due to his use of the slur moor , use of racial

How Resources Within A Patient Centered Medical Home (...
Various elements influence how resources within a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) are
managed. PCMHs veer away from traditional episodic and often fragmented care to offer patients
higher quality care that is accessible, comprehensive, coordinated and more cost effective. PCMH
demonstration projects have shown that the model enhances health outcomes, reduces waste, and
improves patient and employee satisfaction alike. This transition, however presents significant
challenges and necessitates the restructuring of financial, material, and personnel resources within
primary care structures. Effective implementation of this model is contingent upon the procurement of
specialized staff, health information technology (HIT) systems, and possibly workspace
reconfiguration all of which can impact an organization s operating budget. Unfortunately, primary
care payment reforms as well as complex billing and coding guidelines pose a significant threat to the
financial viability of PCMHs and remain highly important factors to consider prior to undergoing this
transition. Despite many of these challenges, PCMH continues to be a leading model in primary care.
This paper presents a hypothetical PCMH implementation project and discusses some important
considerations related to the management of financial, material, and personal resources. Patient

Patient With Chest Pain
Chest pain can be one of the most frightening medical conditions to both the patients and the health
care practitioners. To most patients and healthcare providers, a chest pain can signify mostly an MI
while a chest pain can be non cardiac related issues. To better taking care of anyone who complains of
a chest pain, the first intervention would be the MONA: morphine, oxygen, nitroglycerin and aspirin
intervention. The next step is to have an electrocardiogram (ECG) done, and ABG, and a chest X ray.
In addition, the thyroid function level and the laboratory blood work would be ordered. According to
Buttaro, et al. (2013), other diagnosis exams that can be ordered as part of the care plan for this patient
can include complete blood counts (CBC), cardiac markers (creatine kinase [CK], CK MB, and

but people still feel stretched. And after doing a survey within the company, Novartis s HR So, the
leaders in the HR department were actively seeking for changes in HR function. In this case study, we
are going to discuss the definition and components of the Human Resources Information System, and
why did Novartis choose the HRIS system to help the company improve their HR management and
why did they halt this process after two years.
Introduction
The Swiss Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Company of Novartis was formed in 1996, headquartered

The Representation Of Villains In Disney s Film, Big Hero
Just looking at it, Disney s film Big Hero 6 is another representation of superheroes vs. mad scientist

looks fantastic, Disney s new technologies helped the movie achieve its creative quality. But even
though this movie is different. We all have heard this same story before. This film takes the typical
story line of a superheroes tale and mixes in creative themes that go against the typical assumptions of
the genre. This film shows us how it is a better choice to choose non violence over violence, how even

Hiro finds a way to override Baymax programming which then turns Baymax to a crime fighting
killing machine. In one of the most emotional scenes of the film, Baymax becomes the instrument of
revenge that Hiro wanted him to be. Baymax was meant to heal and mend people. He then later
learned to fight, but that is not who Tadashi created him to be. This movie argues that violence is not
something natural but rather a learned behavior, we must be reprogrammed to accept it. The rest of the
film reinforces the idea of the characters to find ways to stop the villain without using violence. The
best of the villains are the ones who believe that what they are doing is a just cause. In Big Hero 6 ,
the masked man s motive for having stolen Hiro s microbots is understandable: he needs them to save
a life. Nevertheless revenge is not justice, despite the villains deeper motives he is still a bad man. But
the villain s backstory and motives pull at our heartstrings and it is indeed hard not to have empathy
for him. By creating a villain whose intentions were nothing more than misguided grief, the film
teaches the audience a valuable lesson about

Essay On Australian Migration Act 1958
Legal relevant laws:
Australian Migration Act 1958:
Australian Federal law states that any non Australian citizens who do not have a valid visa is to be
detained, regardless of circumstances for a strictly limited period designed to obtain basic information
about health, identity, security and basic information that supports a visa claim, may form a legitimate
part of a system of immigration controls, as long as the detention is subject to effective review by a
court.
The people who do not have these valid documents are generally refugees and asylum seekers who
have fled their country for their safety. They are denied the right for entrance into Australia due to the
Australian Migration Act 1958 and are put in detention centres indefinitely.
The Issue with Australian Law

The housing project has a calmer, quieter atmosphere and allowed detainees to exercise more freedom
than detention centres. What should be changed is that there should be more housing projects around
Australia to accommodate more immigrants as a much better alternative than detention centres. They
should also be more inclusive of the qualifications required to be eligible to be in the residential
housing project.
Children and their families should not be split up
In residential housing projects the children were only allowed to stay with the mother but the father
was to stay in the detention centres. This separation of family exacerbates the already fragile mental
state of families. Instead the father should be allowed to stay with their families in the housing
projects, which would be more beneficial to not only the families but the Government as it would
require less resources when they try to unite the families again.

A modified cutoff function for Tersoff potential has been proposed in this paper, to estimate the
realistic mechanical behavior of single sheet of graphene. Success of any molecular dynamics based
simulation entirely depends on the empirical potential employed for estimating the interatomic
interaction forces. Cutoff distance in Tersoff potential that was earlier chosen arbitrarily has now been
optimized. Simulations were performed at different set of temperatures and strain rate to validate the
modified Tersoff potential with the existing experimental results. In detail comparison has also been
made with respect to mechanical behavior of graphene estimated with the help of modified Tersoff
potential and other potentials AIREBO, 2nd generation REBO and optimized Tersoff.

Due to outstanding mechanical, thermal and electronic properties, graphene is receiving increased
attention by the scientific community. Exceptional properties of graphene are owing to its hexagonal
monolayer of honeycomb lattice packed with carbon atoms. The mechanical properties of graphene

The Tell-Tale Heart Literary Analysis
Edgar Allan Poe wrote The Tell Tale Heart as a story about a man (the unnamed narrator) who is
terrified of an elderly man s eye. The narrator becomes so terrified, in fact, that he murders the elderly
man. Poe describes the setting, where the old man was murdered; he uses imagery and personification
to assist the reader in visualizing the setting; and Poe uses the following elements of dark romanticism
to show how the characters felt: nature and man s soul. Poe describes the setting in a mysterious,
spooky, and dark way. Poe wants the reader to understand that something terrible will soon take place,
and the narrator is preparing himself for what he is about to do, ... I turned the latch of his door and
opened it...I first put in a dark lantern...I undid the lantern cautiously...I undid it just so much that a
single thin ray fell upon the vulture eye...and every morning,... I went boldly into his chamber, and

Poe also uses deep, dark adjectives to give the reader a chance to imagine what the setting looks like
this is through the use of imagery. Poe uses imagery most when describing the old man s eye, I think it
was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it, (691).
When Poe describes the eye as the eye of a vulture the reader thinks of death, darkness, and
spookiness. A form of dark romanticism that Poe relates to imagery is man s soul. Poe s narrator
makes his hatred for the old man s eye evident in the diction he chooses to use when describing the
eye and the time creeping into the old man s chamber. As the narrator begins to kill the old man, both
the narrator and old man feel a sense of anxiety and nervousness. The narrator becomes unsettled and
anxious because he kept hearing the old man s beating heart; the beating grew louder, louder! I
thought the heart must

Observations In Homer s Odyssey
Homer attributed author of the Odyssey is an enigma of mystery and wonder with unique tendencies.
Since Homer was born in an era of pre literacy, much speculation surrounds his birth ( Homer 6). He
was supposedly the son of Epikaste and Telemachus born around 8th to 7th century B.C. However,
this is all conjecture since his ancestry is being traced from the Odyssey. Several cities claim Homer
as their native son, yet the most compelling deduction is he was born in Ionia; the reasoning behind
this is that the dialect that The Odyssey was written in is considered Ionic Greek ( Homer 9). Whether
he even existed is considered to be a great literary mystery coined the Homeric Question ( Homer 5).
Nevertheless, he is said to be a bard

characteristics for each skull. Additionally, I will provide necessary information about each skull if
needed. After that, I will put the fossil samples in evolutionary order form the oldest to the youngest.
Lastly, I will include a family tree that shows age comparison and ancestral relationships between the
homonids. The first skull that I observed in the Anthropology Department belongs to Australopithecus

Fear is something all humans share. This unity of having fear connects all of us together, along with

the novel 1984 written by George Orwell many common fears are brought into perspective, many of

A University s Ethics
As Americans look towards the idea of college today, some may agree that the overall goals of a
university have drastically changed since the popularity of higher education has increased. If one were
to ask the universities what their core values consist of, most institutions would boast about student
academics and growth being at the top of the list. As this response may ring true with most colleges in
the US, specifically smaller schools, the increase in funds for research and athletic programs have
seemingly overtaken the attention of larger, more competitive universities. Higher education has

Students, paying thousands of dollars a year to attend college, deserve to receive a decent education;
however, this is an ambiguous outcome when the professors are not being compensated as well as they

The values surrounding university athletics have also become a controversial topic of interest among

The Sonnets Of The Sonnet In The 17th Century
Prior to the 17th century, poetry was not only predominantly written by males, but also catered to their
ideas, interests, and views. During this time, women were limited in their expression and were
silenced to anything other than their household duties. Among this era, Elizabeth Barrett was born in
1806 to a family of great wealth in Durham, England. Under a very traditional, strict household, she
was the eldest of 12 children. Her father, Edward, was very controlling and forbid all of his daughters
from marrying. Although, he did encourage highly encourage their studies. Elizabeth began to explore
beyond her traditional studies and took an interest in poetry, literature, and various languages. At a
very young age, she could read the works of many well known scholars. Unfortunately, Elizabeth
became very ill, which in turn affected not only her well being but over overall mindset. Although her
circumstances grew worse, she was able to spend more time on her studies. Elizabeth later became a
very influential poet, writing the Sonnets of the Portuguese, challenging the traditional male
dominance in writing through her new view, writing style, and the concept of love.
With Elizabeth s gloomy outlook on life, and the overbearing traditional sense of love from her father,
she was certain that she would never find true love or even marry. However, the more she began to
write the more attention she received, particularly from one individual writer, Robert Browning. Later

The Cost Of The United States
An increase in the number of vacation days or limiting the hours worked in a week by the government
may increase the quality of life by providing more leisure time. However, the overall quality of life
would struggle because in this day and age one has to have money to have a good time. Recently after
much debate, the French eliminated their 35 hour workweek limit with strong justifiable arguments by
both parties. The law was first put in place in 2000 due impart to the unemployment rate that was
around 10% at the time. Ideally with shorter workweeks companies would have to hire more

Ethical Hazards
While agreeing that with the elimination of the law, restrictions should still be enforced to protect
workers from exploitation by their employers. Giving companies more of an edge in their industries
by tampering with the workweek hours could become a slippery slop. The 35 hour week was not just

driven plain and simple. If allowed, companies will either overwork an employee or find one that they

Metaphors And The Natural World
Whether we know it or not, we make use of metaphors daily in many ways to help us make sense of
the world. A metaphor is defined as a figure of speech that identifies an object or an idea that is similar
to an unrelated thing. The use of metaphors and the language that they portray help to create new
insight into the universe. They not only help classify the natural world, and help interpret the scientific
world, but they also set outlooks on individuals culture and society; however, some may argue that
metaphors are an impractical use of our language that only complicate things that can instead be stated
clearer. Our perspectives and the way we think are directly linked to how we talk and communicate in
in the natural world and how we are viwed by society. This is explained further in detailed in
Metaphors We Live By, because it clearly shows how individuals shape their perspectives based on
their experiences in society: In most of the little things we do every day, we simply think and act more
or less automatically along certain lines, (Lackoff Johnson 3). This furthers proves how much
metaphors can affect the way we think and the way we see the world from what we undergo and
experience in our life it is what gives us an opinion on certain matters of race, gender, religion, etc. We
all think and act according to how we interact with our society and it is the power of metaphors that
help guide and change one s beliefs to help portray our own perspective for others.

  • 4. Heart of Darkness vs. Apocalypse Now Essay In Heart of Darkness and Apocalypse Now, both Joseph Conrad and Francis Ford Coppola create similar statements through their creations as they both centralize their views upon the effects of environmental changes that affect the human condition. The film Apocalypse Now vaguely reflects a similar message pursued by Conrad s novella, due to the difference in time period, place setting, and circumstances in which the film was created. Conrad wrote his novella during British colonization, focusing upon imperialism. Coppola s film similarly focused upon the barbaric nature of man, which demonstrates the insanity of the Vietnam War. In Heart of Darkness, Conrad centers his main focus upon the journey of Marlow, a sailor, who travels into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kurtz s lack of restraint and hunger for ivory consumes not only his soul but drains all of his physical existence. Upon seeing him, Marlow states, I could see the cage of his ribs all astir, the bones of his arm waving (126) . Conrad focuses on the physical features of Kurtz to display the madness that has consumed him. However, though Kurtz s body is deteriorating, Kurtz s mind continues to thrive. Conrad shows this in Marlow s shock of witnessing a flame of passion that remains in Kurtz s eyes as he converses without signs of exhaustion (126). Conrad continues to describe Kurtz as a shadow composed of tranquility and satisfaction. Conrad s incorporation of this detail signifies the evil and greed that consumes Kurtz and is reflected through his physique. However, the power of Kurtz s presence is personified through the action of his words. As the strength in his voice captures Marlow s attention, it merely reflects his influence upon his followers. The power reflected through his voice displayed his confidence as well as his position as a leader for the natives. Hi demeanor displays an air of arrogance that makes others feel less equal to him. They don t have regular seasons here like places normally do. Spring, summer, fall, and winter are non existent; instead, they have wet seasons and dry seasons. Both wet and dry last 6 months each. The wet season lasts from December May, and gets 6 12 feet of rain during this period! The dry season lasts from June August, and gets about 6 inches of rain. Most of the time when you imagine the rainforest in your head you see bright colored flowers, and exotic plants. The agriculture here is nothing less than how you picture it. One plant the forest produces that is a common favorite, is the coconut tree. The palms grow rapidly so they can consume the most sun possible. The spreading of the seeds help species with daily survival. Another plant that really catches the eye is the Hot Lips. It is a vibrant red colored flower that lives under the canopy in the rainforest. Birds are attracted to the flower by its bright color. This brings them to pollinate and disperse seeds. My personal favorite is the passion flower. This is a pink, yellow, maroon, and white blossom that grows with the vines in the canopy. It gets the name passion because of the rings of nectar. • 8. Christ of the Holy Bible and Dionysus of Euripides Essay Christ of the Holy Bible and Dionysus of Euripides Christ resembles Dionysus in many ways. Is it possible that Christ is simply an extension of the Dionysian myth? Though the concepts of wine and faith unite the two, the idea of revenge compared to self sacrifice separates the two deities. Dionysus fits the Greek understanding of vengeful and selfish God that bear more anthropomorphic traits than Godly traits. Christ, however, transcends human desires for revenge and acts in self sacrifice. This is the key separation between them. The similarity between the two Gods is striking. It is said that before he died he cried out, It is finished. The last words that the chorus speaks echo the same thought. It is finished. That is not the only surprising thing. The Bible tells of God s struggle to find a way to salvage the relationship with his children. The last line of the Bacchae reverberates the concept of the Godly struggle to find the right action. The motives of Dionysus are extremely perplexing to a modern audience. I will go; for that which fate forbids, can never befall me. For this thy mockery be sure Dionysus will exact a recompense of thee even the god whose existence thou deniest; for thou art injuring him by haling me to prison (Euripides 28). John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. The quote from the Bacchae is rooted in Dionysus s individual desire for revenge upon those who snubbed him by not believing in him. Nowhere in the text is Dionysus noted for performing any large acts of self sacrifice. The story of Jesus, on the other hand is based in self sacrifice. According to John 3:16, Christ allowed himself to die on the cross to take on the pain of every person in the world. The usage of similes and alliteration in the lyrics Like a Rolling Stone, helps reflect the poetry in his work. The first and most vivid poetic device used throughout one of Bob Dylan s top ten hits Like a Rolling Stone are similes. The best example of a simile in his lyrics appears in line sixteen through eighteen. With no direction home / A complete unknown / Just like a rolling stone? (Dylan 16 18). With Bob Dylan stating this negative comparison of a hopeless woman to a stone rolling down a hill, going out of control, supports his listeners with the thought of a lonely woman with no direction home. So this phrase, a rolling stone, that meant a lack of material possessions, a lack of home, a lack of belonging for those who first sang it, became a symbol of liberation for the rock generation (Bowie). These material ties weakened our vision and the ability to be able to see around us. Singing this phrase and ending it with a question allowed Bob Dylan to create the sense of freedom and the achievement of clearing his listeners visions to help them see through the illusions around them. The other poetic device that contributed to the admirable background of the lyrics in Like a Rolling Stone is the usage of alliteration. The first example of the occurrence with the same sound and letters is in lines one to three, Once upon a time you dressed so fine / You threw the bums a dime in your prime, / Didn t you? (Dylan 1 3). With the repetition of ime and ine it presents us with a childlike feel towards the song. In addition to the childish feeling, it seems as if the woman approaches life in a much more simplistic way. The short line length, the fairy tale opening, the simple words and images, the straightforward aaaa repeating rhyme all these elements work together to create the feeling of a children s song, of a child s world (Bowie). However, even after the neglect and abuse from the step mother and witch, Hansel and Gretel continued to hope that the situation would get better; it is the same hope that abused children today need to hold onto so they do not become part of the health related statics, like substance abuse and suicide ( Child Abuse ). This movie argues that violence is not something natural but rather a learned behavior, we must be reprogrammed to accept it. Success of any molecular dynamics based simulation entirely depends on the empirical potential employed for estimating the interatomic interaction forces. Cutoff distance in Tersoff potential that was earlier chosen arbitrarily has now been optimized. Simulations were performed at different set of temperatures and strain rate to validate the modified Tersoff potential with the existing experimental results. Since Homer was born in an era of pre literacy, much speculation surrounds his birth ( Homer 6). He was supposedly the son of Epikaste and Telemachus born around 8th to 7th century B.C. However, this is all conjecture since his ancestry is being traced from the Odyssey. Several cities claim Homer as their native son, yet the most compelling deduction is he was born in Ionia; the reasoning behind this is that the dialect that The Odyssey was written in is considered Ionic Greek ( Homer 9). During this time, women were limited in their expression and were silenced to anything other than their household duties. • 42. Metaphors And The Natural World Whether we know it or not, we make use of metaphors daily in many ways to help us make sense of the world. A metaphor is defined as a figure of speech that identifies an object or an idea that is similar to an unrelated thing. The use of metaphors and the language that they portray help to create new insight into the universe. They not only help classify the natural world, and help interpret the scientific world, but they also set outlooks on individuals culture and society; however, some may argue that metaphors are an impractical use of our language that only complicate things that can instead be stated clearer. Our perspectives and the way we think are directly linked to how we talk and communicate in in the natural world and how we are viwed by society. This is explained further in detailed in Metaphors We Live By, because it clearly shows how individuals shape their perspectives based on their experiences in society: In most of the little things we do every day, we simply think and act more or less automatically along certain lines, (Lackoff Johnson 3). This furthers proves how much metaphors can affect the way we think and the way we see the world from what we undergo and experience in our life it is what gives us an opinion on certain matters of race, gender, religion, etc. We all think and act according to how we interact with our society and it is the power of metaphors that help guide and change one s beliefs to help portray our own perspective for others. ...
