Female sex offenders face risks of recidivism, especially those with prior felony or drug offenses or prior non-sexual child victim offenses. However, female sex offender recidivism rates tend to be much lower than males, around 1-1.28% for sexual crimes. This may be because females are often viewed as nurturers in society or law enforcement does not prioritize female-perpetrated crimes. Additionally, some laws still define rape as a male-perpetrated crime, which can contribute to gender bias in how female sex offenders are punished. More research is needed to better understand and establish laws regarding female sex offending.
