Disengaged Employees
Those working behind a desk day in and day pose a high risk of being counterproductive for an
organization. Technology is not an organizations friend when it comes to accessing social media or
conducting online shopping for personal items. People can spend hours pretending they are working,
when in reality they are surfing the internet, sending personal emails, or watching multi media all
while hiding behind their computer screen. Some individuals will accept a job, to collect a paycheck at
the end of the week even though they do not enjoy the job. Those who are not happy with their career
or disgruntle with their employer will become more disengaged with their job. Sure, every
organization has at least one disengaged employee, however ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Additionally, treating employees with respect and dignity while taking corrective actions to correct the
employee s counterproductivity, will prevent hostility between the employee and supervisor.
Furthermore, including the employee in developing the corrective measures is key to obtaining a
positive result using the participative management tool (Lindley, 1984). Finally, managers need to be
fully engaged with their employees, this will allow them understand the personal and professional
stressors the employee is struggling with and allow for discussion to correct the issues before it
becomes too late and the employee either quits or is

Unification Of Ancient Egypt
Settling along the banks of the Nile River, hunters gatherers evolved into subsistence agriculture. The
Egyptians had a unique and special bond with the Nile River which was the life source that made
Egypt function with great power. The Nile provided them everything they need from fertile soil and
fresh water, to rich hunting grounds with an endless supply of fish. Thanks to the river, Egypt grew
into a wealthy, vast mystical land. With that Egypt became a target to foreign invaders. To conquer
this land would prove to be difficult. Egypt s location was protected by the terrain surrounding the
city. You had in the north the Mediterranean Sea, west the Sahara Desert, east the Red Sea, in the
south Nubia, another city advanced like Egypt, and finally the Nile River running straight down
Egypt. With their land flourishing one may ask, why didn t Egypt want to expand and conquer new
territory? Simply because the Egyptians weren t interested. The
Nile provided everything that they needed. Expanding would mean trying to cross the Mediterranean
Sea, then the desert, as well as the Red Sea. Faced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

along the Nile River as well as the Mediterranean Sea. Being isolated not only unified the people but it
allowed them to develop a truly distinctive culture all on their own. Egypt developed written

Jewish Occupation In Poland During Ww2
In the countryside s of Poland during the Occupation by Nazi Germany Jews were vulnerable against
both the German State and even their own State of Poland. The people who had previously lived right
next door to them, were now seen as potentially enemies. No matter the location that Jews were at in
Poland they were being watched. People of all backgrounds were keeping a watch on any Jews that
were living in their communities. Jewish citizens were on constant alert because of reports coming
from other towns of how Jews were being rounded up and either killed on the spot, or taken to
concentration camps. Through these events in and around the camps ideologies and humanity were

This morning a number of Jews attempted to escape from the city, but they were stopped by other
Jews who were afraid that a mass escape would give the Germans an excuse for more killing. This
began to show how vulnerable the Jews were, they were going through not only physical but mental
stresses. Jews not only had to worry about Germanys shooting them, but also other Jews from

Most Important Muslim Innovations
One, two, three, four, five without Muslims we wouldn t even know numbers existed. We have so
much to thank them for because most of the things we use today in the United States were made by
Muslims. The most important Muslim innovations that changed the world today are geography,
anatomy, and health. One of the best innovations Muslims have created was health. Health was one of
the best innovations because without health most of the population of people would be gone because
disease would kill them off. In the article it say The encyclopedia covered many disease and
treatments known at the time . The article also says hospitals were built throughout Arab Muslim time,
Muslims built hospitals in separate areas for people with certain disease . Without medicine and
disease millions of people would be gone in our world today. Although some people might say that

However, in this modern day and age, it is unquestionable easily accessed via the internet as
technology has gotten better some countries are open about pornography while others ban it outright
or only ban some pornography. In the United States only one type of pornography is banned and
considered criminal currently and that is child pornography for logical viewpoint children can neither

Children may shape their sexual preference for both likes and dislikes if they can comprehend it.
However, parents or guardians should dictate what their children are exposed to computers and
televisions have blockers and so do cell phones and tablets which are a bit more difficult, but they not
fully safe and can be circumvented in many ways. The most common is website names being
misleading or the same or similar or close to the same as another website just a different ending notion
.com .net .org et.al. Consequently, due to times changing sex education is not really taught in schools
anymore and, it is hard to say how many parents still get involved with their child s sex education by
having the sex talk or talk about pornography with their children or sexting. Sexting is a crime in
many states if teens are involved as it falls under child pornography, but the way the law is written
some states could push for teens that commit the sexting crime to be put on the juvenile sex offender
list which is rather harsh punishment for participating in a foolish fad. Today television shows are
evolving to be more inclusive both sexually and by nature to get the viewers because it keeps people s
attention from adult shows and children s shows are coming around slowly Steven Universe on
cartoon network is a great example of an inclusive children s show. Technology is also fueled by the
pornographic industry to some extent or it helps it thrive or innovate in one way or another. Which as
technology becomes more advanced it becomes harder for parents and guardians from protecting their

How Did Thomas Edison Impact The World
When one thinks of a famous inventor from the past, who is the first person that comes to mind? Most
would say Thomas Edison, who died in 1931, but is still living in a way. Even in the 21st century, he
is surrounding us with his inventions, such as functional incandescent light bulbs, and even the cell
phone you have in your pocket right now. Born in 1847 in Canal Town, Milan, Edison had a long and
successful career as an inventor up until the time of his death in 1931, at the age of 81. He was
married to Mary Stilwell until her death in 1884. Shorly after, he married Mina Miller. A well known
American innovator, his most significant and famous inventions include the phonograph, the motion
picture camera, and the long lasting practical electric light bulb. Thanks to his inventions, Thomas
Edison greatly impacted the world we live in today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Diagnostic Lab
Problem Statement
Cell filtration is often necessary for diagnostic lab tests. One example of this is for cystic fibrosis
patients. Individuals with cystic fibrosis often get lung infections due to the thick mucus in their lungs.
In order to prescribe antibiotics for these lung infections, a bacterial culture needs to be performed,
which requires bacterial samples to be separated from the thick mucus of sputum. Passive filtration is
the most commonly used type of filtration in cell sorting for diagnostic purposes and extorts cells
physical properties (Yoon et al., 2016). Dead end filtration is a form of passive filtration where the
filtrate is added perpendicularly to the filter (Yoon et al., 2016). While dead end filtration is relatively
easy to perform, larger particles can block the filter, stopping the flow of filtrate through the filter.
This blockage problem causes dead end filtration to be underutilized (Mugnier, Howell, Ruf, 2000). It
has been shown that a cycle of forward and backward flushes can dislodge larger particles from the
filter allowing more of the smaller particles to rush through the filter pores (Smith, Vigneswaran, Ngo,
Ben Aim, Nguyen, 2005) but what percentage of backward flush is most efficient in a duty cycle with

The Causes And Effects Of Air Pollution In China
In the past decade, the severe air pollution problem in fast developing countries, particularly in China,
has caused highly social and scientific attention. In 2014, 92 % of the world population are exposed
over to the WHO Air Quality Guidelines (AQG) PM2.5 concentration level of 10 μg/m3 (World
Health Organization, 2016). Ambient particulate matter (PM) pollution ranked as the third leading risk
factor in India and Nepal, and ranked as the fifth in China (GBD 2015 Risk Factors Collaborators,
2016). In 2012, about 3 million deaths globally were attributed solely to ambient air pollution, and
around 87% of it occurred in low and middle income countries (World Health Organization, 2016).
Whilst strong positive trend in PM concentrations are generally attributed to anthropogenic emissions
and natural biogenic emissions, it is also affected by the physical meteorology and climate (Guo et al.,
2014; Kirtman, B. et al., 2013; Wang et al., 2014; Zhang et al., 2016). Climate in China is largely
modulated by the East Asian Monsoon and climate teleconnections with the Niño Southern Oscillation
and the Arctic, therefore air quality in China is affected by the variations and change in these climate
systems (Cheng et al., 2016; H. Wang et al., 2015; Zhu et al., 2012; Zou et al., 2017).
In the last two decades, climate science has achieved great development, but climate information is
not currently effectively used by decision makers and stakeholders (Miles et al., 2006). A gap exists

Analysis of Firebird by Stravinsky Essay
Analysis of Firebird by Stravinsky
Immediately we are introduced to the leitmotif, major and minor thirds, within a tritone. This returns
at bars 15 18 and at various other parts in the suite of which I will later elaborate. Within the opening
few bars the pizzicato and legato combined in the cello and bass section produces an ominous opening
to the work. The base drum roll and the murky off beat and horn entry at bar 5 makes it clear that it is
evil magic. One of Stravinsky s traits that often appears is how he uses tritones to represent evil
magic, e.g. f# to C, shown in bars 11 and 12, and more simple harmony and chord progressions, e.g.
dominant 7ths and 9ths to show good magic which can bee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The bars silence leaves the audience in suspense wondering whether or not Ivan has managed to catch
the Firebird, before a certain elegance added in the variations which has a waltz like lilt to it. The high
register, quick rhythms and simple harmony represent good magic and has an uplifting feeling to it.
The imagery is quite clear of a bird teasing Ivan mocking him as he can t quite catch her. In bar 3, the
tonality becomes less clear, and a whole tone scale is used, this is yet another of Stravinsky s traits, he
pushed these boundaries where other great composers were scared to use it. Stravinsky uses the
piccolo to represent the Firebird taking to flight; this can be seen in 2 bars before figure 11. During the
coda there is a feeling of speeding up without actually doing so. The flurry of descending triplet semi
quavers could represent the Firebird falling slowly down, into Ivan s clutch.
Stravinsky s use of orchestra shows that Ivan finally manages to catch her in the pantomime.
(Pantomime used in the traditional sense, miming). The hand stopped horns in figure 20 represents
Ivan actually capturing the Firebird, there is a first inversion augmented 6th and tritones heard three
times during figure 20 this is the firebird trying to escape from Ivan s tight clutch. We hear once again
the original leitmotif in semi quavers, retrograde inverted and simply retrograde.

Though Mattel has embarked on the Global manufacturing Principles (GMP) and regular social audits,
Mattel cannot intensively monitor the business processes and activities of its partners. There is no

The advent of social networking and other media has transformed the way citizens interact and how
businesses market, promote, and distribute their products globally. The same can be said for mass
collaboration efforts occurring through digital, online technology for the development of new and

power and influence to individuals across borders and transform the nature of their relationships with
global organizations. As in the past, these developments underscore and reinforce the importance of
understanding different cultures, national systems, and corporate management practices around the
world. Students and managers now recognize that all business is global and that the world is now
interconnected not only geographically but also electronically and psychologically; it is hard to
imagine any business or nonbusiness organization that is not directly affected by globalization. Yet, as
cultural, political, and economic differences persist, savvy international managers must be able to

Power Control In Macbeth
How far would you go to ensure you were the ruler of a kingdom and the most powerful person of
royalty? Many people would do just about anything, up to including murder. The Witches in the story
told Macbeth of their prophecy and this added temptation and influence over Macbeth, but they
couldn t control his destiny. Macbeth exhibits the most control in comparison to the witches, and Lady
Macbeth. While the witches tell Macbeth about their prophecy, Lady Macbeth plants the seed to
murder the king, it is Macbeth who commits the murder. Although, in Macbeth, the three sisters and
Lady Macbeth exhibit some control on some events, Macbeth has the most responsibility over the
murders. Macbeth was responsible for his own actions which led him to be insecure and he continues
to commit murders as a result. The witches introduced the ideas and put thoughts in Macbeth s head,
but they were not responsible for macbeth s actions.
The witches tell Macbeth and Banquo of their premonition of Macbeth becoming King and Banquo s
sons being future Kings of Scotland. While Macbeth and Banquo pretend to not believe what the
witches have told them, Macbeth becomes obsessed with wanting to know more information about
him becoming King. The witches are responsible for delivering the prophecies that led to the master
plan to murder King Duncan. These Weird Sisters had, in sooth, no control over macbeth; their
prophecies no more annihilated his free will than the oracles of the Delphic

An Evidence Vitro For The Influence Of Bisphenol A On Uterine
Synopsis of An evidence in vitro for the influence of bisphenol A on uterine leiomyoma 1.
Introduction
Uterine fibroids are the most common noncancerous growths of the uterus also known as leiomyomas
or myomas. They are not usually associated with an increased risk of uterine cancer and almost never
develop into cancer but are considered as a common cause of hysterectomy.
Gynecological researchers consider that the increase in the incidence of this type of tumor is related to
the presence of exogenous estrogens in the environment, classifying these uterine fibroids as
hormonally responsive tumors.
The use of phenolic estrogens in the manufacture of plastic, resins, and several others, created a risk
for the human and environment since the exposure and pollution due to these chemicals has increased
significantly. Among these phenolic estrogens is Bisphenol A (BPA) which is considered to influence
the development of uterine fibroids. However, the role of environment estrogens in the promotion of
the growth of uterine fibroids, and its mechanism of action are not completely established.
The authors of this paper performed a series of evaluations and observations expecting to identify the
effect and mechanism of BPA on uterine leiomyoma (UL) cells. In this study UL cells were exposed to
different concentrations of BPA to observe the cell, the protein expression was monitored for changes
in expression of estrogen receptor alpha (ERα), insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF 1)

Analysis of the Poem Enter without So Much As Knocking by...
Enter Without So Much As Knocking by an ex Vietnam veteran Bruce Dawe was published in 1959
and can be found in his Sometimes Gladness: Collected Poems 1954 1992. Enter Without So Much As
Knocking shows how consumerism has a negative effect on society. The poem portrays the life of a
typical man who is living in the suburbs. It begins with the birth of a child. As the baby begins to
observe the world he has been brought into, he sees instructions, signs and expectation. Dawe stresses
the point of the first thing that the baby heard, a voice of consumerism on television opposed to a
loving and comfortable family. The baby has been brought into a materialistic world, a world where

Each verse focuses on the different aspects of society, which Dawe exposes them and satirizes.
In a series of verse paragraphs, Dawe focuses on the 1950 s society with an emphasis on the
consumerism, materialism and lack of individualism. He seeks to convince an important issue in the
Australian Society Our consumer driven culture; a culture that defines us through what we buy and
consume. The focus of Dawe s criticism of the consumerism is the family that bought home the baby
from the hospital. Dawe portrays it in a satirical way; the family life and the individual lives of the
family members who have been dehumanized by such a mercantile society. He instills strong
commands when describing his family commodities: One economy size Mum, One Anthony Squires
Coolstream Summerweight Dad along with two other kids straight off the junior department rack. The
warmth of the mum, dad and kids, contrast with the advertising language which describes them. It is
as if his mum is the size of a washing machine, the father is summed up by the suit he wears, and the
baby siblings have been bought like goodies in an apartment place. Dawe is not saying that this is
actually true; he is using metaphors and exaggeration.
The young man in the poem loses his identity as he develops into the ruthless world of adulthood with
its dehumanizing competition of money hungry, back stabbing and so and so. These exaggerated
words and clichés

Reflections on Research Based Writing Essay
If we understand library users as readers who write, we should reflect on when and why they write.
Generally, most users in academic libraries engage in writing based on research or research based
writing. How are we to understand this particular genre that consumes so many users time and
instructors assessment.
Consider first what research based writing is not. It is not creative writing, although creative writers
will often research some aspect of their subject. It is not journalistic writing, although the journalist
makes steady use of sources. It is not writing for publication, since it seldom finds an audience of
more than five. It is not an essay, although it has a beginning, middle, and end. Eliminating these

The author s opinions will be based on reasons and evidence, not emotions or hearsay. The author s
reasoning will follow the principles of Western reasoning, if only informally. The evidence used will
have a logical link to the reasons they support. Evidence itself will be a verifiable fact.
Furthermore, research based writing seeks a plausible (not conclusive) answer to a question of interest
to the readers. The overarching purpose for writing is to show why the reader should accept that
answer. This includes acknowledging and responding to possible alternative answers to the question.

Over Many Years, Lois Lowry S Novels Have Been Analyzed
Over many years, Lois Lowry s novels have been analyzed by many. Lowry is known for grasping
measures of social control and taking them a step further. While some, such as Lucas Kavner (2012)
and Carter F. Hanson (2009) declare their acclamation for her out of the box writing technique,
scholars and Utopian studies, such as Lyman Tower Sargent (1988), Tom Moylan (2014), and Fredric
Jameson (1998), place emphasis on the contradiction that dystopia has on nature.
One could only dream of a world without discrimination. In a world with no differences shown hatred,
crime, and civil disputes would be something unheard of. Popular, fame, winner and loser would be

Intelligence , Integrity , Courage , Wisdom , and the Capacity to See Beyond. (Lowry, 1993, p. 62 63).
The Receiver of Memory is the one person in the community who stores all the past memories of the
time before Sameness. The position of Receiver of Memory is important because there may be times
where one must use the wisdom gained from history to aid the community s decision making;
guidance in the present using memories in the past. (Noyce, Koenigsberg, Silver, 2014). The figurative
community Lowry writes of lacks any color, memory, climate, or understanding of their territory, all in
an effort to uphold structural order and a true sense of equality beyond personal individuality. Our
people made that choice, the choice to go to Sameness. Before my time, before the previous time,
back and back and back. We relinquished color when we relinquished sunshine and did away with
differences. He thought for a moment. We gained control of many things. But we had to let go of
others. (Lowry, 1993, p. 95)
Though some scholars do not agree with the writing techniques of Lois Lowry, I argue that Lowry is
an amazing and independent writer. I find Lowry s writing to be very fascinating and somewhat
truthful in the real world even though these are fiction novels. While Lowry writes of these innovative
places, she uses symbolism which connects the character s world to our own world.

Unhealthy Food Choices, Lack Of Parental Guidance, And A...
In 2012, one third of adolescents were either overweight or obese and 18% of 6 11 year olds were
obese; that is a staggering statistic (CDC). This can cause life long problems for these children. In this
essay, I will show you that unhealthy food choices, lack of parental guidance, and a sedentary lifestyle
are some of the leading causes of obesity in our children. For instance, these days with most parents
having to work outside the home, there is not much time spent cooking healthy meals. Most children
come home to an empty house and many do not know how to cook, so unless there is something
prepared for them ahead of time, they head straight for the junk food. Plus, with all the inexpensive
convenience foods that are on the shelves these days it makes it too easy for one to whip up a family
meal or snack in just minutes in the microwave. The problem with these convenience foods is that
they are usually high in fat, sugar, and calories (Sorte, Daeschel, Amador 5). Not only are convenience
foods bad for you, but also too are the so called fast foods. If you go to any local fast food restaurant
and order one cheeseburger meal with fries and a soda, you have literally eaten your whole days
calories in one meal and two days worth of fat. For instance a Whopper Value Meal contains: 1430
calories, 65 grams of fat, 1930 mg. sodium, 85 mg. cholesterol, 89 grams sugar, 0 vitamins, 0 calcium
and 0 iron. (Calories in Burger King Whopper Value Meal (With Cheese, Medium Fries,

Water And Its Effects On Our Lives And The Health Of Our...
The commodification of water throughout history has had substantial impacts the way we live our

This theory of dilution is the solution to pollution worked for a little while but as population grew and

The purpose of this group project is to provide the members of LU BUSI 520 Delta Group with a
patterned professional forecasting model for research and analysis of a prospective new product. The
new product will be the Sonic 1000 PDA; a fictitious product formulated especially for this mock up

We will be targeting several different markets that we feel have potential either due to great need for
the product or available disposable income and status.
Mission Statement Sonic believes that the Sonic 1000 PDA is versatile and user friendly and is the
best way to keep you in touch with your life.
Competitive Strategy Sonic should endeavor to use Porter s generic competitive strategy of
differentiation as its overall strategy. Versatility and ease of use are what Sonic will provide to the
consumer. Our secondary strategy should be focus, we will key in on a few different market segments
which we feel are high profile markets and deserving of attention. Sonic s pricing could be our
greatest asset. According to Levitt, in his article, Marketing Myopia, Henry Ford had a strategy which
included mass production, but that first and foremost one must never place the profit lure from this
production above thinking about your customer. Henry Ford worked from the idea that he could
produce his invention, the car for $500, and therefore because it was priced reasonably could expect to
sell millions of cars. His focus was not on mass production, but what the consumer could afford to pay
for his product, and then he worked to produce it for that amount. (Levitt, 2004, p. 144). This probably
would be a wise decision for Sonic, especially during this unstable economy we are facing.
Target Markets Sonic s primary target market will be business

The Effects Of 19th Century British Imperialism
When asked if some nations are more productive than others, many are hesitant to acknowledge that
destabilized countries are the result of parasitic relationships with more substantial governing bodies.
Imperialism enacted a literal empire of enforcing foreign customs into a less developed nation,
regardless of size or population. Since industrialization began in Britain in the 16th century, European
countries and their colonies were the first to perceive the need for mass production of weapons. In
response to Britain s possession legitimacy of 19th century Chinese territories, Chinese leaders
constituted the territorial organization known as One China, Two Systems today. Before this
arrangement, China and Britain conflicted over the role of free trade in coastal cities, and these Opium
Wars quickened modernization to redeem the century of imperialism. Considering the prolonged time
China has been in existence compared to western nations, its introspective policy ignited
dissatisfaction when citizens realized the contrast. Although an improving economic powerhouse
today, China still suffers the effects of 19th century British imperialism, with its democratic and
defensive strategies to such imperialism weakening economic efficiency.
Because of a lack of western interaction, the British were pursuing to expand their empires with an
Asian coastal port for trading items like tea and opium. Before the 1830s, China s sole foreign trade

Negligence Essay
Negligence is used in tort in order to provide a remedy for those who have suffered any loss or injury,
due to a defendant s actions. If a defendant had a duty of care towards the claimant, then a remedy can
be enforced to cover for any losses. Factual causation in negligence establishes whether it was the
defendant in fact who caused the harm, in order to determine the factual causation, the but for test is
used. The but for test includes asking the question of but for the defendant s carelessness, would the
claimant have escaped harm? The factual causation would be determined if the answer is yes , as harm
would have not occurred if the defendant did not breach the duty of care. If the answer is no then the
defendant would not be held liable. The but for test states that X is the cause of Y if Y would not have
occurred in the absence of X . An advantage of the but for test is that it allows the defendant to take
full liability, if their actions were the cause of harm to the claimant. Once an answer is obtained

A Short Note On The Disease Process Of Peptic Ulcers
Peptic ulcer is a mucosal injury of the stomach or duodenum. It results when mucosal guards get to be
impeded and no longer shield the epithelium from the impacts of corrosive and pepsin. There are three
sorts of peptic ulcers normally seen: gastric, duodenal, and esophageal ulcers, with regular etiologies
of Helicobacter pylori contamination, NSAID usage, and stress related mucosal harm. Because of the
more intrusive association of the gastric muscularis mucosa, peptic ulcer disease (PUD) varies from
the more shallow acid related issue, for example, erosions and gastritis. Peptic ulcers are commonly
named based on the area they invade, for example, gastric or duodenal ulcers, an expanded gastric
acid is the essential cause. This paper will discuss how the disease process of peptic ulcers identify

The Pros And Cons Of Shareholders
Shareholders of the company have ultimate control of the company. They can appoint and remove

A general phenomenon about the corporations is that shareholders must accept majority rule in a

Napoleon Warfare Compared To Warfare
Is warfare in the Napoleonic era fundamentally similar to warfare practiced today? The Napoleonic
era foresaw the potential for use of a variety of arms, improved military tactics and strategies;
however, failing to utilize the approach and maximize use of tactical resources to warfare is an
illustration of ineffective tactical leadership. The Napoleonic era is fundamentally similar to warfare

These are key points Napoleon integrated during his era and today s leaders continue to consider and

The victor of warfare in both eras could very well be determined by who has the best logistical
execution. A very clear illustration of this is shown in Napoleon s invasion of Russia. His lack of
consideration for ensuring the troops were supplied with basic needs proved disastrous. Supplying a
force the size of Napoleon s army was a logistical nightmare for the French command. He essentially
overextended his supply train and left his army hung out to dry. Perhaps the biggest influence the
Napoleonic era has on today s warfare excluding strategic improvement and tactics is recognizing the
impact of poor logistical planning. Whether it s the war in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi
Freedom, or Operation Enduring Freedom victories in war cannot be achieved without providing
sound logistical, operational, tactical, and strategical support. In today s warfare, we are still over
stretching military logistic units and military forces that rely on contractors to provide many functions.
It is important to note a shortcoming to each of the previously mentioned wars was a significant
increase in cost to the government regarding logistics; however, none were considered failures as in
the Napoleonic era. A successful logistical execution will provide a country strategic flexibility,

  • 10. Diagnostic Lab Problem Statement Cell filtration is often necessary for diagnostic lab tests. One example of this is for cystic fibrosis patients. Individuals with cystic fibrosis often get lung infections due to the thick mucus in their lungs. In order to prescribe antibiotics for these lung infections, a bacterial culture needs to be performed, which requires bacterial samples to be separated from the thick mucus of sputum. Passive filtration is the most commonly used type of filtration in cell sorting for diagnostic purposes and extorts cells physical properties (Yoon et al., 2016). Dead end filtration is a form of passive filtration where the filtrate is added perpendicularly to the filter (Yoon et al., 2016). While dead end filtration is relatively easy to perform, larger particles can block the filter, stopping the flow of filtrate through the filter. This blockage problem causes dead end filtration to be underutilized (Mugnier, Howell, Ruf, 2000). It has been shown that a cycle of forward and backward flushes can dislodge larger particles from the filter allowing more of the smaller particles to rush through the filter pores (Smith, Vigneswaran, Ngo, Ben Aim, Nguyen, 2005) but what percentage of backward flush is most efficient in a duty cycle with a constant amount ... In 2014, 92 % of the world population are exposed over to the WHO Air Quality Guidelines (AQG) PM2.5 concentration level of 10 μg/m3 (World Health Organization, 2016). Ambient particulate matter (PM) pollution ranked as the third leading risk factor in India and Nepal, and ranked as the fifth in China (GBD 2015 Risk Factors Collaborators, 2016). In 2012, about 3 million deaths globally were attributed solely to ambient air pollution, and around 87% of it occurred in low and middle income countries (World Health Organization, 2016). Whilst strong positive trend in PM concentrations are generally attributed to anthropogenic emissions and natural biogenic emissions, it is also affected by the physical meteorology and climate (Guo et al., 2014; Kirtman, B. et al., 2013; Wang et al., 2014; Zhang et al., 2016). Climate in China is largely modulated by the East Asian Monsoon and climate teleconnections with the Niño Southern Oscillation and the Arctic, therefore air quality in China is affected by the variations and change in these climate systems (Cheng et al., 2016; H. • 13. Analysis of Firebird by Stravinsky Essay Analysis of Firebird by Stravinsky Immediately we are introduced to the leitmotif, major and minor thirds, within a tritone. This returns at bars 15 18 and at various other parts in the suite of which I will later elaborate. Within the opening few bars the pizzicato and legato combined in the cello and bass section produces an ominous opening to the work. The base drum roll and the murky off beat and horn entry at bar 5 makes it clear that it is evil magic. One of Stravinsky s traits that often appears is how he uses tritones to represent evil magic, e.g. f# to C, shown in bars 11 and 12, and more simple harmony and chord progressions, e.g. dominant 7ths and 9ths to show good magic which can bee ... The bars silence leaves the audience in suspense wondering whether or not Ivan has managed to catch the Firebird, before a certain elegance added in the variations which has a waltz like lilt to it. The high register, quick rhythms and simple harmony represent good magic and has an uplifting feeling to it. The imagery is quite clear of a bird teasing Ivan mocking him as he can t quite catch her. In bar 3, the tonality becomes less clear, and a whole tone scale is used, this is yet another of Stravinsky s traits, he pushed these boundaries where other great composers were scared to use it. Stravinsky uses the piccolo to represent the Firebird taking to flight; this can be seen in 2 bars before figure 11. During the coda there is a feeling of speeding up without actually doing so. The flurry of descending triplet semi quavers could represent the Firebird falling slowly down, into Ivan s clutch. Stravinsky s use of orchestra shows that Ivan finally manages to catch her in the pantomime. (Pantomime used in the traditional sense, miming). The hand stopped horns in figure 20 represents Ivan actually capturing the Firebird, there is a first inversion augmented 6th and tritones heard three times during figure 20 this is the firebird trying to escape from Ivan s tight clutch. Introduction Uterine fibroids are the most common noncancerous growths of the uterus also known as leiomyomas or myomas. They are not usually associated with an increased risk of uterine cancer and almost never develop into cancer but are considered as a common cause of hysterectomy. Gynecological researchers consider that the increase in the incidence of this type of tumor is related to the presence of exogenous estrogens in the environment, classifying these uterine fibroids as hormonally responsive tumors. The use of phenolic estrogens in the manufacture of plastic, resins, and several others, created a risk for the human and environment since the exposure and pollution due to these chemicals has increased significantly. Among these phenolic estrogens is Bisphenol A (BPA) which is considered to influence the development of uterine fibroids. However, the role of environment estrogens in the promotion of the growth of uterine fibroids, and its mechanism of action are not completely established. The authors of this paper performed a series of evaluations and observations expecting to identify the effect and mechanism of BPA on uterine leiomyoma (UL) cells. In this study UL cells were exposed to different concentrations of BPA to observe the cell, the protein expression was monitored for changes in expression of estrogen receptor alpha (ERα), insulin like growth factor 1 (IGF 1) ... The position of Receiver of Memory is important because there may be times where one must use the wisdom gained from history to aid the community s decision making; guidance in the present using memories in the past. In 2012, one third of adolescents were either overweight or obese and 18% of 6 11 year olds were obese; that is a staggering statistic (CDC). This can cause life long problems for these children. In this essay, I will show you that unhealthy food choices, lack of parental guidance, and a sedentary lifestyle are some of the leading causes of obesity in our children. For instance, these days with most parents having to work outside the home, there is not much time spent cooking healthy meals. Most children come home to an empty house and many do not know how to cook, so unless there is something prepared for them ahead of time, they head straight for the junk food. Sonic s pricing could be our greatest asset. According to Levitt, in his article, Marketing Myopia, Henry Ford had a strategy which included mass production, but that first and foremost one must never place the profit lure from this production above thinking about your customer. Henry Ford worked from the idea that he could produce his invention, the car for $500, and therefore because it was priced reasonably could expect to sell millions of cars. His focus was not on mass production, but what the consumer could afford to pay for his product, and then he worked to produce it for that amount. (Levitt, 2004, p. 144). Profanity was highly associated with the drinking that occurred. Not only was alcohol used as a type of anti depressant, but it was done by under age drinkers (Cormier; throughout book). Buddy Walker, one of the main characters, is a sixteen year old and started to drink heavily after the divorce of his parents. Buddy began to hand out with Harry and his goons and drank to have fun and forget all his worries. He bought his liquor illegally and continued to drink even when in his relationship with Jane. Even when he was happiest when with Jane, Buddy abused alcohol which became his own brand of heroine. Like Buddy, most people do use alcohol as a way to escape and instead they should be using a proper drug prescribed by doctors. I believe that though alcohol may seem like medicine, it is far from it. It weakens slowly in the insides and confuses the brain to think it s better than any pharmacy drugs. It s a hypnotizer and it performs its work best in all ages, even young teenagers like Buddy. Even though We All Fall Down was banned, it has many points which make it worthwhile to read. The Effects Of 19th Century British Imperialism When asked if some nations are more productive than others, many are hesitant to acknowledge that destabilized countries are the result of parasitic relationships with more substantial governing bodies. Imperialism enacted a literal empire of enforcing foreign customs into a less developed nation, regardless of size or population. Since industrialization began in Britain in the 16th century, European countries and their colonies were the first to perceive the need for mass production of weapons. In response to Britain s possession legitimacy of 19th century Chinese territories, Chinese leaders constituted the territorial organization known as One China, Two Systems today. Before this arrangement, China and Britain conflicted over the role of free trade in coastal cities, and these Opium Wars quickened modernization to redeem the century of imperialism. Considering the prolonged time China has been in existence compared to western nations, its introspective policy ignited dissatisfaction when citizens realized the contrast. Although an improving economic powerhouse today, China still suffers the effects of 19th century British imperialism, with its democratic and defensive strategies to such imperialism weakening economic efficiency.
