David And Goliath Compare And Contrast
In the poem Casey at Bat and story David and Goliath, a comparison of David and Casey shows
differences and similarities. In the story David and Goliath , David is similar to Casey from Casey
at the Bat because David isn t afraid to lose just like Casey. The text states that David was a sheep
tender, and Casey was a baseball player, their both different but they had one goal, to win! They
both were supposed to win anyway. Another way Casey from Casey at the Bat , and David from
David and Goliath are similar is because they are both boys. They are both boys because the text
states that David was a boy, because who would name their girl David, and Casey is a boy because
girls do not play baseball. This is a fact because people have been to baseball games and seen that
they are boys, girls play softball, boys play baseball.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The text states that Casey s goal was to hit the ball and not let his whole town down, and David s
goal was to kill the giant who was threatening his army and town because he said, ВЁGod will
protect me.ВЁ This is because David and Goliath were very different people with two of the same
goals, 1 to defeat the other opponent, 2 was to make their kingdom happy. In addition, one of the
differences between David from and ВЁDavid and GoliathВЁ and Casey from Casey at the BatВЁ
is that David is from the bible and Casey is a baseball player. This is known because the poem we
read in class about Casey is that he is a baseball player because baseball is the only game that uses
a bat. (and softball (female version of baseball) is too.) Also, David is from the bible because
people have read this story in the bible, so they are both different characters. The second
difference between Casey and David is that David is a young boy, and Casey was a man when he

Macbeth Feminist Play Analysis
Generally, Macbeth is thought of as Shakespeare s most feminist play. With a supposedly
powerful female character and an inversion of gender roles, it is easy to see how this idea came
into being. However, it is totally wrong. Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, is a play about
an ambitious nobleman who would go to any measure to become king and retain that position after
receiving a prophecy from three witches. At first, he is unwilling to resort to violence to become
king but his wife, Lady Macbeth, manipulates him into doing so. Once the first murder is
complete, he has found a thirst for killing and continues to kill various people until he is
eventually killed and the rightful king takes his place. The claims of this being a feminist play
stem from Lady Macbeth s character and her relationship with Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is violent
and evil, while Macbeth is originally too kind, showing a gender rolereversal. Even so, there are
many problematic aspects of Macbeth that completely negate the few progressive components in
Shakespeare s writing. Macbeth is a misogynist play because it promotes strict genderroles, gender
non conforming women are demonized and seen as responsible for men s problems, and by the
second half of the play, any innovative gender role reversals are themselves reversed.
To begin with, Macbeth promotes very strict gender roles, with women and femininity being
associated with fear and weakness, and men and manliness being associated with power

How Is Loss Used In Mid Term Break
How is Loss Experienced in the poems Mid Term Break and November? In both the poems
November, by Simon Armitage and Mid Term Break, by Seamus Heaney, the persona is
compelled into that position. They both describe loss as a traumatic experience, which the persona
tries to detach themselves from in order to accept the reality. In November, the persona is burdened
with guilt and self blame. Realising that the situation is inevitable illuminates his fears of ageing
and death. Mid Term Break is an autobiographical poem where the persona (Seamus Heany)
maintains a very formal and distant tone in order to push aside his overwhelming grief. In both
poems, the persona tries to distance themselves from the situation to try and make the experience...

Heaney places the powerful monostich at the end, which intensifies the sombre mood into a
powerful shock to the audience. Comparing a four foot box with a foot for every year doesn t
only tell the audience how brief his brother s life was, but also highlights Heaney s realisation of
this harsh, inescapable horror. By rhyming the phrase bumper knocked him clear with his age on
the monostich links the fragility of the child to the powerful effect on the audience and family. This
reminds the persona and the audience that the impact isn t only on the child, but also on the

The For-Profit Education Industry
For profit education As with any business industry, the education industry is one big and
diversified with multiple options ranging from publicly own Universities, private nonprofit
colleges to for profit schools. But today I am going to talk about specifically about for profit

What are the methods used? What are the barrier to entry and exit? And last profitability. A brief

The first and for most barrier to entry to the For profit colleges and universities is Money. As

Attitude And Death Of Ancient Greece
Attitude to Death.
Greek
Background: Ancient Greece was a civilization that existed from the 8th 6th Century BC, also
called the Archaic Period, to the end of antiquity, around 600 AD. It is most famous for its
philosophers, artwork and mythology. They worshiped their deities such as Zeus, Hades and
Poseidon.... Their major demise came at the hands of the Macedonians in 338 BC after Greece had
been weakened by the Peloponnesian War. A war between the Spartans and the Athenians leaving
the Spartans victorious but exhausted of their resources and men.
Attitude to Dying: Death for the Greeks was not such a simple process. Seeing as they believed so
firmly in the afterlife death was not really feared, rather life was cherished. As shown by this quote.
I d rather be a day laborer on earth working for a man of little property than lord of all the hosts of
the dead. Achilles in the Iliad.
Upon death the psyche or soul left the body as a little breath or puff of wind. The body would
then undergo a time honored burial ritual. The ritual was split into two parts. The prothesis, the
laying out of the body. The ekphora, the funeral procession. And the interment of the body or
cremated remains of the deceased. During this process the ancient Greeks placed coins in the
deceased s mouth and tied a strap around the head and jaw to keep it closed. These coins served as
the toll for the ferry across the river Styx. During this time, people viewed the body and placed

Pyramus And Thisbe Vs. Romeo And Juliet

Pyramus Thisbe vs. Romeo Juliet
Tragic love stories have always been appealing to the literary world. This would be seen in Ovid
s Pyramus and Thisbe and William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet . Ovid, one of Rome s
greatest poets, was famous for The Metamorphoses. His love stories were deeply emotional, yet
very tragic. The story of Pyramus and Thisbe is the most emotional story in The Metamorphoses
and the most referenced in love tragedy. William Shakespeares best plays were his tragedies,
starting with Hamlet all the way through to Macbeth. No one knows exactly which source
Shakespeare directly drew from to create the well known tragic romance, Romeo and Juliet , but
it s pretty clear that somewhere along the way there was some major influence from Pyramus and
Thisbe. Both stories, although written in different era share one key theme: love and tragedy. We
fall in love and when once we do something rare and beautiful is created. Unfortunately not all
love stories have happy endings. The lesson learned in both Pyramus and Thisbe and Romeo and
Juliet stories will be the focus of this essay.
Pyramus and Thisbe were lovers whose houses side by side to each other. They were considered
so beautiful that If you searched all the East, you d find no girl with greater charm than Thisbe;
and no boy in Babylon was handsomer than Pyramus (Ovid 111). Overtime from living

The Pros And Cons Of Retrenchment
Business The business should at any point of time, prepare for plant closing and retrenchment of
the employee, even if they are doing well. They can start by having a clearly defined policy
about retrenchment, including being transparent and stating its benefits. Under the Employment
Act, employees who have worked with the company for at least two years can request for the
retrenchment benefits. The amount that is to be paid to the employee is not fixed and the
employer is not compelled to do so, therefore, it would be left for the employer and employee to
negotiate. However, the practice in Singapore is that for every year of service by the employee,
the employer would pay one month of salary. This would reduce the possibility of the retrenched
employee, bringing the case to the ministry. As per Ministry of Manpower guidelines, the employer
must give notice and offer the retrenchment benefits to those employees that are eligible (Ministry
Of Manpower 2015). The union would also need to be inform and if the notice period is not stated

The main reason for companies to retrench workers is likely to be because of cost cutting measures
due to financial difficulties and up till the extent of plant closing. The respective union role would
need to first advise and remind them on the alternatives to retrenchments such as temporary layoffs
or a shorter work week. However, retrenchment still takes place, in employment assistance to the
retrenched employees, the union can first help to negotiate the quantum payments, the
retrenchment and/or additional benefits for affected workers (Today Online 2013). For example,
the retrenched workers of HGST Singapore, received extended insurance coverage and was paid an
additional three months of union membership fees so that they can continue to enjoy the benefits

If we break out the third octet displaying the binary values for each bit space this is how it would
be displayed.
128 | 64 | 32 | 16 | 8 | 4 | 2 | 1
This is our class C after applying CIDR notation.
128 | 64 | 32 | 16 | 8 | 4 | 2 / 0 = 254By borrowing the one bit we have changed our subnet mask from
255.255.255.0 to 255.255.254.0.
The next step is to determine what our Network ID s will be, and what our usable hosts will be.
This is done by going back to the binary. There are 8 bits in each octet which is in base 2 the
numerical value of the binary numbers. This is equal to 28 or 256. When we borrow the one bit
from the third octet we are now adding that one bit to the original eight this changes our binary
value from 8 bits to 9 bits which is equal to 29 or 512. This means that we will now have 512 IP
Addresses per subnet, and if we apply the formula 2n 2 this will give us 510 usable hosts per
subnet. We can then take this same formula without the minus 2 to calculate the number of subnets
that we will obtain from this calculation. There are still seven on bits to the left in this octet. This
is equal to 27 or 128. This means that will obtain 128 subnets with this CIDR calculation.
This is the default C before we borrowed the one bit in binary notation,

Medical Care Cost Essay
Healthcare is expensive, that s just a fact of life, right? Well, most other countries don t bankrupt
their citizens for breaking their arm or getting sick. It seems everyday the cost of medical care is
rising in America. In 2012, 51 Million Americans were covered by Medicare, costing them
roughly $574 Billion dollars. It is speculated that, in 2023, 73 Million people will be covered by
Medicare and it will cost them a monumental $1.1 Trillion. People are choosing, instead of where
to get care and how quickly they can get there, whether or not to even get care. The expense of
medicineis because of how difficult it is to produce and discover new technologies. This expense is
paid for by insurancecompanies, when the time comes that a person... Show more content on

In reality, the main reasons for the price hike is the mismanagement and fraud that occurs, along
with a lack of preventative care. This causes more germaphobes and hypochondriacs to go to the
doctor more, using resources, requiring new technologies to be made, ultimately raising the price of
medical care because of its consistent use.
The overuse of medical facilities has more than one detrimental consequence. The frequent use of
the same vaccines and medicines will cause new bacteria and viruses to be formed and old ones to
mutate and grow more resistant to our medicines, damaging everyone in the long run.
A general reform of medical care in America won t work very well because it s not as much a
bureaucratic issue as it is a general perception of the people. It needs to be taught to the general
public that some diseases should stay home and be cured through your own means and to stay
out of a hospital if you aren t sick. The idea of going to a public hospital every time you feel
funny is unrealistic. People don t have or don t use a primary care physician, which can help them
understand if they truly do need medical care or just some

Green Man Flashing Essay
Green Man Flashing is a play written by Mike van Graan and it is a story about a woman named
Gabby Anderson who is sexually assaulted by her high profile black boss. This story explores her
life before the assault and after. It has moments of flashbacks and is a reverse chronology where
the play starts at the end. GreenMan Flashing is a contemporary political piece because it explores
modern racism, universal eternal ideologies and the styles of flashbacks and simultaneous scenes
are used.
Racism is an ideology that would always be a part of life however racism now is different to the
racism back then. Racism now is a very controversial idea; where issues like black people not being
racist but white people are racist are explored. In Green ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mike van Graan uses the style of flashbacks to tell the story because it shows that we all have to
go back to the past to grow as a person. This style of flashbacks also falls part of the idea of
reminiscing; that we all have a story to tell. The other style used is simultaneous scenes. This
style is modern because it adds to the idea of life not being how we want it to be. Life does not
really have a certain beginning and end; yes we are born and we die but when we choose is up
to us and when where we choose to die, give up, is also up to us. A great example of a
simultaneous scene would be scene 14 when Anna, Gabbys best friend, and Aaron are having a
conversation but also Gabby and Inspector Abrahams, Gabbys detective, are also having a
conversation. Mike van Graan couldn t literally make the scenes simultaneous but he did make
sure that he mentions that they are happening at the same time to show normal conversation. The
other choice of style Mike van Graan chose is that of not re enacting some scenes and this makes
this modern because it shows that whatever happened has happened. South African back then used
to dwell on many things such as pain but nowadays being sad is not part of the plan, mourning is
not given time. Aaron and Gabby do not give themselves time to deal with their son s death
whereas if it was back then it would have been a

Activism In If A Tree Falls
The films If a Tree Falls, Bidder 70, and Trinkets and Beads all exhibit some form of environmental
activism that goes against the generalized position on how the environment ought to be controlled
and dominated. For Daniel McGowan, his method was monkeywrenching; Tim De Christopher s
monkeywrenching and civil disobedience; Moi and the Huaorani holding to tradition. Activism
comes in all forms and these are just three examples. However, their activism points to a greater
issue.
In If a Tree Falls, we are introduced to the story of Daniel McGowan a member of the Earth
Liberation Front. Daniel started out as a regular guy growing up, but became radicalized through
the Wetlands Environmental Center. During this time, he became involved in the Earth Liberation
Front and had gained the alias the Disgruntled One because of his attitude. As he continued to
change and advance in the environmental movement, he became more accepting of the concept of
monkeywrenching. Dave Foreman says that monkeywrenching can be safe, it can be easy, it can
be fun... but it must be strategic, it must be thoughtful, it must be deliberate in order to succeed
(Foreman 192). For Edward Abbey, monkeywrenching references any act that seeks to preserve
the wilderness, and this included sabotage, activism, and law making. In Daniel s case, he and a
group of others conducted several arsons on various properties across the Pacific Northwest. As a
result, he and others whom were involved in the arsons were

Confederate Statues
Introduction:
As you requested, I am submitting this executive summary after going through the task force report
given to Gregory Fenves, the president of the University of Texas at Austin. The report provides
different alternatives regarding controversial Confederate statues on their campus. These options
will help us implement policies on our campus and allow us to avoid any protests.
Statuary Options:
The purpose of this report is to inform Fenves that statues have deeper meaning and they are part of
a history that defines our present. Changing and replacing monuments is disrespectful towards
donors, Texans and soldiers who died in the war. Looking over these sentiments and issues, the
Task Force came up with five options.
The first option was to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lee, Albert Sidney Johnston, and Woodrow Wilson except John Raegan. The benefit for this option
is that John Reagan supported the federal government, renounced secession from the United States
and allowed freed slaves to vote. But, Woodrow Wilson being the president of the United States,
removing his statue might cause controversy and protest.
The final option wanted to relocate all the statues and the advantages would be that the statues
were created as a set and together they will maintain the artistic balance and show greater respect
for single work of art. Some think that honoring them like this isn t right because they were part of
a movement which supported slavery and secession from the US.
Conclusion:
Each of the options comes with its own set of drawbacks; however, it is important to take into
account the students feelings and opinions of our statues. Our campus should use these options to
reconsider what statues we should remove or relocate. It is part of our campus history and we
should make the right decision to choose what represents us. The five options provide great
solutions and they should be applied as soon as

PROBLEM #1 A. The simulated function given in the Excel spreadsheet Hamptonshire Express:
Problem_#1 allows the user to find the optimal quantity of newspapers to be stocked at the newly
formed Hamptonshire Express Daily Newspaper. Anna Sheen estimated the daily demand of
newspapers to be on a normal standard distribution; stating that daily demand will have a mean of
500 newspapers per day with a standard deviation of 100 newspapers per day. Using the function
provided, the optimal stocking quantity, which maximizes expected profit, is determined to be
approximately 584 newspapers. If 584 newspapers were to be ordered, Hamptonshire Express will

To find the optimal profit level, you would set $10 = to the marginal benefit, or: $10= ((0.8 *50)
/ (2h)) and solve for H which = 4 hours. C. Using a table to compare the difference between
problem #1 and problem #2, respectively, we can see the obvious differences between the optimal
stocking quantity and daily expected profit figures.
| Stocking Quantity| Daily Expected Profit| 1| 584| 331.44| 2| 685| 371.33|
The stocking quantity and expected profits are higher in the second scenario because of the extra
time spent to improve the quality of profile section. By spending the extra time to improve the
profile section, Anna Sheen increased the overall quality of her newspaper, which will, most likely,
lead to an increased probability of demand for her newspaper around the area. This increased
demand will raise Anna Sheen s stocking quantity and the daily expected profits that are associated
with that individual stocking quantity.
Problem #3 A. Assuming the number of hours Anna Sheen will spend developing the profile
section will = 4; Ralph Armentrout s optimal stocking quantity is 516, as portrayed in the table
below: Stocking Quantity| Daily Expected Profit| 513| 62.131| 514| 62.139| 515| 62.143| 516|

Women s National Soccer Team
From a young age, children are conditioned to always think about what they want to be when
they grow up. Many of them dream to be a ballerina, firefighter, or an astronaut. With age comes
maturity, and those aspirations pass, but simultaneously new, more realistic ones arise. To reach
these new goals, these children work toward their dream through dedication, which can be seen in
the studying or training they do. In today s society females have more opportunity to do what
they dream. There are young women who are assiduously working to get a college degree and a
steady job. Then, there are also women who are training to become a professional athlete, with the
aspiration of becoming a member of the United StatesWomen s National Soccer Team (USWNT).
In today s society, women can pursue their goals, however, if compared to men s sports, there
can be differences seen that keep women from reaching full potential, equality, and their dreams.
An evident and popular difference is the wage gap between men and women, especially after five
members of the USWNT, filed a suit with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commision about a
violation of the Equal Pay Act. Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan, Hope Solo, Becky Sauerbrunn, and
Megan Rapinoe, later followed by Christian Press and Morgan Brian, have created a social
movement to end what they call gender discrimination. Five of the previously stated women,
expressed their opinions on the news show, 60 Minutes. They delve into why it is wrong

Religion Impact On Humans And World Views
This week was about religion impact on humans and world views, as matter of fact sometimes
they are both closely connected. Many of collectivistic countries, especially in Africa, are also
monotheistic. In class my professor said that many years ago, the big part of the world were
collectivistic, people cared more about each other and they were more family oriented. Currently,
both cultures individualistic and collectivistic are so distinct. One is family oriented, and the other
is self oriented. Looking closer, individualistic people are obviously humandoing because they are
always busy trying to figure out what the future holds for them. They work tirelessly to achieve
their goals which also take all time. In collectivistic culturealso, people are no longer different from
individualistic when it comes to time orientation. It is becoming more common that young people
are leaving their family house early than it used to be for different reasons, education or work. This
habit is becoming acceptable in our society because the education standards set on the labor market
are higher. As my country s government has set the masters degree, as the education level required
to get a job in most of governmental institutions, people are working hard to get their masters
degree and fit for the requirement.
This has pushed education seekers to aim higher as well. For a while now, people work hard to
provide for their family, and make it to school. It is possible and not easy. My

Edm On A Global Scale
EDM on a Global Scale
One of the benefits and reasons why people are so interested with EDM is that it is widely
available on the internet. YouTube channels, Facebook pages, websites, and every digital
medium available is or has been a location for popular EDM to be socially active with viewers.
This allows songs to gain prevalence in different areas of the world with out the geographic
locations impeding their connection. Each geographic location also has their own cultural
signature to EDM, influences usually point to past cultural movements or famous music that
came out of the area. For example Avicii, a Swedish electronic musician, DJ, and producer,
created a song, Malo which contained Spanish lyrics and created a large listener base that was in
the country of Spain. EDM has the ability to be produced with an audience in mind. This is
mainly because artists have the means of customizing a sound or song for a group of people just
by recreating the ideas and music of movements within that geographical location. By using similar
sounds and rhythms, EDM artists are able to capture the true nature of a country s signature. EDM
is a global and social community that is unlike a music genre ever seen before. Almost
instantaneously, people of world can find and listen to exactly what EDM they want to hear. People
can communicate to each other about the music and share the ideas of the art in a quick and

Virgin Atlantic Airline Current Status
Virgin Atlantic Airline Current Status Today Virgin Atlantic finds itself in a year of change. With a
new CEO at the helm, new aircraft arriving in the fall of 2014, and a new partnership, major
changes are underway. 2013 saw pay freezes for personnel, eliminating a layer of management,
redesign of food trays, and other cost cutting measures. The trend for 2014 has been to keep
tightening the financial belt and reign in the high cost draining the company s revenue. The
implementation of the new routes with Delta should support the financial turnaround and help
make Virgin Atlantic profitable again. Changes in Virgin Atlantic s operations are already starting.
Preparations for the new flight schedule is in the works. Delta has collocated its Heathrow
operations with Virgin Atlantic in Terminal 3 for all flights to Boston, New York, and Seattle to

The Body Rituals Of The Nacirema By Horace Miner
In the Body Rituals of the Nacirema, the author Horace Miner makes a very intriguing analysis of
the Nacirema culture and their beliefs. Throughout the course of the passage, we are able to see
how he closely observes the nacirema culture and tries to understand their living habits and daily
lives. Miner explains to us how their cultureconsists of unusual practices and almost magical rituals.
Of course, the work that occurs throughout the passage resembles the work that a cultural
anthropologist would do. A cultural anthropologist travels to different parts of the world in order to
observe and study a plethora of different cultures and their beliefs. In the beginning of the passage,
Miner explains how an anthropologist becomes accustomed to the peculiar traditions of different
cultures because they interact and closely examine them. It is this reason why I believe this article
would fall under the field of cultural anthropology. Cultural Anthropologyis defined as the study of
culture, traditions, and environment (Haviland, 2017). The passage allows us the opportunity to
closely examine the ways and traditional beliefs of the nacirema . For instance, in the passage
Miner states that the Nacirema loathe their physical appearance, The fundamental belief underlying
the whole system appears to be that the human body is ugly and that its natural tendency is to
debility and disease (Haviland, 2017). Horace Miner not only focuses on their beliefs but their

Exposing the Real Jasmine Essay examples
The prominent characteristic of postcolonial writing is the incorporation of writing back or
rewriting history into the narrative from the point of view of the colonized. Postcolonial narratives
speak out and attempt to expose the injustices of dominant culture often within their own cultural
system. Within this framework, many female authors give agency to the once silenced female voice
of the colonized. By employing their own narratives, many postcolonial female authors demystify
the prescribed ideologies thrust upon them by a patriarchal culturewhile at the same time expressing
their own sense of loss of cultural identity. Therefore, postcolonial literatureapplies a

In Hindu culture, the sex of a baby is more significant than in western cultures. In eastern
countries, boys are revered and cherished while girls are considered curses since being born a
girl brought to the father the burden of paying a dowry. This type of gender hierarchy is
exemplified in Mukherjee s novel by Jasmine s statement, I had a ruby red choker of a bruise
around my neck and a sapphire fingerprints on my collarbone after my birth. When I revealed this
to Taylor s wife, [...] she missed the point and shrieked at my foremothers [...]. My mother was a
sniper. She wanted to spare me the pain of a dowryless bride (Mukherjee 40). Mukherjee utilizes
Jasmine s nonchalant description of her near death experience coupled with her rationalization to
show that the brutal treatment of baby girls is a common occurrence in her culture. Conversely,
the reaction of Taylor s wife is a metaphor for the western perception that the conduct of Jasmine s
mother is a form of barbarism. By using Jasmine s birth, Mukherjee exposes the realties of a male
patriarchal society in which girls bring considered dilemmas to families.
Many postcolonial writers include how the natives land was overtaken by force and as a result, the
natives had to change their identity to conform to the colonial power. While Jasmine relates her
story about living in the native village Hasnapur, she tells the reader that she is married at the age
of fourteen

to Manderley because the past is still too close to her. The things that she and Maxim have tried
to put behind them would stir again . There would be a sense of fear, or furtive unrest, struggling
at length to blind unreasoning panic . I sense that the narrator yearns for something she can never
have again. She beings to talk about the current circumstances that prevent her from going back
such as the past is still too close to us . This suggests that she is looking forward to a time where
the past won t be too close because she indeed wants to return to Manderley. The extensive
description of Manderley in Chapter 1 also suggests that she felt more comfortable there as

a place and time where she didn t have such painful memories, and that was at Manderley.

Internal Revenue Service Policy
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is the revenue service of the United States federal government.
The government agency is a bureau of the Department of the Treasury, and is under the immediate
direction of the Commissioner of Internal Revenue. The IRS is responsible for collecting taxes and
the administration of the Internal Revenue Code. It has also overseen various benefit programs, and
enforces portions of the Affordable Care Act.
The first income tax was assessed in 1862 to raise funds for the American Civil War, with a rate of
3%. Today the IRS collects over $2.4 trillion each tax year. It processes around 234 million tax
returns annually.
Tax Free Insurance from IRS:
Employers payments covering premiums for employer sponsored health insurance are exempt from
federal income and payroll taxes. Any portion of premiums paid by the employee is typically
excluded from taxable income and is therefore also tax free, although some employers require
employees to pay their share of premiums out of after tax income. The exclusion of premiums
lowers most workers tax bills and thus reduces their after tax cost of health insurance coverage.

Integrating Technology Within The Classroom
Literature Review
In the last few decades, there has been a push for integrating technology within the classroom.
Technologies has become commonly associated with the activities of everyday life, as a result,
there has been increased pressure to include technology in classrooms, kindergarten through twelfth
grade since the 1980s. (page #?Grant et al., 2015). This technology push has only increased since
the last century; educators are no longer responsible for teaching the traditional reading, writing,
and arithmetic pedagogy of the past. In respect, students are no longer viewed in the same blank
slates, but as collaborators in their learning. This collaboration is effective in preparing students for
the job market of the future, in which these technologies will be ever present and constantly
changing.
In the 21st century, teachers and students have access to a constantly evolving series of
technologies which has facilitated a continued interest in how to use these types of technology in
educational environments. Through the incorporation of educational technology models and
theories, the practitioner s focus is specifically on how technology can be used to improve student
performance through processes, procedures, and tools. Processes and procedures may comprise any
task or intervention involving anything from a simple instructional strategy to a complex
instructional system.
(Wade et al., 2013).
However, successful integration of technology will only occur when

Support Vector Machines On Distributed Computers
PSVM: Parallelizing Support Vector Machines on Distributed Computers
Edward Y. Changв€

Google Research, Beijing, China
Abstract
Support Vector Machines (SVMs) suffer from a widely recognized scalability problem in both
memory use and computational time. To improve scalability, we have developed a parallel SVM
algorithm (PSVM), which reduces memory use through performing a row based, approximate
matrix factorization, and which loads only essential data to each machine to perform parallel
computation. Let n denote the number of training instances, p the reduced matrix dimension after
factorization (p is significantly smaller than n), and m the number of machines. PSVM reduces the
memory requirement from O(n2) to O(np/m), and improves computation time to O(np2/m).
Empirical study shows PSVM to be effective. PSVM Open Source is available for download at
http://code.google.com/p/psvm/.
1 Introduction
Let us examine the resource bottlenecks of SVMs in a binary classification setting to explain our
proposed solution. Given a set of training data X = {(xi, yi)|xi в€€ Rd}ni=1, where xi is an obser
vation vector, yi в€€ {в€’1,1} is the class label of xi, and n is the size of X, we apply SVMs on X
to train a binary classifier. SVMs aim to search a hyperplane in the Reproducing Kernel Hilbert
Space (RKHS) that maximizes the margin between the two classes of data in X with the smallest
train ing error (Vapnik, 1995). This

Pennell s Argument Analysis
After reading this issue, and making some research in the subject, I believe that this is not an
opinion article. The writer, Jay Pennell, did not state his position about the race and the NASCAR
restart rules. In fact, he just gave an overview of what happened at Talladega Superspeedway. So,
he cited the drivers opinions and comments about the race, and described what happened. It is,
indeed, a controversial issue but Pennel did not give his opinion. My general feeling about this
issue is that this problem seems to be something that has occurred before. It was not the first time
that a botched restart affected the outcome of the race. As a consequence, on October 20th, the
NASCAR made changes on the rules to reduce to one attempt instead of the customary three tries at
a green white checkered finish. I believe that Chamerond used the precise language and vocabulary.

So, it is a subject that he is confident about. He used the proper vocabulary and he asked

information that NASCAR have regarding restarts on races. How is it that this keeps happening
at different times during this NASCAR season? Also, why hasn t this been addressed some time
ago and will it be address now! On the other hand, I believe that one weakness is that he talked
about the issue like everyone knows about NASCAR. When I first read it, I did not understand
the article so much because I am not familiarized with the subject. So, I had to make some
research to fully understand it. That is why, I believe that you have to talk to your reader like he

The Importance of Justice in the Roman Games Essay
The Importance of Justice in the Roman Games
On top of justice is being done, we need to look at the functions of the games from the Romans
point of view. As Thomas Wiedemann says simply to give way to our emotions is not enough
(RB1, C11, P.101). Wiedemann wanted us to understand the ancient Romans beliefs and customs
in watching the games. Based from my reading materials, it was not true as the Roman games were
more than a medium of public entertainment. In this essay, I will look at the various aspects in
which the Roman games were not only about justice, drawing on a variety of sources to support
each claim.
Firstly, the Romans viewed the games as a form of entertainment. These ... Show more content on

Justice seems to be done as the Roman felt that these criminals deserved to die. Hence, it involved
more than justice. The emperor has spent a huge sum of money to build the Colosseum so as to
attract his people to watch the games. Ancient writer like Apuleius glorified the game shows as
public pleasure (RB1, C3, P.94). In other words, it possesses entertainment value for the Romans.
Thirdly, the games emphasized Roman power. It was a practical sign that Romans were proud of
their strength and stamina that made Rome great. To the Romans, it was a symbol of the ordered
world, the cosmos , and it was the emperor who was the guarantor of that order (RB1, C11, P.104).
However, Ciero s attitude towards gladiator shows was inhuman (RB1, C8, P.98). Thus, it was more
to encourage Romans cruelty and their courage shown at the games.
Fourthly, the games offered the brave a possibility of social rebirth. The Romans commended
bravery and a criminal gladiator may be granted life if he comes back alive as a victor. The
symbolism of public execution seemed to be deeply ingained in the Christian consciousness (RB1,
C11, P101 107). The decision to pardon brave and successful fighters was also a collective and
popular one, according to Wiedemann.
Next, the games acted as means of political networking (RB1, C4,

Comparing the Digestive Systems of Animals Essay
Comparing the digestive systems of Animals
Sophie Gaft (11) Biology
Question 1: A
Choose one animal from the list of carnivorous animals and one from the list of herbivorous
animals. Compare the structural differences between the two digestive systems.
Comparison of a rabbit and cat s digestive system.
Rabbit (Lepus curpaeums):
Unlike a cat, a rabbit eats a wide variety of plant material. They can process and extract nutrients
from many plants that are otherwise indigestible from other herbivores and omnivores.
A rabbit s digestive process, as with that of a cat, begins at the mouth. The front teeth of the rabbit

They have sharp teeth to rip and tear at their prey, as opposed to the rabbit, which does not have
canine teeth. In addition, a major contrast between the mouth cavity of the two animals, is the fact
that no amylase in their saliva. This is due to the fact that cats do not eat high carbohydrates in a
natural diet.
The pancreas of a rabbit secretes enzymes as the rabbit consumes a large amount of plant fiber and
starch. Cats consume very little of the mentioned, and therefore they have few starch processing
enzymes in their pancreas.
The gut alimentary canal is short in length and has a short transit time, which means that the guts
have little weight, and therefore aid the cat in being a fast predator.
The cat liver, as a contrast, is not very large relative to body size when compared to the enormous
liver of the rabbit. In addition to this, the cat liver does not tend to store carbohydrates.

Florida Fish Problems
The influence of the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulfstream in Southwest Florida Waters make the
temperature just right for literally hundreds of different kinds of fish. In 2011, Florida s recreational
anglers caught roughly 121 million marine fish, 74 million of which were released. These statistics
support the notion that fishingmay be one of the most loved hobbies. Since fishing efforts have
been drastically increasing over the years, dozens of species are threatened with extinction and
many more are experiencing serious population declines. In order to ensure that a fishs populations
will remain sustainable for future generations, anglers need regulations that will sustain the
existence of a fish population.

Pollution is a silent killer, because it takes expensive sampling and measurement to determine its

League Of Legends Essay Examples
League of Legends is a MOBA game that has grown quite largely in the past 10 years. It is a
game I have fell in love with and play with a passion. This game is a something I identify with.
Surely you must think to yourself, how can one identify with a game, especially an online game
that everyone plays? Well, it s not the gameitself, rather how it has grown on me. You can ask my
friends, they will tell you how much I talk about this game on a daily basis. I have turned into
someone who can t stop talking about it. The game mechanics itself to the stories behind each
character, it is something that is truly beloved to me. I am Jose Humberto Aguilar and I want to
make my future something that involves this game whether it s working for Riot Games, being a
professional player, or an entertainer, it doesn t matter to me. I lovethis game and I will love to do

the Lebron James or Kevin Hart of League of Legends. I want to be on the World stage and feel
that drive in my bones while people around me cheer and scream with passion. League of
Legends is my ambition, it s my passion. This game has also been part of my humbleness,

Wireless Deployment Plan
Wireless Deployment Plan Overview
The wireless deployment plan overview is to list out the requirements for the deployment of a
wireless infrastructure to a multi building campus for an education Institute. This campus has a
single campus but has many other buildings that are part of this one campus. There will be
several lands inside of this network and connecting them together we ll make this a win however
when it comes to Camp assist it is called a can which stands for campus area network. There are
many aspects to a wireless deployment phase and in the institution of a open network for the
campus there has to be something put in place to cover every area and to be able to give the

one to another with ease. We will also incorporate a repeater on the bottom floor to allow for full
building coverage and to extend the network throughout the campus itself. The Only Exception

students to be able to access specific training material and the library s internal architecture. The
equipment itself will be a very good Mount of switches and routers to allow for easy

Indian Camp Hemingway Essay
Ernest Hemingway s iconic and historic life throughout multiple well rounded short stories helped
represent his life in his way that the reader can discover and understand. In the short story, Indian
Camp , Nick Adams and his father along with his Uncle George, go out into the forest to an indian
camp to help deliver birth of a child, Nick s curiosity throughout the storyline eventually turns into
silence of not wanting to see any type of tragedy again. Throughout the short stories that Ernest
Hemingwaywrites, he includes many pieces of research that involve racism, sexism and coming of
age. For example, in Hemingway s short story, Indian Camp, Hemingway refers Native Americans
to being described as half breeds which is a racial slur... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Hermann Hesse s Siddhartha
As children the formalities posed upon us that our parents are with us since birth and to a
certain extent they will always be with us even when we part home. Our parents serve us are the
sole providers until we are able to fend for ourselves, when we part we look for them in times of
need. We seek them when we are sadden by a misfortunate casualty, not obtaining the raise at work
one hoped for or not being able to purchase the house you had been planning to live on. They are
there in moments of transition, moments of change to sooth us with a comforting pat in the back or
a graceful hug for the greater achievements in our lives like marrying your significant other. But
what happens when we decide to leave our parents nest with the mindset of no return, where do we
find comfort in times of change, who will be there? That is the transition the protagonist in the
novel Siddhartha by Hermann Hessedecides to make when he leaves the comfort of his home and
finds comfort in the flow of the river.
Just as our parents are with us since birth the river was with Siddhartha. The river was with him
since a young boy in the sunshine on the river bank by the boats... Siddhartha, the handsome
Brahmin s son, grew up with his friend Govinda (3). The river wasn t just part of his childhood
but it played a significant role in his religion. As the river was part of his morning holy ablutions
(3) it served as the proxy to his daily purification. Siddhartha s early exposure set up his

Hermit in Paris by Italo Calvino
Italo Calvino (2004) describes his perspective from a distance in Hermit in Paris ; from places he
has lived all throughout his life, the places where he has been a tourist, and a visitor. Calvino has
personal relationships with places and has a personal opinion where he believes Europe is
emerging into one single city(Calvino, 2004, p. 2). He is tolerant of other people s opinions and
continues to portray his own feelings rather than following others discretions. Most cities are
known through media and books and that s how people who have not experienced these cities see
the town. You need to escape spaces mentally and physically by connecting or disconnecting
yourself from a place that does not create happiness.
The first visit that I can recall such an impression was in my heritage landmark (Rawhiti) I got to
know what it is like was during my early teens when I attended an unveiling with my close
relations. I had imagined the place to be dirty and filthy, but it wasn t, it was just basic. I had
imagined Rawhiti through early distant memories as well as what I thought I knew from media
and movies of what remote coastal towns with a Maori population are like, I immediately
pictured the movie Boy (2010) as a similar setting to Rawhiti. I had a preconceived idea of what
the community is like, part of that community through family, but not personally as I had been
away from there all my life. To me, I had a false interpretation of this place; I used other people s

Art, Meaning And Artist s Meaning By Daniel O. Nathan
When people encounter an artwork and try to understand it, some would refer to the artist s
intention, but some may think it is not helpful. This interpretation is concerned as one essential
component of aesthetics, both in the philosophical perspective and in common sense. They two
kinds of people have their official name for what they believe. The debate here is about whether the
artist s intentioncan influence the interpretation of the art.
The intentionalists believe that artist s intention can either determine or impact the interpretation.
The anti intentionalists hold the opposite view, artist s intention should not be taken into
consideration in interpreting. In the discussion of this, there are some small variations within each
side, but we will stay with this definition for now.
Daniel O. Nathan is obviously an anti intentionalist. In his paper Art, Meaning and Artist s Meaning
, he demonstrated some vulnerabilities of the current anti intentionalism view, and then suggested
some new arguments and development on the basis of it. Some of them are not very plausible. I
will defend the intentionalist s view by evaluating some of Nathan s suggestions and point out the
weakness of it. I would first examine a suggestion regrading the convention of interpreting. The
second will be about the paradox of intention. Ideally this analysis would be illuminating to
intentionalism view.

Nonviolent Communication Essay
As a volunteer at the Palmer Munroe Teen Center I received the opportunity to return to the
community, in which I spent most of my childhood, and work with the at risk teens in the
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) Program. I volunteered twice a week for 12 weeks, helping to
teach teens new methods of handling conflict, recognizing, and understanding their own emotions.
By pairing one on one with a different teen each class, each teen had the chance to verbally release
their frustrations. After doing this, the teen and I would then search for a word that best described
the feeling that they were experiencing, and then deduce better ways they could have responded to
the situation. This experience is meaningful, firstly because I not only was a

Comparing Gospels And Pride And Prejudice
The Gospels, by unknown authors, and Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, are two very
different works. The former is a text crafted in order to spread Christianity around the world,
while the latter is a novel for noble women to read in their leisure during the Regency Era. The
two texts have some similarities, however, and the most poignant of these involve gossip and
rumor. Rumor is crucial to the characters in the Gospels and in Pride and Prejudicebecause it
becomes their news, their fact, their social status, their knowledge, and their power. Without it, the
characters would have no connection to each other or the world around them. Peoples lives
revolve around the gossip they hear and read in the two works, and the way this gossip... Show

The fact that something happened is not important unless it is recognized and glorified as such.
For example, Jesus acknowledges the importance of doing acts in front of others and therefore
spreading the rumor of those deeds when he says, I have said this for the sake of the crowd
standing here, so that they may believe you sent me (John 11, 42). This shows the need to
recognize something happening before it can become important. In Pride and Prejudice,
something is not acknowledged as an event unless it is talked about in front of others. For
example, Mrs. Bennet had to be sure to tell everyone that Bingley danced with Jane the most at
the ball, or else it would not have been recognized as an event (p. 8). Also, the ladies always have
to go Longbourn after a ball to discuss the evening s happenings with the Lucases so they can
gossip about the events of the evening, thus establishing them as important (p. 14). Not only is
recognizing something as an event essential in the works, but rumor can become the event itself.
In the Gospels, word, or rumor, becomes God. John opens with the line, In the beginning was the
Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1, 2). This shows that as people
spread the word, it not only informs people about God, but it becomes God

National Security Agency Values
We all value our privacy, and we all know that privacy can conflict with other important social
values. However, in this increasingly digital and technological world, we are more susceptible than
ever to government intrusion of our digital communications and data. This came to light in June
2013, when former National Security Agency (NSA) employee Edward Snowden revealed
thousands of classified documents detailing the intrusive mass surveillanceand bulk data collection
of the NSA to journalists and subsequently the American public. As a result, widespread distrust and
questioning of the American government s data collection programs grew among American citizens
and bipartisan leaders who were also subject to the surveillance apparatus of the... Show more

Hardline conservatives like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell opposed the Freedom Act as
they defended mass surveillance as a crucial means of counterterrorism and maintaining national
security. They also thought that the act would make the U.S. vulnerable to more terrorist attacks, as
it would slow down the ability of the NSA and other agencies to lawfully acquire information
necessary to counterterrorism efforts. Although also against the Freedom Act, liberals like Bernie
Sanders opposed the act for different reasons. Strong privacy supporters like Sanders denounced
the act for not doing enough for privacy rights and argued that it would have been a better
alternative to have allowed the Patriot Act and Section 215 to sunset and expire in order for a

Analysis Of The Movie The Dark Night Rises
The Dark Night Rises July 20th 2012 held the midnight premiere of the anticipated film, The
Dark Night Rises, this night was also the premiere of an idea in my head, that I passionately
hated guns. The Aurora shooting was a massacre that carved a deep impression on my beliefs in
relation to guns and even more so, the moral people. It was after that incident that I began to see
America s ethical spine for what it really was, bent and partially broken. As the ethical backbone of
this country continues to twist and curve in uncomfortable directions, I fear the safety of the future.
A dark night did rise in that midnight hour and continues to do so with every incident and
heartbreak this country endures. Life is no longer sacred, hope is deferred and this nation is lost
searching for a solution. Guns have become somewhat of an arch nemesis to many in this country.
There is only one implication that guns reveal, and that is death. To possess, to use, to practice with
a gunis to imply that one intends to inflict bodily harm on another and although in some cases this
intention may be good, in most, it is not. Even in the hands of those who assume the duty to
protect this country, are questioned on whether or not using a gun was the right decision. If a
police officer can be found guilty of misuse of a firearm; men and women who have trained and
practiced physically and mentally on how to operate a gun, how then can a normal citizen expect to
use one correctly? American is

Ultra High Performance Concrete ( Uhpc )
1.Introduction
Ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) represents a major progress step over normal strength
concrete (NSC) and high strength concrete (HSC), through the achievement of very high strength
and very low permeability. Basically, the UHPC is a concrete with compressive strength ranging
120 to 400 MPa, this ultra high strength is achieved through different techniques including the use
of improved materials, ultra fine pozzolans (e.g. silica fume), low water cement ratio, improved
quality and higher dosage of superplasticizer, use of fibers (metallic or synthetic) to increase the
energy absorption capacity and decrease brittleness, high cementitious materials content, longer
mixing time and heat treatment [1]. UHPC tensile strength varies from 10 to 30 MPa; and the
modulus of elasticity is in the range of 60 100 GPa [2].
Using UHPC in the construction of new bridges and the renewal of existing highway bridge
network can minimize maintenance requirement in the construction of new long life bridges
resulting in low life cycle costs [3].
Despite its exceptional material properties, UHPC s initial construction cost is significantly higher
than that of normal strength concrete (NSC), which limited its use in North America and elsewhere.
To address some of the challenges facing bridge owners, the structural efficiency and cost
effectiveness of using UHPC in composite construction is investigated in this paper. Therefore,
combining NSC with UHPFRC in a composite

Hacking Can Not Be Ethical
Hacking cannot be considered ethical due to the fact that it damages a company s reputation.
Hackers have no care in the world about the negatives that happen to you. They may not have
anything against you but what you stand for. Erickson was the owner of a website known for
political debates was hacked and his page on which he spent thousands of dollars on was hacked
by Anonymous and became malicious. Erickson spent $1,500 to rebuild his site with enhanced
security measures. He also spent a considerable amount of time with Google s appeals process to
get his site relisted a process that took 3 months. (KAVILANZ, PARIJA. Hacked by
Anonymous. CNNMoney. Cable News Network, 29 May 2013. Web. 20 Mar. 2015.) When you
are targeted by cyber terrorists they don t aim to just make a statement. They are there to hurt
you. They demoralize the things you treasure and make all your prized possessions worthless.
To build a website is not a cheap and easy process. Without prior knowledge of web development
you need to hire a web developer in order to do the work for you which can in turn cost you
thousands of dollars. Erickson then had to rehire web devs and network analysts to get his entire
web page restructured with better security. No one can say for sure who will be next. Many of
these attacks can be very random and seemingly pointless, however, these hackergroups are still out
there in the world doing what they seem to do best. Anonymous as you can note is one of the top

Raymund Maximilian Kolbe Thesis
What is a saint? A saint is a person of great holiness, who has performed miracles for God s
cause. What is a martyr? A martyr is someone who dies for what they believe in, just like
Maximilian Kolbe. Raymund Maximilian Kolbe was born January 8, 1894. He was born in
Zdunska Wola, in Poland. Both parents, Marianna and Juliusz, were very holy, and dedicated
much of their time and money to teach their children about the catholic faith. (Gale BIC, 2)
They were both poor weavers, who traded with Jewish merchants. From a young age,
Maximilian was very fond of his faith. He enjoyed church, and loved to pray. In 1907, Max and
his brothers decided to move to an all boys Franciscan school. Their mother was supportive of
this decision, because she wanted to shield the boys from the other sex. When he turned sixteen
in 1910, he was going to join the army, but his mother thought he was fit for the priesthood.
(Gale BIC, 4) So, Kolbe relented, and in 1912, arrived in Rome, and spend the next seven years

  • 3. David And Goliath Compare And Contrast In the poem Casey at Bat and story David and Goliath, a comparison of David and Casey shows differences and similarities. In the story David and Goliath , David is similar to Casey from Casey at the Bat because David isn t afraid to lose just like Casey. The text states that David was a sheep tender, and Casey was a baseball player, their both different but they had one goal, to win! They both were supposed to win anyway. Another way Casey from Casey at the Bat , and David from David and Goliath are similar is because they are both boys. They are both boys because the text states that David was a boy, because who would name their girl David, and Casey is a boy because girls do not play baseball. This is a fact because people have been to baseball games and seen that they are boys, girls play softball, boys play baseball.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The text states that Casey s goal was to hit the ball and not let his whole town down, and David s goal was to kill the giant who was threatening his army and town because he said, ВЁGod will protect me.ВЁ This is because David and Goliath were very different people with two of the same goals, 1 to defeat the other opponent, 2 was to make their kingdom happy. In addition, one of the differences between David from and ВЁDavid and GoliathВЁ and Casey from Casey at the BatВЁ is that David is from the bible and Casey is a baseball player. This is known because the poem we read in class about Casey is that he is a baseball player because baseball is the only game that uses a bat. (and softball (female version of baseball) is too.) Also, David is from the bible because people have read this story in the bible, so they are both different characters. The second difference between Casey and David is that David is a young boy, and Casey was a man when he was playing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Macbeth Feminist Play Analysis Generally, Macbeth is thought of as Shakespeare s most feminist play. With a supposedly powerful female character and an inversion of gender roles, it is easy to see how this idea came into being. However, it is totally wrong. Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, is a play about an ambitious nobleman who would go to any measure to become king and retain that position after receiving a prophecy from three witches. At first, he is unwilling to resort to violence to become king but his wife, Lady Macbeth, manipulates him into doing so. Once the first murder is complete, he has found a thirst for killing and continues to kill various people until he is eventually killed and the rightful king takes his place. The claims of this being a feminist play stem from Lady Macbeth s character and her relationship with Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is violent and evil, while Macbeth is originally too kind, showing a gender rolereversal. Even so, there are many problematic aspects of Macbeth that completely negate the few progressive components in Shakespeare s writing. Macbeth is a misogynist play because it promotes strict genderroles, gender non conforming women are demonized and seen as responsible for men s problems, and by the second half of the play, any innovative gender role reversals are themselves reversed. To begin with, Macbeth promotes very strict gender roles, with women and femininity being associated with fear and weakness, and men and manliness being associated with power ... • 5. How Is Loss Used In Mid Term Break How is Loss Experienced in the poems Mid Term Break and November? In both the poems November, by Simon Armitage and Mid Term Break, by Seamus Heaney, the persona is compelled into that position. They both describe loss as a traumatic experience, which the persona tries to detach themselves from in order to accept the reality. In November, the persona is burdened with guilt and self blame. Realising that the situation is inevitable illuminates his fears of ageing and death. Mid Term Break is an autobiographical poem where the persona (Seamus Heany) maintains a very formal and distant tone in order to push aside his overwhelming grief. Heaney places the powerful monostich at the end, which intensifies the sombre mood into a powerful shock to the audience. Comparing a four foot box with a foot for every year doesn t only tell the audience how brief his brother s life was, but also highlights Heaney s realisation of this harsh, inescapable horror. By rhyming the phrase bumper knocked him clear with his age on the monostich links the fragility of the child to the powerful effect on the audience and family. This reminds the persona and the audience that the impact isn t only on the child, but also on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Attitude And Death Of Ancient Greece Attitude to Death. Greek Background: Ancient Greece was a civilization that existed from the 8th 6th Century BC, also called the Archaic Period, to the end of antiquity, around 600 AD. It is most famous for its philosophers, artwork and mythology. They worshiped their deities such as Zeus, Hades and Poseidon.... Their major demise came at the hands of the Macedonians in 338 BC after Greece had been weakened by the Peloponnesian War. A war between the Spartans and the Athenians leaving the Spartans victorious but exhausted of their resources and men. Attitude to Dying: Death for the Greeks was not such a simple process. Seeing as they believed so firmly in the afterlife death was not really feared, rather life was cherished. As shown by this quote. I d rather be a day laborer on earth working for a man of little property than lord of all the hosts of the dead. Achilles in the Iliad. Upon death the psyche or soul left the body as a little breath or puff of wind. The body would then undergo a time honored burial ritual. The ritual was split into two parts. The prothesis, the laying out of the body. The ekphora, the funeral procession. And the interment of the body or cremated remains of the deceased. During this process the ancient Greeks placed coins in the deceased s mouth and tied a strap around the head and jaw to keep it closed. These coins served as the toll for the ferry across the river Styx. During this time, people viewed the body and placed flowers or other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Pyramus And Thisbe Vs. Romeo And Juliet Kevin Lord Josue Prof. Elizabeth Fogle CAMS 045 Final Paper/Final Draft August 15, 2014 Pyramus Thisbe vs. Romeo Juliet Tragic love stories have always been appealing to the literary world. This would be seen in Ovid s Pyramus and Thisbe and William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet . Ovid, one of Rome s greatest poets, was famous for The Metamorphoses. His love stories were deeply emotional, yet very tragic. The story of Pyramus and Thisbe is the most emotional story in The Metamorphoses and the most referenced in love tragedy. William Shakespeares best plays were his tragedies, starting with Hamlet all the way through to Macbeth. No one knows exactly which source Shakespeare directly drew from to create the well known tragic romance, Romeo and Juliet , but it s pretty clear that somewhere along the way there was some major influence from Pyramus and Thisbe. Both stories, although written in different era share one key theme: love and tragedy. We fall in love and when once we do something rare and beautiful is created. Unfortunately not all love stories have happy endings. The lesson learned in both Pyramus and Thisbe and Romeo and Juliet stories will be the focus of this essay. Pyramus and Thisbe were lovers whose houses side by side to each other. They were considered so beautiful that If you searched all the East, you d find no girl with greater charm than Thisbe; and no boy in Babylon was handsomer than Pyramus (Ovid 111). • 13. The Pros And Cons Of Retrenchment Business The business should at any point of time, prepare for plant closing and retrenchment of the employee, even if they are doing well. They can start by having a clearly defined policy about retrenchment, including being transparent and stating its benefits. Under the Employment Act, employees who have worked with the company for at least two years can request for the retrenchment benefits. The amount that is to be paid to the employee is not fixed and the employer is not compelled to do so, therefore, it would be left for the employer and employee to negotiate. However, the practice in Singapore is that for every year of service by the employee, the employer would pay one month of salary. This would reduce the possibility of the retrenched employee, bringing the case to the ministry. As per Ministry of Manpower guidelines, the employer must give notice and offer the retrenchment benefits to those employees that are eligible (Ministry Of Manpower 2015). The union would also need to be inform and if the notice period is not stated in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main reason for companies to retrench workers is likely to be because of cost cutting measures due to financial difficulties and up till the extent of plant closing. However, retrenchment still takes place, in employment assistance to the retrenched employees, the union can first help to negotiate the quantum payments, the retrenchment and/or additional benefits for affected workers (Today Online 2013). If we break out the third octet displaying the binary values for each bit space this is how it would be displayed. 128 | 64 | 32 | 16 | 8 | 4 | 2 | 1 This is our class C after applying CIDR notation. 128 | 64 | 32 | 16 | 8 | 4 | 2 / 0 = 254By borrowing the one bit we have changed our subnet mask from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.254.0. The next step is to determine what our Network ID s will be, and what our usable hosts will be. This is done by going back to the binary. There are 8 bits in each octet which is in base 2 the numerical value of the binary numbers. This is equal to 28 or 256. When we borrow the one bit from the third octet we are now adding that one bit to the original eight this changes our binary value from 8 bits to 9 bits which is equal to 29 or 512. This means that we will now have 512 IP Addresses per subnet, and if we apply the formula 2n 2 this will give us 510 usable hosts per subnet. We can then take this same formula without the minus 2 to calculate the number of subnets that we will obtain from this calculation. There are still seven on bits to the left in this octet. This is equal to 27 or 128. This means that will obtain 128 subnets with this CIDR calculation. It is speculated that, in 2023, 73 Million people will be covered by Medicare and it will cost them a monumental $1.1 Trillion. The overuse of medical facilities has more than one detrimental consequence. The frequent use of the same vaccines and medicines will cause new bacteria and viruses to be formed and old ones to mutate and grow more resistant to our medicines, damaging everyone in the long run. A general reform of medical care in America won t work very well because it s not as much a bureaucratic issue as it is a general perception of the people. It needs to be taught to the general public that some diseases should stay home and be cured through your own means and to stay out of a hospital if you aren t sick. The idea of going to a public hospital every time you feel funny is unrealistic. • 16. Green Man Flashing Essay Green Man Flashing is a play written by Mike van Graan and it is a story about a woman named Gabby Anderson who is sexually assaulted by her high profile black boss. This story explores her life before the assault and after. It has moments of flashbacks and is a reverse chronology where the play starts at the end. GreenMan Flashing is a contemporary political piece because it explores modern racism, universal eternal ideologies and the styles of flashbacks and simultaneous scenes are used. Racism is an ideology that would always be a part of life however racism now is different to the racism back then. Racism now is a very controversial idea; where issues like black people not being racist but white people are racist are explored. In Green ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mike van Graan uses the style of flashbacks to tell the story because it shows that we all have to go back to the past to grow as a person. This style of flashbacks also falls part of the idea of reminiscing; that we all have a story to tell. The other style used is simultaneous scenes. This style is modern because it adds to the idea of life not being how we want it to be. Life does not really have a certain beginning and end; yes we are born and we die but when we choose is up to us and when where we choose to die, give up, is also up to us. A great example of a simultaneous scene would be scene 14 when Anna, Gabbys best friend, and Aaron are having a conversation but also Gabby and Inspector Abrahams, Gabbys detective, are also having a conversation. Mike van Graan couldn t literally make the scenes simultaneous but he did make sure that he mentions that they are happening at the same time to show normal conversation. The other choice of style Mike van Graan chose is that of not re enacting some scenes and this makes this modern because it shows that whatever happened has happened. South African back then used to dwell on many things such as pain but nowadays being sad is not part of the plan, mourning is not given time. Aaron and Gabby do not give themselves time to deal with their son s death whereas if it was back then it would have been a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Activism In If A Tree Falls The films If a Tree Falls, Bidder 70, and Trinkets and Beads all exhibit some form of environmental activism that goes against the generalized position on how the environment ought to be controlled and dominated. For Daniel McGowan, his method was monkeywrenching; Tim De Christopher s monkeywrenching and civil disobedience; Moi and the Huaorani holding to tradition. Activism comes in all forms and these are just three examples. However, their activism points to a greater issue. In If a Tree Falls, we are introduced to the story of Daniel McGowan a member of the Earth Liberation Front. Daniel started out as a regular guy growing up, but became radicalized through the Wetlands Environmental Center. During this time, he became involved in the Earth Liberation Front and had gained the alias the Disgruntled One because of his attitude. As he continued to change and advance in the environmental movement, he became more accepting of the concept of monkeywrenching. Dave Foreman says that monkeywrenching can be safe, it can be easy, it can be fun... but it must be strategic, it must be thoughtful, it must be deliberate in order to succeed (Foreman 192). For Edward Abbey, monkeywrenching references any act that seeks to preserve the wilderness, and this included sabotage, activism, and law making. In Daniel s case, he and a group of others conducted several arsons on various properties across the Pacific Northwest. As a result, he and others whom were involved in the arsons were ... Confederate Statues Introduction: As you requested, I am submitting this executive summary after going through the task force report given to Gregory Fenves, the president of the University of Texas at Austin. The report provides different alternatives regarding controversial Confederate statues on their campus. These options will help us implement policies on our campus and allow us to avoid any protests. Statuary Options: The purpose of this report is to inform Fenves that statues have deeper meaning and they are part of a history that defines our present. Changing and replacing monuments is disrespectful towards donors, Texans and soldiers who died in the war. Looking over these sentiments and issues, the Task Force came up with five options. The first option was to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lee, Albert Sidney Johnston, and Woodrow Wilson except John Raegan. The benefit for this option is that John Reagan supported the federal government, renounced secession from the United States and allowed freed slaves to vote. But, Woodrow Wilson being the president of the United States, removing his statue might cause controversy and protest. The final option wanted to relocate all the statues and the advantages would be that the statues were created as a set and together they will maintain the artistic balance and show greater respect for single work of art. Some think that honoring them like this isn t right because they were part of a movement which supported slavery and secession from the US. Conclusion: Each of the options comes with its own set of drawbacks; however, it is important to take into account the students feelings and opinions of our statues. Our campus should use these options to reconsider what statues we should remove or relocate. It is part of our campus history and we should make the right decision to choose what represents us. To reach these new goals, these children work toward their dream through dedication, which can be seen in the studying or training they do. Many of collectivistic countries, especially in Africa, are also monotheistic. In class my professor said that many years ago, the big part of the world were collectivistic, people cared more about each other and they were more family oriented. Currently, both cultures individualistic and collectivistic are so distinct. One is family oriented, and the other is self oriented. Looking closer, individualistic people are obviously humandoing because they are always busy trying to figure out what the future holds for them. They work tirelessly to achieve their goals which also take all time. In collectivistic culturealso, people are no longer different from individualistic when it comes to time orientation. It is becoming more common that young people are leaving their family house early than it used to be for different reasons, education or work. This habit is becoming acceptable in our society because the education standards set on the labor market are higher. In the beginning of the passage, Miner explains how an anthropologist becomes accustomed to the peculiar traditions of different cultures because they interact and closely examine them. It is this reason why I believe this article would fall under the field of cultural anthropology. Cultural Anthropologyis defined as the study of culture, traditions, and environment (Haviland, 2017). In eastern countries, boys are revered and cherished while girls are considered curses since being born a girl brought to the father the burden of paying a dowry. Changв€ —, Kaihua Zhu, Hao Wang, Hongjie Bai, Jian Li, Zhihuan Qiu, Hang Cui Google Research, Beijing, China Abstract Support Vector Machines (SVMs) suffer from a widely recognized scalability problem in both memory use and computational time. To improve scalability, we have developed a parallel SVM algorithm (PSVM), which reduces memory use through performing a row based, approximate matrix factorization, and which loads only essential data to each machine to perform parallel computation. Let n denote the number of training instances, p the reduced matrix dimension after factorization (p is significantly smaller than n), and m the number of machines. PSVM reduces the memory requirement from O(n2) to O(np/m), and improves computation time to O(np2/m). Empirical study shows PSVM to be effective. PSVM Open Source is available for download at http://code.google.com/p/psvm/. 1 Introduction Let us examine the resource bottlenecks of SVMs in a binary classification setting to explain our proposed solution. Given a set of training data X = {(xi, yi)|xi в€€ Rd}ni=1, where xi is an obser vation vector, yi в€€ {в€’1,1} is the class label of xi, and n is the size of X, we apply SVMs on X to train a binary classifier. My general feeling about this issue is that this problem seems to be something that has occurred before. It was not the first time that a botched restart affected the outcome of the race. Fast Car by Tracy Chapman Fast Car, originally composed and performed by Tracy Chapman in 1988, is a contemporary song that has captured the hearts of audiences of all ages around the world for decades. In this piece, the persona takes the listener on not only a physical, but also on an emotional and imaginative journey, as she tells us her story of desperate hope to escape the place she lives in order to make a better life for herself elsewhere, and the obstacles she must overcome to do so. Through this text, Chapman effectively communicates that searching for something better is often the reason we embark on a journey, as well as exploring the fact that taking a physical journey does not always mean that we escape the problems that exist in our life. • 37. The Importance of Justice in the Roman Games Essay The Importance of Justice in the Roman Games On top of justice is being done, we need to look at the functions of the games from the Romans point of view. As Thomas Wiedemann says simply to give way to our emotions is not enough (RB1, C11, P.101). Wiedemann wanted us to understand the ancient Romans beliefs and customs in watching the games. Based from my reading materials, it was not true as the Roman games were more than a medium of public entertainment. In this essay, I will look at the various aspects in which the Roman games were not only about justice, drawing on a variety of sources to support each claim. Firstly, the Romans viewed the games as a form of entertainment. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Justice seems to be done as the Roman felt that these criminals deserved to die. Hence, it involved more than justice. The emperor has spent a huge sum of money to build the Colosseum so as to attract his people to watch the games. Ancient writer like Apuleius glorified the game shows as public pleasure (RB1, C3, P.94). In other words, it possesses entertainment value for the Romans. Thirdly, the games emphasized Roman power. It was a practical sign that Romans were proud of their strength and stamina that made Rome great. To the Romans, it was a symbol of the ordered world, the cosmos , and it was the emperor who was the guarantor of that order (RB1, C11, P.104). However, Ciero s attitude towards gladiator shows was inhuman (RB1, C8, P.98). Thus, it was more to encourage Romans cruelty and their courage shown at the games. Fourthly, the games offered the brave a possibility of social rebirth. The Romans commended bravery and a criminal gladiator may be granted life if he comes back alive as a victor. The symbolism of public execution seemed to be deeply ingained in the Christian consciousness (RB1, C11, P101 107). The decision to pardon brave and successful fighters was also a collective and popular one, according to Wiedemann. Next, the games acted as means of political networking (RB1, C4, ... They two kinds of people have their official name for what they believe. The debate here is about whether the artist s intentioncan influence the interpretation of the art. The intentionalists believe that artist s intention can either determine or impact the interpretation. The anti intentionalists hold the opposite view, artist s intention should not be taken into consideration in interpreting. In the discussion of this, there are some small variations within each side, but we will stay with this definition for now. Daniel O. Nathan is obviously an anti intentionalist. In his paper Art, Meaning and Artist s Meaning , he demonstrated some vulnerabilities of the current anti intentionalism view, and then suggested some new arguments and development on the basis of it. Some of them are not very plausible. I will defend the intentionalist s view by evaluating some of Nathan s suggestions and point out the weakness of it. The former is a text crafted in order to spread Christianity around the world, while the latter is a novel for noble women to read in their leisure during the Regency Era. The two texts have some similarities, however, and the most poignant of these involve gossip and rumor. Rumor is crucial to the characters in the Gospels and in Pride and Prejudicebecause it becomes their news, their fact, their social status, their knowledge, and their power. Without it, the characters would have no connection to each other or the world around them. Peoples lives revolve around the gossip they hear and read in the two works, and the way this gossip... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact that something happened is not important unless it is recognized and glorified as such. For example, Jesus acknowledges the importance of doing acts in front of others and therefore spreading the rumor of those deeds when he says, I have said this for the sake of the crowd standing here, so that they may believe you sent me (John 11, 42). This shows the need to recognize something happening before it can become important. In Pride and Prejudice, something is not acknowledged as an event unless it is talked about in front of others. For example, Mrs. Bennet had to be sure to tell everyone that Bingley danced with Jane the most at the ball, or else it would not have been recognized as an event (p. 8). Also, the ladies always have to go Longbourn after a ball to discuss the evening s happenings with the Lucases so they can gossip about the events of the evening, thus establishing them as important (p. 14). Not only is recognizing something as an event essential in the works, but rumor can become the event itself. In the Gospels, word, or rumor, becomes God. Ultra High Performance Concrete ( Uhpc ) 1.Introduction Ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) represents a major progress step over normal strength concrete (NSC) and high strength concrete (HSC), through the achievement of very high strength and very low permeability. Basically, the UHPC is a concrete with compressive strength ranging 120 to 400 MPa, this ultra high strength is achieved through different techniques including the use of improved materials, ultra fine pozzolans (e.g. silica fume), low water cement ratio, improved quality and higher dosage of superplasticizer, use of fibers (metallic or synthetic) to increase the energy absorption capacity and decrease brittleness, high cementitious materials content, longer mixing time and heat treatment [1]. UHPC tensile strength varies from 10 to 30 MPa; and the modulus of elasticity is in the range of 60 100 GPa [2]. Using UHPC in the construction of new bridges and the renewal of existing highway bridge network can minimize maintenance requirement in the construction of new long life bridges resulting in low life cycle costs [3]. Despite its exceptional material properties, UHPC s initial construction cost is significantly higher than that of normal strength concrete (NSC), which limited its use in North America and elsewhere. To address some of the challenges facing bridge owners, the structural efficiency and cost effectiveness of using UHPC in composite construction is investigated in this paper.
