Annotated Bibliography Death And Dying Analysis
Annotated Bibliography: Death and Dying
Corr, C. A., Corr, D. M., Bordere, T. C. (2013). Death dying, life living. Belmont, CA: Wadsworth,
Cengage Learning.
According to Corr, Corr, and Bordere (2013), death is a term that is used to indicate one s end of life,
while dying is the process that one undergoes before he or she loses his or her life. The author talks
the reader the numerous aspects of death and dying, as well as bereavement. This book incorporates
classical and modern material, contemporary task based methods for a person or family coping with
death. The article is divided into sub sections including introduction chapters and conclusion chapters,
which revolve around the subject of death and how people, including relatives of the deceased,
survive. There are four chapters in this book which explain how children, teenagers, young, and
middle aged adults cope with death. From this point of view, it is clear that this book discusses various
aspects of religious and cultural perspective that affects one s understanding as well as the practices
associated with death.
Even though death is inevitable, it is quite clear that people can devise methods under which they can
cope with the loss of their loved ones; for instance, their immediate relatives if not friends. Drawing
practical guidelines from this book, one can constructively come up with communication strategies
that may have encouragement to those who have lost their loved ones. This initiative encourages

My First Year Of College
Senior year in high school, I thought I had everything figured out. At the time, I was in a program
called PSEO where I was able to go to college while I was in high school. Being a first generation
college student I didn t know how serious this first year of college would affect the rest of my college
career. I should have taken that first year seriously. I thought that I would graduate high school and
attend a 4 year university and graduate to go to optometry school. As a planning type, I had everything
in place. Until my cousin s grandma passed away, I grew up with them living a walking block away. I
was shocked and reflected on my life that I have planned out for myself. After graduating high school
packed up my things and headed out west to San Jose, California to move in with my grandparents. I
wanted to spend as much time with them while I attended a local community college called DeAnza. I
was surrounded by people who could care less about anyone else but themselves. I didn t fit, but I
stayed to be with my grandparents for the rest of the quarter. As the quarter went by so did my bank
account, I had no option but to go home to Minnesota. Once I got back to Minnesota I got a job of
being an optometric technician working side by side with the doctor. After 6 months of working there
I could not see myself as an optometrist. I attended Normandale Community College temporarily until
I knew what my next steps would be but I ended up leaving Normandale with an Associate

Three Major Causes of Soil Erosion and How They Can Be...
Introduction
Soil erosion is one form of soil degradation along with soil compaction, low organic matter, loss of
soil structure, poor internal drainage, salinisation, and soil acidity problems. These other forms of soil
degradation, serious in themselves, usually contribute to accelerated soil erosion.
Soil erosion is a naturally occurring process on all land. The agents of soil erosion are water and wind,
each contributing a significant amount of soil loss each year in Ontario.
Soil erosion may be a slow process that continues relatively unnoticed, or it may occur at an alarming
rate causing serious loss of topsoil. The loss of soil from farmland may be reflected in reduced crop
production potential, lower surface water quality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plant and residue cover protects the soil from raindrop impact and splash, tends to slow down the
movement of surface runoff and allows excess surface water to infiltrate.
The erosion reducing effectiveness of plant and/or residue covers depends on the type, extent and
quantity of cover. Vegetation and residue combinations that completely cover the soil, and which
intercept all falling raindrops at and close to the surface and the most efficient in controlling soil (e.g.
forests, permanent grasses ). Partially incorporated residues and residual roots are also important as
these provide channels that allow surface water to move into the soil.
The effectiveness of any crop, management system or protective cover also depends on how much
protection is available at various periods during the year, relative to the amount of erosive rainfall that
falls during these periods. In this respect, crops which provide a food, protective cover for a major
portion of the year (for example, alfalfa or winter cover crops) can reduce erosion much more than can
crops which leave the soil bare for a longer period of time (e.g. row crops) and particularly during
periods of high erosive rainfall (spring and summer). However, most of the erosion on annual row
crop land can be reduced by leaving a residue cover greater than 30% after harvest and over the winter
months, or by inter seeding a forage crop (e.g. red

The Inequalities of Income Investment Growth
In Economic Elites, Investments, and Income Inequality from the academic journal, Social Forces,
graduate Ph. D student from Ohio State University, Michael Nau presents throughout his study the rise
of an additional factor that has evidently influenced the concentration of vast amounts of income
among the elite class, income from investments. In this era, the common beliefs were that
demography, labor market institutions, and technology were causing the inequality to rise and for the
elites to produce this astounding amounts of income. Nau s findings present how the debate over the
incomes of the elites has to be expanded apart from the working rich class to also include the income
producing wealth. In addition, Nau presents how the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research Methods:
The Federal Reserve Board s Survey of Consumer Finances (SCF) was the study used on this article
for its main analysis. This survey dates from the 1992 to 2010, and includes the information of
household income, wealth holding, and other financial topics. In addition, the survey includes a
subsample of the most affluent households, and groups them into different categories according to
their wealth. However, the edge key that makes the SCF better than other surveys is the fact that it has
more information when it comes to the different financial situations of the elites. As a result, the SCF
is considered by many experts in the field of finance as one of the best sources on the wealth and
investment behavior of the citizens in the United States.
This SCF survey serves the purpose of being the main method used in this article to test the
hypotheses presented by the author. For instance, to test the first hypothesis, that income concentration
at the top was driven by investment gains, the SCF tracks the top one percent s investment income.
Moreover, to test the second hypothesis, which top income households increasingly took on the
characteristics and behavior of investors, the status indicators of a variety of investors had to be
defined by measures such as if the household obtains ninety percent of his income from investment or
if their financial assets were

Social Cost
The Social Costs of Academic Success across Ethnic Groups is a study conducted by Thomas E.
Fuller Rowell and Stacy N. Doan in 2010. The main intention behind this research was to explore the
long term comparison between academic achievement and social acceptance across different ethnic
groups in a sample of adolescents. In order to find out the race/ethnicities as well as social acceptance
of the participants they conducted in home interviews. In order to find the GPA, they utilized self
reports. The results of this research show that social acceptance is positively correlated with GPA.
African Americans and Native Americans adolescents have a bigger social cost with academic success
than White adolescents do. These findings also suggested that students of Mexican decent also show
different social costs within their achievement.
This research article possessed many strengths. The authors did an exceptional job in including all
factors such as gender, SES, ethnicity, minority groups, single parent families, school and
neighborhood disadvantages in regards to its correlation with academic success. The authors also did a
good job in providing support on other studies in order to make their hypotheses more credible.
Another aspect of the research that I found to be a strength is the ... Show more content on

The Effects Of Vaccination On Children And Children
published a controversial study in British journal Lancet where he linked MMR vaccination to autism.
(Should I include what his study was based on and results?) Years later, many other studies proved it
wrong but mistrust of science and mistrust of government is still there (2011). For example, Phea Paul
study stated that there is no evidence that autism is cause by any vaccine and therefore no reason for
parents to deny a child protection in today s vaccines offered (2009). His study shows that if
comparing risks mathematically of death or disability as a result of not vaccination a child which are
small, to the risks of causing an autism spectrum disorder by immunizing it increases significantly.
Despite the fact, that some people believe that vaccination is bad, majority of the population still

cause of severe acute gastroenteritis or AGE. Previously it infected nearly every child in United States
by age of 5 years old until routine rotavirus vaccination on United States infants began in 2006 (245).
There were two studies conducted that proved that vaccination protects children from certain diseases.

external value of the currency. To a country such as Zambia the market for foreign exchange is very
important. Its own currency, the kwacha is not a hard currency and thus not universally accepted in
payment of debt. Zambia relies on generating foreign currency from selling exports to enable it to
finance imports. The macroeconomic situation such as the balance of payments position, employment
and inflation are all influenced by a country s exchange rate. Hence it becomes a key economic policy

Essay On Whole Genome Sequencing
2.0 Materials and Methods
Whole genome sequencing (WGS) is one of the current methods used to obtain the entire genetic
composition of a particular patient. Once the sequence of DNA has been obtained the information
within the patient s genome is compared to a reference genome so that potentially pathogenic
mutations can be identified. Regions of DNA that are of interest are validated following the procedure
outlined below.
Primer design
Specific DNA loci were obtained from analysts in the form of Excel spreadsheets. These coordinates
were visualized using the genome browser build 19 on the UCSC website. The DNA sequence that
was taken was approximately 900 bp on either end of the region which was to be amplified. The DNA
sequence which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This extension period was set for 7 minutes. 35 cycles were run when amplifying particular regions of
DNA obtained from probands and their respective families. Note primers were tested with controls
using the hotstart PCR conditions before primers were run with the patient s DNA.
Visualizing PCR product
Agarose gels were run to determine whether amplification of the targeted region of DNA was
successful. 1% gels were made using 50mL of 1X TAE buffer and 0.5g of agarose. 2.5mL of Ecosafe
dye was added to the gel before mixing and then cooling in a gel rig. 1.0mL of loading dye was mixed
with 4.0mL of DNA from PCR tubes. DNA samples were then loaded in their respective wells along
with 5mL of 1kb ladder to approximate band sizes during visualization of the gel. Gels were
visualized using UV light set at a wavelength of 302nm. Each gel was exposed to UV light for 10
seconds before the image was captured with an Azure gel imaging system.
Purification
PCR tubes were ready for purification when a single DNA band was present per lane on the agarose
gel. If multiple bands were obtained in a single lane the PCR process and gel visualization process
was repeated however, the denaturation temperature was run at a higher temperature to prevent non
specific binding of the primers to the DNA template. The purification process used an Invitrogen PCR
clean up kit. 5mL of charge switch beads

The Rise of Consumer Culture Essay
Consumer culture has developed over the years for many different reasons such as the demise of the
social class and embourgeoisement which are both key factors in capitalism and has therefore led to
the argument that consumer society merely reflects the rise of capitalism which I plan to discuss
within this assignment. The origins of consumer culture have been discussed by Grant McCracken
(1998) who argues that there is minimal agreement in regards to the origins of consumer society.
McCracken took on the viewpoint that it would not be beneficial to look at a specific point in time in
which consumer culture arose but to primarily focus on patterns of changes within culture and how
these pattern of changes led to the reformation of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the works of Neil Mckendrick (1982) led him to the viewpoint that consumer culture began
in eighteenth century England with the commercialization of fashion which led to a mass change in
people s taste. So according to McKendrick the sudden change in people s taste in relation to fashion
during the eighteenth century meant that terminology such as style developed and represented the shift
in demand for items of clothing that was produced on a larger scale by new technology within the
textile industry and marketing to a mass audience through improvements in printing technology which
allowed and supported mass advertising to all members in society. The third was the development of
the department store. According to McCracken the Department store changed the nature of purchasing
activity because department stores essentially institutionalized consumption and changed the way in
how consumers were influenced and to how much influence they were subjected to in relation to
purchasing goods and services. From looking at the work of McCracken and McKendrick it is clear
that the development of the consumer society came from an increase in the supply and demand
mindset which is a key factor or element within a consumer society. Also the change in meaning in
relation to consumption is another example of the development of the consumer culture because the
term consumption was ignited through a new sense of

The Government And Indonesian Central Bank
In the past decades, the Indonesian banking system has experienced significant changes. The
economic crisis that hit Indonesia in 1997 1998 has resulted in a deteriorate bank performance and the
banking system nearly collapsed. The economy declined by 13% in 1998 and the country had to take a
43 billion USD bailout fund by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as its currency weakened,
companies could not pay their loans and at least 80 banks failed or were nationalized (Setiaji and
Chen, 2012). The government and Indonesian Central Bank (Bank Indonesia) implemented various
policy changes in order to save the banking system from collapsing, including the provision of Bank

While the global economic condition is still recovering from crisis, many argue that the process is
uneven and susceptible to shock (Bank Indonesia, 2015). The recovery process tends to slow down as
there is weakened commodity prices and foreign investment, and these factors are inevitably affecting
the growth rate of Indonesia. GDP growth is falling from 6.3% in 2007 to a forecasted growth rate of
5.5% in 2015 (Asian Development Bank, 2015). In this case, as a financial intermediary, banks have a
strategic role in supporting the national economic growth. It is believed that efficient banking system
is essential for the country development. Therefore, a study looking at the efficiency and profitability
of Indonesian banks is substantial as it will signal the growth of the Indonesian economy in the future.
According to Bloomberg, the lenders in Indonesia have the most profits among the top 20 economies
in the world (Vallikappen and Moestafa, 2013). The data shows that Indonesian banks have higher
profitability than other Southeast Asian (ASEAN) countries due to high demand for credit. It can be
seen that banks in Indonesia tend to have high net interest margin (NIM), which demonstrates the
ability of traditional bank activities to generate interest based income. From 2000 to 2009, average
banks in Indonesia had the highest NIM of 5.29% compare to other ASEAN countries, including the

Analysis Of Amy Chua s Battle Hymn Of The Tiger Mother
The Tiger Mother Way
Amy Chua s book Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother brings up much room for debate and controversy
for arguments whether Chinese parents do a better job than their Western counterparts. Chua s
parenting methods are most commonly described as stereotypical way every Chinese child is raised.
She explains in further detail how she raised her two daughters Sophia and Louisa and why she
believed in the tiger mother way. Although Chua s children became successful adults, she made both
good and bad parenting decisions. She was unfairly harsh and critical; however, she is a successful
parent in the aspect that she did teach her children many useful life skills such as not giving up easily
and how to excel academically.
Amy Chua was very harsh on her daughters. Chua not only once refused to let her daughter Louisa eat
but also to take a bathroom break(PC) during their music recitals (Chua 62). This is most certainly by
far one of the most overbearing(voc) and extreme parenting techniques Chua practices on her children,
Chua has very little tolerance for mediocracy and would turn away a home made birthday card her
very own daughter made for her if she thought they had not put enough effort into it. This shows that
she has a cold and very bold stance against weaknesses and lackluster effort. Amy Chua by nature is a
competitive person and everything is compared to or ranked. She was raised by

Feminism In The Canterbury Tales
In the 21st century, many women have been successful because of feminism. Women empowerment in
our current time is a lot strong than in the Medieval period, but it is still weak. In The Canterbury
Tales by Chaucer it represents strong feminist characters in, The Wife of Bath s Prologue and Tale .
The characters such as a Wife of Bath, an old hag, and also a Queen from Wife of Bath s Prologue and
Tale, play a feminist character in the male dominated society during that time. Through these three
characters, we see strong examples of feminism.
There were only two female storytellers in the book. One was Wife of Bath, and other was Prioress ,
but Wife of Bath have more experience under her belt than Prioress. Wife of Bath has traveled many
places in the world for pilgrimages. Not only has she seen many different people and place, but also
she was married for five times. She sees the world and experiences that she had, in the world in two
way, which is love and sex. To support her view of love and sex she uses her twisted understanding of
the Bibles and from The Canterbury Tales (and The Wife of Bath s Tale specifically) she states that,
All I know for sure is, God has plainly bidden us to increase and multiply (page 150). In the Wife of
Bath s Prologue in the The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer, The Wife of Bath presents a very confusing
portrait of a woman in the book. On one hand, she was very vocal about her sexual life and how she
uses her sexual powers to

Description Of A Lab Day
Description of the experience
The purpose of this reflection is to describe what concurred in lab day two. The day began with
preconference; Ms. O described what we would be doing throughout the day, which was infection
control, safety, and vital signs (#C1, #C4, #C6, #C10).
With infection control, hand washing is the most important aspect. As nurses and healthcare
professionals, we will encounter numerous individuals. To ensure that we do not contaminate another
client and ourselves, it is vital for us to wash our hands (#C4, #C6).
With safety, we were taught that it was crucial to ensure that you are performing care for the person
we are suppose to by using patient identification. Patient wristbands, having the patient state their full
name, and date of birth are the most effective way. Secondarily, safety goes beyond the parameters of
just identifying the patient, we were informed about bed rails, bed position, and call lights (#C2, #C4).
The last part of the day involved assessing vital signs, including; temperature (oral, rectal, axillary,
and tympanic), assessing pulses, respiratory rates, blood pressure, pulse oximeter assessment, and
measuring height and weight. Nurses use vital signs as a starting point and they can learn a lot a
person and s/he ailments immediately from this information (#C2).

Fourth Amendment Loss Of Privacy
The Fourth Amendment provides citizen the freedom of privacy. The expectation of privacy is covered
under the Fourth Amendment in order to protect this privacy. I strongly believe that an officer should
obtain a search warrant in order to violate one s right to privacy when crossing the boundary of
personal items. By searching an individual backpack, purse or wallet, one s privacy is invaded.
According to the court in People v. Cregan personal items such as cigarette packs (found in pockets),
wallets, or purses may be searched due to these items being inaccessibility of the individual at the time
of an arrest. This ruling allows officers to violate one s privacy by searching these items; even though,
the items are personal to the individual.

The Progression Of Higher Education
The progression of higher education has lead us past classroom education in the strictest sense to ideas
of the overall student experience and globalization. As the demand for access to education continues
to transform from the historical profile of white male student bodies, we have shifted to a noble yet
ambiguous idea of diversity. How an institution shows variety is relative, essentially there is no real
defining point other than, different. Diversification of participants in the institution s community
cannot be staged in the sense of having an equal 10% distribution of people in multiple groups that fit
into popular groups such as racial minorities, women, homosexual, and disabled people. This does
provide an element of categorizing differences but it limits institutions to marking a check box as
opposed experiencing real value. A recent New York times articles provides a glimpse at the darker
side of diversity and a disparaging opinion suggest that a small amount is enough (Holmes, 2015)
however this is a categorical farce. Every point of distinction matters, experience matter, perspective
matters, it all matters. All stakeholders including faculty, staff, and students benefit from diversity.
This must be intentional and in line with the mission and vision of the organization. In kind, required
resources include training, courses, extracurricular organizations, and campus activities. Spellman

Sir Edmund Hillary And Tenzing Norgay And Mount Everest
Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first people to reach the top of Mount Everest. Ever
since that event occurred, climbers have also attempted to reach the top as well. The mountain became
polluted and has been collecting more piles of debris because of this. After Hillary and Norgay s
accomplishment, Hillary used his money to help the environment and encouraged mountain climbers
to clean up their garbage. For instance, the first source states He also demanded that mountain
climbers clean up the garbage that often got left behind on Mount Everest materials like used oxygen
bottles, which climbers would discard because of their weight (The World s Highest Mountain).
Mountain climbers who followed their steps often left behind waste. He did not want to pollute Mount
Everest, therefore he asked the climbers to pick up the trash they could possibly leave. Moreover, it
also explains that Hillary was also deeply concerned about the environment. He helped establish
reforestation programs in Nepal (The World s Highest Mountain). His concern for the mountain s
environment caused him to help build reforestation programs in Nepal. Because of the trash left in the
area, these program were created to help the habitat. The source s explanation of how Hillary

sometimes those are the ones who elucidate the crime, at times, their confessions may be critical for
the innocent person who is finally convicted because of their lies and corruption. The role of the police
is central to understanding wrongful convictions, because they gather the evidence, they interview the

Tourism can be defined as the set of activities of persons traveling to and staying in places outside
their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year and whose main purpose of travel is
other than the exercise of an activity renumerated from within the place visited.
While on the surface travel and tourism mean approximately the same things, they
Represent two completely different ways of approaching a journey. Here are the differences between
travel and tourism, broken down by issues every person must consider when going to a new place.

Alpine Village Of Verdigre Essay
Alpine Village of Verdigre Henry David Thoreau once said, Go confidently in the direction of your
dreams. Live the life you have imagined. Ever since I was young, I have repetitively told myself this
for my everyday future. Being a senior stepping into the real world in just a few months is
intimidating, but a challenge that I am more than ready to face head on. In this upcoming fall, I will be
attending The University of South Dakota striving for a bachelor degree in a mental health field of
study. I believe that I have chosen this field of expertise because of the influence my parents have had
on me, and possibly, most importantly, always pushing me to be a better, more understanding human
being. After watching both my mother and father work consistently with the community up at Alpine

The Labor Force In Mr. Wonka s Charlie And The Chocolate...
The publication of the 1964 storyline of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory associates to the politics
and history of the United Kingdom. During this time, the labor force in the story directly relates to the
labor anxieties expressed in the UK. According to Robert Miles and Annie Phizacklea, the British
Nationality Act of 1948 released the labor market and British citizenship to the New Commonwealth,
men and women from the Caribbean and the Indian sub continent who came to sell their labor power
for a wage in British factories (Miles Phizacklea 1984). Once these men and women arrived, they
were instantaneously assumed as low grade, separated from the white and there human appearance
was questioned. Therefore, the men and women were later called the domestic class in the British
Empire, within the primary fragments of the slave trade. This relates to the story that Grandpa Joe tells
in the 1964 book. He states then one day, all of a sudden, Mr. Wonka had to ask every single one of
them to leave, to go home, never to come back (Dahl 19). Grandpa Joe then says, the factory opened
again however, nobody...ever...comes...out and nobody...ever... goes... (Dahl 17). He explains the
rising and falling of the factory and how Wonka fires his entire staff, rebuilds his chocolate factory
with hidden workers, the Oompa Loompas. Wonka explains his compassionate reasoning for
containing a population of 3000 black men, women and children, when telling the tale of the Oompa

Essay on Rappaccini s Daughter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
Rappaccini s Daughter by Nathaniel Hawthorne In Rappaccini s Daughter , Nathaniel Hawthorne
examines the combination of good and evil in people through the relationships of the story s main
characters. The lovely and yet poisonous Beatrice, the daughter of the scientist Rappaccini, is the
central figure of the story, while her neighbor Giovanni becomes the observer, participant, and
interpreter of the strange events that transpire within the garden next door. It is Giovanni s inability to
understand these events that eventually leads to Beatrice s death. Giovanni sees things that are either
all good or all bad. While he is quick to judge Beatrice, he is unable to examine his own motives and
thoughts. During the story, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hawthorne frequently uses words like imagine , seemed , or appeared to to cast a doubt upon the
validity of what Giovanni thinks he sees. Even Giovanni himself rationalizes the situation and
convinces himself that what he thought he saw did not happen. This is because in Giovanni s mind, it
is impossible to separate the physical from the spiritual. For him, if Beatrice s body is poisonous, then
so is her spirit. Giovanni is unable to see the possibilities for good and bad to be simultaneously within
someone. This problem is at the heart of this story and is what ultimately causes Beatrice s death.
Since Giovanni allows himself to disbelieve what he had seen earlier in the garden, he is able to fall
for Beatrice. Giovanni is drawn to Beatrice not because of the glamor of science, but an interest in the
unknown. He knows that all is not right in Rappaccini s garden and he is fascinated with the mystery.
As Giovanni and Beatrice get to know each other, they develop a strong bond. However, for Giovanni
this is not true love. Hawthorne provides the reader with clues that question the integrity of Giovanni.
For example, Hawthorne writes, Guasconti had not a deep heart or at all events, its depths are not
sounded now but he had a quick fancy, and an ardent southern temperament, which rose every instant
to higher fever pitch (Hawthorne 614). Not only is Giovanni passionate in his lust for Beatrice, but he

Paid time off (PTO) is the employer pools sick days, vacation days, and personal days that allows the

per study conducted in 2010 by WorldatWork, 44% of 387 companies surveyed said they started using
PTO bank type plans prior to year 2000. (Wikipedia paid of time).
PTO system allowed employees to take time off without any restriction imposed through traditional
time off policies .the approach give employees certain number of days that put in leave bank system
,upon withdrawal from employees the system reduce the balance of leaves remaining for the
employees .with the paid off leave system the employees can utilize their allocated days however they
wish, without having to specify reasons .employers can advantage from PTO asking the employees to

Ionotropic Receptors Research Paper
Ionotropic receptors is a binding site that opens when an ion attaches to the binding site. The
ionotropic receptor is also a direct method to the ion channels. Ionotropic receptors has a channel
where molecules move in and out of the ion channel. The ions that goes into the ion channel are made
out of sodium which cause the membrane to become small.
Metabotropic receptors is receptor that is a part of the binding site of a neurotransmitter. Metabotropic
is indirect and complex method to the ion channels. Metabotropic receptor process is also different
from the inotropic receptor. When the ion channel is open the molecule move to the ion channel then
molecule attaches to the metabotropic receptor and the ion channel closes.

Analysis Of Foucault And Queer Theory
In Foucault and Queer Theory Spargo defines queer theory as a nebulous group of cultural criticism
and analysis of social power structures relating to sexuality . It is these power structures and aspects of
culture that are responsible for the discourse that creates and informs ones understanding of gender,
race, and sexuality. However these aspects of identity do not exist separately from one another, but are
constructed in tandem throughout history. These layers of identity inform each other in a way that is
difficult if not impossible to separate. They do not act independently with an additive effect but
intersect constructing their own unique set of experiences and perspectives. In this paper I will be

In the case of Spargo s interpretation of Foucault the hegemonic ideal sexual subject is that of a
straight man, who is presumably white and middle class. According to Foucault the category of
homosexual emerged in the 19th century out of the development of the field of sexology, when
medicine replaced religion as the primary producer of discourse on sexuality, and enforcer of
(hetero)sexual norms . Foucault argues that despite their relative position individuals categorised as
homosexual were able to create their own discourse (or counter discourses) to the narrative on
unnaturalness promoted by sexology in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, thus finding agency
within constraining discourses . In this way sexuality and sexual subjects are constructed, understood
and questioned through the discourse produced by those individuals and institutions with access to
power. Spargo goes on to address some of the criticisms of Foucault and how these failing have been
addressed as queer theory has developed. The most significant of these criticism as addressed by
Spargo was Foucault s focus on masculine sexualities . Spargo explores the relationship of the
production of sexuality to gender through a discussion of Judith Butler. Butler argues that gender is
produced and understood via cultural discourse in the same way as sexuality . Gender according to

The Efficacy Of Ck2 Inhibitors Essay
AML xenograft model: For the proposed studies to test the efficacy of CK2 inhibitor in AML, we have
transduced the human AML cell line, U937 and human APML cell line, HL60 with a lentiviral vector
carrying the luciferase gene. The luciferase producing U937 and HL60 cells were injected via the tail
vein into NOD.Cg Rag1 Il2rg/SzJ (NRG) mice. After 3 5 days, engraftment of AML cells was
confirmed by bioluminescence imaging documenting one log increase in quantitative signal measured
by the IVIS Xenogen reader. Pilot results in two animals demonstrate that both U937 and HL60
luciferase producing cells successfully established leukemia (Fig 6). Thus, we have demonstrated the
feasibility of the proposed experiments by establishing two luciferase tagged AML murine xenografts

It is quite interesting to me that as times change, the general idea of beauty changes. The sad thing is
that it seems to follow money. Back then, pale, plump people were seen as more beautiful than skinny,
tanned people. Back then, pale skin and a little bit of extra blubber meant that someone had enough
money that they could stay inside and get enough to eat. Now, it seems that the opposite is true.
Healthy food is more expensive than the alternatives such as McDonald s. Having tan skin may mean
that a person has enough money to go lay in a coffin looking thing, get an artificial sunburn, and get
nice leathery skin. Who doesn t like leathery skin? Wow, this got off topic quickly. I like the skipper

Learning Disabilities Disadvantages
In the early 1960 s Samuel Kirk an American educator and psychologist, founded the term known as
learning disabilities. This came about after he had visited with a few groups of parents a few times to
discuss why these parents children seem to have small amounts of success even when they are able to
understand and comprehend just like other children. As a result of these meetings the Learning
Disabilities Association of America was formed (Pullen, 27). Then later in the mid 1970 s the
Education for All Handicapped Children Act was put into law which formally identified the concept of
learning disabilities (Pullen, 25). After these things were put in place, there was over 10 different
descriptions of what learning disabilities can be based off of. For this concept, it will be known as the
following description. Learning Disabilities (LD) are created when there is a space between a person s
ability to think and reason and not their understanding based on the results from tests. It is known that
around 4 to 5 percent of adolescents are considered to have LD. There are a few reasons why LD can
occur. Boys are more prone than girls, African Americans and Latinos are more prone than Whites and
Asians. Most adolescents with LD struggle with many academic areas especially in reading. They also
have difficulties with interacting with others, expressing their feelings and understanding the feelings
of others. Last, is that adolescents with LD have a high chance of dropout rates

Similarities Between The French Revolution And The...
The Glorious Revolution took place in 1688 and the French Revolution in 1789. Some historians
believe these revolutions to be equivalent, but there are many aspects that make them different. The
main similarity was the effort made to limit the power of the monarchy. The Glorious Revolution and
French Revolution are more different then they are similar because of the events leading up to the
revolutions and the methods used to achieve the goal of limiting monarchial rule.
When comparing the Glorious Revolution and the French Revolution, it is important to consider the
events that led up to them. In England, King James was Catholic and appointed Catholics to important
positions and granted religious tolerance. His actions would have not been approved by Parliament
because before his accession to the throne, the Parliament had tried and failed to pass a law that
prevented a Catholic king from taking the throne. The creation of this law was due to the actions of his
brother, King Charles. The Parliament would not provide money for King Charles to run the kingdom,
thus he turned to France for help. In exchange for monetary funds, he agreed to offer support to France

The Benefits Of Technology On Nursing

Social intelligence may include not using medical jargon when speaking with a patient or their family
because more than likely they will not understand what the nurse is saying. A nurse needs to assess the
situation, show empathy, work as team and communicate effectively It is important for a nurse to
continuously reflect on emotional and social intelligence.
Additionally, another obstacle in nursing is the issue of presence. A nurse may get caught up in having
an attitude of getting the job done because of lack of time (Melnechenko, 2003). However, a patient
can sense if a nurse is present or not. Presence is not only knowing and offering self as a nurse but
also, physically being present in the moment and aiding a patient. Presence does not require more
time, rather it is a willingness to focus on really being there and being involved when with another.
(Pettigrew, p. 305, 1990) A nurse does not have to spend extra time with a patient to be fully focused,
caring and present. However, for a patient this presence is evident in a nurse s care and can hinder the
attitude and communication of a patient. On the other hand, when a nurse is present he will be more
attentive to the patient s situation and feelings allowing for better care from the nurse.
Moreover, because of lack of time a nurse may sense a detachment from patients, and may feel like he
is not making a difference for a patient. Reflection is important in continuing to care for patients.

Elements Of Effective Organization Organizations
Elements of Effective Organizations Every organization strives to become a high performing
organization. The essential elements of effective organizations include a practical business structure,
an excellent communication strategy, competent managers, and influential leaders. The elements of
success are the same for all organizations; however, the process of incorporating the elements are
different because every organization is unique. Organizational Structure Effective organizational
structures define how job tasks are subdivided, grouped, coordinated, and managed. Six key
components of organizational structures include division of labor, departmentalization, chain of
command, span of control, centralization, and formalization (Remme, Jones, Van der Heijden, De
Bono, 2008, p. 79). Each element influence how employees interact with each other to reach
organizational goals. Different structures are common in similar organizations among high performing
organizations (Reimann, 1974, p. 707). The most appropriate structure will depend on the unique
needs and culture of the organization. The division of labor dictates the degree to which
responsibilities are subdivided into separate units. It is communicated through job descriptions, and
ensures each employee has specific duties to perform based on their work experience, education, and
capability. Departmentalization determines which jobs are grouped together to create departments.
Functional Departmentalization is

Evolution Of Pheromones In Dogs
Smell: Dogs use smell to identify individuals, determine gender and recognise another dog s mood.
Their olfactory sense is said to be 40 times more sensitive than a human s (Wiki, 2015). They are able
to use pheromones for communication, which are endogenous chemicals that carry messages
(Hedges.S, 2014). Different chemicals are secreted when dogs are angry, fearful or confident (Wiki,

pregnant, has recently given birth or is in her oestrus cycle (Wiki, 2015). Many of these pheromones
are found dissolved in the animals urine, male dogs prefer to urinate on vertical surfaces as high as

Comparison Of King Kamehameha And Giuseppe Mazzini
King Kamehameha and Giuseppe Mazzini both grew to be great leaders. King Kamehameha was the
person who unified all the Hawaiian Islands under his rule. Kamehameha, however, was not always at
the top of the heap. He started off as a normal ali i but because of his increasing reputation after
defeating many others in powerful positions, gained control of all the Islands. Kamehameha was a
very tall and physically fit man, as well as skilled mentally and at the art of war (including using
weapons and fighting). Giuseppe Mazzini was the leader and founder of the political movement
(Risorgimento) that overthrew Italy s rule and united Italy with other kingdoms (e.g. Rome). He
believed in Italian freedom much like his fellow exiles, and got many people to join his cause. This is
what makes both King Kamehameha and Giuseppe Mazzini successful and effective leaders.
King Kamehameha and Giuseppe Mazzini are both effective leaders and have many similarities
although they had different ideals. First of all, both Kamehameha and Mazzini unified different
kingdoms. Kamehameha was the leader of the unification of the Hawaiian Islands, and Mazzini was

governments in the process of unification. They altered the government in a way that suited the people

Jesus s Return And The Time Of Revelation
We are of course waiting for Jesus s return, or the time of revelation. The study of Jesus s coming, and
the other last things, heaven, hell, judgement, etc., is called eschatology. Eschatology starts with some
tensions, just as many theological topics and studies do. These tensions do not come from different
doctrinal parties differing in opinion though, they come from the very nature of revelation it self. It all
stems from the phrases already and not yet. Already covers what has already happened in the present
tense regarding the life of Jesus, and continues to the very moment we are alive. This contrasts with
the not yet phrase because not yet looks much further into the future. It looks at the reality of the
coming kingdom of God, and its power. We are able to find our beliefs in the middle of these two
realities. It is here where we continue the works of Jesus while waiting for the coming of the kingdom.
Now is where we spread the word of God for the future revelation. So by working now for what will
come in the future defines our doctrines and who we are as Christians in our day to day lives. After
speaking of Jesus it is logical to discuss the Holy Spirit after, given that the Holy Spirit is sent by
Jesus the Son of God. The Holy Spirit is as I just said, sent by the Son, and proceeds from the Father

Fulfillment, Production and Warehouse management processes are concerned with goods movement
that triggers goods issue that will be further discussed.
Goods Issue
There are four types of goods movement types: goods receipt, goods issue, goods transfer and transfer

Brand rebuild
Time heals all wounds, letting the incidents die out in the memories of consumers.
First is a whole new menu to all restaurants in all cities. To introduce all new products to the menu
simultaneously. And relaunch versions of customer favorites.
Next are brand new marketing strategies. This includes redesigned product packaging, an enhanced
service model, contemporary staff uniforms, a new store design, and digital
initiatives including new mobile app, E menu and prepay take
out option.
Finally, bring on popular Chinese celebrities to promote the KFC brand and gain further trust among
consumers.
Shift focus
None of this is meant to overstate the overall weakness of KFC in China, the shakeup is forcing the
company to rethink the dynamic. Now that China is no longer the dependable stalwart, maybe Yum!

Carnegie And Rockefeller Captain Of Industry Essay
Throughout the developing stages of the United states, many people played very key parts in their way
of dealing with industrialization and helping our country grow. Andrew Carnegie is the man known
for taking over the steel industry. Carnegie had done his research and planning to try to take over the
steel industry. Rockefeller is another big name that will be remembered as the man who took over the
oil industry. Rockefeller was a man of his patience and wisdom to force his competition out of
business instead of taking over. Now, Rockefeller and Carnegie are two names that sit a top of a fence.
Robber Barons on one side and Captains of Industry on the other. Captains of Industry seem to be the
most fitting for these two industrializers since they both were considered huge philanthropists through
their donating and contributions to society. Rockefeller and Carnegie both payed very low wages, this

Carnegie and Rockefeller were considered Innovators, bold entrepreneurs, materialistic and predatory
since they were so good at taking over their industry. It has been stated by historians that without the
effects of Carnegie and Rockefeller, America wouldn t be the same since the absence of them would
change the history and inevitably America would ve lost WWI and WWII since the steel wouldn t had
been as abundant and the amount of oil wouldn t help to transport people, troops and goods. The main
effects of Carnegie are the skyscrapers and landmarks we have today in our cities and even around the

transportation. The amount of help and improvement made by the two industrializers has helped to

19th June, 2012 Final Research Essay Is the Popular Korean Animation Character Pororo Really an
Educational Friend? In South Korea, there is an ongoing Pororo boom among children. Porong Porong
Pororo is an original Korean animation series that is about the adventures of Pororo and his friends in
the North Pole (Appendix 1). People call this penguin character as Potongreung which means
President Pororo in Korean, as it is like the president among children. As this nickname represents,
kids love this animation so much but this popularity is a huge problem because it has gotten to the
point where no one questions its educational values. Currently as of June 19th, not a single article was

On top of that approximately 80% of childhood obesity continues to adulthood, and can cause health
problems such as high blood pressure. According to California University in San Diego, Doctor
Jeffrey Schwimmer claims that those who watch TV for more than 4 hours a day are three times more
likely to have high blood pressure problems (US National Library). Watching Pororo can also result in
children s low participation in social activities. It is said that social skills are learned at early age.
However TV is a one way communication system, so children can not learn the necessary
communication skills to make friends. They will more likely to be shy in making new friends because
they don t know how to interact with them. This will lower their self esteem making it much harder
for them to engage in activities. According to experts, if social activities are limited, parents are
putting their own children at a disadvantage (Wade). To provide more concrete example, an online
interview from a mother indicates that her son is addicted to Pororo, and will not go outside. The
mother shows a deep concern for the kid s future. I m not sure how he is going to make new friends. I
am worried terribly. Whenever I try to turn Pororo off and ask him to play outside, he says no (Moms

Nintendo Oligopoly Essay
The Nintendo Switch is one of a few video game consoles on the market. The Nintendo Switch was
released this year to very positive reviews and is expected to succeed. But what Market structure is the
Nintendo Switch in? What would it take to get into the Video game hardware market? How much
would that cost? The Nintendo Switch is part of an Oligopoly due to the few number of major
producers, the difficulty of getting into the market, the similarities in products and the slight amount
of control that each company has over its price in the market.
When it comes to producing video game consoles there are 3 current producers. Sony, Microsoft and
Nintendo. Sony is the producer of the PlayStation 4, Microsoft is the producer of Xbox One, and
Nintendo is the producer of the Nintendo Switch and the 3DS. There are many other companies that
develop consoles that do one of two things, either they have games built into them or they stream the
game from their servers. They consoles are know as plug n play and a microconsole. These are usually

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Block Grants
Grant writing is a great skill to have, especially if you are planning to have a career in the criminal
justice field. What many do not know however is that there are many different types of grants. Each
type of grant has its own unique purpose, advantages, and disadvantages. These different kinds of
grants include block grants, employment grants, program grants, technology grants, construction
grants, and research grants. It is important to educate yourself on these different types of grants so that
you can have a better understanding of the skills needed to be a successful grant writer. Frist, we have
block grants. A block grant is basically when the federal government gives out large amounts of
money to local and state authorities in order to funds things such as public enforcement, law
enforcement, or community development. Often times there is a lot of discretion given in regards to
how the money is spent, so there is no fine detail when it comes to how the money is going to be used.
Two examples of this kind of grant program is the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, also
known as welfare, and Low Income Home Energy Assistance Block Grant. Welfare is used to help
support low income families and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Block Grant is assistance
to low income families to help pay energy bills. The advantage of block grants is that it is less
restrictive, but a disadvantage could be the use of the money ineffectively.
Secondly, we have employment

Space Shuttle Challenger Explosion NASA s space shuttle orbiter Challenger was an engineering
failure that shocked the US when it blew up 73 seconds into its flight after its launch from Florida in
1986, killing all seven of its crew. The cause of the failure was that the shuttle s O ring seal in the right
rocket booster failed while at liftoff, allowing pressurized gas from the rocket to reach the adjacent
SRB aft field joint attachment hardware and external fuel tanks, causing structural failure and
aerodynamic forces to tear it apart. The O ring wasn t designed to operate under the very cold
conditions during the launch. The technology involved was the O ring and joints of the shuttle s rocket
boosters. The boosters were constructed into seven sections held together by joints, with each joint
being sealed by rubber O rings. The O rings are meant to contain hot, pressurized gas. If the O ring
fails, there are little safe aborts possible for the shuttle with hot gas leaking on the

At the time, I was in a program called PSEO where I was able to go to college while I was in high school. Being a first generation college student I didn t know how serious this first year of college would affect the rest of my college career. I should have taken that first year seriously. I thought that I would graduate high school and attend a 4 year university and graduate to go to optometry school. As a planning type, I had everything in place. Until my cousin s grandma passed away, I grew up with them living a walking block away. I was shocked and reflected on my life that I have planned out for myself. After graduating high school packed up my things and headed out west to San Jose, California to move in with my grandparents. I wanted to spend as much time with them while I attended a local community college called DeAnza. I was surrounded by people who could care less about anyone else but themselves. I didn t fit, but I stayed to be with my grandparents for the rest of the quarter. As the quarter went by so did my bank account, I had no option but to go home to Minnesota. Once I got back to Minnesota I got a job of being an optometric technician working side by side with the doctor. After 6 months of working there I could not see myself as an optometrist. Introduction Soil erosion is one form of soil degradation along with soil compaction, low organic matter, loss of soil structure, poor internal drainage, salinisation, and soil acidity problems. These other forms of soil degradation, serious in themselves, usually contribute to accelerated soil erosion. Soil erosion is a naturally occurring process on all land. The agents of soil erosion are water and wind, each contributing a significant amount of soil loss each year in Ontario. Soil erosion may be a slow process that continues relatively unnoticed, or it may occur at an alarming rate causing serious loss of topsoil. The loss of soil from farmland may be reflected in reduced crop production potential, lower surface water quality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plant and residue cover protects the soil from raindrop impact and splash, tends to slow down the movement of surface runoff and allows excess surface water to infiltrate. The erosion reducing effectiveness of plant and/or residue covers depends on the type, extent and quantity of cover. Vegetation and residue combinations that completely cover the soil, and which intercept all falling raindrops at and close to the surface and the most efficient in controlling soil (e.g. forests, permanent grasses ). Partially incorporated residues and residual roots are also important as these provide channels that allow surface water to move into the soil. The effectiveness of any crop, management system or protective cover also depends on how much protection is available at various periods during the year, relative to the amount of erosive rainfall that falls during these periods. In this respect, crops which provide a food, protective cover for a major portion of the year (for example, alfalfa or winter cover crops) can reduce erosion much more than can crops which leave the soil bare for a longer period of time (e.g. row crops) and particularly during periods of high erosive rainfall (spring and summer). However, most of the erosion on annual row crop land can be reduced by leaving a residue cover greater than 30% after harvest and over the winter months, or by inter seeding a forage crop (e.g. red ... In this era, the common beliefs were that demography, labor market institutions, and technology were causing the inequality to rise and for the elites to produce this astounding amounts of income. In addition, the survey includes a subsample of the most affluent households, and groups them into different categories according to their wealth. As a result, the SCF is considered by many experts in the field of finance as one of the best sources on the wealth and investment behavior of the citizens in the United States. This SCF survey serves the purpose of being the main method used in this article to test the hypotheses presented by the author. For instance, to test the first hypothesis, that income concentration at the top was driven by investment gains, the SCF tracks the top one percent s investment income. The main intention behind this research was to explore the long term comparison between academic achievement and social acceptance across different ethnic groups in a sample of adolescents. In order to find out the race/ethnicities as well as social acceptance of the participants they conducted in home interviews. In order to find the GPA, they utilized self reports. The results of this research show that social acceptance is positively correlated with GPA. African Americans and Native Americans adolescents have a bigger social cost with academic success than White adolescents do. These findings also suggested that students of Mexican decent also show different social costs within their achievement. This research article possessed many strengths. The authors did an exceptional job in including all factors such as gender, SES, ethnicity, minority groups, single parent families, school and neighborhood disadvantages in regards to its correlation with academic success. The Rise of Consumer Culture Essay Consumer culture has developed over the years for many different reasons such as the demise of the social class and embourgeoisement which are both key factors in capitalism and has therefore led to the argument that consumer society merely reflects the rise of capitalism which I plan to discuss within this assignment. The origins of consumer culture have been discussed by Grant McCracken (1998) who argues that there is minimal agreement in regards to the origins of consumer society. McCracken took on the viewpoint that it would not be beneficial to look at a specific point in time in which consumer culture arose but to primarily focus on patterns of changes within culture and how these pattern of changes led to the reformation of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However the works of Neil Mckendrick (1982) led him to the viewpoint that consumer culture began in eighteenth century England with the commercialization of fashion which led to a mass change in people s taste. So according to McKendrick the sudden change in people s taste in relation to fashion during the eighteenth century meant that terminology such as style developed and represented the shift in demand for items of clothing that was produced on a larger scale by new technology within the textile industry and marketing to a mass audience through improvements in printing technology which allowed and supported mass advertising to all members in society. The third was the development of the department store. According to McCracken the Department store changed the nature of purchasing activity because department stores essentially institutionalized consumption and changed the way in how consumers were influenced and to how much influence they were subjected to in relation to purchasing goods and services. From looking at the work of McCracken and McKendrick it is clear that the development of the consumer society came from an increase in the supply and demand mindset which is a key factor or element within a consumer society. Although Chua s children became successful adults, she made both good and bad parenting decisions. She was unfairly harsh and critical; however, she is a successful parent in the aspect that she did teach her children many useful life skills such as not giving up easily and how to excel academically. Amy Chua was very harsh on her daughters. Chua not only once refused to let her daughter Louisa eat but also to take a bathroom break(PC) during their music recitals (Chua 62). This is most certainly by far one of the most overbearing(voc) and extreme parenting techniques Chua practices on her children, Chua has very little tolerance for mediocracy and would turn away a home made birthday card her very own daughter made for her if she thought they had not put enough effort into it. The Progression Of Higher Education The progression of higher education has lead us past classroom education in the strictest sense to ideas of the overall student experience and globalization. As the demand for access to education continues to transform from the historical profile of white male student bodies, we have shifted to a noble yet ambiguous idea of diversity. How an institution shows variety is relative, essentially there is no real defining point other than, different. Diversification of participants in the institution s community cannot be staged in the sense of having an equal 10% distribution of people in multiple groups that fit into popular groups such as racial minorities, women, homosexual, and disabled people. This does provide an element of categorizing differences but it limits institutions to marking a check box as opposed experiencing real value. The publication of the 1964 storyline of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory associates to the politics and history of the United Kingdom. During this time, the labor force in the story directly relates to the labor anxieties expressed in the UK. According to Robert Miles and Annie Phizacklea, the British Nationality Act of 1948 released the labor market and British citizenship to the New Commonwealth, men and women from the Caribbean and the Indian sub continent who came to sell their labor power for a wage in British factories (Miles Phizacklea 1984). Once these men and women arrived, they were instantaneously assumed as low grade, separated from the white and there human appearance was questioned. Therefore, the men and women were later called the domestic class in the British Empire, within the primary fragments of the slave trade. This relates to the story that Grandpa Joe tells in the 1964 book. He states then one day, all of a sudden, Mr. Wonka had to ask every single one of them to leave, to go home, never to come back (Dahl 19). Grandpa Joe then says, the factory opened again however, nobody...ever...comes...out and nobody...ever... goes... (Dahl 17). He explains the rising and falling of the factory and how Wonka fires his entire staff, rebuilds his chocolate factory with hidden workers, the Oompa Loompas. • 25. Essay on Rappaccini s Daughter by Nathaniel Hawthorne Rappaccini s Daughter by Nathaniel Hawthorne In Rappaccini s Daughter , Nathaniel Hawthorne examines the combination of good and evil in people through the relationships of the story s main characters. The lovely and yet poisonous Beatrice, the daughter of the scientist Rappaccini, is the central figure of the story, while her neighbor Giovanni becomes the observer, participant, and interpreter of the strange events that transpire within the garden next door. It is Giovanni s inability to understand these events that eventually leads to Beatrice s death. Giovanni sees things that are either all good or all bad. Hawthorne frequently uses words like imagine , seemed , or appeared to to cast a doubt upon the validity of what Giovanni thinks he sees. Even Giovanni himself rationalizes the situation and convinces himself that what he thought he saw did not happen. This is because in Giovanni s mind, it is impossible to separate the physical from the spiritual. For him, if Beatrice s body is poisonous, then so is her spirit. Giovanni is unable to see the possibilities for good and bad to be simultaneously within someone. This problem is at the heart of this story and is what ultimately causes Beatrice s death. Since Giovanni allows himself to disbelieve what he had seen earlier in the garden, he is able to fall for Beatrice. Giovanni is drawn to Beatrice not because of the glamor of science, but an interest in the unknown. He knows that all is not right in Rappaccini s garden and he is fascinated with the mystery. As Giovanni and Beatrice get to know each other, they develop a strong bond. However, for Giovanni this is not true love. Hawthorne provides the reader with clues that question the integrity of Giovanni. For example, Hawthorne writes, Guasconti had not a deep heart or at all events, its depths are not sounded now but he had a quick fancy, and an ardent southern temperament, which rose every instant to higher fever pitch (Hawthorne 614). • 28. Analysis Of Foucault And Queer Theory In Foucault and Queer Theory Spargo defines queer theory as a nebulous group of cultural criticism and analysis of social power structures relating to sexuality . It is these power structures and aspects of culture that are responsible for the discourse that creates and informs ones understanding of gender, race, and sexuality. However these aspects of identity do not exist separately from one another, but are constructed in tandem throughout history. These layers of identity inform each other in a way that is difficult if not impossible to separate. They do not act independently with an additive effect but intersect constructing their own unique set of experiences and perspectives. In this paper I will be exploring queer theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case of Spargo s interpretation of Foucault the hegemonic ideal sexual subject is that of a straight man, who is presumably white and middle class. According to Foucault the category of homosexual emerged in the 19th century out of the development of the field of sexology, when medicine replaced religion as the primary producer of discourse on sexuality, and enforcer of (hetero)sexual norms . Foucault argues that despite their relative position individuals categorised as homosexual were able to create their own discourse (or counter discourses) to the narrative on unnaturalness promoted by sexology in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, thus finding agency within constraining discourses . In this way sexuality and sexual subjects are constructed, understood and questioned through the discourse produced by those individuals and institutions with access to power. Spargo goes on to address some of the criticisms of Foucault and how these failing have been addressed as queer theory has developed. The most significant of these criticism as addressed by Spargo was Foucault s focus on masculine sexualities . The study of Jesus s coming, and the other last things, heaven, hell, judgement, etc., is called eschatology. Eschatology starts with some tensions, just as many theological topics and studies do. These tensions do not come from different doctrinal parties differing in opinion though, they come from the very nature of revelation it self. It all stems from the phrases already and not yet. Already covers what has already happened in the present tense regarding the life of Jesus, and continues to the very moment we are alive. This contrasts with the not yet phrase because not yet looks much further into the future. It looks at the reality of the coming kingdom of God, and its power. We are able to find our beliefs in the middle of these two realities. It is here where we continue the works of Jesus while waiting for the coming of the kingdom. Now is where we spread the word of God for the future revelation. So by working now for what will come in the future defines our doctrines and who we are as Christians in our day to day lives. Space Shuttle Challenger Explosion NASA s space shuttle orbiter Challenger was an engineering failure that shocked the US when it blew up 73 seconds into its flight after its launch from Florida in 1986, killing all seven of its crew. The cause of the failure was that the shuttle s O ring seal in the right rocket booster failed while at liftoff, allowing pressurized gas from the rocket to reach the adjacent SRB aft field joint attachment hardware and external fuel tanks, causing structural failure and aerodynamic forces to tear it apart. The O ring wasn t designed to operate under the very cold conditions during the launch. The technology involved was the O ring and joints of the shuttle s rocket boosters. The boosters were constructed into seven sections held together by joints, with each joint being sealed by rubber O rings. The O rings are meant to contain hot, pressurized gas.
