Reflection On Organizational Change
I first off would like to start by saying these past 8 weeks have been a great experience! I have been
able to learn and gain new skills and tools that will not only help me in the rest of my schooling, but
will be very beneficial when it comes to my career. I have really enjoyed getting to see all different
experiences out there and a variety of perspectives on what one has done or not when in that situation.
It certainly has opened my eyes up to the world and I feel I am more aware and ready for what might
come my way now. Although after reading the Let s Drive a Stake In the Heart of the Industrial Age!
you never really know what s going to happen next. I plan to use all the OB tools that I have been able
to learn about in this term to assist the transformational process in organizational models. Using these
tools will help this process go more smoothly and make it easier not only for the company but for the
employees and customers. The transformational process in any company is hard and can be very
challenging during a time like this. I believe that change is challenging just from my experiences and
that it can take more time than one thinks or wants it to. I personally am not a fan of change, so when
there is a change going on in my personal or professional life I hope it is quick and easy (which it is
rarely ever). I have learned though change is good. As much as I may hate it, it is necessary and it
cannot be avoided. I learned these past weeks and have seen examples where some individuals in a
company will resist change, even leaders, and that is where I find the OB tools to help and make the
change as easy as possible for everyone in the company. I know this is something I will do to assist the
transformational process in organizational models in my future company. I will use the strategies we
have learned in this course to help and be more effective. One concept in this course I have learned
and it has stuck with me is focusing on employees. Without good relationships with employees and
making sure they are happy and acknowledged the work within the company will not get done
effectively and efficiently. As a manager, I will make sure that all employees are managed, able to
express their

The Importance Of Self Assessment
I was able to take three assessments that were able to tell me about my interests, skills, possible jobs
and education degrees that I could potentially pursue. The names of the three assessments are the:
Strong Interest Inventory, Myers Briggs Type Indicator and StrenghtsQuest. I m going to take a look at
my results for each assessment and compare the similarities as well as the contrast. The highest
themes that were measured for me in the Strong Interest Inventory were the: Enterprising,
Conventional and Artistic. It s broken down into four categories which are Interests, work activities,
potential skills and values. For Enterprising, I felt that all four categories sum up me. The assessment
picked up on my leadership quality, ability to motivate and direct others.
The conventional theme did pick up that I have values of accuracy, stability, efficiency and paying
attention to details. It also said that I m interested in organization and setting up procedures which is
very true. That s thing at my current job that bothers me the most. The one thing I didn t agree with is
that I m in record keeping and I m not the best at that.
The Artistic theme was spot on as far as my interests and values. My interests were self expression, art
appreciation, communication and culture. The values were beauty, originality, independence and
imagination. I definitely view the world in color when dealing with most situations. There was a list of
my personal style scales preferences and the

This commercial was a little bit to honest when informing consumers about Pristiq and how

US and the Cold War Era
While the U.S. maintained a relatively confusing agenda regarding foreign policies during the Cold
War era, its attitudes are clearer in the present as globalization has strengthened connections between
all international actors and made it more difficult for some to focus on maintaining hostile outlooks.
The U.S. has had a long history with Syria and Israel, as the superpower has struggled to keep the two
countries from abusing each other and has, at times, provided the latter with significant financial and
military support. However, U.S. involvement in Israel Syrian relations has declined significantly in the
recent decades, only to emerge in the last few years as a consequence of the fact that the Middle East
currently experiences a serious political crisis.
The U.S. has focused on strengthening relations with Israel ever since the end of the Cold War. In
contrast, the superpower has come to consider that Syria is not necessarily an important actor when
taking into account international affairs and did not invest a great deal of resources in securing a
strong connection with the country. The Clinton Administration picked up foreign relations
consequent to the end of the Cold War and acknowledged that Syria was an actor that needed to be
provided with significant attention by an international body. George W. Bush, however, did understand
the U.S. role in keeping Syrians from expressing interest in extremist ideas. The Bush Administration
s overall policy toward Syria

Control In Night
As a child growing up in Sighet, Eliezer and his family looks much like an ordinary and close knit
family today. That is until they were taken away where all control over life is striped away and as a
result has his destiny chose by chance (Wiesel 22). During his time in Auschwitz, he has no choice of
what he does. His only choice is to fight to survive. Eliezer simply does what he is told, when he is
told, so he is not punished.
Before this however, he has complete control over what he does in life, and it is his choice of studying
Kabbalah (Wiesel 4). He studies the Talmud and adheres to his parents belief in Orthodox Judaism.
During his days Eliezer often goes to prayers and speaks to Moishe about the ways of God. He seems
to be fascinated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An illustration of this is shown when Eliezer gets the infection in his foot, but because of this him and
his father are given the option of staying in Buna or leaving with the others.
Within Night it shows that a normal person has control over their life. While a child Eliezer makes his
own decisions or has his parents make them, his life is controlled by choice. Eliezer in this stage is a
great example of how a person s life is naturally controlled by choice and not chance. However, when
Eliezer is in the concentration camps he has his life chosen by chance. This shows how Eliezer s
choice is stole from him during his time at Buna and Auschwitz.
To conclude, I would like to state, as a boy, Eliezer has control over his life and how he will live it.
But during his containment Eliezer s life is controlled mostly by chance. Eliezer has choice when
young but after being shipped to Buna he had this right stolen from him. Night in its simplest form is a
story of Eliezer losing his choice in life and this being filled by chance. This is shown when Eliezer
says The choice was in our hands. For once. We could decide our fate for ourselves (Wiesel

Socio Political Allegory in Park Chan Wook s Oldboy
10 December 2015
Abstract One of Director Park Chan Wook s most renowned works is the film Oldboy (2003). At face
value, this film appears to be a regular mystery thriller film. However, after further analysis, there are
many parallels to contemporary Korean history and society. These parallels, or allegories, become
more apparent upon review of the film. The film contains references to Korea s tumultuous history
and contemporary culture, highlighting the multiple disappointments felt by the Korean people (Seth).
The main character Oh Dae su also stands in for the average Korean citizen while his adversary, Lee
Woo jin, represents upper class citizens, or chaebols, in Korea. After analyzing these points, this paper
argues that Oldboy does in fact serve as a socio political allegory for problems faced in contemporary
Korea. Problems that are addressed include democratization, class structure and privilege, capitalism,
and the importance of power and money in Korea (Kim).
Socio Political Allegory in Park Chan Wook s Oldboy While films are primarily for entertainment,
they often also stand as an excellent medium for spreading awareness about social issues. It is often
seen in cinema that a small point or effect actually has a much larger meaning. Historically, directors
have used to raise awareness and spread knowledge about social issues.

My Career Goal ( Your Career Goals )
1. Career Goals (Your career goals) She was a five year old girl with skinny chicken legs, oversized
glasses, and the most contagious smile you ve ever seen. Every morning for three years, it was this
smiling face that greeted me with an obnoxious wave and anxious enthusiasm as I drove up a long
gravel driveway to a small farmhouse in Granite Falls, Minnesota. As a teen, I worked as a personal
care assistant for young clients suffering physical and intellectual delays. It was the morning I was
pulling in for my final shift that I recognized that helping this little girl reach her full potential by
aiding in her daily activities was a small stepping stone to reaching my goal of earning my doctorate
degree in nursing. Although it was on that specific day that I determined I would pursue a career in
advanced nursing, I have been in love with learning and the healthcare industry for as long as I can
remember. From learning to ride a bike to starting my first IV, I have always blissfully awaited every
lesson and anxiously sought to conquer its content. My intellectual curiosity has continuously driven
me to seek out more knowledge and I ve regularly employed my focus and commitment skills to grasp
complex issues and ideas. My primary goal for completing the graduate program is to obtain the
knowledge and skills necessary to assume a more autonomous role in healthcare. My hope is that by
attending graduate school, I will be immersed into an intellectual environment surrounded by

Nonverbal Expectance Violation Theory
As I researched various theories, the Nonverbal Expectancy Violation Theory stood out to me the
most. Neuliep (2015) has described this theory as people holding expectancies about the
appropriateness of the nonverbal behaviors of others. The Nonverbal Expectancy Theory (NEV) was
formulated by Dr. Judee Burgoon. Sidelinger and Bolen (2015) states the basic tenet undergirding
NEV theory holds that individuals have expectations of how things will be and how people will
behave. Sidelinger and Bolen also states that expectancy refers to what an individual expects or
predicts will happen in an interaction. When we make an assumption, we are partaking in
expectancies. Burgoon (as cited by Sidelinger and Biolen, 2015) notes that what we expect in an
interaction is based on three factors, context, relationship, and communicator characteristics.
Sidelinger and Bolen (2015) believes that our expectancy can be determined by our environment. For
an example, the way I communicate at the playground with my children is different than how I
communicate at the grocery store. The expectancy of relationships is based on the connection we have
with the person with whom we are interacting with. Finally, Sidelinger and Bolen (2015), states that
communicator characteristics refer to the demographics (gender, age, race etc.) of the other in the
interaction and additional characteristics such as the other s communication style.
Additionally, the perception of how we view someone plays a role in how we expect them to react or
interact. If I am playing with a Poodle, I expect it to be fun, playful, and bubbly. If I am playing with a
Rottweiler, I expect it to be aggressive and assertive. While these are my expectancy of the dogs it
could turn out to be the opposite of my assumption. There are two types of expectancies. Predictive
and prescriptive. Offering a counterpoint to this perspective is nonverbal expectancy violations theory,
which posits that violating social norms and expectations may sometimes be a superior strategy to
conformity in achieving such communication outcomes as attraction, credibility, helping behavior, and
persuasion, Burgoon and Aho,; Burgoon, Coker, and Coker, Burgoon and Hale; Burgoon and Jones;

Essay Joseph Heller s Catch 22 and World War II
In all of history, no war seems to have touched the minds of people everywhere as much as World War
II has. This war brought about some of the worst violations of human rights ever seen. The German
military created a system for the public to follow, and if the individual opposed, he was oppressed.
This kind of mentality is presented in the novel, Catch 22 (1955).
Joseph Heller uses the insane situations of the setting and his characters to show a unique perspective
on World War II.
A small Army Air Corps base serves as the setting for Catch 22. It is set on a fictitious island called
Pianosa. The island is described as very small and is located in ... Show more content on

This is why the military is able to make the soldiers do whatever they want them to do. The characters
are persuaded to believe in the system rather than oppose it. Yossarian seems to be the only one who
sees the insanity of this situation.
This scenario is almost like the one initiated by Adolph Hitler in Germany at this time.
Hitler saw the people of Germany as impressionable and easily swayed. He used propaganda to make
them do whatever he wanted. It was through this course of action that 6 million Jewish people were
mass murdered. Heller makes it all the more ironic that this same kind of mentality is being used by
the American military in his novel, and he projects his attitude towards war through this irony. Heller
portrays the military as a self contradictory and oppressive force. He sees the military as taking away a
soldier s individuality.
The struggle for individuality by each character is evident throughout the novel. Their experiences
make the scenario believable to the reader. Each character represents an attitude in the system. Milo
Minderbinder and Colonel Cathcart are great representatives of the military. To them, the soldiers are
seen as tools to further their careers. Milo Minderbinder, a military authority figure, is in charge of
business decisions made during the war. He uses his powers to create a syndicate called the

The Life Of Prophet Muhammad
Amine Lehachi
Islamic History 1100
Mrs. Jorati
September 20th, 2015 The Life of Prophet Muhammad
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH Peace be upon him) is the messenger of God in Islam. He was born
in the city of Makkah (Mecca) in the Arabian Peninsula around 570 CE. Many historians believe he
became an orphan at a very early age. The Arabian Peninsula at the time had no law or order; people
were described as savages for their ill customs and traditions. People of Arabia worshipped idols and
ancient Arabian religions; some were also Christian and Jewish. When it came to religion people were
divided in the region, people were divided into tribes and had different sets of beliefs. Prophet
Muhammad set to change this, he wanted to unify the region and establish an independent nation.
Before he started his Prophecy he married an older woman, a widow named Khadijah, for whom he
had worked for in the caravan trade. When he was a merchant, he was known as al Amin, the trusted
one. When Prophet Muhammad was forty years old, he had a profound experience that really changed
his life. In this essay I will evaluate the significant events of his career starting with The First
revelation; The migration to Medina and lastly the great Battle of Badr. These significant events play
an important role on how the foundation of a newly reformed monotheistic religion called Islam came
to be.
A significant event that really changed the course of his life was when Prophet Muhammad was 40
years old.

Color In Ex Machina
Akhil John
Professor Scott
Humanities 200
8 November 2015
Ex Machina: The role of Color The movie Ex Machina directed by Alex Garland portrayed what true
artificial intelligence would be like and how that would affect the human race. Garland s work with Ex
Machina painted a picture on what true Artificial Intelligence would be like, a self aware, thinking,
manipulative robot that have traits highly resembling human traits and character that highly resembles
human character. Garland uses color in very subtle ways to add to the complexity of his masterpiece
making his movie have deeper meaning. In the movie Garland uses color, in order to convey the
traditional expressions of each character and the plot as a whole. The use of the color of t shirt a caleb
is wearing at a certain point brings about the detail in his feelings and the expression he has. For
instance Caleb initially is seen to wear a blue and red t shirt. The juxtaposition of red and blue which
is seen throughout the film highlights to what extent a character feels uncertain and anxious. This is
evident as after Caleb has won the competition , he is unsure how to feel and is nervous. As Caleb gets
the job, he starts wearing a lot of blue toned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

is shown wearing white clothes which suggests purity, peace and love when discussing with Caleb
about his research on Ava showing how he is passionate about his work but also shows that he is

Citizen Soldiers Chapter 14 Analysis
CH 14 On chapter 14 Ambrose talks about many things that had happened in his life. The first topic of
chapter 14 was his writing skills. He tries to answer the question that many people ask him how do
you write so good. He answers with it s just a lot of hard work. Then he is sometimes asked what is
his best book that he has written, and Ambrose responds with it is usually his last published book that
is the best. Then Ambrose talks about Moria and how she has helped him with his writing, also how he
sometimes gets things directly from her to help him with his writing. That is when he does the
transition to talking about some of the books that he has written. That leads to the travels that he had
and that lead to the publishing of the book Undaunted Courage. Ambrose then talk about the trips that
he had with his family following the Lewis and Clark trail. After that he talks about what happens in 3
of his books. The book Citizen Soldiers is about Soldiers in Europe during the second world war. The
book was a sequel to D Day. The book was a combination of accounts of soldiers that were in the

Mesopotamia Essay
One geographical area in which civilization first developed would be Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia in
Greek means between two rivers. Mesopotamia was located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in
the Fertile Crescent region. I think that a complex society emerged in Mesopotamia because
Mesopotamia is between two rivers. That would provide the civilization with food, transportation and
trade. According to the World History volume I, the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers supplied water and
food because of the violent floods (Wallech et al., 2013, p. 33). The rivers provided food because there
are some animals that stays in the water and many animals on land would go to the rivers for water.
The rivers provided fresh water for farming and irrigation.

Atticus Finch As A Positive Law
Does Atticus Finch demonstrate the virtues of natural law or positive law theories?
Riyaadh Amanjee
201202174
This essay begins with an outline of natural law and positive law. It then goes on to analyse whether
Atticus Finch demonstrates values of positive or natural law. This analysis is achieved examining the
virtues, behaviour and characteristics of Atticus Finch, the appropriate theory of law and the criticism
which it has received. The essay then concludes by ??????
Legal positivism is generally based on the principle that Law and morality is distinct and that the
validity of a rule depends more on its sources, while Natural law would be more inclined to favour
features of reasonableness and the link between morality and law. There are two predominant groups

Wilhelm Nietzsche Research Paper
Life
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was a 19th Century German philosopher, philologist and a founder of
Existentialism. He was born on October 15, 1844 in Röcken bei Lützen, Prussia (modern day
Germany). ( Friedrich Nietzsche )
After graduating high school in 1864, Nietzsche studied theology and classical philology at the
University of Bonn and even had thoughts of joining the priesthood. One semester later, however, he
quit his theological studies, renounced religion and shifted his focus to philology. Through his
readings of various philosophical works and Europe s growing interest with science, Darwinism, and
the overall rejection of tradition, Nietzsche began to pursue philosophy. In 1868, he graduated and

The Übermensch is the person who lives life to the full according to his own values, a free spirit,
uninhibited and confident. The Übermensch is mankind pursuing a new way ahead in total freedom
and without the need for God. This idea is shared in existentialist view of the importance of the
personal development of morals. It also touches on the idea that since there is no God, embracing
existence is the only way to counter this nothingness. In addition, in the concept of the Übermensch

African Americans: Conservative Democrats
It is no secret that African Americans are a majority democratic race. Most follow blindly behind
democrats because of their families influence over the years. However common views of African
Americans align with those of republicans. In the recent years republicans have came off as anti black
or systematically racist which is what deterred African Americans away. This report will take a close
look at the relationship between African Americans and conservatives relationships through time. The

As you can see on the chart African Americans side more with republicans in social issues than
democrats, the only exception being in the subject of the death penalty. If this is the case then why do
African Americans vote majority democratic one may ask. Well, the history of republicanism has
changed dramatically over time. The
Republican Party started with Abraham Lincoln who actually freed the slaves.
And they continued to create laws to help African Americans for years after.
Republican Ulysses Grant implemented the Enforcement Act of 1870 and 1871 that dismantled the
KKK and helped black voting rights. Later republican president Eisenhower pushed the civil rights act
of 1957 and 1960 in the Brown
v. Board of education case he called the National guards to protect African
American students. While democrats who until recently were pro slavery and pro segregation started
with president Andrew Jackson who vetoed civil rights acts in 1866 and was against the 14th
amendment. Continuing with Woodrow Wilson who declared that segregation was not a humiliation,
but benefit in 1919. However democrats progressed to a major turnaround in civil rights views.
Democratic president Harry Truman passed executive orders to eliminate segregation among federal
employees. Then President Lyndon Johnson oversaw passages of civil rights in 1964 as well as voting
rights in 1967. He also appointed Thurgood

However, careful consideration should be given on the application of the new Mexican guidance as
differences could arise in practice. Expense recognitionemployee benefits Under IFRS, companies
may elect to account for actuarial gains/losses in a manner such that the gains/losses are permanently
excluded from the primary statement of operations. Differing restrictions over how assets are valued
for the purposes of determining expected returns on plan assets exist under IFRS. IFRS allows for the
separation of certain components of net pension costs whereas US GAAP and Mexican FRS do not.
The interest cost and return on assets components of pension cost may be reported as part of financing

result in assets being impaired earlier under IFRS and Mexican FRS. However, there are certain
differences on the impairment testing under the three frameworks. The broad based requirement to
capitalize development costs under IFRS and Mexican FRS (when certain criteria are met) creates the
potential for differences compared with US GAAP, wherein development costs are generally expensed
as incurred. IFRS prohibits (whereas US GAAP and Mexican FRS permit) the use of the lastin, first

Cause Of Major Depressive Disorder
Aetiology
The exact causes of major depressive disorder are extremely complex and cannot be attributed to a
single genetic, social, environmental or developmental theory. It is a multifactorial and heterogeneous
disorder involving several factors which are simultaneously linked to the development or precipitation
of the disorder. The symptoms which are linked to the disorder reflect changes in the monoamine
neurotransmitters of the brain, more specifically noradrenaline, serotonin and dopamine. Variations in
the genes which are responsible for encoding serotonin transporter proteins account for early
childhood experiences being translated into an increased risk of major depressive disorder through
stress sensitivity in adulthood.

Essay on Schindler s List
Schindler s List
Schindler s List is one of the most powerful movies of all time. It presents the indelible true story of
enigmatic German businessman Oskar Schindler who becomes an unlikely saviour of more than 1100
Jews amid the barbaric Nazi reign. A German Catholic war profiteer, Schindler moved to Krakow in
1939 when Germany overran Poland. There he opens an enamelware factory that, on the advice of his
Jewish accountant Itzhak Stern, was staffed by Jews from the nearby forced labour camp at Plaszow.
Schindler s factory prospered though his contacts with the Nazi war machine and its local
representatives, as well as his deft skill on the black market. Then, somewhere along the way,
Schindler s devotion to self interest was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To think that this self centred man would become known for a shining moment of salvation for so
many is almost beyond belief. Oskar Schindler is not a humanitarian or a force for ?good? in the
typical sense. He is depicted within the film as a man that simply found himself in a unique position
and rose to the occasion. Evil on the other hand, is epitomised throughout the film by the actions of
those involved in the Nazi regime, in particular Amon Goeth who was in charge of the forced labour
camp at Plaszow.
However, emotion is not only conveyed through the actions of the main characters. Colour also has a
significant impact on how good and evil is portrayed within the film. Perhaps the most moving image
in Steven Spielberg?s epic, Schindler?s List, condenses all of the sadism of the Nazi regime into one
small pictorial area. One of only four colour images in a black and white film spanning over three
hours, the little girl in a red coat, making her way, aimless and alone through the madness and chaos,
compels Schindler?s attention during the liquidation of the Jewish ghetto. Schindler identifies with the
child, the plight of the little girl touches him in a way the sheer numbers make unreal ? this image
transforms the faceless mass around him into one palpable human being. This figure serves as a moral
reawakening for Schindler, his conscience consequently kicks into gear. The poignant yet subtle
musical score also adds to the haunting atmosphere created by the

Personal Bias In Research
Facts are statements that are indisputably true. Truthful statements are authentic because they are
widely accepted to be accurate and fit reality. When answering the question given access to the same
facts , how is it possible that there can be disagreements between experts in a discipline? , one must
consider the definition of an expert. For the sake of this paper I am defining an expert as someone who
excels in their field , and constantly evolves their knowledge as their field progresses. I believe that
disagreements between experts when presented with the same facts, occur because of bias. Bias is a
sway towards one side or view of a situation or statement. Therefore I ask , how does someone s

Attitude And Sense Of Power In The Little Rock Nine
A person s place in society is decided by those who have power, nevertheless how one perceives
themselves influences that status. Looking deeply into the causes of Minnijean Brown s expulsion, it
is revealed that challenging episodes and the unjust actions of others all contributed towards the abrupt
end of her tormented days at Little Rock Central High School. If Minnijean had not faced the
prejudice and hatred so prevalent in the South during the late 1950 s, it is safe to say she would not
have felt the need to retaliate. At the start of the analysis, the documentary suggests that Minnijean is
expelled because she dumps chili on a white student s head; however, further investigation reveals
there is more to the story, and additional documentation indicates that the expulsion has less to do with
a specific incident and more to do with Minnijean s attitude and sense of place.
In the 1987, Eyes on the Prize, it is conveyed that Minnijean Brown is expelled from school when she
dumps a bowl of chili on a white student s head, knowing she would be facing consequences. Ernest
Green of the Little Rock Nine recollects, It was the first time that anybody . . . had seen someone
black retaliate in that sense (Doc. A). Even though Minnijean was the only one in control of her
actions, she had been harrassed for months, students calling her an n word. So when a white boy
decided to hound her in the lunch line, it can be interpreted that she was on her last straw. Craig Rains,

Social Media Can Destroy Socialization
Social Media Can Destroy Socialization Science and technology has become a catalyst for human
development. In recent years, the introduction of computers and the internet has dramatically changed
the way we live and interact. From medical discoveries to transportation innovation, information
access to space exploration, the internet provided most of the changes in our society at least in the last
two decades. However, one possible outcome of such modification may be seen negatively as social
networking sites, particularly Facebook, has corroded the real essence of a community. What makes
Facebook corrosive to a real community? Fake Confidence People usually have joined Facebook due
to their friends invitation, peer pressure or simply out of curiosity. In regards with how users behave
on the social networking site, there are some instances when they tend to get some form of satisfaction
when someone Like whatever they posted on their accounts. In one study, it was even insinuated that
the use of Facebook may boost self esteem only to be a victim of unable to control emotions later on
(Huffington, 2013). A Facebook user who has recently seen some rise in confidence may tend to crave
more attention by posting everything about him or herself. This uncontrollable activity may lead to an
experience of a superficial confidence online which may not translate in the real world. Since
Facebook users only view the number of likes from what they have posted, they are not really

There are numerous debates in regards to developmental psychology. One of the main debates to

This theory focuses solely on children s cognitive development so that is both a strength and a
weakness as it gets an in depth understanding of children s cognitive processes however it cannot be
generalised to adults. Another strength of this theory is the fact that it can be applied practically within
the real world, especially in regards to education as it means children can be taught based upon their
developmental stage. It is extremely useful in that sense as it is nomothetic so it can be applied to
larger population. The theory contains both continuous and discontinuous, it is discontinuous as it
contains distinct hierarchal stages. It is good in one sense as it allows professionals to see if a child is
meeting the stages and if they do not action can be taken. At the same time it can be disadvantageous
as professionals, such as teachers may not push a child to reach their full cognitive capabilities as they
have met the criteria for their age. At the time this was quite revolutionary as children were once
considered little adults that only has a slightly less mental and developmental capacity. Therefore they
may not have learnt as effective as they could, as they may have been taught above or below their
capacity. However with that said it has been suggested that his stages of

Stonewall Jackson Qualities Of Leadership
Elizabeth Helton Stonewall Jackson in the Shenandoah Valley: A leadership analysis Among the ranks
during the American Civil War stood men such as Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant that will be
forever remembered for their leadership qualities. One such man earned his nickname, fame, and
popularity during the Civil War as a Confederate general. Thomas Jackson, more commonly known as
Stonewall Jackson, was a brilliant leader who gained the admiration of all who came to know him. He
gained his popularity from his famous Shenandoah Valley campaign in 1862. With integrity beyond
reproach, he successfully provided direction, purpose (though skeptical), and motivation to those
serving below him during the Valley Campaign.
A native born Virginian, Jackson felt that when it came to war, one must fight with all vigor (Wilkins
347), and fight with all vigor is what Jackson did until his death in 1863. He rarely slept or rested, but
instead trudged wearily along with his men. On first appearances and perceptions, Stonewall Jackson
was commonly underestimated. For instance, Jackson s brilliance was often mistaken for insanity.
Richard Taylor called Jackson a damned old crazy fool. A staff officer reportedly said later that when
we ordinary mortals can t comprehend a genius we get even with him by calling him crazy (Gallagher
311). However, the battles fought in the Shenandoah Valley changed the perception of Thomas
Jackson on almost every front.

Furthermore UK consumers are the one of the largest frozen food buyers globally and Picard has a
leading home delivery channel already established in 6 countries from online and telephone orders. It
is therefore concluded that the UK is an attractive proposition for Picard. 2. INTRODUCTION In
these straitened economic times, frozen food is a sector that is growing as consumers recognise two
main factors. Firstly it offers value for money, and secondly it helps to reduce food waste. The UK
frozen food market is worth around £5.1 billion a year and accounts for 8% of the UK Grocery
Industry (Kantar Worldpanel, 2010). Although in 2010 the market remained flat, it has shown 11.3%
value growth between 2007 2010, with indication that the market will continue to grow this year. [pic]

An Analysis of How Fear of the Unknown Affects Characters...
An Analysis of How Fear of the Unknown Affects Characters in Hamlet
Hamlet s famous To be or not to be soliloquy in Act 3, Scene 1 provides the context for several of the
characters actions. It is a soliloquy about fearing the unknown that lies waiting on the other side of the
grave (are we punished and/or rewarded according to our actions on earth?) and as Hamlet reasons,
Conscience does make cowards of us all (3.1.2). In other words, Hamlet feels that he is unable to act
because of the haunting voice of doubt inside him. He doubts that he would find peace in the afterlife
should he kill himself. He doubts the events he sees before his very eyes and so cannot exact revenge
as the spirit of his father urges him to do. Yet, as Hamlet begins to unravel, other characters expose
their doubts as well, revealing how they too are troubled by the unknown. King Claudius reveals his
troubled conscience after witnessing the play and wonders what he has done; Hamlet s mother tries to
block out the reality of the situation she has entered into when Hamlet attacks her with what he knows
(not knowing is better than knowing, she feels). This paper will examine the ways in which the
unknown affects the actions of the characters in Hamlet and show that at the heart of each character is
an unwillingness to confront the unknown (which is oftentimes themselves). Fear of the unknown
arises in the very beginning scene of the play with the appearance of the ghost of Hamlet s father.

1)Why Did The Philosophes Place Freedom Of Expression At
1) Why did the philosophes place freedom of expression at the center of their system of values?
The theories of the enlightenment were centered around five basic concepts: reason, science, progress,
liberty, and toleration. These lead themselves into thinking of the world in Realist terms. We must look
at the universe and understand it from what we can see. A common train of thought was that humanity
had grown far too comfortable depending on history and facts as they were retold. One no longer
thought for themselves. Progress had been constrained by social and political institutions that did not
reflect humanities natural goodness and capacity for material and moral improvement. Humans were
prone to relying on emotions rather than reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
when the discussion of impoverishment shifted towards a politico economic outcome rather than the
manifestation of a natural order, poverty was regarded as necessary. It was terrible for those forced to
live in it, but it kept the economy running by providing lots of cheap labor. Poverty also often meant
uneducated. An uneducated public was easy to control and ignorant of the effects that the aristocracy
were having. The uneducated are likely to work for low wages, even more so if they are already
impoverished. This allows the wealthy to exploit large groups of people without much effort or
money. There was an enforced idea that God had placed oneself into such a position and it was not
their job to raise themselves up, but to accept and be content. Poverty was seen as a necessary evil, a
kind of darkness that contrasted the wealth of the central civilization. For one very wealthy man, there
are many, many, poor but it is their burden to bear to balance the order of things.
3) The French Revolution destroyed the French monarchy in order to strengthen the French state.
Explain this paradox. The French polity, previously an absolute monarchy with feudal privileges for
the aristocracy and catholic clergy, underwent radical change to forms based on the enlightenment
principles of republicanism, citizenship, and rights. The revolution was aimed at the destruction of
aristocratic society, and the structure it supported in an effort to create a more autonomous

Jean M. TwengeHave Smartphones Destroyed A Generation
The invention of the smartphone has drastically changed every part of a teenager s life, from their
social life to their mental health. These shifts have hurt young people in every part of the nation and in
every family dynamic. From the decline of social interaction with their peers, to an increase of mental
illnesses such as depression, the use of cell phones have lead to the correlation between these
epidemics. There are some positives to this situation; teens nowadays are safer and don t go out as
much, and more teens are having less sex, thus leading to lower teen pregnancy rates. In the article,
Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation, Jean M. Twenge effectively argues that smartphones have
had a negative impact on teen s social lives by making them more prone to being antisocial; however,
she is incorrect when she argues that smartphones have a negative impact on mental health and
independency because correlation does not equal causation. The fact that teens of this generation are
being more antisocial than in the past is vividly shown throughout society. This claim is mainly stated
while Twenge is talking to a 13 year old girl named Athena. Much like any other average American
teenage girl, Athena enjoys pastimes such as watching Netflix, going to the mall with friends,
browsing the internet, and much more. Although these all sound like fun things to do, they all have
one thing in common: teens are not spending quality time with anyone while doing these activities.
Now, going to the mall does require you being with someone face to face, but the majority of the time
that teens spend with each other is on their phone. They re usually on some social media app,
capturing the entire event of being together, or they re talking to other people that are not there instead
of speaking to people face to face. As Athena states, I think we like our phones more than we like
actual people (pg.2). This rings true to prove the fact that to some teens, there is no need to wonder
outside of their comfortable beds to socialize; their friends are just one quick text, Snapchat, or phone
call away. The more we stay in our bed on our phones, the more we will want to spend time alone than
with other people, which can

The Paul Of The Apostle Paul
The apostle Paul was known to many as Saul of Tarsus. There is no doubt he was born to Jewish
parents whose residence was in the city of Tarsus of Cilicia. In the Book of Acts 23:6, his own
admission relates that he was a Hebrew of Hebrews, but he was also a son of a Pharisee. In Phil. 3:4 5,
Paul states that he was from the tribe of Benjamin. At an early age, Paul was taught in tent making
according to Acts 18:3. At an early age, he was sent to Jerusalem to study under a well known teacher
by the name of Gamaliel (Acts 22:3). Paul was an expert in the Jewish religion, which he followed
through his family (Gal. 1:14). Once Paul graduated, he became a very zealous religious Jew. The aim
of Paul s trade was to see the church persecuted. In Acts 7:58 83, readers are reminded that Paul was
present when Stephen was stoned and killed. Saul carried a warrant from the High Priest so he could
go against the people of the early Christian church (Acts 26:10 11). Paul might have been a Roman
citizen, but he was cultured in the Greek way of doing things. This can be found in Acts 17:28. Paul
knew the mindset of many Greek thoughts and sayings in his time. The conversion of Saul to Paul was
a dramatic one. In one of his missions on the road to Damascus, Paul encounters the risen Jesus Christ,
which changed his entire life from then on. He was never the same person that people had known
before. Jesus enters into Paul s life and he decides to dedicate the rest of his life for the service

Fluoridation Of Drinking Water Essay
Chemistry and Health: Fluoridation of Drinking Water Chemistry is a significant aspect in our lives;
everything around us is made up of matter and the different forms of matter are what make it possible
for us to breathe and survive (Nivaldo, 2018, p. 67). Scientists study chemistry based on how it occurs
in our everyday lives, health, and in the environment that we live in. Furthermore, chemistry plays a
huge role in health in a sense of what is good and bad for the body, or why the body is reacting to a
certain substance in the way that it is. Teeth are a vital part of the human body; they help us chew our
food so that we are able to swallow, not to mention that they are the first thing that a person looks at
when they meet you, if you are smiling of course. So many people are not given the teeth that they

brushes their teeth daily, but it can also depend on the things a person is eating or drinking as well. In

pregnancy (Dictionary, 2016). Abortion in Australia has always been regulated by state law. However,
previously before the end of the 19th century, each colony had adopted the ... Show more content on

It was also found that religious belief and support for legal abortion are not mutually exclusive, with
77% of those who identify as religious also support a woman s right to choose (Children by Choice,
2012).
The attitudes towards abortion have changed over the years. Since the 1980 s, opinion polls have
shown that majority of Australians support abortion rights. In 1987 a poll conducted by Saulwick
indicated about 7% of Australians would not approve of abortions under any circumstances. However,
an ACNielsen poll in 2005 reported that 56% thought the current abortion laws, which generally allow
abortion for the sake of life, health or economic factors, were fine, while 16% wanted a change in
making abortion more accessible and 17% wanting to make changes to make it less accessible
(Grattan, 2005).
The debate regarding abortion among religions has been prominent for centuries. Many religions have
different historical perspectives on the immorality of abortion, on whether it can ever be permitted,
and how believers should respond (Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, 2016). Buddhism
regard abortion as morally wrong as it involves the deliberate destroying of a life. However, the Dalai
Lama has spoken in favour of abortion under certain circumstances. He stated,
Of course, abortion, from a Buddhist viewpoint, is an act of killing and is negative,

Shaping Colonial America Essay
Many different things affected the shaping of colonial America in the new world. Factors such as
colonialism, geography, and religion affected the way North America was formed and dictated how
other people look at colonial America. Colonialism affected America s demographic and also the ease
of forming colonies in the new world. Geography also played a roll in shaping the identity of America.
Geography affected where people settled based on the layout of rivers, ocean, and waterways. People
also settled in places where they could grow crops. Geography also attracted colonists. Finally,
religion affected the forming of colonial America. People were driven from England because of
religion. Also, religion affected where people settled down. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Boston, which at that time was called Shawmut, was settled on a peninsula that jutted out into the bay.
People also settled along water for military reasons. Take for example, Jamestown, Virginia, which
was settled some 60 miles up the James River, on a peninsula. Here there was a good view up and
down the river, which made it easy to defend attacks by land or water. New Amsterdam, which is
present day New York, was another colony that settled on the waterfront for military reasons. New
Amsterdam settled on a island, which is present day Manhattan, with a good view in all directions.
This made it easy to defend. Even more colonies were settled along water in colonial America. In the
17th century, several European countries founded settlements along the St. Lawrence River. The
waterways were also a major reason why France and England originally came to North America. Two
dreams originally attracted France and England to North America; kingdoms rich with gold, and a
water route to Asia. All in all, rivers and oceans played a major role in the settling of America.
Without them, the United States would look much different today.
The ability to grow crops also helped shape the identity of America. The crops in America were able
to feed large numbers of people, which attracted colonists. (Eventually, these crops were introduced
worldwide, which was part of the reason the world s population quadrupled in the next three hundred
years.)

  • 2. Reflection On Organizational Change I first off would like to start by saying these past 8 weeks have been a great experience! I have been able to learn and gain new skills and tools that will not only help me in the rest of my schooling, but will be very beneficial when it comes to my career. I have really enjoyed getting to see all different experiences out there and a variety of perspectives on what one has done or not when in that situation. It certainly has opened my eyes up to the world and I feel I am more aware and ready for what might come my way now. Although after reading the Let s Drive a Stake In the Heart of the Industrial Age! you never really know what s going to happen next. I plan to use all the OB tools that I have been able to learn about in this term to assist the transformational process in organizational models. Using these tools will help this process go more smoothly and make it easier not only for the company but for the employees and customers. The transformational process in any company is hard and can be very challenging during a time like this. I believe that change is challenging just from my experiences and that it can take more time than one thinks or wants it to. I personally am not a fan of change, so when there is a change going on in my personal or professional life I hope it is quick and easy (which it is rarely ever). I have learned though change is good. As much as I may hate it, it is necessary and it cannot be avoided. I learned these past weeks and have seen examples where some individuals in a company will resist change, even leaders, and that is where I find the OB tools to help and make the change as easy as possible for everyone in the company. I know this is something I will do to assist the transformational process in organizational models in my future company. I will use the strategies we have learned in this course to help and be more effective. One concept in this course I have learned and it has stuck with me is focusing on employees. Without good relationships with employees and making sure they are happy and acknowledged the work within the company will not get done effectively and efficiently. As a manager, I will make sure that all employees are managed, able to express their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Self Assessment I was able to take three assessments that were able to tell me about my interests, skills, possible jobs and education degrees that I could potentially pursue. The names of the three assessments are the: Strong Interest Inventory, Myers Briggs Type Indicator and StrenghtsQuest. I m going to take a look at my results for each assessment and compare the similarities as well as the contrast. The highest themes that were measured for me in the Strong Interest Inventory were the: Enterprising, Conventional and Artistic. It s broken down into four categories which are Interests, work activities, potential skills and values. For Enterprising, I felt that all four categories sum up me. The assessment picked up on my leadership quality, ability to motivate and direct others. The conventional theme did pick up that I have values of accuracy, stability, efficiency and paying attention to details. It also said that I m interested in organization and setting up procedures which is very true. That s thing at my current job that bothers me the most. The one thing I didn t agree with is that I m in record keeping and I m not the best at that. The Artistic theme was spot on as far as my interests and values. My interests were self expression, art appreciation, communication and culture. The values were beauty, originality, independence and imagination. US and the Cold War Era While the U.S. maintained a relatively confusing agenda regarding foreign policies during the Cold War era, its attitudes are clearer in the present as globalization has strengthened connections between all international actors and made it more difficult for some to focus on maintaining hostile outlooks. The U.S. has had a long history with Syria and Israel, as the superpower has struggled to keep the two countries from abusing each other and has, at times, provided the latter with significant financial and military support. However, U.S. involvement in Israel Syrian relations has declined significantly in the recent decades, only to emerge in the last few years as a consequence of the fact that the Middle East currently experiences a serious political crisis. The U.S. has focused on strengthening relations with Israel ever since the end of the Cold War. In contrast, the superpower has come to consider that Syria is not necessarily an important actor when taking into account international affairs and did not invest a great deal of resources in securing a strong connection with the country. The Clinton Administration picked up foreign relations consequent to the end of the Cold War and acknowledged that Syria was an actor that needed to be provided with significant attention by an international body. George W. Bush, however, did understand the U.S. role in keeping Syrians from expressing interest in extremist ideas. The Bush Administration s overall policy toward Syria ... That is until they were taken away where all control over life is striped away and as a result has his destiny chose by chance (Wiesel 22). During his time in Auschwitz, he has no choice of what he does. His only choice is to fight to survive. Eliezer simply does what he is told, when he is told, so he is not punished. Before this however, he has complete control over what he does in life, and it is his choice of studying Kabbalah (Wiesel 4). Eliezer in this stage is a great example of how a person s life is naturally controlled by choice and not chance. However, when Eliezer is in the concentration camps he has his life chosen by chance. This shows how Eliezer s choice is stole from him during his time at Buna and Auschwitz. To conclude, I would like to state, as a boy, Eliezer has control over his life and how he will live it. But during his containment Eliezer s life is controlled mostly by chance. Eliezer has choice when young but after being shipped to Buna he had this right stolen from him. Socio Political Allegory Of Park Chan Wook s Oldboy Mehtasim Mahfuz CCS 394 Professor Pi Ju Liang Socio Political Allegory in Park Chan Wook s Oldboy 10 December 2015 Abstract One of Director Park Chan Wook s most renowned works is the film Oldboy (2003). At face value, this film appears to be a regular mystery thriller film. However, after further analysis, there are many parallels to contemporary Korean history and society. These parallels, or allegories, become more apparent upon review of the film. The film contains references to Korea s tumultuous history and contemporary culture, highlighting the multiple disappointments felt by the Korean people (Seth). The main character Oh Dae su also stands in for the average Korean citizen while his adversary, Lee Woo jin, represents upper class citizens, or chaebols, in Korea. After analyzing these points, this paper argues that Oldboy does in fact serve as a socio political allegory for problems faced in contemporary Korea. Problems that are addressed include democratization, class structure and privilege, capitalism, and the importance of power and money in Korea (Kim). Socio Political Allegory in Park Chan Wook s Oldboy While films are primarily for entertainment, they often also stand as an excellent medium for spreading awareness about social issues. It is often seen in cinema that a small point or effect actually has a much larger meaning. Historically, directors have used to raise awareness and spread knowledge about social issues. ... • 12. Nonverbal Expectance Violation Theory As I researched various theories, the Nonverbal Expectancy Violation Theory stood out to me the most. Neuliep (2015) has described this theory as people holding expectancies about the appropriateness of the nonverbal behaviors of others. The Nonverbal Expectancy Theory (NEV) was formulated by Dr. Judee Burgoon. Sidelinger and Bolen (2015) states the basic tenet undergirding NEV theory holds that individuals have expectations of how things will be and how people will behave. Sidelinger and Bolen also states that expectancy refers to what an individual expects or predicts will happen in an interaction. When we make an assumption, we are partaking in expectancies. Burgoon (as cited by Sidelinger and Biolen, 2015) notes that what we expect in an interaction is based on three factors, context, relationship, and communicator characteristics. Sidelinger and Bolen (2015) believes that our expectancy can be determined by our environment. For an example, the way I communicate at the playground with my children is different than how I communicate at the grocery store. The expectancy of relationships is based on the connection we have with the person with whom we are interacting with. Finally, Sidelinger and Bolen (2015), states that communicator characteristics refer to the demographics (gender, age, race etc.) of the other in the interaction and additional characteristics such as the other s communication style. Additionally, the perception of how we view someone plays a role in how we expect them to react or interact. If I am playing with a Poodle, I expect it to be fun, playful, and bubbly. If I am playing with a Rottweiler, I expect it to be aggressive and assertive. While these are my expectancy of the dogs it could turn out to be the opposite of my assumption. There are two types of expectancies. Predictive and prescriptive. Offering a counterpoint to this perspective is nonverbal expectancy violations theory, which posits that violating social norms and expectations may sometimes be a superior strategy to conformity in achieving such communication outcomes as attraction, credibility, helping behavior, and persuasion, Burgoon and Aho,; Burgoon, Coker, and Coker, Burgoon and Hale; Burgoon and Jones; Burgoon, ... This war brought about some of the worst violations of human rights ever seen. The German military created a system for the public to follow, and if the individual opposed, he was oppressed. This kind of mentality is presented in the novel, Catch 22 (1955). Joseph Heller uses the insane situations of the setting and his characters to show a unique perspective on World War II. The characters are persuaded to believe in the system rather than oppose it. Yossarian seems to be the only one who sees the insanity of this situation. He used propaganda to make them do whatever he wanted. It was through this course of action that 6 million Jewish people were mass murdered. Heller makes it all the more ironic that this same kind of mentality is being used by the American military in his novel, and he projects his attitude towards war through this irony. Heller portrays the military as a self contradictory and oppressive force. He sees the military as taking away a soldier s individuality. The struggle for individuality by each character is evident throughout the novel. Their experiences make the scenario believable to the reader. Each character represents an attitude in the system. He was born in the city of Makkah (Mecca) in the Arabian Peninsula around 570 CE. Many historians believe he became an orphan at a very early age. The Arabian Peninsula at the time had no law or order; people were described as savages for their ill customs and traditions. When it came to religion people were divided in the region, people were divided into tribes and had different sets of beliefs. In the movie Garland uses color, in order to convey the traditional expressions of each character and the plot as a whole. The symptoms which are linked to the disorder reflect changes in the monoamine neurotransmitters of the brain, more specifically noradrenaline, serotonin and dopamine. There he opens an enamelware factory that, on the advice of his Jewish accountant Itzhak Stern, was staffed by Jews from the nearby forced labour camp at Plaszow. To think that this self centred man would become known for a shining moment of salvation for so many is almost beyond belief. Oskar Schindler is not a humanitarian or a force for ?good? in the typical sense. He is depicted within the film as a man that simply found himself in a unique position and rose to the occasion. Evil on the other hand, is epitomised throughout the film by the actions of those involved in the Nazi regime, in particular Amon Goeth who was in charge of the forced labour camp at Plaszow. However, emotion is not only conveyed through the actions of the main characters. Colour also has a significant impact on how good and evil is portrayed within the film. Perhaps the most moving image in Steven Spielberg?s epic, Schindler?s List, condenses all of the sadism of the Nazi regime into one small pictorial area. One of only four colour images in a black and white film spanning over three hours, the little girl in a red coat, making her way, aimless and alone through the madness and chaos, compels Schindler?s attention during the liquidation of the Jewish ghetto. Schindler identifies with the child, the plight of the little girl touches him in a way the sheer numbers make unreal ? this image transforms the faceless mass around him into one palpable human being. This figure serves as a moral reawakening for Schindler, his conscience consequently kicks into gear. The poignant yet subtle musical score also adds to the haunting atmosphere created by the ... Looking deeply into the causes of Minnijean Brown s expulsion, it is revealed that challenging episodes and the unjust actions of others all contributed towards the abrupt end of her tormented days at Little Rock Central High School. If Minnijean had not faced the prejudice and hatred so prevalent in the South during the late 1950 s, it is safe to say she would not have felt the need to retaliate. At the start of the analysis, the documentary suggests that Minnijean is expelled because she dumps chili on a white student s head; however, further investigation reveals there is more to the story, and additional documentation indicates that the expulsion has less to do with a specific incident and more to do with Minnijean s attitude and sense of place. In the 1987, Eyes on the Prize, it is conveyed that Minnijean Brown is expelled from school when she dumps a bowl of chili on a white student s head, knowing she would be facing consequences. Ernest Green of the Little Rock Nine recollects, It was the first time that anybody . . . had seen someone black retaliate in that sense (Doc. A). It is extremely useful in that sense as it is nomothetic so it can be applied to larger population. It is good in one sense as it allows professionals to see if a child is meeting the stages and if they do not action can be taken. At the same time it can be disadvantageous as professionals, such as teachers may not push a child to reach their full cognitive capabilities as they have met the criteria for their age. Thomas Jackson, more commonly known as Stonewall Jackson, was a brilliant leader who gained the admiration of all who came to know him. He gained his popularity from his famous Shenandoah Valley campaign in 1862. With integrity beyond reproach, he successfully provided direction, purpose (though skeptical), and motivation to those serving below him during the Valley Campaign. A native born Virginian, Jackson felt that when it came to war, one must fight with all vigor (Wilkins 347), and fight with all vigor is what Jackson did until his death in 1863. He rarely slept or rested, but instead trudged wearily along with his men. On first appearances and perceptions, Stonewall Jackson was commonly underestimated. For instance, Jackson s brilliance was often mistaken for insanity. Richard Taylor called Jackson a damned old crazy fool. • 36. An Analysis of How Fear of the Unknown Affects Characters... An Analysis of How Fear of the Unknown Affects Characters in Hamlet Hamlet s famous To be or not to be soliloquy in Act 3, Scene 1 provides the context for several of the characters actions. It is a soliloquy about fearing the unknown that lies waiting on the other side of the grave (are we punished and/or rewarded according to our actions on earth?) and as Hamlet reasons, Conscience does make cowards of us all (3.1.2). In other words, Hamlet feels that he is unable to act because of the haunting voice of doubt inside him. He doubts that he would find peace in the afterlife should he kill himself. He doubts the events he sees before his very eyes and so cannot exact revenge as the spirit of his father urges him to do. Yet, as Hamlet begins to unravel, other characters expose their doubts as well, revealing how they too are troubled by the unknown. King Claudius reveals his troubled conscience after witnessing the play and wonders what he has done; Hamlet s mother tries to block out the reality of the situation she has entered into when Hamlet attacks her with what he knows (not knowing is better than knowing, she feels). This paper will examine the ways in which the unknown affects the actions of the characters in Hamlet and show that at the heart of each character is an unwillingness to confront the unknown (which is oftentimes themselves). Fear of the unknown arises in the very beginning scene of the play with the appearance of the ghost of Hamlet s father. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The theories of the enlightenment were centered around five basic concepts: reason, science, progress, liberty, and toleration. These lead themselves into thinking of the world in Realist terms. We must look at the universe and understand it from what we can see. A common train of thought was that humanity had grown far too comfortable depending on history and facts as they were retold. One no longer thought for themselves. Progress had been constrained by social and political institutions that did not reflect humanities natural goodness and capacity for material and moral improvement. It was terrible for those forced to live in it, but it kept the economy running by providing lots of cheap labor. Poverty also often meant uneducated. An uneducated public was easy to control and ignorant of the effects that the aristocracy were having. The uneducated are likely to work for low wages, even more so if they are already impoverished. This allows the wealthy to exploit large groups of people without much effort or money. There was an enforced idea that God had placed oneself into such a position and it was not their job to raise themselves up, but to accept and be content. Poverty was seen as a necessary evil, a kind of darkness that contrasted the wealth of the central civilization. • 39. Jean M. TwengeHave Smartphones Destroyed A Generation The invention of the smartphone has drastically changed every part of a teenager s life, from their social life to their mental health. These shifts have hurt young people in every part of the nation and in every family dynamic. From the decline of social interaction with their peers, to an increase of mental illnesses such as depression, the use of cell phones have lead to the correlation between these epidemics. There are some positives to this situation; teens nowadays are safer and don t go out as much, and more teens are having less sex, thus leading to lower teen pregnancy rates. In the article, Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation, Jean M. Twenge effectively argues that smartphones have had a negative impact on teen s social lives by making them more prone to being antisocial; however, she is incorrect when she argues that smartphones have a negative impact on mental health and independency because correlation does not equal causation. The fact that teens of this generation are being more antisocial than in the past is vividly shown throughout society. This claim is mainly stated while Twenge is talking to a 13 year old girl named Athena. Much like any other average American teenage girl, Athena enjoys pastimes such as watching Netflix, going to the mall with friends, browsing the internet, and much more. Although these all sound like fun things to do, they all have one thing in common: teens are not spending quality time with anyone while doing these activities. Now, going to the mall does require you being with someone face to face, but the majority of the time that teens spend with each other is on their phone. They re usually on some social media app, capturing the entire event of being together, or they re talking to other people that are not there instead of speaking to people face to face. As Athena states, I think we like our phones more than we like actual people (pg.2). This rings true to prove the fact that to some teens, there is no need to wonder outside of their comfortable beds to socialize; their friends are just one quick text, Snapchat, or phone call away. Saul carried a warrant from the High Priest so he could go against the people of the early Christian church (Acts 26:10 11). Paul might have been a Roman citizen, but he was cultured in the Greek way of doing things. This can be found in Acts 17:28. Paul knew the mindset of many Greek thoughts and sayings in his time. The conversion of Saul to Paul was a dramatic one. In one of his missions on the road to Damascus, Paul encounters the risen Jesus Christ, which changed his entire life from then on.
