Dhowli, By Mahasweta Devi
In India love is often forbidden due to the caste systems upon the people living within the country. A
caste system is class structure that is determined by birth; if a person in India is born with poor parents
than they are going to be poor as well, the same distinction goes for a person who is born with rich
parents. In Mahasweta Devi s short story Dhowli, the main character Dhowli is referred to as an
untouchable which is of the lowest caste. She becomes involved in a relationship with a very wealthy
Misra boy. Dhowli gets pregnant from the Misra boy and becomes an outcast even more so than she
already is, due to her involvement in a relationship that is forbidden in India. Dhowli is criticized by
many people in her community although in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dusad is a neighborhood containing all members of the same caste as Dhowli. Although Dhowli is
very similar to all the people living in the neighborhood they still pass judgment towards her for the
pregnancy. We don t care whether things go well or bad for her. Let her do what she can, however she
manages it (Devi 248). The criticism Dhowli is experiencing is coming from the people who she used
to consider her friends and people who are very un significant in her life. Dhowli made a mistake just
like all humans do, and she is being characterized by just that mistake, no one sees her as the
hardworking person she is and the good morals she has always possessed. Among the pregnancy and
criticism in Dhowli s life it creates a depression for Dhowli. I think this is similar in my own society.
People in my society and like Dhowli are often remembered for their mistakes and are constantly
judged only on those mistakes like Dhowli has been. Often, people are only looked at because of a
flaw that has been pointed out by the public and they are rarely recognized for the good attributes the
person carries and this can create depression. Teenage mothers had higher levels of depression than
other teenagers or adult mothers (Collingwood, psyschcentral.com). The criticism and judgment
teenagers like Dhowli and teenagers in my own society are experiencing are often the leading reasons
to depression which is a significant connection between Dhowli and my own political

Mike Webster s Role In The NFL
Mike Webster Mike Webster was a center for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and played for 17 years. He set
the record for 220 games played with the Steelers. The center on a team is the person who always gets
hit every play and most of the hits are to the head. Mike Webster helped the Steelers go to 4 out of
their 6 super bowls and he went to 9 pro bowls. He got hit so many times that he got a problem with
his brain called (CTE) which is a brain disease that a lot of athletes get with a history of concussions.
Mike Webster thought that a few head injuries would do nothing, but later on in life that came back on
him. Mike struggled from a lot of things, like depression, money, and health. After his depression and
loss of money he also lost his home. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Mike Webster retired, he started acting weird like living in his car for 18 months. He went to go
see a doctor but with all of his brain injuries his attention span and concentration made him hard to
help. In the four super bowls that the Steelers won, Mike Webster and 22 other players were part of
that. Mike Webster was the player of those 22 that played for the longest in Pittsburgh(15 years). Even
though he was the last person from the 22 to go away from the Steelers he was the first to die at the
age of 50. Mike Webster bought a taser just to get to sleep, he would zap himself until he fell asleep.
When the NFL found out about Mike Webster and how bad the injuries were, that is when the NFL
started to do something about the concussions. The NFL started talking about how they could avoid
the injuries of concussions. In 2015 when people made the movie Concussion, they went deep into
about what Mike Webster did and what happened to

The Vikings And The Viking Age
The Vikings were Norse seafarers, who mainly spoke the Old Norse language. They raided and traded
from their Northern European homelands across wide areas of northern, central and eastern Europe,
during the 9th to 11th century. The Vikings originated from Scandinavia, and the beginning of the
Vikings expansion often originates from the raid of the Lindisfarne Monetary on 8 June 793. The
Vikings were the first Westerners to sail to Iceland, Greenland, and over to the New World. However,
the story of the Vikings is also an important story for the development of the Christian world in the
West. Throughout this essay, I will explain the importance of Viking religion, Viking trade, and how
the Viking age had an impact on the way Western and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason for the Vikings leaving their homelands and venturing off on trade missions, raids,
explorations, and new settlements is largely unknown, due to a lack of evidence (Vikings weren t huge
fans of writing down their day to day lives and history.) However, it can be speculated that they left
for a few reasons. The first of those reasons was to escape forced conversion to Christianity by
Charlemagne. The Vikings had their own unique religion which differed heavily from Christianity.
Add to this the fact that Christians don t have the best history with accepting other beliefs, it is
understandable that the Vikings may have feared Christian conversion and sought to find new lands to
escape. This fear of conversion was a large part of the Saxon wars affecting Germanic peoples. It s
worth noting the irony of the Vikings leaving their homeland in fear of Christian conversion
considering their leader Harald Bluetooth (935 985), who was the King of Norway and Denmark,
eventually converted the Vikings himself to Christianity. The second reason for the Vikings suddenly
migrating may be due to their beliefs in relation to inheritance. Vikings gave their first sons all
acquired land, this caused younger sons to venture off on their own to gain their own property.
Regardless of the reason, the Vikings ventured off in their long ships to raid, pillage,

The Decrease in Voter Turnout Essay
The United States presidential election of 2012 was the 57th presidential election. The election was
held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. The Democratic political leader was the incumbent President
Barack Obama, and his candidate was vice President Joe Biden. Throughout this election the
proportion of eligible voters who cast ballots shows that the rate was lower than in the past two
presidential elections. Voter turnout decreased from 62.3 percent of eligible citizens voting in 2008 to
an estimated 57.5 in 2012. The above calculation was also below the 60.4 percent in 2004 election,
however above the 54.2 percent turnout in the 2000 election. Despite a rise of over eight million
voters within the fitted population, turnout dropped from 131 ... Show more content on

Why do Americans have limited amount of political knowledge? It s because the public lacks interest
in politics. They rely on group/party loyalty, rather than reasoning. Their responses change randomly
from survey to survey. Recent research shows that the public knows some basic things. For example,
they know the location of the capital and the length of president s term, but they lack knowledge about
other basic things. About 50% know there are 2 senators for each state, and only 66% know which
party controls the House. They show high instability of their preferences, so explosion of information
sources has not helped. The authors Greenburg and Page believe that political trivia may not be a good
measure of adequate knowledge. They also mentioned that the reason for the instability of preference
is because people change their minds and reflect on multidimensional ideology. It s understandable
that American citizens have lost trust in the government as well as interest, but the group of people
that show the least amount of interest in politics and voting are the young generation.
There are a large number of reasons for poor electorate among young people. A clear decline in ballot
among parents has shown that parents are not

The Effects Of Drug Addiction
Drug addiction is a chronic brain disorder that affects millions of people around the world. It is
characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use despite the harmful consequences that may occur.
Surprisingly, drugs affect people in different ways. One person may habitually take a drug and never
become addicted, while another person can have only a single experience with a drug and become
iammediately addicted. To be clear, addicts are habitual drug users who continue to use a drug despite
its unfavorable effects on their health and social life. It is also worthy of noting, that addiction does
not solely occur with drugs, ambling, food, shopping and video games also can become an addiction.
There are three stages in drug addiction that should be known, initial drug taking, habitual drug taking,
and lastly, drug craving and addiction relapse.
The first stage in drug addiction is the initial drug taking. In other words, how does a person begin
taking the drug in the first place. It should first be noted, that not everyone who has access to a drug
will take it and not every who takes the drug will continue to do so after that first use. To begin with
there are various environmental factors that play a role in whether or not a drug is taken by a person.
The first factor is drug availability and price. This may include how easily a drug can be accessed and
how expensive is it to buy. The second factor is social pressures. This depends on what type of people
a person is

Improving the ISO Rating of the Council Bluffs (IA) Fire Department
Introduction
In 2012, Insurance Services Office (ISO) conducted a review of the fire suppression capabilities of the
Council Bluffs (IA) Fire Department (CBFD). The resulting Public Protection Classification (PPC)
was a Class 2. This classification puts the CBFD into the top 1% of the approximately 49,000 fire
departments ISO reviews. In an effort to maintain the highest level of service to the public, the current
fire administration has established an organizational goal of achieving a Class 1 designation. The
problem is that the CBFD has not developed a comprehensive plan to improve the department ISO
rating. In order to develop a plan, research is needed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Background and Significance The Council Bluffs (IA) Fire Department was formed on January 5,
1883 by resolution of the city council to establish a full time, paid department. Prior to 1883, the
citizens of Council Bluffs had been protected from fire by several different volunteer fire companies.
The first such company, known as Hook Ladder 1, was formed after a conflagration destroyed most of
the town on November 14, 1854 (Petersen, 1992). Between 1854 and 1883, the department grew in
size, purchasing steam pumpers in 1868 and 1880. The city grew as well, expanding from a population
of 2,011 in 1860 to 18,063 in 1880. In 1918, the firemen of the CBFD organized and became a charter
member of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), Local 15. This is an affiliation that
the labor force of the CBFD still maintains today. On April 5, 1920, the CBFD began a two platoon
system with day and night shifts. Ten new firemen were hired bringing the total staffing to 36 men
working out of five stations. As the city continued to grow the fire department updated and broadened
the footprint of its fire stations. In 1942, a new Fire Station 2 was built

Foster Parents is a term that refers to adults who are licensed by a state or county to provide a

The Causes And Effects Of The United States
Imagine strolling to the local grocery store, taking a morning run, or merely gathering the daily mail
wearing a mask as a shield against gassy smog. Think about the terror that strikes some people when
they turn on their faucets only to see a string of tainted, brown solution. Pollution affects thousands of
human individuals, animals, forests, cities, and ecosystems. With shocking effects and staggering
statistics, our water sources, the air we breathe, and the land upon which we live suffer from this
plague. Unfortunately, the causes and effects of this universal dilemma deteriorate the health and well
being of all life forms on earth.
Although land, light, and noise pollution leave their mark on this planet, air and water pollution inflict
even more damage. Across the globe, from Beijing to the U.S. to Africa, we see, and contribute to the
causes of pollution daily. Because of harmful chemicals that waft up to the atmosphere, the ozone
faces depletion. Automobiles and other forms of transportation emit dangerous toxins, along with
putrid, black smoke that spews from the exhaust pipes of large vehicles. Smoke from factories
contributes generously to contamination, as well. Even natural disasters play a momentous role in air
pollution as exhibited by sulfur dioxide, a volcanic gas that kills those who come in contact with it and
leaves soil infertile for years (Pollution). Another substance absolutely necessary to life on earth water

William Carlos Williams Doctor Stories Essay
William Carlos Williams passion and dedication of medicine can be seen through his literary
contributions of short stories and poems. The Doctor Stories use interior monologue in a stream of
consciousness as a tool to reflect each narrator s experience and gives insight into the character and his
appraisal of each of the situations encountered. It is through this stream of consciousness that we come
to realize the observational nature of this doctor s actions and thoughts.
In the story A Night in June, Williams details a feeling of restlessness when a child needs to be

(pg. 44) The author shows similarities between the narrator and his more skeptical colleague in an
attempt to highlight the narrator s thoughts. His thoughts show that his caustic colleague is very
critical in describing the immigrant mother as a bugger and the daughter as a pimply faced bitch . (pg.
55) The story then ends with a sense of hope for the young girl as she returns to school. From the
beginning of The Use of Force, the doctor goes in to great detail about the patience it takes as he tries
to coax the young girl to open her mouth. When he realizes the futility of his approach, he gives the
child an ultimatum of Will you open it now by yourself or shall we have to open it for you? which is
shown as he steels himself for the upcoming battle. (pg. 58) It is obvious that this doctor is committed
to helping the uncooperative child, and his thoughts portray his determination that is untainted by a
fear of hurting the girl in order to help her. This is in contrast to the obvious observance of the child s
parents that fear hurting her which impedes the ability to heal her. It is probably a typical portrayal of
parents that are so emotional and soft hearted that the doctor sees regularly, but contrasts the assertive
actions of the doctor which leads the reader to realize that doing what is best for someone is not

Visionary and Ethical Leadership of General Curtis LeMay
It s late afternoon on March 9th, 1945. The sun was shining brightly through a scattered deck of
clouds dotting the sky and there was a refreshing northeasterly breeze coming off the surrounding
waters. General Curtis LeMay is standing in the thick tropical air of Northwest Field on the small
Pacific island of Guam. He watches as over three hundred B 29 Superfortress bombers launch
northward towards Tokyo where they will use new and unproven tactics for delivering the most
devastating firebombing campaign in history. Through General LeMay s vision and innovation he
changed established doctrine of how bombers should operate in the European and Pacific theaters and
enabled untold successes but at what cost to American values and law?
My purpose is to show that General LeMay was a tremendous visionary leader although he made
unethical choices and that I have been able to see times in my life where principles of his actions
resonated with me. LeMay was a visionary leader due to his ability to adapt and win current wars
while keeping the foresight to look ahead at what was needed to shape the Air Force to deter or win
future wars. He was an unethical leader because while

Oppressors In America Research Paper
The guilt of nurturing lust for power made Hagar run away from Sara. In this context, I observe, that
the powerless concubine became all powerful she ran away twice from Sara. Her reasons for doing so
might be many, most notable being that Hagar was the biological mother of Ishmael, and further the
tables turned when Sara asked Abraham to send Hagar away there is a shift in the power roles. Hagar s
acts of running away from Sara twice helps me perceive Hagar taking over the role of an oppressor
from her former role of one being oppressed. To explicate this, as a maid, Hagar was oppressed into
forcible sexual relationship with Abram, the same oppressed concubine can be perceived as the
oppressor who torments Sara because she is the birthing mother of Abraham s son and hence looks
down upon Sara. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Classical And Operant Conditioning And The Field Of...
How have studies of classical and operant conditioning contributed to the field of psychology?
In this essay I will outline the main principles of both operant and classical conditioning methods and
discuss what both theories have contributed to the field of psychology and what they have taught us
about the way in which some human behaviour occurs.
Classical conditioning, also known as Pavlovian conditioning (Davis, S. F., Buskist, W. (2008). 21st
century psychology: a reference handbook Page 312 (Vol. 1). Sage.) states our behaviours are
instigated by associating certain stimuli with other behaviours which involves four main learning
principles known as acquisition, extinction, spontaneous recovery and stimulus generalisation and
discrimination. (Martin, G.N., Carlson, N.R., and Buskist, W. (2013). Psychology. (5th ed.). Page 228
Harlow, Essex: Pearson Education. Chapter 7). Acquisition refers to the learning phase in classical
conditioning when the conditioned stimulus increases in strength, extinction refers to when the
conditioned stimulus is no longer linked with the unconditioned stimulus. Spontaneous recover refers
to the resurfacing of the conditioned response after a period in which the response has been less
apparent. Finally, stimulus generalisation and discrimination refers to when a conditioned response
applies to similar stimuli, for example, being conditioned to fear a stuffed white rabbit the same
behaviour will apply to an object of the same variety

Character Analysis Of Stanley YelnatsHoles By Louis Sachar
Stanley Yelnats, the main character in the novel Holes by Louis Sachar was published in 1998.This
was among a number of children s books Sachar had written. Stanley changed in many ways while he
was away at Camp Green Lake. Stanley was sent to Camp Green Lake after being wrongly accused of
stealing a pair of sneakers. He had a big journey ahead of him that he didn t know was coming. Camp
Green Lake was 8 hours away by bus from where his family lived. It was isolated and hot there. It was
also very dry. Stanley changed during his time at Camp Green Lake, physically, emotionally and
mentally. Stanley was a stable, kind and caring teenager, but he unfortunately was bullied by lots of
people for his size. Camp Green Lake gave Stanley confidence and strength to make decisions for
himself and to not accept what everyone was saying as truth.
The most noticeable changes to Stanley were the physical changes. Before Stanley arrived at Camp
Green Lake, Stanley was overweight and was bullied constantly for it. His teacher, Mrs Bell, was once
talking about ratios and had compared his weight to another boy s weight who was much smaller. She
had written on the board the ratio 3:1, stating that Stanley had weighed three times more than the other
boy (Louis Sachar pg 7). The teacher hadn t realised how much she had hurt both of the boys feelings.
At Camp Green Lake Stanley had to dig holes every day and this made him physically strong as he
lost a couple of pounds in sweat the first day.

Chinese Immigrants in America Essay
After the first wave of Chinese immigrants arrived in the United States in the early 1840s during the
California Gold Rush, many Chinese people continued to travel across the Pacific, escaping poor
conditions in China with hopes and ambitions for a better life in America. Many more Chinese
immigrants began arriving into the 1860s on the Pacific coast for work in other areas such as the
railroad industry. The immigrants noticed an increasing demand for their labor because of their
readiness to work for low wages. Many of those who arrived did not plan to stay long, and therefore
there was no push for their naturalization. The immigrants left a country with thousands of years of a
decaying feudal system, corruption, a growing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The growth of Chinese jobs in the California labor market did not stop there. Because of the hard
times, employers found it especially attractive that the Chinese workers would work for long hours
with low pay. Huge losses hit California in 1876 with a drought; this led to unemployment across the
coast including for the Chinese. Many white investors, however, used the Chinese as scapegoats for
this statewide depression, fueling the anti Chinese fire and leading to more hostility towards Chinese
workers. The firsthand account of Lee Chew, a Chinese immigrant to America in the early 1880s,
shows the disparities between the white man s perception of Chinese laborers and reality as well as the
hostility that arose as a result. When Lee first arrived in America, he started working as a housekeeper
for a family in California, being paid $3.50 a week and being able to keep 50 cents afterwards. For
Lee and other Chinese immigrants, they believed the hostility arose from jealousy in the labor market,
because he [Chinese worker] is a more faithful worker than one of their people, [and they] have raised
such a great outcry about Chinese cheap labor that they have shut him [Chinese worker] out of
working on farms or in factories or building railroads or making streets or digging sewers. Lee s
testimony shows the common ripple effects of the working restrictions white men imposed on the
Chinese immigrants looking for jobs. This resulted in Chinese

Eugenics, Eugenics And Selective Breeding
Eugenics is defined as the science of improving a human population by controlled breeding to increase
the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics (Merriam Webster). The extensive and shadowed
history of authoritative and liberal eugenics practices dates back to 1883 when eugenecist Francis
Galton began publicly advocating for the castration of the insane. Eugenics practices occurred around
the world for more than a century and are still part of scientific progress and discussion today. From
the T4 programs of Nazi Germany to the Human Genome Project and the mapping of the entire fetal
genetic makeup, eugenics and selective breeding have played a major part in the history and social
makeup of the world.
Sterilization became the most common eugenics practice in American between the 1920 s and 1970 s.
In 1907, Indiana passed the first sterilization law which enabled doctors to legally sterilize patients
deemed unfit to reproduce without their permission. The law came about during an era when
vaccinations, clean eating and workplace safety were all being supported. These public views helped
the practice gain support in the name of generational health and wellbeing. In the Model Law of
Sterilization published in 1914 by Harry Laughlin, any persons deemed feeble minded, insane,
criminalistic, epileptic, diseased, blind, deaf, deformed, promiscuous or dependent by the state were
able to be sterilized by a physician without consent. Although sterilization wasn t widely

The twenty five years old female star of Twilight movies likes men and women as well. Last summer,

It was high noon on a hot day. Jesus, tired from traveling, chose to rest at Jacob s well near the town of
Sychar, while waiting for His disciples to go into town for food. An unnamed Samaritan woman came
to draw water at a well. She hated facing others because the Jews despised her people, and she was an
outcast looked down upon even by her own people. This woman was ostracized and marked as

Why Is It Hard To Engage In A Social Movement
Q 1: Those more likely to engage in a social movement are, the relatively well off, well educated, and
active (Meyer 62). Furthermore, movements for collective action, tend to be full of people from the
middle class and above (63). In other words, the type of people who are the easiest to mobilize for
collective action in a social movement are college educated individuals who are not living paycheck to
paycheck. Individuals who are less likely to participate are those without biographical availability , a
term coined by Doug McAdam to mean the absence of responsibilities in terms of financial or
emotional support. A lack of availability will make these individuals the hardest to mobilize when
compared to your average college student.
Q 2: Utilizing various incentives is useful when trying to increase mobilization for collective action.
Meyer mentions three kinds of incentives that can be employed: purposive, material, and solidary.

Film Industry In Louisiana
The film industry in Louisiana has seen tremendous growth in the last decade due to a generous film
tax credit program. The big motion picture companies seem to be bringing more pictures to be filmed
in Hollywood South claiming the films create jobs and spur economic growth. Louisiana residents are
wowed by the chance to potentially see movies filmed in their neighborhoods, the chance to meet stars
and perhaps be an extra in a scene. Though many in the state are claiming that the film tax credit
program is too costly to maintain.
Proponents of the program cite the increased number of movies filmed in Louisiana as a key indicator
of the program s success. Several other states have similar programs, though no film tax credit
program is as beneficial to film companies as Louisiana s program. The film industry has increased so
significantly in Louisiana that in 2013 more major motion pictures were filmed in Louisiana than in
any other state. Films made in Louisiana do create jobs.
Economists argue that the long term tax film credits are generating debt and not revenue. They claim
the jobs that are created in are temporary, low wage positions and the state is better off investing their
money in a less risky industry. Louisiana economists state that the success of the program should be

American Revolution And Religion
The Revolutionary period had much more substance to it than meets the eye. Although it is often
looked at as just Americans creating the United States of America, that is not the only perspective that
should be taken away from the American Revolution. It should be recognized more as Englishmen, as
Anglo Protestants, getting away from England. There are numerous diverse perspectives and events
that shaped the American Revolution. Some of the most imperative instances are Religion, Anglo
Americans, the Intolerable Acts and taxes, and the role of the Tories.
One of the most overlooked perspective of the popular view has to do with religion. The eighteenth
century colonists had a plethora of options to choose from when it came to religion. Many ... Show

These people were called Tories. Tories, also known as loyalists, were colonists that stayed faithful to
Britain during the Revolutionary War. They consisted of royal officials, wealthy merchants,
conservative urban lawyers, people who disliked pro revolution citizens, southern slaves who looked
to Britain in hope of freedom, and a multitude of Indian tribes. Contrary to popular view, one could
argue that the American Revolution was not only a fight between the Patriots and the British, but it
was really a civil war between the Rebels and the Tories. The fight between the Rebels and the Tories
can be described as brutal because of the guerilla warfare, brigade war, tarring and feathering, and
killings that were exhibited between the two sides. According to Tories: Fighting For the King in
America s First Civil War, General Nathanael Greene stated, The division among the people is much
greater than I imagined and the Whigs and Tories persecute each other, with little less than savage
fury. There is nothing but murders and devastation in every quarter. (Thomas Allen p. 1). The Tories
main concern was stability, which the British could provide to them unlike the rebels. Many times, this
would divide families because they would disagree on whether they wanted to be a Tory or a Rebel.
Additionally, if they decided to ultimately be a Tory, they would join the British army to fight against
the Patriots or flee to Canada or back to England. Although their role in the American Revolution was
to support the British, even with the Tories help, the British were still

with the three witches and they had told him that he will become the next king. Although the witches
did say this it did not mean that it was certain, it was just a possibility. But when Macbeth realized the

Social Media And Identity Analysis
Judaism takes the universal community concept all the way to help foster an identity and purpose by
emphasizing the need to stick with the community throughout life and public identify yourself with
them even if your belief wanes. The aspect of public identification is vital here because it reinforces an
incredibly deep social bond built out of both a shared, common belief but also through superficial
ethnicity in such a way that they rarely feel alone in situations because of the ease of being able to
identify someone through their clothing and name. This sense of loneliness and not knowing anyone is
another pillar aspect of the strength of social media s strength because it allows these at risk people

Social media may appear to be irrelevant here at first, however social media is actually again at the
core of this issue because social media can often act as a safe haven for those who are socially
ostracized because it connects those who are in similar situations together. This is especially
problematic in terms of both the integrity of identity and purpose as well the person s own future even
if they never discovery their purpose because this new community would both further confused their
sense of identity and purpose but also integrate and validate ideas and values of others which
potentially resulted in their social exile. Christianity s focus on salvation and its evangelism is
absolutely vital to pulling people out and preventing them from ever being trapped in this echo
chamber because the two combined offer those who have been ostracized a way back even though the
rest of society has written them off as failures. This, if successful, brings those who are most
vulnerable or have already fallen victim to social media at varying levels towards individual
development of identity and purpose without the dangers of social media. This development of
identity and purpose is supported by the sense of community brought from the fact that many of those
around you had also suffered but had found salvation through the same means. However, this may
seem to be more of the original problem that contributed to the confusion of identify and purpose
however the Christian community is bound together by a shared forgiveness of their past misdeeds so
as to move on and continue to develop identity and purpose whereas these types of social media
communities are only bound together by a collective,

Differences Between Power And Authority
Question 1: Distinguish between power and authority. Do you believe the foundation of criminal
justice organizations is power or authority? Why? Give examples in everyday criminal justice life that
reflect the differences among these concepts.
Answer: According to Stojkovic, Kalinich, and Klofas (2015), power can be defined as A construct
that underscores that importance of how compliance among subordinates is achieved (p. 288). Power
can be at both a person and organizational level and there are five forms, including coercive power,
reward power, legitimate power, referent power, and expert power (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015).
In contrast, authority is demoting the compliance with particular directives essential for achieving a
common or shared goal (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015, p. 290). The three forms of author include,
traditional authority, charismatic authority, and legal authority (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015).
Power can become authority over time and authority is useful for when individuals must be supervised
within an organization (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). I believe the foundation of criminal justice
organizations is authority because everyone is trying to attain the same goal and be successful
(Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). If power is distributed among too many employees, then that
could lead to role conflict (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). It is important to have supervisors with
authority over

The administrators have vacated the property and ceased to take responsibility or pay rent to the

Abstract:
In order to cope up with the growing problem of traffic congestion several means and methods have
been implemented. For reducing this problem,an efficient method for traffic monitoring can be
implemented by providing the availability of the parking spaces in advance. Since there exist no such
system we intend to develop one using sensors and RFIDs.In proposed system, we consider car park
equipped with sensors(IR) which checks for the availability of parking slots and updates the
information periodically. This updated information is provided to the user via an android application.
Using this application user gets directed towards the parking slot by using the shortest path

Bowlby believed that for a strong attachment to be formed there must be proximity maintenance (the
desire to be near the people we are attached to), a safe haven(returning to the attachment figure for
comfort and safety in the face of a fear or threat), a secure base(the attachment figure acts as a base of
security from which the child can explore the surrounding environment),and separation distress
(anxiety that occurs in the absence of the attachment figure). The main points of his attachment theory
were that a child has an innate need to attach to one main attachment figure(monotropy). Another
main point in his theory was that he believed a child should receive the continuous care of the single
most important attachment figure for the first two years of life. Bowlby used the term maternal
deprivation to refer to the failure to develop an attachment, and to refer to the separation or loss of a
mother. To support his hypothesis that the relationship between the infant and mother in the first five
years was crucial to socialization, and the disruption of this relationship can lead to emotional
difficulties, antisocial behavior, and delinquency, he studied forty four juvenile delinquents in a child
guidance clinic. The study was called the forty four thieves study, and the goal was

Graphic Designers
These days there are a lot of Graphic Designers offering services online. Perhaps too many. This
article covers some useful need to knows about Graphic Designers and what to look for when ordering
a logo design, brochure design or any of the countless reasons to order a graphic design service for
your company or organization s imaging needs.
Graphic design services these days (like any services these days) have been on a downward slide for
some time now (in this Designer s opinion). Take logos for example. I can t tell you how many logos I
see out there featuring a swoosh or swipe looking graphic that shoots out as though orbiting the text
that makes up the logo. I would like to tell you that the Designers who created the thousands of
swoosh logos out there, utilized this staple of design because it was the best solution for their client. I
can just hear them stating how this simple element is really a complex and developed less is more
approach to their client s design and worth every drop of the hundreds of dollars they are charging for
it. I would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They should have an About Page, a resume or some form of credentials available on their website. If
they don t then its time to leave that website. I do not recommend testimonials because these days
there is no way to verify where these wonderful comments came from. Stick to the facts and
information that can be verified if need be. If you are paying hundreds of dollars or more for design
services then you had better see some years of experience on that Designer s resume. Where did they
get their education and did they actually even major in Graphic Design? What does their job history
look like. Have they really been a Graphic Designer at every job in their resume? It is worth it to do a
little research because chances are you are going to need more design work done in the future and
wouldn t it be great to have a Designer you can depend

Male Infertility Treatment
Infertility affects millions of married couples around the world, and at least 40 percent of infertility is
attributable to male factor infertility. The prognosis for male infertility treatment is extremely poor,
and only 15 percent of infertile men can be treated. Occupational exposure represents the highest level
of exposure to chemicals that could potentially produce adverse effects on the reproductive system via
inhalation, skin absorption, or ingestion. Thousands of chemicals exist in the workplace; there is
limited or no toxicological information available for many industrial chemicals. Furthermore, even for
compounds for which there is toxicological testing data, the data often do not include assessment on

In order to develop and establish in vitro human spermatogenesis models, we need to build up an
unlimited source of human spermatogonia stem cells (SSCs). Human SSCs are a unique population of
cells in postnatal mammals that undergo self renewal. SSCs are rare in the testis, constituting around 1
in 3 000 4 000 testicular cells. It is difficult to obtain enough SSCs to serve for the toxicity testing
from biopsy of human testis. The rapid progress in stem cell research has opened a new era for
exploring human spermatogenesis. Mouse ESCs, nonhuman primate (NHP) ESCs, and hESCs have
been differentiated into primordial germ cells (PGCs) and fetal precursors of the spermatogenic
lineage [50 61]. hiPSCs can enter meiosis and in some cases produce haploid products in vitro [55, 56,
60, 62, 63]. hESCs and hiPSCs are reported to differentiate directly into advanced male spermatogenic
lineages in vitro [56, 62, 64 66]. However, the efficiency of generation of the human SSCs is still quite
low and different among the reports. The discovery of the method to generate human SCCs from
hiPSCs in a high efficiency will open up the possibility to provide an unlimited source of human
SSCs, which can be used to construct in vitro model for reproductive toxicity testing. Therefore, in
this proposal, we will use High Content Analysis (HCA) to optimize the culture condition to improve
the efficacy of differentiating hESCs to human SSCs, and apply these cells to develop an integrated
pathway based high throughput (HT)/high content analysis (HCA) for reproductive toxicity

Why The University Of Iowa Essay
Over the past few weeks, I ve had the chance to talk with individual faculty, students, staff, and others
about what drew me to the University of Iowa, my approach to the role of president, and the need to
work together. I d like to take this opportunity to start a broader conversation.
Why the University of Iowa?
I ve been asked this question by both supporters and detractors in recent weeks. If you belong to the
University of Iowa community, you ve probably asked yourself, or been asked, this same question.
Let me offer my answer. You may find that I came to the University of Iowa for much the same reason
you did.
I am a graduate of a public research institution, and I believe these institutions are the foundation of
our future. Through their mission of teaching, research, and service, they promise to make our
individual and collective lives better.
The University of Iowa addresses these missions with a balanced commitment to the sciences, arts,
and humanities; a culture that sincerely wants every student to succeed; and a deep sense of obligation
to the people of its state. It s a unique place with an essential purpose.
This is why I was interested.
We need to remember why so many of us have chosen Iowa as a place to study, work, and live. We are
creative and collaborative, inspired by this place and its history. We re pragmatic but not afraid to
think big. We value hard work, we speak forthrightly, and we honor our promises. That s why we are
Iowa.
Our goals are

Advantages And Disadvantages Of CO2 Laser
Carbon dioxide laser ablation:
The carbon dioxide (CO2) laser has been in use for decades as a tool in general and dermatological
surgery. The CO2 laser creates an infrared light at a 10600 nm wavelength that produces a thermal
effect on targeted tissue. The energy from the laser rapidly heats intracellular and extracellular water
to 100 ºC, causing vaporization, thus disrupting cell membranes and causing cell death.
The laser is used to vaporize a layer of epithelium, and this skin is cleared from the field with a
moistened cotton tip applicator or gauze. Johnson et al. described the depth of treatment for CO2 laser
therapy, as several histologic layers can be differentiated with consecutive laser passes, such that the
full depth of dysplastic involvement can be removed. Thus, use of the laser is theoretically curative for
AC and does not cause deep dermal damage with ensuing scar formation.
Several studies on the optimal technique to treat AC lesions by CO2 laser recommend a superpulsed
mode rather than continuous wave form, as pulsed laser therapy decreases recovery time and scarring
potential.
Superpulsed CO2 laser concentrates treatment into rapid powerful pulses that allow cooling ... Show

This allows direct visualization of the lip after each consecutive pass of the laser. Furthermore, CO2
laser therapy tends to have fewer adverse effects (i.e., less frequent post treatment scarring and
paresthesias) than surgical vermilionectomy. Lip contour is not compromised after CO2 laser therapy,
and the procedure is less invasive and less operator dependent than surgical vermilionectomy. There
has also been discussion for the combination of CO2 laser vermilionectomy (as opposed to surgical
vermilionectomy) with surgical wedge resection for invasive SCC of the

Better Off Friends Character Analysis
Imagine moving from Los Angeles, California to a small town in Wisconsin and not knowing anyone
at the new school. Anyone in this situation would want to make friends that would accept them in the
new town. This is the position Levi, one of the main characters in Elizabeth Eulberg s Better off
Friends, is in when he starts middle school. Macallan, the other main character, is the person that
befriends Levi, and they become very close very fast. Being a new kid from down south, many people
stereotype Levi because of how he looks and the way he acts, which was normal in Los Angeles where
he used to live, but odd to the people in Wisconsin. For this reason the boys at school did not really
want to hang out with Levi, and that is why he and Macallan become such good friends in a short
amount of time. The two of them could find a lot that they had in common, even though they were
from completely different places. Macallan and Levi were together a lot, so when they hung out just
the two of them, people would think they were dating when they were not. This is the second
stereotype addressed in the book; a boy and a girl that spend lots of time together do not have to be a
boyfriend and a girlfriend. Throughout middle school and high school, they were constantly asked if
they were dating, when they were not. Therefore, in Better off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg, Eulberg
addresses stereotypes about where people come from and people of the opposite gender being just
friends. First

The Significance of Radical Thought and Attitudes in the Civil War Period
The Civil War caused turmoil and upheaval that affected every strand of life in England. It challenged
and upturned the deeply ingrained feudal system with a Monarch as the head of all moral, spiritual and
governmental life, and moved thought and order towards new democratic ideas and systems of rule.
This period saw a new experimentation in ideas and attitudes among the population, which was not
welcomed by many. As Christopher Hill writes What was new in the 17 centaury was the idea that the
world might be permanently turned upside down . In the wake of Charles s regicide there was a
popular mid seventeenth centaury ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As. Michel Lynch states: It was the great issue that defined settlement , or peace in this case. One
group challenging this were the True Levellers mockingly known as Diggers: With beliefs in equality,
community and true religion for all they argued that land was a common treasury and lived in
communes detached from society. The most famous commune was on St George s Hill, where
common land was taken over by a group numbering around 50 led by Winstanly. Their ideas derived
and supported from the Bible were radical in that they directly threatened the gentry and the
landowners. As Michel Lynch states they . were regarded as an intolerable affront to established rights
of property referring to a lifestyle of sexual promiscuity, heavy drinking and frequent blaspheming ,
usurping land laws and ownership. Reactions and accusations followed that they were Drunk on the
Bible , thus dramatising many aspects of Digger practice. Just how seriously they challenged
established order was evident in violent clashes that culminated in their removal under Cromwell s
orders Lynch further poses an interesting idea that In an exact sense they were communists . He is
suggesting that here may lie the original seeds that led to later Communism. That the first statue of
Winstanly was erected in Russia after Lenin s consolidation of power shows the extent of their
influence in later history and

description of the types of duties that PRs actually maintain. The Parachute Rigger (PR) rating, which
came to fruition in 1942 to satisfy World War II parachute survival regulations, initially included the
general service rating with career ascendancy from striker level status through Chief Parachute Rigger
(PRC) status. Presently, service members are not permitted to strike for PR due to safety concerns.

A caste system is class structure that is determined by birth; if a person in India is born with poor parents than they are going to be poor as well, the same distinction goes for a person who is born with rich parents. In Mahasweta Devi s short story Dhowli, the main character Dhowli is referred to as an untouchable which is of the lowest caste. She becomes involved in a relationship with a very wealthy Misra boy. Dhowli gets pregnant from the Misra boy and becomes an outcast even more so than she already is, due to her involvement in a relationship that is forbidden in India. Although Dhowli is very similar to all the people living in the neighborhood they still pass judgment towards her for the pregnancy. We don t care whether things go well or bad for her. Let her do what she can, however she manages it (Devi 248). The criticism Dhowli is experiencing is coming from the people who she used to consider her friends and people who are very un significant in her life. Dhowli made a mistake just like all humans do, and she is being characterized by just that mistake, no one sees her as the hardworking person she is and the good morals she has always possessed. Among the pregnancy and criticism in Dhowli s life it creates a depression for Dhowli. I think this is similar in my own society. People in my society and like Dhowli are often remembered for their mistakes and are constantly judged only on those mistakes like Dhowli has been. Often, people are only looked at because of a flaw that has been pointed out by the public and they are rarely recognized for the good attributes the person carries and this can create depression. Teenage mothers had higher levels of depression than other teenagers or adult mothers (Collingwood, psyschcentral.com). The criticism and judgment teenagers like Dhowli and teenagers in my own society are experiencing are often the leading reasons to depression which is a significant connection between Dhowli and my own political ... The reason for the Vikings leaving their homelands and venturing off on trade missions, raids, explorations, and new settlements is largely unknown, due to a lack of evidence (Vikings weren t huge fans of writing down their day to day lives and history.) However, it can be speculated that they left for a few reasons. The first of those reasons was to escape forced conversion to Christianity by Charlemagne. The Vikings had their own unique religion which differed heavily from Christianity. Add to this the fact that Christians don t have the best history with accepting other beliefs, it is understandable that the Vikings may have feared Christian conversion and sought to find new lands to escape. This fear of conversion was a large part of the Saxon wars affecting Germanic peoples. It s worth noting the irony of the Vikings leaving their homeland in fear of Christian conversion considering their leader Harald Bluetooth (935 985), who was the King of Norway and Denmark, eventually converted the Vikings himself to Christianity. The second reason for the Vikings suddenly migrating may be due to their beliefs in relation to inheritance. Vikings gave their first sons all acquired land, this caused younger sons to venture off on their own to gain their own property. Regardless of the reason, the Vikings ventured off in their long ships to raid, pillage, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why do Americans have limited amount of political knowledge? It s because the public lacks interest in politics. They rely on group/party loyalty, rather than reasoning. Their responses change randomly from survey to survey. Recent research shows that the public knows some basic things. For example, they know the location of the capital and the length of president s term, but they lack knowledge about other basic things. About 50% know there are 2 senators for each state, and only 66% know which party controls the House. They show high instability of their preferences, so explosion of information sources has not helped. The authors Greenburg and Page believe that political trivia may not be a good measure of adequate knowledge. They also mentioned that the reason for the instability of preference is because people change their minds and reflect on multidimensional ideology. It s understandable that American citizens have lost trust in the government as well as interest, but the group of people that show the least amount of interest in politics and voting are the young generation. It is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use despite the harmful consequences that may occur. Surprisingly, drugs affect people in different ways. One person may habitually take a drug and never become addicted, while another person can have only a single experience with a drug and become iammediately addicted. To be clear, addicts are habitual drug users who continue to use a drug despite its unfavorable effects on their health and social life. It is also worthy of noting, that addiction does not solely occur with drugs, ambling, food, shopping and video games also can become an addiction. There are three stages in drug addiction that should be known, initial drug taking, habitual drug taking, and lastly, drug craving and addiction relapse. The first stage in drug addiction is the initial drug taking. In other words, how does a person begin taking the drug in the first place. It should first be noted, that not everyone who has access to a drug will take it and not every who takes the drug will continue to do so after that first use. To begin with there are various environmental factors that play a role in whether or not a drug is taken by a person. The first factor is drug availability and price. This may include how easily a drug can be accessed and how expensive is it to buy. The second factor is social pressures. This depends on what type of people a person is ... Prior to 1883, the citizens of Council Bluffs had been protected from fire by several different volunteer fire companies. The first such company, known as Hook Ladder 1, was formed after a conflagration destroyed most of the town on November 14, 1854 (Petersen, 1992). Between 1854 and 1883, the department grew in size, purchasing steam pumpers in 1868 and 1880. The city grew as well, expanding from a population of 2,011 in 1860 to 18,063 in 1880. In 1918, the firemen of the CBFD organized and became a charter member of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), Local 15. This is an affiliation that the labor force of the CBFD still maintains today. On April 5, 1920, the CBFD began a two platoon system with day and night shifts. The Doctor Stories use interior monologue in a stream of consciousness as a tool to reflect each narrator s experience and gives insight into the character and his appraisal of each of the situations encountered. It is through this stream of consciousness that we come to realize the observational nature of this doctor s actions and thoughts. (pg. 55) The story then ends with a sense of hope for the young girl as she returns to school. From the beginning of The Use of Force, the doctor goes in to great detail about the patience it takes as he tries to coax the young girl to open her mouth. When he realizes the futility of his approach, he gives the child an ultimatum of Will you open it now by yourself or shall we have to open it for you? which is shown as he steels himself for the upcoming battle. (pg. 58) It is obvious that this doctor is committed to helping the uncooperative child, and his thoughts portray his determination that is untainted by a fear of hurting the girl in order to help her. This is in contrast to the obvious observance of the child s parents that fear hurting her which impedes the ability to heal her. It is probably a typical portrayal of parents that are so emotional and soft hearted that the doctor sees regularly, but contrasts the assertive actions of the doctor which leads the reader to realize that doing what is best for someone is not synonymous to what ... Hagar s acts of running away from Sara twice helps me perceive Hagar taking over the role of an oppressor from her former role of one being oppressed. In this essay I will outline the main principles of both operant and classical conditioning methods and discuss what both theories have contributed to the field of psychology and what they have taught us about the way in which some human behaviour occurs. Classical conditioning, also known as Pavlovian conditioning (Davis, S. F., Buskist, W. (2008). 21st century psychology: a reference handbook Page 312 (Vol. 1). Sage.) states our behaviours are instigated by associating certain stimuli with other behaviours which involves four main learning principles known as acquisition, extinction, spontaneous recovery and stimulus generalisation and discrimination. (Martin, G.N., Carlson, N.R., and Buskist, W. (2013). Psychology. (5th ed.). Page 228 Harlow, Essex: Pearson Education. Chapter 7). Acquisition refers to the learning phase in classical conditioning when the conditioned stimulus increases in strength, extinction refers to when the conditioned stimulus is no longer linked with the unconditioned stimulus. Spontaneous recover refers to the resurfacing of the conditioned response after a period in which the response has been less apparent. Finally, stimulus generalisation and discrimination refers to when a conditioned response applies to similar stimuli, for example, being conditioned to fear a stuffed white rabbit the same behaviour will apply to an object of the same variety ... Stanley changed in many ways while he was away at Camp Green Lake. Stanley was sent to Camp Green Lake after being wrongly accused of stealing a pair of sneakers. He had a big journey ahead of him that he didn t know was coming. Camp Green Lake was 8 hours away by bus from where his family lived. It was isolated and hot there. It was also very dry. Stanley changed during his time at Camp Green Lake, physically, emotionally and mentally. Stanley was a stable, kind and caring teenager, but he unfortunately was bullied by lots of people for his size. Camp Green Lake gave Stanley confidence and strength to make decisions for himself and to not accept what everyone was saying as truth. The most noticeable changes to Stanley were the physical changes. Before Stanley arrived at Camp Green Lake, Stanley was overweight and was bullied constantly for it. His teacher, Mrs Bell, was once talking about ratios and had compared his weight to another boy s weight who was much smaller. She had written on the board the ratio 3:1, stating that Stanley had weighed three times more than the other boy (Louis Sachar pg 7). Many white investors, however, used the Chinese as scapegoats for this statewide depression, fueling the anti Chinese fire and leading to more hostility towards Chinese workers. The firsthand account of Lee Chew, a Chinese immigrant to America in the early 1880s, shows the disparities between the white man s perception of Chinese laborers and reality as well as the hostility that arose as a result. When Lee first arrived in America, he started working as a housekeeper for a family in California, being paid $3.50 a week and being able to keep 50 cents afterwards. Eugenics practices occurred around the world for more than a century and are still part of scientific progress and discussion today. Some of the most imperative instances are Religion, Anglo Americans, the Intolerable Acts and taxes, and the role of the Tories. They consisted of royal officials, wealthy merchants, conservative urban lawyers, people who disliked pro revolution citizens, southern slaves who looked to Britain in hope of freedom, and a multitude of Indian tribes. Contrary to popular view, one could argue that the American Revolution was not only a fight between the Patriots and the British, but it was really a civil war between the Rebels and the Tories. The fight between the Rebels and the Tories can be described as brutal because of the guerilla warfare, brigade war, tarring and feathering, and killings that were exhibited between the two sides. According to Tories: Fighting For the King in America s First Civil War, General Nathanael Greene stated, The division among the people is much greater than I imagined and the Whigs and Tories persecute each other, with little less than savage fury. There is nothing but murders and devastation in every quarter. (Thomas Allen p. 1). The Tories main concern was stability, which the British could provide to them unlike the rebels. Many times, this would divide families because they would disagree on whether they wanted to be a Tory or a Rebel. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Social media may appear to be irrelevant here at first, however social media is actually again at the core of this issue because social media can often act as a safe haven for those who are socially ostracized because it connects those who are in similar situations together. This is especially problematic in terms of both the integrity of identity and purpose as well the person s own future even if they never discovery their purpose because this new community would both further confused their sense of identity and purpose but also integrate and validate ideas and values of others which potentially resulted in their social exile. Christianity s focus on salvation and its evangelism is absolutely vital to pulling people out and preventing them from ever being trapped in this echo chamber because the two combined offer those who have been ostracized a way back even though the rest of society has written them off as failures. This, if successful, brings those who are most vulnerable or have already fallen victim to social media at varying levels towards individual development of identity and purpose without the dangers of social media. This development of identity and purpose is supported by the sense of community brought from the fact that many of those around you had also suffered but had found salvation through the same means. However, this may seem to be more of the original problem that contributed to the confusion of identify and purpose however the Christian community is bound together by a shared forgiveness of their past misdeeds so as to move on and continue to develop identity and purpose whereas these types of social media communities are only bound together by a collective, ... • 38. Differences Between Power And Authority Question 1: Distinguish between power and authority. Do you believe the foundation of criminal justice organizations is power or authority? Why? Give examples in everyday criminal justice life that reflect the differences among these concepts. Answer: According to Stojkovic, Kalinich, and Klofas (2015), power can be defined as A construct that underscores that importance of how compliance among subordinates is achieved (p. 288). Power can be at both a person and organizational level and there are five forms, including coercive power, reward power, legitimate power, referent power, and expert power (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). In contrast, authority is demoting the compliance with particular directives essential for achieving a common or shared goal (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015, p. 290). The three forms of author include, traditional authority, charismatic authority, and legal authority (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). Power can become authority over time and authority is useful for when individuals must be supervised within an organization (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). I believe the foundation of criminal justice organizations is authority because everyone is trying to attain the same goal and be successful (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). If power is distributed among too many employees, then that could lead to role conflict (Stojkovic, Kalinich, Klofas, 2015). It is important to have supervisors with authority over ... Bowlby believed that for a strong attachment to be formed there must be proximity maintenance (the desire to be near the people we are attached to), a safe haven(returning to the attachment figure for comfort and safety in the face of a fear or threat), a secure base(the attachment figure acts as a base of security from which the child can explore the surrounding environment),and separation distress (anxiety that occurs in the absence of the attachment figure). The main points of his attachment theory were that a child has an innate need to attach to one main attachment figure(monotropy). Another main point in his theory was that he believed a child should receive the continuous care of the single most important attachment figure for the first two years of life. Bowlby used the term maternal deprivation to refer to the failure to develop an attachment, and to refer to the separation or loss of a mother. To support his hypothesis that the relationship between the infant and mother in the first five years was crucial to socialization, and the disruption of this relationship can lead to emotional difficulties, antisocial behavior, and delinquency, he studied forty four juvenile delinquents in a child guidance clinic. It is difficult to obtain enough SSCs to serve for the toxicity testing from biopsy of human testis. The rapid progress in stem cell research has opened a new era for exploring human spermatogenesis. Mouse ESCs, nonhuman primate (NHP) ESCs, and hESCs have been differentiated into primordial germ cells (PGCs) and fetal precursors of the spermatogenic lineage [50 61]. hiPSCs can enter meiosis and in some cases produce haploid products in vitro [55, 56, 60, 62, 63]. hESCs and hiPSCs are reported to differentiate directly into advanced male spermatogenic lineages in vitro [56, 62, 64 66]. • 45. Advantages And Disadvantages Of CO2 Laser Carbon dioxide laser ablation: The carbon dioxide (CO2) laser has been in use for decades as a tool in general and dermatological surgery. The CO2 laser creates an infrared light at a 10600 nm wavelength that produces a thermal effect on targeted tissue. The energy from the laser rapidly heats intracellular and extracellular water to 100 ºC, causing vaporization, thus disrupting cell membranes and causing cell death. The laser is used to vaporize a layer of epithelium, and this skin is cleared from the field with a moistened cotton tip applicator or gauze. Johnson et al. described the depth of treatment for CO2 laser therapy, as several histologic layers can be differentiated with consecutive laser passes, such that the full depth of dysplastic involvement can be removed. Thus, use of the laser is theoretically curative for AC and does not cause deep dermal damage with ensuing scar formation. Anyone in this situation would want to make friends that would accept them in the new town. This is the position Levi, one of the main characters in Elizabeth Eulberg s Better off Friends, is in when he starts middle school. Macallan, the other main character, is the person that befriends Levi, and they become very close very fast. Being a new kid from down south, many people stereotype Levi because of how he looks and the way he acts, which was normal in Los Angeles where he used to live, but odd to the people in Wisconsin. For this reason the boys at school did not really want to hang out with Levi, and that is why he and Macallan become such good friends in a short amount of time. The two of them could find a lot that they had in common, even though they were from completely different places. Macallan and Levi were together a lot, so when they hung out just the two of them, people would think they were dating when they were not. This is the second stereotype addressed in the book; a boy and a girl that spend lots of time together do not have to be a boyfriend and a girlfriend. Throughout middle school and high school, they were constantly asked if they were dating, when they were not. Therefore, in Better off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg, Eulberg addresses stereotypes about where people come from and people of the opposite gender being just friends. First ... This period saw a new experimentation in ideas and attitudes among the population, which was not welcomed by many. As Christopher Hill writes What was new in the 17 centaury was the idea that the world might be permanently turned upside down . In the wake of Charles s regicide there was a popular mid seventeenth centaury ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As. Michel Lynch states: It was the great issue that defined settlement , or peace in this case. One group challenging this were the True Levellers mockingly known as Diggers: With beliefs in equality, community and true religion for all they argued that land was a common treasury and lived in communes detached from society. The most famous commune was on St George s Hill, where common land was taken over by a group numbering around 50 led by Winstanly. Their ideas derived and supported from the Bible were radical in that they directly threatened the gentry and the landowners. As Michel Lynch states they . were regarded as an intolerable affront to established rights of property referring to a lifestyle of sexual promiscuity, heavy drinking and frequent blaspheming , usurping land laws and ownership. Reactions and accusations followed that they were Drunk on the Bible , thus dramatising many aspects of Digger practice. Just how seriously they challenged established order was evident in violent clashes that culminated in their removal under Cromwell s orders Lynch further poses an interesting idea that In an exact sense they were communists . He is suggesting that here may lie the original seeds that led to later Communism. That the first statue of Winstanly was erected in Russia after Lenin s consolidation of power shows the extent of their influence in later history and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
