The Concept Of Intersectionality, What Can You Share About...
Describe the person; based on the concept of intersectionality, what can you share about their
identity?
For my ethnography paper I interviewed a 30 year old female who emigrated from Mexico to
escape the violence of her father. She was born in a rural area of Sinaloa secluded in the
mountains where you see cartels go to war just stepping out of your door could get you killed.
During the interview you mentioned that when she was growing her father joined the cartel to make
sure that no harm came to her or her four sisters. Her mother did everything she could so that they
could be educated and would be able to survive in the real world outside of the village. Her mother
was the village teacher she taught the boys basic math and the girls ... Show more content on

He proposed that they emigrate to the United States for a better life. When they arrived to the
U.S. she thought everything would change the abuse would stop and her father would be a new
man. Unfortunately it was to much to hope for her father was still an alcoholic and her mother
was terrified. Her sisters got married within three months that they arrived to U.S, but not her
she wanted to get an education and become a successful lawyer. She decided she would go to
school and work towards her dream. Although it was not the easiest thing to do she put herself
through law school with money that she had saved from when her father was in the cartel. She
was proud of herself she made it out of the cartel and made her dreams come true even with all the
obstacles. One thing she did emphasize is that although she is now a successful lawyer her father
still does not accept her or her career.
2. How have economic, social, and political realities impacted them? For example, how may they
have experienced discrimination, oppression or privilege as a result of membership in their various
identity groups?
From the interview I realize that this woman s life was filled with economic and political
discrimination and oppression. When she was in Mexico she was being forced to marry a drug
lord because her family was poor and in her town women needed to be submissive to men. She
was being oppressed for being a women where she could only be a housewife and nothing more than

Essay on The Mexican-American War
The Mexican American war determined the destiny of the United States of America, it determined
whether or not it would become a world power and it established the size of the United States of
America. Perhaps the war was inevitable due to the idea of Manifest Destiny Americans thought
they had the divine right to extend their territory. The Mexican American War started mainly
because of the annexation of the Republic of Texas (established in 1836 after breaking away from
Mexico). The United Statesand Mexico still had conflicts on what the borders of Texas was, the
United States claimed that the Texas border with Mexico was the Rio Grande, but the Mexicans
said that it was the Nueces River, so the land in between were disputed and... Show more content on

During the battle of Resaca de la Palma, both sides engaged in vicious hand to hand fighting, the
American Cavalry managed to capture the Mexican Artillery resulting in the Mexicans
retreating and rerouting, but because of the terrain, Arista could not rally his troops. The
Mexicans had heavy casualties and were forced to abandon their artillery and other supplies.
Fort Brown caused more casualties when the Mexicans were crossing the river of Rio Grande.
A month later, on June 14th 1846 in California, native English speaking people arrested the
Mexican governor and imprisoned him and declared California the California Republic. Sloat
claimed Monterey and took control of the California Republic. Laterhe transferred his command
to Robert F. Stockton under the orders from congress. At the same time, Kearny with 1700 US
troops marched to Sante Fe, New Mexico and took control. Kearny later proceeded with 300
dragoons along the Gila River valley. Later on, he sent back 200 of his 300 dragoons believing
the war in California was over. But he clashed with the Mexican militia the settlement of San
Pasqual because he mistakenly believed that it would be a miss match in the favor of him. He was

Green Mile Portrays Our Execution System
Is it fitting that the Green Mile portrays our execution system in such a demeaning way? Some
argue this is an accurate portrayal of our, as they would say broken system. The book seems to
exaggerate key details to prove how cowardly this system is. As the character start to get to know
each other life is suddenly snapped away from them, how you may be asking through the death
penalty. This book does accurately portrait how corrupt this system can become. Eduard Delacroix
execution had a huge impact on Paul Edgecombes thinking throughout the story. After the
execution of Eduard we hear a confession from Percy Wetmore saying he was the reason the
execution went horribly wrong. I didn t know the sponge was supposed to be wet, Percy said in

Wage Led Growth Good For Credit Unions And The Macro Economy
Wage led growth good for credit unions and the macro economy
2016 opened with stock markets in turmoil, news on the slowing Chinese economy, and oil prices
falling below $30 a barrel. Credit unions have concerns on how these affects their operations.
Concerned investors overreacted to the news of a slower Chinese economy, which partly explains
the stock market turmoil in the U.S. and around the world. China s economy is not immune from
the business cycle. Its economy s growth rate eventually came down from the double digits to the
single digits as it undergoes structural changes. China is shifting from an export led to a domestic
consumption driven economy. Since 1976, the beginning of China s journey towards integration
into the global economy, annual GDP growth averaged 9.5%. Since 2012, growth has been below
average falling to 6.8% in the fourth quarter of 2015. While it can be argued that China s economic
slowdown has both direct and indirect effects on the U.S. economy through trade and financial
flows, a slowing Chinese economy has marginal effects on credit unions. Moreover, it is difficult to
aggregate the effects of China s economic slowdown in future U.S. economic growth.
Unlike banks, credit unions have limited exposure to the ever present daily gyrations in the stock
market. The stock market turmoil in January was not a viable indicator of a U.S. economic
slowdown. The stock rout was a result of investors reaction to further declines in oil prices, strength

Narcissism Of Minor Differences Analysis
AHMED A. MOHDHAR STUDENT NUMBER: 213237417 POLS 3200: GLOBAL
CONFLICT AND SECURITY (I) FINAL ESSAY: IDENTITY AS A CAUSE FOR THE
SOMALI CONFLICTS Identity continues to be a major cause for many wars, both within and
without a country. History has proven that conflicts within the borders mostly involve people
with very little difference between them. Most of civil wars in nations often start as ethnicity
feuds and end up to full scale wars. In the chapter, The Narcissism of Minor Differences, Blok
argues that it is often the small differences that lead up to prolonged struggles (p115, 2000).

religious background but for a third decade now, members... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There have been several Islamic militant groups in Somalia with the aim of controlling the
country. Al Shabaab is the current of those groups with a claim to make Somali an Islamic state,
while at the same time getting rid of the inter clan wrangles. However, the group s actions were
more of polarizing the communities along religious lines. The Narcissism of minor difference
applies here as well; Somalia s population is overwhelmingly Muslim. However, Al shabaab has
an extremist view of Islam and intends to make everyone follow the same ideas, those who do
not, they believe deserve to die. Solomon argues that Al Shabaab s form of Islam contradicts with
most of Somali s cultural beliefs, hence creating a major rift between the militants and the
population (p352, 2014). The group use the worst kind of violence against people they believe do
not follow the right Islam; from beheading and lynching alleged offenders to bombing local
mosques, restaurants, and learning institutions (various). Again, all of their victims inside Somalia
are Muslim Somalis who worship the same God as them, but according to them, they worship Him
the wrong way. Blok in trying to justify his claim cited a Balkan expert, Hammel on the conflict in
the former Yugoslav republics (p126, 2000). He argues that the Serb and Croat peasants do not

What Does The Pear Tree Symbolize In Their Eyes Were...
In the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, written by Zora Neale Hurston, the use of symbols
helps the reader understand Janie. At the earliest moments in the book, symbols are used to
describe how Janie feels and what her emotions are like without addressing them. From the time she
experiences what love feels like, Janie tries to find it throughout the books. The pear tree is used
throughout the novel, from the time of Janie s time as a teenager till the end of her relationship
with Tea Cake. It has numerous appearances that at the end connect and help the reader understand
Janie s venture to find love. Hurston uses the pear tree to show the development of Janie s fantasy
of love and her search for it in the novel.

When meeting Joe Starks and running off to marry him, she has thoughts about how he is going
to be the bee for her bloom (32). Janie believes that Joe will be someone who is going to open up
the feelings from the experience with the pear tree in her, like how the bees pollinate the
flowers of the tree. As the dust baring bee sinks into the sanctum of a bloom , it created a feeling
of love and respect for each part (11). Moreover, since bees have a very important relationship
with flowers, like the ones on the pear tree, and their process of blooming, Janie feels that the
marriage will be strong. Joe, in addition, promises Janie she will be living at a high standard,
things Logan was unable to give her. However, she later realizes she has made another mistake
with this marriage, leaving her to imagine the shadow of herself going about tending the store
and prostrating itself before Jody, while all the time she herself sat under a shady tree with the
wind blowing through her hair and her clothes. Somebody near about making summertime out of
lonesomeness. (77). The reader can easily see the disconnect between Janie s current life and the
life she wants to live. For her dream to be a reality , she needs to escape her real life in order to do
so, which she sees as a lonesome task. When comparing it to the interaction between bees and
flowers, it is nothing

1a) Advantages of free international trade
1.Increasing the production.
Countries are enabled by free international trade to specialise or to focus in the production of the
goods in which they have a comparative advantage. Specialisation countries can take the benefit of
efficiencies generated from increased output and economies of trade. The size of the firm s market
are increased by the international trade which results in lower average costs and increasing in
productivity, as it ultimately leads to increase in production.
2.Production efficiencies.

With free international trade a lot of jobs will be created in the country, especially in industries of
manufacturing and services which can absorb the unemployment that created by restructuring as
firms down their workforce.
Disadvantages of free international trade.
1.Structural unemployment may occur in the short term with the removal of trade barriers. This
will have impact on large numbers of workers, as well as their families and local economies. In
growth industries workers often will have difficulties to find employment.
2.Business, consumers and employees are more weak to downturns in the economies of trading
partners. For example, recession in the USA leads to decrease in demand for UK s exports,
leading to falling in export incomes, lower GDP and incomes, decrease in domestic demand and
rising in unemployment.
3.Some of the countries with surplus commodities may dumb them on international markets at a
low price. Under such conditions, some of the efficient industries can might find difficulties in
competing for long period. Furthermore, countries whose economies are mostly rural will face
unfavourable terms of trade. For example, ration of export prices to import prices. Which means
that their export income is more smaller than their import payments the make for high value added
imports, as it leads to subsequently large foreign debt levels.

directing their campaign from Australia as it started to perceive threats from Japan (2). By
1942, Brisbane had been set up as the support and training base for the Pacific War (2). Military
personal from America started arriving in Brisbane, with the small number of troops requiring
accommodation being dealt with by leasing rooms in many of the CBDs hotels, guest houses, or
by leasing rooms in private residences (5). This solution was quickly obsolete as troops poured

Since the racecourse was an important recreation facility in Brisbane, the Americans were not
allowed to damage the racetracks, therefore the campsite remained a tented city, with only a few
temporary pre fabricated buildings (5). Similarly, Victoria Park, another large open field, was
offered to the US Army to set up camp. It too was handed over with very strict rules that it had to
be given back to council with no damages. The sites close proximity to the CBD and Normanby
rail yards made it a prime spot for the troops, and so a camp site was set up with prefabricated
huts spread throughout the park. The exhibition grounds, The Rocklea State School and
showgrounds, Yeronga Park, the Camp site in Moorooka, and the Chermside Army Camps were
all also sites chosen due to their large grounds and access to tramlines. Chermside in particular,
had to accommodate 3,500 militia troops, and so they were accommodated on a large paddock
that was close to Geebung railway station and also had good road access. The camps had a vast
array of tented lines for accommodation, with pre fabricated buildings housing the camps messes
and bathing areas (5). Camp sites sometimes also had a certain type of demographic allowed
inside. This segregation meant that there were sites specifically for married men, bachelors, African
Americans, and Females. Camp Freeman for example was set up to accommodate the

Midwestern Contemporary Art Case Study Essay
Midwestern Contemporary Art Case Study The Midwestern Contemporary Art case study presents
a relationship between a director; Keith Schmidt, and Peter Smith the chairman. Peter Smith
pledged $5 million towards the Midwestern Contemporary Art Museum. Both Peter Smith and
Keith Schmidt had a disagreement on the way the funds should be spent on projects around the
museum. Smith and Schmidt both seem to have the best interest of the museum at heart. Moreover,
these two men took different approaches to helping the museum. Peter Smith proceeded cautiously
and the director, Keith Schmidt seemed more ambitious. Keith Schmidt was very confident in his
abilities and was puzzled as to why Mr. Smith and the board members were not confident in his
abilities and continually questioned his decisions.
Peter Smith was fed up with the conduct of Mr. Schmidt, and left the Midwestern Contemporary Art

Pavers Essay
If we say pavers , and you think of bricks, you are in for a surprise. Pavers are a huge part of our
hardscapes, and there are enough different types to warrant a whole page.
NATURAL STONE PAVERS: These may be limestone, flagstone, or shale. For more exquisite
tastes, consider marble, travertine, or granite.
CULTURED STONE PAVERS: If you desire the look of expensive stone but would rather avoid
the price tag, or simply don t want to have the weight of the real stone to deal with, consider using
cultured pavers. These manufactured replicas are just as durable, lighter, and less expensive.
Choices then break into the following groupings. Some categories consist of natural and cultured
options, while others, such as the permeable varieties, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While some of these are in overlapping categories, such as grass pavers or interlocking concrete,
that isn t necessarily true for all of them.
INTERLOCKING CONCRETE PAVERS: This style is another permeable paver, and they lock
together for a good, tight fit. These make beautiful patios, walkways, and driveways. Some are
standard shaped, but others are special shapes which interlock in beautiful patterns. The standout,
defining feature of these pavers is that they give a solid appearance. The materials, however, allow
water to seep through. This advantage is not found with all types of pavers, and sometimes this is
the reason to opt for this type of paver.
BRICK PAVERS: These kiln fired blocks are one of the most common types of building materials
,
and there are millions of homes around the country with bricks in the patio or walkway. They are
durable.
GRASS PAVERS: These pavers are an amazing technological feat. The purpose of these pavers is
to manage the rainwater, and allow it to move back into the ground while keeping the ground
stable and solid. They are beautiful as well, and can almost be an art form of their own. The
geometric shapes can be complex, or quite simple, but all are a beautiful way to enhance your
grounds while allowing a green space. These are wonderful for people who may have smaller
yards. If you have challenges with standing water or run off, these may be a great option. Consider

Every woman knows this well. They are always faced with another person basing their worth on
their looks, weight, clothes, hair, and makeup. In short, their worth is based on their looks to
many people, and they are taught that from a young age. And, every single person who tells them

Of course, this applies to all women, even the conventionally beautiful women, because every

The Great Migration Of Chinese Immigrants In The 19th Century
Similar to all the other countries in the 19th century, early Chinese immigrants were pushed by
forces in China and pulled by attractions in the United States. These pushes mainly came from
natural disasters, internal rebellious, and imperialistic aggressions in China. The pulls came from
the discovery of gold in Californiaand different kinds of opportunities in the United States. The
push and pull factors resulted in the great migration of Chinese to the United States.
In the early 1800s, China faced lots of natural disasters. The major ones were happened in Henan

Colonialism In Australia
Introduction Colonialism is defined as the practice of domination, which involves control of one
person to another (Plato.stanford.edu, 2018). This usually involves the settlement of citizens from
colonial power in the colony. Indigenous Australians have been marginalised by settler colonial
Australians, results of this has impacted the way Indigenous Australians are viewed and treated in
contemporary society. Indigenous people have struggled to regain their rights such as reclaiming
their identities that were misappropriate by the presence of colonials (Maddison, 2013).

contemporary Australia. In many ways settler colonials continue to dominate ... Show more content

Terra Nullius is an example of how settler colonialism tried to take ownership of Australian land.
Terra Nullius is a Latin word that means land belonging to no one (Craven and Parbury, 1999).
Captain James Cook claimed Australia and declared that Australia seems to have no fixed habitation
but instead habitants of the land, move around from place to place like wild beasts in search of
food (Craven and Parbury, 1999). The British settlement and takeover of Australia affected, attitudes
and treatment of Indigenous. Terra Nullius denied the humanity and existence of Indigenous
Australians and can be considered the cause of most racism towards Indigenous Australia. This has
led to the White Australia Act, which depended on the non existence of Indigenous and also the
racialisation of Indigenous Australians. The Indigenous population in Australia became subject to
racialised identity categories based on their degrees of blood, labelling and classifying people as
full blood, half cast (Maddison, 2013). This policy led to removing Indigenous children from their
families and communities. This policy was enforced with the intention to erase the Indigenous
population, by blending them into invisibility within the colonial population (Maddison, 2013).
However, in 2008, the federal parliament gave an apology to the stolen generation (The
Conversation, 2018). This comes after many years of

Watching Tv Makes You Smarter, By Steven Johnson
In the article Watching TV Makes You Smarter, Steven Johnson argues why and how television can
make you smarter. In another article, Thinking Outside the Idiot Box, Dana Stevens contradicts
everything Steven Johnson said in his article about television making people more intelligent.
Steven Johnson s argument is that television can actually make you smarter because when you
watch a show, you are trying to understand everything that is happening. Today s shows have a lot
of action and scenes trying to keep people s attention. Therefore, people carefully tune in to
television shows trying to understand everything that goes on during the show. Johnson said, You
have to pay attention, make inferences, and track shifting social relationships. For instance,
depending on how the characters interact with one another, changes happen as the plot of the story
continues on. An example of this is if a character happens to disagree with another character and an
enemy of both characters comes into the mix, and those two characters join forces to defeat their
enemy. The spontaneous changes like this constantly change the storyline to make it more
interesting for the viewer. Johnson mentions the Sleeper Curve and how it is considered to enhance
our cognitive faculties, not dumbing them down. The author displayed several examples showing
the many plots that happen throughout different shows. The more complex the show, the Sleeper
Curve pattern was more detailed.

The Arctic Of The Antarctic Circle
Any point north of the Arctic Circle or south of the Antarctic Circle will have one period in the
summer when the sun does not set, and one period in the winter when the sun does not rise. At
progressively higher latitudes, the maximum periods of midnight sun and polar night are
progressively longer. For example, at the military and weather station Alert located at
82°30′05″N and 62°20′20″W, on the northern tip of Ellesmere Island, Canada (about
450 nautical miles or 830 km from the North Pole), the sun begins to peek above the horizon for
minutes per day at the end of February and each day it climbs higher and stays up longer; by 21
March, the sun is up for over 12 hours. On 6 April the sun rises at 0522 UTC and remains above
the horizon until it sets below the horizon again on 6 September at 0335 UTC. By October 13
the sun is above the horizon for only 1 hour 30 minutes and on October 14 it does not rise above
the horizon at all and remains below the horizon until it rises again on 27 February.[17] First light
comes in late January because the sky has twilight, being a glow on the horizon, for increasing
hours each day, for more than a month before the sun first appears with its disc above the horizon.
From mid November to mid January, there is no twilight. In the weeks surrounding 21 June, in the
northern polar region, the sun is at its highest elevation, appearing to circle the sky there without
going below the horizon. Eventually, it does go below the horizon,

Sarajevo, Bosnia. This led to the July Crisis which was a month long diplomatic situation between
multiple European countries, with Austria Hungary delivering an ultimatum with the intention of
inciting war with Serbia, the party that was guilty for Franz Ferdinand s murder. This led to the
mobilization of Russia in defense of its ally, Serbia, which then led Germany to mobilize, then get
refused permission to pass through Belgium into France, and they subsequently declared war on
Belgium. This led to Britain declaring war on Germany as the British felt Belgium should be left

later recalls being on the road riding behind the next soldier and admiring the weather in the
countryside. He also notes how much one learns of human nature, good and bad, as well as the
inner strength the war evokes in a person. This is a strong contrast to his description of the rigors
of war and speaks to his character being able to take in what is around him and appreciate what he

Scientist, Jared Diamond, Explains How Europeans Gained...
Many Caucasian s have thought and believed positively they were superior to many other races.
Most of these people were from a geographic area that had advanced technology, large
populations, and a large workforce. This area started in the Middle East and spread laterally within
a similar environment that provided a fertile habitat for farmer gatherers. Jared Diamond
discovered that approximately 13,000 years ago man started out as hunter gatherers following
seasonal game migration to provide food for their survival. Man would find whatever food that
grew in that area to supplement the game animals for sustenance, but this activity would take a
majority of his time and would be conditional to the regions environment and his own... Show more

This in turn freed up many workers to produce other necessities. One very important item was steel.
From it came better tools for farming and weapons. The Middle East lost its advantage due to
drought conditions. Egypt used the wheat, barley, sheep, goats, cows, and pigs to transform human
society. Egypt produced enough food to free a workforce that built one of the wonders of the
world, the pyramids. These engineers and inventers discovered resources in their environment to
produce clay, steel, gunpowder, and paper. The scholars of the culturespread philosophy, religion,
and politics. Paper and the invention of printing preserved knowledge and history, along with better
steel and guns gave the power to dominate other cultures in less fortunate environments. Building
sea worthy boats enabled the armies to conquer these cultures and take their resources for their own
gain. Trading with other powerful cultures producing goods increased the diverse resources with
which to become a superpower and to continue to dominate the sea and many different lands. But
with the large cities and close proximity of people, and farms with animals in herds and humans
close together, came the quick spread of diseases. These diseases tempered populations, but also
some humans built up immunities, which were passed to their offspring. Therefore, even though
many people died, it did advance the civilization with anti bodies protecting the culture, but as

A Short Account Of Destruction Of The Indies Analysis
The last element to take in consideration when comparing these two perspectives is the validity of
them. Often, when writing, personal opinions and biased inter the paper. According to the
introduction, Las Cases was a conquistador how converted to the priests hood after having a
revolution. When writing A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies he was trying to
persuade the monarch that something need to be done about the Spaniards treatment of the natives.
To prove his point Las Casas more than likely over exaggerated the truth to make the atrocities
look worse than they were. For instance, the mascara of Cholula was actually instigated by the
Tlaxcala, another tribe of natives, to prove the Spaniard loyalty and in return; they would

History And The United States
The history of journalism in the United States has spanned from the first colonist crossing the
Atlantic Ocean to today s mass media. Even before we were a country we had printers and
journalists writing and printing stories for the people. Looking back, we can divide journalism
history into different time periods and see how news reporting developed over time. Some of
these time periods include the Colonial Period which spanned from when the first Pilgrims came
to America in the mid 1600 s till the 1760 s. Other periods include the Revolution period which
picked up from the colonial period till the early 1780 s. The period of Westward Expansion lasted
from the 1800 to the 1830 s, then there was the Civil WarPeriod which spanned from the 1840 s till
the 1860 s. Finally, the Interpretative Period which lasted from 1930 s and continues to today.
Looking back at these time periods we can see what was considered news and what was
newsworthy , the dominate issues of the periods, and how far we have come as a society from
those issues. The Colonial Period was the beginning of not only out country, but also the beginning
of our system of journalism. The colonial period dates back to the first settlers sailing over the
Atlantic in search of religious and political freedom from their oppressors in Europe. The people
during this time had a small definition for what they considered dominate news. In this time period,
most of the colonies had yet to be settled, and news only

Assignment 2 Met Essay
1. Is a temperature inversion more likely to form on a calm or a windy night? Why?
A temperature inversion is most likely to form on a calm night. Windy nights are not ideal for
an inversion to occur since an inversion is considered a stable layer of atmosphere as well as due to
the wind mixing the air to even out the density, remembering cold air is denser than warm air so it
will flow downhill and pool in a valley.

Vincent Van Gogh Analysis
Art Criticism 7.3 The landscape being examined is Vincent Van Gogh, The Poplars at Saint
Remy, 1889, oil on fabric. The textures in this painting are not very deceiving and are spread all
across the painting. However the foreground contains a largely more detailed texture much like a
matte finish. The foreground contains many pointed rectangular shaped forms, presumably stone
and rock formations. There is also some grass growing at the very edge of the piece, closest to
the viewer. The colors here are mostly white, grey, blue and lastly green. Here the colors are quite
dull and cool too.The middleground consists of the countryside and mainly, the trees. The color
scheme consists of mostly green shades as well as some light blue and dull... Show more content on

So in essence, the texture is real because the texture that is displayed on the oil canvass greatly
mirror s it s actual feel. The flow of the white brushstrokes in the sky seems to give the painting
its feel of movement and the curvy outer lines on the trees emphasize the effect of wind upon the
trees. The river contains vertical blue brush strokes greatly reinforcing the movement of water in
the painting. Similarly the feeling of depth is achieved by enlarging the objects in the foreground
while downsizing the objects in the middle ground. It is also achieved by the direction of which
the strokes are implemented. For example, the horizontal texture in the brushstrokes of the
Razzack 3 foreground greatly form a contrast between the rock formation and the river and field
beneath it(vertical brushstrokes) With this in mind, Van Gogh s use of brush strokes fits in well
with his intention of the flow of movement in the picture. If I had created these textures I would
have used thinner and more precise brush strokes in order to display the texture I wanted in the
finest detail. This way the texture maybe considered as implied and therefore a deceitful simulated
texture. The predominant color scheme in this landscape is the use of blue, green and orange. The
blue is for the sky, green for the fields and

Scholarly Journals On Scientific Communication
The publication of scientific work is critically important to scientific communication (Twaij et
al. 2014). Scientists communicate their new research or studies to their audience by publishing
their work in scholarly journals and books. People who are not from the area of expertise or are
unfamiliar with the given topic must be able to trust in the credibility of published journal
articles. A common process that controls the high quality of scientific publication is called peer
review , which ensures that the published work has met the specific standards of a given
discipline, a process that usually begins with a professional reviewing of an author s article by a
community of qualified experts before publication. The reviewers are usually chosen from
relevant academic fields and in some cases, the authors are allowed to suggest names of their
preferred peer reviewers (Bornmann 2011). The reviewer is responsible for identifying the
strengths and weaknesses of the paper, giving constructive comments along with acceptance
revision rejection decisions (Do 2003) to the author. More importantly, the peer review process
makes a substantial contribution to determine whether the manuscript contains any fatal flaws
(Brand 2012), such as plagiarism, duplicated research or even wrong science. Therefore, peer
review plays a critical role in scientific communication by improving the quality of published
papers. A survey conducted by Ware showed that a majority of authors (91%)

Allah says in the Qur an not to despise one another. So the criterion in Islam is not color or social

Imperialism
Whether for economic, nationalist, or humanitarian reasons, more powerful nations have often
interfered with the affairs of weaker nations. These more powerful nations, including the
United States, Britain, and several European countries, have in the past exploited less fortunate
ones for resources, capital, and knowledge. Yet in return countries located in South America, Africa,
and
Southeast Asia have gained the technology and capital that, over a period of time and development,
improves their quality of life.
One point of view could be that imperialism results in oppression and abuse. While this is

While Japan was at peace with the
United States, a time called the Meiji Period caused newly learned ideas to change the Japanese
government, resulting in the more industrialized and prosperous country we see today.
In the mid 1800s, interference by both Britain and France in Africa opened up great opportunities
for all nations. Ali borrowed money from many European nations in order to better
Egyptian society. With this money he created schools, irrigation, and a powerful military. This
interference of European nations allowed France to build the Suez Canal, linking the
Mediterranean and Red seas. Britain obtained control over Egypt and the canal because Egypt was
going through a great financial crisis. This allowed European ships to pass through the canal and
cut thousands of miles off their travel distance around Africa, bringing a great wealth of trade from
Asia that helped all of Europe, especially Britain. This interference both improved the quality of life
in Egypt and in the more powerful nations of Europe. It created a needed education system and
increased harvests for Egypt, providing further evidence that such interference should be permitted.
Probably the greatest achievement of Imperialism would be that of Indian independence.
Intervening by Britain in India resulted in the rising to fame of Ghandi, and the non violent
rebellion that followed. Britain s interference led to oppression of

Yokuts California Case Study
The Yokuts: A California Case Study
The Yokuts inhabited the San Joaquin valley in California. There were over 40 independent groups
and each of them had a distinct name, dialect and territory. The San Joaquin Valley is bounded by
mountains on the east, west and south and to the north flow the Kern and San Joaquin rivers into the
ocean. The climate in the valley is hot with dry mild summers, semiarid winters and very
minimal precipitation. Originally, the area was rich in a network of rivers, streams, lakes and
sloughs fed by waters from Sierra Nevada to the east and it is very productive and rich in
resources such as food, wood for construction, firewood and manufacturing tools. After these
rivers and streams were diverted for agricultural purposes, the valley dried up and became a vast
area of farmland. The foothills elevations are higher and cooler and are occupied by some Yokuts
groups. They managed their environment both passively and actively to improve forage for deer,
eliminate underbrush growth, make it easy to traverse, and for hunters as well. Passively, they did
religious ceremonies to ensure the continuation of favorable conditions.
The Yokuts spoke the Penutian language but each mini tribe spoke a different dialect. The earliest
recorded contact with the Europeans was when the Spanish came looking or renegade soldiers.
Spanish expeditions to the San Joaquin took Yokuts to missions but then the United States seized

What Is Better Than College Theatre
Never in a million years would I have imagined that I would be able to identify myself as an

Negative Connotation Of Control
Control is a negative term that is thrown around too often in today s society. Everyone needs the
right amount of self control, but it s unhealthy to control the way others live. Control can be
described through many different situations. We see an excessive amount of control when it comes
to interacting with others. Controlis factored into many family problems such as domestic violence
and divorce complications, which allows us to understand the negative connotation of control.
Domestic violence is becoming prominent in interpersonal relationships. Many celebrities have
shared their experiences with the public describing their controlling relationships. Tina Turner

The Somalian Refugee Crisis Essay
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees announced, Somalia s drought and refugee
crisis is the most severe humanitarian emergency in the world, (UNHCR, 2011). Although
estimates vary, about 800,000 people have left Somalia seeking asylum. Most now reside in
refugee camps in bordering Kenya and Ethiopia. Many trek for days with little or food to seek
safety and assistance in refugeecamps only to find conditions that are no better. Host nations and
humanitarian organizations cannot support the vast number of refugees that have already crossed
the border and thousands more arrive every day. Maintenance of the current course of action is not
the answer. Besides conjuring more international assistance and humanitarian aid, it is... Show more

By early summer (1992), at least 300,000 civilians had already died and in July (2009) the
International Committee of the Red Cross re iterated its six month old estimates that 95 percent of
the population of Somalia was malnourished and 70 percent in imminent danger of death by
starvation, (Jon Western, 1999). Between 1992 and 1995 a UN Peacekeeping force and a small
American lead coalition attempted to stabilize the country. After limited success, both eventually
pulled out. In the decade that followed fighting between warlords, political groups, and neighboring
countries have contributed to numerous failed attempts to establish a functioning government. The
country is considered a failed state.
To compound the issues, in the last two years limited rain fall has caused the worst drought in
over 60 years. The already overwrought food situation exponentially worsted as crops and
livestock die due to water shortages. As a result the numbers of refugees have recently increased
dramatically, with over 330,000 Somalis seeking refuge since January of 2011, (UNHCR, 2011).
For the Somali people, options are very limited. Warlords have actually banned humanitarian efforts
in some areas. When left with little choice they abandon their homes and make for the shelter of a
neighboring country. Tens of thousands of families travel by foot carrying their children sometimes
for more than a week. Most times with

The Growth Of Employees Benefits Occurred After World...
The growth of employees benefits occurred after World War Two during the first phase of the
American Industrialization. The primary reason was to attract employees because of the shortage
that World War two which created less available employees in the workforce industry. Another
cause leading to benefits growth is the ability of companies with a large number of employees to
purchase insurance at a lower cost than individual insurance. Benefits are considered a crucial
component of an employee s overall compensation and might include medical coverage, disability
insurance, retirement benefits and investment options in the form of stock share or 401k. The
government mandates US companies operating in US to offer obligatory benefits such as Social
Security retirement benefits, workers compensation and unemployment insurance. The US health
care reform was introduced initially during Harry Truman s administration, and it was
concentrated on the issues of coverage rather than the costs and the consequences. Only on March
23, 2010 the Affordable Care Act was signed into law by President Barack Obama. Under the
health care reform every individual is obliged to get coverage through a health plan, Medicaid, or
other public programs; otherwise a penalty will be applied. Americans will be able to check the
rates and choose a plan online through the health insuranceexchange program. Federal subsidies or
reductions are available for individuals or families whose incomes fall

Black Health Network
Practice Project 2: Campaign Analysis
1.The California Black Health Network was established in 1978 by African American health
professionals in San Diego, California. Initially their vision and passion was advocating for access
to quality and affordable health care. In addition, their mission was to improve the health status of
people of African American descent in California and eliminate health disparities through
legislative, administrative and media advocacy (cbhn.com). This effort awarded the organization in
1980 to hold their first statewide conference. CBHN co founded other ethnic networks such as the
California Pan Ethnic Network (CPEHN) and they were also instrumental in creating the office of
multicultural health. Initially CBHN was made up of six chapters and two affiliate organizations.

vigorously in informing the community about the act and what it meant to the lives of African
Americans. The infant mortality rate in the African American community is among the highest in
the nation and CBHN has brought forth communication strategies to bring critical awareness to this
fact and the data concerning the epidemic. In regards to mental wellness, there is a disproportionate
share of African Americans that are affected by mental health issues in California. Thus, the
California institute of mental health has asked the CBHN to host series of webinars regarding the
impact of mental health to the African American community. Within this effort, there has been an
emphasis on boys of men of color as nationally they have been unjustly targeted and also face an

Character Analysis on Nunnally Johnson in The Grape of Wrath
The Grape of Wrath is one of the best known representations of the depression and the things that
people went through. It focuses on the Joad family, a small family that is forced out of their
home. Because of the large family they have with them, they have to head west in hopes of finding
jobs. After a long difficult journey, the finally reach California after finding a bill looking for
workers. They go through many different trials while the men try to find jobs, and the son, Tom
Joad is haunted by the past he thought that he left behind. All of the characters are very well
developed and they all have pros and cons. The best character in Grapes of Wrath, by Nunnally
Johnson, is Ma Joad because she is strong, kind, and determined. Ma Joad is the best character in
Grapes, by Johnson, because she is strong. The scene that Ma shows most how strong she is is
when she and Tom say goodbye. Tom has to leave because his past is haunting him and he is
terrified of getting his familyin trouble or hurt. The night he leaves, he tries to sneak out without
saying goodbye to anyone, but he accidentally wakes up Ma. They go outside and talk. Ma is
crying and hugging him but admits that she always knew that he would have to leave. Tom and
Ma are really close through the whole movie, so it is one of the hardest things ever for her to just
let him leave. She shows her strength by letting him go because she knows that it is the best thing

On 8 November 1895, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen at the University of Würzburg, discovered a new

The Theory Of Social Construction
A paradigm is a set of beliefs or assumptions that create the reality for a group. The values, moras,
and habits, all of which are socially constructed, create the reality for the group. The theory of
social construction is a theory that knowledge is constructed by humans for human use. We
communicate using rhetoric, allowing others to see into those socially constructed ideas or
paradigms. Rhetoric is the ability to ascertain and analyze, in any given context, the available
means of persuasion. Persuasion is necessary to convince the audience of one s paradigms. The
play, Angels In America, by Tony Kushner, focuses on two relationships that interconnect
throughout the entire play. Kushner informs the reader of a typical dismal life of someone with
AIDS during the Reagan and Bush eras. During this desperate time, self interest overtakes
everything else, allowing the power dynamics to become even more clear and powerful. This
hierarchy is socially constructed, but sets the reality for the unfortunate, marginalized lives of most
of those contracted with AIDS. Through the writing technique, ASAAP, I will establish the act,
scene, agent, agency, and purpose for each example. This fully explains each act literally and
figuratively, so one is able to fully comprehend the meaning behind each act. Kushner displays the
battle between liberals and conservatives, not only politically, but also personally. It is simple to
see the power dynamics in Act III, Scene II when Roy scores

Titanic Sinning

The Sinking of the Greatest
My paper is about the Titanic and why it is an important event in history. The Titanic was an
awfully big ship. It was about 883 feet long, and weighed 52,310 tons which is huge, the largest
ship ever actually. It was designed by Thomas Andrews, but built by Harland and Wolff
, which was
a ship building company. It was built in Belfast, United Kingdom. They started building the ship
on March 31, 1909 and launched the final ship project on May 31, 1911. Which I honestly think
they finished it really fast. The Titanic when full could carry 2,435 passengers, and a crew of
approximately 900. Which brought her capacity to more than 3,300 plus people. With all those

They probably just did it for all the talk and all the publicity. In the end publicity is for sure what
they got, more than expected. They spent a total of $7,500,000 ($174 million in today s money)
to build the ship that is now at the bottom of the ocean, along with tons of dead souls. Because of
careless mistakes from dumb people. There were too many mistakes made that caused the
disaster. However the Titanic could have been saved had just a few of these events not
happened. If people would listen to warnings and suggestions, than yes this tragedy could have
been avoided. If the caption had been listening to the six warnings that he was given then the
ship have been able to steer away from the iceberg. It doesn t take much effort to steer the ship
away from the iceberg. Someone actually took the time to contact the ship SIX TIMES, the least
you could do is move the ship a little bit to get away from the iceberg. Even if they had slowed
down because they were going too fast, they would have seen the iceberg sooner, and would have
been able to think about what to do. That would have given them more time to avoid

The Trinity And The Kingdom Of God
Preamble
Over the past few decades there has been much written, from both Catholic and Protestant
perspectives, on the doctrine of the Trinity . The consensus among these various writings has been
that, although the doctrine is important and central to the Christian faith and theology, it has been
neglected and made obscure, and has become a complex and theological technical term . This
obscurity renders the doctrine of the Trinity impossible to understand or apply to ordinary life.
Karl Rahner in his observations insists that modern Christians are almost mere monotheists , only
paying lip service to the doctrine of Trinity but lacking in the actual practices . Rahner s
observation has been widely acknowledged with the desire being to make a change .
The need to place the doctrine of the Trinity at the heart of Christianity would be considered the
epistemological and methodological safe ground upon which other doctrines are based. Since
JГєrgen Moltmann s book The Trinity and the Kingdom of Godwas published in 1980, the
propagation of a social understanding of God has gained propulsion. Kilby says that such an
understanding has become the new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Countless Times Di Prima Analysis
The historic beat generation served as a bridge to the hippies in the early 1960 s. They were
radical poets who opposed censorship. They were outspoken and placed a great deal of emphasis
on drugs, alcohol, and sex. They were known for their eccentric writing styles. Much of the poetry
in the mid 50s was in a kind of neoformalist and academic mode that was very tame and highly
intellectual and spoke to a small and elite audience (Interview). However, the beat generationspoke
to the rest of the population. They were elite, for they came from top notch universities,
nonetheless, they wrote about the forbidden topics. No censorship, everything was placed out in
the open for everyone to see. A prolific figurehead arose, Diane di Prima. She... Show more content

Those themes are culminated in chapters five and six from Memoirs of a Beatnik through the
Klebert s. The Klebert s are a dysfunctional family, the father is a bipolar drunk and his wife is
forced to put up with him. She is stuck in a loveless marriage. As for the children, there are two:
Tomi, the eldest sister, and William, oh sweet William (Memoirs of a Beatnik 36). William s
character is ironic; he is the youngest and portrayed as an innocent little boy in the eyes of his
family. However, he is unmasked by Di Prima when she sees him anally rape Tomi. He
defeminized her, taking her against her will. He caused her such agonizing pain and stripped of
her dignity. The day after the ghastly event took place, she was traumatized. Not speaking,
jumping at everything, and not being able to make eye contact with a single person. No one
should live like that, with that insecurity, with the memory, with the social stigma that comes
with it. Even if he has built altars beside [her] bed (An Exercise in Love), his deed will go
unnoticed. However, the altar could be either a blessing or a curse. Altars are made for sacrifices.
It represents all of the sacrifices that she has done to get to where she is at. Di Prima gave up

A Reader Response to The Lie Essay
A Reader Response to The Lie
Pleasing people and the pressure that comes with it. This is a major factor in one s everyday
life. Eli Remenzel, however, has been caught in the middle of just one of the many lies he will
ever tell. It just happens to be that this lie was one that would make a lot of people disappointed.
In the short story The Lie , the parents, and Eli s actions make me angry. However, I can definitely
relate to what Eli is going through.
To start with, I got extremely annoyed with the mother throughout the story. Actually, it wasn t just
the mother, it was both of the parents in general. Sylvia is way to bubbly and fake. And Dr.
Remenzel is extremely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next, I find myself upset that Eli was too much of a coward to confess in the first place. I am angry
that the parents found out from Dr. Warren, not Eli. Since he was the one to lie, he should be the
one to uncover the truth. He got the easy way out. Eli s parents did not know this because Eli had
found the awful notice in the mail and had torn it up. I understand how he must feel, but when this
is revealed I could not believe that he did not tell his parents.
Finally, I can relate to Eli in this story. I know how it feels to have that much pressure put in you.
The entire conversation about how many Remenzels went to Whitehill School furiates me
because it just goes to show that Eli will become a shame. For instance, my older sister and
brother both made Senior Choir their freshman year. I was indirectly told several times that if I
didn t make it my freshmen year as well, then I would become a disgrace to them. Eli s
circumstance is much like mine. If he does not get into the school, he becomes a disgrace to the
Remenzel family. And being the youngest child (in my case) and the only child ( in Eli s case)
makes it so that we pretty much already have a path set out for us to take. The best four years of
your life are just about to begin . When Sylvia says this

coach to win a Super Bowl title. Shortly following his victory in Super Bowl XLI came much
intrigue into his coaching style and personal life. Many wondering how he gained the respect of all

Strength, Tony Dungyspeaks on the importance of faith and family. Emphasizing the power of
prayer, commitment, and patience within faith. As well as the impact of his family on his career,
that ultimately changed the path he had preferred for himself.
In the first chapter Dungy opens by setting a scene of defeat, being fired from the Tampa Bay
Bucaneers. As he took his last stroll throughout the facility he began to wonder what else was in
store for him, and had his career in professional football finally come to an end. After all he was
a man who lived his life based off priorities. And he did make mention in his book, football was
not at the top of his priority list. In this moment, others like it, and the moment succeeding his
Super Bowl victory Dungy was repeatedly faced with the deciphering the next step of his career.

  • 2. The Concept Of Intersectionality, What Can You Share About... Describe the person; based on the concept of intersectionality, what can you share about their identity? For my ethnography paper I interviewed a 30 year old female who emigrated from Mexico to escape the violence of her father. She was born in a rural area of Sinaloa secluded in the mountains where you see cartels go to war just stepping out of your door could get you killed. During the interview you mentioned that when she was growing her father joined the cartel to make sure that no harm came to her or her four sisters. Her mother did everything she could so that they could be educated and would be able to survive in the real world outside of the village. Her mother was the village teacher she taught the boys basic math and the girls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He proposed that they emigrate to the United States for a better life. When they arrived to the U.S. she thought everything would change the abuse would stop and her father would be a new man. Unfortunately it was to much to hope for her father was still an alcoholic and her mother was terrified. Her sisters got married within three months that they arrived to U.S, but not her she wanted to get an education and become a successful lawyer. She decided she would go to school and work towards her dream. Although it was not the easiest thing to do she put herself through law school with money that she had saved from when her father was in the cartel. She was proud of herself she made it out of the cartel and made her dreams come true even with all the obstacles. One thing she did emphasize is that although she is now a successful lawyer her father still does not accept her or her career. 2. How have economic, social, and political realities impacted them? For example, how may they have experienced discrimination, oppression or privilege as a result of membership in their various identity groups? From the interview I realize that this woman s life was filled with economic and political discrimination and oppression. When she was in Mexico she was being forced to marry a drug lord because her family was poor and in her town women needed to be submissive to men. She was being oppressed for being a women where she could only be a housewife and nothing more than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on The Mexican-American War The Mexican American war determined the destiny of the United States of America, it determined whether or not it would become a world power and it established the size of the United States of America. Perhaps the war was inevitable due to the idea of Manifest Destiny Americans thought they had the divine right to extend their territory. The Mexican American War started mainly because of the annexation of the Republic of Texas (established in 1836 after breaking away from Mexico). The United Statesand Mexico still had conflicts on what the borders of Texas was, the United States claimed that the Texas border with Mexico was the Rio Grande, but the Mexicans said that it was the Nueces River, so the land in between were disputed and... During the battle of Resaca de la Palma, both sides engaged in vicious hand to hand fighting, the American Cavalry managed to capture the Mexican Artillery resulting in the Mexicans retreating and rerouting, but because of the terrain, Arista could not rally his troops. The Mexicans had heavy casualties and were forced to abandon their artillery and other supplies. Fort Brown caused more casualties when the Mexicans were crossing the river of Rio Grande. A month later, on June 14th 1846 in California, native English speaking people arrested the Mexican governor and imprisoned him and declared California the California Republic. Sloat claimed Monterey and took control of the California Republic. Laterhe transferred his command to Robert F. Stockton under the orders from congress. At the same time, Kearny with 1700 US troops marched to Sante Fe, New Mexico and took control. Kearny later proceeded with 300 dragoons along the Gila River valley. Later on, he sent back 200 of his 300 dragoons believing the war in California was over. But he clashed with the Mexican militia the settlement of San Pasqual because he mistakenly believed that it would be a miss match in the favor of him. He was defeated ... • 4. Green Mile Portrays Our Execution System Is it fitting that the Green Mile portrays our execution system in such a demeaning way? Some argue this is an accurate portrayal of our, as they would say broken system. The book seems to exaggerate key details to prove how cowardly this system is. As the character start to get to know each other life is suddenly snapped away from them, how you may be asking through the death penalty. This book does accurately portrait how corrupt this system can become. Eduard Delacroix execution had a huge impact on Paul Edgecombes thinking throughout the story. • 5. Wage Led Growth Good For Credit Unions And The Macro Economy Wage led growth good for credit unions and the macro economy 2016 opened with stock markets in turmoil, news on the slowing Chinese economy, and oil prices falling below $30 a barrel. Credit unions have concerns on how these affects their operations. Concerned investors overreacted to the news of a slower Chinese economy, which partly explains the stock market turmoil in the U.S. and around the world. China s economy is not immune from the business cycle. Its economy s growth rate eventually came down from the double digits to the single digits as it undergoes structural changes. China is shifting from an export led to a domestic consumption driven economy. Since 1976, the beginning of China s journey towards integration into the global economy, annual GDP growth averaged 9.5%. Since 2012, growth has been below average falling to 6.8% in the fourth quarter of 2015. While it can be argued that China s economic slowdown has both direct and indirect effects on the U.S. economy through trade and financial flows, a slowing Chinese economy has marginal effects on credit unions. Moreover, it is difficult to aggregate the effects of China s economic slowdown in future U.S. economic growth. Unlike banks, credit unions have limited exposure to the ever present daily gyrations in the stock market. The stock market turmoil in January was not a viable indicator of a U.S. economic slowdown. The stock rout was a result of investors reaction to further declines in oil prices, strength ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Narcissism Of Minor Differences Analysis AHMED A. MOHDHAR STUDENT NUMBER: 213237417 POLS 3200: GLOBAL CONFLICT AND SECURITY (I) FINAL ESSAY: IDENTITY AS A CAUSE FOR THE SOMALI CONFLICTS Identity continues to be a major cause for many wars, both within and without a country. History has proven that conflicts within the borders mostly involve people with very little difference between them. Most of civil wars in nations often start as ethnicity feuds and end up to full scale wars. In the chapter, The Narcissism of Minor Differences, Blok argues that it is often the small differences that lead up to prolonged struggles (p115, 2000). Somalia is an example of a nation where majority of its people share the same cultural and religious background but for a third decade now, members... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There have been several Islamic militant groups in Somalia with the aim of controlling the country. Al Shabaab is the current of those groups with a claim to make Somali an Islamic state, while at the same time getting rid of the inter clan wrangles. However, the group s actions were more of polarizing the communities along religious lines. The Narcissism of minor difference applies here as well; Somalia s population is overwhelmingly Muslim. However, Al shabaab has an extremist view of Islam and intends to make everyone follow the same ideas, those who do not, they believe deserve to die. Solomon argues that Al Shabaab s form of Islam contradicts with most of Somali s cultural beliefs, hence creating a major rift between the militants and the population (p352, 2014). The group use the worst kind of violence against people they believe do not follow the right Islam; from beheading and lynching alleged offenders to bombing local mosques, restaurants, and learning institutions (various). Again, all of their victims inside Somalia are Muslim Somalis who worship the same God as them, but according to them, they worship Him the wrong way. Blok in trying to justify his claim cited a Balkan expert, Hammel on the conflict in the former Yugoslav republics (p126, 2000). He argues that the Serb and Croat peasants do not claim the same ... At the earliest moments in the book, symbols are used to describe how Janie feels and what her emotions are like without addressing them. From the time she experiences what love feels like, Janie tries to find it throughout the books. The pear tree is used throughout the novel, from the time of Janie s time as a teenager till the end of her relationship with Tea Cake. It has numerous appearances that at the end connect and help the reader understand Janie s venture to find love. Hurston uses the pear tree to show the development of Janie s fantasy of love and her search for it in the novel. Janie s first feelings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When meeting Joe Starks and running off to marry him, she has thoughts about how he is going to be the bee for her bloom (32). Janie believes that Joe will be someone who is going to open up the feelings from the experience with the pear tree in her, like how the bees pollinate the flowers of the tree. As the dust baring bee sinks into the sanctum of a bloom , it created a feeling of love and respect for each part (11). Moreover, since bees have a very important relationship with flowers, like the ones on the pear tree, and their process of blooming, Janie feels that the marriage will be strong. Joe, in addition, promises Janie she will be living at a high standard, things Logan was unable to give her. However, she later realizes she has made another mistake with this marriage, leaving her to imagine the shadow of herself going about tending the store and prostrating itself before Jody, while all the time she herself sat under a shady tree with the wind blowing through her hair and her clothes. Somebody near about making summertime out of lonesomeness. (77). The reader can easily see the disconnect between Janie s current life and the life she wants to live. For her dream to be a reality , she needs to escape her real life in order to do so, which she sees as a lonesome task. When comparing it to the interaction between bees and flowers, it is nothing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The size of the firm s market are increased by the international trade which results in lower average costs and increasing in productivity, as it ultimately leads to increase in production. 2.Production efficiencies. With free international trade a lot of jobs will be created in the country, especially in industries of manufacturing and services which can absorb the unemployment that created by restructuring as firms down their workforce. Disadvantages of free international trade. 1.Structural unemployment may occur in the short term with the removal of trade barriers. This will have impact on large numbers of workers, as well as their families and local economies. In growth industries workers often will have difficulties to find employment. 2.Business, consumers and employees are more weak to downturns in the economies of trading partners. For example, recession in the USA leads to decrease in demand for UK s exports, leading to falling in export incomes, lower GDP and incomes, decrease in domestic demand and rising in unemployment. 3.Some of the countries with surplus commodities may dumb them on international markets at a low price. Under such conditions, some of the efficient industries can might find difficulties in competing for long period. Furthermore, countries whose economies are mostly rural will face unfavourable terms of trade. For example, ration of export prices to import prices. Which means that their export income is more smaller than their import payments the make for high value added imports, as it leads to subsequently large foreign debt levels. 1b) Nash equilibrium is a solution theory of a non cooperative game which involves two or more ... Wwan War Research Paper BRISBANE AT WAR 1939 till 1945 The United States of America entered WW2 in 1941, directing their campaign from Australia as it started to perceive threats from Japan (2). By 1942, Brisbane had been set up as the support and training base for the Pacific War (2). Military personal from America started arriving in Brisbane, with the small number of troops requiring accommodation being dealt with by leasing rooms in many of the CBDs hotels, guest houses, or by leasing rooms in private residences (5). This solution was quickly obsolete as troops poured into the city, with approximately 100,000 US troops stationed around the city between 1942 and 1945 (1 3). Since the racecourse was an important recreation facility in Brisbane, the Americans were not allowed to damage the racetracks, therefore the campsite remained a tented city, with only a few temporary pre fabricated buildings (5). Similarly, Victoria Park, another large open field, was offered to the US Army to set up camp. It too was handed over with very strict rules that it had to be given back to council with no damages. The sites close proximity to the CBD and Normanby rail yards made it a prime spot for the troops, and so a camp site was set up with prefabricated huts spread throughout the park. The exhibition grounds, The Rocklea State School and showgrounds, Yeronga Park, the Camp site in Moorooka, and the Chermside Army Camps were all also sites chosen due to their large grounds and access to tramlines. Chermside in particular, had to accommodate 3,500 militia troops, and so they were accommodated on a large paddock that was close to Geebung railway station and also had good road access. The camps had a vast array of tented lines for accommodation, with pre fabricated buildings housing the camps messes and bathing areas (5). Camp sites sometimes also had a certain type of demographic allowed inside. This segregation meant that there were sites specifically for married men, bachelors, African Americans, and Females. • 11. Midwestern Contemporary Art Case Study Essay Midwestern Contemporary Art Case Study The Midwestern Contemporary Art case study presents a relationship between a director; Keith Schmidt, and Peter Smith the chairman. Peter Smith pledged $5 million towards the Midwestern Contemporary Art Museum. Both Peter Smith and Keith Schmidt had a disagreement on the way the funds should be spent on projects around the museum. Smith and Schmidt both seem to have the best interest of the museum at heart. Moreover, these two men took different approaches to helping the museum. Peter Smith proceeded cautiously and the director, Keith Schmidt seemed more ambitious. Keith Schmidt was very confident in his abilities and was puzzled as to why Mr. Smith and the board members were not confident in his abilities and continually questioned his decisions. Peter Smith was fed up with the conduct of Mr. Schmidt, and left the Midwestern Contemporary Art Museum without fulfilling his $5 million pledge. Peggy Fischer was voted the new chairperson and now is faced with the task of straightening out the financial issues that the Midwestern Contemporary Art Museum now faces. • 12. Pavers Essay If we say pavers , and you think of bricks, you are in for a surprise. Pavers are a huge part of our hardscapes, and there are enough different types to warrant a whole page. NATURAL STONE PAVERS: These may be limestone, flagstone, or shale. For more exquisite tastes, consider marble, travertine, or granite. CULTURED STONE PAVERS: If you desire the look of expensive stone but would rather avoid the price tag, or simply don t want to have the weight of the real stone to deal with, consider using cultured pavers. These manufactured replicas are just as durable, lighter, and less expensive. Choices then break into the following groupings. While some of these are in overlapping categories, such as grass pavers or interlocking concrete, that isn t necessarily true for all of them. INTERLOCKING CONCRETE PAVERS: This style is another permeable paver, and they lock together for a good, tight fit. These make beautiful patios, walkways, and driveways. Some are standard shaped, but others are special shapes which interlock in beautiful patterns. The standout, defining feature of these pavers is that they give a solid appearance. The materials, however, allow water to seep through. This advantage is not found with all types of pavers, and sometimes this is the reason to opt for this type of paver. BRICK PAVERS: These kiln fired blocks are one of the most common types of building materials , and there are millions of homes around the country with bricks in the patio or walkway. They are durable. GRASS PAVERS: These pavers are an amazing technological feat. The purpose of these pavers is to manage the rainwater, and allow it to move back into the ground while keeping the ground stable and solid. They are beautiful as well, and can almost be an art form of their own. The geometric shapes can be complex, or quite simple, but all are a beautiful way to enhance your grounds while allowing a green space. These are wonderful for people who may have smaller yards. I m talking about the type of reasons that have nothing to do with what kind of woman she is or what she can do with her life. Every woman knows this well. They are always faced with another person basing their worth on their looks, weight, clothes, hair, and makeup. In short, their worth is based on their looks to many people, and they are taught that from a young age. And, every single person who tells them they are not living up to a standard makes them feel like they are less of a person than they could or should be. Of course, this applies to all women, even the conventionally beautiful women, because every little bit of their outward appearance is attacked and no woman can live up to what society says they should be like in order to be worthy! The Great Migration Of Chinese Immigrants In The 19th Century Similar to all the other countries in the 19th century, early Chinese immigrants were pushed by forces in China and pulled by attractions in the United States. • 15. Colonialism In Australia Introduction Colonialism is defined as the practice of domination, which involves control of one person to another (Plato.stanford.edu, 2018). This usually involves the settlement of citizens from colonial power in the colony. Indigenous Australians have been marginalised by settler colonial Australians, results of this has impacted the way Indigenous Australians are viewed and treated in contemporary society. Indigenous people have struggled to regain their rights such as reclaiming their identities that were misappropriate by the presence of colonials (Maddison, 2013). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Terra Nullius is an example of how settler colonialism tried to take ownership of Australian land. Terra Nullius is a Latin word that means land belonging to no one (Craven and Parbury, 1999). Captain James Cook claimed Australia and declared that Australia seems to have no fixed habitation but instead habitants of the land, move around from place to place like wild beasts in search of food (Craven and Parbury, 1999). The British settlement and takeover of Australia affected, attitudes and treatment of Indigenous. Terra Nullius denied the humanity and existence of Indigenous Australians and can be considered the cause of most racism towards Indigenous Australia. This has led to the White Australia Act, which depended on the non existence of Indigenous and also the racialisation of Indigenous Australians. The Indigenous population in Australia became subject to racialised identity categories based on their degrees of blood, labelling and classifying people as full blood, half cast (Maddison, 2013). This policy led to removing Indigenous children from their families and communities. This policy was enforced with the intention to erase the Indigenous population, by blending them into invisibility within the colonial population (Maddison, 2013). • 16. Watching Tv Makes You Smarter, By Steven Johnson In the article Watching TV Makes You Smarter, Steven Johnson argues why and how television can make you smarter. In another article, Thinking Outside the Idiot Box, Dana Stevens contradicts everything Steven Johnson said in his article about television making people more intelligent. Steven Johnson s argument is that television can actually make you smarter because when you watch a show, you are trying to understand everything that is happening. Today s shows have a lot of action and scenes trying to keep people s attention. Therefore, people carefully tune in to television shows trying to understand everything that goes on during the show. Johnson said, You have to pay attention, make inferences, and track shifting social relationships. For instance, depending on how the characters interact with one another, changes happen as the plot of the story continues on. An example of this is if a character happens to disagree with another character and an enemy of both characters comes into the mix, and those two characters join forces to defeat their enemy. The spontaneous changes like this constantly change the storyline to make it more interesting for the viewer. Johnson mentions the Sleeper Curve and how it is considered to enhance our cognitive faculties, not dumbing them down. The author displayed several examples showing the many plots that happen throughout different shows. The more complex the show, the Sleeper Curve pattern was more detailed. In contrast, ... The textures in this painting are not very deceiving and are spread all across the painting. However the foreground contains a largely more detailed texture much like a matte finish. The foreground contains many pointed rectangular shaped forms, presumably stone and rock formations. There is also some grass growing at the very edge of the piece, closest to the viewer. So in essence, the texture is real because the texture that is displayed on the oil canvass greatly mirror s it s actual feel. The flow of the white brushstrokes in the sky seems to give the painting its feel of movement and the curvy outer lines on the trees emphasize the effect of wind upon the trees. The river contains vertical blue brush strokes greatly reinforcing the movement of water in the painting. Similarly the feeling of depth is achieved by enlarging the objects in the foreground while downsizing the objects in the middle ground. It is also achieved by the direction of which the strokes are implemented. For example, the horizontal texture in the brushstrokes of the Razzack 3 foreground greatly form a contrast between the rock formation and the river and field beneath it(vertical brushstrokes) With this in mind, Van Gogh s use of brush strokes fits in well with his intention of the flow of movement in the picture. If I had created these textures I would have used thinner and more precise brush strokes in order to display the texture I wanted in the finest detail. This way the texture maybe considered as implied and therefore a deceitful simulated texture. The predominant color scheme in this landscape is the use of blue, green and orange. Scientists communicate their new research or studies to their audience by publishing their work in scholarly journals and books. People who are not from the area of expertise or are unfamiliar with the given topic must be able to trust in the credibility of published journal articles. A common process that controls the high quality of scientific publication is called peer review , which ensures that the published work has met the specific standards of a given discipline, a process that usually begins with a professional reviewing of an author s article by a community of qualified experts before publication. The reviewers are usually chosen from relevant academic fields and in some cases, the authors are allowed to suggest names of their preferred peer reviewers (Bornmann 2011). The reviewer is responsible for identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the paper, giving constructive comments along with acceptance revision rejection decisions (Do 2003) to the author. More importantly, the peer review process makes a substantial contribution to determine whether the manuscript contains any fatal flaws (Brand 2012), such as plagiarism, duplicated research or even wrong science. Therefore, peer review plays a critical role in scientific communication by improving the quality of published papers. A survey conducted by Ware showed that a majority of authors (91%) ... European nations started to use the Maritime way, and they took over many places in Asia as their access to an easier trade system. Among these European nations, like what they did to America, their goals and the way they achieved their initiatives in Asiaare different from one another. Portuguese was the first group that explored the way to Asia without going through Muslims. Because of their special geography, Portugal had advanced technology. They had outgun ships and controlled the sea area. They also established bases in key locations of the places they conquered. They created trading post empire by force. There were over 40 independent groups and each of them had a distinct name, dialect and territory. The San Joaquin Valley is bounded by mountains on the east, west and south and to the north flow the Kern and San Joaquin rivers into the ocean. The climate in the valley is hot with dry mild summers, semiarid winters and very minimal precipitation. Originally, the area was rich in a network of rivers, streams, lakes and sloughs fed by waters from Sierra Nevada to the east and it is very productive and rich in resources such as food, wood for construction, firewood and manufacturing tools. After these rivers and streams were diverted for agricultural purposes, the valley dried up and became a vast area of farmland. The foothills elevations are higher and cooler and are occupied by some Yokuts groups. They managed their environment both passively and actively to improve forage for deer, eliminate underbrush growth, make it easy to traverse, and for hunters as well. Passively, they did religious ceremonies to ensure the continuation of favorable conditions. The Yokuts spoke the Penutian language but each mini tribe spoke a different dialect. The values, moras, and habits, all of which are socially constructed, create the reality for the group. We communicate using rhetoric, allowing others to see into those socially constructed ideas or paradigms. Rhetoric is the ability to ascertain and analyze, in any given context, the available means of persuasion. Persuasion is necessary to convince the audience of one s paradigms.
