The Shelton With Sunpots By Alfred Stieglitz
Similarly, City Night (1929) is a forty eight inch tall painting of geometric and sharp edged urban
architecture towering over the glowing moon. The naturally rounded moon is contrasted to the
manmade straight lines of the city. The pedestrian perspective and ominous scale places the audience
between sharp towers. The environment and people that surrounded Georgia O Keeffe stimulates her
to add it in her work. Specifically, Alfred Stieglitz was obviously a great influence in Georgia s life;
being each others muse and benefactor. The 1926 painting The Shelton with Sunspots has
photographic influences. The warm toned painting produces a sun glare that is seen through a camera
lens. The momentary action of catching the sun tiptoeing behind

Jacobsen vs Nike
Individual Assignment ENMN 430
Erkens Gjini
Legal Case Brief
Jacobson vs. Nike Canada Inc.,
Instructor: Connie Carter
November 9th, 2014
Introduction
In the case of Jacobsen vs. Nike Canada Ltd, Mr. Jacobsen an employer of Nike Canada Ltd was
seriously injured in a car accident as a result of alcohol consumption while at work. This paper will
prove that the defendant (Nike Canada Ltd.) was negligent in all the four elements of Negligence and
therefore liable for the injuries. Also it will explain for any legal defense that the employer (Nike
Canada Ltd.) might be able to raise.
Relevant Facts.
Mr. Jacobsen was an employee of Nike Canada Ltd.
The employer, through its representative, supplied the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Was there a breach of standard of care?
Nike is obligated to provide a safe working environment particularly if the job is inherently
dangerous. The employer (Nike) must hire competent representatives. Nike s representative, supplied
the workers with considerable amounts of beer. Providing alcohol while at work jeopardizes work
safety and as a result breaches the duty of care that the employer is obligated to provide.
Causation?
It is very clear that alcohol consumption is the main cause of the accident. Applying the but for test we
can say: but for consuming the alcohol, the collision would not have occurred.
Damages?
Nike failed to exercise reasonable care and as a result Mr. Jacobsen was involved in a single vehicle
accident, which left him with physical damages (quadriplegic).
Counter Argument Assumption of Risk and Contributory Negligence
Nike could use assumption of risk and contributory negligence as part of their defense and show that
the plaintiff s negligence contributed to the accident. Although Nike provided alcohol in the work
place it could argue that Jacobsen was voluntary drinking and was aware of the danger arising from
driving intoxicated. Therefore, he knew the risk and voluntarily assumed the risk by engaging in the
behavior. Also Nike could claim that it does not owe a duty of care to Jacobsen because he was
released of his duties when he was driving.

Desire In Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire
According to Psychologytoday.com, the term Desire derives itself from the Latin word Desiderare,
meaning, To long or wish for . Desires are often regarded as sexual, lustful urges for pleasure and
satisfaction. However, our desires can be a result of personal insecurities that we may feel and in turn,
we desire to feel secure and comfortable at any costs. A Streetcar Named Desire written by Tennessee
Williams is a play that displays the theme of desire in many scenes but not only in a sexual way.
Desire is shown within the play through Stanley s desire for power and control, Blanche s desire for
security and her desire to live in a fantasy world. Stanley portrays the alpha male where he shows
dominance over other characters and takes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially, Stanley believes Blanche has sold her and Stella s family estate without giving Stella her cut
of the profit. Stanley s feels that his power is threatened as he believes he is being cheated by Blanche
and brings up the Napoleonic code which states that a wife and husband s belongings are shared.
Stanley tells Stella, ... and when you re swindled under the Napoleonic code I m swindled too. And I
don t like to be swindled (Williams, 33). Stanley explains to Stella how if she loses money through
Blanche, the code states that he loses the money too due to the sharing of possessions between
spouses. This is where we first see Stanley s desire for power and control as it is seen that he becomes
angry with the fact that Blanche potentially manipulates him. In many scenes of the play, Stanley s
assertiveness and need for control is seen through his actions. In scene eight of the play, Stella is
angered by Stanley s actions at the dinner table and demands that he wash up and help clear the table.
Angered by Stella s demands, Stanley feels that Blanche and Stella see him as weak. His desire to
regain his power and control takes over as he states, ...And I am the king around here, so don t forget
it! (He hurls a

Evaluating Kamil s Instructional Level And Needs
The examiner conducted several assessments in order to determine Kamil s instructional level and
needs in the area of decoding, attitude about reading as well as his ability to comprehend and retell a
text. The information derived from the series of assessments has helped plan for meaningful
instruction, which in the opinion of examiner will meet Kamil s instructional needs and support the
increase of motivation towards reading. Below are the recommendations for each area of the
instructional need.
Attitude about Reading The Motivation to Read Profile survey reveals that Kamil feels good as a
reader and he has a positive attitude towards reading. He also seems to read books which he chooses
by himself and which are mostly comic books. Therefore, it is important to improve Kamil s
motivation and engagement in choosing various genres of literature in order to expose him to the
complex nature of English language. One way to increase Kamil s desire to reach for a wide variety of
books is implementing activity titled Three piece Kits (Edmunds Bauserman, 2006). The teacher
creates a three piece kit containing three different types and/or genres of books in a bag. The kit
should contain a narrative text, a poem and an expository book on a topic Kamil finds interesting. For
example, Kamil s teacher can collect an autobiography/narrative book titled Knucklehead, a collection
of war poems and an informational book about World War I/II. Kamil may find these books interesting

The American Dream In The Era Of The American Dream
The American Dream is the opportunity for success, and the ability to achieve prosperity and a better
life for yourself, and your family. Literature through American history has changed multiple times
each one defining a new standard and covering new ideas. The time period of the Romanticism Era
covered through the 1830s 70s, which brought new values to literature and art, other examples were
transcendentalism and Anti transcendentalism, which were opposites one featuring nature and the
other showed more dark tones. These eras affected the American dream changing the standards of
american literature and bring forth new forms of thinking. The Romanticism Era was during the time
of the industrial revolution and the abolishment movement, during this era literature stressed thought
over reason, using your imagination, and the human experience as a whole. In the poem The Tide
Rises, The Tide Falls by Henry Longfellow he writes The little waves, with their soft, white
hands,/Efface the footprints in the sands,/
And the tide rises the tide falls (8 10). Longfellow depicts an image of waves moving through the sand
as they wash away the footprints in the sands. Longfellow takes time to think about the small things
which was an ideal during that era. Another example is by Longfellow was in his sonnet The Cross of
Snow he phrases that Displays a cross of snow upon its side./ Such is the cross I wear upon my breast/

Modernity and Enlightenment in The Persian Letters by...
Modernity and Enlightenment in The Persian Letters by Charles Montesquieu The Persian Letters
(1721), a fictional piece by Charles Montesquieu, is representative of the Enlightenment, both
supporting and showing conflict with its ideas. The initial perception of European people, in particular
the French, is of a busy people with goals and ambition whose focus is progress; in this way they are
able to gain knowledge a core foundation to Enlightenment. One particular section of the Persian
Letters states that the revolt against the authorities was lead by women, who through reason, saw the
inequity of their treatment and formed a voice. In Montesquieu s story, their decision to change

The thought was that human kind was emerging from an age of darkness into Enlightenment . This
idea was focused around the advancement of scientific knowledge, the development of respect for
humanity and above all, reason. People of this time believed that knowledge had to be earned and that
through experience and observation, guided by reason, progress was inevitable. The idea of
Enlightenment filtered its way into society and was became institutionalized. During this period,
European traditions also came under the microscope and were challenged by many scholars and
philosophers. Economical, social and political attitudes were studied and began to move away from
negativity. People then focused on the positives of life and human nature. The monarch and general
hierarchy of society was questioned and related back to natural intentions for mankind. Frenchmen felt
enslaved by their current authorities and tried to overthrow them through the improvement of literacy,
anonymous tracts and social exploration. As the focus of Enlightenment was on the natural law and
order of the world, religious beliefs and especially Christian theology were a central topic. People of
this age were trying to simplify common day human laws back to nature as it provided the basic
metaphor for how mankind should live. In Letter 24 of Les letters persanes, Rica s perception of

African American Dance In The 1920 s
Have you ever heard of the Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Jitterbug, or Charleston? If so, you already know a
little about dance in the Roaring Twenties, and how big of an impact it made on American culture then
and forevermore. At a time of prosperity and flamboyant wealth, dance made citizens enjoy life again,
engage in one another, develop an eccentric new style that would carry into the rest of the twentieth
century.
After American victory in World War one, people commenced in fun and entertaining happenings

conservative crowd stuck with ballroom dance as the young, eccentric generation began to emerge in

emerged into many different styles of swing dance and carried on for generations to follow. To many,
dance became a competitive sport. Nightclubs and community centers held dance marathons for those
who believed they could hold their own on the dance floor. Dance brought people together in an
unspoken, electrifying way unlike anything else before. As music influenced the dance phenomena,
dance began to influence popular music as well. Numerous songs and genres were developed off of

Overcoming Obstacles In Rocky Balboa s Life
The movie Rocky is based on a boxer who has overcome tough times in his life but works for
everything he has and loves. Sylvester Stallone wrote and produced every Rocky movie and also
played the main character in the films. In almost every Rocky movie, Rocky Balboa faces a big
opponent in the ring. Balboa must train hard and overcome the situation and challenges before the
fight. Balboa then steps in the ring and gives his all for the win. Rocky has inspired me to never give
up and fight for the dreams you set your mind to. Balboa has a different system of training for each
fighter in the movies. In each fight he must study the opponent and attain the skills necessary to
dominate the fight. Throughout training he faces obstacles of doubt and uncertainty on how he could
possibly overcome such an opponent. After being broken down to the feeling he could never train
enough to win this fight he finds his moment that lifts him up and gives him the determination to
overcome. As in life, many of us will face scary challenges that we may doubt and be scared. But, like
balboa we find our path and step up to the plate. We study how to better ourselves and prevail the
challenge we face. Our minds take us to a place that we feel we could never return from, and we must
trust in the process and grasp the moment to punch through it. ... Show more content on

Charles Dickens Great Expectations
Many people say that writing is nothing more than a way of the author to express himself. This is true
in many cases but none as much as in Great Expectations. In many ways the narrator/protagonist Pip
is Charles Dickens in body and mind. While there are many differences between the story and Charles
Dickens life there remains one constant. This constant is the way Pip as the narrator feels, because
these feelings are Dickens s own feelings about the life he lead. Since Great Expectations was written
towards end of Charles Dickens life, he was wiser and able to make out the mistakes and regrets of his
life, and Pip experiences them all. While Great Expectations is seen as a tragic book not many people
really think about where these themes come from, and when the book is read with the knowledge of
Dickens life it truly reveals new meanings.
Charles John Huffam Dickens born February 7th, 1812, was born a poor man. When Charles Dickens
was 12 his father John Dickens was sent to jail because he had too much debt. Since Charles father
was sent to jail Charles had to drop out of school and join a shoe blacking company. When Charles no
longer had to work he felt betrayed by his parents for making him do what was their rightful job,
taking care of the family. He thought that the second he started working for that company his youth
was gone. Once his father had received the family inheritance Charles was able to go to school again

Price Elasticity of Supply
Price Elasticity of Supply * Price Elasticity of Supply: * The degree of price elasticity of supply
depends on how easily and therefore quickly producers can shift resources between alternative uses.
Unlike PED, there is no Total Revenue Test for Price Elasticity of Supply. * Because there is a direct
relationship between Price Total revenue, they always move together.
DETERMINANT OF PRICE ELASTICITY OF SUPPLY: TIME!

Price Elasticity of Demand
The Price Elasticity Coefficient and Formula: * Price elasticity of demand = consumers
responsiveness/sensitivity to a product s price change * A product is elastic if a small change in its
price elicits very large changes in the quantity demanded. * * Movement on the demand curve ex.
products that are not required in people s daily lives are often elastic products. (not necessity but
luxury) * A product is inelastic if a big price change elicits very little influence on the quantity
demanded. * Minimal movement on the demand curve * ex. products that are required in people s
daily lives are often inelastic products. (not luxury but necessity)
It is important to keep in mind that elasticity involves percentage change in price and quantity
demanded; not absolute change.
Midpoint Formula for calculating elasticity: * We use the formula in computing the price elasticity
coefficient. * Ex: A change of $4 $5 along a demand curve is a 25% increase, but the opposite price
change from $5 $4 along the same curve is a 20% decrease. Since elasticity should be the same
whether price rises or falls, the midpoint formula is needed. * This formula simply averages the two
prices and the two quantities as the reference points for computing the percentages. * Ex: the reference

Commentary on Dickens Bleak House Essay
Commentary on Dickens Bleak House
Dickens proves himself to be a true master of description through his novel Bleak House . The book
represents what seems to be the highest point of his intellectual maturity, portraying a dismal city
under attack by dismal weather tied by perfectly dismal laws. Dickens opens chapter one by
introducing literary devices such as personification, phonological features and repetition to his
description, thus setting the scene whilst stressing the mood he is trying to convey.
The usage of the present tense rather than the past removes the linear dictation by time and restricts
knowledge to situation rather than chronology. To refer to the end (or non end) of the fog ... Show

Dickens craft in creating intense and convincing scenes in his novels is reflected in Bleak House
where the initial chapter is located in the financial core of London. Through the application of a
financial lexis, the reader is instinctively drawn towards the main location where Dickens describes
the masses of mud to be accumulating at compound interest almost like money in a bank.
Furthermore, this centres the reader s thoughts on the Chancellor and indirectly focuses on the
unethical, unprincipled ways of today s society.
The fog described in the second paragraph is another focal point in Bleak House , where Dickens
personifies it to an extent that it cruelly pinches the toes . A negative connotation of the fog is
portrayed, where it seems to be almost a wicked character that can be visualised by the reader.
Dickens also personifies gas which seems to know, for it has a haggard and unwilling look . Gas is not
usually associated with anything, but used in this context, Dickens has given even gas an evil role in
the novel, characterizing it to have a sense of authority and human features, allowing the reader the

The Importance Of Paranormal Activity
Did you know that according to Michael Lipka, 18% of Americans say that they have seen a ghost.
Paranormal activity is a highly debatable topic about Paranormal events that happen. It is relevant
because people will know if it s a possibility that their witnessing/experiencing paranormal activity. A
second reason why it s relevant is if people are experiencing this they will know what s happening and
know how to get rid of it/them and stay safe. There are lots of controversy and theories about
paranormal activity for example saying it s your brain and it s not real. Paranormal activity is real.
Three claims on why paranormal activity is real are stories, movies/documentaries, and scientific
evidence. Stories prove that paranormal activity is real. Stories show that it s happened before to
people. Paranormal activity can happen to anyone and happen anywhere. A family friend said, Our
younger boy Connor came down and asked me Mom, who s the old man upstairs with a blanket

In the nineteenth century, women were supposed to stay in the home. They were not to be outside
running wild (Radek stereotype). Jo shows more of a masculine personality and one way it is
displayed is through her bravery. Jo seeks adventures especially when she goes outside and plays
Laurie and avoids her domestic responsibilities, which was considered not common in the nineteenth
century. One example of Jo showing her bravery is when Laurie s, Jo s best friend, asks Jo to come
over to his house, to see his library full of books. Laurie claims, that Jo will not come because being a
girl, she would be too afraid to go alone. One of Jo s sisters Meg, tells to Jo that she can not run over
to his house uninvited, walk in and have tea, and she should not be the one to chase after boys (33). In
both situations Jo answers, I am not afraid of anything (31). Jo would always be found outside the
house or alone with Laurie. She is never in the house, cooking, cleaning or helping her mother. This
challenges the stereotypes but also shows how brave Jo is. Jo does not like being in the house; she
would rather do what a nineteenth century man would prefer. Another example of how Jo shows
bravery is when she travels to New York by herself. Jo has lot fortitude and does not have much fear
when she travels because see seeks adventure! This is not typical of women in the nineteenth century.

Gm Crops And Its Effects On Our Health
GM Crops Essay
GM Crops are you unknowingly consuming these mutated fruit and vegetables in your diet? And what
affect do these mutations have on our health; do they have any effect on our health? GM crops are
plants whose genetic structure has been transmogrified and improved by the act of biological genetic
engineering. Genetically modifying crops involves extracting a gene from one organism and inserting
it into another. The purpose of the genetic engineering is to either improve the structure of the
organism or to improve their yields. GM has many advantageous effects which include: producing
more pest resistant crops, increasing the production yield of the crops and many people also argue that
GM crops have a superior flavour and texture than normal crops. Conversely there are numerous
disadvantages to the use of GM crops which include: an increased risk of allergic reactions since the
extracted genes may be extracted from a product which certain people are allergic to, and this may not
be made clear on the packaging or the consumers may lack the appropriate knowledge. Yet another
vitally important positive is that GM Crops have the ability to reduce the factors of starvation and
increase our diets nutritional value.
The Scottish government have recently introduced a formal ban on the genetic modification of crops
in Britain. But why? What conceivable negativity could be brought about by the introduction of GM
crops?

Essay on The Enduring Loyalty, Love, and Compassion of...
Imagine leaving your wealth, home, family, and even country behind for twenty years. While away,
people will inevitably attempt to steal your possessions, seduce your spouse, and act as though you
will never return. Most likely, more people will try to harm your estate than those who will continue
working and behaving in an honest manner. This notion holds true in Homer s epic poem, The
Odyssey. While Odysseus wages war and struggles to return to Ithaka , a multitude of suitors court his
wife and live at the cost of his possessions. On the other hand, a few people like Eumaios remain
steadfast to the truth and work to maintain Odysseus estate and possessions. Eumaios, Odysseus

Eumaios feels the pain and hardship that Laërtês endures, as he feels that the distressed Laërtês needs
instantaneous notice of his grandson s return.
In addition to being empathetic throughout the poem, Eumaios loves those who need it most:
Odysseus, Telémakhos, and the swine entrusted to him. When everyone else had finished dinner and
went to bed for the evening, Eumaios took a sharpened lance, and went to rest / under a hollow rock
where swine were sleeping (14.629 30). Homer uses this as an opportunity to show that Eumaios truly

vulnerable swine. Later, when Telémakhos returns from searching for Odysseus, it is remarked that
Eumaios kissed the young man s head, his shining eyes / and both hands, while his own tears brimmed

Catholic Church Art Analysis
The project I decided to work one was to go to a church different from my own Baptist religious
tradition and decided to attend a Catholic church. I decided to go to a Catholic Church because both
my father and husband are Catholic, and I have not been to Sunday Mass since I was a child and don t
have much recollection of it. I wanted to have that experience now as an adult.
I attended Sunday Mass at Mission San Jose. I wanted to go to a place that was rich with History. I
enjoyed the art displayed inside and outside of Mission San Jose. I was in awe with the beautiful
structures, the Mission/Church was aged beautifully. Throughout the inside walls of Mission San Jose
there was candelabras, and instead of the traditional stained windows you see in a Catholic church,
this one was instead displayed by engraved plaques. The Main wall was displayed by beautiful Saints,
angels, and the crucifixion of Jesus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our churches in Baptist are more simple buildings, plain white (representing purity) with very little art
displayed. Some may have the cross but without the crucifixion of Jesus. The art you may possibly see
are stained glass windows but doesn t have any images of Jesus or God, the images displayed will be
praying hands, a white dove, bible or a beaming light. Our Churches also have no candles, altars,
relics, or Saints displayed, in our faith we don t idolize statues or Saints but our God the creator.
Catholic churches have confession booths and repetitive prayers to repent from all sins. We pray to
repent from our sins, but our prayers don t consist of any Hail Marie s and we don t have confession

A Report On Worldwide Monetary Forms Like Clockwork
The Department of Treasury requires Congress to to deliver this report on worldwide monetary forms
like clockwork. The report has sort of developed into an approach to weight different nations on their
monetary standards. Timothy Geithner, the Treasury Secretary is taking the route of the two track
approach. As said, he s not marking China as the controller of cash. Be that as it may, he likewise says
the Treasury will consistently screen China s cash/Yuan. Currently China has released the yuan s peg
to the dollar value. Be that as it may, the yuan has risen not exactly a percent against the dollar from
that point forward. The yuan exchanges China, where it holds fast to the one percent band from the
settled value each day. Be that as it may, it additionally exchanges outside of China, where the
business sector does not need to hold fast to the one percent band (consider it like a seaward market
for yuan). Given that throughout the previous halt, for a while the estimation of the yuan has been
relentlessly pushed higher versus the dollar by the government of the Chinese, the Chinese created a
convey exchange. Speculators can obtain dollars at zero percent, and after it levered up and purchased
yuan, for that it s the most appreciated part. It s not divergent from what we saw that was about to
occur in the development of the markets. (www.marketplace.org) The business procedures of Walmart

Lockheed Martin Case 2011
Executive Summary
Lockheed Martin is a leading security and defense company based in Bethesda, MD with operations
that span the globe. Lockheed Martin experienced a positive turnaround under new CEO Robert
Stevens leadership, and is now entrenched as a leading competitor in the Aerospace and Defense (A
amp;D) industry. They maintain an extensive business portfolio and continue to increase shareholder
value. However, recent issues with contract mismanagement and cost overruns involving the
government F 35 program leave a negative outlook on their operations. They also face increasing
pressure to acquire and retain key employees from a diminishing talent pool. Government budget cuts

Efficient buildings, where companies such as Lockheed Martin have converted their buildings to be
efficient in saving energy, which is a way to cut costs in a declining economic environment,
emphasize stewardship of the environment. Europe has enacted a Clean Sky initiative, which is a large
research project with the goal of providing a step in environmentally friendly air transport technology.
Technology is an important facet in the industry, and therefore has a high emphasis. Cutting edge
technology has driven rising costs for consumers. This also causes R amp;D spending to be fairly
high. Because of this, Defense companies often seek to find commercial use for new technology.
Forecasted Defense trends indicate industry adjustment to reduced government defense spending.
Because companies have overlooked operational efficiency and relied heavily on government
spending, efficiency will now become a focus with decreased spending. Companies will also attempt
to explore new markets, such as Lockheed Martin s secured contract with Israel for future purchase of
F 35 s, as well as entering into related markets to diversify revenues. Increased competition is
expected due to consolidations among smaller companies in an effort to become more competitive

Structural Vulnerabilities And Link Privacy
Structural vulnerabilities and Link Privacy in Social Networks
Introduction/Background:
In social networks, a link represents a relationship between two nodes in the network. These links can
represent email conversations, web surfing, co purchases of two or more products (e.g. Amazon),
friendships (e.g. Facebook), followers (e.g. Twitter), etc. Often times these relationships are sensitive
and/or confidential in nature [ying wu] and the users are operating under the assumption that their
private relationships will not be disclosed.
In recent years the amount of data accumulated from social networks has become very large, and there
is a lot of valuable information to gain from analyzing and applying data mining to social network
data. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Neighborhood Randomization Using Sub Graph Perturbation
In order for people to mine valuable data from social network graphs they must first be given
information about the network. Even without explicit information about the nodes, an attacker may
use structural information about the nodes and graph itself (e.g. node degree) to identify who the
individuals are that the nodes represent. Simple graph wise randomization addresses this problem by
deleting k randomly chosen edges and replacing them with k randomly chosen edges, however a
problem arises since data miners depend on these structural attributes to properly analyze the social
network. Fard and Wang [fard wang] propose a structure aware algorithm for the randomization of
social network edges as well as a formal definition of link privacy with respect to a probabilistic
threshold. Their motivation is to help conceal sensitive links by using randomization techniques,
without disturbing the actual structure of the graph, which is achieved through local neighborhood
perturbation. This is needed so that graphs can be analyzed without the link structure being left
entirely vulnerable to attackers. The goal of their algorithm is to make it so that an adversary cannot
know if a link in the original graph exists from having a link in the new graph.

The Use of Birth Control to Prevent Pregnancy Essay
The Use of Birth Control to Prevent Pregnancy
The dilemma of unwanted pregnancy has faced the human species as far back in history as the day
man found out that there was a connection between sexual intercourse and conceiving a baby. To solve
it, many methods were used some disagreeable, some dangerous and many ineffective. Fortunately,
today for the first time in history, a choice of contraceptives is available that is, safe, convenient, and
effective. Much difference of opinion about the moral correctness of sex without the possibility of
becoming pregnant, surrounds this subject. Since the Middle Ages, much of religious thinking has
held that the only proper reason for sexual intercourse was procreation. Thus, anything that ... Show

She never gave up because she always had the image of a young woman dying because of a criminally
induced abortion in the back of her mind. She believed that birth control was the best way to sustain
from unwanted pregnancies and was determined to prove it to the world. Shortly after, in 1932,
Hamilton Birth Control Clinic was opened and directed by Elizabeth Bagshaw. Despite opposition
from fellow physicians and the clergy, Elizabeth Bagshaw accepted the position and spent the next
thirty years of her life working with dedicated volunteers to provide women with inexpensive and
reliable contraceptives. I too am a firm believer in birth control. I believe that every child born should
be a child who will feel wanted and cared for. Birth control can free women from terminating
pregnancies and therefore greatly reduce the number of abortions each year. Birth control can improve
marital relations, maternal and child health and family welfare. Not everyone today is capable of
supporting three or four children. Therefore why not limit the number of children you have and better
support your family? There is also the factor of overpopulation. Many who favor birth control feel that
limiting family size is necessary for a better life. Increases in the world population are beginning to

The Paint-Personal Narrative
When I was about 10 years old, I like to play many sports, ranging from basketball to soccer. What I
didn t know was that I was going to start participating in another sport .
In January of 2013, my dad said that we were going to get some paint. Inside the hot, non air
conditioned Prius, with my brother Ryan and my dad, we finally stopped half an hour later at a Bass
Pro Shop in Victoria Gardens. My dad told us that we were going to take a break and just to sit down
near the entrance of the store. As a man and a kid slowly approached us, I suddenly realized that we
were waiting for two of our family s friends. (I ll just say that the man s name is John and the kids
name is Jason). We arrived at a place called K1 speedway. I quizzically glanced at my brother but he
shrugged unknowingly. I asked my dad a question, Is this where we re buying the paint? He nervously

I m just going to zoom around the racetrack and rarely brake. I was waiting inside the kart when a
worker said go! I zoomed around the race track, barely noticing the karts that were slowly cruising. I
received weird faces each time I overlapped a racer. I quickly glanced at the leaderboard, and I was
the fastest racer of the month (for ages 12 16)!
My brother was a bit grumpy after my win, but we drove to Sonic and enjoyed Jolly Rancher drinks.

The Land Registration Act 1925
The statement above will be thoroughly considered and discussed .To commence with it needs to be
established what a register is.
The Land Registration Act 1925 first presented the structure of registered land, but later it was
cancelled out by Land Registration Act 2002 due to reviews and room for reforms. There are three
main sections: property register, proprietorship register and charges register.
Firstly Property register, this describes the property (the nature), the address and plans which are in
correspondence with the actual boundaries of the specific properties and also third party rights and
rights which benefit the property.
Furthermore there is Proprietorship register, this consists of the class of title and any entries which
affect the owner s right of disposal such as restrictions which could hinder how the property is dealt
with. Restrictions will also be included in the Proprietorship Register found under S40 Land
Registration Act 2002 , this results in the restriction limiting how the registered proprietorship can
handle the land. It requires that a certain procedure is followed when disposing of the land
.Furthermore this coincides with overreaching, this is where the purchaser of trust land can take the
land free from the beneficial interest under that trust
Lastly Charges register, which contains charges, in addition to other charges that have impact on the
land, in correspondence with the land any covenants and third party rights such as

Abraham Maslow: A Humanistic Phenomenon
Abstract Abraham Maslow is considered to be the father of Humanistic Psychology. Though growing
up in a cruel household, he accomplished much in his lifetime. An avid advocate of Human
Motivation , Maslow developed many theories corresponding to the subject. This article goes into
detail on his theory of Hierarchy of Needs and Self Actualization. Maslow put forth the notion of a 5
level pyramid of needs. Psychological, Safety and Security, Love and Belonging, and Esteem were
considered essential basic needs. These must be fulfilled before a person can reach the highest level of
Self Actualization. Maslow studied a range of historical and public figures to come to a ... Show more

Brooklyn Law School (BLS) to begin law studies. Abraham endured nightly law classes, while still
attending day classes at CCNY. After two months, he dropped out, realizing that law was of no interest
to him. In 1927, Maslow left CCNY for Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Due to cheaper
tuition, he applied to the College of Agriculture at Cornell. He majored once again in social sciences
to fulfill his dream. Maslow was disheartened by an Introductory Psychology course that he took,
instructed by Edward B. Titchner (Emrich, n.d.). He found Titchner s teaching in of Structuralism and
his theory of Scientific Introspection dull. At the end of the semester, Maslow left Cornell to return to
New York and attend CCNY once again. In 1927, Maslow was again studying Humanities and Social

Women s Role In Greek Society
From hunter gathering societies to the Roman Empire, women all over the world have had varying
status. This status has fluctuated based on the culture of each society. Culture itself is influenced by
time, location, need and beliefs of the people. The great contrasts of women s status can be seen with
hunter gatherers, Greek civilizations, and Roman civilizations. It is truly astounding to see how the
same group of people are generally degraded and treated so differently throughout history. For a long
time prior to the first cities and agriculture, humans survived as hunters and gatherers. In this lifestyle,
men and women were both equally valued. Men would hunt while women gathered and raised
children, leading specialists to believe women were even more voluble than men. As means of
production began to evolve, so did the work and equality between men and women. Men and women
took on more laborious jobs, and as the difference between male and female jobs became more
concrete and clear. Men also began to take on a dominant role ... Show more content on

Persuasive Essay On Fur Slaughtering
According to Born Free USA, more than fifty million animals a year are violently killed and used for
fashion. What do you think of when you think of an animal being used for fashion ? Animals of all
sorts are being raised to where they are big enough to be killed and used for their fur and their skin to
make all kinds of clothing including coats, socks and pants. At least fifty million animals are used for
that EVERY YEAR. Fifty million doesn t seem like a significant amount, considering how many
animals there are in the world. That is about 136,000 animals being slaughtered every day for their
skin. Consider all types of animals, not just house pets; bears, tigers, deer, birds and water animals.
Think about all the animals that get put down and day or when people hunt how many animals are
killed or animals accidentally hit by a car a year. Add that number to the number of animals
slaughtered a year for their skin. That is a LARGE number, larger than the number of people
purposely killed a year. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Figley s Model Of The Compassion Fatigue Process
Lipchick (2002), describes the therapist client relationship as a structure coupling between to unique
human beings in complementary roles. In a healthcare context, Sabo (2006) states that empathy and
compassion are critical aspects involved in understanding the clients needs to create a therapeutic
relationship between client and nurse. The integration of the concepts of compassion and empathy
could become a negative facilitator of the cost of caring for others later described as Compassion
Fatigue (CF) (Figley, 1995). The definition is contested, though; the first definition was proposed by
Joinson (1992) characterising CF as a unique form of burnout that nurses experience because of
exhaustion. Coetzee and Klopper (2010) explain that CF is a concept established in relation to the
burnout of nurses . Their duty to tend to sick and traumatised patients exposes them to pain and
suffering daily, and thus many lose their ability to nurture. Supported by Pack and Roberts (2012), CF
occurs when individuals are unable to continue bearing the trauma of others, consequently leading to a
significant reduction in wellbeing and work capacity. Whilst CF has regularly been observed in a
healthcare environment, no such research has been conducted in a sport and exercise context.
Figley s (2002) model of the Compassion Fatigue Process enables a further understanding of the
factors contributing to CF and some key terms surrounding it. The model is based on assumptions that

When Hannibal left Italy in 203 BC he had filled Italy…with monuments of his tremendous
campaigns [1]. In this essay I will consider Hannibal s legacy and what aspects of his personality
created these monuments. After research,[2] I have set out some criteria of a great general and in this
essay I will attempt to establish to what extent Hannibal fulfils these criteria. According to Lazenby, to
do what Hannibal did required great strategic skill, tactical ingenuity and sheer force of personality

to attack Saguntum, therefore provoking Rome to declare war on Carthage (and not on Hannibal).

Therapeutic Recreational Types Of Therapeutic Recreation
What does therapeutic recreation mean to me? Therapeutic recreation is a process that utilizes
recreation and education as a way to enable a being with any type of disorder, mentally, physically or
emotionally. My personal belief is that recreation can be used to help anyone become happier or more
comfortable than they already are. To put it simply, I believe that therapeutic recreation is a very
organized way to help people, no matter the circumstance, without prejudices, or discrimination, and
judgments. It doesn t matter whether the person was born with a disability, physically or mentally, or
even if they were born with no disability and are considered to be clinically healthy , I believe as a TR
representative it is our job to improve the lives of others in any way we possibly can because if
someone isn t as happy as they can be we theoretically can at least try to help. Although I have yet to
work in a therapeutic recreational type environment, I feel that I have learned many helpful skills that
translate from other fields that I can apply to the field of TR. This past summer I worked two jobs in
two completely different fields from each other and therapeutic recreation. Working at a bar taught me
that you need to be patient and accommodating to peoples needs and wants. I also learned how big of
an impact you could make on someone s day just by doing the simplest tasks. This is especially
important in TR because our goal fully revolves around improving health and

or a solution to poverty on reservations? Explain and ground your answer using statistical data or

Justice has no vehicle, so he would rather not work and collect money (The Economist, 2015). This is

The Media s Influence On The Public s Perceptions Of...
With continued saturation of media channels in today s world, it s no wonder that our personal ideals
are often affected by the portrayals depicted on television. In this paper I will examine how the media,
in particular reality television (RTV), often provides a simplistic and stereotypical ideal of wealth and
well being. I intend to demonstrate that the political ideologies reinforced by the images created in
reality TV can be damaging and misleading to the public perception, often running counter to the
statistical reality. Through a review of specific programs and research, I will establish that these shows
are subconsciously influencing the public s perceptions of wealth and happiness.

By looking at a number of examples including the reality TV shows The Shahs of Sunset and Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition, I seek to uncover what ideologies and issues are really at play behind the
slick television productions. Since the proliferation of cable television and subsequent technological
advances including colour, satellite, digital, Smart, and now even 3D TV, television has become a
dominant force in our lifestyles. It has physically entrenched itself in our homes and psychologically
engrained itself in our minds. As such, television has become an important tool for integrating
individuals into the social order, celebrating dominate values, and offering models of thought and
behaviour for imitations (Winslow p. 268). Television is the medium or tool, but the programming or

the ironically named reality TV, which actually bears little resemble to real life. These reality shows
pretend to depict the everyday life of ordinary people, but are often carefully scripted and manipulated
versions of the truth, serving to reinforce social stereotypes and political ideologies. Reality television

  • 2. The Shelton With Sunpots By Alfred Stieglitz Similarly, City Night (1929) is a forty eight inch tall painting of geometric and sharp edged urban architecture towering over the glowing moon. The naturally rounded moon is contrasted to the manmade straight lines of the city. The pedestrian perspective and ominous scale places the audience between sharp towers. The environment and people that surrounded Georgia O Keeffe stimulates her to add it in her work. Specifically, Alfred Stieglitz was obviously a great influence in Georgia s life; being each others muse and benefactor. The 1926 painting The Shelton with Sunspots has photographic influences. The warm toned painting produces a sun glare that is seen through a camera lens. The momentary action of catching the sun tiptoeing behind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nike is obligated to provide a safe working environment particularly if the job is inherently dangerous. The employer (Nike) must hire competent representatives. It is very clear that alcohol consumption is the main cause of the accident. Applying the but for test we can say: but for consuming the alcohol, the collision would not have occurred. Damages? Nike failed to exercise reasonable care and as a result Mr. Jacobsen was involved in a single vehicle accident, which left him with physical damages (quadriplegic). A Streetcar Named Desire written by Tennessee Williams is a play that displays the theme of desire in many scenes but not only in a sexual way. Stanley s feels that his power is threatened as he believes he is being cheated by Blanche and brings up the Napoleonic code which states that a wife and husband s belongings are shared. Stanley tells Stella, ... and when you re swindled under the Napoleonic code I m swindled too. And I don t like to be swindled (Williams, 33). Stanley explains to Stella how if she loses money through Blanche, the code states that he loses the money too due to the sharing of possessions between spouses. This is where we first see Stanley s desire for power and control as it is seen that he becomes angry with the fact that Blanche potentially manipulates him. In many scenes of the play, Stanley s assertiveness and need for control is seen through his actions. In scene eight of the play, Stella is angered by Stanley s actions at the dinner table and demands that he wash up and help clear the table. Angered by Stella s demands, Stanley feels that Blanche and Stella see him as weak. His desire to regain his power and control takes over as he states, ...And I am the king around here, so don t forget it! (He hurls a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Charles Dickens Great Expectations Many people say that writing is nothing more than a way of the author to express himself. This is true in many cases but none as much as in Great Expectations. In many ways the narrator/protagonist Pip is Charles Dickens in body and mind. While there are many differences between the story and Charles Dickens life there remains one constant. This constant is the way Pip as the narrator feels, because these feelings are Dickens s own feelings about the life he lead. Since Great Expectations was written towards end of Charles Dickens life, he was wiser and able to make out the mistakes and regrets of his life, and Pip experiences them all. While Great Expectations is seen as a tragic book not many people really think about where these themes come from, and when the book is read with the knowledge of Dickens life it truly reveals new meanings. Charles John Huffam Dickens born February 7th, 1812, was born a poor man. When Charles Dickens was 12 his father John Dickens was sent to jail because he had too much debt. The book represents what seems to be the highest point of his intellectual maturity, portraying a dismal city under attack by dismal weather tied by perfectly dismal laws. Dickens opens chapter one by introducing literary devices such as personification, phonological features and repetition to his description, thus setting the scene whilst stressing the mood he is trying to convey. The usage of the present tense rather than the past removes the linear dictation by time and restricts knowledge to situation rather than chronology. To refer to the end (or non end) of the fog ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dickens craft in creating intense and convincing scenes in his novels is reflected in Bleak House where the initial chapter is located in the financial core of London. Through the application of a financial lexis, the reader is instinctively drawn towards the main location where Dickens describes the masses of mud to be accumulating at compound interest almost like money in a bank. Furthermore, this centres the reader s thoughts on the Chancellor and indirectly focuses on the unethical, unprincipled ways of today s society. The fog described in the second paragraph is another focal point in Bleak House , where Dickens personifies it to an extent that it cruelly pinches the toes . A negative connotation of the fog is portrayed, where it seems to be almost a wicked character that can be visualised by the reader. Dickens also personifies gas which seems to know, for it has a haggard and unwilling look . Gas is not usually associated with anything, but used in this context, Dickens has given even gas an evil role in the novel, characterizing it to have a sense of authority and human features, allowing the reader the illustrate a wider ... Jo seeks adventures especially when she goes outside and plays Laurie and avoids her domestic responsibilities, which was considered not common in the nineteenth century. One example of Jo showing her bravery is when Laurie s, Jo s best friend, asks Jo to come over to his house, to see his library full of books. Laurie claims, that Jo will not come because being a girl, she would be too afraid to go alone. One of Jo s sisters Meg, tells to Jo that she can not run over to his house uninvited, walk in and have tea, and she should not be the one to chase after boys (33). In both situations Jo answers, I am not afraid of anything (31). Jo would always be found outside the house or alone with Laurie. She is never in the house, cooking, cleaning or helping her mother. This challenges the stereotypes but also shows how brave Jo is. Jo does not like being in the house; she would rather do what a nineteenth century man would prefer. Another example of how Jo shows bravery is when she travels to New York by herself. Jo has lot fortitude and does not have much fear when she travels because see seeks adventure! This is not typical of women in the nineteenth century. Women had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Gm Crops And Its Effects On Our Health GM Crops Essay GM Crops are you unknowingly consuming these mutated fruit and vegetables in your diet? And what affect do these mutations have on our health; do they have any effect on our health? GM crops are plants whose genetic structure has been transmogrified and improved by the act of biological genetic engineering. Genetically modifying crops involves extracting a gene from one organism and inserting it into another. The purpose of the genetic engineering is to either improve the structure of the organism or to improve their yields. GM has many advantageous effects which include: producing more pest resistant crops, increasing the production yield of the crops and many people also argue that GM crops have a superior flavour and texture than normal crops. Conversely there are numerous disadvantages to the use of GM crops which include: an increased risk of allergic reactions since the extracted genes may be extracted from a product which certain people are allergic to, and this may not be made clear on the packaging or the consumers may lack the appropriate knowledge. Yet another vitally important positive is that GM Crops have the ability to reduce the factors of starvation and increase our diets nutritional value. The Scottish government have recently introduced a formal ban on the genetic modification of crops in Britain. But why? What conceivable negativity could be brought about by the introduction of GM crops? A powerful group of scientists and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While away, people will inevitably attempt to steal your possessions, seduce your spouse, and act as though you will never return. Most likely, more people will try to harm your estate than those who will continue working and behaving in an honest manner. This notion holds true in Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey. While Odysseus wages war and struggles to return to Ithaka , a multitude of suitors court his wife and live at the cost of his possessions. These links can represent email conversations, web surfing, co purchases of two or more products (e.g. Amazon), friendships (e.g. Facebook), followers (e.g. Twitter), etc. Often times these relationships are sensitive and/or confidential in nature [ying wu] and the users are operating under the assumption that their private relationships will not be disclosed. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Results: Neighborhood Randomization Using Sub Graph Perturbation In order for people to mine valuable data from social network graphs they must first be given information about the network. Even without explicit information about the nodes, an attacker may use structural information about the nodes and graph itself (e.g. node degree) to identify who the individuals are that the nodes represent. Simple graph wise randomization addresses this problem by deleting k randomly chosen edges and replacing them with k randomly chosen edges, however a problem arises since data miners depend on these structural attributes to properly analyze the social network. Fard and Wang [fard wang] propose a structure aware algorithm for the randomization of social network edges as well as a formal definition of link privacy with respect to a probabilistic threshold. Their motivation is to help conceal sensitive links by using randomization techniques, without disturbing the actual structure of the graph, which is achieved through local neighborhood perturbation. This is needed so that graphs can be analyzed without the link structure being left entirely vulnerable to attackers. The goal of their algorithm is to make it so that an adversary cannot know if a link in the original graph exists from having a link in the new graph. Problem definition: Given a ... In a healthcare context, Sabo (2006) states that empathy and compassion are critical aspects involved in understanding the clients needs to create a therapeutic relationship between client and nurse. The integration of the concepts of compassion and empathy could become a negative facilitator of the cost of caring for others later described as Compassion Fatigue (CF) (Figley, 1995). The definition is contested, though; the first definition was proposed by Joinson (1992) characterising CF as a unique form of burnout that nurses experience because of exhaustion. Coetzee and Klopper (2010) explain that CF is a concept established in relation to the burnout of nurses . Their duty to tend to sick and traumatised patients exposes them to pain and suffering daily, and thus many lose their ability to nurture. Supported by Pack and Roberts (2012), CF occurs when individuals are unable to continue bearing the trauma of others, consequently leading to a significant reduction in wellbeing and work capacity. Whilst CF has regularly been observed in a healthcare environment, no such research has been conducted in a sport and exercise context. Therapeutic recreation is a process that utilizes recreation and education as a way to enable a being with any type of disorder, mentally, physically or emotionally. My personal belief is that recreation can be used to help anyone become happier or more comfortable than they already are. To put it simply, I believe that therapeutic recreation is a very organized way to help people, no matter the circumstance, without prejudices, or discrimination, and judgments. It doesn t matter whether the person was born with a disability, physically or mentally, or even if they were born with no disability and are considered to be clinically healthy , I believe as a TR representative it is our job to improve the lives of others in any way we possibly can because if someone isn t as happy as they can be we theoretically can at least try to help. Although I have yet to work in a therapeutic recreational type environment, I feel that I have learned many helpful skills that translate from other fields that I can apply to the field of TR. This past summer I worked two jobs in two completely different fields from each other and therapeutic recreation. Working at a bar taught me that you need to be patient and accommodating to peoples needs and wants. I also learned how big of an impact you could make on someone s day just by doing the simplest tasks. • 38. Native American Casino Gambling Essay What role does casino gambling play in Native American society? Is this an example of assimilation or a solution to poverty on reservations? Explain and ground your answer using statistical data or published research. Gaming revenues for Native Americans have greatly increased since the passage of the Gaming Regulatory Act in 1988 (Anderson, 2013). The rise has been especially steady over the last 10 years, even with the bad economy, as the revenue went from $22.6 billion in 2005 to $28.5 in 2014 (NIGC, 2015). Mike Justice, a member of the Siletz tribe in Oregon, is jobless and lives with his recovering addict wife and son (The Economist, 2015). He could work at the tribe s casino, but instead collects welfare payments and $1,200 yearly from the casino per capita payments (The Economist, 2015). The minimum wage he would make at the casino would barely pay for the transportation costs, since Justice has no vehicle, so he would rather not work and collect money (The Economist, 2015). This is a growing problem and a newer study in the American Indian Law Journal of 24 tribes in the Pacific North West shows that growing casino revenues can actually make poverty worse as poverty rose from 25% to 29% from 2000 to 2010(The Economist, 2015). Of the 17 tribes in the study that paid directly to tribe members, poverty rose in ten of them (The Economist, 2015). Why the rise in poverty? One reason is the way the money is distributed. The more an individual is paid, the more he has the desire not to work (The Economist, 2015). Obesity, poor health, drug abuse, and alcoholism are already problems and without health insurance, from not working, these problems get much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this paper I will examine how the media, in particular reality television (RTV), often provides a simplistic and stereotypical ideal of wealth and well being. I intend to demonstrate that the political ideologies reinforced by the images created in reality TV can be damaging and misleading to the public perception, often running counter to the statistical reality. Through a review of specific programs and research, I will establish that these shows are subconsciously influencing the public s perceptions of wealth and happiness. In North America almost every household (99%) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By looking at a number of examples including the reality TV shows The Shahs of Sunset and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, I seek to uncover what ideologies and issues are really at play behind the slick television productions. Since the proliferation of cable television and subsequent technological advances including colour, satellite, digital, Smart, and now even 3D TV, television has become a dominant force in our lifestyles. It has physically entrenched itself in our homes and psychologically engrained itself in our minds. As such, television has become an important tool for integrating individuals into the social order, celebrating dominate values, and offering models of thought and behaviour for imitations (Winslow p. 268). Television is the medium or tool, but the programming or shows represents the pervasive messaging. The latest genre of TV shows to rise to popularity is that of the ironically named reality TV, which actually bears little resemble to real life. These reality shows pretend to depict the everyday life of ordinary people, but are often carefully scripted and manipulated versions of the truth, serving to reinforce social stereotypes and political ideologies. Reality television (RTV) is a specific culmination of this long history, taking the powers of transformation to a new level by embedding them in everyday life (Winslow 268). This can become a dangerous tool for highlighting and glamorizing certain aspects of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
