Potential Therapeutic Treatment Options For Psychiatric...
Since the early 1990 s discovery of the naturally occurring endocannabinnoid receptors CB1 and CB2
in the human brain, preclinical and clinical trials focusing on plant derived cannabinnoids have begun
to regain momentum. This paper focuses on the cannabinnoids Cannabidiol (CBD) and Delta 9
Tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9 THC) as potential therapeutic treatment options for psychiatric disorders. It
contains an overview of studies and trials which used CBD and Δ9 THC to treat memory disorders,
Schizophrenia, anxiety, and depression, as well as early information CBD s neuroprotective properties
as possible treatment for Parkinson s disease, Huntington s disease, Neonatal Ischaemia/newborn
hypoxic ichaemic brain damage, and Multiple Sclerosis.
Cannabinoids in the Brain:
Potential Therapeutic Use of Cannabidiol Versus Delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabinol in the Treatment of
Psychiatric Disorders The neuromodulatory lipids endocannabinnoids, along with their receptors, are
found naturally throughout the body, and have a primary goal of assisting with homeostasis. They help
to carry out a myriad of physiological processes including mood, appetite, memory, and the sensation
of pain (Sagie et al., 2013). Since the discovery of the naturally occurring receptors in the early 1990
s, plant derived cannabinnoids have gone under increasingly extensive clinical trials for their possible
therapeutic uses (Kumar et al., 2001). Two of the plant derived cannabinnoids that have been, and

False Perception Paper
False Perception There are times when correlation between variables appears to present an obvious
causal relationship, however, it is irresponsible for both researchers and the news media to produce
predictions without looking for alternate factors. A good example is decades of reporting on the
relationship between single mother households (independent variable) and rising crime rates
(dependent variable). The preceding example was explored by Philip Cohen (2012) in his article on
the single mom and murder rate relationship during the 1990s, in which he noted, I think single
mothers especially those who were raising kids back in the 1990s deserve an apology from the
conventional wisdom purveyors of that time (para. 2). Beginning with an exploration of the media s
interpretation of this relationship, I will also further examine the correct interpretation, and the policy
implications of Cohen s finding. The Media s Interpretation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Sadly, it appears the media bought into an apparent epidemic and began to publish reports, perhaps
driven by confirmation bias or simply failing to conduct enough investigation. The published reports
in the 1990s cited the cause of rising crime rates as the rising amount of black households with single
mothers that were unable to control their children, instill values, etc. (Cohen, 2012). While I believe it
is not that farfetched to assume there is a relationship between family structure and the youths from
those households committing crime, I also believe there are other factors involved that the media
should have

Who Is The Double Person In Macbeth
The emotions some people portray, and the personalities they hide inside are often differing from one
another. This can be explained by the insecurity of themselves. An example of an insecure person
would be a bully. A bully disguises themselves as tough and rough being who belittles his/her peers,
but on the inside they are truly weak people. By showing superiority, the bully feels more at ease with
him/her self because they are not the ones being targeted and the attention is not on them. William
Shakespeare s Macbeth creates characters such as Lady Macbeth and Macbeth to possess personality
qualitites of the opposite gender. Critics, however, disagree as to why Shakespeare intended on
creating these kinds of characters with Thomas F. Connolly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

the two sides of the double man are these: one is brave, honorable, strong, inclined to be conventional
and not too bright, while the other is the devious character already described, who places intelligence,
even a dark intelligence, above mere honor (31). In the play it is often seen how Macbeth is consumed
by stress over doing the fair or foul thing, most often than not he chooses to do the wrong thing and is
taken over by his sense of greed. We see a change in character in Macbeth from starting out as an
honorable war hero to a weak, indecisive, and evil person. Connolly goes on further and says that
Lady Macbeth and the witches represent an unconscious motivation. The witches deceive by falsely
making true promises of success, and Lady Macbeth by her denial to seeing that there is moral
consequences. In the beginning Macbeth is the one with the imagination; he quails before the deed
because he can envision it before it occurs. His wife complains of what she calls his weakness because
she is incapable of being appalled by an event which has not yet taken place (32). By seeing how
unaffected Lady Macbeth is by certain situations we see how cold hearted she is and how distant she
is from her feminine side of thinking. Macbeth is more morally conscious in doing the right thing than
Lady Macbeth, but towards the end Macbeth shows a change in character proving the Double Man
theory. Connolly then pin points the moment Macbeth turned dark and evil when he says to Lenox T
was a rough night (Macbeth). He acts completely normal masking his culpability showing that he feels
no remorse for what he had done. Connolly illustrates the insecurity of the characters by explaining
his Double Man theory to show that the characters evolved from beginning to end in a negative

Stolen Art History
The biggest art robbery in history was the theft where a total of 15 art works were stolen. Totaled up
the works were valued at $500million. The government had several attempts at trying to find the art
works and its values. A reward was set at $5 million dollars despite the art valuing way more than that
lump sum of cash. In 1997 inspector Clouseau received paint chips in which the supposed art
snatchers claimed to be from the stolen art work. In 2003 the chips were examined and had a fairly
rare paint coating called red lake which was used in one of the stolen art works called Vermeer which

The Importance Of Self Reflection
Peoples appearances in todays society is based upon the clothes they decided to wear that morning, the
hairstyle they spent hours on doing and the hours that they would never get back deciding what pattern
would look cute to wear on the outside of their skin, bedazzled with sterling silver. With no
anticipation of being stereotyped people continuously repeat these actions in the purpose of self
satisfaction or expression. The two articles referred to in this essay provides personal experiences of
the causes in self reflection decisions in addition to a medical perspective on why sometimes the risk
outweighs the rewards. In fact, in the Article Dredlocked: You see my hair, but do you see me? by
Veronica Chambers she gives a backstory on how her hair was portrayed her whole life as bad , nappy
, or hard and short . She continues more in depth on how she was surrounded by others whose hair
was straightened into acceptance. Her family, best friend and the doll barbie was even mentioned as a
example of her surroundings that belittled her hair texture. Sharing a story that took place her junior
year in college onNew Year s Eve, Chambers took action in regards to twisting her hair. She long
waited for a call from a boy that was never received. Previously inspired months before by a model on
the front cover of essence, she forwarded to imitating the locks flowing with all the majesty seen on
Alice Walker. In the process of twisting her hair, she quoted a saying her mother told her for
motivation However New Year s catches you is how you ll spend the year . After hours spent on her
hair the first response was given by her aunt shaking her head in disapproval. Stereotypes flowed in
more than ever. She was called a Rasta mama , Nubian princess , drug dealer , unemployed artist ,
nature chick , rock star , and people even inferred that she smoked weed and listened to Bob Marley.
Chambers told herself that twisting her hair started a process of seeing beauty where no one had ever
seen it before . Chambers withstood the negative and complementing stereotypes in regards to her
own self satisfaction. Her satisfaction of her self expression was all the justification she needed, she
no longer attempted

Handmaids Tale Analysis
The Handmaid s Tale, a film based on Margaret Atwood s book depicts a dystopia, where pollution
and radiation have rendered innumerable women sterile, and the birthrates of North America have
plummeted to dangerously low levels. To make matters worse, the nation s plummeting birth rates are
blamed on its women. The United States, now renamed the Republic of Gilead, retains power the use
of piousness, purges, and violence. A Puritan theocracy, the Republic of Gilead, with its religious
trappings and rigid class, gender, and racial castes is built around the singular desire to control
reproduction. Despite this, the republic is inhabited by characters who would not seem out of place in
today s society. They plant flowers in the yard, live in suburban houses, drink whiskey in the den and
follow a far off a war on the television. The film leaves the conditions of the war and the society
vague, but this is not a political tale, like Fahrenheit 451, but rather a feminist one. As such, the film,
isolates, exaggerates and dramatizes the systems in which women are the handmaidens of today s
society in general and men in particular. In the Republic of Gilead, children are seen as lawful
possessions of wealthy, powerful couples like the Commander and his wife. As such, women called
handmaids have been reduced to two basic functions, breeding and buying groceries. Moreover, since
women are prohibited to vote, write or read, the grocery store labels all of the products

Truck Driving Career
II. A. I am researching Truck Driving as a career. Truck driving is moving cargo, supplies or product
from one place to another. Commercial tractor trailer drivers have a physically demanding job. Driver
will be driving for very long hours and that can be really tiring. When unloading or loading the truck,
drivers will be walking and carrying, lifting and moving cargo to and from the truck. I chose this
career because I will get to travel around the state or even the country.

Symbols and Imagery in F. Scott Ftizgerald s The Great Gatsby
F. Scott Fitzgerald is known for his use of symbols and imagery throughout The Great Gatsby to
illustrate his many ideas and themes. The green light is a symbol that seems to pervade the novel,
taking on many meanings. The image of the green light is presented in Chapter 1, as Gatsby extended
his arms to the single green light at Daisy s dock as if it were some sort of religious icon. Jordan also
confirms this sense of idolization when she says that Gatsby bought [his] house so that Daisy would
be just across the bay, suggesting his obsessive devotion to Daisy (77). As shown in Chapter 9, the
green light can also be interpreted as a symbol of growth. Near the end of the novel, Fitzgerald
illustrates Daisy s dock transforming into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, Fitzgerald manages to criticize the Jazz age society with the use of imagery. Gatsby
views his car, a flamboyant Rolls Royce, as a display of his wealth; however its rich cream color,
swollen in its monstrous length, and terraced with a labyrinth of windshields, makes the automobile
seem outrageous rather than stunning and impressive (64). However, Gatsby s automobile transforms
into a death car when in the hands of Daisy, as she murders Myrtle Wilson. Similarly, Wilson s garage
having only a dust covered wreck of a Ford, characterizes Wilson himself in the Valley of ashes (25).
Additionally, the seemingly violent car accident at Gatsby s party in Chapter 3 foreshadows Myrtle s
death in Chapter 7. Fitzgerald s use of cars assists in personifying Gatsby s tendency to be excessive
and tasteless, Daisy s cruel insensitivity, and Wilson s misery and lifelessness. Fitzgerald s vivid
description of various settings is not only used to enrich the novel, but also to criticize American
society of the 1920 s. Nick states that behind New York s wild promise of all the mystery and beauty
of the world lies corruption and vulgarity, as small rooms are tastelessly furnished with ostentatious
furniture (68). As seen in Chapter 2, the setting of New York itself is where Tom strikes Myrtle and
[breaks] her nose with his open hand . This not only reveals the imprudence of the upper class, but
also their disposition to smash things up . Also, the

Aura Of Japan Research Paper
Aura of Japan With climate generally characterized as monsoonal in the winter (wet and dry seasonal
winds), Japan s weather ranges from heavy snow to tropical summers. The high pressure zone over
Siberia and the low pressure zone over the Pacific results in a flow of cold air in an eastward direction
that picks up moisture over Japan. Japan has two main climate types in the north and south; humid
continental and humid subtropical respectively. In short, Japan has two general areas in which the

Examples Of Forbidden Love In A Midsummer Night s Dream
The Theme of Love in A Midsummer Night s Dream
Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind. And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind. Though
she be but little, she is fierce! Love remains the dominant theme in A Midsummer Night s Dream.
Shakespeare utilizes the concepts of forbidden love and magic and throughout the play. An example of
forbidden love occurs when Hermia disobeys her father and elopes with Lysander, going against
Athenian Law. She deserts Demetrius, the man her father chose for her. Magic also presents itself
throughout the story, when the characters travel in the fairies forest. Shakespeare utilizes various types
of love in A Midsummer s Night Dream to support the theme of love.
At the beginning of the play, the author showcases forced love between Hippolyta and Theseus, and
Demetrius and Hermia (Pyros). Theseus says in Act I, I wooed thee with my sword, to portray that he
won her with his sword as in the battle to win her love, implying that she marries him, only because he
won a battle. Another example of forced love includes Hermia and Demetrius. According to Athenian
law, a daughter must obey her father at all costs, or risk being killed. ... Show more content on

Egeus has a strict hold on his daughter and his family. He believes that he knows what benefits his
daughter; therefore, he chooses Demetrius to marry her. Despite having all the qualifications that

he, as well possessed. My love is more than his. My fortunes every way as fairly ranked, (If not with
vantage) as Demetrius . He thinks that Lysander fakes his love for Hermia, sending her fictitious love
letters, songs, and presents. All of the heartache and unnecessary drama Egeus causes, derives from
his love for Hermia. He only wants the best for her, even if it means breaking her

application database which lead to the corruption of Cisco s database. Consequently the company shut
down virtually for two days.
Seeking for a new start
After the shutdown managers realized that the autonomous approach was not sufficient. There was the
need for a more integrated action, indeed separated decisions among the departments would have
taken too long. As a result the company gathered an Implementation Team to investigate on the
replacement of the application.
Thanks to the previous experience of the SVP of manufacturing Carl Redfield it was clear that the
implementation of IT projects can take a long time to be effective. In order to make the
implementation as quick as possible Redfield suggested to implement the project all at once and to do
not personalize the new system. Projects that are divided into phases and customized tend to take
longer time to be efficient, and many times they tend to become only an adaptation of the previous
method. He suggested also to make the implementation a priority for every department: the
involvement of the entire company is important for the effectiveness of the project.
Other than selecting within the company the best components for the Implementation Team, it was

A Natural History Of The Homo Sapien
A Natural History of the
HOMO SAPIEN
160,000 years ago, a new species was born. Today, I am excited to say that I am a part of that species;
we all are. In fact, there are approximately 7 billion of us on this planet; Homo sapiens, that is who we
are. We evolved in Africa and like many other early humans that were living at this time, we gathered
and hunted food. But as time went on, we evolved, as to better suit our forever changing environment.
Humans have the capacity to adapt to any given situation and over time our behaviors change, as to
better suit said situation. Our behaviors is what allows us to challenge our environment in any unstable
circumstance and come out on the other side. After all, we are just trying to survive.
Classification Classifying an organism is no easy task. In order to classify an organism, we must use a
hierarchical system. The hierarchical system was invented by Carolus Linnaeus and includes many
aspects, such as an organisms kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and lastly, species. So
technically, species is what the organism is; is is it s classification. You see, there are different ways in
which we define a species. In the case of the Homo sapien, species is a sexually reproducing organism
which in other words allows other members of said species to reproduce amongst themselves creating
viable offspring that can do the same. Although we call the Homo sapien a human , the more scientific
term is whom we really are.

John Steinbeck introduces the character Crooks in the novella, Of Mice and Men, by presenting his
character through his possessions and through the little description of his appearance. At the beginning
of chapter four, Steinbeck presents Crooks as a negro stable buck, then begins to show the readers
what Crooks are like through his possessions. Steinbeck introduces Crooks to the readers in this way,
so the readers have an idea of what type of life Crooks had lived as a coloured man. That quote also
gives the readers hints of the theme of racism and how society was like during the 1930s.
Furthermore, it is shown to the readers that Crooks has ...more possessions than ... Show more content

In the fourth chapter, Crooks had started to express how lonely he actually was once he started to talk
to Candy and Lennie. Crooks had been on the ranch for a long time longer than any usual itinerant
workers and after being there for a long time he started to feel alone. Moreover, even though Crooks
valued his knowledge to read and preferred to keep his distance from the others he still felt all alone.
In the novella, it is stated that A guy sets alone out here...readin books or thinkin ... which tells the
readers how even though Crooks acts as a proud, aloof man, he is still just like any other person, who
ll get lonely, since ...books ain t no good. A guy needs somebody. Additionally, this is furthered by
Crooks by stating that ... a guy gets too lonely an he gets sick. This also furthers the knowledge of the
readers about the people during The Great Depression, which is that people were very lonely as they
had nobody, but themselves, to survive the harsh economic downfall. Furthermore, it also shows how
Crooks puts on a barrier in front of others to protect himself, which makes him feel alone. However,
when Lennie and Candy came and talked to Crooks, he had momentarily let his guard down, since it
was difficult for [him] to conceal his pleasure with anger. So, he ended up opening up about himself
and the loneliness he felt. Additionally, this theme of loneliness also links with the racism and
prejudice Crooks and other black people had to feel. Due to discrimination, Crooks had to be by
himself, which is probably one of the reasons on why Crooks had placed a barrier around himself as
he had to deal with the prejudice that faced him. The novella, Of Mice and Men, states that They play
cards in there, but [he] can t because [he s] black, which shows us how Crooks was never allowed to

to speak properly. Eliza agrees to let him teach her and she is taken to his home and is taught how to
be proper and if she convinced Queen Victoria that she belonged in the higher class then in return
Professor Higgins would reward her with chocolates. Professor Higgins teaches Eliza how to speak
proper English by helping her with her pronunciation of several different phrases that would teach her
how to speak properly so that no one would know that she was not actually from a high class family.
She goes on to perfect her speaking so that she could attend me the derby for her first test. She does
well but at the end she gets involved with the race and she ruins her cover and exposes herself. She
goes on to continue working hard to perfect high class tendencies. She, along with Professor Higgins,
later attend the ball for her final test. She dances and talks amongst the other guests and no one seems
to see past Eliza s act. She convinces everyone except for Colonel Pickering, who insists that she is an
imposter. Eliza carries on as if she is who she is perceiving to be. She returns home with Professor
Higgins and they all have a laugh about what had happened at the ball except for Eliza

Assassination Of The Post War 20th Century
He was shot on 22 November 1963, while travelling with his wife through Dallas, Texas, in the back
of an open top convertible.Lee Harvey Oswald opened fire as the presidential motorcade passed the
Texas School Book Depository at 12.30pm and the president was pronounced dead at Dallas s
Parkland Hospital 30 minutes later. The assassination became a defining event of the post war 20th
century, but a lack of clarity over the precise circumstances, together with the fact his assassin was
himself murdered two days later, have led to a host of conspiracy theories over who was to blame. In
1964, the Warren Commission concluded Kennedy was killed by a lone assassin Oswald while three
other investigations, in 1968, 1975, and 1978 79, confirmed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It s just one reason why conspiracy theorists think more than one shooter was involved.
The Grassy Knoll: Most JFK conspiracy theories pivot around the idea that Oswald wasn t acting
alone. When the president was hit by the bullet that killed him, the motorcade was passing a grassy
knoll on the north side of Elm Street. Newspaper photographs record that shortly after the shooting,
police arrested three tramps found in a railroad car behind the knoll. Because the men were clean
shaven and well dressed there was speculation that they were CIA assassins rather than hobos.
The Long List of Culprits: If Oswald was a paid assassin rather than a disaffected loner, who was
writing his pay cheques? The list of candidates is long, but some names are put forward more than
most. They are:The CIA: The idea that the assassination was a CIA plot sounds bizarre, but conspiracy
theorists suggest the president s alleged comment that he wanted to splinter the CIA into a thousand
pieces and scatter it to the winds made him an agency target. Other theories suggest that one of the
tramps (see above) was E Howard Hunt, a former CIA operative who was involved in the ill fated Bay
of Pigs operation to oust Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
The Mafia: Why would the mafia want JFK dead? Because his brother, Robert, was turning up the
heat on organised crime. Robert was the US attorney general at the time and his anti mafia crusade

The Impact Of Modern Day Internet On Our Daily Lives Essay
HExecutive Summary
If we go back to history, two decades ago, people used primitive message boards or emails to talk to
one another and a business would communicate via text ads or pop ups on search engine/directory like
Yahoo. (Bolman, 2015, Para 4) Then in 1997, two Stanford Ph.D. students invented an algorithm
named PageRank. The PageRank calculated the importance of the website based on how often other
sites would link to it. Later, with the introduction of Google, the first wave of technology began. This
invention put the modern day internet in motion. (Bolman, 2015, Para 5) This essay paper is about the
modern day internet and the technological uses in our daily lives. This paper will take a closer look at
how we communicate on the internet and discusses about the major network building blocks and their
functions, including some vulnerabilities associated with the internet software applications.
How we communicate on the internet
In 1969, DOD s ARPA (Advanced Research Project Agency) began an effort to develop redundant and
survivable strategic communication architecture. (APUS, n.d., Week 1 Lesson) This DOD attempt
gave birth to Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)/Internet Protocol (IP). TCP /IP soon found its
widespread uses in the web and many networking applications (because they were very reliable and
effective). TCP/IP made web enabled devices possible. In addition, TCP/IP would connect to the
internet (if desired) for remote

Howard Thurman Essay
Howard Thurman was born in Daytona, Florida (1899) into an overtly segregated and racially biased
community. Due to an absence of educational opportunities for African Americans in Daytona,
Thurman chose to attend a religiously affiliated high school in the Jacksonville area. As he progressed
in age, Thurman developed a unique style of nature mysticism through his veneration of
environmental phenomena. Additionally, Thurman was a prolific student who excelled at almost every
level of study. After he completed his education, Thurman held teaching positions at various colleges
and engaged in wide reaching lecture tours. During this early period in Thurman s career, he began to
formulate and cultivate the major ideas that would comprise his ... Show more content on

By acknowledging each individual s status as a child of God, the damning effects of fear, deception,
and hatred can be eradicated by the powerful love of Christ. For Thurman, the true spirit of Christian
relationships rests in the ability to love one s enemies. Although this specific teaching is not new or
unique, its application to Christian relationships (especially between the disinherited and the
privileged ) is extremely pertinent. Enmity between two individuals or two groups of individuals
causes a physical and spiritual disunion that obstructs the individual s ability to experience the power
of Christ. Therefore, I must resolve to always demonstrate an attitude of love toward my enemies in
order to preserve the unity that is so vital to genuine spiritual experience. Ultimately, I found Howard
Thurman s theory on the disinherited to be both logically valid and extremely thought provoking. In
truth, I experienced a deeper engagement with Thurman s ideas than any other spiritual practitioner
that I have explored thus far this semester. This study has caused me to reflect on my own status as a
privileged individual, realize my need to identify with the disinherited, and remember to demonstrate
love to my

Euthanasia And Physician Assisted Suicide Essay
Euthanasia and physician assisted suicide are both types of medical assistance aiding in ending a
suffering patient s life. This pain may be due to a terminal illness and suffering as well as those in an
irreversible coma. This practice of doctor assisted suicide is illegal in many countries, but is increasing
in popularity as people start to recognize the positive aspects that euthanasia has to offer for those that
fit the criteria. Euthanasia is essential for those, placed in such life diminishing situations, and whom
no longer want to experience suffering. This is where the issue gets complicated, and many religious
groups argue that individuals should not have the legal right to choose whether they get to die or not,
but that it is simply in God s hands. Suffering patients argue that they should be given the right to
choose whether or not they have to experience this suffering, to end their life with the dignity they still
have, and to alleviate the stress that their deteriorating life conditions have on their families,
themselves and the entire healthcare system. Therefore, despite the many arguments, euthanasia can
have a very positive impact on the lives and families of suffering individuals, as well as the Canadian
healthcare system.
To kill an individual or simply let someone die who meets the criteria of a sick patient are deemed
very two different things. Killing someone who does not wish to die goes against our basic human law
of life. Killing of intent defies

Bilgamesh Research Paper
The Tales of Bilgames are described as pre dating Gilgamesh s tales, a similarity in their quests can be
seen between the two. Their societies are also mentioned within both stories and they dealt with
Bilgames and Gilgamesh in a similar way; however, the way they deal with death and mortality is
very apparent. Even though there are slight differences in the two stories, the author of Gilgamesh
kept a majority of details the same. The society within Mesopotamia in both these stories is one of
polytheism, worshipping multiple gods and goddesses to lead them through life. Bilgames and
Gilgamesh are both rulers in Uruk because they are described as being the strongest among them, and
their parental lineage has a deity in their blood. When faced with a conflict, Gilgamesh fighting

Bilgames is shown his death and told by the god Enlil, for mankind, whatever life it has, be not sick at
heart, be not in despair, be not heart stricken (200). Enlil emphasizes that Bilgames should not be
angry or upset at his fate for it was to come I made your destiny a destiny of kinship, but I did not
make it a destiny of eternal life (200). Bilgames should embrace that he has lived a full life and that he
will see his family and his friend Enkidu in the afterlife plus he will be considered a lesser god within
the hierarchy. Gilgamesh however, valiantly tries to escape death after witnessing Enkidu s demise; he
becomes distraught by his own morality and searches for a way to immortality. I am afraid of death, so
I wander the wild (70). He seeks Uta napishti but cannot complete the trial to become immortal and he
fails in his endeavor, he must turn back but he is given one last chance to gain everlasting life but he
loses that as well. Then Gilgamesh sat down and wept

Libraries Should Use Software Filters for Internet Access
Public libraries provide us with a large amount of information. Residents can borrow books from
libraries. Libraries also provide Internet access for everyone, including children. Since parents cannot
control what then children are seeing on the Internet in libraries, children can access pornographic or
violent sites easily. So, public libraries should restrict Internet access by utilizing filtering software to
prevent children from seeing those inappropriate sites. The American Libraries Association (ALA)
insists that it is improper for public libraries to use filtering software since libraries have to provide
broad materials for patrons. Their claim that filtering software ... Show more content on

Finally, the ALA says that filtering software is made for the parental control in homes. It is not
suitable, they assert, for public libraries to use the software. Libraries should provide broad,
uncensored for their patrons. So information in libraries may be limited by filtering control. The ALA
also claims that public institutions are supported primarily by local public tax monies, so libraries are
obligated to meet the information needs of the entire community or school population, while
upholding the basic principles of the First Amendment ( American Library 1). People tend to think that
a lot of adult sited exist on the web pages because accessing rates of those sites are very high. So
people also think that restriction limits a large amount of information and sites on the Internet. In fact,
the adult sites account for a small percentage of all. Estimates of the prevalence of adult sites range
from one to three percent of all the Internet web sites (Burt 2). The numbers of those sites look big,
but it is just because there are many visitors to those pages. Since the adult sites account for a small
percentage of all sites, the web sites that are restricted by filtering software must be a small portion as
well. A library s mission is to provide proper observation to patrons in communities, since it is free for
everyone to get information

Henrik Ibsen a Doll s House
In the play A Doll House, by Henrik Ibsen, the convention of marriage is examined and questioned for
its lack of honesty. The play is set in the late 1800s, which provides the backdrop for the debate about
roles of people in society. Ibsen uses the minor character, Dr. Rank, to help develop the theme of
conflicts within society. This, in turn, creates connections with the plot. Dr. Rank s function in the play
is to foreshadow, symbolize, and reflect upon the truth of life and society and to break down the
barrier between appearance and reality. One function of Dr. Rank in the play is to foreshadow events
to come. Upon Rank s introduction in Act I, the reader is immediately given insight into the conflict
Nora will face with Krogstad. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can clearly be seen in what happens after the statement Nora makes about receiving Rank s
calling cards telling of his coming death, That when those cards came, he d be taking his leave of us.
He ll shut himself in now and die (1604). It is with this extremely symbolic statement that the reader
can see the connections between Rank, the death of a society which does not allow honesty in
marriage, and the end of pretending by Nora. Almost immediately after Nora makes the statement
about Dr. Rank, she decides to perform a final examination of her life and lets the letter from Krogstad
be revealed. It is through the symbolism of Rank that the reader sees the deterioration of society as it
was known by the main characters. Another function that Dr. Rank serves is that of reflecting upon the
true personalities of Nora and Torvald. Rank s friendship with Nora and Torvald is thought to be the
same, yet they are independently different. Nora is able to talk more seriously with Rank then she is
with Torvald. This aspect of Rank s friendship with Nora becomes evident in her statement: You see,
Torvald loves me beyond words, and, as he puts it, he d like to keep me all to himself. For a long time
he d almost be jealous if I even mentioned any of my old friends back home. So of course I dropped
that. But with Dr. Rank I talk a lot about such things, because he likes hearing about them. (1585)
From this statement the reader is able to understand

Summary Of Everybody Needs A Rock
The children s book, Everybody Needs A Rock, was written by Byrd Baylor and illustrated by Peter
Parnall, originally published in 1974. Baylor s simple and whimsical writing emphasizes the curiosity
that children have for nature. The illustrations are surprisingly minimalist, a departure from most
children s book drawings. The book has numerous story elements that appeal to children.
The themes and illustrations of the book are a stark contrast from ordinary children s books. Unlike
the vibrant color schemes that one can normally find in books from the same genre, Parnall uses a
minimalist style to hint at the concept of centration. His drawings heavily rely on negative space to
draw attention to the unnamed protagonist of the story, a child who has one special goal: finding ...

Baylor treats the rock as an entity, I m sorry for kids who don t have a rock for a friend (Parnall), by
comparing it to people without one. He implies that not having a rock is almost like missing out on
finding friendship. While the rocks in the story aren t personified, one can surmise that searching for
them is like looking for a friend: it takes time and patience. The story favors individualism over family
ties, When you are looking at rocks don t let mothers or fathers or sisters or brothers or even best
friends talk to you, implying a child s egocentrism. Throughout the book, Baylor reminds the audience
that only they can know which is the right rock for them. The writing style is straightforward,
formatted in a way that s reminiscent of Wallace Steven s Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird.
Instead of a blackbird, Baylor presents ten rules that a child should follow when searching for a rock.
His frequent use of hyperbole, A rock as big as a horse is MUCH too big, gives room for the child to
use their imagination. Along with hyperbole, Baylor uses parentheticals to

The Experiences of Montag
In the beginning of this part, the writer presents the scene where Beatty prepares for putting Montag s
house on fire. Before igniting the fire, Beatty tells Montag that all of what is about to happen, is a
result of a wrong decision Montag made, which is the decision of reading and collecting books. Then,
Mildred runs out of the door with a suitcase, and takes a taxi that was waiting for her at the curb. So,
Montag suspects Mildred to be the one who sounded the alarm for the firemen to come. After that,
Faber asks Montag about what is happening at the moment, through the earpiece that he gave to
Montag before. Montag tells him, This is happening to me (Bradbury 115). When Faber comprehends
the situation, he advises Montag to run away from the whole scene. At this moment, Beatty starts
speaking to Montag about the beauty of fire. Beatty claims that the real beauty of fire lies in its
perpetual motion, which was the thing that man wanted to invent but never did. He also thinks that fire
is the solution to problems and burdens. that since Montag is a problem and a burden, then fire is the
solution that will lift Montag off his shoulders. As a tool of mental torture for Montag, Beatty insists
that Montag burns his own house, with his own hands, using a flame thrower. Through Montag s
earpiece, Faber repeats himself, and tells Montag that he should run away. Montag responds to Faber
aloud and tells him that he can t possibly run, since he is surrounded by the Hound.

The Effect Of Chewing Gum On Cognitive Processing
Some reports have suggested that chewing gum might improve the performance in memory task,
although other studies have not confirmed this effect of chewing. Little is known about the brain
activity and the task performance while chewing gum. Near infrared spectroscopy is a spectroscopic
method that uses the near infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum(what does this mean). Put
in my own words, describe what it means.Near infrared spectroscopy is a useful tool for investigating
brain function and can measure brain activity during bodily movements. Wadi et al. s purpose of the
study was to clarify the effects of chewing gum on cognitive processing during and after chewing
gum, using NIRS based measurement of cerebral hemodynamic response. They investigated the effect
of chewing on the hemodynamic changes in this brain region, using NIRS (Hoshi et al., 2000), and the
performance of subjects in a short term memory task involving serial recall of random eight digit
numbers. The study asked for 30 healthy volunteers(is this enough to make conclusive) with no
history of neurological, psychiatric, temporomandibular joint disorders. The volunteers were asked to
recall random eight digit numbers. They sat in a dimly lit room in front of a PC monitor and the a
series of 8 digit numbers flashed on the screen for two seconds. They were then told to type out the
numbers and the PC proceeded to flash a new 8 digit number when they had finished typing the
previous number. The

  • 2. Potential Therapeutic Treatment Options For Psychiatric... Since the early 1990 s discovery of the naturally occurring endocannabinnoid receptors CB1 and CB2 in the human brain, preclinical and clinical trials focusing on plant derived cannabinnoids have begun to regain momentum. This paper focuses on the cannabinnoids Cannabidiol (CBD) and Delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9 THC) as potential therapeutic treatment options for psychiatric disorders. It contains an overview of studies and trials which used CBD and Δ9 THC to treat memory disorders, Schizophrenia, anxiety, and depression, as well as early information CBD s neuroprotective properties as possible treatment for Parkinson s disease, Huntington s disease, Neonatal Ischaemia/newborn hypoxic ichaemic brain damage, and Multiple Sclerosis. Cannabinoids in the Brain: Potential Therapeutic Use of Cannabidiol Versus Delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabinol in the Treatment of Psychiatric Disorders The neuromodulatory lipids endocannabinnoids, along with their receptors, are found naturally throughout the body, and have a primary goal of assisting with homeostasis. They help to carry out a myriad of physiological processes including mood, appetite, memory, and the sensation of pain (Sagie et al., 2013). Since the discovery of the naturally occurring receptors in the early 1990 s, plant derived cannabinnoids have gone under increasingly extensive clinical trials for their possible therapeutic uses (Kumar et al., 2001). • 3. False Perception Paper False Perception There are times when correlation between variables appears to present an obvious causal relationship, however, it is irresponsible for both researchers and the news media to produce predictions without looking for alternate factors. A good example is decades of reporting on the relationship between single mother households (independent variable) and rising crime rates (dependent variable). The preceding example was explored by Philip Cohen (2012) in his article on the single mom and murder rate relationship during the 1990s, in which he noted, I think single mothers especially those who were raising kids back in the 1990s deserve an apology from the conventional wisdom purveyors of that time (para. 2). Beginning with an exploration of the media s interpretation of this relationship, I will also further examine the correct interpretation, and the policy implications of Cohen s finding. The Media s Interpretation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sadly, it appears the media bought into an apparent epidemic and began to publish reports, perhaps driven by confirmation bias or simply failing to conduct enough investigation. The published reports in the 1990s cited the cause of rising crime rates as the rising amount of black households with single mothers that were unable to control their children, instill values, etc. (Cohen, 2012). While I believe it is not that farfetched to assume there is a relationship between family structure and the youths from those households committing crime, I also believe there are other factors involved that the media should have ... • 4. Who Is The Double Person In Macbeth The emotions some people portray, and the personalities they hide inside are often differing from one another. This can be explained by the insecurity of themselves. An example of an insecure person would be a bully. A bully disguises themselves as tough and rough being who belittles his/her peers, but on the inside they are truly weak people. By showing superiority, the bully feels more at ease with him/her self because they are not the ones being targeted and the attention is not on them. William Shakespeare s Macbeth creates characters such as Lady Macbeth and Macbeth to possess personality qualitites of the opposite gender. Critics, however, disagree as to why Shakespeare intended on creating these kinds of characters with Thomas F. Connolly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... the two sides of the double man are these: one is brave, honorable, strong, inclined to be conventional and not too bright, while the other is the devious character already described, who places intelligence, even a dark intelligence, above mere honor (31). In the play it is often seen how Macbeth is consumed by stress over doing the fair or foul thing, most often than not he chooses to do the wrong thing and is taken over by his sense of greed. We see a change in character in Macbeth from starting out as an honorable war hero to a weak, indecisive, and evil person. Connolly goes on further and says that Lady Macbeth and the witches represent an unconscious motivation. The witches deceive by falsely making true promises of success, and Lady Macbeth by her denial to seeing that there is moral consequences. In the beginning Macbeth is the one with the imagination; he quails before the deed because he can envision it before it occurs. His wife complains of what she calls his weakness because she is incapable of being appalled by an event which has not yet taken place (32). By seeing how unaffected Lady Macbeth is by certain situations we see how cold hearted she is and how distant she is from her feminine side of thinking. Macbeth is more morally conscious in doing the right thing than Lady Macbeth, but towards the end Macbeth shows a change in character proving the Double Man theory. Connolly then pin points the moment Macbeth turned dark and evil when he says to Lenox T was a rough night (Macbeth). He acts completely normal masking his culpability showing that he feels no remorse for what he had done. Connolly illustrates the insecurity of the characters by explaining his Double Man theory to show that the characters evolved from beginning to end in a negative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The government had several attempts at trying to find the art works and its values. A reward was set at $5 million dollars despite the art valuing way more than that lump sum of cash. In 1997 inspector Clouseau received paint chips in which the supposed art snatchers claimed to be from the stolen art work. In 2003 the chips were examined and had a fairly rare paint coating called red lake which was used in one of the stolen art works called Vermeer which when translated to English the concert . • 6. The Importance Of Self Reflection Peoples appearances in todays society is based upon the clothes they decided to wear that morning, the hairstyle they spent hours on doing and the hours that they would never get back deciding what pattern would look cute to wear on the outside of their skin, bedazzled with sterling silver. With no anticipation of being stereotyped people continuously repeat these actions in the purpose of self satisfaction or expression. The two articles referred to in this essay provides personal experiences of the causes in self reflection decisions in addition to a medical perspective on why sometimes the risk outweighs the rewards. In fact, in the Article Dredlocked: You see my hair, but do you see me? by Veronica Chambers she gives a backstory on how her hair was portrayed her whole life as bad , nappy , or hard and short . She continues more in depth on how she was surrounded by others whose hair was straightened into acceptance. Her family, best friend and the doll barbie was even mentioned as a example of her surroundings that belittled her hair texture. Sharing a story that took place her junior year in college onNew Year s Eve, Chambers took action in regards to twisting her hair. She long waited for a call from a boy that was never received. Previously inspired months before by a model on the front cover of essence, she forwarded to imitating the locks flowing with all the majesty seen on Alice Walker. In the process of twisting her hair, she quoted a saying her mother told her for motivation However New Year s catches you is how you ll spend the year . After hours spent on her hair the first response was given by her aunt shaking her head in disapproval. Stereotypes flowed in more than ever. She was called a Rasta mama , Nubian princess , drug dealer , unemployed artist , nature chick , rock star , and people even inferred that she smoked weed and listened to Bob Marley. Chambers told herself that twisting her hair started a process of seeing beauty where no one had ever seen it before . • 7. Handmaids Tale Analysis The Handmaid s Tale, a film based on Margaret Atwood s book depicts a dystopia, where pollution and radiation have rendered innumerable women sterile, and the birthrates of North America have plummeted to dangerously low levels. To make matters worse, the nation s plummeting birth rates are blamed on its women. The United States, now renamed the Republic of Gilead, retains power the use of piousness, purges, and violence. A Puritan theocracy, the Republic of Gilead, with its religious trappings and rigid class, gender, and racial castes is built around the singular desire to control reproduction. Despite this, the republic is inhabited by characters who would not seem out of place in today s society. They plant flowers in the yard, live in suburban houses, drink whiskey in the den and follow a far off a war on the television. The film leaves the conditions of the war and the society vague, but this is not a political tale, like Fahrenheit 451, but rather a feminist one. As such, the film, isolates, exaggerates and dramatizes the systems in which women are the handmaidens of today s society in general and men in particular. In the Republic of Gilead, children are seen as lawful possessions of wealthy, powerful couples like the Commander and his wife. As such, women called handmaids have been reduced to two basic functions, breeding and buying groceries. Moreover, since women are prohibited to vote, write or read, the grocery store labels all of the products ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Symbols and Imagery in F. Scott Ftizgerald s The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald is known for his use of symbols and imagery throughout The Great Gatsby to illustrate his many ideas and themes. The green light is a symbol that seems to pervade the novel, taking on many meanings. The image of the green light is presented in Chapter 1, as Gatsby extended his arms to the single green light at Daisy s dock as if it were some sort of religious icon. Jordan also confirms this sense of idolization when she says that Gatsby bought [his] house so that Daisy would be just across the bay, suggesting his obsessive devotion to Daisy (77). As shown in Chapter 9, the green light can also be interpreted as a symbol of growth. Near the end of the novel, Fitzgerald illustrates Daisy s dock transforming into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the novel, Fitzgerald manages to criticize the Jazz age society with the use of imagery. Gatsby views his car, a flamboyant Rolls Royce, as a display of his wealth; however its rich cream color, swollen in its monstrous length, and terraced with a labyrinth of windshields, makes the automobile seem outrageous rather than stunning and impressive (64). However, Gatsby s automobile transforms into a death car when in the hands of Daisy, as she murders Myrtle Wilson. Similarly, Wilson s garage having only a dust covered wreck of a Ford, characterizes Wilson himself in the Valley of ashes (25). Additionally, the seemingly violent car accident at Gatsby s party in Chapter 3 foreshadows Myrtle s death in Chapter 7. Fitzgerald s use of cars assists in personifying Gatsby s tendency to be excessive and tasteless, Daisy s cruel insensitivity, and Wilson s misery and lifelessness. Fitzgerald s vivid description of various settings is not only used to enrich the novel, but also to criticize American society of the 1920 s. Nick states that behind New York s wild promise of all the mystery and beauty of the world lies corruption and vulgarity, as small rooms are tastelessly furnished with ostentatious furniture (68). As seen in Chapter 2, the setting of New York itself is where Tom strikes Myrtle and [breaks] her nose with his open hand . • 13. Examples Of Forbidden Love In A Midsummer Night s Dream The Theme of Love in A Midsummer Night s Dream Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind. And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind. Though she be but little, she is fierce! Love remains the dominant theme in A Midsummer Night s Dream. Shakespeare utilizes the concepts of forbidden love and magic and throughout the play. An example of forbidden love occurs when Hermia disobeys her father and elopes with Lysander, going against Athenian Law. She deserts Demetrius, the man her father chose for her. Magic also presents itself throughout the story, when the characters travel in the fairies forest. Shakespeare utilizes various types of love in A Midsummer s Night Dream to support the theme of love. At the beginning of the play, the author showcases forced love between Hippolyta and Theseus, and Demetrius and Hermia (Pyros). Theseus says in Act I, I wooed thee with my sword, to portray that he won her with his sword as in the battle to win her love, implying that she marries him, only because he won a battle. In fact, there are approximately 7 billion of us on this planet; Homo sapiens, that is who we are. We evolved in Africa and like many other early humans that were living at this time, we gathered and hunted food. But as time went on, we evolved, as to better suit our forever changing environment. Humans have the capacity to adapt to any given situation and over time our behaviors change, as to better suit said situation. Our behaviors is what allows us to challenge our environment in any unstable circumstance and come out on the other side. After all, we are just trying to survive. Classification Classifying an organism is no easy task. In order to classify an organism, we must use a hierarchical system. The hierarchical system was invented by Carolus Linnaeus and includes many aspects, such as an organisms kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and lastly, species. So technically, species is what the organism is; is is it s classification. You see, there are different ways in which we define a species. In the case of the Homo sapien, species is a sexually reproducing organism which in other words allows other members of said species to reproduce amongst themselves creating viable offspring that can do the same. Although we call the Homo sapien a human , the more scientific term is whom we really are. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Steinbeck introduces Crooks to the readers in this way, so the readers have an idea of what type of life Crooks had lived as a coloured man. This also furthers the knowledge of the readers about the people during The Great Depression, which is that people were very lonely as they had nobody, but themselves, to survive the harsh economic downfall. Furthermore, it also shows how Crooks puts on a barrier in front of others to protect himself, which makes him feel alone. However, when Lennie and Candy came and talked to Crooks, he had momentarily let his guard down, since it was difficult for [him] to conceal his pleasure with anger. So, he ended up opening up about himself and the loneliness he felt. Additionally, this theme of loneliness also links with the racism and prejudice Crooks and other black people had to feel. Due to discrimination, Crooks had to be by himself, which is probably one of the reasons on why Crooks had placed a barrier around himself as he had to deal with the prejudice that faced him. The Impact Of Modern Day Internet On Our Daily Lives Essay HExecutive Summary If we go back to history, two decades ago, people used primitive message boards or emails to talk to one another and a business would communicate via text ads or pop ups on search engine/directory like Yahoo. (Bolman, 2015, Para 4) Then in 1997, two Stanford Ph.D. students invented an algorithm named PageRank. The PageRank calculated the importance of the website based on how often other sites would link to it. Later, with the introduction of Google, the first wave of technology began. This invention put the modern day internet in motion. (Bolman, 2015, Para 5) This essay paper is about the modern day internet and the technological uses in our daily lives. This paper will take a closer look at how we communicate on the internet and discusses about the major network building blocks and their functions, including some vulnerabilities associated with the internet software applications. How we communicate on the internet In 1969, DOD s ARPA (Advanced Research Project Agency) began an effort to develop redundant and survivable strategic communication architecture. (APUS, n.d., Week 1 Lesson) This DOD attempt gave birth to Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)/Internet Protocol (IP). Enmity between two individuals or two groups of individuals causes a physical and spiritual disunion that obstructs the individual s ability to experience the power of Christ. • 24. Euthanasia And Physician Assisted Suicide Essay Euthanasia and physician assisted suicide are both types of medical assistance aiding in ending a suffering patient s life. This pain may be due to a terminal illness and suffering as well as those in an irreversible coma. This practice of doctor assisted suicide is illegal in many countries, but is increasing in popularity as people start to recognize the positive aspects that euthanasia has to offer for those that fit the criteria. Euthanasia is essential for those, placed in such life diminishing situations, and whom no longer want to experience suffering. This is where the issue gets complicated, and many religious groups argue that individuals should not have the legal right to choose whether they get to die or not, but that it is simply in God s hands. Suffering patients argue that they should be given the right to choose whether or not they have to experience this suffering, to end their life with the dignity they still have, and to alleviate the stress that their deteriorating life conditions have on their families, themselves and the entire healthcare system. Therefore, despite the many arguments, euthanasia can have a very positive impact on the lives and families of suffering individuals, as well as the Canadian healthcare system. The play is set in the late 1800s, which provides the backdrop for the debate about roles of people in society. Ibsen uses the minor character, Dr. Rank, to help develop the theme of conflicts within society. This, in turn, creates connections with the plot. Dr. Rank s function in the play is to foreshadow, symbolize, and reflect upon the truth of life and society and to break down the barrier between appearance and reality. Almost immediately after Nora makes the statement about Dr. Rank, she decides to perform a final examination of her life and lets the letter from Krogstad be revealed. It is through the symbolism of Rank that the reader sees the deterioration of society as it was known by the main characters.
