Compare And Contrast Squid And Octopus
Kiera L. Bethel
Mr. Taulbee
English 2
20 December 2016
Squids vs. Octopus The ocean animals I am going to compare are octopus and squid. I am comparing
these two things because they are unique ocean creatures. I think that it is interesting how they both
catch their prey, and how they live. It is also really interesting to learn what they eat and how they do
things.
The first thing I am comparing is an octopus to a squid. An octopus has 8 tentacles, and uses all of
them to catch their prey. They live in dens on the seafloor. Octopus lose their outer shell and get a new
one back. They also have a round head. Octopus lifespan is 3 5 years. It has two eyes and four pairs of
arms, and like other cephalopods, it is bilaterally symmetric. It has a beak, with its mouth at the center
point of the arms. They feed mainly on worms, crabs, whelks and clams. The giant Pacific octopus
feeds on shrimp, clams, lobsters, and fish, and even larger prey, such as sharks and birds. It has a beak,
with its mouth at the center points of the arms. Octopuses are ocean creatures that are most famous for
having eight arms and bulbous heads. They squirt ink to deter predators; and being boneless, they can
squeeze into (or out of) tight spaces. The water depth in which they live ranges from the shallow,
coastal waters to about about 330 feet deep. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Parking Restrictions For A Condominium
What every Condominium Association needs to know about Parking Restrictions
The enforcement of parking restrictions is one of the most problems that condominium associations
and property managers are forced to deal with. In densely packed urban areas, parking spaces are
often at premium in condominiums and issues arise when co owners fail to park in their designated
areas. In contrast, suburban site condominiums with single family homes often face parking issues
related to parking boats, commercial vehicles or inoperable vehicles in driveways or on the street.
Accordingly, given the vast array of potential parking issues that can arise in a condominium,
condominium associations and property managers need to be prepared to ... Show more content on

While the Michigan Condominium Act does not have any specific provisions that regulate parking,
MCL 559.156(a) states that the condominium bylaws may contain provisions that are deemed
appropriate for the administration of the condominium project not inconsistent with this act or any
other applicable laws. However, any condominium bylaws that are related to parking must be
reasonable. Slatterly v Madiol, 257 Mich App 242, 256; 668 NW2d 154, 163 (2003) ( Bylaws must be
reasonable in themselves as well as in their practical application. ). Finally, even if the condominium
bylaws are silent with respect to adopting any specific parking standards or not specific, most
condominium bylaws allow for the condominium board to adopt reasonable rules and regulations that
govern the use of the common elements. Meadow Bridge Condo Ass n v Bosca, 187 Mich App 280,

condominium boards and property managers should determine whether the condominium bylaws
and/or rules adequately address parking issues or whether amendments are needed. Common issues
that should be addressed in the condominium bylaws or parking rules are as

women to take matters into their own hands and control their oppression. According to radical

The Impact Of Emission Trading
My business idea is to create a personal emission trading system, which will help governments to meet
their emission targets and it motivate the citizens to live an ecofriendly life style. Industry, market and
Competition Industry Emission trading is a new industry in North America but once it grows, it will
be one of the largest industry in the world. In Europe, the industry is worth 11 billion USD (European
Commision, 2017). The industry is in the younger phase in North America, so the profit will be high
in the initial stage but in the future, profit margin. Kyoto Protocol was the driving force in creating an

In the future, there are chances to have alternatives to emission trading Bargaining power of customers
The customers for the emission trading system are the corporates who buy carbon credit and the
individuals who sell their carbon credits to the system. The bargaining power of the corporations are
very high but the bargaining power of individual customers are relatively low Bargaining power of
Suppliers The suppliers to this business are the companies, which help to build the IT infrastructure.
There are many companies in the market which provide mobile application development and other IT
infrastructure. So the bargaining power of suppliers are low. Industry Rivalry The emission trading is
in the beginning stage in Canada, so the Industry rivalry is low. Market In the initial phase, business
model is consumers to Business. The emission credits are traded from individuals to corporations. In
the future, the business can be developed into Consumer to Consumer as well based on government
policies. More stringent policies are required to have a Consumer to Consumer Emission trading.
Demographics: The consumers are mainly young and middle aged population Geographic: The
consumers in the area where the emission trading system is applicable. Psychographics: The

Speech On Secondhand Smoke
Our Society and Secondhand Smoke
Secondhand smoke is serious health hazard to everyone; in order to lessen, if not totally eliminate,
children s exposure to cigarette smoke and to encourage the cigarette smokers to be more responsible
for the sake of others, amending the tobacco regulation act is a must. Secondhand smoke is a mixture
of the smoke from the burning end of a cigarette, pipe or cigar combined with the smoke breathed out
by a smoker. Secondhand smoke is accountable for 42,000 deaths annually to nonsmokers in the
United States, including nearly 900 infants, according to a new UCSF (University of California San
Francisco) study. Altogether, annual deaths from secondhand smoke represent nearly 600,000 years of
potential life lost an average of 14.2 years per person and $6.6 billion in lost productivity, amounting

According to a 2009 survey conducted by DOH (Department of Health) and Philippine Statistics
Authority, 28.3 percent of the population are current tobacco smokers. Among nonsmokers, about
46,000 heart disease deaths and 3,400 lung cancer deaths are caused by secondhand smoke each year.
Some research suggests that breathing in other people s smoke may increase the risk of breast cancer
and nasal sinus cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute, about 250 of the more than 7,000
chemicals in secondhand tobacco smoke are known to be harmful, and about 70 of them cause cancer.
Some of the chemicals in this toxic mix are the same things used to make chemical weapons, lighter
fluid, pesticides, car batteries, paint thinners and other substances you would never dream of inhaling
into your lungs. We have a chance to do something about the harmful effects of secondhand smoke

Brett Harris Autobiography
Brett Harris is an irrefutable genius with amazing hair, a surplus of sass, and endless amounts of
talents. I honestly think that he is the gay superman: perfectly dorky and strong, but without all of the
obvious muscle and a boy magnet on top of all the perfection. He is that last puzzle piece that Lauren
and I were missing from our best friendship. He drew me even further out of my shell and brought out
the sass in Lauren, we in turn let him cuss like a sailor and gave him an outlet for all types of boytalk.
I also provided him with hype, reminding him of how amazing a person he is and that he can do
anything; both Lauren and Brett seemed to forget how impossibly wonderful they are at times, so I
have made it my mission to remind them of their amazingness. If Lauren is the badass of the group,
Brett is the epitome of perfection. He is immensely smart, creative in every way, has the grace of a

What Is The Mood Of Vivaldi s Concerto In A Minor First...
Antonio Vivaldi was a 17th and 18th century world renowned classical composer. He is well known
for composing many pieces in his lifetime, one of his most notable pieces being The Four Seasons.
Being a composer in the 17th and 18th centuries, he was composing in the midst of the baroque era. In
the Concerto in A Minor, he utilizes the popular techniques to effectively engage the audience in the
intense and bizarre feelings that come from listening. The intent of this time period was to use drastic
dynamic changes, apparent contrast between soloists and orchestra parts, and recurring melodies to
effectively evoke emotional responses from the audience.
In Vivaldi s Concerto in A Minor First Movement, terraced dynamics are used throughout. Terraced
dynamics is a musical style used when volume levels switch abruptly from loud to soft and vise versa
without the use of a gradual crescendo, or decrescendo. In many phrases of this movement, the use of
sforzatos and accents help create the drastic effects. These dynamic changes are apparent throughout
the First Movement, and are often used to create a sense of contour, which engages the audience or
listeners in the emotions that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is another way that Vivaldi expresses pure emotion throughout his music using a Baroque
technique. Vivaldi s Second Movement in the A Minor Concerto is the shortest and slowest movement
out of the three. In order to capture the audiences attention and during this ludicrously slow
movement, he uses repetition of melody. The repetition of the melody or motive in the movement a
short phrase in which a rhythmic pattern is repeated four times, each time a chromatic change
happening to the notes. The chromatic changes add an element of surprise to the phrase, because you
are expecting to hear the same exact notes over again; but each time it is slightly

[unused38]on s Moral Sense, By Hutcheson And Shaftesbury
Hutcheson and Shaftesbury believed that human nature contained all it needed to make moral
decisions, along with inclinations to be moral. Moral sense is a kind of sense because, like external
senses, it is common to all mankind. It is independent of our will and its deliverances are not
conclusions mediated by premises. In particular it is not mediated by considerations of personal
advantage or harm. It is on account of this feature that we are able to admire actions that took place in
remote times and regions and even actions that are contrary to our own interests .
Moral philosophers say that the main contribution of Hutcheson to the concept of moral sense is that
he describes the working of moral sense. The process, Hutcheson described, ... Show more content on

Approbation of our own action is given when we are pleased with ourselves for doing the action
and/or pleased with our intentions for doing the action. Hutcheson puts it this way: Approbation of our
own action denotes, or is attended with, a pleasure in the contemplation of it, and in reflection upon
the affections which inclined us to it . Consider what happens when someone picks up and returns
something that another person drops. In response to the action, the person who picked up the dropped
item would have feelings of approbation toward his own action. This person would be happy with
what he did, especially after giving it some thought. Further, they would be pleased if their own
intentions were ones with which they could also be pleased. The intention could possibly be that they
just wanted to help this person; however, if the intention was to gain advantage with the other person,
then they would not be as pleased with themselves. Approbation of another s action is much the same
except that the observer is pleased to witness the action of the other person and feels affection toward
the agent of the action. Again Hutcheson writes: Approbation of the action of another has some little
pleasure in attending it in the observer, and raises love toward the agent, in whom the quality
approved is deemed to reside, and not in the observer, who has

The American Influence On Canada
For many decades, writers and authors have accused the American influence on Canada as one of the
reasons why Canada is losing its heritage, with one major aspect being the game of hockey. The
institutionalization of American Culture began to take root in Canada during the late 1920 s and 1930s
as technological advances, specifically the invention of the radio, allowed Canadians to enjoy
American entertainment. American stations were much more reliable than Canadian ones, causing
American sporting stations such as NBC and CBS to become extremely popular in Canada (Gruneau
et al, 1993). As Canada was becoming intertwined with the United States (U.S.), it was becoming less
of a satellite of Britain, which made it tremendously difficult for Canada s elite to protect British
ideals such as self improvement and participating in sport for the game s sake. (Gruneau et al, 1993).
In the early 1940 s, after the great depression forced many franchises to dismantle, the National
Hockey League (NHL) was left with six teams, which made up the famous original six. At this time,
America had a strong influence on the game, as four of the original six teams were based in the United
States, and all of the players in league were paid in American dollars (Gruneau et al, 1993). By the
early 1960 s, televised sports were emerging in North America, and NHL players were becoming
mainstream stars. Inspired by this, along with the threat of the NHL losing its television contract to the

World War I And The United Policy Of Strict Neutrality
On Sunday, 28 June 1914, at approximately 10:45 am, Franz Ferdinand and his wife were killed in
Sarajevo, the capital of the Austro Hungarian province of Bosnia and Herzegovina, by Gavrilo
Princip. The assassination of Ferdinand and his wife set off a chain of events that would lead to the
start of World War I. When the war began the United States proclaimed a united policy of strict
neutrality. After multiple U boat attacks that killed hundreds of American civilians and the
transmission of the Zimmerman Telegram , America declared war on Germany in 1917. In an address
before a joint meeting of Congress, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson discusses the aims of the United
States in World War I and outlines his famous Fourteen Points for achieving a lasting peace in Europe.
The Fourteen Points is a blueprint for world peace that was to be used for peace negotiations after
World War I, elucidated in a January 8, 1918, speech on war aims and peace terms by U.S. President
Woodrow Wilson. There are few speeches in history that influenced the world in the way Woodrow
Wilson s Fourteen Points speech did. As the leader of the free world, Wilson addressed a global
audience as he outlined the characteristics of an everlasting peace. His words were echoed in the
policies of every major Western power for the rest of the 20th century.
The Fourteen Points are a list of moral guidelines that were developed by Woodrow Wilson as a
response to the various causes of World War I. He declared

Goose Hollow Reflection
For my neighborhood study of Goose Hollow, I completed a research project to answer my research
question, What is day to day life like in Goose Hollow? . This paper will reveal the story of my data
through showing common themes between my research team s data to highlight noticeable
conclusions drawn from my research methodologies.
In analyzing my data, it is important to note my positionality. I am a nineteen year old female college
student living in a downtown area of a city. I identify as being middle class, Jewish, heterosexual, and
Latina. These key aspects of identity were important to take into consideration while collecting and
analyzing my data because it can affect interpretation. For my research in Goose Hollow specifically,
my social location as a middle class Latina was the most relevant. An awareness of the tensions
inherent in research, and reflection on these tensions is important (McAullffe and Coleman, 2008, pg.
26). Being aware of my social location and following the ethics and protocol necessary in a research
project, allowed me to be reflexive during my study.
When making conclusions about my data to determine the narrative, I looked at how every research
methodology contributed to the themes of my neighborhood. In the very act of constructing data out of
experience, the qualitative researcher singles out some things as worthy of note and relegates others to
the background (Wolcott, 1994, pg. 13). For the purpose of my paper, I chose to focus on two themes
but that does not discredit the rest of my data. The two themes that appeared in all the data shared
between my research team, were the ideas that Goose Hollow serves as an in between place for people
trying to get from point A to point B and the active gentrification present in the neighborhood. To
begin, I focused on participant observation methodology. The physical location and businesses of
Goose Hollow makes it a convenient place for people to stop. The grab and go pizza place, Starbucks,
corner store, and many modes of transportation make it a hub for commuters in their day to day life.
When analyzing my group s data, a considerable amount of instances relating to transportation were
observed. Ellen Koukel observed the MAX

I Am Waiting For The Concert
Sunday, May 29th 2016, 2:55PM: I am waiting for the concert to begin as I watch the musicians walk
onto the stage one by one, rehearsing a few notes on their instrument to warm up a bit and probably
test the pitch of the instrument. As more and more get up on the stage, the sound of them rehearsing
feel more and more chaotic, confusing and hard to follow, reminding me of Stravinski s work. All of
the sudden, they stop and start playing harmoniously a few notes thus inviting the conductor on the
stage the concert was about to start.
Before the main performance, there were two shorter pieces, Ibert s Bacchanale and Dusapin s
Outscape. In retrospec,t both were wonderful choices as a prelude to Holst s The Planets as I felt the
three pieces fit well together when put back to back and they even inspired to me an overarching
message.
Jacques Ibert s Bacchanale was composed in 1956, only 6 years before it s author s death. Unlike his
previous compositions which were marked by the tension and turmoil of the interwar period and
World War 2, Bacchanale is the culmination of his rather wild and hard to pigeonhole style. The title
evokes the Roman festival bearing the same name, a tribute to the wine god Bacchus. Bacchanalia
were notorious for the excessive drinking, dancing and performing for as long as the participants
could remain standing and they were living proof of the carefree lifestyle Romans could afford to
have.
The composition itself mirrors this style, having as a

Goneril was the initial influence to why Regan restored honor through the acts she committed. Regan
never inquired lies Goneril told her against their father. This initially portrayed Regan to be less
wicked than Goneril. However, since both sisters decided to form an alliance when Goneril says, let s
hit together , Regan s consistency against Lear increased, resulting with Goneril controlling Regan s
mind with misinterpretations about their father and his knights. This results in the first honor act, in
which Regan kicks her father out of the house and into the dreadful storm. She orders her husband,

As the play progressed, the cruelty of her actions increased. Her selfish desires resulted in her losing
the little sympathy she had for her father. Furthermore, her arrogance prevented her from accepting
others feeling a sense of compassion and sympathy for her father. When she was alerted about
Gloucester keeping contact with her father, she taunted saying, let him smell his way to Dover . She
referred to her vile intention of making Gloucester blind. Through the help of Goneril, they agree to
the cruel idea of yanking his eyeballs out. They assured themselves that these horrific actions would
ease the struggle they were dealing with in order to attain the honor they desired. The brutality of
Regan s thoughts and intentions increased as the play progressed. Rather than feeling guilt and having
shame for the sin she committed, she has guilt for committing a worse of an act. This triggered her to
continue the wrongdoing because there was no innocence in her heart. In the play, she says, Faith, he

Sigmund Freud s Psychodynamic Approach
The Psychodynamic Model, developed by Sigmund Freud, views the cause of mental disorders as the
result of childhood trauma, anxieties, and unconscious conflicts. According to Freud, human behavior
tends to express instinctual drives that function at the unconscious level. These instinctual drives can
be afflicted with sexual or aggressive impulses and any threatening experiences that we block from
our consciousness which results in emotional symptoms.
The psychodynamic model consists of several different aspects to help explain human personality and
why people engage with instinctual drives. One aspect of the model is the three personality
components, the id, the ego and the superego, conveying that all behavior is a product of interaction.
The id is found at the unconscious level and influenced by the pleasure principle while the ego is
viewed as the realistic and rational part of the mind. The superego is part of the conscience, therefore,
it discourages people from engaging in immoral and unethical behaviors. Fred also suggested that the
development of human personality is drastically affected by early childhood experiences which can be
found in five psychosexual stages: the oral, anal, phallic, latency and genital. Another approach that
the psychodynamic model uses is defense mechanisms which help ... Show more content on

Racial Discrimination Past, Present, And Future
Racial Discrimination Past, Present, and Future
Civil rights activist Al Sharpton said, We have come a long way from the days of slavery, but in 2014,
discrimination and inequality still saturate our society in modern ways . This quote rings true where
equality in the workplace is concerned. In Toni Cade Bambara s short story The Lesson , we see what
social discrimination looks like through the eyes of children who are observing a wealthier part of
town. In their eyes, they see and injustice and question why it is not being altered into something
centered more on equality and equal opportunity. Toni Cade Bambara s story The Lesson is written to
make a point about racial discrimination in the workplace and social inequality.
In Bambara s short story, we are told the tale of several kids who are being taken for a day out by Miss
Moore, a woman in their neighborhood. Along the way, she gives them lessons about how to handle
money and to pay fairly. She also teaches them that just by saving, they can eventually get what they
want. While she talks away, the kids observe their surroundings. They feel out of place in the wealthy
neighborhood that Miss Moore has brought them to in the story. Something that helped show there
was judgment and a feeling of uneasiness, was when one of the children stated, But what I got to be
shamed about? Got as much right to go in as anybody (Bambara). This was said when they were
walking into the toy store. The children could sense hate or

Police Subculture Analysis
I. Question I have been assigned to define the concept of police subculture and the role it plays in
police relations with African Americans, and to describe the six subculture perspectives of police
officers as they are presented in the text, and to discuss whether I believe those perspectives are still
valid today.
II. Answer In his article, Strecher describes the police subculture, as when police officers are working
together, they often develop the same set of values, customs, and artifacts that regulate how members
behave and which establish the boundaries of appropriateness, and can also be determined by what
ethnic group one belongs to (Strecher, 1971, P.224). For instance, according to Strecher, there are
large groups of police officers that work primarily within subcultures, with African Americans,
Hispanics, Native Americans, Asian, Jewish, etc. (Strecher, 1971, P.224). With regard to police
relations with African Americans and how the police subculture influences this relationship, Strecher

Basel Norms
Evolution of Basel Norms and their contribution to the Subprime Crisis
The article highlights the emergence of the Basel Accord in 1998 and how it has evolved over the
course of the last 23 years. Contrary to the popular belief capital regulations have been considered the
biggest underlying factor of the subprime crisis owing to securitization, the shadow banking system
and the flexibility given to banks in risk assessment. The recent Basel III norms though aim to
mitigate the already caused damage, the results are still left to be witnessed.

The Basel Capital Accord (Basel I) was adopted in 1988, and had two main objectives; * Strengthen
the soundness and the stability of the international banking system minimum capital adequacy ratio by
assessing the credit risk of the banks * Create a level playing field among international banks Banks
from different countries competing for the same loans would have to set aside roughly the same
amount of capital on the loans
Fallout of Basel I and emergence of Basel II
Basel I set the platform for maintaining the adequate capital cushion required by the banks in the event
of a default or grim situations. However the adequate capital (Tier I amp; Tier II) to be maintained was
solely based on the credit risk (on balance sheet, trading off balance sheet, non trading balance sheet)
assessment which was divided into 4 categories of Government Exposures with OECD countries 0%,
OECD banks and non OECD governments 20%, Mortgages 50%, Other Exposures, retail and
wholesale(SMEs) 100%
Though the main aim of formulating the Basel Norms was to ensure the optimal capital cushion to be
maintained required in the event of a crisis, the very introduction of Basel Accord, increased the gap
between economical and risk based capital and gave rise to regulatory capital arbitrage (RCB). The
drawback that a loan to a safe industrial country and that to a volatile developing country

United States Judicial System
The Judicial system in the United States is a system that provides Courts with the power and authority
to administer justice, though that justice must be within the bounds of the law. As some laws in the
U.S. tend to be ambiguous, or lacking in specific direction as applied to a particular case, the Court
system is also responsible for interpreting the laws, and ensuring they are applied correctly on both the
state and federal levels.
While the Judicial system is not authorized by the U.S. Constitution to make laws, it applies the facts
of each case to the existing laws in order to reach a decision that ensures justice is served. In some
cases, the Court is required to make a decision about how a law should be applied to the particular

Hitler s Willing Executioners by Daniel Goldhagen
Not many historical works have achieved more success and have generated more heated debate than
Daniel Goldhagen s book Hitler s Willing Executioners. Goldhagen s thesis relies on the idea that
since medieval times, a specific kind of eliminationist anti Semitism had developed in Germany.
According to Goldhagen, the German population was already open to the idea of eliminating the Jews.
He also claims that when Hitler came to Power in 1933, rather than slowly convincing the Germans to
commit mass murder, he merely gave them the opportunity to do what they have wanted to do for
years. Goldhagen also inflated the number of people involved, suggesting that hundreds of thousands
were participating in the killing and that millions more would have willingly joined in, given the
opportunity. Despite the rejection of the book by many German and non German historians, the
German version of the book, published in August 1996, sold very well. Eighty thousand copies of the
German edition sold in the first month of the book s release. By the time of Goldhagen s tour in
September, three thousand copies were being sold every single day. Facts like these show how
important communication is with the public. Hitler s Willing Executioners was successful in Germany
because of the accessibility of the book to the German population, the social context in which the
book was produced, and the powerful marketing campaign that preceded the book itself.

people, I just really enjoy spending time with myself. I know a lot of people, but I only have two or

rather go out and do something with one or two friends, rather than a large group. I enjoy having the

friendships that come and go.
I take a lot of pride in the work that I do. It doesn t matter what I m doing, it could be playing video

Compare And Contrast The Behavioural Approach In Psychology
Behaviour approach in psychology
Psychology is the scientific study of human and animal behaviour. There are many approaches to
psychology, which give an insight and they all support one way or another their theories. They explain
the human behaviour based on different circumstances which is not sufficient for someone to explain
all aspects of human behaviour. In this essay I shall discuss what behavioural approach is, what it s
strengths and weaknesses are, than compare it to the biological approach to look at how they examine
depression. The behaviourists believe that behaviour changes is due to the persons respond to an event
in the environment they are in. In contrast psychoanalysts like Sigmund Freud believe that the human
behaviour is totally based on the internal conflict of the unconscious mind.
Behaviourism started as a type of research psychology and for a long time that was how it was seen.
For the best part of the begging of the early 20th century, the behaviourists were just scientists that
were working in high education institutes on psychological research problems. To the behaviourist,
human behaviour has not got anything to do with the inner unconscious conflicts, restraining, or issues
with object representation. To be a little more exact, a behavioural psychologist uses the concept of
learning theory to explain human behaviour. According to behavioural theory, unhelpful or
dysfunctional behaviour such as depression is it learned. Because depression is

Ancient Greece s Influence On Western Civilization
Much can be said about the Greeks and their contribution to Western Civilization greatly and how they
paved the way. The Greeks subsidized Western Civilization greatly, contributing areas of architecture,
government, and many more. The Greeks built the Parthenon, a temple dedicated the infamous
goddess Athena, who they viewed as there patron. The famous temple has columns and groundwork
that characterizes Greek architecture. The architects were concerned with conducting a sense of
perfect balance to reflect cooperation and order in the universe. They were the first to think of the idea
of democracy, a system in which people govern themselves rather than being ruled by a king; they
also valued beauty and imagination. The civilization of ancient Greece blossomed for more than 2,500
years ago but the ideas of the ancient Greeks continue to influence the way we live today. People of
ancient Greece seeked to explain the world through the laws of nature. Greece produced many
magnificent achievements in areas of science, philosophy arts and government that still influence our
lives. Ancient Greek philosophy focused on the role of reason and inquiry. It had a meaningful
influence on latest philosophy, as well as science. The impact from ancient Greek and Hellenistic
philosophers was expanded to medieval Muslim philosophers and scientists, to the European

The Triumph of the Bolsheviks Essay
The Triumph of the Bolsheviks
In order to gain total control of the Soviet State, Lenin and the Bolsheviks made commitments to
several acts, which, by far, did not please most of their political opponents. They mistreated various
soviet members, made allies which the main population of Russia were discontent with, lacked
support because of their unfair participation in elections and were responsible for many economic
declines. This led to many arduous problems in which the Bolsheviks had to go through great
triumphs in order to overcome them. Despite their success, they went through great struggle because
of their somewhat obstinate yet determined behavior.

At the same time, Lenin had to face the World War and Russia s collapsing economy; the peasants
who wanted the land; establishing a communist state; and the general election for a new parliament to

for Lenin and the Bolsheviks to establish a communist society.
The Bolsheviks really lacked majority support in the country as a whole. So the question at this time
was, how they were to keep themselves in power, and yet still allow free elections. One of Lenin s first
orders was nationalizing all land in order for it to be redistributed to all the peasants. This was done in
hope of gaining their favour. Lenin was obligated to allow these elections so that he wouldn t appear
to be contradictive to his opposing views to Kerensky when he postponed the elections. However, he
realized that the Bolshevik Majority in the Constituent Assembly was highly unlikely. Anyhow, he

Cryptosporidium Parvum: Transmission and Infection
Cryptosporidium parvum is a protozoan intestinal parasite causing a short term enteric illness in
individuals with functioning immune systems, and can cause a potentially fatal infection in
immunosuppressed individuals. Because of C. parvum s resistance to many of the procedures used to
process drinking water and food, and the parasite s extremely high fecundity, the potential for a large
scale outbreak is very high. In fact, C. parvum was responsible for an outbreak in Milwaukee in 1993
when an estimated 403,000 people became ill. This was the largest waterborne outbreak of disease in
United States history. This paper will cover some aspects of C. parvum s life cycle, human sickness ...

The infective dose may be as little as one oocyst, and severe diarrhea can occur, causing the individual
to pass up to 20 liters of fluid in one 24 hour period (Donnelly amp; Stentiford, 1997). This inevitably
leads to death.
Transmission of the parasite can occur in several different ways. Direct transmission can occur by
handling infected animal or human feces. One quarter of reported direct transmission infections
occurred by direct contact with feces, while the rest were reported to have happened by person to
person contact (Donnelly amp; Stentiford, 1997).
Person to person transmission can occur through poor hygiene habits or by handling human waste.
Daycares and nursing homes are at a high risk for person to person transmission because of the high
risk of handling infected feces. Family outbreaks are common, as are outbreaks among children at
nurseries (Donnelly amp; Stentiford, 1997).
Indirect transmission by the water or foodborne route is one of the most common ways C. parvum is
spread. Because of the oocyst s resistance to chlorination, several outbreaks have been caused by
waterborne transmission. In one study (Carpenter et al.), oocysts were removed from the feces of an
experimentally infected calf, cleaned of fecal matter, and placed into different amounts of chlorinated
water at different temperatures. Although this experiment had been performed before, this was

Critically Evaluate How the Original Special K Brand Could...
Kellogg s is the world s leading producer of cereal products and convenience foods with annual sales
of more than £4.5 million. Its products are manufactured in 19 countries worldwide and sold in more
than 180 countries.
Special K is one of the well established brands among Kellogg s brand category and was viewed as a
stand alone product. But, Kellogg s had not created any variants or brand extensions to develop the
core product. Kellogg s recognised that it s time to stretch the brand to not only keep original core
product, Special K, strong but also grow the brand as a whole. They did a lot on marketing research,
tasty research and quantitative research before they launched Special K cereal and Special K bars.
Soon Kellogg s came to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These psychological aspects would affect customers behaviour when they choose cereal products, a
loyal customer of Special K would not reject Special K extensions and normally they would like to try
the new flavour of their favourite brand.
Negative effect in short term
Generally speaking original Special K positively affected Special K cereal and Special K bars, but it
also showed negative effect, and the negative effect from original Special K was more obvious on
Special K bars than on Special K cereal.
Special K bars was designed as a healthy snack, and the target customers are both users and non users
of existing Special K. However, the brand as Special K that is usually equivalent to healthy breakfast
may be the first impression in customers mind, which could have affected the sale of Special K bars at
the beginning.

watch their weight and keep fit seek a range of solution throughout the day, but not just at breakfast. In
addition, it is women who do the most of family shopping and care for the whole family s healthy
eating. In fact this is a good opportunity to grow brand scope.
By the support of promotions like TV advertising, free trying, the existing Special K customers would
break the opinion that Special K only service healthy breakfast, and realise that it applies healthy

Research Paper On Bach Flower Therapy
Research paper on: Bach Flower Therapy.

TMAS 101 Fall 2017 Holistic Approach To Wellness
Debra Hockemeyer
10/31/2017
Bach Flower Therapy I have suffered with depression, anxiety, and overall bad images of myself,
throughout my entire life. I have never really looked out for medical help, other than searching online.
Though I never found the Bach Flower Therapy by my mild researching online, I am glad I get to
research it now after tragic things have happened to my life. If I applied these techniques into my life,
it would for sure help me pass through the tough times. This paper will go through the way Dr. Bach
searched and created these remedies, what some 12 healers are, and their benefits with ... Show more

He was able to conclude that vaccine therapy had more in common with homeopathy than with
allopathic medicine. Dr. Bach searched and found that flowers had the same vibrations the bacteria
had. He saw the psychic components in physical illness. This helped him understand that each
different flower went with a certain type of mental state. And from his practice he had noticed that
with each personality, a specific illness would appear to the person. Thus, setting out in England to
find the flowers that would help the different people and their problems. He found that flowers had
their highest healing ability in full bloom around midday. With his knowledge of applying hypothesis
to patients, he was able to create the first 12 tinctures. Bach matched the properties of the plants to the
emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions of healing. After living with a disease and searching for
therapeutic flowers, Dr. Bach died in his sleep on November 27, 1936. He had left his assistant Nora
Weeks and Victor Bullen as his successors and they continued this work until 1987, when they passed
it on to a later generation.
Dr. Bach would pick the flowers fresh each morning, when they were still wet, and placed them in a
bowl filled with fresh spring water and let them sit in the direct sunlight for a few hours. There is no
need to harm the plant, for the flower has the soul s information, thus it is harvested just before the

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Squid And Octopus Kiera L. Bethel Mr. Taulbee English 2 20 December 2016 Squids vs. Octopus The ocean animals I am going to compare are octopus and squid. I am comparing these two things because they are unique ocean creatures. I think that it is interesting how they both catch their prey, and how they live. It is also really interesting to learn what they eat and how they do things. The first thing I am comparing is an octopus to a squid. An octopus has 8 tentacles, and uses all of them to catch their prey. They live in dens on the seafloor. Octopus lose their outer shell and get a new one back. They also have a round head. Octopus lifespan is 3 5 years. It has two eyes and four pairs of arms, and like other cephalopods, it is bilaterally symmetric. It has a beak, with its mouth at the center point of the arms. They feed mainly on worms, crabs, whelks and clams. The giant Pacific octopus feeds on shrimp, clams, lobsters, and fish, and even larger prey, such as sharks and birds. It has a beak, with its mouth at the center points of the arms. Octopuses are ocean creatures that are most famous for having eight arms and bulbous heads. They squirt ink to deter predators; and being boneless, they can squeeze into (or out of) tight spaces. The water depth in which they live ranges from the shallow, coastal waters to about about 330 feet deep. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Parking Restrictions For A Condominium What every Condominium Association needs to know about Parking Restrictions The enforcement of parking restrictions is one of the most problems that condominium associations and property managers are forced to deal with. Secondhand smoke is a mixture of the smoke from the burning end of a cigarette, pipe or cigar combined with the smoke breathed out by a smoker. • 8. What Is The Mood Of Vivaldi s Concerto In A Minor First... Antonio Vivaldi was a 17th and 18th century world renowned classical composer. He is well known for composing many pieces in his lifetime, one of his most notable pieces being The Four Seasons. Being a composer in the 17th and 18th centuries, he was composing in the midst of the baroque era. In the Concerto in A Minor, he utilizes the popular techniques to effectively engage the audience in the intense and bizarre feelings that come from listening. The intent of this time period was to use drastic dynamic changes, apparent contrast between soloists and orchestra parts, and recurring melodies to effectively evoke emotional responses from the audience. In Vivaldi s Concerto in A Minor First Movement, terraced dynamics are used throughout. Terraced dynamics is a musical style used when volume levels switch abruptly from loud to soft and vise versa without the use of a gradual crescendo, or decrescendo. In many phrases of this movement, the use of sforzatos and accents help create the drastic effects. These dynamic changes are apparent throughout the First Movement, and are often used to create a sense of contour, which engages the audience or listeners in the emotions that ... • 9. [unused38]on s Moral Sense, By Hutcheson And Shaftesbury Hutcheson and Shaftesbury believed that human nature contained all it needed to make moral decisions, along with inclinations to be moral. Moral sense is a kind of sense because, like external senses, it is common to all mankind. It is independent of our will and its deliverances are not conclusions mediated by premises. In particular it is not mediated by considerations of personal advantage or harm. It is on account of this feature that we are able to admire actions that took place in remote times and regions and even actions that are contrary to our own interests . Moral philosophers say that the main contribution of Hutcheson to the concept of moral sense is that he describes the working of moral sense. The process, Hutcheson described, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Approbation of our own action is given when we are pleased with ourselves for doing the action and/or pleased with our intentions for doing the action. Hutcheson puts it this way: Approbation of our own action denotes, or is attended with, a pleasure in the contemplation of it, and in reflection upon the affections which inclined us to it . Consider what happens when someone picks up and returns something that another person drops. In response to the action, the person who picked up the dropped item would have feelings of approbation toward his own action. This person would be happy with what he did, especially after giving it some thought. Further, they would be pleased if their own intentions were ones with which they could also be pleased. The intention could possibly be that they just wanted to help this person; however, if the intention was to gain advantage with the other person, then they would not be as pleased with themselves. Approbation of another s action is much the same except that the observer is pleased to witness the action of the other person and feels affection toward the agent of the action. Again Hutcheson writes: Approbation of the action of another has some little pleasure in attending it in the observer, and raises love toward the agent, in whom the quality approved is deemed to reside, and not in the observer, who has ... • 10. The American Influence On Canada For many decades, writers and authors have accused the American influence on Canada as one of the reasons why Canada is losing its heritage, with one major aspect being the game of hockey. The institutionalization of American Culture began to take root in Canada during the late 1920 s and 1930s as technological advances, specifically the invention of the radio, allowed Canadians to enjoy American entertainment. American stations were much more reliable than Canadian ones, causing American sporting stations such as NBC and CBS to become extremely popular in Canada (Gruneau et al, 1993). As Canada was becoming intertwined with the United States (U.S.), it was becoming less of a satellite of Britain, which made it tremendously difficult for Canada s elite to protect British ideals such as self improvement and participating in sport for the game s sake. (Gruneau et al, 1993). In the early 1940 s, after the great depression forced many franchises to dismantle, the National Hockey League (NHL) was left with six teams, which made up the famous original six. At this time, America had a strong influence on the game, as four of the original six teams were based in the United States, and all of the players in league were paid in American dollars (Gruneau et al, 1993). By the early 1960 s, televised sports were emerging in North America, and NHL players were becoming mainstream stars. The assassination of Ferdinand and his wife set off a chain of events that would lead to the start of World War I. When the war began the United States proclaimed a united policy of strict neutrality. After multiple U boat attacks that killed hundreds of American civilians and the transmission of the Zimmerman Telegram , America declared war on Germany in 1917. In an address before a joint meeting of Congress, U.S. President Woodrow Wilson discusses the aims of the United States in World War I and outlines his famous Fourteen Points for achieving a lasting peace in Europe. The Fourteen Points is a blueprint for world peace that was to be used for peace negotiations after World War I, elucidated in a January 8, 1918, speech on war aims and peace terms by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson. There are few speeches in history that influenced the world in the way Woodrow Wilson s Fourteen Points speech did. • 12. Goose Hollow Reflection For my neighborhood study of Goose Hollow, I completed a research project to answer my research question, What is day to day life like in Goose Hollow? . This paper will reveal the story of my data through showing common themes between my research team s data to highlight noticeable conclusions drawn from my research methodologies. In analyzing my data, it is important to note my positionality. I am a nineteen year old female college student living in a downtown area of a city. I identify as being middle class, Jewish, heterosexual, and Latina. These key aspects of identity were important to take into consideration while collecting and analyzing my data because it can affect interpretation. For my research in Goose Hollow specifically, my social location as a middle class Latina was the most relevant. An awareness of the tensions inherent in research, and reflection on these tensions is important (McAullffe and Coleman, 2008, pg. 26). Being aware of my social location and following the ethics and protocol necessary in a research project, allowed me to be reflexive during my study. When making conclusions about my data to determine the narrative, I looked at how every research methodology contributed to the themes of my neighborhood. In the very act of constructing data out of experience, the qualitative researcher singles out some things as worthy of note and relegates others to the background (Wolcott, 1994, pg. 13). For the purpose of my paper, I chose to focus on two themes but that does not discredit the rest of my data. The two themes that appeared in all the data shared between my research team, were the ideas that Goose Hollow serves as an in between place for people trying to get from point A to point B and the active gentrification present in the neighborhood. To begin, I focused on participant observation methodology. The physical location and businesses of Goose Hollow makes it a convenient place for people to stop. I Am Waiting For The Concert Sunday, May 29th 2016, 2:55PM: I am waiting for the concert to begin as I watch the musicians walk onto the stage one by one, rehearsing a few notes on their instrument to warm up a bit and probably test the pitch of the instrument. As more and more get up on the stage, the sound of them rehearsing feel more and more chaotic, confusing and hard to follow, reminding me of Stravinski s work. All of the sudden, they stop and start playing harmoniously a few notes thus inviting the conductor on the stage the concert was about to start. Before the main performance, there were two shorter pieces, Ibert s Bacchanale and Dusapin s Outscape. In retrospec,t both were wonderful choices as a prelude to Holst s The Planets as I felt the three pieces fit well together when put back to back and they even inspired to me an overarching message. Jacques Ibert s Bacchanale was composed in 1956, only 6 years before it s author s death. Unlike his previous compositions which were marked by the tension and turmoil of the interwar period and World War 2, Bacchanale is the culmination of his rather wild and hard to pigeonhole style. The title evokes the Roman festival bearing the same name, a tribute to the wine god Bacchus. Bacchanalia were notorious for the excessive drinking, dancing and performing for as long as the participants could remain standing and they were living proof of the carefree lifestyle Romans could afford to have. The composition itself mirrors this style, having as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Sigmund Freud s Psychodynamic Approach The Psychodynamic Model, developed by Sigmund Freud, views the cause of mental disorders as the result of childhood trauma, anxieties, and unconscious conflicts. According to Freud, human behavior tends to express instinctual drives that function at the unconscious level. These instinctual drives can be afflicted with sexual or aggressive impulses and any threatening experiences that we block from our consciousness which results in emotional symptoms. The psychodynamic model consists of several different aspects to help explain human personality and why people engage with instinctual drives. One aspect of the model is the three personality components, the id, the ego and the superego, conveying that all behavior is a product of interaction. The id is found at the unconscious level and influenced by the pleasure principle while the ego is viewed as the realistic and rational part of the mind. The superego is part of the conscience, therefore, it discourages people from engaging in immoral and unethical behaviors. Fred also suggested that the development of human personality is drastically affected by early childhood experiences which can be found in five psychosexual stages: the oral, anal, phallic, latency and genital. • 25. Hitler s Willing Executioners by Daniel Goldhagen Not many historical works have achieved more success and have generated more heated debate than Daniel Goldhagen s book Hitler s Willing Executioners. Goldhagen s thesis relies on the idea that since medieval times, a specific kind of eliminationist anti Semitism had developed in Germany. According to Goldhagen, the German population was already open to the idea of eliminating the Jews. He also claims that when Hitler came to Power in 1933, rather than slowly convincing the Germans to commit mass murder, he merely gave them the opportunity to do what they have wanted to do for years. Goldhagen also inflated the number of people involved, suggesting that hundreds of thousands were participating in the killing and that millions more would have willingly joined in, given the opportunity. Despite the rejection of the book by many German and non German historians, the German version of the book, published in August 1996, sold very well. Eighty thousand copies of the German edition sold in the first month of the book s release. By the time of Goldhagen s tour in September, three thousand copies were being sold every single day. Facts like these show how important communication is with the public. Hitler s Willing Executioners was successful in Germany because of the accessibility of the book to the German population, the social context in which the book was produced, and the powerful marketing campaign that preceded the book itself. For the best part of the begging of the early 20th century, the behaviourists were just scientists that were working in high education institutes on psychological research problems. To the behaviourist, human behaviour has not got anything to do with the inner unconscious conflicts, restraining, or issues with object representation. One of Lenin s first orders was nationalizing all land in order for it to be redistributed to all the peasants. This was done in hope of gaining their favour. One quarter of reported direct transmission infections occurred by direct contact with feces, while the rest were reported to have happened by person to person contact (Donnelly amp; Stentiford, 1997). Person to person transmission can occur through poor hygiene habits or by handling human waste.
