Dienophile, N-Methylmaleimide
For this study, each group had the same dienophile, N methylmaleimide, but different dienes,
anthracene 9 methanol or anthracene 9 carboxaldehyde. Initial reaction conducted with anthracene 9
methanol and N methylmaleimide was successful in generating a generous amount of product;
however, due to errors performed during the purification method by recrystallization, some product
was lost, thereby resulting in a low yield. Upon completion of the reaction, the Diels Alder adduct was
subjected to analysis by NMR spectroscopy, specifically, Proton NMR. The percent yield of this
reaction was expected to be high, however, the reaction yielded a percent yield of 4.88%, which is
significantly low. Typically, a low percent yield is an indication of an inefficient reaction; however, in
this case, this cannot be concluded due to errors that occurred during the reaction. Theoretically,
dienophiles and dienes can have different electron donating and electron withdrawing substituents,
thereby changing either can impact the percent yield of the reaction. An electron donating substituents
on the diene will increase the percent yield as the chances of the reaction occurring is increased with
the increase in the number of electron donating groups. The Reverse is true for dienophiles, as an
increase in the number of electron withdrawing groups with lower the energy in the ... Show more

Gallo Winery
CSU Stanislaus E J Gallo Winery Plant Tour paper Stephan Jimenez Professor Kidd OM 3010 2013
October, 14 E J Gallo Winery Plant Tour paper The Gallo Winery plant tour was an awesome
experience for me. I have always been curious about how a product was made from start to finish, and
after the Gallo tour I have many questions answered. In this paper you will learn many different things
about how a production plant runs and what they continually do to make improvements in all aspects
of their business. Some focal points of this paper will be on the Gallo Winery operational strategy,
what type of processes are utilized in the plant, and whether this company uses a lean production
process or not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next step in the process is called the rinser, where the bottles are then inverted and rinsed to wash
away contaminants most importantly any excess pieces of glass. Then the bottles are moved to the
eight different types of fillers that Gallo uses, the fill height is either adjustable or depends on the
pressure of the wine in the surge tank. Once the bottles are filled with the selected product, they are
then fed from a hopper upstairs in FW to be corked or capped. After being closed and completely
sealed, the products is transformed to the Labeller machine which either uses cold glue or pressure
labels. The labels are either spliced or continuous, with the front label pressured on and the back label
is put on with cold glue. Once all other steps are completed the final process that Gallo uses is the
packing step which all bottles are placed into the box, and the box is glued and closed mechanically.
Some lines use a Palletizer machine which is a device that is used to stack factory goods and products
on to a pallet. To make sure everything runs smoothly and on time Gallo has a good support system to
help them continually moving forward. It starts with the Production Engineer that has the task of
making sure everything is running sufficiently. There is a section called Training and Technology
Integration, which manages the staffing and skills development of all operational employees. Then

American Politician And Political Philosopher, John C....
John C. Calhoun was an American politician and political theorist from South Carolina during the first
half of the 19th century. His ideas about states rights and limited government led the state and region
towards session from the union infighting the civil war. John Caldwell Calhoun was born March 18th
1782 in the Abbeville district which is now known as McCormick County. Calhoun was the fourth
child to Patrick Calhoun and his wife Martha Caldwell. At the age of seventeen when Calhoun s father
became sick he quit school and began working on the family farm. With financial help from his
brother he was able to eventually get the chance to begin attending school again. He attended both
common and private schools and he eventually studied law

African Americans And African American Community
As seen through time, African Americans have been at a disadvantage when it comes to accessing
funds that are available to most people. This however has not stopped them from creating and
accessing help that supports and aids their families. Through communal efforts, African Americans
have been able to create mutual aid for themselves. In these communities, there are many sectors that
have been built, but the main reason many are making it or able to afford and do what they are
currently doing is through the help of the various communities and organizations that came about.
Throughout each decade there have been forms of aid created solely for African Americans. Before
slavery, when African Americans were still in Africa, the communities were thriving economically and
socially. Africa produced a plethora of advanced civilizations. Although Europeans like to credit
themselves for the spread of Christianity, Christianity was in Ethiopia long before the Europeans
came. As one can see through time, church is an important communal and distinctive quality of the
African American community. In his book, West African Religion: A Study of the Beliefs and
Practices of Akan, Ewe, Yoruba, Ibo, and Kindred Peoples, Geoffrey Parrinder explains, Africa had a
history, long before the Europeans came to our shores... Religion is a fundamental, perhaps the most
important, influence in the life of most Africans (Parrinder 1). African Americans already had the
support system of a church

The Disadvantages Of Small Farming In The United States
Food that are high in sugar and fat are, in many ways addictive Nadine Burke. Framers depend on the
outcome of the products because that s what helps them provide for their families. There are many
disadvantage of the small farms decreasing in the United States in our modern time.
Small farms has difficulty selling their products to bigger food companies. For example, supermarket
chain like Whole Foods or Walmart are not set up to do business with dozen of small family owned
farms (41). In other words, small farms are loosing money because their product are not getting sold.
Unlike larger farms they get contracted because it doesn t cost as much than a small family owned
farm. In fact, this is a reason why small farms moves to the city because they produce their products
and make more money. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Bigger tractors and machines, chemical weed killers, and artificial fertilizer made it
easier for one farmer to handle (39). This makes it easier for farmers to work with less people and
have less expenses to make money. Another example is, It only takes a few weeks of work over a year
to raise five hundred acres of industrial corn. So the farms have gotten bigger, but fewer people live in
them (39). In other words, this helps farmers produce their product faster and with the help of fewer
people, which means farmers don t have to worry about feeding more people. Although, this might
help them, but the government still has subsidized the corn price and the products

Investigating The Osmotic Regulation On The Kidney
The purpose of the experiment is to test the fluid balance in the body, by studying the osmotic
regulation in the kidney (Manuguid, et al., 2015) Also, test the changes in urine pH, urine flow rate
and specific density among non drinking and drinking groups.
The main purpose of avoiding food and drink prior to the lab was to eliminate the effects that could
occur in the class data, reduce the amount of error and to get a fair result by having everyone start at
the same time. If each student did not monitor or follow the correct procedure, this would have
affected the result by having a lot differences in the rate of urine flow, urine density and the pH level.
Therefore, we wouldn t have an accurate results to make any kind of conclusion out of it and we will
have a result in a wide range. All the groups drank according to their weight and this affected the
result in terms of their osmolarity, hormone secretion, and urine flow rate because all the groups
ingested different amount of the drinks. Based on the result from table 1, the physiological state of the
subjects at T0 was negative for blood, ketone, glucose and protein. In figures 1 4, all of the subjects
pH level was about 6; urine volume rate and urine voided is about the same amount for all the groups.
There were changes in the variables between T0 and T30 because at T0, we started with no drinks and
we saw that the non drinking group and drinking groups had about the same level of the urine flow
rate at T=0. At

Examples Of Sympathizing In Frankenstein
As humans we have a tendency to choose the perfect balance between the two options we are given.
Therefore, when we are ultimately given the right to choose between sympathizing with Victor or his
creature, we try to sympathize with the two equally. That s just being human; we cannot decide who
gets to have more of our attention. However, if I had to choose between the two, I would perhaps
sympathize with the creature more. I empathize the creature for specific reasons that range from the
way he is perceived; to the way the population and his creator handle him amongst others. Victor
Frankenstein had a glorious childhood brought by well praised, loving parents, whom were possessed
by the very spirit of kindness and indulgence. His parents treated Victor fairly; tendering him
whenever he needed, allowing him to acquire great knowledge, and being his helping hand, or a push
towards success, when he desired. Victor s life seemed to tick off all those boxes; meanwhile, the
creature s didn t. Frankenstein, the creature s only so called family , had degraded the Being .
Belittling his creation, Frankenstein congregated the creature in a grotesque manner with: yellow eyes
and a giant frame, which brings me to my subsequent point. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I do not commiserate with the creature when he aids the family, but when the family condemn and
neglect him due to the way he is designed. We see, in a world dominated by humans, Frankenstein
creates an outcast that has no way of surviving a place where the majority of the population is
judgmental, scathing, and fault finding. Although he tries to fit in, despite the way Frankenstein
structured him, he is still pushed back to the

Low-Fiber Diets
Introduction
Fiber is found in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. A low fiber diet restricts fibrous foods that are
not digested in the small intestine. A diet is considered to be low fiber if it contains about 10 15 grams
of fiber a day. In general, a low fiber food will have fewer than 2 grams of fiber per serving. Low fiber
diets may be used to:
Promote healing and rest the bowel during intestinal flare ups.
Prevent blockage of a partially blocked or narrowed gastrointestinal tract.
Reduce fecal weight and volume.
Slow bowel movements.
You may be on a low fiber diet as a transitional diet following surgery, after an injury, or because of a

Belonging
Belonging is the relationship between an individual and his society, idealistically of one being in
harmony with their surrounding peers and therefore becoming accepted no matter what attributes they
possess. Belonging is an intrinsic need, it is a complex and variable state and in the end brings some
form of happiness to an individual. The film, Strictly Ballroom , produced by Baz Luhrman, focuses
upon the individual Scott who possesses the skills to win but defies the rules of the ballroom world by
adding unauthorised steps and by challenging the status quo. Similarly, The short story, A Straight Bat
, by Roger Holt, revolves around the individual Timothy whose individuality is suppressed by his
fathers expectations. The song, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As his father introduces to Timothy a cricket bat, Timothy s father sets the barriers of belonging
towards Timothy, who is attempting to develop his own identity. Timothy s disapproval and rejection
of the bat is highlighted in the short, sharp sentences and the negative connotations of the words stared
, hard and heavy in the quote, Timothy stared hard at the cricket bat. It looked heavy . The negative
description of the bat illustrates his objection towards the interest and values in which his father
expects him to abide by. This reinforces the negativity that a sense of individuality can be removed
and affected by the expectations of belonging imposed by those around us.
The negative conformist nature to conform is represented through the use of the bat , symbolising the
need to conform in order to feel accepted. The metaphor quoted within George s quote, Everyone must
have his own bat , emphasises that each person must follow their own path in order to develop their
own identity. We realise that complying by the expectations of society is the first step to acquiring
acceptance. The destroying of the violin, represents Timothy s individuality and the ability to grow, is
halted and depleted as the expectations of his father to play cricket, is of more priority to his son s
desire. Roger Holt s use of this, just like Strictly Ballroom , reinforces the effect of the negativity of
the forcefulness to conform by the

Americans Should Eat Healthy Foods Essay
Americans Should Eat Healthy Foods The overall health of the nation should concern every American
within the United States. The populous has acquired a bad habit of turning to convenience foods
because of availability, taste and comfort. Thus to re direct the health of the nation, people need to
stop crippling their health by convenience foods and replace it with healthy, natural choices, otherwise
the health of all will continue to decline. The body responds differently to food types, either healthy or
convenience, and determines the mood and daily productivity of an individual. According to Donald

individuals bodily health over time. Consuming more fruits, vegetables and healthy foods, will
increase the life expectancy of most individuals. According to Donald D. Hensrud of the Mayo Clinic
on Healthy Weight, Eating well choosing a plant based diet, which emphasizes vegetables, fruits and
whole grains also will reduce your risks of some of our nation s biggest killers and related conditions.
Many cancers, heart disease and high blood pressure, among other conditions, are linked to diet, most
notably to diets high in fat and saturated fat. Even without weight loss, adopting a healthier eating
style can be beneficial. (Hensrud 49) The majority of Americans give the argument that healthy food
takes up too much time. They state that they do not have enough time to prepare healthy meals with a
busy schedule, whereas convenience foods are easily squeezed into a day. This common
misconception often inhibits the populous from exerting any energy toward trying to accommodate a
healthier lifestyle. As Hensrud states, Cooking healthfully is not difficult to do, but it may involve
rethinking your approach. (Hensrud 49) Just a little prior preparation cuts time and effort in a tight
schedule and healthy foods generally taste much better than foods from the local convenience
restaurant. When going the healthy route, many choices

Teaching Is The Easiest Job
Teaching is one of the most well known careers known to man; it has existed for centuries and
probably has existed since the beginning of humanity. Thus, many may think it is very simple to get in
front of a group (class) and lecture about a certain topic. When in actuality it is not, it is very
complicated having to get up in front of a class especially if you re a shy person not used to the
concept of talking in front of a large group of people; I have faced a similar challenge, and steadily
overcoming the fears associated with teaching.
Over the summer I worked with students at a local school called Hanley International Academy, I
taught ladies that were older than me, and are ESL; I honestly thought it was the easiest job ever prior
to starting. However, I started to understand that teaching needs time and explaining within the time I
worked I took everything serious. Before beginning any teaching, I had to assist each student s ability
to understand English. Then, I started off with very simple assignments. When teaching ESL students
the first step is to explain what the alphabet, how much are letters are in the alphabets, and how to use
them. Then you have to teach them how to write them when they have understood how to read and
write then you must move on to the next concept. That doesn t mean to forget about it completely.
Next, you say the alphabets and let them read after you until they have pronounced it perfectly. Then
start with the next step I made

The Church of England is now under fire after a York Minster clergyman introduced Zen Buddhist
meditation into its church services.
The Zen Sangha group has been conducting 90 minute silent meditation sessions every other Friday
for the past two years. York dean Vivienne Faull sad the sessions were held to give Christians an
opportunity to explore the congruence of Zen Buddhism and the Christian faith, but the move drew
condemnation from evangelical Christians, The Guardian reports.
The meditation sessions, which are held at the Minster s Old Palace, are supported by Roman Catholic
priest and Zen master Fr. Patrick Kundo Eastman Roshi. The Zen meditations are listed under the

Ignorance Exposed In Prelude To War
Throughout time individuals have had a tendency to be ignorant and insensible of the world around
them. Whether they fail to notice a peers new haircut or that they are going to be alternating schools
people may not realize occurrences that are taking place, some to the degree of misperception,
hardship or tragedy. These conditions have taken place all throughout history, for instance the
Holocaust. During this horrific period in time, the citizens of Germany were blinded to what truly was
happening. Not only did this lead misunderstanding the conditions at hand, this led to millions of
separations, fatalities, and devastations. It is confirmed in the articles Prelude to War and Escape from
Auschwitz that although they obliviousness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As indicated previously, one way the citizen s ignorance was formed through propaganda. In section
Lowered Educational Standards of Prelude to War it states During this time, Hitler and his fellow Nazi
educators discouraged and prohibited children to think independently. This embodies how the youth
was taught propaganda as a fact with no room for discrimination or opinion. This leads to their
ignorance because they only understood the Nazi s perception of things causing them to believe and
value their way of thinking. Also, from countless lectures for students are lead to think the educators
word as fact and other ideas as propaganda when in reality they have been molded to think this way.
In the same way, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas expresses a theme of ignorance through two
characters who both come from different backgrounds but still convey the same naïve and oblivious
ways. One character a nine year old boy named Bruno has recently moved from his home in Berlin,
Germany to Auschwitz, Poland due to his father s new position in the Nazi party as a commandment.
He soon later encounters the second character Shmuel who is a Jewish boy the same age as him

Idealism In Don Quixote
Don Quixote Final Paper
During the Spanish golden era, books about codes of chivalry and true knights errant were extremely
popular and expressed religious values. Religious devoutness has been used to establish truth and
fairness in societies. Don Quixote himself is symbolic of idealistic pursuits, he is not only seen as a
symbol of faith in ideals but always having faith in a religious nature of his own rational world. In the
novel Don Quixote, religion plays a major role in Don Quixote s life because his religious morals and
social codes are what drive him to prove that he is a true knight errant. Don Quixote s religious beliefs
forced himself to perceive the world/society he lives in differently than those who did not have the

However, his techniques for achieving and accomplishing these ideals may be proven socially wrong
and law breaking, but his intentions are true.
To further this idea of Don Quixote not minding what people perceive him as, because of his religious
dogma is shown when Don Quixote confesses his love toward Dulcinea del Toboso. As long as Don
Quixote is driven by his religious convection, he will not mind what others think. Don Quixote is very
romantic when he expresses his universal truth to Dulcinea although, people perceive him as
unordinary and mad in nature. For what I want of Dulcinea del Toboso she is as good as the greatest
princess in the land. For not all those poets who praise ladies under names which they choose so
freely, really have such mistresses. I am quite satisfied. . . to imagine and believe that the good
Aldonza Lorenzo is so lovely and virtuous (Cervantes 418). This shows that Don Quixote s universal
love for Dulcinea is true because the actual Dulcinea is a farmer s daughter but that does not matter to
him as long as he imagines her as a princess in every way. Thus, showing that he does not

Difference Between Children Literature And Children s...
2.2 Theoretical Orientation
2.2.1 Children Literature
Children s literature has been used a lot as a useful and critical material in teaching reading. According
to Rebecca (2010) Children s Literature as a concept is defined as literature exclusively about
children. Children s literature refers mainly to stories, poetry, rhymes, folk tales, drama, exclusively
created for children such as infants, toddlers and the young people as target audience. But to look
deeper, because children s experiences, knowledge and interests are limited, their literature differs
from adult but only in degree not in kind. Children s literature is a rich resource for vocabulary
development that can be the strong fundamental for EFL learner to acquire functional English. For

The reader applies many strategies to reconstruct the meaning that the author is assumed to have
intended. The reader does this by comparing information in the text to his or her background
knowledge and prior experience Stated Mikulecky in 2008
Teaching reading is one of the critical parts of teaching language. Through reading, the teacher role is
to guide student how to comprehend written language so that the student can get the idea and share
their thought to other easily. Byrnes (1998) stated that reading is an interactive process that goes on
between the reader and the text, resulting in comprehension. The text presents letters, words,
sentences, and paragraphs that encode meaning. The reader uses knowledge, skills, and strategies to
determine what that meaning is. Before teaching reading, it is necessary for teacher to meet some
requirements mentioned before. Teacher also has to be completely understood and choose the effective
method and technique as well as preparing the decent reading material. Whilst also considering the
student who has English as a foreign language and student s language

The Melting Point And Boiling Point
Results The results show that the highest melting point was 4 Hydroxybenzoic Acid and the lowest
melting point was Sulfosalicylic Acid. The highest boiling point was Octanol and lowest boiling point
was Methanol. When it came to the percent error the highest percent error calculated was pentanol and
the lowest percent error was Propanol.
Discussion
During this lab the melting point ranges and boiling points were recorded from several substances.
Based upon the structures of these various samples certain trends were expected to be followed. For
example, with the melting points of pure substances are usually higher than the melting points of
impure substances. In this lab the melting point of Benzoic Acid, Salicylic Acid, 3 Hydroxybenzoic
Acid, 4 Hydroxybenzoic Acid, and Sulfosalicylic Acid were taken. If we apply the concept of pure
substances having higher boiling points, it was expected for substances like 3 Hydroxybenzoic Acid
and 4 Hydroxybenzoic Acid to have higher melting points and for substances like Benzoic Acid and
Salicylic Acid to have lower melting points. As for Sulfosalicylic Acid, its melting point was the
lowest so it was assumed that the substance was the most impure. It was proven that the fewer
impurities call for higher melting points. This is due to the crystalline lattices structure of repeating
ions or molecules. This lattice is held together by intermolecular forces that create a strong, stable
structure. The solid must be heated to a certain

A Steady Retreat from Democracy and a Growing Involvement...
A Steady Retreat from Democracy and a Growing Involvement in the European Union
Heywood (2002) defines the European idea as the belief that Europe constitutes a single political
community with shared objectives and difficulties despite its historical, linguistic and cultural
differences. In the 20th century the European community essentially concerned itself with defence,
peace keeping, and economic progress partly in response to the devastation caused by the Second
World War. However, the European Union is increasingly focusing on more domestic issues such as
civil rights within the EU, environmental issues and social policy. This expansion of the EU was

What is termed second order voting (Bromley, 2001) implies that a weakness in the linkage between
elections and representation, which reduces the level of accountability, thus creating what many would
view as a significant democratic deficit which is unnecessary.
This linkage can be improved which would strengthen the legitimacy of the European Parliament.
However, even the most representative and legitimate European Parliament could be ineffective in
ensuring levels of democracy if its abilities and powers within the framework of the European Union
are weak in comparison to other EU institutions. The electorate does not directly elect the Council of
Ministers and European Council. Although the European Council is formed of heads of state which

Cognitive Development (Piaget And Vygotsky) Essay
INTEGRATIVE TERM PAPER
I. Theoretical Perspectives
1. Introduction:
There are a number of theorists that have ideas, charts, and graphs about how a child develops. Many
are used today to determine when a child is mature, when they can feel emotion, and other important
factors to which there are no strict textbook answers for. Piaget and Vygotsky are two theorists that
offer theoretical perspectives on how a child develops.
2. Piaget s Constructivist Theory of Cognitive Development:
Piaget had a phrase that said Assimilation and Accommodation lead to Adaptation. Assimilation is
when a person fits his or her external information in with what he or she already knows. The change is
external in this case. Accommodation is the exact opposite. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Nurture argument, but that is another story. There are major factors that can disrupt the Stage theory or
the Constructivist theory. A person could have a dysfunction or a special need that needs to be dealt
with. For example, is a little boy has a brain dysfunction that disrupts his learning abilities, there is a
high percentage of chance that he will not develop at the same pace and rate as other children in his
generation and environment.
With the Constructivist Theory, a child may not know how to deal with his or her internal emotions
and/or thoughts. If that child does not know how to deal with his or her own internal workings, there is
going to be much difficulty trying to deal with a personal accommodation. The same thing goes with
assimilation. If a child does not know how to deal with his or her external environment, there is going
to be difficulty changing them and dealing with assimilation.
Dealing with the Developmental Theory (Stage Theory), a child may have the same dysfunction and
not be able to move up the ladder of stages. There are those rare cases where a child may be stuck at
one stage, or a child may not develop everything he or she needs to move on.
A. Organizational and Adaptive Processes that Account for Cognitive Development:
The three adaptive processes for cognitive development are assimilation, accommodation, and
equilibrium. These are three agents

unimaginable to think that the internet and what we have today was even possible. No one thought we
would have phones that can do everything from taking pictures, to playing games, to looking
something up on the internet. We are extremely fortunate as a society because of all the tools we have.
From the internet, we were able to add E commerce and we use the internet every day in our lives.
EBay was the most popular social commerce company before Amazon. EBay has a peer to peer
platform and the company was founded in 1995. Customers can go on the website and sell anything to
anyone. Customers then bid on the items, with the auction lasting so long, and the highest bidder wins.

Religious Significance Of La Sagrada Familia
Though it is welcoming approximately four million people each year for touristic purposes, La
Sagrada Familia, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is still making religious contributions by being a
place of worship.1 According to the statistics, each year 8 million people visit Barcelona, the most
famous city of Spain and half of them don t leave the city without visiting La Sagrada Familia.
Whether it is for a holy pilgrimage or for discovering the splendid landmark, even though its
construction is still going on, this temple has been a must see for decades! But, what is the reason of
its popularity? Is it about the gigantic size? Is it about the fascinating details of the building itself? Or

level of the scenes shows Jesus last night before the crucifixion, the second level shows the Calvary of

bone shaped columns with harsh lines as they symbolize the brutality of Christ s death, moreover on
the façade words from the Bible in various languages can also be seen. Third one, the Glory façade
will be the greatest of all when it is completed. It will show the way to God in four events: death, final
judgment, hell and glory. 7 large columns will be built and their base will have demonstrations of
Seven Deadly Sins and for their top; Seven Heavenly Virtues. 5 According to Adrian Bejan, a

Testamentary Capacity To Make Will Case Study
Capacity to make will. The court held that there was sufficient mental capacity the mind need not be
in perfect shape and the disposition logical in order to have testamentary capacity. The excerpt below
summarizes the court s ruling in favor of admitting the will to probate:
The jury in this case also heard testimony about Pat s health problems, including testimony about a
1983 electric shock accident, his headaches, and his declining health in 2005. Brenda conceded that
Pat performed his daily work after the accident; he worked cattle on horseback. Members of Pat s
family testified that Pat possessed all his mental faculties after the accident, noticing no change in his
daily behavior beyond some difficulty walking. The jury heard testimony that, in December 2004, Pat

She claims that, because no evidence demonstrates that Pat discussed his children or the approximate
nature of his property with the witnesses on the date he executed his will, Pat lacked the capacity to
make a judgment about bequeathing his property. She asserts that Pat did not know who his children
were because his will names a child whom he never adopted in a legal proceeding, and it omits an
alleged sixth child. But a finding of testamentary capacity does not hinge entirely on direct evidence
that the testator discussed the details of his children, wealth, or disposition at the time he signed his
will. See Prather, 76 Tex. at 584 85, 13 S.W. at 545 46. The jury heard direct evidence of Pat s general
mental condition on the day he executed his will and the attending months before and after: this
evidence supports its determination that Pat knew that he was executing his will and that he had
deliberately chosen Patricia to be his sole beneficiary. The evidence at trial would enable reasonable
and fair minded people to reach the verdict under review. See City of Keller, 168 S.W.3d at

Attractive People Deserves to Be More Successful Than Ugly...
Attractive people deserve to be more successful than ugly people In an ideal world, good looks appeal
to job interviewers, potential mating partners and other situations where good looks can be added as
an extra leverage in daily situations. Moreover, successful job interviews mean good jobs, good
money, and good life; whereas relationship wise, attractive people attract fellow attractive partners
typically with good genes and not to mention good jobs. Being beautiful seems to be rewarding
therefore it can be said that good looking people simply have it good as these factors are points of
success. But what is success? The question is a subjective one thus each individual have different

(businessinsider.com, 2011). As well as their physical traits, attractive individuals also do not lack
inner or mental attributes such as confidence, intelligence that assisted in higher job positions and self
assured personality that can make them as a good asset and profitable to the company. According to
Rhodes et al. (2005), males with attractive faces and bodies had more short term partners than their
peers, and males with attractive bodies became sexually active earlier than their peers. Females with
more attractive faces had more long term relationships and became sexually active earlier than their
peers. In terms of finding a long term and ideal mate for emotional, sexual and reproductive purposes,
this statement does not suggest the success of mating in men but only in women thus the claim for
attractive people of both gender s success in mating is refuted. In addition, there are insufficient data
to date to determine whether masculinity is attractive to both males and females (Rhodes, 2005).
Furthermore, people searching for a partner to have children with may not be interested in extremely
attractive partners, because such partners may be more likely to leave them for another partner to have
extra pair relationships (Boothroyd et al, 2008). In particular attractiveness is related to higher

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD)
Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is when blood flow to the heart is temporarily or permanently
blocked. This is problematic to the wellbeing of one s heart, because blood transports the materials
(nutrients, minerals, oxygen) that are required for heart muscles (or any muscle) to contract and
sustain the life of those cells. Caption #1 shows the muscles in the heart that are affected by CHD.
Coronary Heart Disease can be caused by the buildup of plaque (cholesterol) in the arteries which
direct blood to the heart, and by the increase in blood pressure.
Caption #1: Shows the muscles that are damaged by CHD
Caption #2: Shows the changes on a fatty acid after hydrogenation.
Plaque building up in the arteries, also called atherosclerosis, is mainly affected by one s diet,
specifically in the ingestion of lipids. The lipids that are likely to cause CHD are: saturated fats, and
trans fats. Trans fats are created artificially from hydrogenated vegetable oils, which would usually be
unsaturated, which changes the physical properties of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Smoking regularly may raise blood pressure (caused by nicotine), damage the lining of one s blood
vessels, and (similar to trans fats) increases LDL while lowering HDL. Physical activity can help
reduce the risk of CHD by regulating blood pressure and the levels of lipids in blood cells. Without
regular physical activity, these benefits are not being exploited, and a high blood pressure and high
lipid concentration may lead to CHD. Diabetes is a risk for CHD because it promotes high glucose
levels in blood cells. This is because the hormone insulin, that helps transport glucose to other cells, is
not being created or isn t being used properly. The result could be an abnormal level of sugar in blood
cells. These symptoms can lead to CHD, because it also promotes hypertension and abnormal lipid
levels in the

The Importance of Heeding Literary Omens: Of Mice and Men The novel, Of Mice and Men, by John
Steinbeck, depicts the unfortunate tale of two men traveling in search of labor. Lennie Small, and
George Milton, born and raised in Auburn, settle in Salinas valley making their living as ranch hands.
Conflict arises as Lennie struggles to heed George s words and eventually Lennie suffers his downfall
at the hand of his best friend. John Steinbeck used foreshadowing in, Of Mice and Men, to express and
reveal the sentiments behind characters actions and personalities throughout the novel, demonstrating
the importance of foreshadowing to deepen the understanding of major events in a novel. The author
utilizes the setting of the book to foreshadow the differences in Lennie and George s characters.
Before they are introduced, Steinbeck describes the diverse region of mountains and streams close to
George and Lennie s destination. The area is separated by a river with one side harboring, golden
foothill slopes [which] curve up to the strong and rocky Gabilan mountains, but on the valley side the
water is lined with trees willows fresh and green with every spring, carrying in their lower leaf
junctures the debris of the winter s flooding, (Steinbeck 1). Steinbeck uses the contrast in the opposite
sides of the river to foreshadow the variation in the mental and physical aspects of his two main

Fascist Italy and Population Essay
Overall, the fascist experiment in Italy was a failure. Benito Mussolini aimed to make the world safe
for the middle class, small business owners, property owners, and people in the agricultural area.
Through this, Mussolini gained support of the majority of the population. There is no doubt that most
of the support was actually the work of propaganda and rhetoric rather than the ‘real thing . The
government made desperate attempts to significantly increase the birthrate in Italy. In 1927, Mussolini
launched the Battle for births . The task of young women was to get married quickly and have a lot of
children. And the more children they get, the more benefits they get from the government. Mussolini s

The women in Italy who had unusual numbers of children lived in hardship and poverty while they
were still under pressure from the public and the government to have more children. Mussolini s big
plan was to have all the men serving the military and the women working in the domestic sphere.
Mussolini s daughter, Edda Mussolini Ciano, was asked to return to Italy from China in Document 7.
She did not appreciate Mussolini s request at all because he told her to leave just to be asked to
become pregnant again. I was angry to have been forced to leave that spellbinding, magical country

the photo seems like they are either working for Mussolini or serving the army. Mussolini, seeing as
how his dream for Italy was becoming a failure, resorted to statistics. In Document 4, fascists saw that
fat women are more capable of producing children than that of normal women. They therefore called
for a Battle for the fat and targeted mainly women who weighed at least 300 pounds. In Document 2,
Pietro Battera, a demographer, points out that the economy conditions in Italy was in no way suitable

The immigrants that come to America today have the same intentions as the Puritans, to escape

leader destroys all individualism, leaving the ants with no creativity. Instead, they use trail and error to
complete tasks that should take only a small amount of thought. Wart sees this occur when an ant tries
with difficulty to organize three cadavers in a small burial chamber, when a small amount of reasoning

In the final transformation Wart visits the badger. The badger is a great philosopher who enjoys giving
scholarly commentaries. While Wart is visiting him, he explains a story he has written on the creation
of the animal kingdom s hierarchy. In his commentary he explains how man answered God s riddle
and is awarded control over the animal kingdom. He lives a life of solitude because many other

Through each of his transformations, Wart sees different uses of power. Wart must choose how he will
eventually govern his kingdom. The leaders he visits, govern in their own way, each retaining their
power through different methods. When these are combined, the following picture of how a leader
should or should not rule emerges. A leader should not attempt

Figurative Language In Macbeth
Marjorie Garber immediately evokes her insight of Shakespeare s work Macbeth in the book
Shakespeare After All. The first couple of paragraphs interprets the meaning of the witches dramatic
role in this creative work. In addition, fate was symbolized in a human and nonhuman form a
persuasive psychological reality of their own , according to Gaber. She also strongly suggests that
equivocation is the running theme throughout the play. Garber s idea that Shakespeare s had the ability

world.
It s designed to ensure air defense using long and medium range missiles that can hit aerial targets,
including tactical and strategic aircraft as well as ballistic and cruise missiles, at ranges of up to 400
kilometers.
The system consists of a set of radars, missile launchers and command posts, and is operated solely by
the Russian military.
The Russian S 300PMU 1 TMD System
The proliferation of ballistic and cruise missiles has created interest in theater missile defense (TMD).
The objective of a TMD system is to defend against missile attacks. Such a system might be
configured to protect an area as small as a city or port, or as large as several thousand square
kilometers. It could provide protection for civilian populations as well as military forces. Providing
effective TMD would require a seamless network of early warning sensors, command posts, fire
control radars, and anti missile missiles.
Although defensive in nature, the deployment of a TMD system may catalyze threats to international
peace and security by upsetting a regional balance of military forces, undercutting other states
deterrent capabilities, or by protecting forces that can be used for offensive purposes. TMD
deployment may therefore spur an unstable

My First Day Of College
College Freshmen
My first day of college is one of the most important experiences of my life. The semester began on
August 28, 2017. In that morning, I had plenty of time compared to high school. I overslept because I
knew college starts only at 10 a.m. I had an alarm set for 9 a.m. Once I woke, I took a shower and got
ready. HACC is about minimum 8 minutes away from my house. By 9:40 a.m., I was on my way to
the Harrisburg Area Community College. I was full of confidence that I will reach the campus on
time, but the opposite happened. It was my life goal to go to college, however, there came the
complication because I was unaware of the incomprehension and unfamiliarity of being freshmen in
college. As a former new student, I got a little lost before I arrived at my math class. Once I reached
the HACC parking lot, I wasted more than 10 minutes going around the parking lot looking for an
empty spot. While I was driving around, I felt very frustrating. Besides, I was running late to class.
Unfortunately, I did not consider a full parking lot. Suddenly I remembered, when I came to college
orientation I parked my car across a small bridge where a new parking lot was under construction. I
drove there and found out they finished constructing the new parking lot. There were a lot of empty
parking spots. I parked my car and quickly walked toward Whitaker Hall rushing to find my math
class. I had a map of the campus, which listed all names and locations of specific buildings. In

Durkheim Is Dead! Macro vs. Micro Beliefs Essay
I have grouped the sociologists in Durkheim is Dead into three groups: macro to micro, micro and
macro, and micro to macro. I did not place any one of the individuals into just the macro or just the
micro categories. Each one fell into a group that I considered to be in between. In the macro to micro
category, each sociological theory concentrated on one major problem of society and then went on to
explain what would have to be done within individuals in order to achieve social progress. Durkheim s
focus was upon the division of labor being the primary cause of social problems (Berger 123). For Du
Bois, the concentration was on racial issues; I have faith in the power of freedom and democracy to

Lenin was very close to the Webb s and they all shared similar theories. These people were more
politically minded. Similar to Durkheim s ideas of collective consciousness, Lenin believed that the
ideas of the ruling class became the ideas of the masses (Berger 111). Lenin focused on societal
groups and how the individual is stuck within their class. He believed that the working class was being
exploited and that society must work towards eliminating this confusion of who should be in charge
by forcing the working class to prevail. B. Webb felt there was a relationship between crime poverty.
She focused on politics as being the reason for poverty. She said, One must remedy the political order
to help poor people.... It was the structure of society that was at fault, not the individual (Berger 130).
The next category, macro and micro, was a group in and of itself. Only one sociologist fell into this
division. The theories that defined this category oscillated between the effects of society on the
individual and visa versa, the effect the individual on society. Simmel blatantly says, My view is
somewhere in the middle (Berger 94). Simmel s studies were often those of ordinary things people do
in the daily routine of life. He was interested in sociation and how individuals reacted to and

  • 2. Dienophile, N-Methylmaleimide For this study, each group had the same dienophile, N methylmaleimide, but different dienes, anthracene 9 methanol or anthracene 9 carboxaldehyde. Initial reaction conducted with anthracene 9 methanol and N methylmaleimide was successful in generating a generous amount of product; however, due to errors performed during the purification method by recrystallization, some product was lost, thereby resulting in a low yield. Upon completion of the reaction, the Diels Alder adduct was subjected to analysis by NMR spectroscopy, specifically, Proton NMR. The percent yield of this reaction was expected to be high, however, the reaction yielded a percent yield of 4.88%, which is significantly low. Typically, a low percent yield is an indication of an inefficient reaction; however, in this case, this cannot be concluded due to errors that occurred during the reaction. Theoretically, dienophiles and dienes can have different electron donating and electron withdrawing substituents, thereby changing either can impact the percent yield of the reaction. An electron donating substituents on the diene will increase the percent yield as the chances of the reaction occurring is increased with the increase in the number of electron donating groups. The Reverse is true for dienophiles, as an increase in the number of electron withdrawing groups with lower the energy in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Gallo Winery CSU Stanislaus E J Gallo Winery Plant Tour paper Stephan Jimenez Professor Kidd OM 3010 2013 October, 14 E J Gallo Winery Plant Tour paper The Gallo Winery plant tour was an awesome experience for me. I have always been curious about how a product was made from start to finish, and after the Gallo tour I have many questions answered. In this paper you will learn many different things about how a production plant runs and what they continually do to make improvements in all aspects of their business. Some focal points of this paper will be on the Gallo Winery operational strategy, what type of processes are utilized in the plant, and whether this company uses a lean production process or not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next step in the process is called the rinser, where the bottles are then inverted and rinsed to wash away contaminants most importantly any excess pieces of glass. Then the bottles are moved to the eight different types of fillers that Gallo uses, the fill height is either adjustable or depends on the pressure of the wine in the surge tank. Once the bottles are filled with the selected product, they are then fed from a hopper upstairs in FW to be corked or capped. After being closed and completely sealed, the products is transformed to the Labeller machine which either uses cold glue or pressure labels. The labels are either spliced or continuous, with the front label pressured on and the back label is put on with cold glue. Once all other steps are completed the final process that Gallo uses is the packing step which all bottles are placed into the box, and the box is glued and closed mechanically. Some lines use a Palletizer machine which is a device that is used to stack factory goods and products on to a pallet. To make sure everything runs smoothly and on time Gallo has a good support system to help them continually moving forward. It starts with the Production Engineer that has the task of making sure everything is running sufficiently. There is a section called Training and Technology Integration, which manages the staffing and skills development of all operational employees. Then Tech Service communicates with all ... • 5. African Americans And African American Community As seen through time, African Americans have been at a disadvantage when it comes to accessing funds that are available to most people. This however has not stopped them from creating and accessing help that supports and aids their families. Through communal efforts, African Americans have been able to create mutual aid for themselves. In these communities, there are many sectors that have been built, but the main reason many are making it or able to afford and do what they are currently doing is through the help of the various communities and organizations that came about. Throughout each decade there have been forms of aid created solely for African Americans. Before slavery, when African Americans were still in Africa, the communities were thriving economically and socially. Africa produced a plethora of advanced civilizations. Although Europeans like to credit themselves for the spread of Christianity, Christianity was in Ethiopia long before the Europeans came. As one can see through time, church is an important communal and distinctive quality of the African American community. In his book, West African Religion: A Study of the Beliefs and Practices of Akan, Ewe, Yoruba, Ibo, and Kindred Peoples, Geoffrey Parrinder explains, Africa had a history, long before the Europeans came to our shores... Religion is a fundamental, perhaps the most important, influence in the life of most Africans (Parrinder 1). African Americans already had the support system of a church ... Framers depend on the outcome of the products because that s what helps them provide for their families. There are many disadvantage of the small farms decreasing in the United States in our modern time. Small farms has difficulty selling their products to bigger food companies. For example, supermarket chain like Whole Foods or Walmart are not set up to do business with dozen of small family owned farms (41). In other words, small farms are loosing money because their product are not getting sold. Unlike larger farms they get contracted because it doesn t cost as much than a small family owned farm. In fact, this is a reason why small farms moves to the city because they produce their products and make more money. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Bigger tractors and machines, chemical weed killers, and artificial fertilizer made it easier for one farmer to handle (39). This makes it easier for farmers to work with less people and have less expenses to make money. Another example is, It only takes a few weeks of work over a year to raise five hundred acres of industrial corn. So the farms have gotten bigger, but fewer people live in them (39). In other words, this helps farmers produce their product faster and with the help of fewer people, which means farmers don t have to worry about feeding more people. • 7. Investigating The Osmotic Regulation On The Kidney The purpose of the experiment is to test the fluid balance in the body, by studying the osmotic regulation in the kidney (Manuguid, et al., 2015) Also, test the changes in urine pH, urine flow rate and specific density among non drinking and drinking groups. The main purpose of avoiding food and drink prior to the lab was to eliminate the effects that could occur in the class data, reduce the amount of error and to get a fair result by having everyone start at the same time. If each student did not monitor or follow the correct procedure, this would have affected the result by having a lot differences in the rate of urine flow, urine density and the pH level. Therefore, we wouldn t have an accurate results to make any kind of conclusion out of it and we will have a result in a wide range. All the groups drank according to their weight and this affected the result in terms of their osmolarity, hormone secretion, and urine flow rate because all the groups ingested different amount of the drinks. Based on the result from table 1, the physiological state of the subjects at T0 was negative for blood, ketone, glucose and protein. In figures 1 4, all of the subjects pH level was about 6; urine volume rate and urine voided is about the same amount for all the groups. There were changes in the variables between T0 and T30 because at T0, we started with no drinks and we saw that the non drinking group and drinking groups had about the same level of the urine flow rate at T=0. • 9. Examples Of Sympathizing In Frankenstein As humans we have a tendency to choose the perfect balance between the two options we are given. Therefore, when we are ultimately given the right to choose between sympathizing with Victor or his creature, we try to sympathize with the two equally. That s just being human; we cannot decide who gets to have more of our attention. However, if I had to choose between the two, I would perhaps sympathize with the creature more. I empathize the creature for specific reasons that range from the way he is perceived; to the way the population and his creator handle him amongst others. Victor Frankenstein had a glorious childhood brought by well praised, loving parents, whom were possessed by the very spirit of kindness and indulgence. His parents treated Victor fairly; tendering him whenever he needed, allowing him to acquire great knowledge, and being his helping hand, or a push towards success, when he desired. Victor s life seemed to tick off all those boxes; meanwhile, the creature s didn t. Frankenstein, the creature s only so called family , had degraded the Being . Belittling his creation, Frankenstein congregated the creature in a grotesque manner with: yellow eyes and a giant frame, which brings me to my subsequent point. ... Belonging Belonging is the relationship between an individual and his society, idealistically of one being in harmony with their surrounding peers and therefore becoming accepted no matter what attributes they possess. Belonging is an intrinsic need, it is a complex and variable state and in the end brings some form of happiness to an individual. The film, Strictly Ballroom , produced by Baz Luhrman, focuses upon the individual Scott who possesses the skills to win but defies the rules of the ballroom world by adding unauthorised steps and by challenging the status quo. Similarly, The short story, A Straight Bat , by Roger Holt, revolves around the individual Timothy whose individuality is suppressed by his fathers expectations. The song, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As his father introduces to Timothy a cricket bat, Timothy s father sets the barriers of belonging towards Timothy, who is attempting to develop his own identity. Timothy s disapproval and rejection of the bat is highlighted in the short, sharp sentences and the negative connotations of the words stared , hard and heavy in the quote, Timothy stared hard at the cricket bat. It looked heavy . The negative description of the bat illustrates his objection towards the interest and values in which his father expects him to abide by. This reinforces the negativity that a sense of individuality can be removed and affected by the expectations of belonging imposed by those around us. The negative conformist nature to conform is represented through the use of the bat , symbolising the need to conform in order to feel accepted. The metaphor quoted within George s quote, Everyone must have his own bat , emphasises that each person must follow their own path in order to develop their own identity. We realise that complying by the expectations of society is the first step to acquiring acceptance. The destroying of the violin, represents Timothy s individuality and the ability to grow, is halted and depleted as the expectations of his father to play cricket, is of more priority to his son s desire. The populous has acquired a bad habit of turning to convenience foods because of availability, taste and comfort. Thus to re direct the health of the nation, people need to stop crippling their health by convenience foods and replace it with healthy, natural choices, otherwise the health of all will continue to decline. On an average, large amount of fast foods consumed on a daily basis, leads to the deterioration of an individuals bodily health over time. Consuming more fruits, vegetables and healthy foods, will increase the life expectancy of most individuals. According to Donald D. Hensrud of the Mayo Clinic on Healthy Weight, Eating well choosing a plant based diet, which emphasizes vegetables, fruits and whole grains also will reduce your risks of some of our nation s biggest killers and related conditions. Many cancers, heart disease and high blood pressure, among other conditions, are linked to diet, most notably to diets high in fat and saturated fat. Even without weight loss, adopting a healthier eating style can be beneficial. (Hensrud 49) The majority of Americans give the argument that healthy food takes up too much time. They state that they do not have enough time to prepare healthy meals with a busy schedule, whereas convenience foods are easily squeezed into a day. This common misconception often inhibits the populous from exerting any energy toward trying to accommodate a healthier lifestyle. As Hensrud states, Cooking healthfully is not difficult to do, but it may involve rethinking your approach. • 15. Teaching Is The Easiest Job Teaching is one of the most well known careers known to man; it has existed for centuries and probably has existed since the beginning of humanity. Thus, many may think it is very simple to get in front of a group (class) and lecture about a certain topic. When in actuality it is not, it is very complicated having to get up in front of a class especially if you re a shy person not used to the concept of talking in front of a large group of people; I have faced a similar challenge, and steadily overcoming the fears associated with teaching. Over the summer I worked with students at a local school called Hanley International Academy, I taught ladies that were older than me, and are ESL; I honestly thought it was the easiest job ever prior to starting. However, I started to understand that teaching needs time and explaining within the time I worked I took everything serious. Before beginning any teaching, I had to assist each student s ability to understand English. Then, I started off with very simple assignments. When teaching ESL students the first step is to explain what the alphabet, how much are letters are in the alphabets, and how to use them. Then you have to teach them how to write them when they have understood how to read and write then you must move on to the next concept. That doesn t mean to forget about it completely. Next, you say the alphabets and let them read after you until they have pronounced it perfectly. Then start with the next step I made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether they fail to notice a peers new haircut or that they are going to be alternating schools people may not realize occurrences that are taking place, some to the degree of misperception, hardship or tragedy. These conditions have taken place all throughout history, for instance the Holocaust. During this horrific period in time, the citizens of Germany were blinded to what truly was happening. Not only did this lead misunderstanding the conditions at hand, this led to millions of separations, fatalities, and devastations. As indicated previously, one way the citizen s ignorance was formed through propaganda. In section Lowered Educational Standards of Prelude to War it states During this time, Hitler and his fellow Nazi educators discouraged and prohibited children to think independently. This leads to their ignorance because they only understood the Nazi s perception of things causing them to believe and value their way of thinking. Also, from countless lectures for students are lead to think the educators word as fact and other ideas as propaganda when in reality they have been molded to think this way. In the same way, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas expresses a theme of ignorance through two characters who both come from different backgrounds but still convey the same naïve and oblivious ways. Don Quixote himself is symbolic of idealistic pursuits, he is not only seen as a symbol of faith in ideals but always having faith in a religious nature of his own rational world. In the novel Don Quixote, religion plays a major role in Don Quixote s life because his religious morals and social codes are what drive him to prove that he is a true knight errant. However, his techniques for achieving and accomplishing these ideals may be proven socially wrong and law breaking, but his intentions are true. To further this idea of Don Quixote not minding what people perceive him as, because of his religious dogma is shown when Don Quixote confesses his love toward Dulcinea del Toboso. As long as Don Quixote is driven by his religious convection, he will not mind what others think. Don Quixote is very romantic when he expresses his universal truth to Dulcinea although, people perceive him as unordinary and mad in nature. For what I want of Dulcinea del Toboso she is as good as the greatest princess in the land. For not all those poets who praise ladies under names which they choose so freely, really have such mistresses. I am quite satisfied. . . to imagine and believe that the good Aldonza Lorenzo is so lovely and virtuous (Cervantes 418). The highest boiling point was Octanol and lowest boiling point was Methanol. When it came to the percent error the highest percent error calculated was pentanol and the lowest percent error was Propanol. Discussion During this lab the melting point ranges and boiling points were recorded from several substances. Based upon the structures of these various samples certain trends were expected to be followed. For example, with the melting points of pure substances are usually higher than the melting points of impure substances. In this lab the melting point of Benzoic Acid, Salicylic Acid, 3 Hydroxybenzoic Acid, 4 Hydroxybenzoic Acid, and Sulfosalicylic Acid were taken. If we apply the concept of pure substances having higher boiling points, it was expected for substances like 3 Hydroxybenzoic Acid and 4 Hydroxybenzoic Acid to have higher melting points and for substances like Benzoic Acid and Salicylic Acid to have lower melting points. As for Sulfosalicylic Acid, its melting point was the lowest so it was assumed that the substance was the most impure. It was proven that the fewer impurities call for higher melting points. This is due to the crystalline lattices structure of repeating ions or molecules. This lattice is held together by intermolecular forces that create a strong, stable structure. Lennie Small, and George Milton, born and raised in Auburn, settle in Salinas valley making their living as ranch hands. Conflict arises as Lennie struggles to heed George s words and eventually Lennie suffers his downfall at the hand of his best friend. In that morning, I had plenty of time compared to high school. I overslept because I knew college starts only at 10 a.m. I had an alarm set for 9 a.m. Once I woke, I took a shower and got ready. HACC is about minimum 8 minutes away from my house. By 9:40 a.m., I was on my way to the Harrisburg Area Community College. I was full of confidence that I will reach the campus on time, but the opposite happened. It was my life goal to go to college, however, there came the complication because I was unaware of the incomprehension and unfamiliarity of being freshmen in college. As a former new student, I got a little lost before I arrived at my math class. Once I reached the HACC parking lot, I wasted more than 10 minutes going around the parking lot looking for an empty spot. While I was driving around, I felt very frustrating. Besides, I was running late to class. Unfortunately, I did not consider a full parking lot. Suddenly I remembered, when I came to college orientation I parked my car across a small bridge where a new parking lot was under construction. I drove there and found out they finished constructing the new parking lot. There were a lot of empty parking spots. I parked my car and quickly walked toward Whitaker Hall rushing to find my math class. I had a map of the campus, which listed all names and locations of specific buildings. In ... • 38. Durkheim Is Dead! Macro vs. Micro Beliefs Essay I have grouped the sociologists in Durkheim is Dead into three groups: macro to micro, micro and macro, and micro to macro. I did not place any one of the individuals into just the macro or just the micro categories. Each one fell into a group that I considered to be in between. In the macro to micro category, each sociological theory concentrated on one major problem of society and then went on to explain what would have to be done within individuals in order to achieve social progress. Durkheim s focus was upon the division of labor being the primary cause of social problems (Berger 123). For Du Bois, the concentration was on racial issues; I have faith in the power of freedom and democracy to lead these peoples to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lenin was very close to the Webb s and they all shared similar theories. These people were more politically minded. Similar to Durkheim s ideas of collective consciousness, Lenin believed that the ideas of the ruling class became the ideas of the masses (Berger 111). Lenin focused on societal groups and how the individual is stuck within their class. He believed that the working class was being exploited and that society must work towards eliminating this confusion of who should be in charge by forcing the working class to prevail. B. Webb felt there was a relationship between crime poverty. She focused on politics as being the reason for poverty. She said, One must remedy the political order to help poor people.... It was the structure of society that was at fault, not the individual (Berger 130). The next category, macro and micro, was a group in and of itself. Only one sociologist fell into this division. The theories that defined this category oscillated between the effects of society on the individual and visa versa, the effect the individual on society. Simmel blatantly says, My view is somewhere in the middle (Berger 94). Simmel s studies were often those of ordinary things people do in the daily routine of life. He was interested in sociation and how individuals reacted to and interacted with other individuals. He saw these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
