Hands Of Stone Psychological Theory
Hands of Stone is a 2016 film, directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz. The film is a biopic based on
Panamian boxing legend, Robert Duran, played by Edgar Ramirez. The film shows his rise from a
poor street boxer to a feared amateur known for his free spirit and early knockouts. In his quest for
greatness he meets the love of his life, Felicidad (Ana de Armas), illustrious boxing coach Ray Arcel
(Robert Di Nero), and goes head to head with American champion Sugar Ray Leonard (Usher
Raymond). Through the lens of basic needs theory, an individual s motivation is determined by how
well a situation fits the individual s needs (Fraser Thomas, 2017). More specifically in the domains of
autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Throughout the film, Duran experiences ... Show more

Autonomy involves feeling ownership over behaviour in such a way that one s actions stem from a
sense of perceived choice internal control (Fraser Thomas, 2017). Autonomy exhibits a positive
relationship with motivation, so when feelings of autonomy are low, motivation levels will decline
accordingly. It can understood that in the first fight with Leonard, Duran seeks and initiates the fight
on his own free will. During this fight when Felicidad, Ray, and what Duran perceives as all of
Panama is supporting him, his perceived autonomy is at an all time high and as a result so is his
motivation. He goes on to dominate Leonard and give him his first defeat to become world champion.
The second fight is a completely different dynamic. Since Eleta agrees to the fight without Duran s
permission, he feels violated. He is completely stripped of his autonomy because he no longer
possesses a sense of perceived choice and internal control. Furthermore when Leonard begins
insulting him at the press conference and his wife winks at Leonard, he begins to feel a loss of control
and that everyone is turning against him. Finally during the fight when he tells Ray he thinks the size
of the ring is rigged he displays a complete lack of autonomy. It leads to him forfeiting the match and
displays that without autonomy, motivation will be very low or even completely

Student Debt
Fear of Losing
Facing a seemingly massive debt can create a scare tactic to continue on a path toward a higher and
exceptional education. Although there are controllable factors to help lessen the weight of student debt
it creates a wall of challenges toward furthering ones education, because of the fear of falling into a
seemingly large debt Canadian students are afraid to maximize their education, prohibiting Canada to
create and maintain a stronger and more skilled work force.

Queenship In Robin s Essay On Hatshepsut
While Egyptian monuments did not record individualities of ancient Egyptian queens, in the article,
Robins discussed four queens in detail to speculate their characters and to demonstrate that kingship
was complemented by queenship. I will focus on her argument on Hatshepsut and respond to it.
In her research on Hatshepsut, Robins argued that Hatshepsut identified herself as a king during her
queenship to build up power. She stated that Hatshepsut used god s wife as her title, reminiscent of
Ahmose Nefertari. Further, Robins talked about Hatshepsut s kingship and argued that Hatshepsut
could become a king due to her strong personality and the coruler political system in ancient Egypt.
Moreover, Robins talked about Hatshepsut s daughter s important role. Then she discussed Hatshepsut
s unusualness and argued that she was a fusion of female and male. Finally, Robins argued that
Thutmose III was willing to rule with Hatshepsut and didn t hate her. ... Show more content on

First, Hatshepsut had a forceful character so that she knew how to choose male officials. The fortunes
of these people were tied to her, so they were willingly controlled by a female king. Second, two kings
could rule simultaneously according to the Egyptian political system, allowing Hatshepsut to continue
her kingship without expel Thutmose III. Last but not least, Hatshepsut was not a pacifist, but rather,
she had a fighting character. The first and second hypotheses were persuasive, because they were
based on solid supportive sources. The third argument, nevertheless, lacked adequate and convincing

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Market Economy
Market Economy A market economy is one of the types of economies. In this particular economy
economic decisions and the pricing of goods and services are done by the citizens and businesses of
the economy. The market economy is the complete opposite of a command economy. Adam Smith,
David Ricardo and Jean Baptiste developed the idea of a market economy in the late 19th early 20th
centuries. With a market economy the idea is based off of a supply and demand system with citizens
and businesses. With this system there is rarely or ever any government involvement. Almost all
governments nowadays have this type of economic system infiltrated in their economy in some way.
They will either have a full market economy or they will have a mixed economy which is most
common, this is an economy with some government influence but mainly based off citizens and
businesses. In my opinion I think there are advantages and disadvantages to this economic system. I ll
start with the disadvantages. One of the main disadvantages would be not having a deciding power or
having someone in charge to step in when something doesn t make sense or is a bad idea that becomes
undecided between citizens and businesses. Another disadvantage is that sometimes too much freedom
can be a bad thing, free reign to do what you want can be cool and nice until people start using that
freedom in a negative way. However there are also advantages, one of them being the absolute
freedom and the ability to do and vote

From the election of a new middle class government and the declaration of the Second Spanish
Republic in 1931 until the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, Spanish society struggled to
establish a stable, representative democracy for only the second time in its long political history. With
the spread of industrialization, the rise of a new working class, and the emergence of a new era of

The war also embroiled many other European and world nations and pitted supporters and opponents
of democracy, fascism, communism, and anarchy against each other in what many critics have labeled
a prelude to World War II. The Spanish Civil War, choking the unity of the United States, exacerbated
already present political and public rifts of the nation, bringing into question the claimed neutrality of
America throughout the three year war. Although the Spanish Republican government had been
democratically elected and the Nationalist side was allied with and receiving support from Mussolini s
Italy and Hitler s Germany, who guaranteed a Franco victory along as a result of their support rather
than supporting the Republic, the American government approved an official Act of Neutralityi. US

Pop Art In The 1960s
Years following World War II, the United States enjoyed an unprecedented period of economic and
political growth. The Vietnam War incited mass protests, the Civil Rights Movement sought equality
for African Americans, and the women s liberation movement gained momentum. Entertainment
stepped into the new level with the monumental super stars such as Elis Presley led the emergence of
Rock and Roll, Marilyn Monroe was a reigning film star, and television replaced radio as the
dominant media outlet. Yet by the late 1950s and early 1960s, a cultural revolution was underway, led
by activists, thinkers, and artists who sought to rethink and even overturn what was, in their eyes, a
stifling social order ruled by conformity. Following the transformation to popular of the world, the
new art movement had occurred, Pop Art. Pop artists began to look for inspiration in the world around
them, representing and, at times, making art directly from everyday items, consumer goods, and mass
media. When it emerged in the 1960s, Pop art was not just about bold colors and celebrity culture; it
brought the popular world from cartoons and advertising to apples and bananas into the realm of high
art, turning taste on its head in the process. It was in this climate of turbulence, experimentation, and
consumerism that a new generation of artists emerged in Britain and America in the mid to late 1950s.
They did this in a straightforward manner, using bold swaths of primary colors, often

Grilled v. Fried Food
Has it ever happened to you that you have the option of choosing the same dish, but one recipe is
grilled and the other is fried? I know it has happened to me and almost every time I ve chosen the fried
version. Let us be honest and admit that fried food seems to be more appealing for everyone, even to
me. There is something to it that makes it addictive, McDonald s is not famous and successful for
nothing. But the sad truth is that although that fried food is extremely delicious when people consume
it frequently it can damage their health and cause serious problems.
So, am I saying that fried food should be forbidden and that we should only prepare (or buy) grilled
meals? No, not really. Fried food it is not awfully bad, indeed is not the healthiest option, but like we
have heard many times everything should have a balance , therefore fried food can be consumed in
small amounts and perhaps not so frequently. The deal with fried food is that it is a content high in fat.
What makes fried food high in fat, is that when the food is being fried it absorbs an abundant amount
of fat from the oil that is being used. The ingestion of an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

methods that can reduced the amount of heterocyclic amines and of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
that are created. The first one will be to cut the meat into smaller pieces, into bite size pieces to be
specific. This method reduces the amount of time that it is requires to cook the meat and the time that
the meat is exposed to the smoke. Another step that would help is to marinate the meat. The herbs and
the spices used in the marinade give antioxidants to the meat which prevent the development of HCA.
Lastly, let us remember that grilling vegetables is not detrimental to your health and not

Michael Porter s The Competitive Advantage Of The Inner City
The essay The Competitive Advantage of the Inner City by Michael Porter, addresses the crisis of
inner cities, in particular, the economic distress and how to fix it. Porter discusses the advantages and
disadvantages of the inner city, and how previous efforts to improve the conditions of the city have
failed. Many past efforts were guided by the desire to meet the needs of individuals but not the city as
a whole, even programs that were aimed at economic development were ineffective because they
treated the inner city as an isolated island (317), separated from surrounding economy which favored
local small business that did not bring in outside business.
Michael Porter is a renowned economist and professor of Business Administration at the Harvard
Business School, author of 18 books and more than 125 articles with topics that range from industry
competition to economic development. Porter was born in Michigan and went on to study aerospace
and mechanical engineering in Princeton from where he graduated first in his class and with high
honors from both the prestigious societies Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi, which he was also elected
into. He is known as the c and is recognized worldwide for his take on competition and company
strategy, many say that his work has redefined the thought process related to competition and
economic development. Some of his most influential books include Competitive Strategy: Techniques
for Analyzing Industries and Competitors, Competitive Advantage: Creating and Sustaining Superior
Performance and Redefining Health Care: Creating Value Based Competition On Results.
In the essay, The Competitive Advantage of the Inner City, Porter explained the reason that numerous
past efforts failed to improve the economic conditions of the inner city were mainly due to the
increasing social investment in order to see growth in economic activity. However, in order to create
real change, we have to start with the notion that inner city businesses should not only be profitable
but also capable of exporting goods and services (317). Many would think that a business in the inner
city would not thrive because business prosperity depends on location, however, it also varies on the
way a

Legalism And Confucianism
Confucianism, together with Mohism and Legalism, is three out of the four main philosophical
teachings in ancient China. Chinese philosophers such as Confucius, Mo Tzu, and Han Fei Tzu had
their own views on life. The teachings of Mo Zi both resembled and greatly differed from that of
Confucius; as for Han Feizi he took a totally different approach. The three books written by each
philosopher, the Analects, the Mozi and the Han Feizi each discuss how power should be manifested
in a society which affects the people and the state. Although each of the three figures are concerned
with power, Confucius believes the manifestation of power is being moral and following the tradition,

According to Mo Tzu, the concept of universality is a way to prevent a power imbalance. He urged
that all people follow Heaven in this by practicing universal love. Mo Tzu believed that all were equal
before the lord of the heavens. Mo Tzu saw Heaven and associated that with God. God being someone
who loves all people no matter their class or ethnicity. Also, he believed if God loves everyone
equally, people should strive to love one another in the same manner. He believed that the powers of
heaven acted on the world and exercised a love for all humankind. It is stated, The principle of
universality is the way of the sage kings, the means of bringing safety to the rulers and officials and of
assuring ample food and clothing to the people... It is the way of the sage kings and great benefit to the
people. (The Mozi, 49) His standard of action is strictly based on utility; love for all human beings is
demonstrated by satisfying their immediate material needs and by abandoning all forms of activity and
expense that do not contribute to the feeding, clothing and housing of the people. He spoke of the
value of the labor of common folks, and he advocated promoting people to positions of power solely
on the strength of their abilities and virtues. It is taught that it is necessary to recognize that to balance
power is that people should not prioritize partially, but universally. With his Universal Love
philosophy, he specified that a government would have no need to attack or have a war with another
state. By not having war between each other there would be peace, and it would stimulate the
economy by saving money. This would benefit everyone especially commoners because it will
eliminate their suffering, but also just all people in general because all people should be equal. The

Those high up in church authority had ignored the concerns made by these reformers because they

that, F. semitectum and F. verticillioides have the biggest pathogenicity (Lassois et al. 2010).
3 Environment Conditions for Disease Development
The occurrence of banana crown rot is usually influenced by different per harvest sectors. The
development of disease is partly related to seasonal factor. Generally, the banana crown rot is more
often occurs during summer (March ~ September), while the rot grows slowly in the cold season
(October to February) (Lassois et al. 2010). Temperature between 25°C to 30°C is appropriate for the
fungi to grow dramatically, and the growth declines sharply when banana was stored in cool
temperature, around 13°C (Finlay and Brown 1993). Besides, geographical variation is also influence
the occurrence of crown rot, it is reported that the banana crown rot development at higher altitude
(500m) is much less than at relative lower altitude (80m) in Cameroon (Ewané et al. 2012). The
duration of time between harvesting and cooling is also of great significance when it comes to the
disease development. The recommended fruit elapsed time should be no longer than 48 hours from
harvesting to storing in refrigerator (Finlay and Brown 1993). In

Factors That Go Into Making A Healthy And Thriving...
There are many key factors that go into making a healthy and thriving ministry. One can picture
ministry as a car engine were all the parts and gears are moving together to reach its destination. If one
of the parts or gears fails, the car is going to have a hard time getting to where it needs to be. One of
the most important key factors to making a healthy ministry would to insure proper communication
between all staff members in your ministry. If any communication links are broken, it can have a
devastating impact on the relationships between staff members, making it hard to work and grow as a
team.
Ethical Dilemma While the senior pastor was on vacation for a week, it was up to the ministry team to

long and having the ministry run solo on all areas in ministry for this week. All was going perfectly
that is until the actual service on Sunday. A member of our ministry leader team had said somethings

that we finished the service and dealt with the situation once the senior pastor returned from his

To The University Of London By Phillis Wheatley Essay
Young adulthood is a period of immense physical, spiritual and intellectual growth, especially for
those fortunate enough to attend an institution of higher learning. Despite this growth, college students
may decide to turn their back to their spirituality in favor of a logical and temporal existence. 18th
century African American writer Phillis Wheatley delivers a positive religious message in her poem
titled To the University of Cambridge, in New England that as a Christian college student, I

Amid her poem addressed to the University of Cambridge, several other themes develop. Compassion,
for one, is established as Wheatley talks about the compassion and mercy of God. For saving her from
Africa and enslavement, as well as for sending Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of humanity,
Wheatley expresses her belief in a loving and compassionate God (Wheatley, 5 6 and 14 20). Morality
is another significant theme in this poem. Wheatley is advising students to follow the moral high road
when she says: Improve your privileges while they stay/ Ye pupils, and each hour redeem, that bears/
Or good or bad report of you in heav n (Wheatley, 21 23). The entire poem is concerned with religion
and matters of moral goodness and sin, as such faith is another important theme present. Faith is
obviously very important to Wheatley as she credits her rescue to God and feels compelled to advise
educated minds to recall their faith while they acquire more knowledge (Wheatley,

Continuity And Summary Of Chapter 5 Oswalt
which is the worldview of continuity or correspondence. Continuity is a philosophical principle that
asserts that all things are continuous with each other. 4 There are many versions of this idea, but the

Idioms In English Language
The English language being very flexible constantly enriches its vocabulary with words invented by
language speakers, making it more colourful with new idiomatic expressions, and, at times, refills its
stocks with the borrowings and neologisms. English just amazes by its extraordinary linguistic
diversity.
The focus of this paper is to share consideration on the importance of idioms for non native speakers
as part of their mastery of the English language.
Understanding the lexicon of English demands more than knowing the denotative meaning of words.
It requires its speakers to have connotative word comprehension and more an understanding of
figurative language. Idioms fall into the latter category. Learning idioms is certainly not a piece of
cake (very easy), but once you know them, they can be a lot of fun, and anyway, because English
people use idioms non stop you will be all at sea (totally confused) in most conversations until you

definition emphasizes two inherent and very important features of idiomatic expressions. Idioms have
lexical and grammatical stability. It implies that they are fixed in their form, hence any substitution

Florida Football Game Analysis
I wrote a couple weeks ago the five pivotal games for Florida which you can read here, (Florida
Football: 5 Pivotal games for Gators in 2017). I ranked Tennessee at #5 and didn t think this was a
must win football game. As we saw a year ago, losing your first SEC matchup didn t dictate the rest of
the season. Unfortunately, things have changed and I firmly believe this is a must win ballgame.
The Gators falling to Michigan and then not having the ability to play week two switched my
perspective on this game. As Jim McEwlain said, Defending SEC East champs. It goes through here
and it goes through Gainesville. With the SEC East race completely up for grabs, whichever team

From Law Enforcer to Violator of Human Right The causes of abusing of power and violence
enforcement of City Urban Management officers City Urban Management Enforcement Bureau is a
local government agency in mainland China that is in charge of maintaining the order of daily
business activities of markets and streets in cities. This Bureau was established to deal with the
increasing problems when China is in the process of rapid urbanization in these years. However, it s
notorious for abusing power and violent enforcement. Reported by Feng(2008), on January 7, a man

Though those two causes mentioned above truly have effect on the behavior of the Urban
Management Officers, the third one is the most obvious and serious cause of abusing of power and
violence enforcement. Some indirect evidences show that some of the violate enforcement events even
happens with the acquiescence of the senior government. A common situation is that the leaders of the
Bureau only want their officers to clean out all the vendors on the street no matter what they do to
achieve it. Just like Ramzy said (2009), It s precisely because the Chinese bureaucracy s idea of an
ideal city doesn t include peddlers and street vendors that the [urban management officers] developed
into such a powerful institution (¶ 8). And when the violence enforcement event is exposed, they are
always shifting the responsibility to their staff or some one else and do not consider their
responsibility of regulation. The events of abusing of power and violence enforcement will continue
happening unless the local government set up strict regulations and punish the officers who break the
law. The abusing of power and violent enforcement of urban management officers is a tough problem
with several causes and complex background, but it is not impossible to solve as long as the
government takes effective actions such as

Freedom By Thomas Paine Summary
Thomas Paine s inspiring words got the colonists to realize that their rights were valuable and that
they had to fight against Parliament for their rights which were taken. Freedom was said to be a gift
from God, when given, people should not take it for granted. Heaven knows how to put a proper price
upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be
highly rated (Paine). Freedom is the right to speak, act, or do as one pleases. Freedom is considered a
gift from heaven, to everyone it s valuable and can not be replaced. When the colonists were given
freedom to choose and act for themselves they took it for granted. When their rights were taken away
from them, they started to realize that the

Essay On A Grief Support Group
A Grief Support Group Observation
The Cokesbury United Methodist Church grief support group follows a thirteen week curriculum from
GriefShare, however, new members can join in at any time as each week has a self contained lesson.
The topic for the week I attendee focused on the why of losing a loved one. Through following this
curriculum, the group seeks to equip members with essentials to recover from the hurt of grief and
loss. (GriefShare, n.d.) The group focuses on helping members rebuild their lives after they experience
tremendous loss and grief through facing the challenge together. (GriefShare, n.d.)
Format of the Group
Psychoeducational groups emphasize, using education methods to acquire information and develop
related meaning and skills. (Brown, 1997, p.1) This grief support group works as a psychoeducational
group, through focusing on education and knowledge for healing and growth. In this group, members
value knowledge as it further brings growth through their grief journey. The facilitator educates the
group with thirty minute videos made by grief experts to support the members in learning proper
coping skills and processing certain aspects of their grief. The group also characterizes a
psychoeducational group through providing emotional support with discussion before and after each
video. During this short discussion time the group worked together, to help apply the skills to their
lives and process topics discusses in the video.

The Female Employer May Sue For Emotional Distress
The female employer may sue for emotional distress. Prior to suing, she must show that she filed with
the federal or state EEOC. Depending on her state, she may also be required to file with her local Fair
Employment Practices Agency (FEPA). The female employer could file a Workers Compensation
claim. In the Supreme Court of Virginia. Ms Butler filed a workman s comp claim, Butler v. Southern
States Coop. Inc., __ Va. __, 620 S.E.2d 768 (Nov. 4, 2005), stating among other things, her employer
was responsible for the emotional distress when a co worker grabbed her and tried to kiss her while
conducting business duties. However Ms. Butler lost her case, with the courts stating the workers
compensation law does not cover distress, due to sexual harassment. Workers Compensation is a law
that compensates employees when they are injured while working. A company with three employees
are less are usually exempt. The employee does not have to prove it was the fault of the employer to
receive the compensation. In workers comp claims, the employer is not able to use contributory
negligence, assumption of risk, and the fellow servant rule to their defense. Also, the injury has to be
work related. Even if the accusation of sexual harassment could not be proven, the company would
not have been liable for Marwan s actions. Marwan was of a seniority position, which exempts Studio

Achilles Refusal To Agamemnon In The Iliad
In book nine of the Iliad, Homer portrays Achilles refusal to Agamemnon as the circumstance of the
Greek world s structure being out of order. A world of system, where many warriors risk their lives in

and heading to its own doom. Achilles fights hard in battles in the name of mighty king (9.368)

culture and its order. Bernard Knox writes, a pattern fixed from the beginning and not subject to

This film took me on an emotional rollercoaster. From beginning to end the film shook me up and kept
me on my toes. I decided not to look up the movie before hand so I wouldn t expect anything or see
things coming. I can honestly say I was invested the entire time. The story was phenomenal and the
filming was superb. I thought I was going to dislike this film but its now in my top 20. The film is set
in 1939 in a small town in London, during World War Two. They live on the river in a beautiful huge
house. The main family is the Miniver family. Which consist of Mr. and Mrs. Kay and Clem Miniver,
and there three children Toby, Judy and the oldest Vin as well as a cat Napoleon. They also have hired

a new car. Neither one want to tell the other about there expensive purchase but as the day progresses
they confide in each other. After all what is money (Mr.Miniver, movie). Mrs. Miniver also has a rose
named after her by Mr.Ballard. Then there son Vin comes home from school and talks about all he s

Essay on To Be of Use by Marge Piercy
Marge Piercy s poem To Be of Use expresses an opposing connotation about the idea of work. Most
people believe the words hard work carry a negative connotation. What these words imply is not
something that is generally received with enthusiasm but is often accepted either by force or
obligation. The poem s central theme is that satisfaction and self fulfillment can be attained by using
one s skills to serve a specific function in life, for it is the opinion of the speaker that an unproductive
existence has no value or significance because it is vain, and pointless. Piercy uses figurative
language, imagery, description, symbolism, and details to develop this theme throughout the poem.
The narrator begins developing the theme in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

makes these people so honorable is that they are ready and willing to become the ox ; they do not need
to be coaxed or forced to commit themselves to a task. The narrator adds that those whom he respects
pull like water buffalo, with massive patience (9). Here Piercy s figure of speech makes the speaker
convey the idea that although they are heavy laden, they remain dedicated and devoted to their aims.
When the narrator describes that they Strain in the mud and muck to move things forward (10), the
words mud and muck become symbols of the obstacles and unfavorable conditions that the speaker s
favored people often have to contend with while working. Despite such discomfort and inconvenience,
effort and determination, they persist and accomplish their goals. In addition, the speaker tells that he
venerates people who do what has to be done, again and again (11). The repetition of the word again is
a detail that puts emphasis on the traits of reliability and dependability that characterize the
responsible attitude that the people the speaker admires take toward hard labor. Hence, in the first two
stanzas, the narrator paints a picture of the virtues people he loves the best possess to help

The Endless Possibilities of 3D Printing Essay
Why go to stores and spend lots of money buying toys, jewelry, cups and many other plastic utilities
when you can only press one button and print them out for yourself. This futuristic idea is not only
innovating the scientific and technological world, but it is also innovating modern day households.
The possibilities of 3D printing are extremely captivating, making this one of the most exciting
innovations in recent times. 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, makes three
dimensional solid objects from a digital model or command. To picture how this process works, 3D
printers use an additive process, where adding layers of a successive material creates an object.

Although 3 D printers are not yet a standard part of home computing equipment, the latest generation
of devices, such as Cube® by 3D Systems, the Cubex™ or Makerbot s Replicator™2X which retail
for between one and three thousand US dollars are bringing the possibility of home manufacturing one
step closer to reality (Jewell). Now the biggest difference between traditional manufacturing and 3D
printing will be the emergence of mass customization. Goods will be, infinitely more customized,
because altering them won t require retooling, only tweaking the instructions in the software.
Creativity in meeting individuals needs will come to the fore, just as quality control did in the age of
rolling out sameness (D Aveni). When you have a product that is printed out individually from
software with your own customization, then there would be no reason in buying a product that will
look like something another person can own because of its ordinary accessibility. Creating physical
3D models in a fast, easy and affordable way has great potential, especially when you can do it in the
comfort of your home. As 3D printers are becoming live in the market, they demonstrate great
potential by fostering economic growth. The implications of this revolutionary technology indeed
promise to have a radical impact on the may things are produced and business is done. There are

Compare and Contrast the Causes of the 1905 and 1917...
Compare and contrast the causes of the 1905 and 1917 revolutions in Russia In 1905 and 1917 Russia
was tormented by chaotic revolutions. The workers and the intelligentsia had arrived at the point of
hating the autocracy because they could no longer endure the suffering, hunger and repression that the
tsarist policies brought with them. Years later Lenin referred to the revolution of 1905 as a dress
rehearsal for the October Revolution of 1917. In 1905 tsardom nearly fell. Nicholas II succeeded in
remaining in power, stabilizing the situation, only thanks to various concessions. However, his
continuing to rule harshly and unwisely brought him to be forced to abdicate in the February of 1917,
signing the end of the Russian monarchy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The power still has to be snatched from the hands of the old rulers and handed over to the revolution.
That is the fundamental task. A general strike only creates the necessary preconditions; it is quite
inadequate for achieving the task itself (Trotsky). The ineffectiveness of the strikes can be found in the
fact that in nearly every occasion the soldiers were ordered to shoot on the crowd, stopping the revolts
and leaving the tsar as obnoxious to the situation as before. Also the peasants in the countryside
suffered land hunger due to the growth of population caused by the decreased of mortality rates.
Backwardness was also caused by the open field system , which didn t motivate the peasants to
improve their machinery or seeding methods since their land would be taken away from them and
redistributed when a member of the community died. Nicholas II was a weak, indecisive and obstinate
ruler who, being very conservative and reactionary, used extensively the secret police ( Third Section )
and the army to suppress uprisings and political enemies. He alienated the intelligentsia and angered
the liberals with his lack of political participation and exaggerated reliance on the Fundamental laws,
which said that the tsar was appointed by god and was rightfully in charge of the country. As a
response, the liberals initiated a banquet campaign that started in November 1904, and ended in
January 1905 with the aim of making the tsar give

Hugo Cabret Essay
Everyone has been broken. Maybe some people still are and maybe others have been put back together
by friends or loved ones. The fact still remains that everyone is or has been broken, and there is no
way to stop that from happening. In Brian Selznick s book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, he touches
on this topic on nearly every page. Many if not all his characters are broken in some way or another.
Hugo Cabret is broken because he has no parents to care for him, no siblings to share with and no
friends to make him laugh. He steals, lies and tries not to be noticed because if he does, he gets sent to
the orphanage. Throughout the novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Hugo finds his purpose in magic.

The Evolution Of Ancient Wargames
Evolution of Sports
This paper is about the evolution of ancient wargames, more specifically, how they evolved into
sports. The focus herein will include an explanation regarding the path of how wargames turned into
the modern sport of Fencing throughout the period of recorded history, the cultural influences that
impacted changes along the way, and the similarities that still remain.
ROOT ORIGINS
The origin of Fencing can be traced in some manner, all the way back to the prehistoric era. By
Fencing, we re of course talking about the sport of swordplay and organized (and weaponized)
competition one one one. We are of course not talking about building a wall. As any mildly educated
individual can no doubt guess, walls are for cowards, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, French and Italian Fencing masters spread this doctrine throughout their schools in the 16th
century (Wikipedia).
EVOLUTION AND CULTURAL INFLUENCE
The cultural influences of Fencing are quite thick. Most of this can be traced in a linear fashion if we
observe the history of the sport from when it picked up its name as we know it today. There are
periods throughout history and prehistory where armed combat, in general, was something that was
measured competitively. Let us glimpse through time. As mentioned above, the earliest records were
dated back to the 11th century B.C.E., from there, Homer s Iliad mentions hero duels of single
combat, as well as gladiatorial combat. Gladiatorial combat was likely rarely person versus person, so
much as it was thousands versus thousands. Though warriors that dueled in this era were lightly
armored and used various other weapons aside from swords as the main weapon, and was oft
accompanied by a shield.
There used to be duels between two individuals and sometimes entire armies. It was used in the
ancient era after the fall of Rome to settle disputes and to deal justice (Castello).
From there, the medieval era holds some interesting insight. Schools arose that taught sword fighting,
though, at this point in time, it is not yet known as Fencing. Written works were produced at the
request of members of the periods wealthy and nobility. Though rare, the Royal

Fyodor Dostoevsky Motifs
Fyodor Dostoevsky is a Russian author who writes novels that revolve around psychology. He
demonstrates his ability to communicate with the reader by applying his in depth knowledge and

  • 2. Hands Of Stone Psychological Theory Hands of Stone is a 2016 film, directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz. The film is a biopic based on Panamian boxing legend, Robert Duran, played by Edgar Ramirez. The film shows his rise from a poor street boxer to a feared amateur known for his free spirit and early knockouts. In his quest for greatness he meets the love of his life, Felicidad (Ana de Armas), illustrious boxing coach Ray Arcel (Robert Di Nero), and goes head to head with American champion Sugar Ray Leonard (Usher Raymond). Through the lens of basic needs theory, an individual s motivation is determined by how well a situation fits the individual s needs (Fraser Thomas, 2017). More specifically in the domains of autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Throughout the film, Duran experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Autonomy involves feeling ownership over behaviour in such a way that one s actions stem from a sense of perceived choice internal control (Fraser Thomas, 2017). Autonomy exhibits a positive relationship with motivation, so when feelings of autonomy are low, motivation levels will decline accordingly. It can understood that in the first fight with Leonard, Duran seeks and initiates the fight on his own free will. During this fight when Felicidad, Ray, and what Duran perceives as all of Panama is supporting him, his perceived autonomy is at an all time high and as a result so is his motivation. He goes on to dominate Leonard and give him his first defeat to become world champion. The second fight is a completely different dynamic. Since Eleta agrees to the fight without Duran s permission, he feels violated. He is completely stripped of his autonomy because he no longer possesses a sense of perceived choice and internal control. Furthermore when Leonard begins insulting him at the press conference and his wife winks at Leonard, he begins to feel a loss of control and that everyone is turning against him. Finally during the fight when he tells Ray he thinks the size of the ring is rigged he displays a complete lack of autonomy. It leads to him forfeiting the match and displays that without autonomy, motivation will be very low or even completely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Student Debt Fear of Losing Facing a seemingly massive debt can create a scare tactic to continue on a path toward a higher and exceptional education. Although there are controllable factors to help lessen the weight of student debt it creates a wall of challenges toward furthering ones education, because of the fear of falling into a seemingly large debt Canadian students are afraid to maximize their education, prohibiting Canada to create and maintain a stronger and more skilled work force. Picking a career field does not come easy. After high school students are faced with the decision to continue pursuing a more advanced education or going into the workforce as society would label it uneducated . Although there are more deciding factors than simply ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research has uncovered that debt aversion has been a steady factor amongst those who chose not to carry on to post secondary education. 70 percent of high school graduates claim that fears of current and future financial standings spiraling out of control was a main factor for not pursuing a higher education, one in four people stated that accumulation of debt was the main barrier. Studies show that students from marginalized communities, low income backgrounds, and single parents are more likely to have negative feelings along with being strongly hesitant toward acquiring student debt. • 4. Queenship In Robin s Essay On Hatshepsut While Egyptian monuments did not record individualities of ancient Egyptian queens, in the article, Robins discussed four queens in detail to speculate their characters and to demonstrate that kingship was complemented by queenship. I will focus on her argument on Hatshepsut and respond to it. In her research on Hatshepsut, Robins argued that Hatshepsut identified herself as a king during her queenship to build up power. She stated that Hatshepsut used god s wife as her title, reminiscent of Ahmose Nefertari. Further, Robins talked about Hatshepsut s kingship and argued that Hatshepsut could become a king due to her strong personality and the coruler political system in ancient Egypt. Moreover, Robins talked about Hatshepsut s daughter s important role. Then she discussed Hatshepsut s unusualness and argued that she was a fusion of female and male. Finally, Robins argued that Thutmose III was willing to rule with Hatshepsut and didn t hate her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, Hatshepsut had a forceful character so that she knew how to choose male officials. The fortunes of these people were tied to her, so they were willingly controlled by a female king. Second, two kings could rule simultaneously according to the Egyptian political system, allowing Hatshepsut to continue her kingship without expel Thutmose III. Last but not least, Hatshepsut was not a pacifist, but rather, she had a fighting character. The first and second hypotheses were persuasive, because they were based on solid supportive sources. The third argument, nevertheless, lacked adequate and convincing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Market Economy Market Economy A market economy is one of the types of economies. In this particular economy economic decisions and the pricing of goods and services are done by the citizens and businesses of the economy. The market economy is the complete opposite of a command economy. Adam Smith, David Ricardo and Jean Baptiste developed the idea of a market economy in the late 19th early 20th centuries. With a market economy the idea is based off of a supply and demand system with citizens and businesses. With this system there is rarely or ever any government involvement. Almost all governments nowadays have this type of economic system infiltrated in their economy in some way. They will either have a full market economy or they will have a mixed economy which is most common, this is an economy with some government influence but mainly based off citizens and businesses. In my opinion I think there are advantages and disadvantages to this economic system. I ll start with the disadvantages. One of the main disadvantages would be not having a deciding power or having someone in charge to step in when something doesn t make sense or is a bad idea that becomes undecided between citizens and businesses. Another disadvantage is that sometimes too much freedom can be a bad thing, free reign to do what you want can be cool and nice until people start using that freedom in a negative way. However there are also advantages, one of them being the absolute freedom and the ability to do and vote ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dylan Johnson APUSH Final Research Paper From the election of a new middle class government and the declaration of the Second Spanish Republic in 1931 until the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936, Spanish society struggled to establish a stable, representative democracy for only the second time in its long political history. With the spread of industrialization, the rise of a new working class, and the emergence of a new era of political movements, ideals, and philosophical ideologies or isms throughout Europe and the United States communism, socialism, marxism, anarchism, fascism, etc., Spanish society grappled to find common ground between more traditional and conservative political groups the Catholic church, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The war also embroiled many other European and world nations and pitted supporters and opponents of democracy, fascism, communism, and anarchy against each other in what many critics have labeled a prelude to World War II. The Spanish Civil War, choking the unity of the United States, exacerbated already present political and public rifts of the nation, bringing into question the claimed neutrality of America throughout the three year war. Although the Spanish Republican government had been democratically elected and the Nationalist side was allied with and receiving support from Mussolini s Italy and Hitler s Germany, who guaranteed a Franco victory along as a result of their support rather than supporting the Republic, the American government approved an official Act of Neutralityi. US diplomatic officials in Spain were even told to refrain from any interference with the unfortunate Spanish situation.ii The United States viewed their role in the conflict as one of keeping Democratic European nations from embarrassing themselves in the attempt to localize the Spanish Civil War. iii Although Germany and Italy officially agreed to this stance of non intervention, German aircraft was used to bomb the innocent Republican town of Guernica, murdering 800 townsfolk, mostly women and children, while the majority of the town s men were away working in the fields.iv The city, too small to be of any military threat to ... The Vietnam War incited mass protests, the Civil Rights Movement sought equality for African Americans, and the women s liberation movement gained momentum. Entertainment stepped into the new level with the monumental super stars such as Elis Presley led the emergence of Rock and Roll, Marilyn Monroe was a reigning film star, and television replaced radio as the dominant media outlet. Yet by the late 1950s and early 1960s, a cultural revolution was underway, led by activists, thinkers, and artists who sought to rethink and even overturn what was, in their eyes, a stifling social order ruled by conformity. Following the transformation to popular of the world, the new art movement had occurred, Pop Art. Pop artists began to look for inspiration in the world around them, representing and, at times, making art directly from everyday items, consumer goods, and mass media. When it emerged in the 1960s, Pop art was not just about bold colors and celebrity culture; it brought the popular world from cartoons and advertising to apples and bananas into the realm of high art, turning taste on its head in the process. It was in this climate of turbulence, experimentation, and consumerism that a new generation of artists emerged in Britain and America in the mid to late 1950s. Michael Porter s The Competitive Advantage Of The Inner City The essay The Competitive Advantage of the Inner City by Michael Porter, addresses the crisis of inner cities, in particular, the economic distress and how to fix it. Porter discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the inner city, and how previous efforts to improve the conditions of the city have failed. Many past efforts were guided by the desire to meet the needs of individuals but not the city as a whole, even programs that were aimed at economic development were ineffective because they treated the inner city as an isolated island (317), separated from surrounding economy which favored local small business that did not bring in outside business. Michael Porter is a renowned economist and professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School, author of 18 books and more than 125 articles with topics that range from industry competition to economic development. Porter was born in Michigan and went on to study aerospace and mechanical engineering in Princeton from where he graduated first in his class and with high honors from both the prestigious societies Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi, which he was also elected into. However, in order to create real change, we have to start with the notion that inner city businesses should not only be profitable but also capable of exporting goods and services (317). The Endless Possibilities of 3D Printing Essay Why go to stores and spend lots of money buying toys, jewelry, cups and many other plastic utilities when you can only press one button and print them out for yourself. This futuristic idea is not only innovating the scientific and technological world, but it is also innovating modern day households. The possibilities of 3D printing are extremely captivating, making this one of the most exciting innovations in recent times. 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, makes three dimensional solid objects from a digital model or command. Now the biggest difference between traditional manufacturing and 3D printing will be the emergence of mass customization. Goods will be, infinitely more customized, because altering them won t require retooling, only tweaking the instructions in the software. Creativity in meeting individuals needs will come to the fore, just as quality control did in the age of rolling out sameness (D Aveni). When you have a product that is printed out individually from software with your own customization, then there would be no reason in buying a product that will look like something another person can own because of its ordinary accessibility. Creating physical 3D models in a fast, easy and affordable way has great potential, especially when you can do it in the comfort of your home. As 3D printers are becoming live in the market, they demonstrate great potential by fostering economic growth. Compare and contrast the causes of the 1905 and 1917 revolutions in Russia In 1905 and 1917 Russia was tormented by chaotic revolutions. The workers and the intelligentsia had arrived at the point of hating the autocracy because they could no longer endure the suffering, hunger and repression that the tsarist policies brought with them. Years later Lenin referred to the revolution of 1905 as a dress rehearsal for the October Revolution of 1917. In 1905 tsardom nearly fell. Nicholas II succeeded in remaining in power, stabilizing the situation, only thanks to various concessions. However, his continuing to rule harshly and unwisely brought him to be forced to abdicate in the February of 1917, signing the end of the Russian monarchy. ... A general strike only creates the necessary preconditions; it is quite inadequate for achieving the task itself (Trotsky). The ineffectiveness of the strikes can be found in the fact that in nearly every occasion the soldiers were ordered to shoot on the crowd, stopping the revolts and leaving the tsar as obnoxious to the situation as before. Also the peasants in the countryside suffered land hunger due to the growth of population caused by the decreased of mortality rates. Backwardness was also caused by the open field system , which didn t motivate the peasants to improve their machinery or seeding methods since their land would be taken away from them and redistributed when a member of the community died. Nicholas II was a weak, indecisive and obstinate ruler who, being very conservative and reactionary, used extensively the secret police ( Third Section ) and the army to suppress uprisings and political enemies. He alienated the intelligentsia and angered the liberals with his lack of political participation and exaggerated reliance on the Fundamental laws, which said that the tsar was appointed by god and was rightfully in charge of the country. As a response, the liberals initiated a banquet campaign that started in November 1904, and ended in January 1905 with the aim of making the tsar give ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The focus herein will include an explanation regarding the path of how wargames turned into the modern sport of Fencing throughout the period of recorded history, the cultural influences that impacted changes along the way, and the similarities that still remain. ROOT ORIGINS The origin of Fencing can be traced in some manner, all the way back to the prehistoric era. By Fencing, we re of course talking about the sport of swordplay and organized (and weaponized) competition one one one. We are of course not talking about building a wall. Thus, French and Italian Fencing masters spread this doctrine throughout their schools in the 16th century (Wikipedia). EVOLUTION AND CULTURAL INFLUENCE The cultural influences of Fencing are quite thick. Most of this can be traced in a linear fashion if we observe the history of the sport from when it picked up its name as we know it today. There are periods throughout history and prehistory where armed combat, in general, was something that was measured competitively. Let us glimpse through time. As mentioned above, the earliest records were dated back to the 11th century B.C.E., from there, Homer s Iliad mentions hero duels of single combat, as well as gladiatorial combat. Gladiatorial combat was likely rarely person versus person, so much as it was thousands versus thousands. Though warriors that dueled in this era were lightly armored and used various other weapons aside from swords as the main weapon, and was oft accompanied by a shield. There used to be duels between two individuals and sometimes entire armies. It was used in the ancient era after the fall of Rome to settle disputes and to deal justice (Castello). From there, the medieval era holds some interesting insight. Schools arose that taught sword fighting, though, at this point in time, it is not yet known as Fencing. Written works were produced at the request of members of the periods wealthy and nobility. Though rare, the Royal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
